Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

There has been very good news for the GOP over the past few weeks, which has gone unnoticed in the laser focus on the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

You may have noted a recurring theme in the Popular Press: How the disillusion, disappointment, disenchantment and dissatisfaction among Republican voters with the GOP is likely to lead to the end of the Republican Party as we know it.

The PP looks at the five major candidates in the Republican Presidential race being within 10-or-so percentage points of one another as evidence that Republican voters don't like any of them.

How about this as an alternative theory: ANY of the five will be acceptable to the overwhelming percentage of Republican voters in a race for President against Hillary.

As to that conventional wisdom that Republicans are so unhappy with their lot in life that they will sit on their couches watching the Fox News Channel 24/7 rather than getting out to vote let me present to you the following bits of good news.

Last week there were two special elections for Congress - one in Virginia and one in Ohio. You may remember that Ohio has become the toxic waste dump of Republican politics.

The Thompson campaign (to which I am a paid advisor) rolled through Columbus, Ohio about 10 days ago and Fred Thompson recorded a "get out and vote" video at the behest of the Ohio Republican Party.

We were told that the GOP candidate - in a district which has been in Republican hands since shortly after the Big Bang - was behind by about five percentage points.

Bob Latta came back to win that election keeping the seat in Republican control.

In Virginia, Rob Whitman won the special election in another Republican district. Virginia is not Ohio, but the loss of a US Senate seat and the election of a Democrat for Governor has put Virginia in play in the Presidential contest.

If either race had gone to the Democrat the Popular Press would have used it as a harbinger of bad things to come next November.

Here in Louisiana, Republican Congressman Bobby Jindal won the election for Governor. NPR noted that when Jindal (whose parents were born in India) is sworn in next month he "will become Louisiana's first non-white governor since Reconstruction."

Wait a minute, there Bobalouie. You mean to tell me that a non-White candidate in a Southern state was elected Governor and he was a Republican?

Where's the Time Magazine cover for the "New Face of the Republican Party?"

In Louisiana, the Republican Party has gone from one state-wide office holder to, I believe, five. They have picked up seats in the State House and State Senate. I noted that Louisiana has gone from "Laughingstock to Leadership in American politics in the past four years."

I also pointed out that, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Governor-elect Jindal has "tapped a top aide to Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu to be the new executive director of the Louisiana Recovery Authority, the state agency responsible for guiding hurricane recovery." The name of the top aide? Paul Rainwater.

I said I thought it was mildly amusing that a guy named "Rainwater" would be running the program to fix the problems caused by hurricane flooding.

The crowd didn't think it was nearly as funny as I did.

Republicans in the US House and Senate got fired for malfeasance leading to the Democrats' take-over of both Houses in 2006. Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco's nonfeasance in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita set the stage for the GOP resurgence here in 2007.

According to RealClearPolitics.com, a recent CBS/NY Times poll has Congressional approval at 21 percent - well below President Bush's approval ratings.

Competence counts.

Before Democrats begin measuring for drapes in the White House and Cabinet Department offices, they may want to stop and take another look.

It appears that voters may well be doing that exact thing.

Democrats lose because of losers...
1972 - McGovern
1976 - Carter
1980 - Carter
1984 - Mondale
1988 - Dukakis
1992 - Clinton
1996 - Clinton
2000 - Gore
2004 - Kerry
2008 - Clinton/Obama/Edwards/Dodd/Biden/Gravel (not to mention Pelosi and Reid)

What a losers' Hall of Fame! If the Republican Party would return to, and stay true to, the principles of Reagan, they could bury this pathetic-former-Party-of-FDR/JFK.

Good News for the GOP
is bad news for America. Anything that furthers the fortunes of the two majors is going to be bad for the USA.

The two parties have been totally corrupted by the amount of power they have accured. They have shutout any independent effort, and because of that, they are free to engage in pure partisanship instead of leadership. They have grown government to an unruly huge size, and they have given themselves over to the internationalist agenda.

If we vote the lesser of two evils again, those situations will continue, and America will move further down the road to one world socialism. If you are interested in a greater explanation of how the elites have corrupted our nation's election process. I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place for common sense solutions to the challenges ahead.

Check it out, why not? The elites have stolen our birthright and hijacked the future we are passing along to our children. Isn't it about time we did something other than the same old same old? Thanks, Joe

We Need A National Theme
Voting for ANY Democrat is asking for higher taxes.

Thats a winner. It takes the war to the enemy in their most secure states and districts. If they argue we have 10,000 votes in congress and state legislatures and quotes to prove its true. One simple, understandable, national theme will destroy the Dems-- just like it did in '94.

Good article
I have similar sentiments. I certainly would be happy to vote for Romney or Thompson. I would grudgingly cast a vote for McCain or Guiliani. Huckabee would get my vote simply to block either Hillary or Obama.

I count all 5 Republican leaders as serious upgrades over the 2 best offerings from the Dems.

Rich
This paragraph is dead wrong: "How about this as an alternative theory: ANY of the five will be acceptable to the overwhelming percentage of Republican voters in a race for President against Hillary."

Myself and many others like me will not be voting for another RINO. They have almost gutted the GOP, so why put up with them any longer. As far as I'm concerned, a RINO is only a slight improvement over the cast of Socialists.

Vote for a real Conservative, vote for Fred.

Good News
Well, I will support any of the 5 but The Huck and John are not my faves. As to RINO's, I would agree that we are inundated with them but remember, there are 3 wings to this Party. And no conservative can ever think about the Dems since they are all socialist pacifists. As to good news, the GOP needs 17 House seats to regain power. They will not win the Senate but must keep it close. And with polls showing the Dem Congress at its worst voter approval rates, perhaps the move for CHANGE, will be to the people who cut taxes, appoint good jurists, keep the borders safe and have a strong Commander in Chief (the GOP when at its best), will be that change in 2008.

Safe, secure borders
"Roy Beck at Numbers USA said that Fred Thompson's Illegal Immigration plan "blew him away". He said it will work. But that message is being ignored."

Yeah but 1 of the 5 really stands out
Because of his ENGAGING MENTALITY as opposed to the country club bunker mentality of the status quo. Who really believes that anyone else running will listen to and understand you and me more than Huckabee?

We the people make all the difference!

Pelosi and Reed vs miltary support
It baffles me that these dems were left of the Axis of evil list.

This news isn't surprising
I have heard in numerous Articles that Main Stream America is more Conservative with regard to the issues. If Americans really understood the issues involved and made at least an attempt to understand what the Democratic Party represents, I believe the Democratic Party of today would collapse. This Party has been taking over by the Socialist and Communist that McCarthy fought back in the 50's. McCarthy got a bad rap by Hollywood, who was mostly closeted Communist, and the World and our History has smeared McCarthy's name as a Bigot and Racist and associated McCarthy with a big Negative. What McCarthy was to anyone who really understands our History - McCarthy was a True American Hero, one who believed in the same principles and ideas that our Founders wanted to impress upon a Young Nation.

Giuliani plummets in latest NBC/WSJ poll

MSN-After a month’s worth of mostly negative media reports, his campaign’s decision to decrease his activity in the early nominating states and the rise of GOP rival Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani’s national standing has plummeted in the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, providing more evidence that the contest for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination is wide open.

The best GOP news is
Hillary is finally failing in her inevitability because all the "old news" the press could never bother itself with has finally become very new news.

Hillary plants shills for questions in "open forums," dumps another poor campaign schmuck she sent out to discuess Obama's drug use, and has revealed her detective dirt digging penchant by supposedly revesling how terrible Obama is that in kindergarten he wanted to be pres. ??? What was so awful about that?

I imagine if anyone dug deep enough they'd find a kindergarten Hillary always dreamed of marrying a guy who would publicly humiliate her with "trailer trash" all of their married lives. On the other hand, that's a real reason not to vote her HER.

Obama has not revealed himself as a strong person as a candidate in any way. Curly Locks may now have a pregnant mistress stashed away.

It all looks like good news to me

Bad news for America...
if Bush is vindicated by significant Republican wins next year. It's important he goes out castigated, like his prototypes Nixon and Hoover.

False logic
Show me a poll that says independents want to return to the Repub Party and I'll say the Democratic Party has something to worry about.

Kool-aid
Kool Aid drinking Democrats rely on MSM for their reality. Fortunately for the rest of us, real life doesn't depend on what the meaning of 'is' is.

Republicans are winning elections despite the MSM template that Republicans are one step below Nazis.

Look at the ideas that are part of the Republican debates. The Democrats are all 'Bush bad, me good. I can leap over tall buildings in a single bound'. And the Kool Aiders believe them.

Are you as dumb as the Democrat leaders think you are?

Jindal "non-white?!"
Or do you mean non-Nordic? India's full of Caucasians--some darker than many whites of West Asia, but anthropologically classified in the same major race.

Some will sit home
The GOP got way to moderate for their base. Sat on their hands the last couple of years and let Bush take all the heat. If they dont get together on illegal immigration and finish the damn fence then I for one will stay home. Why bother to vote when there is no difference between them and the socialists. How many years did they have to make the tax cuts permanent? Give me a break!

Go for it Joe!
The only vote wasted is the one not cast!

Phileo it true
Funny thing Reagan was a democrat originally. If either party had another Reagan I'd vote that way. Party loyalty is a joke because the party has no loyalty to its base.

My favorite is Huckabee but
I will cheerfully vote for whoever the concensus Republican candidate is against the Democrat champion.

Who to vote for
We only have two real conservatives in the race, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. The best of the two was Duncan Hunter but the MSM recognized that fact and kept him off the radar, so that leaves Fred as our best hope. As for the others, I will vote for the republican candidate for sure regardless. Staying home is voting for a democrat.
I would much rather have a rino, or for that matter a hippo, alligator, chimpanzee, possum or skunk in office as opposed to a democrat.

Party Loyalty
Loyalty works both ways. My grand parents came from Mexico in 1910 and my parents were born here and were a staunchly Democrat household.

To quote President Reagan: "I did not abandon the Democrat party, the Democrat party abandoned me"

Hello, Joe Solís.....

...1910 was a good year to get out of Mexico.

Congrats to the grandparents and to you. Welcome aboard the TH train.

The Demoncrats have lots of voters......

.....in your local cemetery who would probably jump out of there at the thought their vote is going for a Dim-whit-crat.

Add to that all the illegals who are registered in visits to the home and a lot of minority votes that are brought in the same way.

I don't want to pick on women as individuals, but as a group they tend to vote visa their soap operas for Dim Whits also.

It's a wonder a Repub or any conservative can still get elected.

THE HUCKLEBUCK IS A LIBERAL

.....Except for abortion and gay marriage ...Huckleberry is as Liberal as Hillary ...

.....He believes in man made Global Warming (Kyoto?) ...and he was recently endorsed by the NH NEA who also endorsed Hillary ...

.....McCain, Romney, Giulani and Huckabee are all RINOs, flip/floppers or liars ...

.....McCain supported the Bush Amnesty as did Huckabee and Giulani ...

.....Romney did not support the Constitution of Mass when he allowed judges (in direct violation of the Constitution) to make same sex marriage legal ...

.....There are only two true Conservatives in the race ...Thompson and Hunter .....COLOSSUS

voter fraud
To Onceamarine:
FRAUDULENT VOTING, BEING AN ATTEMPT TO OVERTHROW THE LAWFULLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT, IS TREASON.
Let's start treating these traitors as traitors, and the politicians who help them the same. In PA, those accesories to treason are known as ED RENDELL AND THE DEMOCRAT-PARTY LEGISLATORS.
