Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?


The New York Times accepted a full page ad by the extreme Left-wing organization, MoveOn.org which called General David Petraeus "David Betray Us."

General David Petraeus, PhD testified before the appropriate House and Senate Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees over the past two days and, as expected by anyone who has ever been in the same room with him, bowled them over.

Not everyone, of course, because some Members of the US Senate like Chris Dodd of Connecticut are running for President and therefore were not prepared to listen to a single word Petraeus said.

According to the Hartford Courant, Chris Dodd, who is attempting to break away from (Yikes!) Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel at the bottom of the Democratic Presidential barrel said he had been to Walter Reed Army Hospital where he had visited a wounded soldier:

"The veteran said an hour and a half after the military left, 'things are right back where they were before."

Again, according to Dodd's hometown paper, Dr./ Gen. Petraeus "calmly replied"

"There's 165,000 different views on the ground."

That, I think, is the issue. While my service in Iraq has long since passed its half-life (I was there from November 2003 through May 2004) I remain in contact with enough of the young people I served with to understand their point of view: We fight and defeat these people here and now, or my grand-daughter will be fighting them in Des Moines forty years on.

That wasn't something that they were reciting from some basic training manual; it was the cool, determined position of young men and women - active duty, reserves, and national guard.

Petraeus was such a powerful force that even Carolyn Lochhead wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle:

"Political analysts had predicted for months that Republican congressional support for the war would crumble come fall, as the election season begins in earnest [but] the testimony by Petraeus and Crocker before a joint hearing of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees showing a decline in violence appeared to be a successful plea for more time."

Because of the power of the testimony by Gen. Petraus and US Ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, the Washington Post suggested "by the time President Bush speaks to the nation later this week, September's much-anticipated battle over Iraq policy may be all but over."

According to the analysis by reporters Karen DeYoung and Thomas E. Ricks,

"Judging by the relatively mild congressional reaction in a joint hearing of the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees, Petraeus and Crocker may well succeed this week in deflecting Democratic demands to bring the troops home sooner rather than later."

So, the real question now becomes: How will the Left respond to a Four-Star General who also happens to own a PhD from Princeton who came to Washington from Baghdad and wowed 'em?

If the George Soros/MoveOn.org wing of the Democratic Party has any guts at all it will DEMAND that the major candidates for President renew their pre-testimony positions that Gen. Petraeus is a liar, a betrayer, and nothing more than a shill for the White House or it will deny any aid in the general election.

In reality, MoveOn.org has been nothing more than a series of empty threats to Democrats in the House and Senate. Notwithstanding the group's libelous ad in the New York Times (which, by the way, did not have to accept it), its long-running demands that Democrats bend to its will have been largely ignored.

In spite of their irrational blather in debates and on the stump, serious Democratic candidates - which, by definition does not include (Yikes!) Dennis Kucinich - understand that, in the end, men like Petraeus and Crocker are saving their lives and the lives of their constituents.

You know, as I do, that there are people who want to kill every American in Iraq. And if they succeed in doing that, they will come here and try to kill every American in America.

This is a real war. We will either win, or we will die.

General David Petraeus made that clear to the Members of the House and Senate.

He is truly Pia Pium - a patriot.

If this "war" is really important
Why not fight this war like it really does matter?

Why not have a total beat-down complete and total defeat of the "enemy"? Make them beg for us to accept their surrender.

Be magnificient, be victorious, win this damn thing.

Troop withdrawal? To heck with that.

Lets start the draft immediately and send 2 millions troops there right now, lock down the borders, kill every insurgent, al queda member, criminal, get that country up and going. Make them what we made Germany and Japan, and what England and the EU has made Ireland. That did not happen on the cheap and easy.

What is the truth here? Is there some other point to this military acitivity that has not been disclosed? Are we totally lame? Are we completely incompetent? Are we incapable of success, even though we outspend the entire world in the military, we cannot win even thought there is no army there to fight?

Sure seems that way.

Best case scenario, next 3 years.

Bush get everything he wants, as usual.
Iraq is identical to what it is today, until Bush leaves.
Hillary/Obama/Thompson is forced to withdraw most soldiers from Iraq due to massive economic recession and public outcry.
Short, hot civil war occurs in Iraq.
Iraq imerges in the form of something between Iran and Afganistan.


how about another scenario
Bush is gone in 2008 the next president (whoever) visits Iraq and gets a standing ovation by the Iraq government. Internal squabbling is reduced to approximately the same level as US, UK or Japan. A secular government in Iraq allows freedom of religion. Muslims in surrounding countries see their economy and standard of living much better than theirs and start wanting similar freedoms. Iranians once secular get tired of the Khomeini crowd. Iran changes support for Hezbollah is reduced. Lebanon, Palestinians, Israel reach an accord. Peace is declared. Everybody hold hands! That’s the difference between pessimism and optimism

Lest we forget, the real movers and shakers for change will be the children. A generation matures and then makes their mark on society for say 40 years. So the timeline for your scenario is more than 10 and less than 60 years, (assuming two generations and 10 years to really impact change). It could happen faster, but maybe not. Reference, US Civil War 1861 to 1865 with true freedom and civil rights actually starting in 1963.

Is it worth it? You better believe it!



Theatrical Drama in the Senate...
Galen's description of Senators not listening to Petraeus is exactly the bane of real amateur stage actors/actresses: they're so busy getting ready for their next line, that they aren't paying attention to activities, the action, on the stage.

I can't stand the self-important pinheads who inhabit our congressional halls. Why do such idiots get into office. I really can't think of any U.S. Senator, Democrat or Republican, who isn't a weasel.

Thats why I didnt include a specific timeline. It took decades for the US to really establish itself. As to corruption its not specific to Iraq's we have plenty of our own. As to your statement about the next generation I agree. People expect instant solutions. It rarely happens that way. If tribes fight for 1000 years you cant expect brotherly love in 5. You hope for a truce and the slowly, if they try, they can overcome their history. Look how long the US has been in Europe, Japan, Korea. It takes time and patients. People look at the Iraq government and dont see it coming together. They need only look at their own (US) and see how politics can destroy good intentions.

Sitting here reading I came across Patrick Henry this was from a letter he wrote its just the last paragraph but I believe its as relevent as ever:
Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775.

"It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace-- but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"

How were we so lucky to have these people back then I only wish we had some now.

One of the problems we have in this country is that anyone can vote - lately it doesn't even matter much whether they are actually citizens of the country.

I'd prefer good people stay home. I want people voting who have a vested interest in the success of the country, not in how much they can leach out of it before they croak. But boy, is that a different subject.

Petraeus has done yeoman service in Iraq shortening the lives of civilization-destroying terrorists and insurgents, and then again here, helping to shorten the political life of multicultural relavatism here at home.

There is a reason to change the middle east, and Petraeus is spearheading a strategy that is currently providing enough stability to let the change happen. Break the forces that bind tribalism, a process which requires time, and the central government will become important to the people of Iraq and, then, important to itself. At that point it is possible to consider working to solidify the institutions that promote a peaceful transition of power of elected officials.

If the State Department will stop trying to screw things up, they might just have something useful AND noble to do in a few years. Then perhaps the State Department can attract a few people in it who aren't incompetents being paid political favors.

Strange how these "open minded"
Liberals, even BEFORE he spoke and addressed the congress decided that General Petraeus was basically a liar.

Strange how they seem to have ALL the facts but never cite the first one, only ad hominim attacks and smear campaigns.

Strange how they declare anything Bush does a failure but offer up absoultely nothing that is even remotely verifiable in return.

Strange how all this name calling began "not too unlike spoiled little children" after they "didn't get their way in trying to steal the election of 2000..after the Supreme Court ruled that Florida had not violated any election laws. (one recount was all that was required)..not three, four or whatever until they got the results they wanted.

Strange how anyone who ever studied communism knows that the Communist Manifesto advocated taking over of a nation through insidiousness and divisiveness planted across generations until choas and the like ensures.

Strange how Lenin the father of modern communism advocated calling ones enemies what one is and to tell a lie loud enough and often enough until it becomes the truth.

These open minded liberals have this down pat and all anyone needs to do is to sit and watch the nonesense on any given day and read the lunacy of the posts of many especially when it begins and ends with name calling and innuendo.

Yeah isn't being open minded a wonderful thing.

Times Treachery
The NY Times did a lot more than just accept the anti Petreaus ad from Moveon.org. The times charged moveon.org less than half the going rate for this hit piece. This makes the NY Times co-sponsors of the piece and lot more than just a paid third party conduit for a paid political advertisement. My guess is that a pro administration (or anti abortion) full page ad would have been charged the $160,000 called for by their rate schedule not the $65,000 charged to Moveon.org. No media bias here.

Drawdown on 15 Month Rule not Success
Listening to Petraeus and Crocker this week I heard Al Qaeda this, Al Qaeda that, Al Qaeda will establish terrorist training camps if we leave , Al Qaeda's influence will spread to all the other nations in the region, Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda, and Al Qaeda.

How many Al Qaeda terrorists did they say have been killed or captured since the "SURGE" began? They could not recall!
How many Al Qaeda terrorists did they say are still in Iraq? They do not have a current estimate!
How long did they say will it take to kill or capture the remaining Al Qaeda in Iraq? They will get to Congress in March 2008 with and Estimate!
How long did they say will it take to "WIN" the WAR? We can only see 4 - 6 months into the future and we will not have won by then. We will give you a update in March 2008.
Did General Petraeus say the War in Iraq was making us safer here in the homeland? He said: " I'm not sure it is making America safer."

Note: The estimates of the size of Al Qaeda in Iraq according the Brookings Institution Iraq Index was less than 10 in January 2003, about 3000 in July 2006, and about 5000 in July 2007. The Reuters factbox talley indicates we have killed less than 200 since Jan. 2007.
The size of the Iraq Security Force is over 350,000 and over 200,000 of them can operate with minimal or no US Troop Support.What will they be doing if we draw down to a typical peacekeeping force of 45,000 troops?

What may I ask would you do if the asnwer to how many killed was 200? 2000? 2000000? When will Al Qaeda surrender. How many do we have to kill first? The general is in the best position to make certain determinations. He doesent decide to go to war or end it only to prosecute it to the best of his abilities. Talk about monday morning quarterbacks!

But what should be expected from a party which has done nothing but cry "failed" about a war they voted for, for which they voted and re-voted funds to sustain that war and voted for the nomination for its' general on whom they lauded praise and gave an unnanimous approval.

I posted this on another stream but it bears repeating.


Let me say up front that I thought the Moveon ad was inappropriate and wrong.

One could be able to question the judgement of our leaders military or political leaders. They are not gods. However, it is wrong to accuse them of base motives and implying that they are less than patriotic because their positions differ from mine. This kind of character assassination has gone too far in our political dialogue and I wish it would stop. To suggest that someone who has served nobly in the military and has been decorated for that service is non-patriotic is not being supportive of the troops. I do think, however, we should be able to question their judgements without similarly being accused of being unpatriotic.

However, a large number of the posters here are being disingenuous in their defense of Petraeus when they did not similarly rise up in indignation when Senator Kerry and Max Cleland were similarly maligned.

If a Dem is elected President...
...look for the disbandment of the military.

This is the only conclusion I can come to after seeing that Evil Leftist Moveon.org attack ad on Petraeus and the Dem appeasing responses to it.

Clearly the Evil Leftists Dems don't want anyone defending America anymore from our enemies foreign and domestic.

How corrupt can Hillary get?
She will do anything for her Evil Leftist allies, including denouncing her very own words uttered on the floor of the Senate on Sept. 12, 2001:

I love how Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton want to know the exact date of the pull-out in Iraq. I think Hillary should refrain from using phrases like pull-out, especially with a husband who’s an expert on the subject. And Barack Obama who has about as much experience in anything governmental as Paris Hilton on a three-day drunk trying tell Americans how not to drink and drive, asked questions so absurd he actually made Ted Kennedy appear sober; if that’s possible.



If the questions had been directed at the fired-by Bill Clinton General Wesley Clarke, you can be sure Harry Reid would have been fawning with drool over the bad-tempered liberal who screwed up a Clinton war so bad even Clinton had to ignore the blue-dress whore under the desk to take time out to issue a pink slip to the General the Clinton’s would later go on to endorse as a presidential candidate.



Petreaus is under direct order from Bush and not a liberal democrat, and the past three days of grand-standing do-nothing-but-whine was proof liberals can’t stand any bit of success Bush is having in Iraq. Liberals want Iraq to fail. They want Muslim terrorists to slaughter our troops like pigs. The want Sheryl Crowe sitting atop an enemy tank posing for photos ala’ Jane Fonda. Hell, if they can get Fonda to do a retake of her Hanoi hoopla, liberals would be in propaganda heaven...
