Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

This is a FLASH TRANSCRIPT of a fake press conference with Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. It might not be accurate in every respect.

HAND HOLDER: Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I would like to introduce Ms. Caroline Kennedy who will make a brief statement and then answer questions.

CK: Thank you. My name is Caroline Kennedy and I have informed Governor David Paterson that I am interested in being, you know, appointed to Senator Hillary Clinton's seat when she resigns to become the, you know, Secretary of State. I will now take your questions.

Q: Wha - Why - Who are you? I mean, what are your qualifications?

CK: I'm not a conventional choice, I haven't followed the traditional path, but I do think I'd bring a kind of a lifetime of experience that is relevant to this job.

Q: Specifically ... ?

CK: I have written or co-written seven books.

Q: What were those titles?

CK: Well, you know, there was "A Family Christmas," which is a collection of Christmas stories, and "A Family of Poems" which is a collection of poems my family really, you know, likes; and "Best Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis" and, you know, many others.

Q: So, these are mostly collections of things other people have written? CK: Obviously, you know, we have different strengths and weaknesses.

Q: What else ...

CK: I'm lawyer, you know.

Q: Have you actually practiced law?

CK: I've been an education activist for the last six years.

Q: So, can we ask you about some of your positions on public issues?

CK: Sure.

Q: Education?

CK: My strong point.

Q: What about the suggestion that public school teachers trade tenure for merit pay as has been suggested by the head of the D.C. school system?

CK: That's a really controversial idea, and I don't think standing alone, you know - Washington, D.C., is a separate thing. I mean, New York City has a million - 1.1 million kids, 90,000 teachers; Washington, D.C., is a really, really small system. So I don't think it is a one-size-fits-all.

Q: Will you take a position on this issue?

CK: If you just pick out the most controversial one as a stand-alone thing, you know, I don't think that's really the way to go about this. I think if people can vote it'll be really interesting to see what happens.

Q: How much money do you live on each year?

CK: Um, you know, I'm not really going to answer those kinds of specific questions. If I'm chosen for this, I'm going to comply with every kind of disclosure that's available.

Q: You're from one of the most famous Democratic families in American history. How will you treat Republicans in the Senate or in New York?

CK: It hasn't been sort of a partisan kind of career that I've had. So I think that at this point in time, that's what people are looking for. I think that's one of the things I have learned from my uncle. I mean, he's worked with Republicans, Democrats, anybody who can get the job done. Q: What about Mike Bloomberg? I mean, you worked in his administration.

CK: Yeah.

Q: NC: Do you plan to vote for Mayor Bloomberg in 2009?

CK: I plan to vote for the Democrat.

Q: What if he doesn't get on the Democratic line?

CK: I plan to vote for the Democrat.

Actually, almost every answer ascribed to Ms. Kennedy is taken directly from the transcript of the interview she did with the New York Times over the weekend. I combined some answers and cut some others up, but they are a true representation of her lack of knowledge of just about anything connected to the job of being a U.S. Senator.

I did a Fox hit with former Democratic Congressman Marty Frost yesterday. His principal defense of Kennedy for this job was that she endorsed Obama so she might be more money for New York.

Two things should be clear to everyone:

1. If her name were Caroline Schlossberg, no one would be taking her seriously.

2. If her party affiliation were (R) instead of (D) the Saturday Night Live writers would be working feverishly with Tina Fey to skewer Kennedy next weekend based upon her abysmal lack of any qualifications for the job.

Um..., do you understand FAUX? I was not impressed with her book either. I was just saying that she was as qualified as Hillary.

My entire post was tongue in cheek. But I must say that, I do not think that Caroline as a junior Senator could do near the damage that Chuckie Schumer has done as a senior Senator!

SNL sketch
Still waiting for the SNL sketch with Barack asleep in the pews as Rev Wrong goes on one of his GodD@@m the US of KKK rants. Michelle can be screaming amen and you go Jeremiah at the top of her lungs. The kids will be trying to wake the slumbering messiah telling him all have seen the light but him!

I commented on this before
regarding a Tina Fey impression of CK. You won't see one. You see, that would make CK seem even MORE foolish than she does now....and liberal SNL simply does not entertain the notion that a Dem should EVER look foolish.

Senator Schlossberg
It's a foregone conclusion that she will be seated. Has anyone ever said no to a Kennedy? Why they could get by with murder and still be a senator in the Democrat Party!!

SECOND DISQUALIFIER

.....She's a member of the Kennedy clan ...a pox on their house I say .....COLOSSUS

SWEET CAROLINE

.....Qualifications: Neil Diamond wrote a song about her ...so he claims: ...

Where it began
I can't begin to knowin'
But then I know it's growing strong

Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd believe you'd come along?

Hands, touchin' hands
Reaching out
Touching you
Touching me

.....The bigest disqualifier for me? ...she has a law degree ...all lawyers should be banned from public office for conflict of interests .....COLOSSUS

I heard one of Caroline Schlossberg's
publicity agents on TV explain, WITH A STRAIGHT FACE, why this woman was "qualified:" It was "because she is a woman and a mother." Well, well: that puts her in a pool with about 100 million other Americans. That pool diminishes significantly --and seems to eliminate her-- if you count only the mothers who can speak in gramatically-correct sentences. Ask not what the Kennedys can do for you; ask what you can do for the Kennedys.

"Author" and "Constitutional expert"
Florida resident and LC:

IIRC, in her "constitutional book", she spent less than 3 pages on the 2nd Amendment. Which tells you much about her views. Also, she did not consider it an individual right. It was a long time ago that I looked at that "book", but I wasn't impressed then, or now.

Krystalbird Ct.

Uh....,In post #6 I was trying to be faux positive about her becoming a Senator. I do not think a Junior Senator can stop the senators I mentioned when they decide to sidestep the Constitution.

Are you related to Ranger29?

Speedreading is not your forte'.

Best government money can buy!
Yep, that is what we have...

Double Standard
I have nothing personal against Carolyn Kennedy but this whole situation gets my dander up. She has no formal political experience and yet many in the media and the general public are salivating over her possible appointment to Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.

Yet when Sarah Palin was put forth all I heard for weeks was: "No Experience, No Experience, No Experience". It was like listening to a flock of parrots. Palin had been a city council member, mayor, member of a state energy commission, and now Governor of a state. Yet you would think she just got off a flying saucer from a distant planet based on the media's critique of her qualifications.

I know that when Caroline's brother John, his wife and sister-in-law tragically lost their lives in a plane crash many in the media thought the chance to see another Kennedy grab the brass ring was over. Little did we know that big sister had plans of her own.

I suspect she will get the job based on her celebrity value alone but I would hope that the New York Governor will appoint someone more qualified. Again nothing personal against Mrs. Schlossberg(You hardly see her married name in print. Big mystery there, huh?)

LC....
...that was really lame. At least Caroline will KNOW when Pelosi & Reid have overstepped? Sooo...what you're saying is that CKennedy is a dish rag? No spine? No skills? No talent? No intelligence?
BTW, what WERE her grades way back when she was a cute little girl?

Sweetie Caroline
Look at all the other senators, especially Democrats. She would fit right in. Botox Biden,an example of incompetence, has been there for decades, warming a seat. Now,he's almost a VP.

If she can walk and chew gum at the same time, she can be a senator from NY. Why,all of a sudden people are looking at accomplishments? Her maiden name will assure her of the job.

No one questioned the Governor of Alaska's accomplishments when she was asked to be a running mate on the Republican ticket, did they? Let Caroline be Caroline. She will fit right in on the hill. You know?

Marconi
She had a pony named Marconi or Macaroni. As Jerry Seinfeld would say, who do you know that had a pony?

Defending Caroline
She IS a Constitutional lawyer. If she becomes the Senator from N.Y.the Dems. will have at least ONE member of Congress that has some knowledge of that important document. She may not DO anything to stop the likes of Reid, Pelosi, Schumer, Durbin, Dodd, Franks, Feinstein, Boxer, and even Barry Dunham when they ignore it...,but at least she'll know they have overstepped.

But the BEST defense is her response to a New York Times reporter. I forget the inane question that she was asked, but Caroline responded by asking if the reporter worked for some kind of woman's magazine. Does that not show that Caroline cannot be that bad? She recognizes the caliber of journalism that the Times is spewing out.

And really...,she is no more a lightweight than the senator she would be replacing.

My hope is that Caroline gets the job as place holder. Then at election time, when she has to actually campaign for the votes, Congressman Steven King runs against her,WINS, and N.Y. will elect a REPUBLICAN Senator for the first time that I can remember!

Rich and Famous...
Here is an example counter-intuitive of what the popular culture imagines about money and fame, an example where rich-and-famous does nothing to endear itself. Much in America's recent decades has engendered mindless, herdlike worship of image, mega-exposure in the visual media, sunglassed battles from limo to luncheon lounge, and self-serving importance of armies of photographers with motor drives privileging themselves - and maybe us, lucky us - in fame's presence. Caroline Kennedy may have cracked the image more than a bit. Thanks for the iconoclasm!

I have a better idea...
...as a native of upstate New York,I say how about NO ONE to replace Clinton?Clinton and Kennedy are both carpetbaggers anyway.Neither one could represent New York. They could only represent themselves. This is why average people get turned off to politics and politicians.

A curse on the whole"system"!

Ernest Point well taken
I,m sure NY has better people than I know about..Give Rep King a shot or the Loudmouth city councilman whose name I can't recall..No more Kennedy's is an outstanding campaign motto!

Princess Caroline
As an upstate New Yorker, I take exception to the commentators in this site that just assume all NYkers will adulate and fawn over CK just because of her famous family name. In my opinion, the empty senate seat should go to someone of demonstrated ability and performance in elected office which leaves her out. It also leaves out Andrew Cuomo based on his performance at HUD where he assisted in the armtwisting of banks to make more sub-prime loans to minorities. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Senate, either.

Who wrote her "constitutional" books ?
Dear participants of the discussion !
A quick search in the Library of Congress shows that both so-called "constitutional research" books by Mrs. Caroline Kennedy where written in co-authorship with Ellen Alderman. I have a strong suspicion, that being busy with family (I do have a great respect for that), with social obligations, with fundraising, and being wealthy, Mrs. Kennedy just hired Ellen Alderman to write these books. It was rather honorable of Mrs. Kennedy - to acknowledge other person's work, but I think it still was other person's work.

So, someone needs to
explain to me the difference:

1. Blago trying to sell Obama's senate seat for campaign contributions; and
2. Patterson appointing Caroline to the senate because she can raise alot of campaign donations.

Quid pro quo?

OK, I admit...
... I've had a crush on Caroline ever since we were both 6, but, on this Senate seat biz, she seems to have a sense of entitlement that makes Hilary look modest.
(PS... for "Fraser" fans -- have you wonderrf if Caroline was really Niles' wife Maris who we never saw?)

And the mind-boggling continues...
It is simply beyond the pale that the msm/snl, etc. absolutely skewered and continue to smear Gov. Sarah Palin and her "lack" of experience, and yet they positively fawn over Obama and everything Kennedy.

The only thing more repulsive is the 67 million fools who voted for this charletan and the New Yorkers who will no doubt vote for "Sweet Caroline" because she's a frickin' Kennedy.

This family has been a pox on America. I hope to live long enough to witness the last Kennedy in power. Good riddance!

You know?
What's the big, you know, flap over, you know, the overuse of, you know, you know?

She is great
She has less than a billion in fortune, can sometimes speak in entire sentences without saying you know, you know? and has wanted to serve since 9/11. That must have been 9/11/08

This lady and her family should all go away. I for one am sick of all of the family and rich only rule of this nation.

How can Biden be getting a place holder for his seat so his son can have it in 2 years??????

We are doomed as a nation as long as any and all of this stuff continues..IL, DEL, NY, - it's all about money and power and holding on to both - the people be damned

Caroline who?
Its time for the Kennedys to go. Is there a less qualified person in NY for the job? Lets get them

Great column, enlightening and incisive
Thanks for a great column that was enlightening and incisive!

WTF?
An airhead bimbo with zero accomplishments running on her family name? Sounds like the perfect replacement for Hillary.

Kennendy
SHE FORGOT TO VOTE, BUT SHE DIDN'T FORGET WHO TO KISS UP TOO. Read it at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/2008/12/she-forgot-to- vote-but-she-didnt-forget.html

Caroline Kennedy
Caroline Kennedy: Significantly Less Qualified Than Sarah Palin

Gov. Paterson should consider someone
as qualified as the most unqualified.
