Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

One of the songs from the 1959 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "The Sound of Music" is, "How do you Solve a Problem like Maria?"

Republicans are asking themselves the same question about President Obama. According to RealClearPolitics.com, the new President's approval ratings average 73% ranging from a high of 79% (Pew and ABC news/Washington Post) to a low of 60% (CBS News/New York Times).

Note, though, that all of those polls were taken before last Tuesday's inauguration.

Republicans in the House and Senate have to find a voice without getting in between a 70+ percent President and the American people.

What … ever … shall … they … do?

First of all, don't panic. Just below the chart showing Obama at his high levels is a chart showing the approval rating of the U.S. Congress. Average? 21% approval. Nearly the same percentage of Americans disapprove of the way the Congress is operating as approve of the way the new Administration is starting.

So, the secret is to leave Barack Obama alone for the time being. He'll make his own mistakes. Snapping at a reporter in the briefing room the other day was not a good way to start.

The relatives of people killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11 telling the press they are furious at the prospect of terrorists being set free upon the closing of Guantanamo will wear away some of the glow.

If House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ever had a glow it has long since been reduced to a faint spark.

Republicans in the House cannot whine about not getting a fair chance to participate in the design of legislation. The current split is 256 Democrats and 178 Republicans (with one vacancy).

When you are 78 seats in the hole you are not going to win many battles in Committee or on the Floor. There are no filibusters in the House, whatever bill Pelosi wants to bring to the floor for a vote is coming to the floor for a vote.

Republicans in the House have to pick their spots. The current campaign to make the case that the focus of any stimulus package should be putting money directly into the hands of Americans so they can go back to being consumers - is a good example.

It can take a "shovel-ready project" like a bridge something on the order of a year from the time the money is approved to the time the first shovel is actually needed.

It will take a mom with an extra $100 in her checking account about 20 minutes to drive to Target and start buying clothes for her kids.

That's a message almost everyone who does not work in Manhattan (and most who do) will understand.

On the Senate side, things are a little different. Republicans currently have 41 seats. If all Republicans stick together they can pretty much stall anything Harry Reid wants to bring to the floor.

The challenge for Senate Republicans is not to just stop a stimulus package - a 73% President will go on TV and blame the GOP for extending and deepening the recession. The job is to have a few non-negotiable items they want in the package and hold the 21% Senate up until they get it.

Whatever those few legislative initiatives are, they have to be easy to understand by people who don't live and/or work inside the Beltway and the individual Senators' offices have to be able to communicate to the folks in their states why they are important.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky) should pick a fight early and make certain that it is an issue which will allow Republican Whip John Kyl (Az) to hold the Republican Conference together so that Harry Reid can't get to the 60 votes he needs to break a filibuster.

The final chart on the RealClearPolitics.com page is "Direction of the Country." Only about 22 percent of Americans think the U.S. is on the right track.

A 21 percent Democrat-controlled Congress leading a 71 percent wrong-track country gives Republicans have a big, bright target to help Americans separate the Obama White House from the Pelosi/Reed Capitol.

That's how you solve a problem like Obama.

Lookout for weak Republicans.
If the Stimilus bill gets any Republican votes the those Rep's should be voted out next election.

A blind person can see the waste. We are going to feed a hungry pig that gets fat and demands more and more, every two years, keeping America broke.

Help The Man!!!
I think we should help him overreach, which he will, with the left-wing congress leading him.It will take several more Presential Directives like the abortion ruling and Gitmo closing (maybe).

There was a popular song in the seventies by one of the English Bands, Herman's Hermits,or one of them. Anyway,it went like this: "England swings like a pendulum do, Bobbys on bicycles, two by two".

Well,the pendulum swings in government,also.

He may not be able to be "stopped"
but at least the Republican Party must unite in clarifying what their ideological and policy differences are with this guy and his administration, and stand firm in articulating, defending, and promoting them better than they have been the past eight years, even if it means going down to defeat.

Compromising with one's adversary is conceding defeat anyway, so why not at least go down fighting for what you believe in.

MARIA=SARAH PALIN !
BARRY WAS THE DUDE THE VONTRAP FAMILY WAS RUNNING FROM!

He will face the music soon
Pray for the nation, President Obama is on a destruction path which no eyes have ever seen. His stimulus package is filled with so much pork there is no room for earmarks. Democrats have never agreed not to put earmarks on any spending bill. Former President Bush never vetoed any spending bill, the only president that served two full terms to do so. President has a tough act to follow, reality of the truth of the prior administration is more than opinions of media.

Funny Stuff
A wildly popular President is a problem that needs to be solved?

Nice

John
Half the country is not in love with him.

Just thought you should know.

John
Numerous dictators are wildly popular, also. That is how they 'DICTATE'.

To Chuck
Thank you for pointing out that we are two-party nation. Eight years ago we were hearing that having a born-again Christian president in the White House would bring us harmony, peace, and prosperity. Didn't happen. The pendulum swings. For thirty years it's been swinging to the Right. Now it's swinging to the left. It's only natural that policies opposing those of Reagan and Bush and Bush would now be seen. Be patient.

lilly
I hope you are right, but this particular guy's rise to power is unprecedented and suspicious and concerns me more than Bush's squandered opportunities.

The near cultlike adulation is an additional factor that concerns me greatly.

How Do You Solve a Problem Like Obama?
Since he smokes, let’s all send him a pack of cigarettes.

CLOSED DOORS IN WASHINGTON
Obama is the tyrrant that true conservatives warned everyone about. His atttempt to hand Plannned Parenthood and other abortion mills a quarter of a billion dollars, is a slap in the face of every Christian. Reagan popularity did not come from his closed door policy as President Obama have presented. Reagan did not write policy a then attempt to shove it down the throats of America. Amnesty for illegal aliens, while still rebuilding the United States military to the point of watching the Berlin wall fall and the end of the Carter era recession.Did you forget the gas prices, auto industry, and banking problems. Reagan kept his door open that is the transparency the Obama administration is attempting to mimic. The largest difference is the conversation has to occur prior to bills being filled.

Can't spend our way to prosperity
I am not in favor of massive government spending, especially when the money needs to be printed. Just giving it to consumer is not the answer either. We have too much debt already, both as a nation and as individuals. Problem is by spending $100 at Target, what does that really do for us? Send more money to China. We need to manufacture more of our own goods.

There are serious issues that need to be addressed in this country that can not be solved by everyone taking $100 to Target. Somehow the crumbling infrastructure needs to be fixed, not necessarily building a new bridge. We need to stop sending billions overseas for oil. We need new energy sources AND major improvements in efficiencies. How about re-building and re-stocking our military all these years in Iraqi and Afgan? this could be done easily and one of the few things still made in the USA.

Wow!!
One week into the new administration and already conservatives are foaming at the mouths. Perhaps an indication that he's moving in the right direction...anyway, I need to stock up on cheese, because TH columnists and posters will provide at least a four year supply of whine.

What problem?
Savaging a president with an approval rating of 90% was never much of a problem for Democrats. They considered it a necessity.

The problem with swinging...
pendulums in government is that when it swings left we get socialism and when it swings right we keep socialism plus we get tax cuts which brings in more money so that when it swings left again we can 'afford' more socialism.

The real answer is to reduce the size and power of Federal government. Cut the size down to 25% of what it is now and this country would prosper like you have never seen.

The solution to a problem like Obama is a candidate running on a reduce the size of government platform with specific reasons and expected results. The people of this country might be ready for this after O gets done.

Terry
C'mon now Terry. After all those years of you Dems badmouthing Bush at every turn did you expect something different for P-BO? Instead of worrying about conservatives, how bout doing us all a favor and paying more attention to your local politics. Really, as a native born Illinois country boy now residing in Texas, I am positive there was somebody immensely more qualified for guv than 'Hot Rod'. While your at it, step up the qualifications for your Senators as well.

frank:
One of the big problems with spending that $100 at Target is what can you buy that isn't made overseas? When China can make things paying wages that are a tenth of ours it is hard for American firms to compete. I don't like Chinese made stuff and will buy American if I can find it - but try finding an American made garment now. I don't know of a single source in the U.S. Companies have gone elsewhere and the government encourages them to do it "to help the ecomony of third world countries".

Stand up for your beliefs
Conservatives can "do something" about Obama; they can resist, they can protest, they can defy, they can organize to drive him from office. If you conservatives are correct about Obama--if you believe what you said during the campaign--then you owe it to the rest of us to stand up for your beliefs. You said Obama was a traitor, a covert Muslim, a Marxist, a pro-terrorist, etc. etc.

So where's that posse comitatus? Where are your contemporary Minutemen? Where are the militias we used to hear so much about? Conservatives, if they want to show what they're made of, will organize to force Obama out of office. I don't see much action on that front yet. If you don't begin to take the steps that follow from your professed beliefs about Obama and the evil he will bring to our country, I'll dismiss you all as a bunch of pussies. So, man up, right-wingers.

These Polls are Lies
How on earth can you trust a poll taken by the mainstream media.

Daniel -
I'm sure there was someone more qualified to be president than GWB, even in his own party - but that's what Texas saddled the nation with...at least the Blagojevich issue is contained within Illinois. And I'm not really worried about conservatives - to the contrary, the dire announcements about how Obama is Marx, Stalin Lenin, Pol Pot, Khruschev, and King George III provide me with a constant source of amusement.

Gestell
Lol. Were you advocating armed insurrection the last eight years for your side? Unlike your stereotype, we are not all survivalists with basement's full of guns and ammo. If your messiah is wildly successful in his policies, you might want to hang out with some of those gun carrying bible thumpers, however. Things could get a lot more dangerous as the serfs are impoverished more and more. Perhaps the ivy covered walls of Cambridge will again see the forces of rebellion. The loyalists that fled to Boston the first time around didn't fare too well.

Environmental whackos will start taking
And after they start getting enough of their policies adopted and functioning, the American people will finally see the result and will start to rebel.

Yes, Terry
There probably was someone more qualified than 'W' but it sure wasn't Kerry. Actually, much like yourself, we don't actually get to pick the prez candidates in the primary. By the time we get to vote, they are already determined for us (ala McCain). Maybe we can get that changed for next election. Unfortunately 'Blogo' is just one in a line of corrupt guvs but your right it is a 'Illinois' problem. Course you gave us PBO so you don't get off scott free there either. As for the names, much like 'Hitler Bush', Nazi Bush' etcetcetc. Personally I don't think PBO is any of those fellas, just think he is incredibly ill fitted for the job at hand. I see he is working his mojo on the car companies with his support of state imposed mileage quotas. Hmmm, bet that will save lots of jobs.

Solving Obama
One Word --- Impeachment

How to solve the problem
The first step in solving the problem of Obama is to realize that the Republican Party is not the solution. It is, in fact, the cause of the Obama problem.

The only way the problem will be solved is if the people decide their freedom is more important than:

1) what Britanny is doing
2) who is the next American Idol
3) what the government can promise to give you
4) security from terrorists
5) petty partisan politics

The Democrats are hammering the last nails into the coffin of liberty, and the Republicans are holding their coats and bringing them water. Politics is the problem, not the solution.

Thomas from Pa
You are the only one who has called Obama a "negro" on this website. What does that say about you and your tolerance?

Approval rating going down
We were told Obama's approval rating was at 80 percent before he was elected. Now it is at 68 percent, lower than Jimmy Carter's when he first became president. I expect it will start to tank when and if people wake up and see what he is foisting off on us in just his first week in office, a stimulus package that will cost us 1 to 2 trillion dollars, Gitmo detainees possibly being brought to our own shores, and being billed for the abortions of women overseas. Doesn't sound good to me.

Galen is pathetic
Instead of worrying about bringing down Obama and dems to lift up their own party, maybe the repubs should worry about our country for a change. What a simpleton. He epitomizes a huge problem in the repub party – in order for cons to win someone must lose. Real bright – destroy the country, if we can, cause it will make Obama look bad and then we can win next time around maybe. Even Reagan would be disgusted.

What is the Problem?
Thomas from Pa said something about a negro and Kate from IN challenged him. I thought Obama was a negro, at least half of one. He isn't Oriental, is he? Is he supposed to be referred to as a Kenyan, Indonesian, mulatto? What is the problem? I don't see what racial identity has to do with 'tolerance.'

Solve a Problem?
If 3 million RINOs hadn't voted for BHO, we wouldn't be having this conversation!!
But on a positive note...it will ALL be over soon...the wheels of prohecy have been set in motion.......
when he sets the terrorist free in "GITMO", we can start the countdown to the US demise!!!
.........you have been warned....!!!!

Was just reading a news report
about the upsurge in white supremacist / and hate groups since Obama was inaugurated. In fact, one guy in the NE decided to use it as a reason to go out and kill "anyone who wasn';t white" - he managed to kill three people before he was stopped.

All of the supremacist groups are saying the exact same things that you guys write - that Obama is a marxist pedophile who is going to take over the country.

At least you know you're in good company. But, I should warn you, the govt. is also watching right wing crackpot websites very closely - and, Brat, they probably aren't going to distinguish between nutjobs and crack heads, so consider yourself advised.

The government is watching all of us closely, in case you're not aware of it. Your liberty has come to an end, and you are now property of the state. And it ain't gonna be the picnic you guys on the left imagined.

Great Quote
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Samuel Adams

Jay
Has some 'nutjob' on this site killed anyone or threatened to kill anyone? Who said Obama was a pedophile? I haven't heard that.

What is the problem with calling Obama a Marxist? He is a Marxist. He evokes fear in people because he is an unknown, unvetted president who has spent a lifetime in the company of those whom most would flee and he espouses policies disliked by many. Presidential candidates and their wives usually do not insult the citizens or the nation. Ordinarily people do not question the loyalty of the president to the country, either.

I have seen no movies based upon the assassination of Obama nor have I seen any pictures on this site which were either threatening or disrespectful. So, if the Feds are watching this site, I hope they are enjoying themselves. The last time I heard, there was a right to speech and political dissent in the nation. Your friend Hillary even said that dissent was patriotic. Do you think that dissent should be allowed only so that Liberals can trash Bush and Cheney? I don't know the white supremacists to whom you refer, but I do know that disagreeing with a president does not constitute racism, even if that president is black.

"England Swings" is a Roger Miller song, native of Fredrick, Oklahoma.

Honest Lefty
Thanks! I was singing it,but couldn't remember the singer. Sure...."Dang Me,dang me,they oughta take a rope and hang me."!!!

Dear Fairness Man.....
You are wickedly funny.
What brand cigarettes should we send to BO?
Does he use mentholated?

Terry,
You're hardly in a position to complain about conservatives' responses. For 8 years you acted out the Bush Derangement Syndrome, like a petulant child who, sent to his room, proceeds to trash it, i.e., this country.
Get a grip, get some gray matter.

Gestell,
I think many of us who campaigned against BO are out looking for work.

Wrong, Rich Galen
In the second to last paragraph you wrote:

"A 21 percent Democrat-controlled Congress leading a 71 percent wrong-track country gives Republicans have a big, bright target to help Americans separate the Obama White House from the Pelosi/Reed Capitol."

What Republicans need to do is not separate B.O. from the Dems in Congress, but tie him to them and especially the more objectionable parts of their agenda.

kbTexan
That IS a great quote. And timely.

What should the Republicans do?
I have an idea. Why don't we treat this EMPTY SUIT, the way the Democrats ALWAYS TREAT OUR GUYS? How about that? Why don't they give him the same HONEYMOON, that the Democrats gave G.W.B.? Why don't they treat his nominees, the same way the Democrats treated President Bush' nominees?
But, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Not THIS bunch. SPINELESS. GUTLESS. Worthless. Nancy Pelosi's more MAN than any 5 Republicans, combined. They're all BENDING OVER, and rubber stamping his 'Bridge to Socialism'. Do you think that the Democrats would EVER let a Republican Nominee get through, who DIDN'T PAY HIS TAXES? ESPESCIALLY, the guy who was gonna run THE I.R.S.? Or, how about, one who's SPOUSE, was out running around the World, picking up Truckloads of money, from every DESPOT in the neighborhood?
I've got news for these PUKES. NONE OF YOU, will be coming back. NONE OF YOU. My Grandmother had a saying: "Sh*t or get off the pot". DO SOMETHING, or GET OUT!

ANOTHER ELECTION IN 2010

In November 2010 36 seats in the Senate will be voted on. We must encourage all states to look to a Republican or Indendpendant Party to remove the now seated Dems. One good bit of news is that Chris Dodd said he would not run again. How about all of you in Nevada? Surely you don't want to reelect Harry Reid. If the power in the senate and congress can be changed, it will also limit much of Obama's power. In 23 months a lot can happen to change the influence of the Senate.

When the Dems were the minority
they gave Bush everything he asked for - from his wars, to his patriot Act to his bankruptcy bill to his FISA bill...

maybe Repubs can return the favor...

though they won't - they never do...

From the Blog! Thanks for inspiration

How do you solve a problem like Obama
How do you counter all this talk of "Hope"
How do you solve a problem like Obama
A novice at best, a puppet we think, a Dope!

Many a man has tried to be the POTUS
Even some women too, but that's a joke
The last man we had to choose
Is famous for dodging shoes
And now all we have is talk of change and hope.

Oh, How do you solve a problem like Obama?
How can we stop him with his racist style?

How do you solve a problem like Obama?
How many scandals has he had so far?
How do you solve a problem like Obama?
He seems so immune to reason, this idol star

Many the times he's stumbled or mis-spoken
Many the times he's had reporters swoon
But why should he get a pass
His house too is made of glass
Why should we all just dance for this buffoon?

Oh How do you solve a problem like Obama?
We must oppose him, 'til his time is past.

Solving A Problem
To solve a problem, there needs to be a solution. Also,a problem solver. The Republicans are not problem solvers, they assist the ones causing the problems.

They don't want to be called obstructionists,so they whine about a problem, then reluctantly go along to get along.

Even the socialist,Bernie Sanders voted against this latest boondoggle, bur Orin Hatch and many other Republicans supported it. Susan Collins,to her credit did not.

Is Obama really a problem?
Obama may be A problem, as in there are many problems, of which he is one, honestly he is not a BIG problem. The biggest problem here is a paradigm wherein the role of the President has greatly expanded beyond that which is set forth in the Constitution. FDR got the ball rolling in this, but continued acquiescence and acceptance of a somewhat imperial Presidency, as opposed to a managerial Presidency has helped bring us to what we have today. As conservatives(note, not Republicans[another paradigm that needs to be changed])our energy would be better spent focusing on Congress and governors. What we want in Congress are candidates and "ins" who will not come to Congress with an understanding that they are their only to enact legislation within their Article 1, Section 8 purview, and that anything beyond that they will scream bloody murder, and adamantly oppose in any way possible the continued usurpation and subsuming of the Federal government for agendas arising from value sets contrary to individual first, then state, then federal.

2 party paradigm
It would be particularly helpful if we relinquish the thought that we must only participate in a two party system. One might argue that all this will do is further enable leftists to make greater gains, to which I say they are already are and a schizophrenic Republican Party is only playing the role of the enabler. I honestly see no value in waiting for them to get their act together, which looking at Boehner and McConnell they are in no rush to do. Do you really want good government, I mean really? Then leave en masse and join the ranks of the Libertarians, the America First Party, The Jefferson Republican Party,or America's Independent Party. These parties are purer and not mired in the wielding of power for the sake of wielding power. Note, if the Constitution Party will let go of the idea of seeing their values realized through government there may be a place for them, but in the meantime until they have a platform that is not also full of ideas originating in a value set that one cannot really make an argument as being found in the Constitution, they need to be shunned.

BTW
A small item here, the author throughout his writing here made use of polls and I can only say that Thank God such vile things were not around to be put to use by the Founding Fathers, who stood on principles of right and wrong regardless of popularity. Oh for a few prominent good men of like stature!

One early problem to deal with
Some time in the first two years of Obamalot a comprehensive immigration bill will be presented to the Senate after overwhelmingly being passed by the House. We had better pray that McCain will have come to his senses and realized that he and his fellow Republicans are looking at a future unbreakable coalition that will give the Democrats control over this country that will never be broken. 41 Senators is a razor-thin minority and should two Republican Senators bolt, we are all screwed. And imagine an amendment to the Constitution that repeals the XXII Amendment.
Second American Revolution anyone?

next move
the next big thing on the obama agenda will be the employee free choice act.nothing is more important than this.we need to get union membership back to 30 or 35 percent.at least 50 percent will be ideal.then we can start rebuilding the middle class that bush has trashed the last 8 years.the backbone of america is coming back.

How Do You Solve a Problem Like Obama?
Throwing money at a problem of ecenomics is not going to solve anything. Jobs is the important thing and no one wants to tackle that. Thanks to Clinton NAFTA ruined our industrial base, so the American workers are seeing outsourcing and downsizing.

Do we really want to restore our enomony? Restore our manufacturing base. "Made in China" has gone on long enough.

ROY
Are you serious? Do you really believe the “Employee Free Choice Act” is a good idea? Would you mind giving up YOUR right to a secret ballot? On this forum, you get to post comments anonymously. Would you be willing to post your full name, current address, phone number, and work address so we can come to your house or place of employment and convince you your views are incorrect? If not, then why would you want workers to give up THEIR right to a secret ballot?

Mrs. Paddy
Hey Sweetheart! Don't quit your dayjob; your poetry is worse than your politics. Somehow, I don't think that your 5th grade level diatribe will be replacing 'Leaves of Grass' in the American pantheon anytime soon. Nice line about his "racist style", though; very emabarrassing and revealing as such accusations always are when they come from racist hoopleheads who still can't believe "those people" can use the same drinking fountains as us. Hey! I've got a poem for YOU!

Roses are red
Violets are blue
McCain and Palin lost
And so did you!

Get used to it.

mark
see the problem isn't really with the secret ballot.i would support a secret ballot if the election could be held the next day or within a couple of days.the problem is elections held 6 months or a year later.the company will threaten and coerce and fire employees who support the union.they will also do mass hiring in the interim and tell the new hires their job is safe as long as the union does not get in.thats why i'm not too worried if it happens to get filibustered in the senate.all the new labor secretary has to do is change the rules on when the election is held and that will be almost as good.

ROY
Good comment. I don’t believe in coercion in any case. I don’t want the union to coerce workers into joining a union, and I don’t want the company to coerce workers into NOT joining a union. At least with a secret ballot you don’t have to worry about some goon (union OR company) breathing down your neck when you vote. Let’s champion freedom.

The Illustrious Mr. Galen
So Rich, 'ol buddy; what gives with the lightweight "on message" talking points masquerading as a column? Did all those years following Dan Quayle (Dan Quayle! Priceless!) around like a lapdog just get you used to the idea of mailing it in? I hate to say it, Rich 'ol pal but you are beyond lightweight. You are simply Bill Kristol, on a bad day, in a sun dress. Oh, and Rich? That picture of you on your homepage with the Tom Clancy shades and the flakjacket? Bad idea. When a republican, national guard chickenhawk wears a flakjacket, it just reinforces the point that he's - you know - a republican, national guard chickenhawk.
I mean really, Rich; how would you feel looking at a picture of Sean Hannity in body armor? Ummmm.....you know what? Just forget I asked that question; some answers are best left unknown>

How do you solve?
Part of that song also goes "How do you make her stay and listen to all you say? " I think Obama hears but does not listen! He has his own agenda or worse he has no agenda and is just trying to please as many of his supporters as possible. I think I'll get a bumper sticker in about six months or so that says "Don't complain to me I voted for the other guy" Too, bad more of us weren't more concerned about our paycheck and our comfort than the nation.
Can't wait for the next State of the Union Address.

Let Curious George have at it
Republicans can go out and play golf and drink beer. They just need to make sure they're around when it comes to vote "No" on whichever Bill the Democrats bring to the floor.

For the next four years, do absolutely nothing but vote "No". And when Curious George's play-acting as President comes homes to roost...no Republican's name will be associated with the disasters that Curious, Barney Frank and all the other Barney Fife's up there have brought us.

It's real simple what Republicans need to do.

The 'Obama Problem'. . .

We need, as well here Republican Leadership - with backbone - who are willing to articulate the truth in the starkest of terms, every day so as to counter the Left's daily 'rewrite'.

Could not our Repub Leadership taken this latest occasion where Obama 'chides/warns' Congressional Republicans to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, to challenge - in the bluntest of rhetoric - Obama's subversive ideas/agenda? (Is there a difference in Obama,Inc. wanting to shut down the 'market place of ideas'; whether by 'suggestion' or by 'Fairness Doctrine'; and that which is intended by the Communist/Left's employment of 'Reeducation Programs'? Is there not a symmetry here of negative and grave associations?

America cannot be 'too late smart'. We NEED the 'forewarnings' of what are painful truths; so why NOT a deserving wake-up call here? Republican Leadership needs the truth of powerful language to pull the Truth through fog of Leftist spin.

Our Country is being deftly re-crafted by the radical Left. We need our own reeducation effort; and with words that are in fact, frightenly honest, while, as 'good citizens', we still have a voice; and while we still have citizens who can hear and recognize the truth.

"The relatives of people killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11 telling the press they are furious at the prospect of terrorists being set free upon the closing of Guantanamo will wear away some of the glow."

Are these the same relatives that Ann Coulter dismissed as 'broads enjoying their husbands deaths'. Or are these different relatives? So when these relatives of the victims are backing the GOP agenda they're ok, but otherwise they're to be ridiculed and pilloried? Just checking...

"He epitomizes a huge problem in the repub party – in order for cons to win someone must lose."

Right. You know what it reminds me of? That story of Soloman - two women come to him with a baby, both claiming it's hers. So he says "Fine, we'll cut the baby in two, you can both have half". So one of the women says 'sure, better half than nothing'. The other says 'Oh no, don't kill the baby, let the other woman have the baby'. The GOP are like the first woman - they'd rather see the country fail so that they can inherit what's left.

I don't know any liberal who ever said 'I hope Bush screws the country up so that we'll win next election'. But all the commentators here seem to be praying that the country will fall deeper into recession so that they'll benefit from it. That's treasonous as far as I'm concerned.

AndyR - Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!
I love America and I don't want O to fail unless he proceeds with a form of Socialism, etc. or increasing the Nanny State and Big Brother.

If you are pushing an Otopia, I want absolute failure. There has never been a country that has succeeded where the majority are supported by a miniscule minority.

Even The Garden of Eden became a prairie of evil.

Heck! I will move to my beach house in Mexico.

*swak* thanks for noticing. Actually, I have much better parodies on my blog...over a hundred, in fact.

My favorite is my Sestina, though. It is a real, bona fide poem. Anytime you wish to graduate from your second-grader Roses are Red mode, let me know.

As far as the racist line: I didn't make his inauguration a racial circus...he did. Pardon me for noticing that Whites need to Get it Right

My take
Good article. President Obama is off to a bad start. I truly expected better. He's smarter than that, or so I thought.
In this horrible economic climate, I'm truly surprised at the things he wants to throw money at. ACORN, which contributed to our housing dilemma, American bucks paying for elective abortions all over the world, Tim Geithner for U.S. Treasury Dept. Secretary (guess the demonized Joe the Plumber could do that job), and on and on ad nauseaum. Tisk tisk. I guess we'll see how well all this flies.
I suspect some buyer's remorse will set in during the first 16 months.

No Problem but Opportunity to Succeed
Rich, Obama is not a problem. You said so yourself - "leave ... Obama alone for the time being. He'll make his own mistakes." Then you listed many actual and potential. He has made more every day for 7 days so far.
There are more ways: Give him the Blagojevich treatment - fast track Federal prosecutor release of tapes or other data from Obama's Blackberry, Dingleberry, whatever he insisted on keeping, his computer especially since he let his campaign say McCain could not use a computer (due btw to war injuries as a POW, not at Gitmo but elsewhere).
The Blago blabo tapes might suffice, certainly to nail Obama staffers who might actually be working for Obama or against him. Hard to tell at this point.
Any records that can be discovered of what went on in the darkness of non-transparency in the Kennedys, Clintons deal that Paterson effectively scotched for whatever reasons.
FEC really nail Obama on his campaign funding.
Then fast track impeachment like Blago is getting from his own IL Legislature - Dems and Repugs.
Some, any entity, e.g., Congress that certified McCain's eligibility, SCOTUS, FEC, Electoral College - opportunity missed, DNC or Obama's rapidly becoming former media Slobberers - thanks to Bernard Goldberg for that word - force Obama to release for independent verification any and all records, including those in Kenya and Indonesia, regarding his eligibility.
Those are just a few ways; rather not mention any others. Matter of fact leaving him alone may be the best idea given the characters in the line of succession.
In a fit of pique and power Pelosi might do him in if he crosses the lines she has set. Reid is too balled up in his own political survival to do much.

How do you solve a problem like Obama?
Find out where he was actually born.

ropati
you mean they went back in time and planted that birth notice in the honolulu newspaper?

roy in IL/ropati in CA
roy the flaw in your defense which we have heard before, like an Obama briefing paper point and soundbite, against ropati’s solution is that the answer to your question is no. It is more likely, reasonable, logical and sound to assume, which you do roy, that 1) Obama’s unwed teenager mother knocked up by somebody – a black man – had Barack Hussein Obama aka Barry Sotero in Kenya 2) as Obama’s Kenyan grandmother, some others of his Kenyan blood relatives and the Kenyan Ambassador to the US say, 3) as Kenya is rejoicing and placing memorials at what they say is Barack’s birthplace 4) that of the first citizen of Kenya/Great Britain born in Kenya is POTUS, and 5) the mother of Barack, later Barry, then Barack again and BarackBarryBarack’s white grandparents, parents of BarackBarryBarack’s white mother had a birth announcement placed in the HI newspaper with concocted information simply to report the birth of the mother’s first child, the grandparent’s grandson, and 6) the State of HI issued a birth certificate in keeping with Hawaii State laws and practices then.
Some say there is no record of any relative of Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Sotero ever living at the address in the HI newspaper birth notice. As to newspapers, most unreliable sources for a long time and even more so in current times, the Honolulu Advertiser ran a 3-4 short paragraphs article reporting two low-level Hawaii state records clerks had seen Obama’s BC in their vault. Further there was a BC on file for Obama. That’s it! Not that he was born in Hawaii, nor did they say where he was born or to what parent(s) in which hospital with which attending doctor, other medical attendant or witness whatever. (cont.)

That story appeared in the Advertiser a few days after Barack spent $40,000 in campaign funds to go alone except for aircrew and professional attendants, security via Barack One private jet to visit his dying white grandmother, interrupting his campaign to do so. Barack did not attend his white grandmother’s memorial service with her family members and friends after she died. News media reported he intended to attend a private memorial service at some later date.
He returned to Hawaii after the election, stayed with family and supporters, campaign workers and security in a luxury beachfront resort, was photographed shirtless at the beach, etc. No report has surfaced of his attending a private service for his white grandmother - the woman who took him in, raised him, sent him to exclusive private school while he did illegal drugs, met often with a Communist mentor – a black man some say may be his real father. Then Barack/Barry went off to Occidental College from where he visited Indonesia and Pakistan on his Indonesian passport with his Muslim buds from college and stayed in Muslim homes in Pakistan. The story goes on from there, much of it in the two auto-biographical books – Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope. Some say and Barack has never denied William Ayers wrote or edited those books for Barack. On p. 120 of the latter book, title taken from a Rev. Wright sermon where Barack says he sat for 20 years deaf, blind and dumb, never hearing a Wright Black Separatist rant, Barack explains his entire life up to that point as his “exotic background.” There are some other interesting quotes from both those books. Bottomline: The issue of Barack’s eligibility for POTUS candidacy let alone taking the Oath and serving as POTUS will be resolved only by Barack releasing subject to independent verification all records and documents proving his US citizenship, rather than his hiding the information at great expense including to deal with the, at last count I saw, dozen or so lawsuits originating in different states by different plaintiffs – one of them a Hillary Clinton supporter. That will be the only thing that puts the conflicting stories to rest, affirms or denies them, and for some people deals with the mysteries of the Kennedys – Caroline to replace Sen. Hillary after Hillary’s SecState confirmation. Some also wonder about Obama’s willingness to help Hillary pay off her campaign debts, his letting Hillary slide by the 60-something vetting questionnaire especially in regard to Bill’s acquisition of money from foreigners, including a preponderance of Muslim countries. Barack’s release of records on all these matters, including his campaign financing, will show his commitment to “transparency in government” and resolve all speculation. Then he can serve unencumbered by all this, gain much-needed credibility, prove he did not swear a false Oath (erroneously on Jan. 20) repeated later at the WH and possibly remove the US from jeopardy of anarchy, chaos and 3rd-world country status, and risk of all his actions as POTUS being illegal and voided. I hope he does and wish him all success.
