Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Our federal and state highways and bridges are among America's great assets; they enable us to drive freely and safely all over the country, and they belong to all of us, paid for by our taxes. But they are expensive assets; they require maintenance, repair and expansion due to rising population and traffic.

Anyone who does much driving on our highways in ordinary sedans knows how crowded with big trucks the highways already are. President George W. Bush's latest concession to Mexico is to allow Mexican trucks for the first time to have open access to all our highways, roads and bridges.

It is painful to note that the Bush administration is less protective of U.S. interests than the late, unlamented administration of former president Bill Clinton. To his credit, Clinton kept Mexican trucks off U.S. highways except for a 25-mile commercial zone immediately north of the border.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters went to El Paso, Texas, to announce that for the first time, starting in April, 100 Mexican trucking companies will be allowed to make deliveries anywhere in the United States, and she put no limit on the number of trucks the 100 companies can operate. This is a major step toward Bush's vision of a North American community.

To find out why the Bush administration ignores the comfort and safety of ordinary U.S. drivers, just follow the money. Big corporations are eager to have their made-in-Mexico-by-cheap-labor products delivered in the United States by Mexican drivers, who are paid 33 to 40 percent less than U.S. truckers.

Bush will never face the voters again, but other Republicans will pay the price for his coziness toward Mexico and his elitist disregard for American workers. Even the Wall Street Journal, an enthusiastic supporter of the movement of goods, services and people, legal or illegal, across the U.S.-Mexico border, admits that rising public opinion against the importation of cheap labor "helped propel Democrats to take back Congress in November."

The jobs issue will be even bigger in 2008, and the cost to Republicans even more damaging.

The problem is not only the increased wear and tear on American highways that U.S. taxpayers will subsidize, and not even the crowding of the roads that will make driving less pleasant for us all, but it's worry about safety. That concern is real, even if you don't buy Teamsters President Jim Hoffa's statement, "They are playing a game of Russian roulette on American's highways." Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff assures us he is "committed to retaining a high level of security and safety standards under this program." But we are entitled to disbelieve his promise; Michael Chertoff is impudently repudiating Congress's Secure Fence Act and the president's much photographed pre-election signing of the Act.

Del Rio, Texas, Mayor Efrain Valdez boasted on Feb. 22 that "Secretary Chertoff stated publicly after the meeting (with Texas border mayors) that Texas doesn't need a fence."

Maybe Chertoff will give us "virtual" safety standards like the "virtual fence" he sometimes talks about. At the present time, only about 2 percent of trucks coming across the border are inspected, so drug dealers consider it a cost of doing business that a few of their illegal loads will be caught.

U.S. truck drivers must meet strict requirements that include enforcement of hours, regular physicals, age limits, and drug and alcohol tests. We have no way of telling how many hours Mexican truck drivers have been on the road before they reach our border inspectors.

Mexico has no limits on how many hours a driver can drive a truck, and no credible drug testing of drivers. The Mexican trucking industry, with few exceptions, has never successfully been monitored, much less supervised. National Transportation Safety Board member Deborah A.P. Hersman doubts that we have the personnel to take on the additional work of sending inspectors to Mexico. She says we already lack enough inspectors to conduct safety reviews of at-risk domestic carriers.

Over the last several years, there have been many fatal accidents caused by cars and trucks driven by Mexicans, legal and illegal. The most tragic and costly truck accident in Midwest history, resulting in the incineration of Rev. Scott Willis' six children in 1994, was caused by a Mexican truck driver's inability to comprehend warnings in the English language.

Secretary Peters claims Mexican drivers will be able to understand English, but we are entitled to doubt Bush's enforcement of the English-language regulation. Mexican drivers unfamiliar with our roads and signage, plus language incompatibility, are a danger to all driving Americans.

THE REAL TRUTH
THIS IS JUST THE "TIP" OF THE ICEBERG what we are witnessing is the global resettlement project of the United Nations - thousands of African Muslims and at least 7,000 Iraqis have been "resettled" in the U.S. Remember the immigrants in the fire in N.Y.? Illegal African Muslims - they have now been granted citizenship status - the reason this is being done is because REAL Americans will resist the establishment of the North American Union, and the United Nations Agenda 21 dream of a godless utopia of the Elite, for the Elite, and by the Elite, where all men are endowed by the ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT with whatever rights the slave masses are deemed worth of by the International Courts who have banished the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (just like most of our politicians) in favor of International law.
Ron Paul, Independent Representative from Texas has been trying to move legislation to get us out of the UN. Do your representatives support Ron Paul - fighting immigration is whacking at the leaves the root is in the United Nations!

To yuzzy
With all due respect to Representative Tancredo, I believe that the only candidate who can do the right thing on Immigration is Duncan Henter, He has been on the border problem since 1988. He knows it's more than a border problem; that the Dread October plague has encroached on every Unites States political division. Ask Wilmar, Minnesota. Check Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Worland, Wyoming can tell you true horrors. Anyplace, America is paying the price of Illegal Immigration. Mr. Tancredo credibly castigates the problem. President Bush welcomes it. Duncan Hunters faces and fixes problems. He stays the course on this one and given the power of the Presidency, he can change things for the better.

Mexican truckers
Wait until some of the mexican truckers start having accidents that result in the deaths of americans. Hmmmmm.....let me see.....how is that going to work. First, the feds will come rushing to the aid of the trucker to make sure that he is protected and recieves first class medical care (at our expense) if he is injured. Second, the police will make sure that he is not held responsible for the accident even if he/she caused it. The police will report something like this....."we are not allowed to ask the driver what his nationalality is or his name because he is protected by the civil rights bill". Third, you will be promptly notified by your insurance that you will have to pay your deductible due to the uninsured driver. You think this is funny? Wait and see folks.

I can't believe Bush is doing this to our country and our people. I can remember when people use to call me nuts on the boards when I posted information about the SPP and the North American Union. Is it starting to make any sense to you now sheeple? Jeez, I hope so.

Reasons this is a bad idea
For more info from truckers' points of view and why those reasons affect all of us go here http://www.ooida.com/Documents/Press_Releases/Mex_border_wrong.html

An Utter Disgrace
President Bush slobbers before some slimy Latin-American dictators and assures them that he will ram through an immigration policy that benefits them despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans and probably close to 100% of his base voters oppose it. This may be an all-time low.
Maybe its just me but isn't President Bush starting to remind you of President Charles Logan on last season's "24?" When I think that I did everything I could to help this fool get re-elected, I could kick myself.
I won't be fooled again however. We all know that the Democrats stand for nothing. I still expect a little more from Republicans (although lately I'm not sure why.) I will not support any Republican in 2008 who does not state unequivocably that he will close our borders and will totally oppose any amnesty. I absolutely do not trust McCain, Romney or Guiliani in this regard. (Guiliani did a great job as Mayor. However NYC was a sanctuary city for illegals under his administration.) I still am not sure about Gingrich or Thompson. The Republican who puts his hand on the bible and swears to oppose illegal immigration is the one who will get my vote.

I JUST SENT TANCREDO 10 BUCKS...
If the man is true to his word, he may be our last best hope.

Attention Grabber
There is one last hope to save our country from the illegal invaders. To date, neither Congress nor the White House seem interested in what most Americans have to say on this matter. You want to grab their attention? Throw your Tax Returns in the Boston Harbor!

Our government has already set a precedent allowing 15 million law breakers to escape punitive action. So how about 15 million tax payers dropping their 1040s in the shredder instead of the mail box. Is that illegal? Who cares? We know they don't. We already know that our federal, state, and local governments are willing to look the other way when immigration laws are broken, so tell me, why should they be concerned about another 15 million people breaking the tax laws?

Maybe it's too late for this year, but if 15 million Americans claimed maximum exemptions on their W-4 in 2007 and decreased payroll deductions with the intent to not file in 2007, I'm sure that would make them sit up and listen. There aren't enough IRS agents in the country to throw everyone in jail. Some people might call this extortion. I prefer to call it Tough Love. If your "kids" don't do their chores, you cut off their allowance. So if our politicians don't do their job (i.e., uphold our immigration laws), we cut off their funding.

BrianR
Brian, yes in some places they specify, "alien", however, they do not in ALL places. That's what I meant when I said it was too loosely worded.

Check this out: http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2006/10/02/does-the-military-commission-act-apply-to-us-citizens/

Cato admits that Americans may be imprisoned under this act, but say that we could not be tried under the act. That is true, from what I have gleaned. Americans would be tried under our own court system.

Cato mentions that Americans would be subject to the habeas corpus challenge. When would this challenge happen? Here's the thing, Brian... if an American is arrested as an enemy combatant, habeas corpus automatically goes out the window, so when and how is it that an American has the opportunity to prove that they are American and therefore have habeas corpus returned to them? You know as well as I, that people have been imprisoned for years in the so-called secret prison camps, before they were brought to trial.

I hope I have explained this well enough. Do you get my point?

yuzzy
I agree with you, but it's not the time to give up, it's the time for us to get really serious about stopping this BS.

Mex. Trucks will cost us all...
When unsafe Mexican trucks and their drivers fill our highways, auto insurance rates will go sky high, like health care costs have gone up dramatically with the waves of illegals coming into the country. Who will you sue and how when a Mexican driver wipes out your $300,000 RV? Also, with the raise in the volume of narcotics smuggled in comes a rise in addiction which will cost us more billions to combat.
Look forward to road bullying by huge 18 wheelers over shoe box size American vehicles. This is somewhat common now but will be much worse with Mexican drivers. Take a motor trip down a Mexican highway sometime. Leave a will!

Mexican truckers tend to convoy. Ever tried to pass 20 big, slow, nose to tail, rigs on a long hill?
How will the various states highway patrol get fines paid from Mexican truck drivers who simply won't show up for court and won't be extradited?
In the end, all of the above, plus the putting out of business of thousands of independent truckers will pretty much destroy our somewhat safe and cheap system of interstate cartage and civilian travel. This move by the Bush administration is just another example of the American taxpayer being forced to subsidize big business. The interstate highway system belongs to us! Not big industry. Do ya believe that? Ya do? I got as bridge in Brooklyn...
Another downside will be the end of our cross country pleasure trips. Private vehicle driving on the interstates (as mentioned above)will be like riding a skateboard in an elephant herd. Come to think of it, it's kinda like that now!
It's a bad deal for the US. But, like it or not the people of the United States are being forced slowly and incrementally to accept a North American free trade zone and open borders. Socialism follows. You will not like it!
The planned failure of our immigration policy; the coming complete sell out by the government in giving amnesty (and welfare benefits) to 30 million illegals and 80 million of their extended family in Mexico and Mexican take-over of our interstate highways are just steps along the way as we lose our country through the efforts of both political parties and the wealthy industrialists who own them.
And you were worried about Iran?
So long free America, hello forced paternal socialism. It's been a blast!

Jobs Americans Won't Do
I guess that we now will have to add truck driving to leaf-blowing and residential construction as jobs that Americans won't do.

I know that a US President can be impeached and removed from office.....but I haven't been able to determine if a President can be recalled - can he? Are there federal regulations against it?

Seeds of destruction sown long ago
The Constitutional Republic of the USA has been under serious assault since its' conception.

The greatest victories against US came in the beginning of the last century and progressed apace though the FDR administration where the seeds planted in the Fed. Reserve and FIT amendments began bearing their evil fruit.

We are no longer a Constitutional Republic.

We are, even by the most liberal definition of the term, a socialist state and GWB, for whom I voted for twice, has done everything in his power to further this trend.

I too once said, "Thank G-d GW was in the White house at 9/11 and not AlBore." But since we have had the revelations that the Clinton WH withheld intel concerning jihadists, I now no longer feel that 9/11 was an inevitability, as the intel would have remained intact and passed on to a Clinton friendly administration.

Concerning free enterprise, Adam Smith would not recognize the state of corporate citizenship today. His seminal work The Wealth of Nations and the concept of the 'invisible hand' has ceased to be.

I voted for Bush twice....
But I now believe the President has lost his mind. Should we have another 9/11 to boost his ratings? The worst/most Liberal Democrats could not be doing a better job in destroying this country! The time is running out to save what is left of this country. There is no hope on the horizon. The only choices remaining are BAD or WORSE. Goodbye great USA, you were great for a hundred years until the socialist idiots in government decided to ruin a country founded by people that wanted less government. Now every aspect of every life is run by bigger and bigger and more government. We have lost. The best is gone. RIP USA

Sammy
What shocks me the most is how the people running around calling themselves conservative, even on this board, go to great lengths to support Bush and try to do their best to rationalize what he is doing with the illegal aliens and the Mexican government. Furthermore, most won't even face the fact that some of our public servants, including Bush, have sold out our country's sovereignty to a North American Union. As time goes by, they have to work harder and harder to rationalize, because enough information has been released through FOIA that makes it quite apparent what is going on. Still they refuse to face it.

If we can't even awaken our conservative brothers and sisters, I don't have a lot of hope we can stop this whole thing. I never thought I'd see the day that conservatives would allow themselves to be so brainwashed that they preferred to pledge allegiance to government, instead of our Constitution and our country.

You Said It Charlie
That's exactly right. The big money players in the GOP who are deciding the front runners will only support those who won't get in the way of the cheap labor express.
The Republican Party under GWB seems intent on political suicide. Pandering to citizens of other countries illegally in our country while telling us we must be vigilantes if we object to illegal aliens ignoring our borders and laws. Mel Martinez is RNC Chairman to ensure an open borders candidate in '08. The cheap labor express will be kept running, regardless of the consequences, to party or country. GOP-RIP

merry_go_boy
That is a real problem. Americans don't learn from past mistakes because they have no knowledge of history. I bet the majority of voters never heard of Goldwater.

Fool me once (Bush I), shame on you. Fool me twice (Bush II), shame on me. Fool me three times (Giuliani), shame on the American people.

Pay attention. Giuliani will continue the open-border policy. The Big Money Three are already bought and paid for.

You got what you deserve
Look for more deaths on the nation's highways. Insurance premiums will go up. Taxes will be increased to cover road wear and tear. We will pay more for gas. Americans will get sick more often due to added air pollution. We will spend less time with our family because more time will be spent in traffic jams.

I don't want to hear any of you complaining if you voted to give Bush two terms after seeing his father derail the conservative movement.

Imperial George 2nd.
George Bush has declared himself Emperor of the USA and told the american citizen that they still may vote but he, and he alone will determine the course of our country.
I do believe that Imperial George is positioning himself to become a contender for the leader of a North American Union, and if he attains it will declare the capitol of said Union to be Mexico City.
If he was bought and paid for by the Saudis, Big Oil, Cheap Labor, and Big Industry then he is sure doing his best to see that they get their moneys worth.
I never thought I would ever in my lifetime wish to see a president of the United States removed from office but I was wrong.
I can still picture him on the campaign trail in 2004 professing to be something he wasn't and performing in a hypocritical manner and asking the people " Who Do You Trust To Keep You Safe ".
I wonder if Zell Miller still believes in him ?

Bush's Obsession
Once again, we see Bush's obsession with caving in to Mexico. I sometimes wonder if on a previous trip, the Mexican government gave Bush the "Manchurian Candidate" treatment or perhaps replaced him with an evil clone. When I think of how happy I was the day after election day 2004 I could kick myself. I even contributed a few bucks, here and there, to the Swift Boat Veterans to help Bush defeat Kerry. I should have just flushed the money down the toilet.
Allowing more of these invaders into the country and then legalizing them is not only the number one menace to our children's future, it is not even good politics. These invaders, once given amnesty, will become members of whatever political party gives them muy welfare, medicaid, food stamps, SSI, etc. All Bush and the others RINOs are doing is giving the Dems future electoral majorities.
I walk around my local Costco and it is like I am in the United Nations, every language under the sun: Spanish, Russian, Chinese, etc. And these other boobs are talking to their young children in their foreign tongues. So we will have children born in this country demanding bilingual education. And the taxpayers will pay for this, just like all the other garbage.
It is obvious to me to me that today's politicians will do nothing about this problem. We all know the Democrats stand for nothing but getting re-elected. We expect better of the Republicans, but we have not been getting it. I do not trust any of the three Republican front runners to do anything about this issue.
Eventually, the American people may have to decide what they want to do about this problem.

Impeachment !!!
The problem I see in attempting to impeach president George Bush is that most of the members of the House and just about all of the U.S. senators seem to be in bed with him and the Cheap Labor, the Big Money interests on the Sell Out of America, so where would you get enough votes for impeachment.
We are well on the way to losing our liberty and rights afforded under the costitution, and are quickly becoming a country ruled by the wealthy, and landed.
Who will lead the fight for the next Magna Carta ???

MEXICAN TRUCKS, AMERICAN ROADS

As soon as I learned about this farce, I wrote to my U.S. lawmakers, along with a letter to the editor, about it all.

Doesn't anybody realize that these are American roads? American taxpayers built them. American taxpayers maintain them.

Who will pay when these Mexican drivers simply decide to vamoose and leave a truck where it is and go blend in with the other 14,000,000 illegals? Who will pay when these Mexican drivers kill people on the roads? Who will pay when Mexican drivers cannot speak or read English?

I suppose it is too late to complain to Washington. It appears to be a done deal.

Fast, too. And they called Bill "Slick." (Before I start getting hate comments, I still do call him "Slick Willy.")

The bigger question
Are we stopping the Canadians from entering?

Question for Anyone Who Can Answer
Why is it that this website is stocked to the brim with rabid free-marketers who name-call and practically threaten violence at any perceived attempt to question government interference with supply and demand, yet none of these free-marketers seem to show up to defend the idea of dropping impediments to trade in the Americas (that is, dropping annoyances like national borders and safety regulations)?

For the record, I think government regulation of the economy is absolutely justified in any collection of people that styles itself a civilization and, if I could, I would build a wall on the southern border so high that even airplanes would have to fly around it.

Unions WIll Do Nothing
What makes you think the Unions will do anything?

They do not have to check with their membership before they endorse a candidate, even one as lame as Kerry.

They may lament, publicly, this opening of the border, but you can bet they will not act to stop it, with the possible exception of raising union dues, ostensibly to fight this in "court".

Yeah, right. Kangaroo court. Simply put,

WE ARE SOLD OUT. And the Union leadership is in the back pocket of Politicians and Business Moguls.

Only way to stop this is VOTE THEM OUT IN '08 !
ALL of them, vote against the incumbent no matter the (D) or (R) after their name.

Nothing else will slow or stop this leaching of our rights.

M14 - a lot of weight to lug around...
...not to mention the weight of the ammo. But in the right hands, a fine piece.

Mussolini

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power." Benito Mussolini

That is what we have here: Corporatism, the merger of Big Business with Big Government (both Democrat and Republican) under the guise of "free trade" agreements. Under these agreements, written by lobbyists from Big Business, Big Business wins, the medium-sized businesses get gobbled up by Big Business and small business is squashed by Big Government regulations written for and by Big Business. This in no way constitutes a "free enterprise" system, it is a government subsidized system and it is facist to the core.

DRUGS
and how long will it take the drug-lords to cash in? It's not just a bad idea, it's an unpatriotic idea. Remember how Mussolini defined "fascism"? He said it should properly be called corporatism...

the pilot program
Whenever government starts talking pilot program, watch your wallets and your land. It's that old "nose of the camel under the tent" routine. The Bureau of Land Management almost always starts it's initiatives with a "pilot program"...That's usually because they can't sell the idea legally. Watch your wallets.

GunnyG RE: post at 4:58
Sad to say... Many states are making it legal for felons to vote, even red states. In one neighborhood in my town the most popular campaign sign last November was *Most Felons can vote! Call ...*

Mexico, Canada or Africa, It matters not
To the best of my knowledge, the Massachusetts Bay Colony was the first ‘government/state’ in the US. It was a Merchant State then and America remains a Merchant State to this date. Any pipe dreams about anything else are just that.

Business is what drives us and rules us. If you still have not come to terms with that you will really be upset over the next few years as companies like Halliburton move first their headquarters and eventually their charter to Dubai or other countries and the exchange medium shift is completed from the dollar to the Euro. There is no loyalty in business. They believe their only loyalty is to their stockholders. Anyway, you have not been loyal to American companies, why should they be loyal to you.

Hundreds of millions in tax revenues will go and I believe many more companies will follow. This is the new world order, the global economy. Get used to our equality with third world countries. No body of people have ever been made equal at the top. It can only be at the bottom. You have to take it from one in order to give it to another.

America’s soul was bartered away long, long ago and it does not matter who you vote for, the result will be the same.

The Silver Lining
Perhaps this latest affront to US sovereignty will finally enliven a liberal constituency against the illegal invasion -- union members. Why union members and environmentalists have been so silent while the illegals take their jobs and overpopulate our country is something I have never understood. I agree on very little with either of these groups, but I am more than willing to accept them as fellow defenders in this struggle for the identity of our country.

What border?
There's a border?

Impeach
This is why the politicians (in general) want to write even more restrictive gun laws.

With all that we, the people that voted for him, are saying about George Bush do you think others inside the Beltway don't hear us?
They know, that we know the lack of protecting our national sovereignty is an act of treason.
If the Dems really wanted to impeach him right now a majority of Americans would welcome the idea (not JUST moonbats from Kims neighborhood either).
This issue of the truckers and, the amnesty we all know IS COMING I think was the final straw for alot of former Bush defenders.

But (listen up moonbats) the Dems do not act because they are IN ON IT!! Both parties instead manufacture differences between themselves and, their constituents go beserk about what 'the other side' is doing.

Their hope is to keep this game going long enough to get the firearms out of the homes and hands of the citizenry. If they fail at that the 2nd amendments 'militia' will rise up and take the tyrannical government to task.

What I want to know is this...if an amnesty is given to 20 million people won't that effectively make this a one party system?

Is there a way to rescind the amnesty?
Executive order perhaps?
I do not have the confidence that the same Congressional players who impose an amnesty on us would allow a rollback question on a ballot if that were even possible.

Mexican Truck Drivers
If the Unions are against Mexican truck access to the US, then I am all for it. About time someone stood up to the unions and hit 'em between the eyes. The Mafia controlled unions are probably using THEIR trucks to transport drugs.

Bush's disgrace is the giveaway of Ameri
Bush has been a terrible let down. In bed with the Saudis he encouraged their building mosques that bring forth suicide bombers and anti-American propagandda. Remember that he allowed ALL Saudi's to leave after 911 while American citizens were grounded. Destroying America by bowing to Mexican business money is the next step in his private empire building. No border security, encouraging terror by Saudis is the Bush legacy.

Mexican Invasion
This is all part of the Administration's efforts to sell out our national sovereignty by opening up our borders and creating a North American Union. This is really not a conspiracy theory, just crazy enough to sound like one. We have apparently lost our seven year battle to keep America from being flooded with thousands of Mexican trucks, driven by drivers who do not speak English, do not have CDLs, and drive like maniacs (on more than one occasion in laredo I have had them attempt to come around me while I was negotiating a turn in an intersection; obviously two trucks cannot do this because the trailers follow short; the mere fact that they would even attempt it is proof that they are insane behind the wheel). They drive the worn out carcasses that American trucking companies have wrung out every last mile they could before shipping them south of the border (where we thought we'd never see them again). And who knows how many more drugs and illegals will be flooding our country in these trucks?

Our interstate and highway infrastructure, including bridges, tunnels, etc. that we have paid for with our tax dollars, form the circulatory system of our economy, and our transportation system the lifeblood that runs though it. Anyone who understands business knows that the faster a business (or economy) can "turn" its investment, the more wealth (jobs, benefits, etc.) is created. Several economists attribute the "coming of age" of the U.S. transportation industry as a major determinant in the economic explosion that has taken place in recent years. Expedited services, starting with FedEx; JIT (just in time) services getting parts to assembly lines at the precise moment they are needed (saving millions in warehousing costs), and satellite logistics control, are a few examples of a highly efficient transportation industry greasing our economic growth machine.

But this same transportation industry walks a very precarious tightrope at the mercy of wildly fluctuating fuel costs. In order to have a healthy, stable economy; a healthy, stable transportation industry is essential. As of three years ago, 18,000 loaded trailers (far more than we have personnel to monitor) came across the border weekly in Laredo alone. It is most likely more than that now, especially when including Brownsville, El Paso, Del Rio, and other border towns. There is probably no better way to completely destabilize our economy than to completely destabilize our transportation system with an influx of thousands of Mexican trucks. I am a free market guy in general, but we need a level playing field, and a little less lunacy. Tim

Oh, yeah, I LIKED that .30 cal.

I never was too big on the .223. When I got to Nam, becauase of the type of unit I was in we could choose from a pretty broad selection of weapons. After about a week in-country, I turned in my 16 for a 14. Never regretted it.

Nowdays, a lot of Spec Ops units are going back to using the 14. Time-tested, tried and proven.

BrianR, and all who have lugged weapons
To all you old salts that carried that M-60 around vs. the M249, consider yourself lucky. I wouldn't give up an M-60 for ten SAW's. if I remember correctly, they're French made as it is. I guess it's true what they say... your weapon was made by the lowest bidder. They were just beginning to phase out the M-60s when I got out... at least in the Corps. The Army likely got rid of theirs way before we did. Probably gave their old ones to the Jarheads.

BrianR
I had the same trouble earlier getting on Gunny's blog. And when I did it posted double. Couldn't get on yours at all.

Make It Clear

We need to make it clear to all that illegal residence in the U.S. will no longer be permitted. The federal government should ask state and local government to cooperate in ensuring only citizens are able to receive any benefits of any kind. Localities are already enacting measures and everyone should be encouraged to require proof of legal residency or citizenship to obtain drivers licenses, get a job, rent an apartment, get a bank account, obtain loans or credit cards, etc. American citizens do this every day. We need reliable secure I.D.s. If we are ever going to solve this, we need to do whatever we can to make it impossible to BE an illegal alien.

Of Note:
They use issues like the ID card to get us
to fight amoung ourselfs as they go about
the evil.

One thing at a time.
No Amnasy.
A fence on the Mexican Border.

Then debate the ID card crap.

Of Note:
Down here in Texas last week someting of note;

Out west of Ft. Worth Tx, near Weatherford Tx, in the deep gas Barrnet Shale, a large number of the scab wage slave illegal Mexicans without ss#s ect went on a sit down, quit work over pay
and working conditions, $10.00 per hr. is all they were getting paid, and that for welding the high pressure gas lines there. Thing is one company Pump Eq. is useing so many illegals and their welds are so poor, they are haveing the real American welders come along behind and fix the bad welds,,, 70 to 80 % have to be redone.

Soon this kind of low standards and evil is going to casue a high pressure pipe line to explode, ten years from now all these no good
welds are going to be a real danger...

Lydia
The sheetrock industry in my state is about 90% Hispanic. A sad state of affairs but as long as UNCLAIMED money from illegals pours into Fed coffers, you can forget about anything getting done!

Statesman Lite
Bush has really been a disappointment on the border issue. It is inconceivable that any American President would be this sold out to the Mexicans.

Is there anyone left who will do the right thing for us? Or are we doomed to be overrun by the Visigoths?

Grumpy
Heck, I had to show a VALID passport, a license, and a SS card to get my current job. A National ID would cut down on my wallet litter! haha.

Gunny
Dude. I can't get into your blog -- or even my own -- AGAIN today.

This site isn't working for sh*t again.

I've never understood
I've never understood the objection to a National ID card. As Virginia Patriot pointed out we already have the SS card with a nation-wide unique number. I don't feel my rights are being abridged when I have to show it to get a job. I don't feel like an oppressed peasant when I have to show my driver's license to a motel clerk to get a room, or if I want to cash a check, etc.

Gunny: well, duh!
Ma Deuce?

50 BMG?

Ya think?!?

Virginia Patriot
I have to agree with that. A National ID cardis like putting a lock on your door. It sucks when you forget your keys but it does well to keep the scum OUT. ANOTHER added benefit is that it'll make it nearly impossible for the Dhimmicrats to rig an election by buying the votes of ex-cons, felons, illegals, etc.

A National ID card may be necessary
As one who jealously guards his liberties, I have come to the conclusion that a national ID card may be necessary to establish who is here legally and who is not. The current administration has purposely decreased enforcement to let the situation get so out of hand that they think we will be forced into another amnesty. Amnesty would be disastrous. Sorting out the citizens from legal and illegal aliens will take time and resources. We already have a national ID card of sorts with our Social Security cards. My proposal would be to make the Social Securtiy card tamper-proof and difficult to counterfeit. No valid SS card, no job. Without the ability to work, many will go home on their own. Employers skirting the system would be easier to prosecute.

BrianR
But NOTHING beats the M2 set on "kick azz!"

Gunny
No doubt; I loved the sound of that old pig on rock-and-roll!

It sounded like... victory (to paraphrase Col Kilgore).

On my way over to your blog.

Liberty
There have been "rolling" wiretaps since the 80's and it was used to pursue Mobsters and Drug dealers. If you're not targeted for an investigation, why would the Feds bother you? Not to mention that I travel a lot and I hear more information out of the mouths of babbling idiots EVERY DAY as they yammer into their cell phones than the Feds could ever hear, I'm betting!

As far as a National ID, Lincoln, a conservative, suspended Habeus Corpus during the Civil War, and again, if you're legit, what's the beef? In the performance of my daily duties, I get a securty investigation every five years...so what. If it keeps the Illegal Aliens, aka Human Locusts from doing business and living here, I'm all for it. And I'm further to the Right than Genghis Khan.

BrianR
Having humped that 23 pound "hog" I agree. However, when it came down to putting out rounds, only the MG42 did a better job.

As far as the Illegals go, did you catch my article on the Fed Trial in Hazelton?

GOD HELP US if they get overturned by a scumbag judge and the ACLU punks.

To Liberty
I'm puzzled. You wrote that the Military Commissions Act "allows Americans to be picked up and thrown in a secret prison."

Here is the pertinent section of that act:

"Sec. 948c. Persons subject to military commissions
Any alien unlawful enemy combatant is subject to trial by military commission under this chapter. "

That's the entire section. I didn't edit it or leave anything out. How does this pertain to Americans, when it clearly limits jurisdiction to "alien unlawful enemy"?

Further, from Wikipedia: "While formally opposed to the Act, Human Rights Watch has also concluded that the new law limits the scope of trials by military commissions to non-U.S. citizens including all legal aliens"

At least someone is angry enough.
Here is at least one guy who calls this treason what it is.

http://www.tancredo4prez.blogspot.com/

Hunter a conservative?
- Sponsored the Military Commission Act, that allows Americans to be picked up and thrown in a secret prison.

- Voted for unconstitutional wiretapping

- Voted for the unPatriot Act and its renewal

- Voted to require Americans to carry a National ID card.

This doesn't sound like any conservative I ever heard of.

BTW, Sawgunner
Back in ancient times, when I was in the Army, we didn't call our squad automatic weapon a "saw". It was the M-60, and we called it the "pig".

A little lore for you there.

Zeb, sawgunner, Muscat
Saw: I'm proud of you. Welcome back.

Zeb: Of course I know who Hunter is; good man. I could vote for him easily. Maybe once Giuliani/McCrazy-fatigue sets in, we can see some REAL conservative candidates, like Hunter or Thompson.

Muscat: Please don't be offended if you're a Buchanan man, but I think the popular perception is that he's a quack with a few good ideas. He's also run a couple of pretty terrible campaigns.

Sorry
Sorry for the typo in preceding post.

How
How can Southern Californians not know of Duncan Hunter's long fight against illegal immigration?
About his walking the walk he talks. Tancredeo has been making noise about the problem, and for that, I'm grateful. But Hunter has even gotten a short piece of wall built (or fence). And he is trying to get the entire southern border fenced.
Concerned citizens across the nation (for it is a nationwide infiltration) are watching who does what, who proposes what. Yet Duncan Hunter is not even mentioned in the comments preceding mine? I was glad to learn that longterm Copngressman Henry Hyde, now retired, has endorsed Duncan Hunter's candidacy. Nor will his be the last endorsement. Hunter-Palin would be a winning ticket!

Mark my words...
...Americans are going to die because of this. Here in Southern California we've all seen how the illegals drive, and we've already seen lethal accidents involving truck drivers from south of the border.

I can't fathom how the government we voted for can do something like this.

Sawgunner
Thank You For Your Service.

Unequal enforcement
I suppose we can expect the same level of enforcement for Mexican Trucks vs American Trucks comparable to the enforcement of labor, employment and tax laws for illegal alien Mexicans vs. Native American Citizens.

Bush keeps trying to make it more difficult to retain republican presidential leadership all the time.

Anybody like Pat Buchanan?
I think only Tom Tankredo is outspoken about sercuring our borders and having Americans do work in America----------for a living wage.
Some of the big box Stores may prefer Pedro Chavez or Maria Estradovos, but I see no reason to pass over able bodied Americans who will work "for a living wage".

BrianR
Ha ha ha...excellent point!!

And to think I was off fighting to keep the Iraqi borders from being illegally crossed. But I guess I should be glas that Bush at least had his eye on SOMEBODY's national soverignty.

I would have thought that after he had been elected president, somebody might have at least had the courtesy to tell Bush which country he was elected president of. He obviously doesn't seem to know.

If Clinton was
our first Black President, then I guess Bush is our first Mexican one.

I agree with Chertoff
"Texas doesn't need a fence."

It needs a wall, a BIG, THICK WALL! Use the Rio Grande as a moat in front of it too!

Last Stop
GW's last stop on his trip to unite the Americas, you know the one where the rioters are burning our flag, is Mexico.

Maybe the President should do a ride-along in one of those trucks... after dropping the load of illegals and drugs they'll be smuggling across the border GW can stay on all the way to DC.
I'll bet he'd change his mind about allowing them on the roads here if he did that. If they make it to DC without killing somebody that is.

Yeah
Bush seems to have totally forgotten that his constituency, at least in theory, lives north of the Rio Grande.

This is spitting in the face of Labor
I am suprised that the Teamster's union doesn't for once act like gangsters in response to this clear attemt to neuter their shop!
For once I'd be happy to see them rough up the illegal/usurping mexican labor force.
After all, it is them stealing wages from the US independent and Teamster Drivers.
This is sheer madness and a flagrant assault on Union Labor contracts and all that they have struggled for in the past 50 years.
We all need to keep our digital cameras at side and survey the new Habla Espanol fifth column drivers with their inferior trucks. Make it your job to expose and photograph every and any mishap caused by these illegal drivers.
The greatest crime is that they are even here in the first place.
Why should Americans pay taxes into such a bankrupt system that does nada to provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare of Americans?
Perhaps if Dubya loves Mexico so much, we ought to buy him a one - way ticket south.

Hasta Luego, El Presidente!

Well
This is simply another reason so many people, especially conservatives, are so fed up with the Republican party, especially as typified by Bush and his ilk and cronies.

Here in SoCal, we're flooded with illegals driving around without insurance, ready to run across the border to prosecutorial safety if they're in enough trouble, such as a fatal accident.

Though obviously not fatal, I've personally been involved in an accident in which the other driver was an uninsured Mexican national who headed south. Guess who had to pick up the tab for my repairs?

Now we can add a flood of Mexican trucks to the already awful mix on the SoCal freeway system; trucks which may or may not have had safety inspections; may or may not be insured; may or may not have well-trained and rested drivers; drivers who may or may not meet requirements American drivers must meet; may or may not be filled with even MORE illegals coming across the border; may or may not be carrying drugs.

Yeah. I'm sanguine.

SOLD OUT
We are being sold out by our own government. Wake up America while you still have a country. This is a first step in merging us into a North American Union. As with illegal immigration, we the people of the United States will pay the true cost of this ill-concieved plan. In addition to the illegal alien criminals and drunk drivers killing and maiming American citizens, now we can look forward to unsafe Mexican trucks being driven by low paid Mexican drivers putting us all at risk everywhere in this once great country.

Trust the GOP?
This grand experiment of government of the people, by the people, for the people is being usurped by government of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations.
The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

These next 2 years are vital to the future of this country. For 2007 we must make certain that McCain/Kennedy or whatever it's called this year does not pass the House. The President will sign it, followed by the Totalization Treaty with Mexico. In 2008 we must make the candidates address border security and immigration enforcement.
20-30 million citizens of other countries are in our country illegally, 55% from Mexico, most of the rest from other Central and South American countries. Let's not ignore the leftward voting trends of these countries. It is notable that they picked May Day, an old communist day of celebration for their marches.

Most polls show at least half of the American citizens of Hispanic descent want the borders and laws enforced. Republicans will not win by alienating their current voters to get 40% of a new small block that will grow very large, very fast if amnesty is granted. That will grow the Democrats vote larger and faster as the influx increases exponentially as the result of another amnesty. It will spell the end of the Republican Party. The people who used to vote Republican will stop voting or form a new party. Conservatives will lose political influence and we will slide inexorably towards socialism (it has already started). Most of what you hear about this issue is political propaganda that tries to convince you that what you know is wrong is right, including on Fox News. The big money players are all on board the cheap labor express, they care not that American citizens do not want another amnesty. We know the last one resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens and a general disregard of our laws. The next one will be equally successful.

We need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform. We need to restore respect for the law and the faith of the American people that their government is not selling them out. Amnesty for the illegal aliens is also amnesty for the corrupt companies who have been employing them. Money trumps everything, including love of country. Multi-nationals have no loyalty to country by definition, they see us as a market, not a nation. They see people as workers, documented or undocumented, no difference. If they can't send the work to where the labor is cheaper, then they want to bring the cheap labor here. Citizenship is meaningless.

If we love our Constitution and our representative Republic and we intend to keep it we must not surrender our sovereignty or abandon the rule of law. Profits must not supercede security. We should not create a new path to citizenship. We have a path to citizenship, illegal aliens have ignored it and bad choices do have consequences.

GOP-RIP

President opens border to Mexican trucks
