Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

After Sen. Barack H. (!) Obama’s speech on Tuesday the Intelligencia Politica, largely declared it having accomplished its task of changing the national debate from the vitriol of Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of Obama’s church, to a larger debate on race in America.

Susan Page quoted me in her USA Today piece on Wednesday morning:

"I don't think it's going to change anybody's mind," said Rich Galen, a Republican consultant in Washington. "People who were for him before will say, 'Yes, that's right,' and people who were against him will say, 'That's not right.' "

Galen said what he was "absolutely unmoved by the notion of going from the abomination of slavery … to somehow using that to justify the un-American and vitriolic language of Jeremiah Wright."

Now, it seems, many people agree with me. According to the Gallup poll track, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is sitting on a five percentage point lead over Obama 48-43. This is in contrast to the Gallup measure on March 16 (two days before The Speech) when Obama had a two point lead over Clinton – 47-45.

My well-documented arithmetic skills indicate that is a seven point swing in Hillary’s favor in five days.

Thank you, Mr. Wright.

On the Michigan/Florida re-do front, it is now clear that the battle lines have been drawn. The Obama camp has no reason to want to re-run primaries in two states which Hillary would probably win.

First, it would close the gap in delegates between Barack and Hillary. Second, because they are huge states she might win by enough (when you add in Pennsylvania) to take the lead in the popular vote over the primary season, and third it adds to the Clinton theory on Super Delegates that a late surge for Hillary supports her claim that Obama is unelectable and they should hand the nomination to her.

Clinton has attempted to make the case that is was the Republican Governor and the GOP-controlled legislature who put the Democrats in this position. But the Republican Party of Florida has published an excellent bit of research showing that the Democratic members of the Legislature were all for this.

Among them, Rep. Dan Gelber, the House Democratic leader, was reported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as scoffing at warnings by DNC chairman Howard Dean saying:

“I don't have any constituents in the DNC,” Gelber said. “I only have constituents in my district. They would like to be more relevant.”

The issue of if, or how, to seat some or all of the delegates from Michigan and Florida is now almost certain to be a cloud hanging over the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

It may well lead to fights in the Rules Committee, the Credentials Committee and, ultimately, a floor fight.

As a professional, sober, and experienced observer of politics in the United States I have two words for this possibility: Woo Hoo!

Remember all that nonsense a couple of weeks ago about what bad news it was for Sen. John McCain for having wrapped up the GOP nomination on March 4th while Clinton and Obama were going to be slugging it out for months to come?

The RealClearPolitics average of head-to-head match ups shows McCain essentially tied with both of his potential opponents. McCain actually has a lead of slightly more than one percentage point, but that is meaningless.

Given the state of the economy, the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq, the lack of any positive news for Republicans at the US House or Senate level and the constant claim of the popular press that Democrats are so much more energized than Republicans, how can this be?

Hillary and Barack should be beating McCain by 20 points.

Jeremiah Wright should be beating McCain by 15.

At some point the national political press corps is going to come to the realization that the prospect of a Democrat being sworn in as President on January 20th next year is becoming increasingly dim.

To those for whom it is relevant, have a wonderful Easter weekend.

DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT, RICH
In exposing this man to be the fraud that he is, this speech worked just fine, thank you very much!!!
Go Hillary!! Go!!!

Blame the media

Thank the media. If this election was about issues -- instead of irrelevancies -- the Republicans would be lucky if they weren't deported. On second thought, given how bad this country is after seven years of being run into the ground by Bu$hCo, being deported might not be such a bad thing.

How did that happen?

Even more amazing is after the democrats spent well over $300 million dollars to promote their ideas McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent against Obama in the November presidential election, and leads 48 percent to 40 percent against Clinton.

This election is truly a choice between turd sandwich and giant duche, and turd sandwich wins again.

not his best column
I don't know whether the speech worked. But the fact that it has not turned about the polls at this point is hardly significant. Galen, as a political consultant probably knows that.

The next time actual voting goes on will be a month from now in Pennsylvania. Then we will have a better chance of knowing if the speech worked.

Claiming failure based on polls at this point is just spin.

Re: The "Journalistically Challenged"
"Thank the media. If this election was about issues -- instead of irrelevancies -- the Republicans would be lucky if they weren't deported. On second thought, given how bad this country is after seven years of being run into the ground by Bu$hCo, being deported might not be such a bad thing."

What are you talking about? The MSM, a.k.a. the DNC Public Relations Consultants, have been talking the economy down and refusing to report on our victory in Iraq for nearly 7 years now. The reason they don't "report on the issues" is because the Democrat candidates don't have any - they are "Freck and Frat" - whose issues are either "more experience" or "more hope and change". They two agree on the issues, which are that Marxism failed in the USSR only because it wasn't given a real chance.

Well, at least now we know, thanks to the ravings of "spiritual mentor, what Barack Hussein Obama meant by change. He wants to create the US of AA, the United States of African-America.

The speech didn't work
History indicates that slavery was practiced since cavemen started fighting, and forceably taking women. Holland and England ship captains practiced slave trade, transporting trade goods to Africa, and trading for the black tribemen and women captured and sold by black tribal dealers. Ship crew did not run around in the bush looking for cargo. England shipped criminals to the colonies, and returned Indian slaves to England. Whole world practiced slavery, and most countries still do. So that dog won't hunt.

My immigrant grandfather walked from Palantine Germany to Holland in 1870, indentured himself to pay for passage, and worked that off in what is now Philadelphia, Pa. Then with new suit, and cash, he walked to present Cumberland, MD area and became weathy landowner by own talents.

In November I will vote for the candidate who has performed in past, and will defend Constitution and Country. That will not be Obama or Clinton. I don't know what war Obama would fight, since he seems to be against any and all wars. Appeasement will destroy our country. Hillary is to easily confused by what others tell her (Pres. Bush lied to her and congress). REALLY???? She votes for, before she votes against, and U.S. citizens deserve someone who stands for something and sticks to it. Her experience consists of Bill's lack of defending the country, with bombing, killing, and maiming of citizens on his watch, and he did nothing. None of the speeches will change my mind. When the phone rings at "3 AM" I want a President who will listen to advisors options, and MAKE A DECISION. Then stick to it, and not blame someone for lying to them.

Re: My country always wrong
"I don't know whether the speech worked."

"The Speech" only with those who believe as Obama, his wife, and his pastor does - which is that America is the cause of all evil in this World.

What I find interesting is that boy that shun patriotism like plague earlier in this campaign season, refusing even to wear a tiny flag pin or respect the flag by properly saluting it, now couldn't get enogh flags on stage as his backdrop for "The Speech". What that expression about "the last refuge of a scoundrel", again?

not so sure
And what do you think the consequences will be for those media types coming to the realization that a Democrat will not win the White House?

Look for more coverage of McCain gaffs making him look like a dottard; look for more stories about his possible health problems; and look for other stories trying to pry him from the conservative base (immigration, Gang of 14, etc.). It has always been in the media's interest to keep the race close in order to keep selling their product.

And no matter who the candidates are, this is still a 50-50 country, with a country very weary of George Bush and Iraq. Democratic wounds will heal much faster than Republicans might suspect.

But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the show while it's on!

Re: Beastie
Actually, the media has been very reluctant to report any good news about any of the administrations actions. The surge has done what it was supposed to but do you see any main stream media reports on that or that the Iraqi government now has a constitution and it's meeting the so called progress points? Nope you don't hear a peep out of the media. Instead they are freaked out by the tanking of their favored son and having it shown that he's associated himself with a theology of hate America, hate anybody not black and hate some more just for fun. Sorry, but I would say that for a change the campaign is about the issues. Issue number one why do democrats hate their fellow americans and in fact hate the nation that has given them such privilege? I think the issue is clear we go with McCain who obviously loves the country and tries to serve the country or we go for either democrat who wants the citizens to serve them as slaves. Personally, I'll choose McCain you can put a collar around your neck if you want to by voting otherwise.

Obama will be the first man...
At the rate Obama's going, he'll be the first man to get athlete's foot in his mouth.

Buyers remorse for Obama voters
This guy should have been vetted by the liberal media long before now. its scandalous how fawning and flattering the press were to this charlatan.

But it may be too late now for thsoe democrats who already voted for him, and are just now realzing what a huge mistake they made-and how badly served they were by the press.
Its up tothe superdelegates to save them-thats the reaosn they were created uncommited inthe first place. This is thereason superdlegates were created in the first place-not to rubber stamp misled and badly deceived voters.

cornpone harry
The liberal press would back Lenin or Hitler if either ran for the Dem. Party nomination.

They don't care who it is as long as it's not Bush and not Rep.

Unfortunately for the MSM, they settled on McCain for the Reps., maybe figuring he wouldn't be vigorous enough or challenging enough for the fight.

Now it looks like the Reps. have gotten excactly what is best for the nation: a candidate who's never had an earmark, never voted for a tax increase, has always been a fiscal conservative, and was always ready to be commander in chief.

Zogby just published a poll that says the candidate the people want to answer the red phone at am is McCain. He should run Hillary's TX ad and make more people see he is the only adult in pres. politics this year.

Buyer's remorse too late
Lon:
you're of course assuming that this event will be like others that are very insignificant and only brought up the the media to try and drag other candidates like McCain in the dirt, like a rumors about rumors about a non-existent 10 year-old affair. No, this is different my sucker. There are alot of sound bites to use in Oct, and this debacle cuts the legs out from under anything Obama's campaign was standing on. The ironic thing is the lemon has been bought, so to speak, and can't be returned even though buyers are having ALOT of remorse...

Obama will win State of ..denial
Jimbo, take your meds. Ken, well put!

Hawk
If I was making such an assumption about how the story will play out I would have said that I know that the speech worked (or didn't work) rather than I don't know if it will work.

I do know that there is no reason to take seriously the people who think that this speech will only be effective with people who hate America. The speech has already been praised, for example, by Charles Murray hero of the right back when he was proving blacks are less intelligent on average. I have no reason to believe he hates America.

In fact the speech will work for the 30% of the population that is reliably democratic. And it never had a chance to work with the 30% who still thinks the Iraq war is a success and anyone who criticizes it is unamerican. I do not know if it will work with the 40% in the middle.

Can you believe the Huckster??
Trying to justify Rev. Wright's comments as a religious message. Mike, I am more glad than ever you are not our guy. A religious message to me is preaching Christ Jesus and his love and the love that He Himself taught and lived. Sorry, Huckabee, Wright's message is of Satan and full of hatred.

Obama Is Not Ethiopian
Obana is Kenyan and White.
He does seem to be a eunuch though. He marries a beast and hides behind her skirts. He has no 'nads. I also have to wonder about a preacher who puts on embroidered muu-muus and jumps around like he has St. Vitus Dance. Where's the cross-dressing loudmouth now?

Obama has revealed himself
as a fraud and liar.

I think that's the end of the unity theme.

He can't run as a man of peace and reconciliation and still spout Marxist drivel about the horrors of business, when commerce is the very reason the US exists. Without work and corporations, there would be no economy and no nation.

We've already seen through the fall of the former USSR and old Eastern European bloc that all the nonsense about socialism and redistribution of wealth that gov't-run economies don't work. They collapse.

In Cuba, the average monthly wage is about $12. The gov't doles out food--a lb. of meat and a couple chickens a month and a quart of milk a week. Policies of starvation have been practiced in the old USSR, China, the Eretrian revolt against Ethiopia, today's Zimbabwe, and other tyrannies where populations are kept in check from lack of basic nutrition. In Cuba's vaunted hospitals, you need your relatives to bring you food, as the hospitals don't provide any.

Many on the left hate the US, hate the military, hate capitalism and are looking for someone to turn the US into Sweden, a tiny country with a pop. little more than NYC that gets most of its electricity from water power and now has a post-WW II socialist system that is drowning in debt and obligations it cannot meet. It's young people are fleeing to Ireland and Slovakia where flat taxes and new freedom from communist terror is making those nations the envy of business success.

Obama is a Chicago political hack with no ideas newer than the 19th C. and post WW I pacifism. How he got to the position he's in today is a tribute to the lies and neglect of the MSM that tries mightily to sabotage the US on every level.

Is there a dictionary in the house?
Galen's "absolutely unmoved by the notion of going from the abomination of slavery … to somehow using that to justify the un-American and vitriolic language of Jeremiah Wright."

Yet another conservative demonstrating the complete lack of understanding of the word "justify."

Show me the passage in Obama's speech where he attempted to claim that Wright's words were "just" or "right." If you can't do that, then stop playing with the word "justify."

Justify from the dictionary means
1) to show an act or statement to be right;
2)to uphold as warranted or well grounded;
3)(theology) to declare innocent or guiltless

Obama may not have used justify in his speech in the 3rd definiton sense as he admits Rev. Wright's philosophy is like a slightly batty relative's, but he surely used his speech in the meanings of 1 and 2, claiming that people like Wright have those feelings and mouth those sentiments because American whites have given them cause, or upheld as well grounded in black experience.

He rehashed the entire history of racism in the US as an example and used his own grandmother's private fears and a single statement from Geraldine Ferrara to somehow counterbalancing his pastor's 20-years of paranoia and vitriol. No debate team would let a contestant get by with those slim examples.

Unity candidate he ain't.

It as one of the greatest speeches of all time.

Pure,unadultered
Republican porn. That's what's in store to come.

Hil can not win enough delegates or popular votes now w/ MI & FLA out of the pix.Now she has to concentrate on stealing many superdelegates before Denver.

She's got to knock Obomination down & stomp him good, display to the party he can not be elected.

Let the excrement throwing begin.

as a note
The first poll directly on the speech found 70% approving and 30% disapproving, with 70% claiming it won't affect their vote and the rest split evenly about which way it will affect their vote.

I think at this point this is as meaningless as the poll Galen cites. People tell pollsters what they think is right, but that isn't always what actually affects their votes. So I suspect it is an accurate guide that 70% recognize that this was a speech of reconciliation rather than the speech of divisiveness that most here are trying to portray it. But it still could have a negative effect for Obama if people associate him with things they want to ignore when they get into the voter booth.

Even Jack Kemp is tired of this issue
On Hannity & Colmes tonight, Jack Kemp took Hannity to task for his attacks on Obama and cited the Wall Street Journal as also saying this issue should be put to rest, so the country can get on with an intelligent discussion of the issues. This constant attack on Obama is starting to take on "racist" overtones and is encouraging the redneck segment of our society to be even more obnoxious than usual.

It Worked For Richardson
When Richardson today gave Obama his endorsement he said that for him the decision point was Obama's speech.

To Bobzetc
Yes, and I read today that a FOX anchorman got up and walked off the set and also that Chris Wallace had protested, both for the same reason you cite, that they don't like the 24/7 Obama-bashing that FOX has been doing, with Hannity leading the lynch mob.

Their theme is that they don't like Jeremiah Wright inciting blacks to be angry, but meanwhile they non-stop incite whites to be angry.

To Black Knight
Pearls before swine, I would say.

BTW I have noticed that many who think the speech was terrible also admit that they have never watched, listened to, or read the speech. Which does make a person wonder, how did they form their opinion of the speech? Either they've accepted somebody else's opinion, or they've judged the speech based on their own prejudice (pre = "before" + judice = "judgment", ie they made up their minds in advance.)

Chris Wallace segment on You Tube
Chris Wallace even got fed up with the Fox News bashing of Obama. Enough is enough. Let's start discussing the real issues - not the media manufactured ones.

THANK GOD!!!

Thank GOD so many people are FINALLY seeing bama for who he really is!!! Condie or Colin I would have NO problem voting for! (race is not the problem for me) but why would I have such a problem endorsing bama? because I smell a rat!!! (from the beginning...!) Why is it taking so long for people to realize? I just don't understand.......

Very good observation John Acton!
No flag lapel pin, no pledge of allegiance until he's in deep doo-doo... You're right, he couldn't get enough flags around him for that speech.

Suddenly he's a born-again patriot! The only good thing about this election cycle is watching the chickens come home to roost on all of them.

Hillary is under heavy fire and can't even blame the VRWC. She can't even breathe the noose is so tight. Obama *uniting* the races until Wright lands smack on top of him, feather's flying. And McCain having financial trouble because of McCain-Feingold.

At least they're giving us some laughs before one gets elected and proceeds to destroy us.

Rich should have waited....
...another day. The Gallup Poll which tracked Clinton up 49-42 the day Obama gave his speech fell to 48-43, then to 47-45-a statistical tie- the following two days.

The CBS poll out today shows sixty-nine percent of voters who have heard or read about Obama’s speech say he did a good job addressing the issue of race relations, and 63 percent of voters following the events say they agree with Obama's views on race relations. Seventy-one percent say he did a good job explaining his relationship with Wright. Most voters following the events say they will make no difference in their vote. Seventy percent say the events will make no difference in their vote. Among those who said it would, 14 percent said it makes them more likely to vote for Obama while an equal number said it makes them less likely to support him.

Conservatives have spent the past week inside their own echo chamber. Outside their little coccoon, Obama is well past the Wright issue. Now, it remains only for McCain to explain the outrageous comments of his own "spiritual advisor", televangelist Rod Parsley.

We're shocked Afro Rev's do this often
A page has been turned for the whites to read and now they realize this is not something new. Obama knows that too, but he must lie and try to look like a man by not dumping on his pal, so he dumps on G'Ma.

He has not passed the smell test for some time now. Ramember the Boneheaded Mistake. I have the only picture of that on MyManJohn.com

Some say he is the new John Kennedy. I don't think Jaquiline spent her entire life not being proud of America.

I have a drea......er ahem a Nightmare!!
Obama's speech was nowhere near the eloquence of Dr. King's. Obama was more "I have a nightmare" speech. The media still loves him and says what a wonderful speech it was, but many of us are unconvinced of his true thoughts on race relations. Dr. King would have rejected Rev. Wright's hatred right up front. Dr. King envisioned the day when through the love of Christ, we could all come together. The speeches are night and day different. One was visionary, the other was damage control. Segregation would have put his grandmother at the back of the bus, but his speech threw her under it.

I remember here in Missouri how the ads during the Bush campaign said that there would be many more black churches burned if Bush were elected. Bush was elected and reelected but the black church burning was not increased. They also ran ads about the chain dragging death of a black man in Texas insinuating more would follow. It didn't. Inflammatory speech like Rev. Wright has never helped peace or freedom.

I could hold Blacks in contempt for the Buffalo Soldiers who murdered American Indians in the name of the US Government. When has Obama or Rev. Wright apologized to the Indian nations for that? However, I choose to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and pray that we can all remember them so as not to repeat them, but to improve our collective future.

The left's hypocrisy re Obama
Obama opposed the judicial nomination of African-American Janice Rogers Brown because she once ruled that a racial slur could be protected speech under the First Amendment.

Obama opposed the judicial nomination of Southern civil rights hero Leslie Southwick (who did so in a time and place when it required actual bravery, not just a big mouth and ego) because he once ruled that under the circumstances in a particular case, a woman who uttered a racial slur should get her job back.

Yet when his 20-year record of supporting the virulently racist Wright is exposed, Obama pitifully cries that FOX is unfair, and his record shouldn't be held against his quest for the office of President. After all, (without a clue of the delicious irony) Obama accused his loving and generous grandmother(!) of being a "typical white person" because she once "confessed" to him in private that she was sometimes nervous when approached by unknown black men! (What's the line about a sociopath's willingness to step over their mother's dead body! You can't make up comedy like this!)

Ditto for willingly poisoning his daughters' minds by forcing them to sit through Wright's racist rants in hopes of scoring brownie points with his political base.

An Inconvenient Truth
Obama had the opportunity to repudiate Rev. Wright's comments and he failed to do so. His speech cruised through moral equivalencies to justify the pastor's irrational rantings but left honesty in the dust. He bypassed the latent message here: "Hey, I need Rev. Wright to validate my ties to the black community and to ensure I capture an overwhelming majority of the black vote."

When this so-called "magnificent" speech is deconstructed it exposes a charlatan, a Harvard-educated conman who disses his white forbears, like his African father dissed him, in order to gain power.

And we thought the Clintons would do anything to get back in the White House!

inorder to form a more perfect union, intelligent reasoning must occur.

read this morning posts from Kathleen Parker
yesterday.

Keep saying this to yourself and you'll
eventually believe it. Someone actually dug up one of the sermons. Apparently, there's more to the story than FAUX News and Fascist Hannity were willing to tell. From that udder blog:
----------------------------
I have now actually listened to the sermon Rev. Wright gave after September 11 titled, "The Day of Jerusalem’s Fall." It was delivered on Sept. 16, 2001.

One of the most controversial statements in this sermon was when he mentioned "chickens coming home to roost."

He was actually quoting Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force, who was speaking on FOX News. That’s what he told the congregation.

He was quoting Peck as saying that America’s foreign policy has put the nation in peril:

"We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.

"We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.

"We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.

"We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.

"We bombed Qaddafi’s home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against the rock.

"We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they’d never get back home. [cont.]

Liked The Speech
I won't be voting for Obama (or McCain, Clinton or Nader) for president but I thought Obama's race speech was really good and honest. For all of the politically correct weenies on the left and the tiptoeing politicians on the right, somebody has to talk honestly about race relations in this country. Now, whether I agree with Obama on anything else, that's another story. I'm almost thinking this Obama brouhaha is to take the country's mind off the McCain lobbyist story before there is too much digging into McCain's past. You know, fellow righties, this Obama pastor stuff is nothing compared to what's actually in McCain's and his wife's past and will most assuredly be put in front of the general public's nose, by the media, a few months down the road.

Rev. Wright's sermon (2/2)
[cont.]"We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.

"Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.

"Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism. A white ambassador said that y’all, not a black militant.
------------------------
Let's let that sink in: A WHITE AMBASSADOR. THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF *RONALD REAGAN'S* ANTI-TERRORISM TASK FORCE. He's getting beat up here for quoting a Republican?!?
-------------------------
Not a reverend who preaches about racism. An ambassador whose eyes are wide open and who is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said the people we have wounded don’t have the military capability we have. But they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them. And we need to come to grips with that."

He went on to describe seeing the photos of the aftermath of 9/11 because he was in Newark, N.J., when the planes struck. After turning on the TV and seeing the second plane slam into one of the twin towers, he spoke passionately about what if you never got a chance to say hello to your family again.

"What is the state of your family?" he asked."
--------------------
And then he told his congregation that he loved them and asked the church to tell each other they loved themselves."

How else do you explain the Bu$h Administration inducing people to vote against their personal self interest again and again?

Open thine Eyes.....
"Obama portrays Wright as the voice of black America for one generation, one generation that is pretty much on the way out, and himself as the voice of black Americans and of all Americans for a new generation."
There's some truth in that quote from another of the TownHall contributing writers....and it's very telling that Obama seems clearly to want to be FIRST a voice for black Americans, and then secondarily (an' maybe,), a voice for all Americans...
I am very concerned that this person will never be a president or leader of all Americans, but only that minority that elected him by nearly 100% of their votes...(of course, there's still the real chance he won't reach the White House - something I pray for several times a day!)

You speak for me. I'm glad i'm 74 and seen and been there during the glory days. Now i'm pretty much just a spectator watching what the kids are going to do with what Mr. Garand and i and a few million others left them.

To those for whom it is relevant?
"To those for whom it is relevant, have a wonderful Easter weekend."

It's relevant to those that care more about a political party, the GOP, than they do for our own nation.

McCain is yet another stooge-like Bush type. He's utterly not what this nation needs and in fact will continue the Bush legacy of a war without goals, big talk on border control but no action, the proliferation of Islam without constraint in our own nation while our boys die overseas, and more big spending coming from the GOP.

Yeah Rich, I'm really excited on this weekend when we celebrate the birth of the Messiah!

Unfortunately, in this next election the choices will be between waterboarding or having one's genitals electrocuted. Gosh, we're all so excited.

That Thomas Sowell is something, isn't he? A genius, no less. Thank you for a great quote, illuminating politics of our time. Sometimes i wish we could return to the days of Charles the Hammer, when politicians were judged by the strength of their arm, and their guts in battle.

What Obama's speech
has accomplished is this:

we are finally excavating Truth,
by Thinking America's past out.

and uncovering Truth cannot hurt.

it can only bless.

Wright's lies about lies, referencing falsehoods (like the non-existent "quote" about chickens), myths, untruths, venom, vitriol, poisonous, incendiary rhetoric - pretty much standard fare for liberal/Marxist, USA hating dhimmicrats.

No wonder you people vote for John Kerry and Algore types, two of the stupidest candidates ever, not to mention a whole raft of Congressmen and Senators who (with some RINO help) have driven our economy into the ground, all the while fleecing the sheeple for more and more.

We apparently have one thing in common - distrust and disgust for Washington D.C. but for diametrically opposed reasons. You because you don't get enough socialism and government control over our liberties, and myself because we're getting too much.

Obama's speech was flat out playing the race card. In spite of the swooning idiots in the MSM getting sticky shorts, it only worked with Wright minded people - not right minded.

The spectacle of them playing the heck out of the alleged peeking at the candidates passport records proves they understand the speech didn't work and are feverishly trying to change the subject - making Obama a victim, naturally.

Funny how nothing was ever said about the Clintons being in possession of 900 or more FBI files.

"Their theme is that they don't like Jeremiah Wright inciting blacks to be angry, but meanwhile they non-stop incite whites to be angry."

It's about time that whitey got angry. I'm getting sick and tired of being called a racist for no other reason than it gives an excuse to blacks to wallow in self-pity and not do a damned thing about the problems in their own community - problems THEY have created but continuously blame on whitey.

Blacks in my community have the same educational facilities, same teachers, same books and same curriculum as whitey, yet the dropout rate is three times that of all other races combined. It's whitie's fault, of course. Because of whitey, blackie can't get an education.

All over this country, illigitimacy, fatherless families, drug use, illiteracy, crime and gang violence is rampant in the "black community," and halfwits like Wright blame me, whitey.

Well you know what? I'm 65 years old. I was an activist in the 60's in the movement for civil rights. I've never owned a slave. I've never discriminated against people of any color. I've never coached a black to knock up a broad and take off. I've never told any blacks to sell drugs, do a drive-by shooting, knock over a liquor store, drop out of school, beat the snot out of his girlfriend, or shoot up heroin.

I'm at the point that after sixty years of constantly hearing the whining about the unchanging plight of blackie, and that it's whitie's fault, I say to those whiners, "So what? If they don't want to at least make an attempt to help themselves, then I really don't give a s--t any more."

"My immigrant grandfather walked from Palantine Germany to Holland in 1870, indentured himself to pay for passage, and worked that off in what is now Philadelphia, Pa. Then with new suit, and cash, he walked to present Cumberland, MD area and became wealthy landowner by own talents."

Dear Frank ~
An estimated time period of 150 years to yourself suggests to me that the ancestor mentioned may have been your "Great-great-great-great-grandfather", who "walked from The Palatine to Holland". Consider whether the year may have been earlier than 1870.

PLEASE will you transmit your story to a scholar "Nathan", studying for his PhD, while employed at a top genealogy research company? Nathan's Thesis is "Indentured Servants". He might be in a position to add to your family history. This could become a permanent legacy for your ancestors. This is the company web site: http://www.pricegen.com/ This is where you may search [FREE] for the name of your Indentured Servant ancestor: http://immigrantservants.com/ Please mention that you heard of Nathan and his company's web site from "Ruth who is researching BARNABY of early Massachusetts".

A TASTE OF BLACK THEOLOGY

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not
identified totally with the goals of the black
community. If God is not for us and against white
people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill
him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do
not belong to the black community. . . . Black
theology will accept only the love of God which
participates in the destruction of the white enemy.
What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black
Power, which is the power of black people to destroy
their oppressors here and now by any means at their
disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy
activity, we must reject his love.

Et Tu, Noonan?
Refer to Frank25 ~ Friday, March, 21, 2008 1:03 PM
"His defense rests on two central propositions: (a) moral equivalence, and (b) white guilt.
(a) Moral equivalence. Sure, says Obama, there's Wright, but at the other "end of the spectrum" there's Geraldine Ferraro, opponents of affirmative action and his own white grandmother, "who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe." But did she shout them in a crowded theater to incite, enrage and poison others?
"I can no more disown (Wright) than I can my white grandmother." What exactly was grandma's offense? Jesse Jackson himself once admitted to the fear he feels from the footsteps of black men on the street. And Harry Truman was known to use epithets for blacks and Jews in private, yet is revered for desegregating the armed forces and recognizing the first Jewish state since Jesus' time. He never spread racial hatred. Nor did grandma.
Yet Obama compares her to Wright. Does he not see the moral difference between the occasional private expression of the prejudices of one's time and the use of a public stage to spread racial lies and race hatred?
(b) White guilt. Obama's purpose in the speech was to put Wright's outrages in context. By context, Obama means history. And by history, he means the history of white racism. Obama says, "We do not need to recite here the history of racial injustice in this country," and then proceeds to do precisely that. And what lies at the end of his recital of the long train of white racial assaults from slavery to employment discrimination? Jeremiah Wright, of course."

It seems strange that WSJ speech writer Peggy Noonan became mesmerized by mere "words" that did not tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth." I'm voting McCain as well.

we all become mesmerized
when we fail to stop.

stop, to think.

stop, to excavate actual & factual events
which we forget,in the course of living
day to day.

I watch people in their mezmeric states
performing rituals all the time.

awareness is something we must schedule appointments with...

it seems, today.

You may say we feel guilty, or supreme, or oppressed, or whatever.

Truth is it doesn't [at all] matter.

To begin [in this very moment] to do what
is best for one and for all, is progress.

Jesus came to state the Truth
He ushered in forgiveness
without blame.

No one understood His plea
So people gathered round His feet.

Sadly, when He went away,
we forgot how we should pray.

Knowing God is Love,
flew out the window,
like before.

Then one day
yet, another came,
to once again remind
us,of the same.

Be confident in who you are!
Like Jesus, you truly are a star!

So acting badly is not very wise,
'cause God declares you clean [inside].

Tomorrow morning
we'll commence,
to remind our children
of this event.

But will we look up in the sky
and thank the Lord for this new guy?

We think he's scary
we're so afraid.
But, really now,
if we proclaim
our heritage as He set right,
we've nothing to be 'fraid of...

God is always right!

made that up as I went along, peace.

Obama is well defined by Rev Wright
I just love the way you liberals are able to spin EVERYTHING into justification for your political beliefs.
For Barack Obama to attend this BLACKS ONLY church for 20 years, to brag about Rev Wright being his personal mentor and inspiration to accomplish greatness, etc., let's get REAL!
Over the course of 20 years wouldn't you think he might also buy into the most of the beliefs and political agenda of this nutcase?
For Obama to NOW say he either was unaware of these statements and/or is personally offended or not in agreement with Wright is a crock of you know what.
The major thing Obama has going for him is that most Americans DO NOT KNOW HIM. Once they learn that his talk is inconsistent with his walk they will no longer support him.
Hopefully, it won't be too late.

Irrelevant Speech?
The speech may be irrelevant. If Sen. Obama reaches the general election, his position on the war will be his undoing, not his 20 year relationship with the Pastor.

I think the voting majority of Americans want to see the Iraq war through to a successful conclusion. This seems to be the one reason that many hard core conservatives would vote for Sen. McCain.

Any democrat will have to figure out a way to appease this group without losing the get-out-now crowd.

For Frank25
Great post.

Straight and to the point. It appears to me that Frank25 is more qualified to be President than Hillary and Obama combined.

For Reason
As I contended with you on the Coulter thread earlier this week, Obama did try to "justify", or at least mitigate, Wright's offensive words when he brought up slavery.

The fact of slavery does not make it true that:

1. FDR knew about Pearl Harbor in advance but let it happen anyway.

2. we did not bat an eye over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

3. the gov't intentionally infected black men with syphilis.

4. AIDS was created to committ genocide against blacks.

5. the white man is the "skunk" pf the planet.

Dragging slavery, segregation, and even the residual white racism that exists today into the discussion can only be an attempt to "justify" Wright's inexcusable speech. Otherwise why bring it up at all?

Obama could have simply condemned the remarks and said that such comments have no legitimate place in our national dialog, the same as he would if a white man had made similar remarks about blacks. But to do so would have cost him the support of too many blacks in his his base, so he had to "balance" his alleged condemnation of Wright's remarks by shucking blame off onto whitey.

BTW - the single biggest 'genocide' committed against blacks by whites occured between the 1960's and the year 2000 when an estimated 40 million Africans lost their lives to malaria because white liberals in the US gov't vowed to boycott any nation that used DDT to control mosquitoes. Somehow the great Reverend Wright missed that one. Could it be because the white liberals who are indirectly responsible for the deaths of 40 million Africans are his political friends?

Oh yes Florida and Michigan
Here we go again. Hillary has spun this into her being a hero fighting for the rights of poor Florida and Michigan. Just remember that, all of the Democratic Nominees signed a paper where they agreed that they would abide by the ruling of the Democratic party to not campaign in those states nor would they have their names on the ballots.

Hillary playing the innocent role here is outrageious. Sorry Hillary there is a paper with proof of your signature on it. She signed it because she really didn't care care about Michigan or Florida at that time, but of course with the arrogance she had she had already decided it wouldn't matter anyway, because she alone was going to win America by a landslide anyway and those states wouldn't matter and SHE DIDN'T Care.

But surprise, surprise, there are a lot of people who are tired of Clinton type polarizing politics, and they made their voice heard what they thought of her, she started loosing over and over again.

But now she has to make herself out to be a valient fighter for Michigan and Florida to have a fair vote, hoping that they will see her as their hero and give her all the votes for the both states.

DAH, how easily some people can be duped by forgetting the true facts.

Obama is abiding with the pledge he signed and Hillary signed. He keeps saying He will abide by what ever the DNC decides. And he also says he thinks the delegates SHOULD be seated.

Why then is Hillary and others, pointing their finger at Obama as the evil mean person.. It is her Democratic party that has made the rules to leave out Florida and Michigan and it is not Obama's fault.

The votes Hillary got in those states are invalid because she didn't abide by the rules made by the DNC that she agreed to and signed off on. Do we really want a tricky slimmy person that will pull stunts like this in the white house where there is virtually unlimited power?

here's a question
if you hate Hillary Clinton

and you hate Barack Obama

and you hate John McCain

and you hate Ralph Nader

you're obviously on a hate roll

so then what is your point?

selfulfilling prophecy?

Duped again
Didn't you get it, that one of McCains people piece together a bunch of stuff out of context and then put that out trying to destroy Obama. Don't be duped.

Beastie Boy
Thanks so much for printing the parts of the real sermon. I sure appreciated it.

Frank25 -
Good history lesson for all Americans. While there have been no slaves in this country in over a hundred years, we now have a class of indentured servents in our midst. Illegals are now attracted here to work for companies trying to bypass laws protecting American workers. These companies are too cheap to provide health insurance, vacation benefits, sick pay or even workers comp. They want disposable 3rd world labor instead of hiring Americans for fair compensation and benefits. We need to wake up before we become just like Mexico - with multiple families living together to make ends meet and barely enough to pay for a tortilla... This is where the anti-American left wants to take us - both Hillary and Obama. Obama may have great speechwriters, but this is his bottom line, proven by his Senate voting record.

"....votes can tell you much more about a man than twenty weeks of campaign rhetoric. Campaign talk tells people who you want them to think you are. How you vote tells people who you really are deep inside." -- Zell Miller (D-GA) 2004 Republican National Convention

Did you forget about abortion, Wiseone? The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, went public saying that she hoped abortion would result in fewer blacks being born. She said:

"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population," she said, "if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon

Ms. Sanger must be dancing in her grave with delight with the way things have turned out.

How many people know that? About 13 percent of American women are black, but they submit to over 35 percent of the abortions.

Lillie and the Libs
They really, really , really want this to go away. Well, fogetaboutit!!!

It is only beginning. We all look forward to hearing Obama's speech about why he is friends with William Ayers, domestic terrorist, Weatherman Underground, who bombed the White House, the Pentegon and a NYC Police station.

Boy, are we glad he did not have the skills of McVey!

Ayers said on 9/11 that he was proud of his terrorist activity and wished he had done more.

He is another chicargo Icon to whom Obama paid hioimage to when he started his career in Shytown politics. His campaign spokesman said last month Obama was friendly woth Mr. Ayers.

I cannot wait for that speech and the one abour Rezko as well.

In Obama’s book, DREAMS OF MY FATHER..
* “I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER’S RACE”

* “I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites”

* “That hate hadn’t gone away,” he wrote, blaming “white people — some cruel, some ignorant, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives.”

This guy is poison.

You qouted Thomas Sowell but your interpretation is the opposite of Dr. Sowell's.

"...a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe."
---------------------------
How else do you explain the Bu$h Administration inducing people to vote against their personal self interest again and again?"

By the way, when you vote you should vote for what's good for your country and not just yourself. Voting my pocketbook as you propose could result in immoral results that favor me over my fellow citizens. For example, I could vote for a candidate because he/she offers my industry a bribe (earmark or favorable legislation) giving my industry an unfair competitive advantage and thus harming my competitors. That would result in less competition. Consequently, the consumer gets screwed just so I can benefit. This happens all the time with teachers, union members and industries that lobby congress successfully. They vote their pocketbook and the rest of us get the shaft.

I hadn't considered abortion, probably because it was not a case of only whites imposing a policy that killed only blacks. So your point seems valid.

Still, if there have been a million abortions every year since 1973 and 35% were of black children that would make a total of about 16 million black children killed by abortion. Probably less than the number of Africans who have died from malaria in that same time period.

Obama, McCain and American Politics
Even though many Americans do not agree with McCain’s politics, at least he realizes that America’s international relationships have been damaged by Bush’s stance on global warming, torture and Iraq. See the article below covering McCain’s recent trip for details.
It is a shame that certain members of the conservative political movement are so far behind the times in recognizing the need to heal a lot of issues after eight years of Bush.

"McCain Offers Soothing Tones in Trip Abroad"
By MICHAEL COOPER

PARIS — Senator John McCain’s trip abroad this week — which took him from the Middle East to No. 10 Downing Street to the Élysée Palace here — was more than just a Congressional fact-finding trip, or even a candidate’s attempt to appear statesmanlike.

It was also an audition on the world stage for Mr. McCain in his new role as the Republican presidential nominee. And it offered him the chance to test his hope that he could repair America’s tattered reputation by shifting course on some of the policies that have alienated its allies, in areas like global warming and torture. But he is making his foray even as he embraces what much of the world sees as the most hated remnant of the Bush presidency: the war in Iraq.

Do an internet search with the title to find the rest of the article….

Nellie wrote: :Obama is the one candidate who will listen to good advisors in major decision making, moments.

We've now seen Obama's advisor for a thousand Sundays over 20 years on how to live his life and raise his family - Mr.(nothing Reverend about him) Wright, pickled in racial hatred.

Such impaired judgment in mentors and adopted family members is not very confidence inspiring.

Obama speech
I thought Obama's description of race relations in the U.S.A. was superb except for two things.

He equated Wright's hateful sermons with some white religious leaders who do the same.

Not sure he was thinking accurately in this respect.

As for a dialogue???

Until someone calls for a legalized ban on the questionable devices of a Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, among others, who are making a living on racism, nothing happens.

Let us see Obama address this issue.

In this respect, study the culture, not the constitution.

LPK

Phony, phony
The empty suit who reads speeches written for him blew it a long time ago. We did not hear about his white roots until it was convenient for him to try and save his arse. He had the opportunity to "unite" us back at the onset of his campaign. He had the chance to point out how his heritage, both black and white made him the man he is today. Instead, he chose to sit in a pew and listen to a hate monger and deny his white roots. When he did mention his white heritage he literally threw them under the bus and proceeded to back over them again and again.
The field this election season is poor. We are faced with two socialists and a rhino.
