Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Decent Americans across the country are so disgusted by a culture that doesn’t reflect their values, a society that trashes the family, and a government gone wild, that they often feel helpless and hopeless about the future of our nation. So I think they’ll join me in saying: Thank goodness for Laura Ingraham’s latest book, “Power to the People.”

Loyal listeners of the Laura Ingraham show are addicted to her gutsy take on the issues of the day, making her one of the most powerful people in talk radio (and certainly the most powerful woman). I’m convinced that a key reason people love Laura is because she also gives her audience the courage we need to become powerful forces of our own. Yes, “Power to the People” provides an in-depth look at important issues and arms readers with facts and figures. But it also gives something else -- something often missing from political prose: inspiration to lift your voice and be heard.

Laura uses biblical promises and personal stories to illustrate how God can use us to make a difference. This confident, strong woman doesn’t hold back on sharing pain, humor and her own struggles to show how God can use each of us -- even in the midst of our weakness -- to stand for truth.

On the airwaves, in print and in person, Laura delights in expressing a refreshing bluntness about the absurdities and issues of the day -- a perspective that entertains and informs millions daily. Her radio show is heard on more than 340 stations nationwide, and she’s had several best selling books.

But what makes Laura stand out among media stars -- and what really makes “Power to the People” the must-read book of the year -- is her willingness to, well, “be real” with her audience. She boldly writes about pivotal points in her life, just as she has shared them on the radio. Listeners lived with Laura through her struggle with breast cancer and the cruel effects of chemotherapy. We felt her heartache and confusion from her broken engagement after she was diagnosed with cancer; we've cheered her on when liberals attacked her words and her integrity.

And what we’ve come to learn through all these battles is that Laura will not be broken -- she always emerges as a champion. And then we realize that if Laura can rise above miserable circumstances, victorious to fight another day, then we can too.

So it’s appropriate that “Power to the People” is more than just clever prose (although it is that) – it’s what Laura considers a “call to arms.” As she notes in the introduction:

“The purpose of this book is not just to rile you up (I do that every day on the radio). The goal is to incite you to do your part to protect the country that we love. It is ours to lose. And there are many here and abroad who are more than willing to take it from us.”

Like who, for example? Well, take the politicians who were pushing “comprehensive immigration reform” earlier this year. Despite the fact that it would have given amnesty to millions of illegal aliens -- in this country and breaking the law even as we speak -- politicians on both sides of the aisle campaigned hard for it. My colleagues at The Heritage Foundation, along with Laura and other stalwart conservatives, worked feverishly to keep the American people informed about this massive threat.

It worked. Americans from all across the country voiced their ire in no uncertain terms, and the amnesty-backers had to back down. Which didn’t make them very happy. As Laura notes, “Given how effective conservative talk radio has been in mobilizing the electorate, it is any wonder that politicians and left-wing activists are trying to figure out how to regulate it out of existence?” (Remember that the next time you hear some leftie tout the “Fairness Doctrine,” which -- free-speech concerns aside! -- would force broadcasters to air “both sides” of an issue. Gee, folks, ever heard of letting the market decide?)

Another group more than happy to take our country from us: the purveyors of what Laura calls “our pornified culture.” From foul-mouthed rappers and sleazy fashions to sex-obsessed TV shows and porn-star authors, we’ve become awash in filth ever since the “sexual revolution” steamrolled the values that helped make this country great. But as Laura reminds us, the tough job of protecting our kids isn’t impossible. As parents, we must take an active role in ensuring that they’re grounded in faith and educated in the classics of Western Civilization. And forget about being uncool, she says: Stand up and make it clear that your home is no place for unfiltered TV viewing and Internet surfing.

Laura covers other topics in “Power to the People,” but you probably get the idea: She informs, takes fearless stances on the issues that really matter and inspires the reader to action. As Laura says:

“Let’s get to work. Time is of the essence. We are up to the task, and we will be stronger for having fought the good fight. And if we remember what our Founding Fathers knew -- that God is with us, and that with Him, everything is possible -- we will never lose heart. We will prevail.”

The problem with Power to the Peepull
is that it very quickly turns into the Marching Mommies -- the international organization of busybodies whose goal is to make the world suitable and safe for unsupervised toddlers, and whose fevered dreams are filled with images of themselves striding the world screaming NO NO! and slapping legal products out of the hands of informed adults. In the name of TheChildren, or Theemostvulnerableamongus (the new name for The Poor), of course, and you are a racist, a bigot, Anti Family and Anti Child if you dare oppose their juggernaut.

Rather than trying to launch another National Crusade to force everybody back to the Fifties, why not simply bring back the words all us fifties kids heard from not only Mama and Daddy, but Auntie, Uncle, Cousin, Brother in Law, Sister in Law, Granny, Grandpa, and all the neighbours on both sides of the street: "NOT IN MY HOUSE YOU DON'T!" My kids are in their twenties now and occasionally their language dips into the port-o-loo, but they still wince every time one of Those Words comes out of their mouths. Both were most impressed by that little scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in which the adult Indy blasphemes and his father slaps him. They had, they admitted, secretly believed that their Mama was the only person in the world who did that.

The People need to hear the words INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY repeated endlessly and no quarter given for failure to understand the meaning of these words.

The Illegal Aliens' Rally Cry
Si se puede (Yes We Can)
Yes we can:
Ignore your laws.
Enter your country any time we feel like it.
Collect benefits to which we are not entitled.
Tell you what your immigration policies should be.
File thousands of lawsuits to prevent you from enforcing your laws.
Vote in your elections fradulently.
Take your country.

Hunter Wins Texas Straw Poll

If we wish to keep our representative Republic, we must elect a President who will secure the borders and enforce the laws. The actions of the next President will determine the fate of this great nation. Texans have been on the front line of this inundation and understand its consequences. They know that Duncan Hunter is the one man who can be trusted to do what needs to be done.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

Laura the whiner
As a committed Republican and libertarian, I must say that I cannot stand Laura Ingraham. When an earlier schedule permitted it, I used to listen to talk radio most of the day in the NY market, from John Gambling to Rush to Sean to Mark Levin, before turning it off during Laura. All she does is whine about the left and preach about her Catholic views.

Is she a political analyst or a religious preacher? There is NOTHING, absolutely nothing, more annoying than a convert (she converted to Catholicism as an adult) babbling on about their newfound faith and love for it.

If she loves Jesus and the Catholic Church and all that, good for her. Keep it to your prayer meetings or a religious program, and out of mainstream politics - unless the topic is specifically religion. She belongs on the 700 Club. She may be loved by the Bible thumpers, but she sure turns a lot of the rest of us off. Rush Limbaugh and others can deliver a strong effective and moral message without being so overtly religious, why can't she?

Taking back the culture
Requires work.

This means working hard to get hired and move up in places of cultural influence, such as the courts, the news media, the film companies, the schools, the school boards, the city councils and the publishing companies, especially the text book companies.

It means that once you are there, you use your power to get other people hired who agree with you, and help them get promoted.

It means forming organizations, or forming groups within existing organizations, whose purpose is to lobby the film companies. Insist on reading the scripts of films that are under production and complain loudly about anything that is against your values, or that bashes conservatives. Be persistant, even obnoxious.

Go to school board meetings, and insist that you and your friends must be permitted to approve, or even determine curriculum.

To to text book companies and complain about the lack of the real meat of history or the unflattering treatments of American heros.

Go to law school and file law suits over any Leftie decisions that step on our First and Second Amendment rights.

Watch American Journal on CSPAN, and clog the lines with the conservative point of view; don't abandon public discourse to the paid toadys of George Soros!

Write letters, make phone calls, show up at City Council meetings and demand that the city stop favoring illegal aliens.

Make pests out of yourselves: this is how the Left grab power.

Make these things family projects.

Laura could gain credibility
Laura could gain much needed credibility if she would not make fun of the most principled conservative in the presidential race, Dr. Ron Paul, or deride his supporters. Ron Paul's whole campaign for the presidency is about life, liberty, freedom, prosperity, individualism, property rights, military strength in defense of our country, free markets, free trade, non-interventionist foreign policy, and limited constitutional government. When these ideals are promoted, family and religious values of love, charity, peace, hope, and faith flourish. Instead, she has been aligning herself with the neo-con views of the welfare/warfare state Republicans who have caused the Republican party to shrink because of their big government/control the masses/world policies. I hope Laura sees this mistake soon and changes her support to Ron Paul's liberty, freedom, and family values positions.

Bring a box of tissues next time, Laura
...to wipe off the drool.

Rush talked about Laura's book today and mentioned how Chris Matthews slobbered over her before he interviewed her saying she's 'one of God's gifts to men'.

Michael Scott couldn't have said it better.

Perseverance...

“Let’s get to work. Time is of the essence. We are up to the task, and we will be stronger for having fought the good fight. And if we remember what our Founding Fathers knew -- that God is with us, and that with Him, everything is possible -- we will never lose heart. We will prevail.”-Laura Ingraham

Yes, Laura we can agree with you here. Perseverance is a good doctrine.

The Founders believed they were advancing the kingdom of God by establishing a free church in a representative republic governed by law. God is accomplishing His plan of redemption. As long as we are with Him, we will prevail.

Non-parents are also people
"Power to the people" is not reserved for families protecting children, for Pete's seek. It is a concept for everyone -- those of us without kids, the elderly, teenagers, the newly married and newly divorced -- everyone, with kid or with no kid.

It is NOT about washing filth off network TV, a grossly limited concept. For Pete's sake, turn off the TV and open a book, volunteer or get involved in your community. Power returned to the American constituency also is about finding ways to demand that our elected officials listen to us. They are supposed to work FOR us, to vote the way WE want them to.

AudiR10 is correct -- it is about individual responsibility, and about individuals and families taking responsibility for themselves -- for their work, their opinions, their behavior -- and not relying on the government to think for them, take care of them, pay their way or pardon their sins. In short -- we have a LOT of work ahead.

Special people
Not unlike Thomas Sowell, Rebecca and Laura are special people and true voices of what is left of the American culture that we once cherished.

Arby
You are right, it's not just about washing filth off the T.V.. It's also about all the adult bookstores moving into small towns in residential areas, It's about judges ruling that it's unconstitutional to stop sexual offenders from living within 1000 ft of a school. It"s about getting some moral values back into our society.
Whats so bad about adult bookstores? there would be nothing wrong if all they sold was books and magazines. In Eastlake Ohio the one on Vine street was closed for public masterbation, drugs and all kinds of illegal behavior. It was about 150 ft from a school bus stop. After the judge agreed with the city to close it, another judge said they had to let them back into the city. Simply disgusting.

Virginia Patriot
knows what he's talking about. We are in the process of totally abdicating our own power to those that we put in office to work for us. They -- or many of them -- forget it the minute they take the oath of office.

If we yell and scream and kick and pitch hissy-fits the way we did in June, and just keep up the pressure, maybe they'll get the message that they work for us. They're not doing a very good job of showing it right now.

The only worthwhile words on this thread
"The People need to hear the words INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY repeated endlessly and no quarter given for failure to understand the meaning of these words."

All the rest is drivel of the most salacious and fraudulent kind.

Scooter
What happens when people have no individual responsibility like the case I stated? It's proven fact that child molesters, sexual preditors, and rapists frequent places like that. If we move on them to drive them out the courts put us in jail. They continue to break the law and basically get away with it.

Scooter
I'm leaving for the night but I'll lookfor your answer in the morning. Have a great nite.

Arby, Frigglesnitz, All
"...finding ways to demand that our elected officials listen to us."

"If we yell and scream...maybe they'll get the message that they work for us."

Conservatives let their voices be heard loud and clear in their objections to the Comprehensive Immigration Bill, and it was scrapped (for now, anyway).

We can use the same tactics to strongly remind Congress that THEY work for US and they had damn well better start doing it. We also pay their salaries and they won't get any votes from us if they continue to ignore the conservative base.

Flooding them with phone calls, emails, private mail and faxes just might wake them up.

I thought that...
"...finding ways to demand that our elected officials listen to us." What's the ballot box there for.

And who is 'us'? Oh, you mean 'You', and the rest of us should be disfranchised if we don't share your views.

And the Good Ol' Days of family values.

> Priests molesting children and being protected by Rome.
> Wives walking into doors, and the culture of silence about it.
> Nixon
> Blacks being beaten for looking at a white woman, "He tripped".
> Corrupt police and politicians working hand-in-hand with the Mafia.
> Uncontrolled sweat-shops.
> Child abuse and community silence.

We all remember those Good Ol' Days.

Power to the people
really means giving power to busybodies like Ingraham and Hagelin to decide on behalf of others what kind of programs they are alowed to consume.

Jesus did not use a bullhorn
and He never marched at the head of a crowd of busybodies shouting POWAH TO THUH PEEPULL. Instead He said *Go and Sin No More.* The classic liberal argument is that this stuff would not exist if there was no call for it. Well, you cannot stop other people from patronizing it, but you can turn it off and explain to your kids and your sisters, cousins and aunts why you did. I have 20 aunts and uncles and 31 first cousins, 15 nieces and nephews all married and they have children. If I can influence them by my example and my arguments, that may well cut a few points off the trashy music, programming and so forth, maybe it can do some good.

But please do not come banging on my door and insisting that I turn off what I am watching because your toddler (who does not live at my house or visit it) might see my teevee through a second story window and be sent straight to Hades thereby...or demand that I put away my model racing cars because there are cigarette ads on them and that same toddler, merely by knowing I have them, may be damned. Despite all the cigarette advertising on all the race cars in the world, people in our family do not smoke. Can you say the same?

Jackshite
You take me wrong friend. I dont want to get rid of the porn. I just want some common sense as to where to put the crap. The new place they put the place is right accross the highway from a day care center. This is common sense? Or perhaps you are one from NY who thought that the joke the mayor made quite a few years ago that rape should be called assault with a friendly weapon. As far as your statement of party affiliation, I've voted conservative probably longer than you've been alive. I just believe some common sense is called for. I don't want to legislate behavior.

Audi
said:

"But please do not come banging on my door and insisting that I turn off what I am watching..."

Should Ingraham and Hagelin decide there would be nothing worth watching.

you know
I saw Laura Ingraham this morning on CNN. She made some very reasonable comments until she finally degenerated into the same old “Democrats bad” line. It struck me as a great irony. She calls for “power to the people” but fails to recognize that those folks with the so called bad values are the people too. She isn’t asking for power to the people, just the ones who think the way she does.

So Mike R.
Do we allow the "people with bad values," the perverts (priests included), child molesters, porn producers, wife beaters, crooked politicians and police, drug dealers, aggressive racists and irate illegal immigrants set policies and make decisions for the "rest" of us who want to live in a decent and safe society? "Power to the people" implies power to those who are not corrupt. I, for one, do not want my grandchildren to have to grow up in a society ruled by "the other people."

I think
many here are missing the premise of the book and personally asttacking Laura. I would bet money none of you read the book.

You all talk the talk but you don't walk the walk. Start by paying attention and quit spending money on the filth in society. And yes you can change behavoir. You change it by speaking out and drumming the low lifes out of society. As long as you keep silent you are complicit and accepting by proxy. Here's an example. We were at a school function and one of my child's friends started in a diatribe laden with swear words. I stopped him cold and told him it was unacceptable. He blushed. Not only has that young man cleaned up his language he as yet to cuss in front of me and at graduation thanked me. I spoke up. I was not complicit.

Eastlake Joe writes:
"It's proven fact that child molestors, sexual predators and rapists frequent places like that . . . They continue to break the law and get away with it."

Confused: Were you referring to adult-video stores or the Catholic church?

Lolo2:
I agree with you completely. However, I think many, not most, believe they ARE "walking the walk" by accepting any and all deviant, filthy, and criminal behavior. "Power to the people" seems to imply that behaving and accepting bad behavior is what makes a "powerful" person. Stepping up and condemning it will invoke the wrath of the pc crowed in today's society. I don't believe the "power wannabes" fully understand that they are outnumbered by people who still want to live in a society where the majority have standards.

Football fanatic
Does it matter where children are involved? Or for that matter rape?

Don't forget about choice
Free choice is a common theme in our society -- even for those slugs who chose things that we consider prurient. The concept of "power to the people" is broader than eliminating or control adult bookstores, sexual predators on the Internet or the Playboy channel (if it is still in existence on TV).

The larger and more underlying thread DOES strike at the heart of requiring those who are elected to represent us to then: 1) Go to Washington; 2) and TRULY represent us. I, and I believe many like me, have grown weary of electing officials who campaign on A, B and C platforms -- and then arrive in D.C. and just give in to whatever the party wind demands. I'm sick of it.

I heard the other night (on Lou Dobbs I think) about a union in the food preparation industry that is suing the federal government to STOP enforcing immigration laws. Holy Toledo. They want to put an end to raids on places like Swift meat-packing factories which employ illegal aliens -- they claim it disrupts and intimidates the workforce. THIS, to me, is a power-to-the-people issue, because some court is very like to actually rule on their behalf and require that we do CEASE to enforce federal immigration laws. Makes you wonder what the world has come to.

patty
If only it were that simple. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Those elements you listed are found in every group, party and level of society. What I’m referring to is Ingraham’s comments on TV this morning as compared with Hagelin’s opening paragraph. The intent is not to eliminate the deviant and criminal influence on society but rather the Democrat’s influence on society. However so much I may disagree with some of their platform, I still must acknowledge that they were duly elected by the people. That is the inherent trouble when one tries to speak for the people. They almost always leave someone out.

Lolo2: The idea you espouse is laudable depending on how you define “low-life”. Even at its most acceptable level, that can be a daunting task since it’s never been accomplished before in the history.

ad hominum ad nauseum
football fanatic
Did you make your comment to add to the conversation or were simply trolling to try and silence or denigrate one side of it? Failure to live up to a moral standard does not mean the standard is not worthy of living up to.

Our culture is determined to imprecate what was once considered virtue, for any adherance to a moral standard is offensive to those in violation of it.

You seem offended by what eastlake joe was adhering to.

Take Back America
Where do we need to start taking back America from the Socialists & Communists who masquerade as Liberals & Progressives? The Courts with their Activistism and Life Terms; the Legislative Members in House & Senate who are attacking our First & Second Admendments "DEMONRATS" one and all; Academia, where the Left controls 90% of the liberal indoctrination that is running rampid and unchecked under the disguise of Politcal Correctness, etc.; The MSM, who misrepresent all issues and outright lie to control the flow of information to the masses; Our only hope without a Revolution is at the Ballot Box, and with 49% of the Voters Brain Dead (those who vote Democrat)whom are moving this Country toward Socialism & Oppression, the odds are not looking very good there either. REVOLUTION ANYONE? The Democratic Party needs to purge itself and return to the standards of decency, a lot higher degree of ethics and morals, accountability, and decide that Socialism isn't the answer, if not all that makes America Great will fade away.

Let's All Relax - standard nonsense

We all remember those Good Ol' Days.

First, the ballot box is not the only way, and only a fool would think so.

Second, there is not one iota of even the implication that "us" is anything but those who share a common set of values. Is there some problem with writing a book to communicate in this way? Stop whining, LAR.

Finally, your cute little list of problems in no way indicates that ANYONE wants to reinstitute problems.

If you can't come up with anything better than a series of non sequiturs, leave the posting to the grown-ups.

The Degradation of Our Culture
Today there are two discouraging stories in the news. One of them is a story about a woman (funny how they didn't mention her surname...must be hispanic) who stabbed her son in the back and arms with scissors because he got suspended at school.

He ran to the neighbor's, who called the police. The cops arrived in time to find the mother trying to drive away, leaving her daughter to clean up the blood.

The other horrifying story
is about the USC student, who is being charged with tossing her newborn baby in a trash can to die. This is the third time that she has been brought up on these charges, and though the prosecution has medical evidence that the child had been breathing and was therefore born alive, the girl kept insisting that the baby was stillborn.

The most shocking part is that this is the second newborn she has dumped in the garbage.

It is my suspicion that the reason she is being let off is because of her astonishing beauty. She is one of these angelic-looking blondes whose mother was probably a failed-actress-come-trophy-wife.

My point from these stories is that
the value of life has been rapidly declining in this country, and thanks to the concerted efforts of the media, young women are no longer the last hold out of tender-heartedness and mercy.

How can one toss one's own flesh and blood in the garbage, or plunge the scissors into the back of one's own son?

It is time to aggressively make a return to traditional values, and stand against the infection of the enfluences from the Leftist controlled popular culture.

Mountain Rose
I concur with you on those sentiments. Even though you can't legislate morality you can look out fo the ones who have no voice-- the children and say the handicapped. People who can't stand up for themselves. Are they any less deserving than the others? I would hope our morals have not dropped that far.

Jackshiit
Yeah I forgot you are the one who decides who is what around here. must be a hell of a burden to you.

Jackshiit
You obviously have never had to deal with a mentally handicapped child as you put them in the same boat as a hyper-active kid. What brainless spew. Try 24 years with achild that has no voice and be his voice for all those years and see how society tries to sweep him under the carpet and forget about them. This is the kind of kid that gets molested and you might find out years later when something phisical goes wrong because he can't say MR. so and so did this to me. \God people like you make me sick.

PS
Why don't you take the extra E and I out of your screen name because thats about how much you know about life- Jacksh!t!!!!

“Taking back the culture”

Is it right to seek power over others by covert or overt means? Or is it better to inspire people to follow a better vision?

“Power to the People” does not sound like power over people as you seem to suggest. I have not read the book, but the title speaks of all hands, hearts and minds working together in union, and consensus, working for a vision we all may share.

(Old Testament | Zechariah 4:6)
Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

If we cannot win their hearts and minds to do the right, we have had lost just like the Judaists lose by using force. “A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still.”

If Ron Paul supports all came across as you do, it would be very nice. You are kind and sincere. Only your impression of the Republicans is not accurate.

There is no stability without good conscience, and no strength without strong families and marriage before children. Individualism does not work, but the principle of free choice or free agency does. The spirit of "All for one, and one for all." the Musketeers Motto

The Liberals want big Government, and more taxes for a welfare state not the Republicans, as I understand it.

Ron Paul is a nice person, and so was Peter Pan, but a nation is not lead with ideals alone, but with persons who are leaders who know the potential. Work together with the people and have proven they are able to turn Washington around, so that government is by the people, of the people and for the people. That leaves only two good choices among the Republicans.

I totally agree!

Most liberal minds are like children innocent and naïve, but when they grow up, they become Republicans.

A good Government will rely on consensus obtained from the people, through representatives. We need to grow up to the fact that leading is the hardest work a person can do. The only real reward at the top is the love of serving and being faithful.

Again, the power comes through freedom, freedom comes only as we learn that, “If we cannot tame our nature we will not determine our future.” Self-determination is devastation without personal self-mastery

thats a nice thought but I'm 57 years old and I don't ever remember government by consensus of the people. They ALL make big promises and then do as they please. Thats from the local on up to federal. I get so tired of people saying I"m voting for so and so because he's going to do this or that. They don't know what that man is going to do when he's faced with something that he's worked on all his life possibly going down the tubes. Most of them would sell their soul.

Good morning Joe. It is the same for me at 67 but I still try to encourage the best while I prepare for the worst. Their is no progress in being cynical, and a basher, so as you know it is more fun and positive to believe that a free American people will want better and will be willing to do the right things to achieve it.

Every one of us has their own mind and many times, we do not share the same values. We are, “to fast old and to slow smart.” Well what little I know I want it to go for a very positive cause. “Positive attention gets positive results, Negative attention gets negative results.” In addition, if that it the only thing we learn in life, that leads to a life that keeps getting better and, the power to go something worthwhile.
