Time to Bring an End to the DREAM Act

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

The American people rose up out of their usual apathy and soundly defeated the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 that would have given amnesty to illegal immigrants. Now, some senators are trying to get Congress to pass a backdoor amnesty by calling it the DREAM Act, and it's really a nightmare for Americans.

The cutesy title DREAM, which is meant to be a double-entendre, is an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors.

The DREAM Act would allow any illegal immigrant of any age who entered the United States before age 16 and has a high school diploma or equivalent to enroll in any state university and pay only the in-state tuition rate. Being an illegal immigrant is the prerequisite to getting this preferential treatment, which is denied to legal aliens with valid student visas.

In-state tuition can amount to a taxpayer subsidy of up to $20,000 a year, depending on what the university charges students from the other 49 states. The illegal immigrant also becomes eligible for taxpayer-paid federal student loans and federal work-study programs, for which lawful foreign students are ineligible.

There is no upper age limit; any illegal immigrant is eligible for this preference by declaring he entered the U.S. illegally before his 16th birthday. The illegal immigrant doesn't have to prove when he entered the U.S.; he can simply make a sworn statement.

But that's not all. The illegal immigrant would be rewarded with conditional lawful permanent resident, green card, status, which can be converted to a non-conditional green card. The immigrant can use his new legal status to seek green cards for the parents who brought him into the United States.

The student has six years to convert his green card from conditional to non-conditional. He just needs to complete two years of study at a college or serve two years in the military, and if he has already had two years of college, he can convert his green card to non-conditional immediately.

The illegal immigrant who applies for the DREAM Act can count his years under conditional green card status toward the five years needed to attain citizenship. That's a fast track to citizenship that is not available to aliens who are lawfully present in the United States.

Section 4(f) provides that, once an illegal immigrant files an application, the government cannot deport him. A federal officer who shares with another federal agency any information on the illegal immigrant's application, such as admission of illegal entry, can be fined $10,000.

Giving in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants is so unpopular with many Americans that the only way a Congressman could support this bill is by hoping it passes before the public discovers how bad it is. Arizona's Proposition 300, which specifically bars Arizona universities from giving in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants, passed in 2006 with a majority of 71.4 percent.

Support for in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants was the No. 1 issue that caused the upset defeat of former U.S. Rep. Tom Osborne, R-Neb. (the former University of Nebraska football coach) in his campaign for governor of Nebraska in 2006. He fumbled and endorsed in-state tuition for illegal immigrants while his opponent, Republican Gov. Dave Heineman, vetoed it and ran campaign ads against it.

The DREAM Act would give amnesty not only to illegal immigrants, but also give amnesty to 10 states that have been flagrantly violating federal law. The 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act expressly forbids a state to give in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants unless that subsidy is also granted to all U.S. citizens nationwide.

The DREAM Act would retroactively repeal that law, thereby saving the 10 states from punishment and equal-protection lawsuits filed by out-of-state U.S. citizens and law-abiding foreign students. The 10 states that have been engaging in a 21st century use of the 19th century theory called nullification, defying a federal law the state doesn't like, are California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Washington.

We are indebted to professor Kris W. Kobach of the University of Missouri-Kansas City for publicizing how the DREAM Act treats illegal immigrants more favorably than U.S. citizens and legal aliens. The bill's sponsor, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has not been successful in attaching it to a defense authorization bill, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., says he will bring it up in November.

Tell your U.S. senators the DREAM Act must be defeated.

working fulltime
Our politicians are working fulltime to ruin this country. They have an uncontrollable urge to spend other people’s money, and now they have found a new special interest group to pander to.

I think it is time for me to go to Mexico and get a false birth certificate… maybe I will qualify for some special benefits.

While the developing world surges forward with industrial development, our politicians are working hard to saddle the US with more “entitlement” recipients. I am sure the Feds give legal foreign students (who are the best and brightest of their home country) all sorts of hurdles and barriers.

Instead of going around the world to ‘headhunt’ the best and brightest, we are inviting the unskilled and poor. Over the next two decades things in the world will have changed so much, that we will not be able to easily attract the best and brightest. At that time, we will be competing head-to-head.

There are only three things I can do to prepare for this mega shift in the world economy: 1) invest my money abroad; 2) complain to my representatives, and; 3) build skills so I will not slide into a situation where I am competing with someone qualified and willing to work for a fraction of the pay I want. I am doing all three.

They have been doing it since 1934.
You congress at work, telling you once more to bend over. Take you medicine it's good for you and more effective taken rectally.

Good luck with any kind of reform these idiots must vote on.

Thanks Phyllis
I heard about this mess a couple of weeks ago when NPR ran a tear jerker about some little illegal who was facing deportation, while his brother would get to stay by way of being born in America. My plan is to deport the whole lot of them, but we know the G won't do anything like that!

Anyway, keep shouting about this travishamockery so the "honorable" members of Congress can't sneak this past the people.

Our Communist Congress

Your Communist Congress is hard at work to spread America’s love to all who can get here while ignoring their sworn obligation to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

THEIR DREAM IS YOUR NIGHTMARE
As I told my Senators a month or so ago before this nightmare act was defeated, I have a granddaughter in college who is working in her "spare time" at a video rental shop to help out with expenses.

One of Durbin's illegal darlings, poor thing, had been brought here as a child, was not naturalized, and, while bright, must, instead of working with his mind, hang Sheet-rock for a living.

I don't know about most of you, but hanging Sheet-rock, while perhaps not requiring a Columbia University College degree, does require some knowledge. The most important thing is that this poor illegal can make a lot more money at hanging Sheet-Rock than my daughter at a video store.

Ergo, he can help himself through college.

The poor little thing does not need my help.

I mentioned to my Senators that if this "DREAM" Act passes, I want the same for my granddaughter that that illegal will get.

Congress has no idea how angry the populace is about this nightmare.

Let's tell them.

THANK YOU, MS. SCHLAFLY
In my earlier comment I forgot to say thank you to Phyllis Schlafly for bringing this matter to the attention of many of us some weeks ago, when we otherwise would have heard nothing about it.

Same with L.O.S.T. ("Law of the Sea Treaty"). What a travesty that is -- or will be if it has already passed. I'd not heard much about that until Ms. Schlafly's first heads-up. It's in the category of the NAU, which most Americans are solidly against.

Thanks, Ms. Schlafly, again.

I will ask my two Senators

quote:
"Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has not been successful in attaching it to a defense authorization bill, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., says he will bring it up in November."

---------------------

To put up for a vote to the American people to DEPORT BOTH OF THE SORRY NO GOOD ROTTEN THIEVES TO MEXICO.

Bet we get the biggest turnout in history of voters.

Conservatives Go To Congress
These are my thoughts:

A delegation of like-minded conservatives from every state requests a set date to meet with all the congressmen in Washington. The purpose for this is to give "the people" the opportunity to ask questions of any member and to strongly assert the positions of conservative citizens.

The following day these delegates would follow the same agenda, this time with all of the Senators. Or vice-versa.

What justification could Congress legitimately have to refuse, since they are OUR representatives. If they try to weasel their way out of a face-to-face meeting, it will be well-publicized, for sure. (Not by the MSM, of course)

If this were ever to come about, I would like to see it televised live!

Criminal Intent?
If the illegal alien came here as a child, they were too young to form criminal intent, and/or acting under duress. Therefore it is wrong to label them criminals. I do agree that it is ridiculous that illegals should get better treatment than those who have their green card, but is there no room for compassion here?

If a child has spent the vast majority of their life in the US, studied hard, and done all the things that make for a model citizen, why should they be punished for their parents actions? I think that it is in America's interest to encourage and reward those of talent and achievement, even if their parents brought them here illegally. Excellence is always good for America.

This program, however, appears to be open to the mediocre, and as such has to go. But let us not be so hard-hearted that we deport people of distinction and talent who through their actions have earned their place in America, regardless of their parent's crimes.

Green Card?
Did you miss the part where the subject illegals could enroll in any university and pay only
in-state tuiition rate?

Why should they be given a benefit that an American family cannot enjoy? A citizen must pay full tuition at an out-of-state college AND he/she or the parents would also be required to subsidize the educations of those who legitimately shouldn't even be here!

This travesty does not only affect Green Card holders...it cheats American citizens.

That may be OK with you and the liberal-minded crowd who have no problem spending other people's money.

The many who disagree with you really are not mean people. They simply want to be treated justly, which is their right.

Time to Bring an End to the DREAM Act
Vote for candidates who will stop the invasion and secure our borders. Do not allow illegal alien's benefits unless it is a life or death situation. Send the illegal’s back to their point of origin, specifically Mexico. Build the fence and enforce the laws of the land and withhold all federal money to sanctuary cities.

To illegal alien's - work for change in your own country!

Congress does NOT represent the people
It is a fact that we the people no longer have proper representation in Congress. Just this summer the people spoke loudly and flooded Congress protesting amnesty for illegal aliens. This slowed them down slightly, but now Congress is at it again! This time they gave it a cute name: DREAM ACT. This is yet another scam being created by Congress and forced on us.

Clearly Congress is very good at ignoring the will of the people, and they are now trying to push through amnesty in a different form. This bill gives legalization to any illegal alien who claims to have arrived here before age 16, and with no background check or even any real proof when they entered. All they have to do is swear that they were under age 16 when they illegally entered the United States. Surely they wouldn't stretch the truth a little to get amnesty and special entitlements, right? Then, these "anchor teens" are enabled to legally bring in the rest of their family members into our country. Wow! If that isn't amnesty, what is it?

The ill-conceived special entitlements given to these illegal aliens which gives them favorable in-state tuition at tax-supported universities and federal loans, while CITIZENS from other states must pay more, really angers me! Maybe our young should all denounce their citizenship in order to get the freebies... But wait, who will pay for all of this? That's right, you and I, the taxpayers!

Schools, hospitals and all other public resources are already suffering because our federal government is not doing their job. Now they want to _intentionally create_ this HUGE LOOPHOLE and make things much worse. Next, if this passes, they will want to raise taxes to pay for all of this. Just wait and see, it is very predictable.

As I said in the beginning, we no longer have proper representation in Congress. These people do what they want while ignoring the will of the people, and regardless of whether or not their actions are good for our country!

SiliconDoc
Republicans had their majority. It was a Republican President and the Republican congressional leadership that tried twice to ram amnesty down our throats. What makes you think that giving control back would change anything? The Republican leadership has no more interest in listening to your concerns than the Democrats do. They proved it. They also spent more money and grew government faster than the Democrats had done in the previous 30 years. Why should anyone believe that they would not continue along the same track? What's the difference, after all, between ramming a huge new entitlement called the prescription drug act down our throats in the middle of the night with little debate and with estimates as to cost that were flatly false, and Hillary's version of health care. Not much.

You need to put your thinking cap on and realize that your anger at the Democrats applies equally to the current GOP.

HUNTER FOR AMERICA

Securing the border and enforcing the law is the only way we get to keep our rule of law, our representative Republic, and our Constitution. We must elect a President who WILL secure the border and enforce the law. If citizenship becomes meaningless, this will no longer be the United States of America.

The so-called "top tier" will not get out the voters necessary for a GOP win. Increasing turnout is the key. Give people something to vote for. Not just the lesser of two evils. Won't work this time. People are fed up with the inundation of illegal aliens. They would come out in droves for the clear choice of D=amnesty or R=enforcement. They will stay home if they both equal amnesty.

There is a huge majority of American citizens waiting for someone to pledge to uphold the laws and secure the borders, let's not ignore them any more.

Reward Military Service
Rewarding illegal aliens for attending college is just ridiculous.

Is there be a requirement to graduate, or maintain a certain GPA? Is there a requirement to enroll in a major such as math, engineering, bioscience or computer science? Or how about a requirement to teach in an inner city school district for 4 years?

Is there even a requirement to master the English language? I'll bet the DREAM act would subsidize an illegal aliens who majors in Spanish (the language) and Hispanic Studies.

However, I would gladly reward anyone who serves honorably in the US Army or Marice Corps, who swear allegiance to this country and who learns the language and culture.

I still would not allow chain immigration. Every immigrant needs to earn their own status as a citizen.

Punishment?
Punishment?

“why should they be punished for their parents actions?”

So, gwco2skeptic, paying full tuition is “punishment”?

As one who is currently paying for two college tuitions, I have to ask, for who’s actions am I being punished? Is it because I‘ve always abided by the laws of this land, and faithfully paid my taxes?

Is it because I never stole someone else’s identity and used their SS# to avoid paying income tax? Is it because I’ve chosen (for 25 years) to pay for health care insurance for my family, as well as paying all my part of the bills rather than use the emergency room at the expense of others?

Is it because I’ve never received one penny of welfare – nor any other taxpayer funded “freebie”, including no-cost school lunches?

What!?!? What did I do wrong, gwco2skeptic?

Reward military service?
How does an illegal alien join the military? If someone immigrates here legally and joins the military, I would gladly give them fast track status after serving honorably for 4 years.
The only way to stop any of this garbage is to return to pre 1986 immigration levels of 150,000 per year. We also have to start punishing the companies that are employing illegals. I'm sorry but if you want to have a sheetrock hanging business or build homes or own a restaurant in this country, you should have to obey the law like everyone else.

I think all Americans
should call themselves by a Spanish surname and refuse to show a driver's license or any other ID on the basis they're illegal, while at the same time filing papers for every state and federal freebee there is, using made up SS#s. Flood the various agencies with so many phony applications they won't be able to handle them. Mass disobedience drives the authorities crazy. Why should chicanos have all the fun?

Durbin's Highjinks
Senator Durbin is my state's senior senator. The DREAM Act isn't the only project he's tried to get implemented for special groups. Durbin also proposed legislation that would have the taxpayer pay back the educational loans recent law school graduates have if they decided to work for a local states attorney's office. In Illinois that means that the politically and racially connected sons, daughters, neices and nephews who get into the Cook County state's attorney's office (a Democratic Party fiefdom)would not only get a taxpayer-funded salary (while more qualified graduates are flipped off) but also a tapayer-funded loan forgiveness program. Yessir, Senator Durbin really looks out for the average Illinois citizen. This is a perfect example why this country needs an active taxpayer revolt against both national, state and local government. The politicians simply won't listen to anything else.

Pulled over by a h'way cop.
Cop: "Do you know you were going over the speed limit?"

Me: "Nope. Can't read the signs."

Cop: (dubiously) "Can't read the signs, eh? Okay. Let's see your driver's license and registration."

Me: "Don't have any. I'm an illegal alien."

Cop: (startled) "What? You're white. You're driving a Mercedes."

Me: "So? Is that a crime?"

Cop: "You've got a perfect English accent."

Me: "I was educated at Oxford. So what?"

Cop: "So let me get this straight. You're a white illegal alien, educated at Oxford and can't read English signs. Right?"

Me: "Half of them are in Spanish."

Cop: (pause) "All right. I'm going to cite you for driving without a license, let's start with your name."

Me: "Speedy Gonzales."

Cop: "Oookay." (after a long pause) "I'd like you to step out of the car, Speedy, and stand over there. Any drugs, weapons in your possession?

Me: "Hey, you can't do this. I'm an illegal alien. I know my rights..."

Why?
Why, I just keep asking why, I mean in the end there must be some point in their wanting to always be putting non Americans first.

Why do they want to do that, what is the purpose, how can they look at themselves and not feel shame in how they are rejecting their nation, and their brothers and sisters in America.

It makes no sense how one could be so shifty and insidious in hating their own nation and peoples in this way, especially after raising so high in the political sphere

Think
Rubicon, it's really simple. They Are The World.
Ain't you never seen their bumper stickers, " Think Globally; Act Locally"? Elect Duncan Hunter.

Big opportunity for first tier
The fact that the top tier candidates just won't step up and denounce Congress for continually re-introducing this bill speaks volumes. It re-enforces the growing perception that the "fix" is in and they will say anything to get elected. Just one of these guys could put an end to this once and for all. Don't hold your breath. The choice is whether we want to get stabbed in the chest by electing a Democrat or stabbed in the back by electing Giuliani, McCain or possibly Romney and Thompson.

Dem = Delilah; Uncle Sam = Samson
Democrats to America are like Delilah to Samson.

The latest on the Dream Act

It will again be offered as an amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill (H.R. 3043) on the Senate floor.

Excellent article.

http://www.gohunter08.com

Not All of Congress Crooked
Certainly most of it though. Rep. Tom Tancredo,Duncan Hunter, Steve King are three that are real conservatives that take their oath of office seriously. As long as the republican party, I mean the party of big business and cheap labor puts up candidates like Rudy,Romney, McCain, Fred, we are doomed. The sell out started with W and is accelerating. NAFTA, SPP, NAU, Amero, CAFTA. Rest in Peace, U.S.A.

If you are not content with the U.S. demise, then support ToM Tancredo for president. Otherwise, learn Spanish and get ready for socialism.

Punishment?
Sending the illegals back home isn't a punishment. Millions of bright, hard working, able bodied people willing to do any job just to get ahead is the prescription for a new golden age south of the border. New millionaires will be sprouting up like weed.. er ... mushrooms ... uh, well, you get the idea. The new Mexican prosperity engendered by their return will rival the Aztecs. Sending them home is an opportunity that should not be denied them. Rather we should encourage it in the strongest tough love fashion Uncle Sam can muster.
