Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Up until Barack Obama’s victory, much of America – and the rest of the world – was deeply in love with the idea of being in love. The problem with any such relationship is always that, one day, the spell wears off, and you start getting annoyed at little things like your soul mate (in this case, Barack Obama – America’s soul mate) leaving the toilet seat up. Some media people won’t care – they’ll blame George Bush for having used the same bathroom months earlier. Others, like the mainstream media, will fall into Obama’s toilet and splash around like it’s holy water.

Last week, French philosopher Andre Glucksmann lamented in France’s Le Figaro newspaper that Barack Obama’s election victory was already a big letdown, if only because he’s not leftist enough – and with center-right leaders now in France, Germany, Italy and likely soon in the UK, Eurolibs were desperate for a victory, anywhere.

Translated from the article’s original French: “[It was] as if the Messiah had appeared, not in Washington but between Paris and Rome, Berlin and Brussels, as if he extended his conciliatory wing over the planet. We Europeans have blithely erased all asperities of the candidate. He supports the death penalty which we are so proud to have abolished. He does not prohibit the free sale of weapons which seemed to us, up until yesterday, the fateful sign American barbarism and this cowboy mentality which we, refined people of quality, vomit.”

Obama hasn’t even done anything yet – except name a Jewish Chief of Staff, upsetting a bunch of Arabs - and disappointment is already setting in. And the problem with having to do work is that it risks generating even more disappointment.

The Democrats were elected to a congressional majority in 2006, and subsequently proceeded to whittle their approval rating down to almost single digits when it came time to start doing something besides criticizing President Bush. Not that many have noticed this ineptitude recently, because they’ve been distracted by the phenomenon of a black guy running for president.

Obama knows that “doing things” could make him less popular, which is why he wants George Bush to save him the trouble and get a few more “failures” under his belt while still in office – like bail out the auto industry. Bush pinned the tail right back on the donkeys, saying that any new bailout can’t come out of the $700 billion one he orchestrated for the financial industry.

Liberal Democrats, now keen to throw a bone to their auto worker union pals who risk getting sacked, got their comrades into this mess in the first place. That’s often what happens when liberals get down to “work”. Government regulations mandating things like environmental controls as a result of liberal pet-cause lobbying have accounted for 1/3 of US vehicle price increases, according to a study at the University of California, Davis. Another study by the Brookings Institution found that regulatory costs are absorbed by the manufacturers. Meanwhile, foreign auto companies are allowed to slap high tariffs on competing foreign imports. It really isn’t Bush’s mess to fix.

The New York Times knows that it will soon come time for Obama to get things done, and that means there’s more than a fair chance of disappointment. So they’re inoculating their boy, in case he changes his mind about closing Gitmo: “You can’t be a purist and say there’s never any circumstance in which a democratic society can preventively detain someone,” says a Georgetown law professor “who has been a critic of the Bush administration,” in a Times piece.

Obama may find it easier to just get a permission slip from the Democratic congress to keep Gitmo open. No matter how much your liberal friends count on you to be true to your leftist record now, it’s still far more appealing to maintain the liberal default position of “doing nothing” – especially when the alternative isn’t palatable to anyone except radical leftists who have a tenuous relationship with reality.

Imagine Jihad Johnny in the US court system! The soldiers who pulled these suspects over for running while jihading in the Afghan desert can testify to what they saw, and have their procedures and methods from the heat of battle held up against those used to bust potheads in California. The various spook agencies could testify about how they failed to inform the suspects of their right to remain silent before shooting water up their nose for the purpose of extracting information.

When the judge closes his eyes and picks a technicality as the basis for acquittal from a hat, they would be free to roam the streets of America with full access to backpacks, fertilizer and “social networking” www.JihadIsSoRad.com type websites. It would be like springing Charles Manson into a room full of yuppies.

It’s not like they could be deported! As we saw recently when Chinese Muslims at Gitmo were released by the federal court, officials couldn’t find a country that would take them without wanting to kill them. To Obama’s voting base, it would be like sending puppies to slaughter.

Barack Obama is bound to find out that George Bush’s job is a lot easier when you’re not doing it.

If Obama pisses off the French, then
I just might cut him some slack. The French like to talk a big game but when it comes time to do something, they just sit back and do nothing. Unfortunately, Obama and his leftist illuminati cabinet that he's forming will pull plenty of French acts and do nothing when action is called for.

This is one American barbarian
who could give a rats arse what the French think. Waiting gleefully to watch Dear Leader juggle puppies over the gator pit for 4 years.

A line to remember
Barack Obama is bound to find out that George Bush’s job is a lot easier when you’re not doing it.

the shortest novel ever written?
French War Heroes

Wheres the Kaboom?
Remember Martin the Martian standing on Mars whining *Wheres the Kaboom? There was supposed to be a lovely Kaboom!*

Now multiply that by a billion (the population of the world minus those just trying to make a living, those making their own kabooms, and the stock market) and imagine you are King O and you have discovered you are HOLDING the Kaboom and all those people want you to light the fuse?

Hey Obama! Wheres the Kaboom?

AudiR10
Yes, Obama will soon be wondering who stole his Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator....let the comedy begin.

Actually, it's already begun--I read one account of some anti-war group blasting Obama THE DAY AFTER THE ELECTION

Who cares about the French?
When was the last time the French did anything that was worth a damn? When they were testing the MOAB bomb at Eglin AFB in the Florida panhandle fifty French tourists at Disney World surrendered after hearing the blast. I could care less whether the French approve of anything we do. I'm proud of the fact that Bush refused to crawl to them and ask their permission to defend this country after 9/11.

Rachel Marsden: On the other side...
How does the saying go?...politics and leadership is always greener on the other side, as Obama will no doubt find out. Great, vivid article!!

The do nothing administration
My friends are telling me that what O'Biden meant when he said Obambi would be tested by an international crisis and the public would not understand or approve their reaction is that there will be no action. When Israel bombs Iran's nuclear facilities, and the Arabs gather once again to kill Israel, Obambi will be frozen. He won't know what to do after he promised to support Israel but also winked at all of the Islamic terrorists who applauded his victory. I think Obambi wants to be isolationist abroad so he can concentrate on killing capitalism here. Oh, and I agree about the French. They make me vomit. So there.

great article
it wont be long and Obamie will find out that W is not as dumb as everyone thinks. and who cares what the french think. i just like the fries

Where's the Movie Script
Obama is realizing that the script ended November 4, and now he has to truly have a game plan of his own.

This is real life, you will be running the United States of America and W. will tell you, there is no manual for facing Islamic terrorism. Everything you do, will be seen as the wrong decision by a large number of folks and DOING NOTHING gets an equal amount of criticism, and has far worse consequences. Gulp. I almost feel sorry for you O. Maybe "Oliver Stone" will write you a movie script. After all, he's known for some great fictional, historical movies.

French Terror Alerts
Where we have colors: green, yellow, orange and red they have actions. Their scale is:
RUN!
HIDE!
SURRENDER!
COLLABORATE!!

Brought to you by the cheese-eating surrender monkeys of Paris.

-Ray
Soli Deo Gloria!!

Excellent Column
Great column, Miss Marsden, you could be in a tag team with Ann Coulter. I'm sorry to admit it but most of my female acquaintances are politically ignorant so it's really refreshing to find so many female columnists that are up to snuff in 21st Century American politics.

Quite a visual
The image of Keith Olbermann swirling around in Obama's toilet will send me thru the weekend with a chuckle.

Great article
and even better comments.

Also, my favorite variance on the grass is always greener is by Erma Bombeck:
The grass is always greener over the septic tank.
Obama will feel like he's in one soon, if he doesn't already.

VIVA LA OBAMA A LA FRANCOIS
I lived in France in the 1960's, a military wife, when DeGaulle removed France from NATO.
They were so nationalistic and took advantage of the American government then, nothing has changed in 40 years. There was a joke then passed around by the American military guys: "French military rifle for sale, only dropped once".

Obama will have a rude awakening about our allies.

January 20 Not Soon Enough
How I wish January 20 were here today! It would be so refreshing to see Obama take responsibility for turning around the economic meltdown and eflecting the world of terrorists waiting to destroy our country.

funny
It is funny seeing the right criticize Obama, or suggest he is going back on his word before he has had the chance to do either thing.

Obama's early choices have had a theme to them. He has picked people who understand how to get legislation through Congress. That suggests that his goal really is to hit the ground running and to get major legislation passed.

So as a liberal who wants change to go in the liberal direction, I am pretty happy with what Obama has done so far. And I suppose Conservatives have a reason to be unhappy. Not because of an nonsense about him being a radical marxist muslim. But because he appears to be a competent result oriented liberal. Which given our system of government should actually be scarier to the right than a fire-breathing marxist who couldn't get his agenda passed anyway.

Frying the French
If I thought appointing Emanuel was done to intentionally tick off the French Arabs, I'd say it as a "master stroke", but it was just dumb luck.

Now, does anyone know if some of those war surplus French rifles are still available? You know....the brand new, never fired, only dropped once models.

Good article
I agree on all points, especially the fact that the media will continue to blame Bush - and the fact that the Democrats do nothing but whine about Republicans. I'm still so disgusted that Obama could actually be elected, after raising so much money that we don't even know where it all actually came from, and after the most fraudulent election ever. Interesting that the French are still complaining. I know plenty of people, Americans and French, in France who were so elated at Obama being elected. One French friend of mine even wrote to me that "he can't perform miracles, but at least he represents hope". I had to nicely tell her that not for me he doesn't - in fact, just the opposite. November 4, 2008 was a very, very sad day for me, when MLK Jr.'s dream of judging based upon character as opposed to race, that dream died, and my country along with it.

Lon, you must be kidding
You find Obama's choices to be smart? You must be kidding me. His choices have nothing to do with "change", that's for sure! But as an Obama supporter, I guess you don't care that he's already proven that he's full of it...do you?

FRANCE AND PHILADELPHIA:
The quiche eating S-O-B's over in France have a "special" place in our hearts in Philly.

France dedicated a street to death row inmate Mumia Abu Jamal. Jamal in on death row for the execution of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. Jamal has become a cause celeb for the anti-death penalty loonies, he sits on death row, has a website, gets his writings published and mocks the memory of Officer Faulkner.

France also stubbornly refused extradition for convicted Philadelphia murderer Ira Einhorn. For many years Einhorn (convicted of murdering his girlfriend Holly Maddox, stuffing her body in a trunk in his apartment during the hot Philly summer, only to be discovered when the stench became so strong) lived a life of quiet comfort with his wife in France.

After over twenty years of legal attempts to get Einhorn back to Philly for trial and dealing with uncooperative French officials, he was eventually arrested in France and returned to Philly to face justice. Now he's "enjoying" life at Graterford Prison.

Moral of the story is: if you happen to find yourself convicted of murder in Philly, you will have a home and an ally in France.

Gitmo
BHO already has cover for closing Gitmo: John McCain. If he doesn't the MSM will cover for him? Hypocrisy rules.

2nd thoughts
Actually, it might be a good idea if we can trade Obama for Sarkozy.

armchair quarterbacking
Yeah, I'll bet getting sacked for real is going to hurt Obama a lot more than watching from his cushy recliner. Wonder if he's wishing by now that McCain had won?

Lon
"Liberalism", as popularly defined, is merely a glossy term for the adoption of Marxist principles. It's just a matter of semantics that you make the distinction.

Lon says "Obama's early choices have had a theme to them. He has picked people who understand how to get legislation through Congress. That suggests that his goal really is to hit the ground running and to get major legislation passed.

So what "major" legislation do we need passed, Lon?

The Awakening
Mr. Obama is starting to experience the "day after". The fun game for the last eight years has been to second-guess Mr. Bush. Now the new game of second-guessing Mr. Obama can begin. No matter what he does, even when he makes a correct call, he will be hammered by somebody somewhere.

I'll pray that Mr. Obama has an awakening and learns that the real world ouside of Chicago politics is very complicated and cannot be plugged into any one political or philosphical mindset.

America vs. France
It is fascinating and disturbing that American Liberals look to France for ideas. In America, we revolted against the British by throwing tea in the ocean. The French revolted by introducing their nobility to Madame Guillotine. When they ran out of nobles, they turned on any free thinking intellectuals.

Whatever genes are responsible for leadership, bravery, individualism, free thought and self-preservation were thinned out of the French gene pool a few centuries ago. What is left (pun intended) in France is not much with which to be impressed or be taken seriously.

The notion of any American even caring that a Frenchman vomits over the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights is laughable at best. I hope Andre Glucksmann enjoys vomiting on the Muslims who will have no qualms of using guns, bombs or even going back to Madame Guillotine to enforce their laws and culture on France.

Be wary

This whole scenario could very well be a smoke screen to have us think Obama is going in one direction while he is actually going in another.

History shows us that people don't always do what they claim they will do.

Lawyers - I love 'em, but I don't trust them until I've seen them in action.

And we are dealing with a guy who won't show us his college records.

TO "Deornwulf" of GA (reply #2):
MY GOD, MAN, DO I HEAR YOU RIGHT? ARE YOU STATING WORDS THAT ACTUALLY SOUND LIKE COMMON
SENSE? WOW. HOW REFRESHING.....and how utterly
disturbing that when we hear a person like you
using common sense, it is so unusual that it
makes our ears perk up.

Thank you and I hope you will continue using
that same common sense and keep responding to
the idiotic ideals the left is ramming down
the throats of decent Americans.

Enough is enough; we have alot of work to do
in four years; hopefully there will still be
an "America" then....and to hell with the French; they are wimpy poor excuses for entities that breathe air.....a man who won't
defend his wife and family isn't worth a damn -
I am tired of reprobates - people who are worth
absolutely NOTHING.

SURPRISE
Obama is NOT going to change!!!! He's going to vote the same way he did for the few weeks he was in the Senata. "But he said ....." Words are cheap. Welcome to the real world. The campaign, aka Fantasy Land, is over.

The French know two words...
"I surrender".

OBAMA

The French deserve the blame...
If the French hadn't lost to the communists in 1954, American troops would never have been sent to Vietnam, William Ayers would not have started the Weather Underground, and Obama never would have learned Saul Alinsky tactics from him.

Of course, former Bears coach Mike Ditka is also to blame. He turned down an offer to run against Obama for the U.S. Senate, and Ditka would have mopped the floor with the candy-assed leftist.

Then there is Frank Marshall Davis. Had he been able to keep his pants zippered when around Ann Dunham, she wouldn't have gotten pregnant with the messiah and had to blame the child she didn't want on poor Obama Sr. - who promptly high-tailed it back to Kenya after he learned he wasn't the real father.

And let's not forget Hillary, who wasn't smart enough to prevent Obama from busing Chicagoans to Iowa to vote in that early causcus.

Or the media, for asking "What's your favorite flavor ice cream" rather than, "Won't your increase in the capital gains tax destroy jobs?"

And then there's...

Nah, let's just leave the blame with the French.

Jeff
writes, "The French like to talk a big game but when it comes time to do something, they just sit back and do nothing."

According to Glucksmann, the French are refined people of quality!! I guess that is what people of 'quality' do. When the barbarians are at the gate, these refined people have tea and discuss the various attributes that define barbarism before getting their throats slit by a quality sword. Is it any wonder they are held in such high regard by leftists here?

Where do I start?
This is so rich I am torn between commenting on this comment ("... this cowboy mentality which we, refined people of quality, vomit”) or the picture that speaks 1,000 words accompanying it ("Obama eats here"). Ohhhh ... I just can't decide. My brain is whirling too rapidly in the illuminati spin zone. French cuisine, anyone?

I found it STRANGE
That other countries are voting in more conservative Politicians in their countries and taking about lowering Taxes to stimulate their economys and HERE we vote in the MOST LIBERAL TAX and SPEND DEM in history for President and a Congress run-amok with Liberal Dems...sheshhhhhhh...something is VERY WRONG with this picture...God help us all

GREAT ARTICLE
DONT BRING UP CHARLIE MANSON,AYERS MAY ASK BARRY TO LET HIM OUT OF PRISON SO HE CAN BE A COLLEGE PROFESSOR!THEN THE LIBERAL PRESS WOULD MAKE HIM A HERO!WE NEED TO KEEP CHARLEE LOCKED UP!

The love-fest is already showing signs
of ending.

One thing liberals liked about Obama is that he was so "popular" with the people of other nations. They are terrified of other nations "not liking us." Maybe if they like us, they reason, we'll be safer.

But no sooner had the election ended than Obama had his first warnings from the Soviets and the Arabs.

They only wanted Obama in because they thought he would be easier to push around.

Sometimes taking a stand and doing the right thing makes you unpopular. But Obama will be a hateful American just like the rest of us on Jan 21.

BHO's real agenda

Lon says "Obama's early choices have had a theme to them. He has picked people who understand how to get legislation through Congress. That suggests that his goal really is to hit the ground running and to get major legislation passed."
I think the 'major legislation' we will be dealing with is designed to bring America to its knees. Has anyone noticed that he is filling his cabinet with those people who will be dealing mostly with internal issues? We will have our First and Second Amendment rights taken away so fast that folks will be left wondering what happened. Watch how the blithering idiots in Congress rush to pass any and all measures he can dream up to stifle the American way of life. He has been groomed for this position since he got Saudi royal family backing to attend an institution of higher learning. Of course his 'pals' have been terrorists, slumlords, and Marxists, who better to train him? We are being destroyed from the inside out.
The economy is not his main interest, he does not care whether we have jobs or not. He will have his 'kingdom.'

Lisa
"Sometimes taking a stand and doing the right thing makes you unpopular. But Obama will be a hateful American just like the rest of us on Jan 21."

Suits me just fine. Unlike some Americans I've met overseas, I never thought that we should base our foreign policy on the hope that next time we visit Europe maybe the waiters will be nice to us for a change.

Still until pushed off the cliff
After the disappearning act on his website, the leftist illuminati is apparently doing just this- nothing! Seeing how long they can stall until they're pushed into action they can blame on others.

Pity the heartland French
The "French" as you bloggers put it, are under attack by their own version of the Liberal Communist Islamofascist anti French elite factions.
The French people are fighting to retain some sense of national identity amidst the tsunamis of immigrants and Politically Correct intellectuals who want to take over their country. They have brainwashed the kids and the whole infrastructure is starting to collapse. Like the USA 50 years back...riots, anti-nationalist sentiment, the whole works.
Don't say "the French", please. The French people deserve our sympathy. They helped build America. It's not the heartland French who are saying these things, itt's these over civilized idiotic PC liberals who felt the Obamamania over there who are sounding off. Decent French people voted in Sarkozy and many more would have wanted even more conservative leadership. I know, I vist there regularly.

The Messiah
I went to that link on Don's post http://www.colony14.net and found some interesting things. I don't necessarily believe the first part, but some interesting questions do arise from it. The issue about his immigration status as far as I know has been ajudicated. The issues of his associations are now moot since nobody either knows or if they do don't care (that part is scary)if he hung out with Charles Manson.

The part that worries me the most is the fact that he along with Franks, Dodd, Reid, and Pelosi are incharge and they are the ones that put us in this economic meltdown. The rising oil prices exascerbate the credit crisis to the point that when oil/gas prices start falling it doesn't help the economy.

The Europeans are the least of my concerns. I couldn't care less of they love us now or hated us under President Bush. The French especially couldn't defend themselves against a girl scout troupe. If they want to lead the world in these dangerous times go with my blessings. I submit that they will be coming with their tails between their legs begging for us to save them from the Iranians. We have a ten trillion dollar national debt and a five trillion dollar SSi/Medicaid shortage, and we have to find and kill Osama Bin Ladin.

Europe you are so eager to critisize us then take the lead and see if you can do more than sit on the side lines and complain.

So much
for Obama restoring America's reputation in the world community. Giggle.

Good Job, Rachel !!
Your "word pictures" are perfect in this article. You made my day.

ava
in NY is right. Most Americans have never left U.S. soil and their ONLY understanding of the world comes from the same MSM that propped up Obama. It is also a fact that most Americans are unaware that without the French we would still be under British rule. (ever hear of LaFayette?) Further, after our successful Revolution, the French followed suit. I do not believe ANYTHING about so-called America haters as it is presented by the MSM. I find it equally ridiculous that we, as a nation, are accused of wrongs that we are not guilty of compliments of the foreign MSM. Americans need to better research their MSM created biases before jumping to conclusions. As well, we ought not to believe that our way is the best way for other countries that have vastly different religions, cultures, history, and living conditions than we do. Perfect example: Oprah's school in Africa where students have cell phones--- duh!

Hey Audi!!

Someone who can tick off the French and the Arabs even before taking office at least has something going for him!!!

Who cares what the French think?
Jacques Chirac was critical of the US and Pres. Bush, accusing us of being high-handed and and arrogant in our quest for WMDs and led the world community in insisting the UN curtail the efforts of Hans Blix and the inspection team so as to give every chance complete (read exhaust) inspections. Then the French decried every mention of war and accused the US of purposely agitating the Middle East with our tough stance on finding WMDs and our relentless efforts to stop Saddam.

In the next world crisis if BO takes any position other than referee and makes even the slightest move of aggressive response you can bet the French will bad mouth the US again.

But if France had a terrorist attack on their soil like 9/11 the French would have a temper tantrum if the US refused assistance. We would be criticized for lacking empathy and compassion for one of our allies. France might even negotiate underhanded deals with the Saudis to get revenge at the high-handed and arrogant capital of the West. We can't win for losing.

I say, who cares what the French think? BO is bound to tick them off, one way or the other.

Good for the French and Arabs
I think at this point the media should cut George W at least a little slack for not making nice nice with the Franch and Arab population. It is pretty clear that no Amaerican president will make the left in their countries happy. When even their own governments are conservative, they are always dissapointed that our liberals are like their conservatives.

Also a word to the Arabs. Baraks name may sound Arab but his entire life experience is hanging around liberal jewish elites of the Democratic party. You want to sway Obama. Start getting your elites to join. The jews have been there since Roosevelt. (Franklin that is)

obama upsets French etc
My dear Madame. YOU should become our Secretary of State. Hilllllarrry Who? God bless us.

Over seas?
I have never understood why some Americans are so worried about what the foreign countries think of us.Who is always the first to come to the rescue when there is a tradgey? I told my Uncle who was going to vote for Obama that unless he read some of the articles that gave information on who Obama was and what he believed I wasn't going to take him down to vote. After this election and hearing about the survey of Obama voters I honestly think that their should be a test before people can vote. We have another election coming in 2010 and if we know what is good for us and the nation we had better get ourselves organized. I don't want to just get the vote out I want the people to know the truth, which we were not told in this election. The Media, print and TV were in the tank from day one for Obama. If we take one thing away from this last election it should be that we have to go around the media, informtion on the innernet. The Republicans had better wise up and start calling the lies out,Pelosi and her rant in front of Congress, was baised on lies of the 8 failed Bush years. Good heavens, get some back bone, confront them, Duffis Barney, Reid, Pelosi, Walters, Dodd all of them should be brought up to testify as to their part in the failed Fannie and Freddie. Oh I for got Duffis Barneys live in boyfriend should also have to testify.
Years ago a telaevangelist made the statement that if America every failed it would be because of 2 groups of people, at the time I thought he was nuts. Well the last few years we have seen every day how the media and the Democrats are doing their level best to implode America.Stand up and spread the truth, or we are going to be lost.

A True Story!
Early this morning I was out walking along the beach and... and ...

The ocean level was lower ... noteceably lower!

I swear it was!

And... and ...

There was a cloud just out over the horizon that looked exactly like ....

I know you won't believe this but...

the cloud looked exactly like President-elect Obama.

For real, man!

Foreign countries want to whine and
moan about us and how we are such bullies. The moment they have a natural disaster or some crisis situation, they come running to us for help. Obama and his leftist illuminati cabinet should do what's right for America first and worry about how it will be perceived by pathetic wimps like France later.

USPatriot56 - I know (like Sinefeld)
I saw the same cloud here in CO where our elevation is 6200 giving us a closer view into the heavens. I even saw the space shipt. The one that has a bright light indicating the world is about to experience a 'oneness' it has not experienced since the tower of babel. I also heard from my family who live in Asia, Africa and Europe. They saw the same cloud and concurred that the world is finally ONE. In this new world, nobody has to ever worry about judgment (moral or legal) because we are all entitled to the same justice system with equal ability to pay for expert lawyers courtesy of a socialized legal system. In this new world, we won't have to worry about hunger, poverty or racism because we are finally perfected under the leadership of the one true leader who can calm storms and call things that are not as they are. Russia and iran will develop a nuclear plant and use it to provide electricity to the poor populations of the world. The UN will finally develop a legal system not to punish the criminals because non exist, but to offer legal courses and classes to religious men and women who have been taught to kill others in the name of their god. These classes will be subsidized by the USSA federal govt. It's a new day, and it's change we can believe in because hope brought us here and hope will take us home, where we all live in mansions because everyone is entitled to a beach home in malibu. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning, yipeee!!!!

Douglas - correction please
BHO is not a 'house negro', he is a 'half-negro socialist with an african twist of social justice i.e. what is mine is mine, and what is yours is just mine to take. I know this type of social justice, I lived with it for 23 years. LOL!

Get a grip!
One columnist in America quotes another lame brained columnist in France and suddenly the whole country of France is under attack. All of France is not upset with Obama nor are all Arabs for that matter. I have to laugh at all these comments about MSM. Exactly, who are they. By the sound of it nobody posting tonight has ever read the Washington Post or the New York papers and they already missed the nightly news on the networks. So, exactly what is all your outrage at this supposed bias of the "mainstream" media. This posting has at least a dozen links to other conservative pundits does it have any links to a liberal counterpart. Newspaper readership is down all over the country. Nightly news programs have abysmal viewership. And, a quick check of my other TV and Radio choices show a far greater number of conservative talking heads then liberals. Do any of you even know where to go to get a different perspective?

The collective judgment...
For the third time in my life-time, we have chosen an intelligent, eloquent but untested conman as our leader of the “Free World” (Jimmy Carter was the first, Bill Clinton the second). “The obvious apprehension is that the anointed one is a stranger—a deeply engaging, elegant, brilliant but flawed stranger with whom we had a sweltering affair. Once we wake up, we will see the ring and wonder who exactly we married last night.” If President Obama is able to parley Congress to get what he has promised (taking from Peter and giving it to Paul; you will always get Paul’s vote), this wake-up-call may come to late to save America. We made the mistake of giving him the ring on November 4th. We were so disposed in doing so, only time will tell if we will live to regret it. Nov. 4th, 2008 will become known as “Judgment Day”.

The collective judgment displayed by the majority of the voters on Nov. 4th, 2008 is very disturbing. Obama reminds me of others throughout history, with their ability to so quietly and enchantingly say one thing, mean and do another; and people will shake their heads in approval of the very things they oppose. What is amazing is they believe they have agreed with him. The results of this election provide proof that people can be hypnotized to the degree that they not know what they are doing. What is very scary is that history has also proven repeatedly; that those willing to agree without questioning become hypnotized and are the first to die by the millions.

This election has set the course of this nation for the next two or three decades and possibly forever. I fear that the voting public does not really understand the choice they just made. My hope was that voters would choose the more difficult path of liberty and limited government; so that the American dream and culture for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness would once again triumph and flourish.

Rachel where have you been?
Rachael where have you been all this time? What a breath of fresh air. Sometimes Townhall columnist can be a little stuffy and full of themselves. It is great to read your articles that cut through all the B.S.and at the same time make us laugh while making the libs wet their pants. You have joined my club of Ann, Burt and a few others who possess those traits.

FRENCH WINE AND WAR
I would like to hear from some of you, how many years does it take for Americans to pay back France for Lafayette's help during our American Revolution? Let's see now, there's the Eiffel Tower we gave them, World War I, World War II, Dien Bin Phu in Vietnam. Did I miss any thing else.
Oh yes, the restoration of French vineyards in the 1970's from the California vineyards. We got escargots and French Bread, Merci.

We need to get past looking back at France for examples of style, fashion, etiquette, cuisine and approval. They have not been a player on the world stage since Waterloo.

Leadership
Obama said what he meant--and he means what he said: Change has come. It indeed has come to America and the World! But now the great man--and he is great, no matter what he achieves--has to lead. I love what Bob Novak says day before yesterday: The Presidency is not about managing or administering; it's about leading! Novak defines leadership as getting a cantankerous, diverse crowd to settle down a bit, to "move in the same direction." (Read the delightful and intructive interview on these pages at Townhall.com)

Sofasogood.

Glucksmann was also one of the few French intellectuals supporting the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He took position in favor of right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy for the 2007 presidential election.

Yeah, a real "European left winger" that!

Glucksmann is a Jew, he supports the neo-con (zionist) backed Iraq war which is extremely unpopular amongst all Europeans, and he supported the conservative French candidate Sarkozy, who is Jewish. Get the pattern here, folks?

guess again
Todd:"the shortest novel ever written? French War Heroes"

Napoleon Bonaparte, Marquis de La Fayette (in French and our revolutions), Charles De Gaulle, Joan of Arc, Samuel de Champlain, Charles Martel and Charlemagne (although by birthplace they both would technically today be considered Belgian, a country that did not exist until a millennium later), Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu (Cardinal-Duc de Richelieu), and of course William the Conqueror (William I of England).

It's late and freezing here in our nation's capitol, so I probably have forgotten someone, but before you dismiss the French, they were a formidable enemy of the English (our nation's colonial ancestor) for ages. Also, remember they aided us in our revolution against the Brits.

aaaah-so
Finally someone out there see's zionism at work, now all you have to do is understand the illuminati / rothchild influance!

Obama
Let's start telling the truth Obama is bi-racial not black. No matter what Obama does someone is going to be upset. If you are upset get over it.

SEVEN STORIES ABOUT BO's BC ON WND
WorldNetDaily (www.worldnetdaily.com) has seven (7) stories on aspects of Comrade BO's birth certificate today. One line from one of the stories stuck out:

"A few bold members of Congress are getting interested in demanding hearings on the issue."

That's very interesting, because up to this point, no mention of Congressional hearings was ever put forth.

Obama's real problem...
...is that he's not intuitively down with this "centrist" vibe. His inclinations are entirely toward a radical leftist philosophy. That is, if you believe as I do that as opposed to his campaign speechifying, the entirety of a person's rhetoric, actions, and associations, can be taken as an indication of his philosophical affinities, absent an enthusiastic and unequivocal repudiation of prior statements, relationships, and actions.

For those of you true believers out there who maintain that "guilt by association" is an invalid concept, I would have to ask, "is it indicative of anything at all?!" Could a reasonable person suggest that one's lifelong, unrelieved series of relationships with no one other than disgruntled leftists, radicals, communists, and race hustlers might offer some insight into his political leanings? Could we then presume a certain absence of affinity with "centrist" policy?

Given a choice between a marketable leftist, radical policy and a "centrist" one, could any thinking person conclude that he would choose the "centrist" one? Not without abandoning all reason. He means to move us further away from our roots in liberty, free-market capitalism, and federal republican government, and he would destroy these institutions completely if he could. THAT'S WHO HE IS! He said as much in his 2001 radio interview while a member of the Chicago legislature. He said as much to Joe the Plumber. In his own words. Hello? Anybody out there listening?

Under The Bus?
I wonder how many problem President-Elect Obama thinks he will still solve by finger pointing?

Obama
They elected him. Now they will have to abide him. I hope that circumstances will prevent him from carrying out what I perceive to be his agenda-make as many people as possible dependent on government, allow as many illegals in as possible, make them citizens (or allow them to vote anyway) so they can vote Democratic and keep the Democrats in power so as to move the USA more into the failed and failing patterns of Europe.
Donald W. Bales

Ah, so that's it
minky asks, "So what 'major' legislation do we need passed, Lon?"

The very question suggests why the conservative movement in this country is so far into the dumper.

Our Allies?
In the seventies, I traveled to France often. I spoke the language and kept my 'American views' to myself. I discovered that the French were well versed in fashion, but knew very little about the politics of their country. Even as a ditsy runway model, I knew the history of my country, had a copy of the Constitution on my wall at home, and knew much of the history of the country I was visiting. I read, you see.
I was truly surprised when I was refused service because someone at the table mentioned that I was from America. I was asked to leave. The French ‘designer’ that I was modeling the clothes for said nothing, and I ate in my room from then on.
For decades, the US has been sending France and other countries 'foreign aid'. I always wondered why. We have fought their battles, invited them to the US to learn everything from strategic military planning to new medical concepts, etc. I still wonder why.
France is not our only 'ally' that speaks very differently about America - depending on whether we're facing them or have our backs turned.
I don't respect their opinions very simply because I've spent time in their country.
I have a theory, though. The French people gave up many of their rights long ago. They continually belittle America, yet they come here for education and rights. They don’t seem to have the strength to stand up for their rights in their own government, so they've decided it would be easier to bring the US down to their level.
Regardless, I don't take the opinions of foreign 'leaders' seriously. I don't want to live like they are forced to. I don't want the government to take care of me. I don't want my safety compromised. I don't want to only hear 'one side' of everything - the government's side -, and I don't want their help to ‘fix’ things that are 'wrong' with the last free country in the world.
Merci - but no thank you.

Nov. 4 the High Point of BHO's tenure.
Rachel, your column is right on! Funny how it stops being easy when you're actually responsible to do it.
Also, I find it interesting how the market has dropped thousands of points AFTER Obama (pardon me while I genuflect) was elected. Obama saw fit to criticize EVERY decision by President Bush, but now that his own administration is literally weeks away from the reins of power he's urging President Bush to make the Auto Bailout decision. Excuse me, but the Dem's won this election cycle on the theory that President Bush can't order dinner competently, let alone set economic policy for the next administration. I'd have expected them to laud W. for not making things worse while they prep for their turn at bat.
But wait, silly me. I was actually thinking that Obama might try to govern, which takes a willingness to make and defend a decision. How could I forget that Obama's gotten where he is by voting 'Present' on most things. Didn't one of his acolytes point out to him that in the Oval Office, "The Buck Stops Here"? I could have sworn a democrat of some standing said that.
Obama, good thing you're used to raising big money because once again you've got big Bucks with your name on them heading your way.

After effects of Kool-Aid
Count me as one that never drank the Kool-Aid!

I never believed Obama could "heal the World" and, now, the Kool-Aid drinkers will suffer from long, long hangovers.

fly on the wall
It's so easy to criticize when you don't have all the facts- like since Obama wasn't a part of W's cabinet getting daily briefings on Iraq. I'd have loved to have been the fly on the wall during their meeting when this subject doubtless came up- what an eye opener!!!
They'll blame all of the negatives on President Bush, but Clinton took credit for all of the positive results from Reagan's economic policies. I guess liberals get to keep the news they like and blame the rest on the republicans/conservatives.
