Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

An increasingly anxious Obama campaign had to have been watching in horror as Jeremiah Wright continued to elbow his way onto the national political stage with his performance at the National Press Club in Washington the other day.

The Washington Post's Dana Milbank short-handed Wright's remarks as follows: "Wright praised Louis Farrakhan, defended the view that Zionism is racism, accused the United States of terrorism, repeated his belief that the government created AIDS to extinguish racial minorities, and stood by his suggestion that 'God damn America.'"

Louis Farrakhan is the head of the Nation of Islam and has said things like: "Do you know some of these satanic Jews have taken over BET [Black Entertainment Television]?... Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the record industry, movie industry and television."

And that wasn't 10 years ago. It was five months ago in November of last year.

After claiming that the oft-viewed clips of his sermons were taken out of the context of 30 years of preaching, Wright is now - with, as the Chicago Tribune called it, "caustic sarcasm" - defending those very snippets and putting them very much into context.

On the campaign trail, Sen. Barack Obama said of Wright, "He does not speak for me. He does not speak for the campaign."

Obama is wrong. In the minds of many - if not most - Americans, Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama are very connected, spiritually and politically.

The Boston Globe's Joseph Williams wrote:

A series of high-profile appearances by [Wright] defending some of his more racially charged remarks threatened to undermine Obama's campaign just when he is trying to connect with white, working-class voters on the eve of crucial Democratic primaries in North Carolina and Indiana.

And Obama doesn't need any more problems on the white, working-class voter front. Obama tried to shake the "elitist" tag a couple of weeks ago by going bowling, at which he was dreadful. Jell-O mold to the K of C Hall. For the annual Founder's Day Pot Luck Dinner.

The other day he threw a verbal gutter ball by saying:

"I was raised in a setting with my grandparents who grew up in small-town Kansas where the dinner table would have been very familiar to anybody here in Indiana: A lot of pot roasts and potatoes and Jell-O molds."

So … he was describing his grandparents' dinner table in small-town Kansas. The pot roasts and Jell-O molds and all. Was Obama faced with pot roasts and Jello-O as well?

I … don't … think … so.

And, we must assume, this was the same grandmother whom, Obama told a world-wide audience, damned-near fainted at the sight of Black people; "a woman who once confessed her fear of Black men who passed by her on the street." In that small-town in Kansas. As she carried her famous pot-roast.

That description was typical of an elitist, Ivy-League-educated, snobbish, pretentious dope who thinks Hoosiers still sit in front of their black-and-white TV sets watching Howdy Doody reruns while waiting for their Jell-O molds to set up in the Frigidaire.

Here's the thing: I was Congressman and Senator Dan Quayle's press secretary. I spent a lot of time in Indiana. I'm not certain I ever saw a pot roast or a Jell-O mold.

I did see a potato. But, it didn't have an "e".

Jeremiah Wright is basking in the glow of the national spotlight; the spotlight which has been denied him lo these many years in favor of fellow Chicagoan Jesse Jackson and New Yorker Al Sharpton.

Jeremiah Wright is working out the decades of frustration, having attempted to do good works for the poor and underserved in Chicago while Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been on the national stage in top hats and tails like Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle singing "Puttin' on the Ritz."

But the unkindest cut of all comes, again, from the Dana Milbank piece: "Most problematic for the Democratic presidential front-runner was Wright's suggestion that Obama was insincere in distancing himself from his former pastor. 'He didn't distance himself,' Wright announced. 'He had to distance himself, because he's a politician.'"

Maybe, on that, Wright was right.

Gee
I see conservatives are still cheing on the Big Issues for America, like Obama's pastor.

I certainly hope the Miley cyrus columns will appear today.

Let gov't think_4_yourself:
think_4_yourself:
I completely agree with you. America should not focus on inconsequential issues such as character, judgment, and honesty. They should instead focus on obama's voluminous voting record, accomplishments, and his worthy goals of increasing taxes in an economic slowdown, making health care the biggest government monopoly (and hence the most efficiently-run organization ever like the rest of government programs), and his redistributionist policies. I especially like the last one becasue I am so sick of people who spend all their time studying in grade school, college, and postgraduate school and have the audaciicity to expect to make more money than the downtrodden and "ground upon" poor people. It is just NOT FAIR! So, well said "think_4_yourself".

Hawk
I also agree with Think.

We shouldn't talk about character, we should talk about candidate's preachers. Why? Because the media and the Republican campaing strategists tell us us, and because they know TH has a virtual stable full of willing players.

Forget the economy, the war, health care, food shortages, torture, consitutional assaults and a bungling government!!! Those are so hard to talk about, and they actually require real information! E-e-e-u-w!!

Let's meet after this at the mall and we can write a public letter to Miley Cyrus and geat down to issues that REALLY matter, like her character and accomplishments!!

Character
is at the heart of Obama's relationship with Wright. It may be difficult for functionally
disabled critical thinking progressives to understand but the people Obama dissed in Pa, the bible believing, church going guntoters have
more horse sense than the elite lefties Obama hangs around with. We Americans in fly over country get the picture quite clearly, much to the dismay of trolls and we resent it. No amount of dissembling can cover the fact that people of character do NOT sit placidly by while
a hatefilled so called preacher goes on hate Whitie rants and calls upon God to curse their country, thereby cursing them. We rubes understand the seriousness of such cursing and we
kind of take exception to it..got that.
the war, health care (which is none of governments business) and any other policies come from the character of the ones proposing and legislating. So far, character hasn't mattered in both parties (with a few exceptions),
we got a dose of what lack of character can do in the Clinton's 8 yrs such as selling secrets to the Chinese for campaign money, 900 FBI files, Billy Dale, the women sexually assaulted by Bubba. Character does count, policies come and go but character is who you are and how you
behave in any given situation. Character to paraphrase JC Watts is how you behave when no one is looking.

Civility
I only ask that everyone remember decency and civility as they charge each other with not entirely accurate claims. We have become, in my humble opinion, a culture of violent accusers. Topics such as food eaten at the table are entirely IRRELEVANT. We are a country in economic, political and educational crisis (not necessarily in that order). Let's focus on how we can restore the values and gains that others until recently respected in America, and NOT focus on petty, pot-roast differences. Living abroad because of work the last 10 months, I only get disrespect and contempt from non-Americans. We, indeed, deserve it, thanks to our foreign policy of the last 7-8 years. This, my dear fellow citizens, was not the case 10 years ago (when I was also forced to live abroad because of work). How will we restore our compassion? How will we learn anew how to sacrifice for our country? How will we move beyond this destructive anger? A start: by choosing, NOT, to engage, in violent communication. PLEASE, let us be thoughtful....
My each and every one who reads this commentary remember to be civil--until recently it distinguished us from less tolerant societies.

Why it all matters
Taken by itself, what Barack Hus-Change Obama's preacher believes is of little consequence to Obama's ability to run the country.

It's a good thing we don't take it by itself.

Obama's wife, Michelle, has stated that she was "proud of this country" for only the "first time in [her] adult life" only AFTER Obama had a comfortable lead in the primaries early this year. Could her mindset about America have come from Rev. Wright and his ilk?

Obama, himself, in his autobiography, expressed a racist view of whites in general in a few exerpts. One that sticks out is the story where he was taking a white friend (who had just finished a basketball game) to a party predomanently attended by blacks. The friend was less than enthusiastic and because of that, Obama wanted to punch him in the head because he was clearly racist (and not fatigued after a basketball game.)

More recently, Obama expressed disdain for small-town Americans (predominantly white) who bitterly "cling" to guns, religion, and bigotry. That statement was every bit as offensive to me as "God d--- America."

Are Obama's views on America, Americans, and race not influenced AT ALL by his racist, blasphemous, anti-American pastor? Personally, I doubt it.

Obama's lame excuses for his pastor's behavior, and claims that Obama has never been influenced by Wright's words ring especially hollow, to the point of looking like lies.

With the "apology" speech, it's too little, too late.

WHO SAID IT?
"Being President is ALL about character."

Ans - Pres. Andrew Shepard, The American President

(the flick)

Democrats Are Racists
They have been sucking up to these white-hating, American hating blacks for 50 years.

It is time to punish these Democrats for embracing these bigots. Do it in November.

RICH
The extent to which, Rev. Wright is "Wrong",maybe more than obvious,to some. However, what would be the obviousness,if he were "Right"?Americans must take this opportunity and define it,in such a way, as to put the future in prospective for the World. When "US", have these "Family" squabbles, more than us are hearing. What they are hearing, has to be explained to them,by"US"!Children play with toys, this is their greatest distinction, from thinking adults.I "HOPE" you HEARD me...

Tea Party
"the people Obama dissed in Pa, the bible believing, church going guntoters have
more horse sense than the elite lefties Obama hangs around with. "

--------

If the MSM and the 24 hour conservative propaganda machine hadn't made this an issue, you wouldn't be talking about it or even thinking about it.

When was the last time you held a uniquie opinion on anything that wasn't handed to you by TH or Fox News?

Think_4_yourself
"I see conservatives are still cheing on the Big Issues for America, like Obama's pastor.

I certainly hope the Miley cyrus columns will appear today."

-------------

I know you were being sarcastic, but it's actually happened.

An entire column about Miley Cyrus has shown up on TH. Lol.

dumbstar and unable to think
of course the hapless twits canot understand how the oblahma is nothing more than a calculating politician who uses others to further his own career. He sought out wright to establish a black identity and when wright becomes an embarrassment he throws wright under the same bus he threw granny when he made his pathetic speech blaming white for racism.

Butwith the left character never matters. We all saw how they rushed to the defense opf clinton and fought for his right to molest women as though bubba was worth saving.

But once bubba got in the way of the left's new messiah, the oblahma, the left turned on the clinton's to promote their new fraudulent candidate.

But just as the left defends nambla, they now have no problem with vanity fair taking soft porn photos of a young girl as though it can pass as art. The left remains pathetic and these two twits think they are defending principle.

If wright weren't an issue the oblahma wouldn't have tossed him aside like dirty socks.

Trolls
So what's the talk all about on (glue)Huffn'post, or the daily Kos(munist)? If you don't like the posts, or columnists here you are most welcome to BE GONE TROLLS, be gone forever. (That's a secular-humanist-communist curse on you and your progeny, trolls.)

Holocaust Remembrance Day
Today is Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. For those of you who have been reading my blog, I have posted my third and final entry on the Holocaust earlier this morning.

Please take the time to stop by and read it. If the words I have written speak to you, then I ask you to pass them on. Email it to others and spread it. I think it's an important we all need to read and take to heart.

God bless you all,

Curtal Friar

Apollo Speaks
The old saying 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' is valid, where a man is concerned, too. Unless this is a plan cooked up between Obama and Wright long ago ,in case their affiliation with each other ever became an issue.

If Wright is truly out to kill Obama's chances,he is doing a good job at it. Whatever his reasons,he has a gigantic ego,and it has been damaged and he is out for revenge.

The Angels may be smiling on us,yet.

Wright was right....
....on one part of his press club speech. He said that blacks were wired differently than whites, that their brains fucntioned opposite of whites. How true.

All one has to do to see this truth in action is to drive through a black-governed city and then a white one. No pun intended, but the differences are "night and day".

Black cities are high-taxed, dangerous, and crime-ridden as they are ruled by narcissistic, corrupt "leaders". And forget basic city services.

Yes, there are huge differences in regard to black and white brains.

Stop the nonsense
It is simply irrational to attribute words spoken by Jeremiah Wright to Barack Obama or any other member of this man’s congregation. Republicans are clinging to this non-issue because they are desperate to stop Obama since he would wipe the floor with McCain in November should he become the Democrat’s candidate; yet, only the most gullible would attach one person’s opinion to someone else, especially a pastor’s opinion. The clergy are all delusional by definition.

Rob...
You sound like a black brain in action.

for deathstar
deathstar writes: "Forget the economy, the war, health care, food shortages, torture, consitutional assaults and a bungling government!!! Those are so hard to talk about, and they actually require real information!"

This is not an academic debate by a college debating society.

This is PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS. The prize to be won is the world's largest economy and the world's most powerful military machine.

And we will use whatever we need to use to get power, to keep power, and to wield power. As long as no laws are violated.

If we can get mileage out of Reverend Wright, then that's what we'll use against Obama. If we can get mileage out of issues, then we'll use issues too.

Understand the game we're all playing now?

Who does NOT understand the policies
that each of the 3 candidates wish to implement? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Of course we all KNOW that Bambi and Hitlery want to implement the most divisive, Marxist, racist, taxing policies just as quickly as they can. That point is not arguable. Of course, they wish they didn't STILL have to stick to this line because this is normally the time that they try to co-opt the Republican platform to try to appeal to real Americans. Knowing their stances on the issues therefore necessitates delving into their character.

This is actually THE most important thing there is. Contrary to the other writers who try to get off this issue (hint - because it's a losing issue for them because their candidates are shady characters) this is what needs to be talked about right up until November. Do you want a President that represents YOUR values? Of course we do, that's why we need to flesh out those values.

Politicians are masters about mincing their words, so it is necessary to have them on record as answering every permutation of the words there is, lest they find weasel room. We learned that long ago, and our recent national catastrophe of horn-dog Bill as President doubly reinforced that (uh, it depends on the meaning of "is"). We are only reaping what them dims have sown. Why do they have such a problem with that? Already answered that.

Rob
"The clergy are all delusional by definition."

I suppose you also believe that all Jews are stingy and that all Irishmen are drunks? I don't think you have any business calling anyone a bigot.
