Obama's Health Care Reform in Trouble

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Barack Obama's high-speed train to socialism was knocked off track by a surprising source: the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Just as the Senate HELP Committee (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) was about to begin voting on Chairman Ted Kennedy's, D-Mass., health care plan (which Obama had let be known was his favorite), CBO released a report that this plan would cost at least a trillion dollars and still leave 36 million people uninsured through 2017.

Obama had promised that people with private health insurance would not be harmed by his health care reform, but the CBO says this would not be true about the Kennedy bill. The CBO report says that the number of people with coverage through their employer would decline by about 15 million and coverage from other sources would fall by about 8 million.

The Senate committee decided to pause and ponder this sticker shock over the Fourth of July recess. While somewhat distancing himself from the Kennedy plan, Obama plowed ahead, saying, "The cost of inaction is greater," and accusing his critics of "fear tactics" about "socialized medicine."

In passionate rhetoric to the American Medical Association, Obama warned that "if we do not fix our health care system, America may go the way of GM." He falsely asserted that "there are countries where a single-payer system works pretty well."

Several other health care bills are being floated in Congress, and they are also fatally flawed. The CBO estimates that the bill worked on by the Senate Finance Committee will cost $1.6 trillion, so it's no wonder that Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., wants to rethink it, too, over the Fourth of July.

A private consulting group, Health Systems Innovations Network, estimates the cost of this bill at $4 trillion. The higher figure is explained by the assumption that more people will buy coverage after the government subsidy rises to those with incomes of 500 percent of the poverty level, or $110,000 for a family of four.

After working in secret for months, House Democrats launched an 852-page bill that would establish a government plan to compete with private insurance, require all Americans to carry insurance and require employers to provide coverage to employees or pay a fee of 8 percent of payroll. The Democrats didn't dare ask CBO to score the cost.

The Democrats, who customarily defeat all proposals to limit the jurisdiction of the courts, stipulate in this bill that there "shall be no administrative or judicial review."

Whichever turns out to be Obama's plan, it certainly will not reduce costs or government spending. Anybody who believes that government takeover of an industry or project will cost the taxpayers less money must believe in the tooth fairy.

Health care "reform" is being marketed as controlling (i.e., reducing) costs. Further examination shows that the main goals of "reform" are to increase control by government bureaucrats and provide free guaranteed care to nonworking Americans and illegal aliens.

But they already receive health care. The advocacy group Families USA reports that health care for the uninsured is paid for by themselves (37 percent), by government and charities (26 percent), and by being absorbed by doctors and hospitals or shifted to high private insurance premiums.

"Public option" is becoming a common expression in the health care debate. This means creating a government-run health care insurance system similar to Medicare that would compete with private insurers.

Employer mandates are included in most plans despite small businesses' forecast that this is a job-killer and would force them to spend money they don't have. Once employers realize that paying a fine is cheaper than providing health insurance, look for millions of Americans to lose the benefits with which they are now very content.

Individual mandates are also on the table -- of course subsidized for low-income people. Requiring every American to buy health insurance that meets certain minimum requirements (and providing unwanted or unneeded benefits) will force healthy young people to subsidize unhealthy older people.

When people are required to pay for more coverage than they want or need, they usually try to get their money's worth, which means long waiting lists to see the doctor, like what is already happening in Massachusetts. And what about the most controversial of all proposals: making employees pay income tax on their employer-paid health benefits?

Look out for the words "comparative effectiveness research," which mean rationing care by telling you that you are not sick enough or not the right age to get the tests and care you know you need.

Ronald Reagan observed in his first inaugural address that "government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." It's time for taxpaying Americans to stand up against Obama's health care atrocity and just say no.

taxpaying Americans ?
Unfortunately, Obama is more likely to listen to those who DON'T pay taxes rather than those who do.

YOUR new and improved lifestyle under BO

Buyer beware:

pages 382 and 383, THEY OBAMA and KENNEDy will be sending the community organizers to your house to check :

1. WHAT AND HOW MUCH you eat
2. How much you exercise
3. HOW much you weigh
4. What you drink and smoke, etc.
5. What high risk lifestyle activities you engage in. LIKE extreme SKIING:
6. what and how fast you drive.

THEN THE COMMUNITY Organizers (Acorn with a new name now) will dictate your NEW and IMPROVED lifestyle and you will OBEY or there will be a fine and or you will be denied health care:

THAT IS THE OBAMA SCARE PLAN.

AWOL in all proposed Plans !

MISSSING in all proposed plans:

MISSING in all proposed plans !

1. eliminate every dime of the waste, fraud and abuse FIRST, in

Medicare
Medicaid
S-Chips
VA health Care

2. CAP, medical malpractice LAWYERS fees, and awards and restrict the millions a lawyer gets for CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS.

3. DISMISS all bogus law suits and make the Losers pay all of the attorney and court fees.

4. ZERO free medical care for those who have invaded our country (ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and their extended families)

5. STOP THE BORN IN THE USA instant citizenship scam.

6. NO unlimited free abortions and NO 6 billion to abortion clinics and zero $$ for free abortions around the WORLD.

7. NO free sex change proceedures, lipo suction and no free unlimited face lifts and no more elective cosmetic proceedures.

8. No more free "addiction" rehab programs, Like: illegal drugs, gambling, eating disorders, sexual deviant disorders and no more organ transplants to those in prison.

THAT WOULD BE HEALTH CARE REFORM

THAT Would cut our medical costs by 50% off the top.

WE DO NOT NEED another million more "JOHN EDWARDS" who became billionaires bringing bogus and fraudulent law suits against the medical profession.

B2slim
From what you have set forth, I like your health care plan!

"The cost of inaction is greater"
President Obama is becoming very skilled at being "the boy who cried 'wolf'"

AMEN, AMEN AND AMEN,
Ms. Schlafley. I am totally content with my healthcare insurance and don't want it screwed with by Obamacare. Also, we should DEMAND that any healthcare plan forced on "we the people" by Obama should also be forced on Obama and all government employees. If it's good for the people, it's good for the POTUS. Otherwise, it's good for NOTHING.

Under Obama's Plan
Under Obama's plan, anyone who has health insurance today and wants to keep it, can keep it. Period. Health care reform will help the 45 million Americans who do not have health insurance, especially the ones who have health issues and so are now excluded from the private health insurance market.

Reform will also help the millions who are under-insured. By that they are talking about a plan offered to a friend of mine by his employer. For $1000/year, the plan has a $500 deductible, after which there is a 50% co-pay up to a maximum of $2000/year payout. Annual checkups are explicitly excluded from coverage. My friend declined to buy this insurance and, even though he works 40-50 hours a week, he is part of the uninsured.

We can only hope...
I don't want my proctology exam from ObamaCare, if you know what I mean...www.theblacksphere.net!

Georgiagirl
let me get this straight....those of us that are paying outrageous amounts to keep our private health care will be able to continue doing so along with paying for those that pay nothing.

Does the Dem Plan exclude Congress?
Does the Democrat plan also exempt Congress, the White House and federal employees from participation in the plan? The Kennedy Plan mandates that everyone must buy into the plan EXCEPT Congress and federal employees.

WHY? Are they 'better' than us? Are they somehow more 'deserving' of a superior plan? By including that exemption in the Kennedy plan, it is very telling--Congress wants no part of it as written for themselves--but for us peons, it'll be just fine--we don't matter.

If Congress exempts themselves from participation in any plan, we are going to get a POS plan while they enjoy the finest care this country can offer. We will be forced to either wait in line or be outright denyed care.

If Congress mandates that they too must participate in it, we might get a better plan. If not, it'll be like Social Security compared to the Congressional retirement plan. If Congress was forced into Social Security, you can bet they would have fixed it by now. They want nothing but the best for themselves, but we, somehow don't deserve equal treatment or benefits.

B2slim
Just a few additions to your lists.
Community organizers will also be checking to make sure that:

7. Your tires are properly inflated.
8. What kind of lightbulbs you are using.

Something else missing in health care plans.

9. Provisions to break up the American Medical Association Cartel's limits on medical school slots.

If the number of medical school slots had increased at the same rate as law school slots over the past 40 years, not only would healthcare be less expensive, but maybe it would be easier to find a doctor who actually knew how to listen to their patients.

GeorgiaGal ??
How do you keep your health care plan if your company no longer allows it. This is what will happen with the goverment option. And This already happens with medicare; so dont say it wont.

Dont listen the Obama the President/salesman, listen to Obama and his buddies BEFORE they were in power. Single Payer is the GOAL!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryKGqF28d34

Things every one says will cut prices; but will never do
1) TORT reform; Dems owned by lawyers
2) Give individuals tax breaks as well; wont happen as it takes power away from gov.
3) Cut down on Medicare fraud which is 20-30%, wont happen because it not their money.

***************
Lastly I will give the Gov control as soon as they fix

1) Medicare
2) Medicade
3) SS
4) VA
5) Amtrack
6) Post Office

Notice something?? ALL but VA are seriously in the RED!!! So why would anyone give the GOV contol of more; when there is NO evidence that it can run anythin now. ITs like giving a known pyromaniac a blow torch and a gas tanker; And you are then suprised that the city is on fire!!!

What Obama healthcare is really about
What government healthcare is really all about; more money for the government. What few people realize is that a bill that Ted Kennedy was instrumental in, the COBRA Act of 1986, had within it a section concerning Medicare fraud that has been the largest source of revenue the US government has ever had. The definition of fraud laid out was any mistake in Medicare billing whether over billing or under billing through intent or simple clerical error. All physicians that provide care for Medicare patients are subject to audit at any time and can find that as in a case that I know of, a thirty cent under billing for a very common procedure cost that physician over three hundred thousand dollars in penalties. Even the threat of audit is enough for physicians and hospitals to write a check “just in case” in 1999 the Teaching Hospital of the University of Florida wrote a check for nine million dollars rather than face an audit. There is no defense, guilt is assumed and cannot be disproven, and so any mistake can cost a physician their life’s savings. One of the unforeseen (by the government anyway) results of these audits was for thousands of physicians refusing to treat Medicare patients for fear of a clerical error.
Now if Obama gets his way all medical care will be subject to this kind of draconian auditing, the amount of money that the government will confiscate from physicians will be astronomical, for a year or two until the well is dry. Therefore, it has always been revenue not altruism that drives the proponents of universal healthcare, because physicians are a resource that has been tapped and now must be strip mined for revenue.
The resulting chaos is a price that politicians are willing for us to pay, after all they have the best healthcare in the world just ask Ted.

My health care solution
Let working Americans build tax free health care accounts outside of their employers' health plan. My last employer had a health care account option. I used it to pay all of my out of pocket expenses like copays on doctor visits and meds, and expenses for non-covered health care. It was great. If you picked $1,000 a year, you were issued a debit card and you could use the money even if it had not been deducted from your check. In other words, you weren't restricted to that amount that had already been deducted (which would have meant that at the beginning of the fiscal year you couldn't use it at all, at the end of the fiscal year you would have to use it all or lose it.) This account would remain tax free unlike the taxes the Congress is considering for our employer health care. Benefits were created to give employees incentive in lieu of more salary which was taxable to both the employer and the employee. If Congress taxes health care, the reason to provide health care to employees is gone, and the health care will disappear as well. Obama says the government just wants to compete with private companies. The government is larger that private companies, so it doesn't compete, it crushes competition. Because the government can always force private companies to play the game its way. As Schlafly says, if anyone believes that health insurance/care for all will be cheaper, they DO believe in the tooth fairy. Otherwise known as kool-aid drinking Democrats. But then, when did Democrats let economics stop their train wreck of deficit spending?

Yes Binc
Thieves like GeorgiaGal think they have a right and you have an obligation to provide it for them. Why should they pay for it when they can get government to go and steal it from you on their behalf.

You see, because they wake up in the morning they are entitiled to the fruit of someone else's labor and effort. They want their free government cheese. You are evil if you won't let them steal it from you.

All the people like this idiot, if they were really sincere about how they want to help people, would associate with people who also think like them. They could then raise and contribute their own money to help anyone they wanted.

But see, they are vultures and contemptible liars. They think they are special because the 'talk' about the issue. They expect someone else to actually provide and pay for the services.

Why don't people see
that every single thing government involves itself in continuously becomes more expensive while quality declines.

Conversely, things in the private sector (when left alone by government) become less expensive while quality improves. Look at something like laser surgery for the eyes. It's not covered by insurance, which is overwhelmingly regulated by government and suffocated with mandates, so it has to compete. As a result, the cost has continuously gone down for the service as the quality of care improves.

The government screwed up health care years ago. It is already is involved in over 50% of all medical activity. This is why the system is so broken.

The blood's shooting out of my eyes
When I hear these whiners crying out for benefits.

My mother and her parents came here from Ireland when she was 8 years old. They had only the clothes they wore and the promise of opportunity. They saw this as an immense privilege to be able to emmigrate here.

But people like GeorgiaGal, born in the greatest country in human history and provided with innumerable blessings born from the ultimate sacrifices of those who came before, complain about everything and think somebody owes them something.

How did our pioneers have the courage to strike out westward into the unknown on their own? No one gave them anything or promised them anything.

People like G-gal and her friend should go pay for their own needs. If they don't, then when something unfortunate happens to them they should live with the consequences of their actions or, in this case, inaction.

Georgia Gal
Read B2slim's plan.

And then after you read that, go to

FairTax.Org

and read it.

Maybe then you'll finally wake up and smell the coffee.

Healthcare Insanity!!!
B2Slim, I agree with you completely. The only thing that I would add is that we need to gradually make the transition to private health insurance which is intended to only coveer catostrophic illness or injury, along with self funded HSA's to cover the colds, sinus infections, annual check-ups, etc. PV from CT stole my thunder regarding lasik. Without any insurance coverage nor any goveernment interference, the cost of the procedure has steadily gone down, while the quality and technology has improved. The best way to control costs is for every person to look for their own best deal.

To Georgia Gal: Would you be comfortable if GW Bush wanted to take over your health care? Somehow I doubt it...Neither would I... and I liked GW! My point is that there are a number of people out there, of a liberal mindset that would trust the Democrats with their very lives and freedom...completely. The conservative viewpoint is that we do not trust the government to be involved in our personal lives, regardless of who is in power. You may think that under Obama's plan that your friend would be completely covered. The fact is that he would pay about the same or more than he does now for even less coverage. He would also give up having any choices. It sounds like his employer is not really helping much. Perhaps he should shop around for a better plan on his own. They are out there, he just needs to take responsibility for his coverage.

Dear Mrs. (or is it Miss) Schlafly
Obama warned that "if we do not fix our health care system, America may go the way of GM." He falsely asserted that "there are countries where a single-payer system works pretty well."

Please name a single-payer health care system that has caused personal bankruptcy in tnes of thousands of people.

No Richard
In those countries with Single Payer, they just let you die. It's very inexpensive and there's no cost to you. Just die.

richard...
Paul Ehrlich, a favorite of liberals once famously predicted that by the 80s, America would face famine and starvation. When I was in school, liberals were worried about global cooling and we were all told we would be freezing to death by now. But a funny thing happened... Al Gore noted the rise in CO2 which follows global warming as the solubility of CO2 in the oceans decreases with temperature and voila, we are now facing a manmade global warming crisis created by burning fossil fuels and producing CO2 emissions. Mr Gore's premise that the oceans will rise 10's of feet is just as innacurate a prediction as Obama's prediction that healthcare in America will go the way of GM. As usual, liberals are not very good at predicting the future.

I don't think Mrs Schaffly said that there were any single payer systems that caused the bankruptcy of tens of thousands of people. What we do know about single-payer healthcare systems is that it inevitably begets rationing. The rationing nay not be called that, but it is recognized by long waits and limited options for healthcare. If you die before you recieve healthcare, it probably doesn't matter too much how affordable it is. I wonder if Obama realizes that GM's problem was that it refused to react to competition from other producers. There is little competition to threaten healthcare today and with Obama care, there will be no competition. We don't need Obama care, we need to encourage competition in healthcare services and we need to free consumers to choose the healthcare they want from the choices available in the free market.

In what sense is it "reform?"
Funny how the word "reform" has become a synonym for "government-controlled." "Campaign finance reform," "Health Care Reform," "Financial Industry reform," "executive pay reform."

Maybe this is the secret plan for dealing w/ the coming Social(ist) (In)Security crisis: ration health care services to seniors.

Isn't it sweet they're looking to make their socialized medicine regime some sort of memorial to Ted Kennedy while he's still alive(& receiving care he's about to abolish for the rest of us). Sorta like having a concentration camp or a Superfund site named after you. Maybe it could be named for Mary Jo Kopechne.

FeedFwd:
"I don't think Mrs Schaffly said that there were any single payer systems that caused the bankruptcy of tens of thousands of people."

No, she didn't. That was not the point of my question.

"What we do know about single-payer healthcare systems is that it inevitably begets rationing. The rationing nay not be called that, but it is recognized by long waits and limited options for healthcare. If you die before you recieve healthcare, it probably doesn't matter too much how affordable it is."

Private health insurers in this country also ration health care, with the same consequences.

Why do I need to pay for others?
I read this news story a year ago when I was doing research for a term paper on this very topic. It was about this couple who w/2 kids, he worked as a contractor, she stayed home, they lived in a huge house with an ocean view. The story tried to make you feel sorry for them because they didn't have health insurance and the parents would not let the kids do anything because they were afraid that the kids would get hurt and have to go to the hospital. Well, if you look at it from the liberal's view point, we should help these poor people and allow Obama to take our hard earned money to pay for their healthcare. If you look at it from the personal responsibility view point (Conservative) you will see many flaws with this story. First of all, why as a taxpayer should I be responsible for their lifestyle choices? This family chose to buy a huge house with the ocean view they couldn't afford, they remodeled it, she stays home....what is wrong with this picture? Instead of taxing me twice, once for my employer based benefits and then taxing me to pay for others, this family could find a cheaper house, (w/o the ocean view) and she needs to get a job with insurance, even if it is part time with Starbucks. I don't expect others to pay for my car insurance, my house insurance or my life insurance, why do people think it is a right to make me pay your way in life? If I pay for your healthcare and your are out of shape, an unhealthy a smoker or drinker, I should have the right to control your life because I am paying your way....

Uhhh...
I'd love to read your research paper. Please post a link to it.

Healthcare Reform
Mrs. Schlafly...that was one of the best articles yet, hitting the nail on the head. Cost containment should be the focus to repairing our healthcare system, not paying for a broken system with money this country simply doesn't have !!!!!
