Ripping the lid off a secret immigration deal

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I've never been more proud to work at The Heritage Foundation than I was this past Monday.

I was seated at a conference table with 31 of the brightest, most analytical and highly principled people I've ever known as we dissected and analyzed various ripple effects of the Senate’s devastating immigration-reform proposal. After spending an entire weekend digging through a document that had remained secret for so long, Heritage was further scrutinizing it -- and doing what many in the U.S. Senate refused to do: Reveal the truth.

Heritage received the “secret” text -- one that would fundamentally change the American landscape -- around two o’clock in the morning on Saturday. Within hours it was posted online at heritage.org for all to read. The next day, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., mentioned this on the Senate floor:

“For the sake of open deliberation and public education, The Heritage Foundation, which got a copy of the bill somehow, is making this legislation, in draft form, publicly available to encourage widespread debate and discussion. Thank goodness they did make it public … It’s an opportunity, really, for the American people to know what's involved.”

The document had been developed behind closed doors -- away from public scrutiny. It was crafted far from the eyes of ordinary Americans. Once Heritage experts read the drafts, it became painfully clear that our government is considering a measure that would provide amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants and create multiple problems for how we deal with those pouring over the border in the future.

Heritage experts crunched numbers throughout the weekend, weighing the cost both in dollars and in what it would mean to sacrifice the rule of law. We provided analysis through blogging on heritage.org and through columns to sites such as National Review Online, where Heritage constitutional scholar Matthew Spalding built a devastating case for why the measure amounted to amnesty. Again, Heritage did what the Senate failed to do: Inform the public.

But Heritage didn’t stop there. My colleagues continued to scrutinize every line of the bill, researched past proposals, discussed alternative measures, churned out documents on the many problems of the legislation and how to solve them. Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants will eventually make them eligible for welfare, Social Security, Medicare and other government benefits. Senior research fellow Robert Rector gave a preliminary estimate of the cost of amnesty to the taxpayer -- a whopping $400,000 per person over the average lifespan and age of entry for the illegal immigrant. Rector called the bill “a blank check to illegal immigrants written at taxpayer expense.” Again, Heritage did something the Senate refused to do: Think critically.

One of the many tragic results of this bill is that people will begin to flood over the border in numbers yet unseen in this country to register for the probationary period. An illegal immigrant needs only two affidavits (one of which can be from a family member) stating that he or she has been here and illegally working before January of this year. Any alien now in custody for entering the country illegally, or anyone caught crossing the border, will actually be offered the opportunity to fill out the paperwork to be put on the road to the entire package of U.S. benefits. Some 12 million people are estimated to take this first step to becoming a protected member of the United States on some level. They will immediately be able to enjoy free emergency health care, free public education and free welfare programs for children.

Another tragedy is the bogus background check. The federal government has only 24 hours to produce criminal records for probationary applicants before the protection status is granted. Just 24 hours! In many cases, it takes longer than that for a background check when a U.S. citizen is arrested. Suppose three or five or 10 days later, a prior conviction is discovered? Too bad. That person is long gone, with a protection card in hand.

Perhaps this helps explain the secrecy that surrounded this bill -- at least, until Heritage got a hold of it. According to Rector, “Any illegal immigrant during the next two years who enters the country and claims amnesty cannot be arrested, detained or deported. It’s essentially a get-out-of-jail-free card for future illegal immigrants.”

Our discussion around the table kept referring back to a previously written Heritage paper on principles of immigration reform. Government must be founded on core principles. When it isn’t, matters can spiral out of control easily. In demanding that the Senate act on core principles, Heritage did what the Senate has neglected to do in writing the immigration bill: Use principles as a foundation for policy.

“First Principles” is a rally cry often heard at Heritage’s headquarters. We’ll continue insisting on them -- and you can rest assured that we’ll keep you apprised of the latest developments in the immigration debate.

Excellent work, Rebecca
24 hours for a background check, from government employees. Hell, they take coffee breaks longer than that.

One MORE fatal flaw in this abortion of an idea, as if it were needed.

WE Get To Say Who And How Many
Many of our "representatives" seem to be confused as to the exact nature of the "immigration problem".
They tell us it's a "complex issue".

No. This is the simplest, most uncomplex issue I've ever seen.

Too Many Immigrants.
It's that simple.

Good article
and Heritage does a heck of a job.

Just wading thru that gobbledegook... YIKES!

So, what's the catch?
We are now getting deeper and deeper into this conspiracy called "comprehensive" immigration reform. What interests me most of all is the Government insistence on amnesty for illegals, year after year. It would seem to any normal person that American people, armed with The Heritage Foundation facts and analyses, already rejected amnesty on more than one occasion. What's the catch? Did Mr. Bush think that with Democrats in majority he will have an easier task than with Republican Congress? Sounds paradoxical, isn't it? Or, with the fake expression of "cooperation for the good of American people" the bureaucrats of both parties conspired: you give me unconditional military budget, I'll support the Immigration issue? I sense though, that they have missed something there: the American people, for whom the Government is supposed to work; I have a feeling, with every passing year strongly and strongly, that this crop of politicians does not give a damn about American people. So American people have no choice but to call the government action by its proper name: Treason. It does not matter how much sugar have been dispensed in the last couple of weeks by Graham, McCain, Kennedy, Chertoff, Martines, Kyl and others. When all government bureaucrats speak in one voice, it must be a conspiracy. Especially when their voices sound extremely optimistic but people expect a disaster.

The Catch? Mexamerica!
That is the future result of this "immigration reform" bill. Our politicians are trying to sell us a piece of goods that destroy our culture as it is and has been. One more step on the path to turning our country over to the third world. All in the name of multi-culturism. Our own culture must be suppressed in favor of every other culture. Balkanization in its worst. The immigrants coming here now and whom are here are not interested in becoming assimilated. They view gaining legality only as a means to an end. And that end is NOT becoming an American. Most do not even speak English, and those whom only speak spanish do not have to. They are accomodated by everything being spoken, printed and translated into spanish for them.

Our country is headed for destruction. From within!

What is vote buying????
Is it legal or a crime????
Is there a punishment for it????

I guess I should ask Congress for the new definition. But laws are for us. They are above the law. Just ask Kennedy and crew.

If this scamnasty is passed, it will be the end of republicans. But do not fear a third party will be take its place.(LA RAZA) That's a poke in the eye of the dummycrats. They can forget about being in charge of anything forever.Teddy and other commie hate America first ones, will be out of a job.

It's great to hear that your wife is not one of the many who want a "little Tijuana" on every corner in the US. My best friend's wife entered the US illegally, but then went through the long process to become a citizen.
But those are not the norm, as any clear thinking individual can plainly see.

Tried the link. It's free, I'll give you that. It's not totally intuative, but it does work.

I hope you are wrong. But that is why we have the 2nd Amendment, isn't it?

Bush Administration, Dying at the Border

This is from “Skeptical Economist”. This is the one of the best articles I have ever read on economics and illegal immigration.

It is no secret that the Bush administration is failing and failing badly. The woes of the administration are legion, Iraq, immigration, the economy, Katrina, health care, gasoline prices, etc. The impact on public opinion is profound. Bush is well on his way to being one of the least popular presidents in U.S. history. His current popularity rating of 31% may be a high water mark. The twenties and perhaps teens are not that far off. Increasingly he has lost, not just liberals and mainstream Americans, but conservatives as well. The key question is why? Why has this once promising administration gone downhill so far and so fast? Is it just bad luck or is their a deeper force at work? In my view, the ideology and practice of Open Borders has condemned this president to complete failure. Could the Bush administration turn itself around by changing its stance on immigration? Yes, but it is exceedingly unlikely to happen. Bush is doomed and may not finish his term in office.

Questions for illegal apologists

Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws? We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the money and power are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. We must keep the volume growing, they still cannot or will not hear us. If they do succeed in getting this through, do not despair. Any act of Congress can be undone by another act of the next Congress. Some may not remember the Catastrophic Health Act that was so disastrous, it was repealed the next term. We must remove from office all those who surrender to the demands of the cheap labor/illegal alien lobby.

Email Congress Staffers
Not sure how it can be more intuitive? ....got any suggestions?

Anyway, staffers come and go quite often and it's difficult to keep it absolutely up to date. Also, there are 15,000 staffers in the database(about 30 per Rep/Senator).

Believe me, it works and as I see it in their replys.

It's another angle for Americans to voice their opinion about Congress' amnesty bill.

Though some staffers say they don't read emails directly from citizens. They do get the emails, they obviously read the subject and they obviously know our opinions on their shamnesty bill.

Keep up the pressure!

amnesty
=RAPE BY GOVERMENT

This is NOT immigration
Illegal aliens are not immigrants. Immigrants seek our permission first by applying for a visa. They keep their documents in order and comply with our laws. Illegal aliens do not. They sneak across the border and acquire fraudulent I.D. among other crimes. The open borders crowd know that most Americans are predisposed to favor legal immigration. By purposely confusing illegal aliens with(legal) immigrants (really the only kind), the left and the media hope to marginalize those of us who are speaking out against amnesty as being xenophobic, nativist, racist, restrictionist, anti-immigrant bigots. I am not any of those. I am an American citizen whose citizenship means something to him. I like immigrants. I know people from all over the world. It is especially for them that I oppose amnesty. I am totally opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens, regardless of where they are from. Americans have always been a welcoming people. We just want people to respect us, our country, our culture, our language and our laws. I am totally opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens, regardless of where they are from. I am for retaining our rule of law and sovereignty. I am against changing our laws to suit those who break them.

I noticed ALL THOSE STAFFERS!!!! What the heck??
It's no wonder our government costs so much. Who needs 30 people to take care of them? Is every member of Congress unable to clean up after him/her self? What's up with that??

Assimilation -- Why?
Yesterday afternoon my wife stopped her car along side two pallets of pavers and a man. Noticing that the neighbor already had the driveway paved, she was curious about where the new pavers would go. The man shook off the question with his shoulders and no with his head. He could not understand ENGLISH. (Yes, my wife is nosey beyond belief.) As long as the "group" of immigrants have someone who can talk for them they will get along without assimilation. Doubters? Just look at the giant enclaves of immigrants in and around Paris, France and you can understand better. Thanks to the Heritage group. REBECCA -- are any members of the Heritage Foundation also members of the Council on Foreign Relations?

John Konop
Now I see why it is one of the best pieces you have ever read!!! Unless you plagiarized it, it is you who wrote it. Mr Wonderful.

Fire,Fire,Fire
The subject of Immigration has arrived at a point, similar to that of hollering "FIRE" in a crowded theater. Now we are talking about secret arrangements in congress, which is crazy!Everything that congress does is a secret, when it is viewed at the level of citizen understanding. This immigration bill is no secret, and it's not in final draft form. Therefore, those who are bright, analytical, and "GOD" only knows what else, are being disingenuous. The President literally made fun of those who oppose "AMNESTY",in his Thursday press conference. The President, rhetorically asked,"HOW DO "US" SEND BACK 12 MILLION PEOPLE?MR. PRESIDENT,I feel your "PAIN",ha,ha,ha....

fed up
this bill is just another piece of the puzzle of what elected officials' real agenda is. I can tell you what is NOT on their agenda, WE (those that work to feed the HUGE pot, WE aren't on their agenda. We are the means that continue to allow them to stick it to us, and do NOTHING about it, so why would they care?

Virginia Patriot

Yep, there's a lot of staffers; you can also see what they make at http://legistorm.com too.

As you see with the bounces, some have left or moved to a different job. But lots of them work. I wrote the application and am not trying to make money off it or anything like that.

With that said, the database has over 15,000 staffers. Of course, I'm not notified when they leave. I try to update it as time allows. It's a time consuming task.

I'm just trying to create ways to allow citizens to get a tiny bit of say in DC. Competing against the HUGE corporate money is very difficult. Maybe if thousands of people flooded them they might think just a bit about what 'we the people' want. I doubt it, but we'll give it a shot anyway.

Pass it on.

ILLOGICAL
MEXAMEDA???
Why would Bushy have the fence built, if we all are goin' to merge???

Heather McDonald: “From 1990 to 2004, Hispanics accounted for 92 percent of the increase in poor people.Half of all children born to Hispanic-Americans in 2005 were born out of wedlock -- a reliable predictor of social pathologies.”

Robert Rector of The Heritage Foundation: “ a low-skilled population will cost the welfare state far more than the immigrants' contributions to the economy and government. He argued that low-skilled immigrants are costly to the welfare state at every point in their life cycle, and are very costly when elderly. Just the 9 million to 10 million illegal adults already here will, if given amnesty, cost an average of $300,000 -- cumulatively, more than $2.5 trillion -- in various entitlements (Social Security, food stamps, Medicaid, housing, etc.) over 30 yrs.

Peter Brimelow, "There is recent evidence that, even after four generations, fewer than 10 percent of Mexicans have post-high school degrees, as opposed to nearly half of non-Mexican-Americans."

Ann Coulter: “Since Teddy Kennedy's 1965 Immigration Act, more than half of all legal immigrants have been unskilled, non-English-speaking Mexicans. America takes in roughly 1 million legal immigrants each year. Only about 30,000 of them have Ph.D.s. Why on earth would any rational immigration policy discriminate against immigrants with Ph.D.s in favor of unskilled, non-English-speaking immigrants?”
1) Security doesn't come first in this bill. the amnesty happens but the enforcement provisions are never enacted.
This bill would immediately legalize illegal aliens that are currently in the country and then it would put in place triggers to be completed in order to get a guest worker program going. The problem with this is that Congress is like a five year old at dinner when it comes to immigration. The only way you can get the kid to eat his green beans is by telling him that he can't eat his ice cream until he's finished -- and the only way Congress will actually see to it that the border security and enforcement provisions in the bill will be implemented is if they have to do them before they even consider an amnesty for the people who are here.
2) Illegal aliens won't have to pay back taxes -- where do we get the same deal? The whole idea that illegals shouldn't have to pay the taxes they already owe for working in the United States is utterly and completely offensive because it actually gives them a privilege that American citizens aren't getting: forgiveness for taxes owed to the IRS.
3) Free legal services, on the taxpayer's dime, for illegal aliens -- where do we get the same deal?:
"The Senate's bill would force taxpayers to foot the bill for many illegal aliens' lawyers. Under current law, illegal aliens are not eligible for federally funded legal services. Section 622(m) of the bill would allow millions of illegal aliens who work in agriculture to receive free legal services. Every illegal alien working in the agricultural sector would have access to an immigration attorney to argue his case through the immigration courts and federal courts of appeals—all at taxpayer expense. This provision alone could cost hundreds of millions of dollars each year."
4) This bill rewards illegal aliens for breaking our laws. As anyone who has a friend or relative who has tried to go through our legal immigration process can tell you, our system is a hopelessly tangled ball of red tape that takes many years, thousands of dollars, and almost countless hours of frustration to maneuver through. That's why we have tens of millions of people who respect our laws and our country, waiting patiently, in line, often in their home countries, to get a chance to come here.
But, what about the people who don't respect our laws or our country and just wandered across the border one day, bought fake documents, and used our schools and hospitals for free? The Senate is giving those people a sweetheart deal.

THANKS HERITAGE FOUNDATION
IT IS REFRESHING TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE TRUTH GETTING OUT. I LOVE OUR PRESIDENT BUT HE APPEARS TO BE MORE OF A GLOBALIST THAN HIS DADDY. WHY HE WILL NOT PROTECT OUR BORDER WHILE HELPING IRAQ IS BEYOND ME. I KNEW WE WERE IN TROUBLE WHEN PEOPLE STARTED TALKING OVER OR AROUND THE WORD ILLEGAL. EVEN CARD CARRYING DEMOCRATS HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THIS BILL IS UTTER NON-SENSE. CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT HAVE BECOME ENTITIES WHO BELIEVE IN PASSING LAWS BUT NOT ENFORCING THEM.
HERITAGE FOUNDATION KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Some people in this column mis-speak. They say immigrants when the mean specifcally "Illegal Immigrants". There is a big difference. Residence is commonly granted to the foreign born spouse of an American citizen. It matters not that the U.S. citizen is black, brown or white nor does it normally matter from what country the spouse originates unless there are extenuating circumstances, ie., some terrorist activities or other important criminal activities or occasionally a problem of desease.

The person you called "out"(cyberpip1) is in all likelyhood referring to illegals. In any case there is considerable "lack of knowledge" about these things, and probably some of us are just giving the entire matter some thought for the first time in a life time. I will give them all credit for caring about the U.S.A. more than many of their neighbors. Some just haven't awakened to the coffee yet. The smell of roasting chili peppers next door.

I have some experience in foreign born wives (could be husbands), and I sympathize with your reaction, however,
a foreigner wed to an American and living in a normal neighborhood adapts much , much better , in most cases, than an illegal, shut off from society
due to his/her illegal activities and surrounded by more of the same.

Some legal immigrants may make the mistake of going into gulags of their own making surrounded day and night by only their own kind. This is not unusual for say, middle easterm people of the moslem faith. It is much more difficult, particularly in this day and age, for them to assimilate as they are more bound by their faith than by the expediancies of daily living.

People from christian backgrounds, ie., roman catholics as found in Latin America or any of the non-roman catholics and protestants usually found in eastern europe or any other non violent faith from anywhere make a much easier transition to become 1stnd or 2nd generation good Americans..

Don't take it to hard if your wife or you are occasionally uncomfortable with what you perceive to be someone elses attitud towards her. She will almost for sure get over it.
It can be especially difficult when he/she is darker skinned and perceives/rationalizes that they aren't up to our standards. I assure you that sooner than later a person with a good attitude will be very much accepted. In point of fact, in much of the south, it is easier to be accepted than many northern areas. People are more relaxed. This has been found over and over again by both foreigners and native American blacks relocating to the south.

Probably.

That pitching tents is the best idea I have heard of for getting some real publicity. Imagine when the police show up, and the reporters-photographers, just could make some news as the arrested would claim illegal immigrant status. H---, you could do that at several locations. Probably better than a march on Washington, huh.

You know that's what the lefties do. Get attention from the press to get people thinking.

Chertoff is a leftist
As info, Chertoff is a leftist... he clerked for Justice Brennan. Teddy Homicide's immigration lawyers wrote this Scamnesty travesty also-- they seek to aid and abet the Reconquista... all of the pro-ILLEGAL apologists have some sort of self-aggrandizing $/power agenda.

Presidente Jorge picked Chortle-off for "Homeland Security" because Jorge is opposed to the idea of it... the open borders/NAU/globalist ILK want an unbridled tsunami of cheap labor and "free" trade-- to be financed on the backs of American taxpayers. As some have noted, funny how we can go over and stir up the Islamics for > $500 Biliion and call it a WOT when we allow them to dance across the border posing as latinos. THIS IS MADNESS, FOLKS!
_______________________________________________

WANT TO GET INVOLVED? It is EASY to let Congress hear your righteous indignation-- see just below.

[pardon a repeat transfer post intended as a reference source for those who just checked in on this CRITICAL ISSUE and want to fight to save America]

Scamnesty: The Ultimate Largesse

Be afraid-- be VERY AFRAID! Congress, pushed relentlessly by the Conpiracy Of Evil, is poised to create a path to Scamnesty for 12-20 million ILLEGAL aliens. With "chain migration," that will mean MANY MORE millions of indigent poor-- and the permanent morphing of America into an entitlement government welfare state. The public trough will become a voracious, inexorable black hole devouring all that has made America great as we morph into a bilingual barrio.

If you listen to the pro-ILLEGAL alien arguments by members of the Conspiracy Of Evil, they are like low-hangin' fruit to refute... let's demythologize a couple of the most unctuous:

1) Disingenuous premises:
The "undocumented workers" are generally hard working, good people who simply want to feed their families and do those jobs that Americans won't do that America must have done... on balance, they give America more than they take... indeed, we MUST have their labors.

Reality Check:
ILLEGALS are too often both poor and undereducated-- a formula for socio-economic DISASTER if they are allowed to naturalize. We are simply allowing corrupt Mexico to dump its welfare problems on America. ILLEGALS drive down wages, and they ARE taking good jobs-- America does not save at all! A relative few hoteliers, contractors, meat processors, and other law-breaking employers milk them for lesser wages, then the TAXPAYERS GET STUCK with the crimes, barrio blight, drugs, gangs, sullied schools, ethnocentricity, and welfare costs. Bilingual education is a scam and an abysmal failure. ILLEGALS are at least 3x as likely as legal residents to be incarcerated for serious crimes:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/3/27/114208.shtml
http://www.theamericanresistance.com/articles/art2004jan04.html
http://www.amren.com/Reports/Hispanics/HispanicsReport.htm

2) We should respect their "rights" and put those who have a job on a path to citizenship and require the payment of back taxes, learning English, and paying a $2,000 fine. They have a right to come here because "our immigration system is broken."

Truth Check--
HOGWASH! We owe them NOTHING! NO THING! It is NOT our immigration system which is broken-- it is the nonfeasance of the national pols to enforce existing laws which has precipitated this crisis. We need to require a tamper-proof I.D. card ASAP for ANY non-citizen to function here period-- to work, get a license, attend school, rent an apt., pass go, etc. They will not really build the wall or otherwise crack down on employers-- the I.D. card radiates the cancer at its starting point. Make ILLEGALS repatriate to apply for it, then vet them thoroughly to see who might come back on an INTERIM basis to work.

There should be NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER between having been here ILLEGALLY and later gaining citizenship. Token fines and back taxes are a farce! Some would charge them a $2,000 fee when their ANNUAL cost to taxpayers (per Heritage) will be $22k just in net govt. services used alone for a family headed by an uneducated, poor ILLEGAL?!?!

Why is this such a vexing problem? Because different powerful users with ulterior agendas salivate over ILLEGALS --> the PC "elite" left sees poor, malleable voters (40 acres and a mule redux) who will assure big entitlement government for the Big Brother elites to control; miscreant employers see cheap labor that the taxpayers are forced to subsidize; the scandal-plagued Catholic Church sees replacement contributors; self-serving national pols see hispanic votes in key states; the well-heeled like their cheap domestic help-- and THEIR children will not have their private schools ruined by them; finally the latino groups quite simply indubitably seek the Reconquista-- the morphing of America into Mexicomerica.

Middle America MUST unite and stop Scamnesty which is again pending in Congress. You can learn more and/or get involved to save America at the sites below. First, an easy way to reach the OFFICIAL contact info for your Senators and Representatives to oppose the pending Scamnesty Bills:

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm

BOOKMARK IT AND BARK AT THEM OFTEN! It IS EASY-- just a few clicks!!!

Some say that it does no good to contact Congress... don't believe it! Middle Americans like you derailed Kennedy-McQuisling Scamnesty in the House last year! Congressman Peter King said he had NEVER seen such a revolt in the heartland in his many years in congress. BUT the Conspiracy Of Evil is determined to cram ILLEGALS down America's throats, so we MUST BE RELENTLESS in expressing our righteous indignation to stop Scamnesty. We won the first battle, but we MUST NOT LOSE THE WAR! Congressional staffers track the feedback... I get letters and e-mails back from Congresspersons who do not even represent me addressing my specific concerns. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Other good sites are below... the first one is GREAT -- a well-organized group trying to save America from myopia... it has prepared e-mails addressing proposed legislation you can customize and/or just send to your elected representatives!:

FOLKS, THE VERY SURVIVAL OF THE AMERICAN HERITAGE, RULE OF LAW, CULTURE, COMMON LANGUAGE, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STABILITY-- INDEED THE AMERICAN WAY IF LIFE ITSELF-- ARE IN DIRE JEOPARDY!

That "cheap" labor is nothing of the sort! Per Heritage, EACH household headed by an undereducated, ILLEGAL alien will cost taxpayers $22k a year in deficit taxes versus services used alone! And that is just the tip of the iceberg of their total costs (crime control, enervated schools, balkanized barrios)! GET INVOLVED TO STOP THE INVASION NOW FOLKS-- BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! AMERICA WOULD BE A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!

Buenos dias, amigos!

GunnyG again
You make sure to have some black and brown citizens in the group. Arrange for a fund ahead of time to bail everybody out, and important, have some of yours taking pictures-films for later release. Makes you think, huh.

The opinion of Congress
has dropped even lower with the immigration bill, not just for the contents but for the secrecy and attempt to ram it through before it has even been read and discussed. Kennedy made the same promises at the time of the last amnesty bill and nothing was carried out except to grant citizenship. Why should we trust him or other politicians now? CLOSE THE BORDERS AND PROVE THEY ARE SECURE then talk to us about what to do about THE ILLEGALS.

onceamarine
I have Hispanic friends who are US citizens and they ask ME WTF are WE gonna do about this mess!?

Kinda takes the wind out of the protestors sails.

I agree with your suggestion to have all groups present as well as taking pics. Nee and I did the GOE counter-protest of the anti-war vermin and the MSM barely published OUR side until the pics started hitting the press with Michelle Malkin gutpunching the leftists with it.

If we are going to drink all of Teddy's Booze, we better start EARLY!

Georgetwin
LOL!

Yeah, I heard that The Swimmer of the Chappaqquiddick has a 10,000 tank of Cutty Sark under his house so that he'll never run out and that the master bathroom has hot and cold running whiskey instead of water!

Looking for help here
Serious question, guys and gals.

Why?

I honestly try to stay abreast of this issue, and I still cannot figure out the "why" of it.

1. WHY does George Bush want this amnesty so badly? How can he be so disconnected from the wishes of the American public? Does he really see it as a good thing to have America as a third world country in the future? Is he so enamored of the North America Alliance (is that the true name?) that he will sell our sovereignty to get it? And, if so, WHY? It's not like he would get to rule it, so WHY? What's in it for him, or for his family?

2. WHY does the Chamber of Commerce (and other big business donors) support this bill? If I am a large buisness, how doe sit benefit me in the future to have the economy dragged down by lowering the wages of the bulk of the public? How does that help my company in the future if my customers cannot afford my product, even if I am producing it for less?

3. WHY does our Congress want this bill to pass? Yes, I understand that some want to "own" the votes of those who will enjoy the social benefits passed out to them by our politicians, but don't they understand that a bankrupt nation can probably afford few benefits? Seriously, isn't that where we are headed? And, if so, WHY don't they see that also? What is the attraction of presiding over a bankrupt nation?

I assume that, like most of us, the folks in Washington have children and grandchildren.
WHY don't they see the risk to their families in this approach to illegal immigration? Don't they see that a poorer, less vibrant America is not a good thing for the future? Yes, okay, they can stay in office a bit longer, but at what cost to the future of this country, which includes their family?

Someone help me to see past the immediate Senate bill to the REAL reasons for this continuing drive to weaken our great country.

WHY?

GunnyG
Are you in GA? I live north of ATL, BTW. I sent both Chambliss and Isakson an email yesterday about this, the scumbags. I got some fluff in return. Figures.

You want to know why???
JohnL-I'll tell you why....Mr Bush is planning a North American Union...That is the one and only explanation for allowing hordes of Mexicans to be allowed to swarm our country. This bill promises to bring even more.
What needs to be brought out of the shadows is the truth of this betrayal without the consent of the American people. I think many of our Senators are aware of this plan as well. Why else would Kyle and Graham embrace a plan that is sure to oust them from office? Well, they know the configurations of this country will soon change. Did you know that the President signed a bill on May 9th giving himself dictatorial powers in the event of an emergency....Guess what emergency is pending? The American people are opposed to his plan. This is the closest thing to a coup this country has ever seen.
And those of you who still love the Mexichurian candidate Bush..(.I voted for him twice , and used to defend his actions.) WISE UP ! NO MORE, I know a traitor when I see one. He is selling out this country . Talk about elitist snobs...these people are talking as though they own this country. Get ready to TAKE IT BACK!!!!

CALL THIS HOTLINE!
This is all from Michelle Malkin's website. It is a SPECIAL HOTLINE TO SENATE OFFICES PAID FOR BY ILLEGAL ADVOCATES- BUT WE CAN USE IT TOO!!!

If you are having trouble getting through the Capitol switchboard to express your opinion about the Bush-Kennedy shamnesty, there's a special hotline number you might like to try.

1-800-882-2005. (Spanish number)
1-800-417-7666. (English number)

Freepers picked up on it this morning. Bryan Preston dialed it earlier today and captured audio of the hotline. He reports:

The hotline is paid for by something called the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and it’s being blasted to pro-open borders groups all over the country. The hotline gives its callers access to their senators that average Joes don’t have.
Here's what the "Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform" is directing its pro-illegal alien activists to do:

Call between 9:00am and 5:00pm Eastern time to have a better chance of connecting with the Senate offices.
When you call, you will hear a recording

1) The system will scan your phone number (or ask you to enter it) to verify your Senators.

2) The system will ask which Senator you would like to be connected to.

3) Before connecting, you will hear a brief message about immigration reform to deliver.

4) After the message, you will be connected to your Senator.

5) After you are done, be sure to call again and connect to your other Senator's office.

Now, you can use it, too:

It's great to hear that your wife is not one of the many who want a "little Tijuana" on every corner in the US. My best friend's wife entered the US illegally, but then went through the long process to become a citizen.

But those are not the norm, as any clear thinking individual can plainly see.

What ridiculous pap! What does your friend's wife's situation, and 'little Tijuana' have to do with my wife? Did I say she was from Mexixo? Did I say she entered illegally?

You claim, "But those are not the norm." Citations, please.

You and cyberpip1 are as idiotic as the many politicians and so-called journalists who define immigrants and illegal aliens as one and the same; even worse, the confation of 'immigrant' and 'Hispanic'.

I find it amazing that people who obviously have access to the internet can't do a little basic research.

It is obvious that you are not a 'clear thinking individual'.

Good work!
Heritage Foundation does yoeman service for the American people (something I can't say for the US Senate).

Left Angle keeps spinning this as if we are trying to deport 12 million illegals in 24 hours. L.A. claims it can't be done, so we must accept the Senate's BOHICA Amnesty Bill.

L.A. is very dense. L.A. just doesn't accept the fact that jail sentence sanctions against employers and tent cities for both employers and illegals will work.

Bush doesn't intend to enforce current laws against illegals, but Bush will be out of office in January 2009. Bush complained yesterday in his press conference that "the government" hadn't enforced the laws. Who's in charge of the government?

That's why we need a law & order president who WILL enforce federal laws.

me
You go through a lot of Reynold's Wrap in your house, don't you? Look, there is a much simpler and more believable pair of reasons for this bill that do not require a grand conspiracy: money and votes. The Republicans are under pressure from business interests, especially in agri-business, to make it easier to get cheap labor. The Democrats want the votes these people will be casting. It's a political win-win. The American people take it in the shorts again.

Any Yankee fans left???
Just imagine...

One dark night, a couple Mexicans sneak into Yankee stadium. Finding refuge under the rafters, they sleep. The next day, they move among the Yankee's fans looking for some odd jobs for some money.

Soon, 100 trespassers are living under the rafters. Most of the fans don't seem to mind, understanding that the Mexicans are simply looking for some work.

Before long, there are 200 Mexicans living in the stadium. A few people start to complain about the trash. There are also a few minor crimes. A sympathetic press fails to report any of the complaints. Instead, there are numerous stories describing the "benefits" of the trespassers in the local press.

Soon there are a thousand Mexican trespassers living and working around Yankee stadium.

But George Steinbrenner sees the problem clearly. His fans are starting to get restless, and the stadium is starting to change. Gang grafitti springs up almost every night. There are reports of more serious violence. He orders his staff to erect a more secure wall and fence around the stadium. He also hires more security guards. Lastly, he orders his security guards to expel any trespasser that they find.

Unfortunately for Steinbrenner, Commissioner Ted "Give me another one..." Kennedy sees the situation quite differently.

"You can't expel these people," he tells Steinbrenner. "These people are POOR Mexicans just trying to make a living."

"They can make a living outside of Yankee stadium," Steinbrenner scoffs.

"I don't think you understand...I am ordering you to STOP building that wall. I am ordering you to STOP expelling any of these---"

"Trespassers!" Steinbrenner interrupted.

"Hardworkers" Kennedy finished. "In fact, I am ordering you to help these people. They are to have access to your team doctors. They are to have access to your coaches to learn baseball."

"But they don't want to learn baseball. They love SOCCER, dammit."

"Look, I also want you to put them on the payroll. Give them some work around the park."

"What the hell? Are you kidding me?"

But Steinbrenner knew that Kennedy was the Commissioner. Reluctantly, he stopped building the wall. To pay for all the services provided to the trespassers, he cut the pay for all of his employees, including his ballplayers. This raised the ire of the players and their union. Lastly, he raised ticket prices %40.

The Yankee fans were aghast when they discovered that the huge increase in prices was to pay for people who snuck into the park in the middle of the night.

They sent thousands of angry e-mails to Steinbrenner and Kennedy. They made thousands of irate phone calls. With a smile inside, Kennedy simply labeled the Yankee fans as bigots and racists. And the press reported the charge gleefully.

Steinbrenner again called Kennedy. "I have to close the border and get rid of these trespassers. If I don't, we will soon have a million trespassers living in Yankee Stadium."

"George, two things. One, you can't call them trespassers anymore. Even though they broke into the stadium, we passed a resolution calling their illegal entry LEGAL. Don't worry...the fans will come around. If you tell them enough times that illegal is legal, they will soon believe it. Secondly, I don't care if you have 50 or 60 million people living in the rafters. These people are simply good, hardworking. POOR, Mexicans."

Within a couple years, the Yankees were a dismal team. Steinbrenner simply couldn't afford to pay for top players and provide services to hordes of Mexicans. Yankee Stadium was also much different. The once majestic grass in centerfield was a worn out brown, the product of thousand of soccer games. Signs were in Spanish and English. Hot dogs were no longer available, but burritos were. Even the statues in Monument Park seemed to be dirty and depressed.

And the fans...well, they were no longer fanatical. They were simply depressed that the Yankees were no longer the Yankees.

And Teddy Kennedy smiled. He had finally brought the once proud and mighty Yankees to their knees.

Regarding 'Any Yankee fans'
that was superb.

If you don't mind I'll email that to a few(quite a few) staffers using http://www.OutsourceCongress.org/

Waste of Time
I have called and emailed McCain, and called and emailed Kyle, and it is obvious from talking to their offices that their minds are made up and no amount of input from their constituency is going to make a bit of difference...they as much as said so...I got the same story from the Tucson and Phoenix office of Kyle...they have abandoned their voters and don't care a whit about our wishes and needs. This is politics at its ugliest, and we are going to have to live with the fall out, culturally and financially. Bye Bye Republican party! Quelle dommage!

pointguard
That was outstanding.

AZ poll
Someone needs to run a poll of voters who voted in the last AZ Rep Primary. Don't run a poll of adults that includes a bunch of non voting illegals. Sample only actual primary voters (the core of the party).

I bet that McCain is in danger of losing AZ among actual Rep Primary voters. Also ask how these voters feel about Kyl. That will put some heat on Kyl. He will fold if he gets a good excuse. One amendment will peel Kyl off.

Great Article Rebecca

Real "Amnesty"
I want the same special privileges the illegals get: an IRS "get out of jail free" $5K fine instead of paying what I really owe, and a free pass on a few laws I break. I'll settle for 5 years worth of free speeding tickets, because I'm easy.

Maybe all of us legal residents and citizens should be presented with a laundry list of crimes from which we can select those best suited for our "amnesty" needs.

Two from Column A, and one from Column B.

OUR GOVERNMENT IS INEPT

DO THESE CONGRESSPEOPLE THINK WE ARE STUPID? THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO PROVE THEY CAN CONTROL OUR BORDERS OR ANY WILLINGNESS TO ENFORCE LAWS WE ALREADY HAVE. AND NOW THEY WANT US TO THROW CAUTION (AND OUR NATIONAL WELFARE) TO THE WIND AND BELIEVE THEY WILL DO IT NOW??? I GOT SOME SWAMPLAND TO SELL YOU.

IT'S PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE FOR THE TAXPAYER AND WILL RESULT IN HIGHER TAXES...MUCH HIGHER.

IT'S UNAMERICAN AND ANTI-WORKER.

IT'S PATENTLY UNFAIR TO LEGITIMATE IMMIGRANTS.

IT'S DANGEROUS TO NATIONAL SECURITY.

IT'S DANGEROUS TO AMERICAN CITIES WHICH WILL BE OVERWHELMED AND BANKRUPTED.

IT WILL BANKRUPT SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE.

IT WILL LEAD TO MARXIST SOCIALISM.

IT IS SUICIDE FOR THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM WHICH WILL CHANGE AMERICAN CULTURE FOREVER.

AND DID I MENTION IT'S UNENFORCEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW DARE THEY MAKE SUCH SWEEPING CHANGES WITHOUT OUR SUPPORT! DO YOU THINK WE WILL EVER FORGET THE ENEMIES OF OUR NATION WHO VOTED FOR THIS ABOMINATION? I ASSURE YOU WE WON'T...AND THEY CAN START LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB.

SECURE THE BORDERS FIRST AND ENFORCE THE LAWS WE ALREADY HAVE. IF THEY CAN'T ENFORCE THEM, THEY CAN'T ENFORCE NEW ONES EITHER. WHICH WILL MAKE ALL PROBLEMS WORSE.

Joyce
It's not a question of they can't enforce but a question of won't enforce. They aren't willing to enforce these laws or the ones from the past.

If calling and faxing to change
their minds is a waste of time, then we must do something else. If the bill for amnesty goes through and all the ILLEGAL ALIENS are let in we then must vote out all the incumbents who were in office when the bill went through.

ALL of them regardless of how they felt at the time. Every single incumbent should be replaced. Those who take our country away should have their jobs taken away.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT.

pointguard
Your Yankee Stadium analogy is priceless and dead-on. Well done.

Can't Remeber when I was so MAD
I have taken the liberty of removing my name from the bottom of this letter.

Senator Bill Nelson:

I am writing you in the hope that you, unlike Senator Martinez, will realize the utter futility and stupidness of signing on to present legislation as to immigration reform. These are illegals who ARE taking jobs away from U.S. citizens.

I speak very fluent Spanish, and in fact at this moment, am out of the U.S. in Latin America where I have worked a major portion of my career. I have a great deal of sympathy for the Latin American. But that does not negate my responsibility to the U.S.A. and the citizens of this republic.

This entire mess is due to administrations who have not done their sworn duty to us, its citizens, who also pay all the bills and provide campaign money for candidates of our choice, and then work for their election or reelection, and then vote along with our brothers, sisters and neighbors.

This is about them and all of us, black, brown or white, rich and poor, ESPECIALLY the poor. They are the ones being hurt by this INVASION of ILLEGALS.

Sure, I feel sorry for them (the poor illegals) just as Mother Teresa felt for the poor. But she didn't bring the poor to Rome. No, she took Rome to the poor. We have way too many American poor in dead end jobs or no jobs at all. Every time we give AWAY a job to an Illegal we are denying a job to one of ours. These are not immigrants. They are MIGRANTS just as surely as I went to school at the old Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, Florida.

Senator, rare back for a minute and unhook your self from the Senate, from Washington and all that that means. Sit back and put yourself in the shoes of most of your constituents. Ask what the mothers and fathers of Florida or anywhere else in the U.S. want for their children whether they are grown up or not. What about their grandchildren??

Are we forever and ever going to change the U.S. into something it was NOT designed to be by the founding fathers. Did they do so badly for us?? Have all the generations who have gone before us done so badly by us?? I ask you, Senator Nelson, if you will keep this nation great or are you just going to hand it over to people who are only interested in more and more bucks?? I know your mother did not teach you that would be the way to create or keep a great nation founded in God and cared for by all of us.

Senator, every black whether poor or not needs your help on this matter. Blacks are suffering for lack of employment and opportunities. Every brown citizen is in the very same position, and so is every white or red skinned person. I am white. I had very little money when I was young. I am part Indian (native American). I have married and had children with a Latin American wife who I brought to this land of the free and home of the brave.
My two sons with her are Marine Corps veterans as I am and my dad was.

Yes, I understand these and many other things. We Americans by birth or legal naturalization ASK YOU to stop this idiocy. Just talk to your fellow senators and choke this bill, OFF. Do what your fellow citizens want. We do not want this bill by a margin of at least 2 to one, some say three to one. Those are important numbers and those numbers are not going away in the next election. We supported and maybe still do our president on the war. But we do NOT support him on this issue. This is more important than the war. This is the very survival of the U.S. of A. Please use your conscious and protect the U.S. from this runaway monster. Thanks for your support.

Sincerely, and in your debt, if you take the right side on this issue,

Priorities
This was emailed to me by a dear friend. I believe it puts things in perspective: "We need to show more sympathy for these people. They travel miles in the heat, they risk their lives crossing a border, they don't get paid enough wages, they do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do, they live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language, they rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day.

I'm not talking about illegal aliens, I'm talking about our troops. Doesn't it seem strange that the Congress is willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops and are now threatening to defund them? "

We need to restore the government of America, not overthrow it. . . although the process would look the same.

Chertoff says immig bill bows to reality
"Chertoff Says Immigration Bill "Bows to Reality""

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative Republicans working to block a compromise immigration bill risk endorsing a "silent amnesty" by insisting on unfeasible mass deportations, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview published on Thursday.

In remarks to USA Today, Chertoff also criticized liberal immigrant rights advocates, saying they could prolong the anguish of immigrant families by withholding support for legislation that could give them legal status.

Chertoff spoke to the newspaper's editorial board in a preview of a Bush administration media campaign to build support of broad immigration legislation being debated by the U.S. Senate, USA Today said.

The compromise bill brokered between the White House and a bipartisan group of senators ties tough border security and work place enforcement measures to the guest worker program and a plan to legalize an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

The measure has drawn criticism from many quarters and its fate in the Senate is uncertain.

The bill has been criticized for placing new limits on family-based immigration and conservative Republicans oppose the legalization program saying it would reward people who broke U.S. laws.

Chertoff acknowledged there is "a fundamental unfairness" in legislation that permits illegal immigrants to remain in the United States but said trying to force them to leave would be impossible, USA Today reported.

"We are bowing to reality," Chertoff said.

damn Yankees (post mortem)

A disillusioned Steinbrenner stared at the standings. His beloved Yankees, the most feared and respected baseball team in history, had become a mediocre team with a mediocre record. Worse, attendance had fallen way off. Lastly, even though he was charging more and more for tickets, he was losing more and more money.

Fewer fans were willing to pay the increased price, especially to get so very little for their money. Plus, the money doled out to provide "free" services for his new...uhm...residents...continued to plague his fiscal bottom line.

How could he have lost it all so quickly he wondered.

Unfortunately, there was no way he could have seen the behind the scene forces that were conspiring against him.

First of all, there was George Bush, former owner of the Texas Rangers and former friend of the Yankees. Not long ago, Bush struck a secret deal with Vicente Fox, selling him the Texas Rangers for a couple pinatas, an autographed picture of Eva Longoria (he-he!), and a Hillary Clinton Pez dispenser (don't ask!).

Vicente Fox was a very powerful owner, but he had a problem. His team policies were not producing income. He had promised the workers on his team that they would be well compensated as the team improved, but it wasn't working. Meanwhile, he watched with resentment as the Yankees, the team to the north, won pennant after pennant.

He created a devious plan. He sent several workers that he had recently laid-off to Yankee Stadium to live there while he worked to improve the Rangers. He even gave them a map to the stadium complete with instructions on various dangers to avoid on the trek north to the Bronx.

Soon, he was sending hundreds and then thousands of workers to Yankee stadium. Not only did this relieve him of the pressure to compensate his own workers properly as he had promised, it also burdened the Yankees.

He was so proud of his plan that he sought to rename his team the Rio Express Conquistadors (REConquistadors fit rather nicely on the front of the shirts.)

Suddenly, he had sponsors galore. For example, La Raza Coffee bought a huge outfield advertisement that said, "No milk needed...we're La Raza!!"

(By the way, La Raza Coffee sought to pressure Steinbrenner to give them a huge advertisement in Yankee Stadium for half price, but he refused. For a week straight, La Raza protested that Steinbrenner was a racist for not giving them a half priced ad. "George is not a racist. He just doesn't want others to pay for your advertisemnent. And George resents you calling him...I mean me...a racist," Steinbrenner yelled.)

Of course, when Yankees fans and Steinbrenner started to act, Fox knew he had to enlist some powerful friends. "Jorge, how can we stop dis from hapeening?" he asked of Bush.

"Don't worry,mi amigo, I have some powerful business friends and some powerful owners that will help us, including a little diamondback from Arizona, John "Shut the f--- up!" McCain and Teddy "Give me another one" Kennedy. Between these two, I know we can screw the damn Yankees.

continued in a bit...

Chertoff
is a liar. Just the other morning on CNN's Washington Journal, his first comment was, "This is not amnesty".

Both of the parties are out for power alone, not the best interests of the nation. With a complicit media to mouth their propaganda, they have convinced everyone of the myth that they alone are smart enough, wise enough, experienced enough to govern. They expect us to take the the entitlements and pork barrel spending and go home, leave the rest to them.

Just exactly how more times are we going to believe them, how many more chances do they get, how often do we do the same thing again and again expecting different results?

As a candidate for President, I have published my Campaign Platform where I show how we can reclaim the birthright that has been stolen from us by these elites and restore this great nation to the principles of the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people by which we should govern ourselves.

Please visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG, and see for yourself that we have a choice if we trust ourselves, have the faith and the guts to make a different choice. If we elect another Democrat OR Republican in 2008, we will guarantee that the future of this great nation and what we pass on to our children will be one of more big government and declining personal freedom.

This is the time, this is our opportunity, this is the election to reclaim our inheritance. Visit the site and tell me if what I suggest isn't the right thing to do? We must grasp the future now before the elites totally sell out American sovereignty to a socialist, internationalist future from which we might never recover. Think about it.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend all. Thanks, Joe

illigal immigration
it is sad that we have in this country so many with their heads in the sand like left angle. Perhaps if he had the benefit of having a job as a youth rather than being 3rd generation welfare he would have a clue about how great this country really is and how it has been built by those Legal Immigrants who came here for an opportunity not to sponge off of the hard working american citizen.

Betrayal and The Great Objective
The great objective is that Freedom, individual liberties and founding principles be preserved as enumerated in the founding documents, from the Declaration of Independence to the Bill of Rights.

The great betrayal is that the great objective cannot now, be protected from the greed, arrogance and guile, now set against it by both sides, who's objective it is, not to serve the interests of their fellow citizens but the interests of themselves, and those things which now, own their allegiances.

It doesn't matter what color you are or which language you speak. Whether you are male or female, gay or straight. Rich or poor, Jew, Christian, pagan or atheist.

If the great objective is ignored, disused and finally destroyed, for the sake of money or votes and political power, you will have only what the powerful, will you to have. This has always meant, that most will have nothing. Not even free though, nor free will, nor opportunity, only what is allowed at the time, by whomever holds power or favor. The very thing this country was established to stop and prevent.

I am not a bigot, I am an American and we, are betrayed yet again.

You’re not seeing the true hidden agenda
Here’s the plan: Social Security is going bankrupt and the Dems don’t want to take the blame for it. They pass an amnesty to drive SS down even faster and when it crashes the Americans who were robbed will blame the immigrants, not the Dems.

I’m joking, I think…

By the way, if your wife is not from Mexico, and did not originally come here illegally, then your first post that I and others responded to was based on nothing. You posted as if your situation was similar to what this thread is all about. You would make a typical politician.

Sounds like it is time for Arizona to VOTE THE BUMS OUT

Grumpy
Well said.

Jorge and Jimmy
If this abomination of a bill passes, then Jimmy Carter may be right(for once in his life). He called Bush the worst president ever forgetting his own little presidency which has to be ranked with that of James Buchanan who did nothing while the nation slipped closer and closer to civil war.

Report critical of Bush

Report critical of Bush immigration record

Why would President Bush start enforcing immigration laws after a new bill when he is not doing it now?

CNN-WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration arrests under President Bush are “stagnant and unimpressive” despite massive increases in Border Patrol agents and other immigration enforcement measures imposed since 2000, a report found.
Bush promoted border enforcement successes this week while pushing Congress for a comprehensive immigration policy overhaul. But the centrist private group Third Way questioned his record in a study released Thursday. It found that arrests and deportations are down almost 30 percent since the Clinton years.

“The decline in immigration enforcement has been steady, dramatic and long-standing,” said Jim Kessler, the group’s vice president for policy and a co-author of the report. “This may not be the cause of our illegal immigration crisis, but it has certainly contributed to it.”

Why does all the wrong info get spread?
In recent days government sources have leaked classified information about the administration's plans to foment civil unrest in Iran to the New York Times. Government sources have also leaked information about a US strike fleet gathering off the coast of Iran to the Guardian (UK).

But the Heritage Foundation, a private organization, has to spirit a "draft" of a major piece of legislation away from the Congress in order for the people to get a look at what's in it before Congress makes it law.

It seems to me that the Times, the Guardian and the rest of the media should be issued copies of the immigration bill MONTHS before it goes tothe floor for a vote, and the final bill should reflect the reaction and input of the people.

And if anything should remain secret, it should be the covert operations of our intelligence agencies trying to depose a hostile foreign government and the whereabouts, size, strength, and intentions of our navy when it is in hostile waters.

I wonder if those who leaked the classified information about our intelligence operations and our fleet were the same ones who were outraged at the administration over the outing of Valerie Plame. I wonder if they they have any comprehension that the only difference between one and the other is the amount of harm done.

Dear Mr. President and Senators
This "Comprehensive Sellout of the American Citizen" will have consequences you have not even considered, not that you care.

I have been an active civic minded citizen for 47 years. Flying my flag on Flag day, July Fourth, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc. Standing for the national anthem. Serving on juries when requested. Serving on community boards. Voting in every election.

Our Constitutional Republic rests on the premise of consent of the citizens. If you succeed in jamming this amnesty down the throats of the American citizens you will have broken the contract. I will henceforth consider myself just another permanent resident. All of my positive citizenship activities will stop. I will remove the U.S. flags from my home and vehicles. I will ignore whatever laws get in the way of my "having a better life", just like the illegal aliens. I will dodge jury duty. Shade on my taxes any time I can. No more Good Samaratin acts. No more litter patrols. No more volunteering. No more charitable donations. No more USO donations. My son will not serve in your Armed Forces. I will only be looking out for myself, just like the cheap labor importers and hispandering vote whores. God help the U.S.A.

Talk is cheap
I suspect it will take a lot more effort than pontificating on TH to stop the amnesty bill.

Median income dropping

Median income dropping for men, slowing for households
The trade and immigration policy supported by the elites of both parties are destroying working class people. This is why lawmakers will take it on the chin in 08 and beyond the more voters figure out they are being sold out by politicians who are bought off by Multi-national Corporation seeking cheap labor!

MSNBC-The American dream has always held that each generation will enjoy a higher standard of living than the previous one, and that is still true, as measured by household income.

But the generational gains are slowing, and the increased participation of women in the work force is the only thing keeping the dream alive, according to an analysis of Census data released Friday.

A generation ago, American men in their thirties had median annual incomes of about $40,000 compared with men of the same age who now make about $35,000 a year, adjusted for inflation. That’s a 12.5 percent drop between 1974 and 2004, according to the report from the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Economic Mobility Project.

Memo to Congress
This bill is your macaca moment.

PRCS
Correct, your response was to that post as you describe. And since your post did not address what that poster said, it was irrelevant and misleading. And thank you for the name calling.
It is about where I expected your IQ to be.

PRCS
And since you are from So Cal, you obviously don't care about what has happened in that area.
I'm not sure if it's as bad in the San Diego Area, but in LA it is beyond out of control.
Additionally, you didn't say WHEN you lived there. If it was 20 or so years ago, then you wouldn't know about how bad things have gotten there.

beware of the disingenuous drivel

Pollsters typically ask questions with somebody's agenda in mind, or the methodology simply gets inadequate responses... consider, e.g., these follow-up questions:

If you favor some sort of path to citizenship for the 12-20 million currently in America ILLEGALLY, are you comfortable with the fact that most of them are undereducated and poor, such that they will be substantial net users of govt. services at a cost to taxpayers of about $20k PER year per ILLEGAL family unit (Heritage)? Are you comfortable with the fact that the new legislation would forgive the habitual nonpayment of taxes by ILLEGALS while YOU still get no tax amnesty? Are you aware that Z-visas will be given to known gang members if they simply disavow the gang?

Supporting ILLEGAL aliens will be the death knell for Republicans. There is so much disinformation being perpetrated by apologists for ILLEGALS that the disingenuous sophistry is getting piled higher and deeper! When ILLEGALS are allowed to vote, they will break at LEAST 9:1 for the left-- for big entitlement government. The fear of a backlash among native-born latino voters is misdirected-- about half of them in Az. recently approved tough new anti-ILLEGAL alien referenda issues in the state most immediately burdened by them.

This pending Scamnesty travesty legislation is SO EGREGIOUS that Rasmussen's immediate polling suggested it is equally disliked among Dems, Republicans, and Independents-- what does that say prima facie?!?!

Rasmussen's latest poll also notes that 72% of all respondents think that REAL border security/enforcement MUST COME FIRST... only 30% have any material concern about naturalizing ILLEGALS. Consider these recent Rasmussen polls:

http://www.rasmussenresearch.com/2006/May%20Dailies/Immigration%20State-by-State.htm
http://www.rasmussenresearch.com/2006/April%20Dailies/Immigration%20April%207.htm

highlights:
Support for an enforcement first policy on immigration tops the 60% mark in all but one of 33 states polled by Rasmussen Reports over the past month (see State-by-State Immigration Data).

Fifty percent (50%) of Americans say the immigration issue is very important. Another 32% say it is somewhat important.

An earlier survey found that two-thirds of Americans believe it doesn't make sense to debate new immigration laws until we can first control
our borders and enforce existing laws. That same survey found that 40% of Americans favor "forcibly" requiring all 11 million illegal immigrants to leave the United States.

[Rasmussen Reports was the nation's most accurate polling firm during the Presidential election and the only one to project both Bush and Kerry's vote total within half a percentage point of the actual outcome.]

Here also are recent survey results showing that when first told the estimated levels of all foreign-born residents in America, 68% of ALL respondents felt that we should cease ALL immigration period (even legal) until we can prove successful, desirable assimilation:

it's DOA.

The Founders, in their wisdom (thanks, dead white guys!) made the House answerable to the electorate in EVERY election. The Dems took Congress with their southern candidates running strongly against amnesty. No WAY do these guys want to face their constituents next year having passed amnesty, and have one-term careers.

Pelosi told Bush she'd only allow it to move forward if he could guarantee her 60 GOP reps supporting it. Good luck on that.

DOA.

Hope you are right. But we still need to remove all of the senators who voted to keep the amnesty provisions in the bill.

New Deal Is A Snake
This is from the numbers USA website:

New Immigration Deal is a Snake
Family Security Matters : May 21 , 2007 -- by Gabriel Garnica

"This new bill is a snake in the political Garden of Eden, where compromise and half is better than none. The only problem is that our national security and future are not enchiladas or tacos ready to split in half for the sake of convenience." A nation's heroes are not only baptized in the fields of military combat, but also in the halls of political discourse. Let anyone who is truly a hero defending this nation's honor, integrity and future stand now and proclaim that when it comes to what is best for our country's future, there should be and cannot be any compromise, any spin or any surrender of common sense. Heroes do not retreat from opportunity to defend their nation. They do not spin or explain or rationalize. In the halls of political debate as in the fields of military combat, heroes only have one purpose, one mission and one goal, and that is total victory for our nation, its honor and its future.

The immigration deal being tossed around these days is neither carved in the best interest of this nation nor is it designed to protect, respect and plan for its future. Its only purpose is to tempt the timid, coax the cowardly, appease the lazy and inflame the delusional. It offers a way out, an escape clause and an exit ramp for those who prefer the cool safety of compromise and political expediency to the hot kitchen and burning stove of political and national courage and conviction. The heartland of America and true conservatism stands at the ready, eager to meet this challenge to our nation, to our conservative values and to the core values that we hold dear.

Betrayal of a Proud and Rational Past

The history of immigration in this planet teaches us that America is clearly the most generous and most welcoming nation that immigration has ever seen. The history of immigration in this country teaches us that logical, rational and controlled immigration is the lifeblood of a nation rich in cultural diversity and social courage. Our nation has truly been a melting pot where many from many places became one while keeping their unique cultures and contributions. That same history shows that immigration was once built on what potential immigrants brought to the national table, both in skills, in attitude and in personal determination and drive. Living in this great nation should be a privilege and not merely yet another entitlement. It should be a prize earned through the sweat exemplified by conservative values and not the entitlements epitomized by liberal delusions.

Sadly, the history of immigration into this country shows us that legislation has shifted away from that immigration of merit and skill toward an immigration of entitlement, rationalization and distortion. We have moved from a nation where there is a right way to do things toward a country where things and privileges have become a right gained without merit. This distortion of properly earned residency and citizenship has created two classes of immigrants. The first class comes to this nation with every bit as much determination, appreciation and drive as its Ellis Island ancestors. The second class, however, comes in expecting special treatment, preferential policies and double standards favoring them over previous citizens and lawful residents.

Let anyone with doubts do the research. There has never been and there will never be a nation as kind to its immigrants as America has been. There has never been nor will there ever be a nation which promises and offers such opportunity, hopes and dreams to those seeking its lawful citizenship. Appreciation and gratitude, however, are not the language of radical liberals who seek votes and influence through shameless appeasement, twisted human rights and diluted national loyalty. We now have hordes of illegal immigrants arrogantly marching for rights they have not earned. We now have bands of selfish politicians seeking only what benefits their personal interests, agenda and perceived constituency.

No matter how you cut the enchilada, this immigration bill is the latest, greatest and most insidious betrayal of a once rich immigration policy that faced those seeking to become members of this national family with open arms, open eyes, warm hearts and rational minds. Like so much harm that has come before it, this bill demands open arms, closed eyes, naïve hearts and delusional minds.

Logic, Common Sense and Justice Left Long Ago

As Alan Caruba has pointed out in his recent outstanding FSM.org commentary, Mexico's own immigration policy is much stricter, more rational and infinitely less merciful than our own. In fact, if this country had Mexico's immigration policy, liberals in this country and the Mexican government would call our government cruel, inhuman and indifferent to "human and civil rights". America grants citizenship to nearly 200 times more people per year than Mexico does, and Mexico accuses America of being exclusionary, prejudiced and indifferent. Mexico shows clear disdain for anyone seeking entitlement upon entering Mexico, yet it expects unquestioned entitlement to its own when then they enter America illegally.

In fact, Alan points out that during the years 2000-2005, Mexico lost more people to the border than to death. The absurdity of this situation is wrapped in one final, imbecilic ribbon. Let anyone criticize or question such rampant, uncontrolled, mindless immigration and the accusation of racism will surely follow. Paint this ridiculous, runaway illegal immigration train as a human rights express and watch cowards run for the hills seeking cover lest they be branded as beasts standing in the way of humanity.

It makes no sense to reward illegal behavior, yet Peter King and Mitt Romney have argued that this is exactly what this bill does, banking on yet another delusional snake oil claim that people will be willing to follow the letter of a set of laws that they have already mocked. King calls the deal a "sham" and Romney characterizes it as nothing but "amnesty". Rush Limbaugh points out that what we have here is a form of bait and switch. Get the bill through pretending that it has teeth of enforcement knowing full well that once it gets through few will want to be associated with the bites such measures would inflict.

Limbaugh argues that liberals want conservatives to be associated with the bill because it is a win/win for liberals. They get movement on immigration toward their side, debate on issues, which should not even be debated in the first place, and watch as any conservatives who favor the measure suffer loss of support from their base.

Beware Toxic Temptations or Easy Escapes

By now we should all know that political and moral courage demands that one be willing to stand firm for what one believes, no matter the litany of arguments for compromise and expediency. True, one must pick one's battles and be willing to listen on many issues, but one must also know which issues pose no room for compromise, no fallback position and no room for escape.

Our national integrity, sovereignty and security bear no such conveniences. Whether we like it or not, the issue of illegal immigration is far removed from the cool waters of rationalization, expediency and compromise afforded other areas. Only in the delusional, twisted and hypocritical minds of radical liberals can there be any such escapes from responsibility when national security and integrity are involved. After all, why should such people refuse to mock and compromise our nation's integrity at the border when they have no problem doing it in Iraq and elsewhere? Why should they conveniently ignore the arrogant rants of ungrateful and delusional illegal immigrants when they have no problem ignoring similar rants from tyrants, despots and bullies such as Hugo Chavez and others?

Let's face it, this legislation gives liberals much of what they want and waves a tempting escape for conservatives seeking an escape from this hot issue. Our national interest and security cannot be compromised at the point of poison dressed as the potion of political safety.

Conclusion

The present immigration bill being waved as a step in the right direction is nothing but a step in the left direction. It has more to do with political expediency than national loyalty. It dresses amnesty in the robes of delusional enforcement and sells injustice in the form of human rights. It pretends to be the right step for America's interests even as it would further weaken its security, national integrity, sovereignty and future.

This new bill is a snake in the political Garden of Eden, where compromise and half is better than none. The only problem is that our national security and future are not enchiladas or tacos ready to split in half for the sake of convenience.

Please remember that liberals are masters of delusion, experts of disinformation and gurus of street fighting. Let anyone who doubts if this legislation is harmful to our nation simply look at the way Ted Kennedy favors it. I do not know about you, but my best litmus test on what is right for this great nation is to run in the opposite direction than Ted Kennedy is going. After all, if there is one thing that liberals like Teddy know, it is how to make great escapes and leave what matters most behind.

Bottom line
They create a smokescreen about other aspects, promising the moon with no intention of fulfilling the promises.

This time around, we're again promised all these ideas that sound great on paper: beefed up border securidad, toughened employer sanctions, better ID checking, etc.

But what's our experience been? Same promises in 1986, and all we got was the amnesty part. No Prez other than Reagan made the slightest effort to enforce or obey the law's mandates.

October 2006, we got the fence bill. Big brouhaha at its passage and signing ceremony. Only one problem: no enabling legislation was ever passed to fund the sucker. No money.

And that's what we'll see if this thing becomes law. Instant amnesty, no future funding or enforcement.

Forgive my skepticism, but it's based on experience and realism.

Ok, let's see. You responded to the quote "The immigrants coming here now and whom are here are not interested in becoming assimilated."

With: "My wife is a Naturalized U.S. citizen, and she is quite assimilated."

Now since this thread is about Illegal Infiltration, not legal immigration, one can only assume that your inference about your wife was that she was illegal.

You only made the other reference when you were called on it.

As far as whether you are or were from So Cal: You said it best:

"I lived in San Diego, El Cajon and San Ysidro over a six year period "

The last time I checked a map, the cities you mentioned there ARE in So Cal.

So who is the moron?

Again, thank you for your typical Lefty name calling. BTW, if I didn't mention it before, the chances that your IQ is higher than mine is only about .001%.

No, Craig:

The response was to a poster who, like you, made an irrational statement.

My wife is a Naturalized U.S. citizen who came to this country legally, and who will always be an immigrant.

And, little boy, I live in Central California, and am therefore NOT from Southern California. I lived there at one time. Perhaps you should check your map for the general geographic co-ordinates of Central California.

In fact, I'm not originally from California.

Lefty? Me?

Your inferences, assumptions, and conclusions are truly priceless; and they bespeak your limited intelligence.

You are a presumptive twit and a moron, to boot.

PRCS
Perhaps your attitude towards your wife is the problem. After she has met the requirements I wouldn't call her an immigrant, but a citizen. But that is just my opinion.

What a bunch of Twittery

I don't need articulate intellectual craptrap to back me up. All's I gotta do is go to a local BK, watch a big truck with a W04 sticker on it pull in. Watch the illegal hop out ahead of his boss with the order list. Walk in five minutes apart and the illegal turns around and asked what the boss wanted to drink. The boss looked rattled, not wanting to answer and therby admitting he was the boss, but he caved and answered "Pepsi" thinking no one would take note of the utter hypocracy that had just taken place. So how's that wall comin?

news coverage on ILLEGAL aliens

I watched "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" just now... they had this panel to discuss ILLEGAL aliens, etc. --> Ron Brownstein, L.A. Times; Jake Tapper, ABC (SALON.com, NPR); Donna Brazile, 'Crat Srategist; and George Will (RINO).

Brownstein spoke of an "energized minority" which opposes ILLEGAL aliens. OH REALLY?! He noted further that 26 Republican (read: RINO) Senators voted for an amendment this week favoring ILLEGALS-- like they are not bought and paid for by the Conspiracy Of Evil, Ron?!?!

Earlier, the liberal George S. interviewed Senator Bob Menendez and Commerce Sec. Carlos Gutierrez about the pending Scamnesty bill. They accepted as a GIVEN that we should naturalize the 20 million already here-- it was simply a debate on the margin about how many of their myriad relatives to invite in also, since all spouses and children and parents can come regardless! This means that of the 7 people who were discussing what to do about the ILLEGAL alien crisis on the hour-long show, 6 were card-carrying liberals, and George Will is a rich "elite" Beltway insider who only grudgingly has noted that Middle America is DEEPLY concerned about the morphing of America into a third world country.

At NO time WHATSOEVER did ANYONE ackowledge that Middle America has views such as those reflected here:

http://www.cis.org/articles/2006/back906.html
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=20530

It sure is reassuring to know that there is no liberal bias in the MM... that we can count on fair and balanced discussions over Sunday morning coffee-- even as Congress plots to sell out America for cheap labor and votes.

Let's write an immigration bill
I've heard too much whining about this! People saying they're going to do all sorts of things except come up with a solution that I believe red-blooded patriots would support in the 90 percentile range. So here is my rough draft which will also be sent to The Cato Institute, The Heritage Foundation, columnists, talk show hosts and anybody else I can think of. The problem is time is of the essence.
(1) A 2300 mile double fence with a double lane road in between.
(2) Immigrants must be able to read, write and speak English. They must be disease free. They must have a sponsor guranteeing work. No welfare of any kind for five (3) years. A minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent.
(4) The needs of our various industries determines who comes in ie nurses, doctors engineers etc. Human resource managers notify the ICE of needs and then recruit from countries those people with specific skills requisite for the respective industry
(5) Housing occupancy ordinances are to be enforced by the respective state, county, local and municipal jurisdictions with landlords paying huge fines for non-compliance.
(6) All previous bills are to be repealed with the approval of the latest and hopefully final bill.
(7) Automatic citizenship for anchor babys will be terminated for those who have illegally entered or overstayed their visas.

This is just a starter and I hope and trust the bright people out there will finish it.

El Neighboro. Redux
Your Nation and Your Cake, Two Things Your Cannot Havo and Eato.

Watching, reading, listening and getting it consistently wrong. That is what I see in all of your comments and in the main article. Now a lot of you might be farmers, I don't know, I stopped making serious presumptions about who I'm speaking to on the internet since it was founded. So I'll assume a percentage of commentors are or were farmers. As a farmer, you live a spartan life, an honorable yet, not very glamorous lifestyle. You have a cow and a bull and you hire your neighbour to tend the eventual herd. You till the soil and hire your neighbour to help in the harvest season. It was a great system, until the nation decided it was on a mission to feed the world and itself for cheap.
It was then that the farmer had to cut back on wages and the neighbor(s) decided to get higher paying jobs with their skills that are more profitable than migrant farm work. With the added profits the neighbor(s) made more leisure time, more time to appreciate the great nation and it's mission(s).
The farmer however, has now been put in a bind. He needs more cheap labor to do vital work that his expensive machines can't- Enter El Neighboro. El Neighboro is a distant memory for most of us, some might remember him by other names O'McNeighbor, Neighborski, Le Nebairre, Neighborsenburgenhjurgen, Neighborini,etc...
The cake of the argument is immigration. It relates directly to the farmer with the cow and the bull or the seed and the soil. Machines can't do it all and his neighbors won't. They are to busy eating cake, enjoying the nation with cake and candles every year, and whining about Al Nayba and El Neighboro.
The Cake of the Nation is that Al and El aren't typical neighbors, a large percentage go back or send money to their old neighborhoods and make it better their at the expense of the Farmer.
If the Nation can feed the world and there are people willing to work, if the Nation can bring Democracy to the world and there are people willing to fight, where are they? Are they gonna vote to save the world? build a wall? Are they gonna fire up their base with another lengthy disscussion about laws already in the books since the Chinese(Honorable Neighborsan) immigrated here? Did we build a wall along the entire Pacific Coast? Perhaps America could get serious and dig a moat like Isreal plans to do, maybe even throw in a minefield on the Mexican side so the casualties don't mooch off of our welfare system.
The truth about El Neighboro is that he wants to be a good neighbor. He comes here and he likes it. He works very hard and brings another slice of culture to the American Pie. He tells his old neighbors and they come, he teaches them that they are not it their old neighborhood anymore and need to behave.
Al Nayba is kinda weird, he sure likes going to worship some crazy god a lot. How do you function as a culture if all's you do is pray and vote?
In conclusion, the nation can have it's cake but if it wants to eat it, it won't be cheap.

The Betrayal of the Republic
Worst of all, what this bill does is rip away the sacred trust -- the promise given to our own citizens, the reason legal immigration exists and is is over subscribed.

I speak of the American dream based on interclass mobility that a family can better itself and ita members through opportunity, education and hard work.

It takes away the trap door through which upward escape is possible by placing on it six million pairs of boots given preferential treatment.

There is a market clearing price of labor for every job. It is the duty of the business owner to find that market plearing price and adjust his capital investment and revenue forecasts accordingly.

It is the duty of the federal government and the states to align welfare expectations with the reality of the working world.

It is the duty of the family unit to prepare their offspring with a moral code and the backing as each swims into adulthood not just to survive, but as William Faulkner put it "to prevail."

If we do not have these things, we have lost the essence of the Republic and fall into a statist society with stratified classes as they have in Europe.

The role of immigration legislation is to determine the that type and quality of immigrant we need to survive as a Republic.

In 1913 unskilled labor was needed to man the industrial plants of America. Unskilled immigrants were welcome. This is another Century. Immigration is welcome for those jobs which our own can not fill because of the skills involved. It can not be welcomed for jobs which our own unskilled laborers could fill at that marke clearing wage.

Hey if you need a job
Quit gabbing and get one, I know plenty of farmers who'd be glad to hire you. If you feel you are too skilled or better than that, then shut your fat mouth about immigration, for you are the problem, not the immigrants. If you don't like immigration move to North Korea and take your friends, they need more folks like you there.
Hey everyone I have a stupid weblink that says farmers are lying. You have no idea what you are talking about, typical for neocons, so I won't hold it against you.

A Friendly Voice
Liberty, thank you for the post and Ron Paul's speech and Weekly Report. I signed up instantly. It will be one of my treasured spots on the Internet from this time forward. Thank God, that there are still some people with courage left to speak out. Now we need some intelligent to listen to an honest man. Eureka!

All those staffers
Troup: That is called paying off campaign obligations. Large donors, to campaign funds, often suggest that they would like to see a staffer which they recommend, placed on the Senators staff. There are also more personal reasons. I am sure you can figure that one out. Don't staff for Kennedy, unless you can swim well.

When apprehended
Mr. Bill, in Los Angeles, we had a ruling signed by Police Chief Daryl Gates, that would not aLlow any LAPD officer to stop and question a Latino citizen, about his legal/illegal status. That tied their hands and they could not do their job correctly. The LAPD motto, is "to protect and serve. During all that time since the signing, not one of the Police Chiefs have showed enough guts to revoke the policy, another of the wonderful attributes of having a lot of Latinos on your City Council, in the Mayor office, state Senators, state Representatives, and other "cabinet members." That ruling by the way, spread througout America and many men who would love to do their jobs, are barred from doing it. Think of their level of frustration. I used to hear it often. All the important jobs in Los Angeles are being filled with Hispanic names. Gee Whiz, Toto, I don't think that we are in Los Angeles anylonger.
