Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Good news is hard to find coming out of Iraq. In fact, any news coming out of Iraq is hard to find because a good deal of the news is good and therefore is not news.

Dear Mr. Mullings:

County, Indiana tried to figure out how to steal the election for Obama, but what in the world did that first sentence mean?

ASPA - American Sentence Parsers Association.

You know the old saying, "No news is good news?"

Yes. We believe we may have heard, read, or seen that once or twice in our lifetimes.

Well, when it comes to Iraq, the saying is turned on its head: "Good news is no news."

Good one.

Word flashed across the Internet late yesterday afternoon that Iraqi forces had captured a guy named Abu Ayyub al-Masri in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Who is Abu Ayyub al-Masri?

Al-Masri is the head of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, is all. According to Al Jazeera: He is the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian who was killed by a US air attack in 2006.

One of the first reporters to break the story was Fox's National Security reporter (and Mullfave) Catherine Herridge who correctly pointed out that it was Iraqi TV and the Iraqi government which had announced this - not the US military, which was being careful to distance itself from the report until independent confirmation could be obtained.

According to Reuters, "In late June 2006 the United States put a bounty of $5 million on al-Masri's head."

Given the current state of the US Dollar, that is now about $1.57 in 2008 dollars, but never mind.

Whether or not the Iraqis have the right guy, the broader point is that the central government is carrying the fight to the insurgents. If al-Masri wasn't snagged last night, he will be at some point.

While there are no straight lines in nature, the Iraqis are taking control of their country. Absent a unilateral departure of American and coalition forces (if-you-know-what-I-mean-and-I-think-you-do) Iraq will be a peaceful, successful, democratic ally of the West.

New Topic:

NOTE: The following actually had the approval of the Mullings Director of Standards & Practices!

What with this being Friday and all we, at Mullings Central, have a hard time being too serious for the entirety of the 750 word effort, therefore we bring to you the HEADLINE OF THE MILLENIUM!

I know the MILLENIUM is only about eight years in, but I'm telling you your great-great-great-great grandchildren will remember this one as the best headline.

From, of all sources the BBC … and I am not making this up:

Great Tits Cope Well with Warming

As you might well imagine, this headline got my attention. Beach Volleyball?

Hollywood starlets?

Discovery Health Plastic Surgery Channel?

Nah.

Turns out the Great Tit is a bird. A regular bird. It is a bird whose chicks eat caterpillars and with warmer weather there appear to be more caterpillars for the chicks to eat and, ergo, the Great Tit chicks are thriving.

Get me Al Gore on the phone.

A few words about Mothers' Day:

According to one site:

In the U.S. Mothers' Day is a holiday celebrated on second Sunday in May. It is a day when children honor their mothers with cards, gifts, and flowers.

And, for some of us, schlepping up the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 8A.

Seriously, though, being a Mom is probably the hardest job in the world. No matter how old their children are, they are still the babies. They worry when they don't hear from them; they brag to their friends when they do; and they heave heavy sighs in between.

God bless them every one.

Al Masri
Hey King Liberal or your new nickname Fertilizer Brain: They did capture Al Masri. Check YOUR facts moron. I'm sorry. I shouldn't insult morons.

Sandy1
Abu Ayyub al-Masri was not captured. The name calling makes your post especially pathetic. The entire article is ironic in that the entire premise of good new being suppressed on purpose for political reasons is in fact good news being faked for political reasons.

good news from Iraq
thank you. good to get good news for a change, Be sure to give this article to those Iraquis and to the marines who will be killed tomorrow. Im sure they will appreciate it,

KL
I think that Mr Galen was attempting to get across to the readers that have the ability to comprehend, is that Iraqis are taking the initative, taking the fight to the bad guys. What kind of complaint would you have if it were Masri??? Would you then say that he will be "tortured" and that we need to be nice to this guy to make him talk so as to save American & Iraqi lives? After all, isn't that the main goal and isn't this what you are demanding? The sooner those guys are capable of handling themselves we can start pulling out, as opposed to just giving up & leaving.
It amazes me that anytime there is any GOOD news, whether it be of small significance or major accomplishments, it is NEVER good for you guys. You are always so negative.....your cup is always 1/2 empty & it is always partly cloudy in your little world. Try being a little bit more optimistic and root for your country to WIN so that our troops can get home sooner....plus it's better for your blood pressure.

KL
I would love to post & debate this more with you, however I'm getting ready to lv office & will be away from the puter until ?Sun. There is alot I would have liked to present to you. Just be patient as the surge is working...slowly, butt surely. Have a restfull wkend.

KL
see no progress, hear no progress, speak no progress.

whether they caught him or not, do you see how the IRAQI military is doing some of the dirty work? In fact I have a friend over there that claims since his last tour the Iraqi military has basically taken over. He says our military basically oversees what goes on.

see no progress, hear no progress, speak no progress.

Which Al-Masri
Will the REAL Al-Masri please STAND UP?

Right name, wrong guy, this time.

The fellow they are looking for received training in many places, including Iraq well before 9-11. He has also been in Iraq as part of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia since 2002. So much for the canard that Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism against the US and that AQI only came about as a result of our successful 2003 invasion.

Verse II: I rather imagine that many (although not all) of those 16M non-deployables requested waivers so they could go with their unit. Unlike VN, unit integrity is being maintained in this war. Consequently the Army is holding together quite well both in spite of and because of the hardships.

Bobby Muller's career is based on the notion that veterans are victims. That is why I'll have nothing to do with him or his organization.

Good News = Bad News
Your premise "Good news is no news." is spot on. I would extrapolate to say, good news in Iraq equals bad news for some.

Some politicians and media outlets have staked their careers in defeat. Does this sound familiar? “The war in Iraq is lost and a US troop surge is failing to bring peace to the country!” April 2007.

I don’t expect see any “news” highlighting improvements in Iraq in the msm.

GREAT COMPROMISE
The similarities are extraordinary. Spring and summer of 1864 Lincoln was sure he would be replaced by McClellan. The North was war weary and the proposition of Emancipation questionable to many northerners. The balance took military success in the field. Grant's Grand Strategy was bogged down in the east and Sherman was being out generaled by Joseph Johnson during the approach on Atlanta.

The Democratic Convention in Chicago had a Great Compromise offered to the South "Restore the Union and keep your slaves"; ergo, Democrats then would have invalidated and humiliated every death and sacrifice just to usurp power.

*********** NOTHING HAS CHANGED! ************

Liberals can be so funny!
We could produce Osama tomorrow and the libs here would find some way to prove that catching him is disasterous to America.

Remember folks, before communism/socialism/fascism gets to take power they need to manufacture "Crises". In the 20th century Fascists used war to unite the masses behind their twisted ideology. Now, since the dem party has been hijacked by "Peace at any cost" wimps, they can't use the old way to steal a country, instead they manufacture Crises like "Gore-bull warming", health care crises, Education Crises, and "Unwinnable wars".

Our liberal friends like King Lib are proudly following in the footsteps of their heroes, Mussolini, Franco, Castro, Hitler, and Chavez.

Don't believe me? Pick up a history book written before 1975.

OK KL, now's you turn to tell me I'm totally nutz, even though you know I speak the truth.

Libs have to lie about everything because their entire ideology is based on "The Great Lie".

Yup, It's all GOOD NEWS
According to US Intelligence Estimates the PEAK number of Al Qaeda in Iraq was about 10,000 and as of March 15th, 2008 there were about 6000.
Petraeus and Craker reported in April 2008 that there are 540,000 Iraq Security Forces,
the US has 140,000 Troops, Our Allies have 10,000. That is 690,000 and I think you have to add the Awakening Force (Sons of Iraq) which was reported to be 80,000 at $16 Million/Month which would bring the total to 770,000 Good Guys vs. 6000 Bad Guys. We have have lost over 4063, they have lost about 4000, we have had 30,000 wounded, Al Qaeda have had ??? wounded. Allies have lost 310, Allies have over 1000 wounded, Iraqi Security Forces killed ????? (top secret), over 100,000 Iraqi Security Forces Wounded, over 100,000 Iraqi Civilians have died due to War related incidents, 300,000 - 500,000 Iraq Civilians have been wounded, over 4 Million Iraqi's have been displaced from there homes in the FIRST FIVE YEARS.
If we continue this TERRIFIC PROGRESS it will take at least another 7 years to kill or capture the remaining 6000 Al Qaeda. ALL the other metrics will most likely follow i.e. another 4000 Dead GI's.
OOOPS I forgot, we have to continue fighting the CIVIL WAR until there is only ONE PARTY remaining. Then we will have come FULL CIRCLE.
Of course as a result of this great track record General Petraeus will be promoted to Head of CENT COM and awarded the 5th Star by June 2008.

Rogue Cowboy
General Petraeus will NOT be given a 5th Star.
The rank of General of the Army is not currently authorized. Nor will it be unless we see the return of the massive Armed Forces of WWII.

Good News From Iraq
It is SO SIMPLE to be anti war, ANY war, so primal. The greatest thing about that stance is it doesn't require THOUGHT!! Maybe America's enemies should be fighting & murdering on our streets as they did on 9-11!

Rogue Cowboy
You had a great list of stats on your reply #19 but then drew all the wrong conclusions. How did you do that?

Do you realize that Iran and Al-Queda are instigating a civil war in Iraq in order to discourage people like you from continuing the fight?

Are you aware of Iran's and Al-Queda's hegemonic ambitions in the region and worldwide?

Are you aware of the consequences of leaving Iraq too soon?

I think not.

ApolloSpeaks
Thank you for going positive instead of negative by pointing out that Al Qaida is getting its butt kicked in Iraq.

Yes, Iran has become more powerful since we took out Saddam but I should point out that Iran has been working on its nukes since before Gulf War II. I'm not at all sure that our actions resulted in any acceleration of Iran's covert nuke program nor its hegemonic power. They were developing nukes anyway with Saddam still in power. There secret just got revealed before they were ready.

If we hadn't taken out Saddam, then I'm confident that Iran would have eventually. Iraq and Iran were already in an arms race before we got there and Iran wants to expand its Shiite caliphate to Iraq. That's why Saddam attacked Iran. Saddam feared the spreading of the Shiite Iranian revolution to Iraq due to Iraq's high population of Shiites.

Additionally, our occupation of Iraq has not been a disaster by any stretch of the imagination. Mistakes were made but name one war without mistakes.

Perhaps you recall the dire predictions of mass casualities by the anti-war crowd prior to Gulf Wars I and II. They never materialized. If we knew before the invasion that only 4083 troops would be lost altogether, then we would have concluded that that was an acceptable loss compared to the benefits of toppling Saddam.

Please don't exaggerate the importance of the mistakes. The media has given way too little time to extolling the successes of the War on Terror - especially in Iraq.

Accent the positive....
Thank you, Mr. Gallen! Two good replies by Steve. The liberals don't like GOOD NEWS about Iraq!
