Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Well, isn’t it just like Congress to take the latest fad -- in this case, “global warming” -- and use it to try to usher in yet more government control of your life?

The “Lieberman-Warner” bill (named after its Senate sponsors, Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., and John Warner, R-Va.) is based on unproven “science,” represents massive government intrusion, and oh, yes, it could cripple the economy.

But never mind that. Who cares if the plan severely damages the economy? Who cares if there are staggering job losses and an increase in the price of virtually everything? We must save the planet from the evil empire of capitalism and the looming threat of meltdown!

In the course of placing strict limits on the production of greenhouse gases, the proposed legislation would torch our economy faster than you can melt an iceberg. According to a new study from The Heritage Foundation, Americans would see their incomes drop and employment growth slashed.

Oh, not everything would go down. Energy prices would rise nearly 20 percent from 2012 to 2030.

And all this to possibly gain a tiny change in the earth’s temperature. How tiny? In the words of the Heritage study, “perhaps even smaller than the .07 of a degree Celsius drop in temperature that many scientists expected from worldwide compliance with the Kyoto climate change accords.” That’s worth wrecking our economy and placing yet more regulations on you, your work and your life in general?

Now the crack researchers in Heritage’s Center for Data Analysis have gone one step further: They’ve broken down all the national numbers and shown us exactly how the Lieberman-Warner bill would affect each state. So let’s take a quick trip around the country to view seven sample states and see what we can expect if the bill becomes law. (And if we miss your home state, just go to heritage.org.)

California: Residents of the Golden State would say goodbye to 15,341 non-farm jobs in 2012, the first year the Lieberman-Warner restrictions take effect. By 2025, that number would rise to 62,795. Personal income would decline by $2.6 billion in 2012, and end up with a loss of $13 billion in 2025.

New Jersey:
Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 4,130
Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 16,906
Income lost in 2012: $753 million
Income lost in 2025: $3.6 billion

South Dakota:
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 407
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 1,667
Income lost in 2012: $48 million
Income lost in 2025: $234 million

Massachusetts:
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 3,232
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 13,229
Income lost in 2012: $557 million
Income lost in 2025: $2.7 billion

Illinois:
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 5,928
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 24,264
Income lost in 2012: $918 million
Income lost in 2025: $4.4 billion

Florida:
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 7,379
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 30,202
Income lost in 2012: $1.2 billion
Income lost in 2025: $6 billion

Arizona:
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2012: 2,574
 Non-farm jobs lost in 2025: 10,537
Income lost in 2012: $369 million
Income lost in 2025: $1.7 billion

Lieberman-Warner, by itself, also drives up the price of gasoline. By 2030, not a single state would see pump prices below $5 a gallon. Many would be at $5.50 and above, and one (Alaska) would be above $6.

But that’s just fine, as far as many environmentalists are concerned. They want all of us to pay more -- lots more -- for gasoline. Their theory is that most of us will ditch our cars and start taking buses and subways. Or riding our bikes to work. (Though, as Heritage’s Ben Lieberman has noted, gas prices of $8 a gallon have done little to curb driving in Europe. They just drive miniature cars -- and endure sluggish economies -- to ease the pain.)

There’s nothing wrong with traveling by bus, bike or subway. But should we be forced to make that choice by finger-wagging environmentalists -- in the name of dubious science and all to cool the earth by a tiny fraction of one degree … at best?

The list of ill effects in the Heritage study goes on and on. No state emerges unscathed. The only thing that changes from state to state is the amount of the damage.

And this, mind you, is what would occur under a mild bill. Mild, that is, by the standards of environmentalists who urge even more draconian measures to check the alleged global emergency posed by climate change. Indeed, some environmentalists have been criticizing the Lieberman-Warner bill for not going far enough.

And believe me, if this bill becomes law, they’ll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

The problem, Rebecca,

is that there's no one to stand against this type of legislation anymore.

Clinton, Obama..... and McRINO. ALL of them think government climate legislation is a great idea. They're ALL on the same page; they only argue about minor details.

Bottom line: we're screwed.

not only will they hose our economy
but limiting CO2 emissions can increase the emission of real pollutants.

As usual, liberals try to fix a problem and just end up making it worse while also creating new problems.

Only the Beginning
Believe it or not, this is not the worst problem, but a symptom. We are so dumbed down, a checkout clerk can't count change, and we listen to actors and pols instead of seeing for ourselves.

We surrender so much so easily to such a transparent fraud. The con-men have lots more to sell us.

Misnamed Act
This Lieberman-Warner Act is misnamed ~ it ought to be properly named to reflect the effect of all the wealth transfer it will engender. It should be called The Al Gore Enrichment Act. He's all set up and waiting with his fund to reap the benefits of cap and trade which will see massive wealth transfer from low and middle income Americans to folks such as Al Gore. While the act will probably die this year, should the Democrats win big this November, the act will doubtless be resurrected next year. Woe is us.

Leon I disagree
Rebecca you have indeed named this bill incorrectly in your title. You left out a key feature there as it was originally named. McCain-Lieberman.

McLame has been dealing with the liberals so long he thinks we are like them, forgetting everything earlier than the current day.

AGW Reality Check
There is no possible national "solution" for AGW. If AGW is an issue, it is a global issue; and, it requires aa all inclusive global solution. Anything less is doomed to failure.

Any US attempt to reduce US carbon emissions would be a "tax" on the US economy, even if the federal and state governments didn't "skim" money from the process in the form of a carbon tax or allowance fee, for use in "buying votes".

If AGW is a serious problem, it is time for the serious solutions and the plan to make them happen.

e.

This bill will not pass this year
but it will be back next year and whether McCain or Obama is president, we don't have a president who sees it's folly.

As voters, we need to be loud, very loud, and beat it back with the help of congress whose members will be in fear of being voted out of office. Right now, I am encouraged by comments from many concerned senate democrats.

The last I heard, McConnell had forced an oral reading of all 500 pages of this terrible bill. Maybe, senators will be deterred from a yes vote with real knowledge of what the bill contains.

Green Fascism
"Well, isn’t it just like Congress to take the latest fad -- in this case, “global warming” -- and use it to try to usher in yet more government control of your life?"
That's the motivation behind this to begin with. I garantee you if anthrogenic CO2 induced climate change (ICO2ICC) theory somehow required less government & more freedom & prosperity, we'd never have heard a peep about it after 1988.

"But that’s just fine, as far as many environmentalists are concerned. They want all of us to pay more -- lots more -- for gasoline. Their theory is that most of us will ditch our cars and start taking buses and subways. Or riding our bikes to work. ... There’s nothing wrong with traveling by bus, bike or subway. But should we be forced to make that choice by finger-wagging environmentalists -- in the name of dubious science and all to cool the earth by a tiny fraction of one degree … at best?"

I believe that most "warmies" are actually more motivated by the side-effects & the various restrictions & controls & taxes they could impose in its name, than the compelling nature of the science, aside from those ninnies who actually believe "An Inconvenient Truth."

The elite, obviously, want totalitarian power. Lots of lesser souls simply want other people to drive less, or live within town limits, or live in smaller houses, or eat less meat, or attend public schools, or... Like I always say, there are few leftist big-gov agendas that aren't advanced by ACO2ICC dogma.

This illustrates the basic flaw in modern "environmentalism" that lends it to promoting totalitarianism rather than a clean environment: a total lack of perspective or cost-benefit analysis.

Notwithstanding his Vietnam service, McCain is a traitor now. Ditch him.

No one can predict the future
No one can predict the future. If you read history, it's clear that the climate has changed in the past, and it seems logical that it will change in the futute.

If you study geologic history, it's clear that there have been huge changes in the past. But unless you develop a reliable crystal ball, there is no way at present that anyone can determine what kind of climate we will have in the near or more distant future.

All models of climate change are very imperfect, and it's irrational to make major economic changes based on them.

And as usual these changes would devastate the little guy. The very group the Democrats say they care about and are trying to help.

Environmentalists and Bio Fuel
Just how many environmentalists does it take to make a gallon of bio-fuel????????????

Example of political solutions:
California is mandating buses that are twice as costly to buy and more expensive to run than regular diesel buses. The reason: these new buses emit water vapor instead of CO2.
For those who already don't know it, care to guess what is the number one greenhouse gas, BY FAR, many times greater greenhouse effect than CO2?

Water vapor!

The Sad Truth is :
{Just } suppose I told you that 68 % of our Worlds population want and can't afford to STOP GREEN MAKING HOUSE GASES ...
JUST TO MAKE THIS BILL IN CONGRESS FAR MORE INSANE .
WHAT would you say now learning the truth below ?
Does anyone think that Third world nations Like India , China , Africa ,70 % of South America , N.Korea , Mexico , much of ASIA OR THE MIDDLE EAST WILL STOP doing what ever it takes to survive and grow $$$ as a Nation . The simple answer is hell no .
Our Earths population is 6.4 Billion and that THIRD WORLD NATIONS are 4.6 Billion human beings .
MAYBE AL GORE AND CONGRESS CAN STOP CHINA'S WORSE AIR ON THE PLANET AND KEEP IT IN CHINA .

Cap and Trade
Thi Bill will be back and when it does it will be bigger and badder then ever. When it does though it should be named corectly-
The HOLD and SMOTHER Bill because that is what it will do to our once great Nation.
I agree with the USMC above without India and China ware just p--ing in the wind but with a much greater cost.

We need global warming,
not Gorebull Warring.

The reason that so much of this planet has had drought for so many centuries is that we’ve been in an ice age, and the water needed for normal condensation has been frozen into glaciers. Glaciers are frozen water needed as condensation for barren and frozen lands of this planet, causing drought and flooding. When glaciers melt, some water runs into the oceans. Some water thaws the ground below where the glacier was, and soaks into the ground. Some water evaporates into the upper atmosphere where it becomes normal rainfall for the whole world.

The heat of the sun, and the absence of cold from glaciers and sea ice will cause more water to be evaporated from the oceans, lakes, and rivers into the upper atmosphere than there presently is; and the winds will blow it evenly around the world, providing normal rainfall world-wide, even where there presently is drought, and barren and frozen land, preventing flooding.

The worldwide rainfall will cause long-dormant seeds in barren lands to sprout and grow into new plants: The best way to go green. The new plants will inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, which we breathe. There will be so many new plants, that we might have to increase the amount of carbon dioxide we generate, to provide enough for all of them

A glacier in Greenland is melting, returning the land to the way it was a millennium ago. Larger crop yields are already the result, and the codfish have returned. Put the UN there.

Snow fell before leaves, and a month before winter started. Parts of the country and the world have record low temperatures and record amounts of snow and ice. We’re entering another ice age. How soon will Greenland be frozen again and the codfish gone? We need global warming as soon as possible.

The Green Age
My theory: There is a group of wealthy individuals, leftist's who have never gotten over losing the last election to Bush and the susbsequent hated of him. They used the Goracle to start a Global Warming myth (rumor) and the not so smart left wing in Hollywood took up the mantle and made the Goracle movie, gave him as Oscar, (the Goracle is not a writer, nor a film maker) jumped on the public relation bandwagon and sold it to the brain dead in this country for the purpose of left wing, socialist take over. It started with simply things: florescent light bulbs, the mandates of no smoking, wear helmets, the increasing eminent domain, now gas prices, Obama's - no Suv's - soon we will be a third world country with few freedoms as the illegals cross over our border without health checks, background criminal checks and have their anchor babies! The traitorous politicians on both sides of the isle - all wealthy from ill gotten gains, will remain in power. Until the day that citizens of this country realize what is happening and collectively vote them out - our country is gone! Neither Obama nor McCain will change this - We need to write in a Ron Paul - probably the most honest of all candidates and would restore this country according to our constitution - there is a petition out to the GOP to this effect - at least Paul instead of McAmnesty!

SAVE MANKIND

.....SHOOT AN ENVIRONMENTALIST .....COLOSSUS

Flood McCains phone and e-mail box!!!
We need to protest! We all need to sign the petition "Drill Here, Drill Now" at Americansolutions.com! We need to write and call our Congressmen! We need to do something to stop this massive grab by government!

Question
When was the last time the federal Government passed such legislation so quickly,on a theory? It's not written in stone and compared to the rest of the world how many other countries(people) have swallowed this to be definite fact? Just would like to know. Many people I know aren't sure what global warming is or how it happens, but it is because the news and the government said so.

Productivity
The US produces more output per unit of CO2 than any other country. We are also growing our economy more with less increase in CO2 output than our "cap and trade" European friends. The answer to global warming? Freedom and Liberty. This bill should be called "Cap and Subjugate".

Unexamined Assumptions
Here are some unexamined assumption in Ms Hagelin’s essay:

GLOBAL WARMING IS A “FAD” (rather than a fact attested to by the vast majority of the world’s climate scientists).

WE SHOULD FEAR ANY GOVERNMENT ACTION to meet the challenge because it means “control of your life. (But not a word about the control over our lives effectively exercised over all of our lives by certain neanderthal fossil-fuel purveyors who provide us with high prices and few alternatives.)

IT’S ALL BASED ON “UNPROVEN SCIENCE” (and despite the huge roster of climate scientists, referenced above, you’ll continue to believe what you want to believe, because that’s the rigid “don’t see what I don’t wanna see” conservative way)

IT’S GONNA CRIPPLE THE ECONOMY. (But of course you wouldn’t want to refer to the much greater economic damage of doing nothing, or the tremendous economic opportunities and numerous family-wage jobs that will come with a transition to sustainable energy.)

IT’S ABOUT DESTROYING CAPITALISM (rather than sensible carrots and sticks designed to help forward-thinking energy companies—and encourage neanderthals like Exxon-Mobile to get on board or get out of the way----do what we should have done back in the 1970s, when America reached domestic peak oil”—move us toward a sustainable energy economy that is not dependent on the whims of countries we can’t trust.)

AND JUST LISTEN TO WHAT THIS RIGHT-WING THINK TANK HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT..... (As if we didn’t already know that such institutions use funds from the energy neanderthals top produce reports that underestimate the impact of climate change and overestimate the economic downside of doing something serious about it.)

No global warming since 1998 (1 of 2)
Measurements have shown NO global warming since 1998. In fact, the globe has entered a cooling phase, cooling about 1.1 F per decade since 2001. Find more facts at:

http://www.scienceandpublicpolicy.org

The MSM have been screaming about imminent climate catastrophes for a long time. In the 1920s it was a possible ice age. On September 10th, 1923 Time Magazine reported, “The discoveries of changes in the sun’s heat and the southward advance of glaciers in recent years have given rise to conjectures of the possible advent of a new ice age.” On September 18, 1924 the New York Times chimed in with “MacMillan Reports Signs of New Ice Age”

In the 1930s it was global warming. On March 27th, 1933 the New York Times reported “America in Longest Warm Spell Since 1776; Temperature Line Records a 25-Year Rise.” Time Magazine followed up on January 2nd, 1939 with "Gaffers who claim that winters were harder when they were boys are quite right... weather men have no doubt that the world at least for the time being is growing warmer.”

Continued ...

No global warming since 1998 (2 of 2)
... Continued

In the 1970s it was back to global cooling and another ice age. On June 24th, 1974 Time Magazine reported that “Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.” The New York Times followed up on May 21st, 1975 with “Scientists Ponder Why World’s Climate is Changing; A Major Cooling Widely Considered to Be Inevitable”

On April 9th, 2001 Time Magazine reported that “[S]cientists no longer doubt that global warming is happening, and almost nobody questions the fact that humans are at least partly responsible.“ The New York Times followed up on December. 27th, 2005 - “Past Hot Times Hold Few Reasons to Relax About New Warming”

Even our Federal Government bureaucrats gets in on the act. Around 1970 NASA 'scientist' James Hanson was screaming to us about the imminent ice age. That's the same NASA 'scientist' James Hanson who is now warning about the present global warming catastrophe.

Can you spell C-Y-C-L-I-C-A-L? Why are the New York Times, Time Magazine and NASA 'scientist' James Hanson given any credibility at all?

Lieberman-Warner
You don't have to vote for McCain: we now have
the option to vote for Bob Barr, the Libertarian
candidate. As the clueless RINOs keep lurching
left, the more sensible Libertarians look.
We will bring back our liberties, our Constitution, and our status as free citizens
rather than subjects or, under Lieberman-
Warner, medieval serfs.

Why this bill will come back
Those "environmentalists" backing these global warming bills are not tree hugging hippies. Unless you include General Electric and Alcoa in that group. The tree huggers could never advance such a boondoggle this far. That is why Obama and McCain (who introduced a previous version with Leiberman last year), are both four square in favor of it. That is why we need to take the GOP down in November. They keep blocking for the Dems anyway so if they were eliminated, we would have a direct shot at the Dems without being jumped from behind by our own party.
