Senate Republicans should fend off U.N. feminist treaty

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The sweetest Valentine Republicans in the U.S. Senate could give to American women would be to announce that they will filibuster until Christmas if Senate Democrats try to ratify the offensive United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

Signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, and repeatedly promoted by President Bill Clinton and U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., it has wisely never been ratified.

The notion is downright ridiculous that American women (the most fortunate class of people who ever lived) should submit to a treaty that dictates uniform rules for 185 other nations, all of which treat women worse than the United States. Ratification of conventions would be craven kowtowing to radical feminists, exceeded only by the treaty's unlimited capacity for legal mischief. Article 1 purports to abolish discrimination against women "in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field." What other fields do feminists have in mind?

Article 2 reiterates that the treaty would "eliminate discrimination against women by any person, organization or enterprise," including "laws, regulations, customs and practices." Our "customs" should be none of our government's business, much less the business of the United Nations.

Article 3 would require the United States to pass new federal laws not only in political fields but also in "social, economic and cultural fields."

Article 5 would require the United States "to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women" and to "ensure" that we are following United Nations dictates about "family education."

Article 10 would make it a responsibility of the federal government to ensure "the elimination of any stereotyped concept of the roles of men and women at all levels and in all forms of education ... by the revision of textbooks and ... teaching methods."

We certainly don't want the U.N. to revise U.S. textbooks. Remember, feminists consider it a stereotype that children should be raised by a mother and father married to each other.

Article 11 would chain us to the feminist goal that wages should be paid on subjective notions of "equal value" (i.e., the discredited notion of "comparable worth") rather than on the free market or on U.S. legal standards of equal pay for equal work. It would also require the United States to "establish" another longtime feminist goal, a federal "network of child care facilities."

Article 12 would guarantee "access to health care services, including those related to family planning," and Article 16 would require the United States to allow women "to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children." The United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women's committee in charge of compliance has interpreted this feminist jargon to mean approval of abortion, and has pressured 44 nations to legalize or increase access to abortion.

The monitoring committee in charge of "progress," which is created by Article 17, consists of "23 experts," on which the United States might some day have one vote out of 23. The current committee includes representatives from Algeria, Cuba and Bangladesh and a vice chairman from Zimbabwe.

No doubt the "experts" will always be "experts" in feminist ideology and tactics. The United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women's international "experts" have already issued negative reports about the practices of countries that were foolish enough to ratify the treaty.

The committee criticized Ireland for "promoting a stereotypical view of the role of women in the home and as mothers," Belarus for "such symbols as a Mother's Day" because it promotes "a negative cultural stereotype," and Slovenia because fewer "than 30 percent of children under 3 years of age were in formal day care." The committee recommended "the decriminalization of prostitution in China."

Article 16 also orders a massive interference with U.S. laws as well as with federal-state balance of powers by obligating the federal government to take over all family law, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and marital property.

When Edmund S. Muskie was Secretary of State, he issued a memo stating that the treaty completely fails to take into account "the division of authority between the state and federal governments in the United States." His memo also admitted that this treaty applies "to private organizations and areas of personal conduct not covered by U.S. law."

United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women would give busybody global bureaucrats and activist judges extraordinary powers to revise U.S. laws, education and customs to comport with radical feminist ideology.

If President Bush wants to re-establish friendly connections with pro-family voters, whom he conspicuously ignored in his State of the Union speech, he should unsign this Carter-signed U.N. Treaty just as he unsigned the Clinton-signed International Criminal Court Treaty.

As far as relocating the U.seless N.uthouse is concerned, I am inclined to move them to Pelelieu (sp?); then when we thermonuke those sorry excuses for humanity there won't be much fallout over the civilized world.

*********************************

As you probably already suspect, the Left, in that charming Orwellian manner, have commandeered the term "family values" and twisted it to mean anything to do with social reingineering.

Twenty years ago, James Dobson and his organization Focus On The Family was having a tremendously positive impact on American culture, and the Left was all in a snit over it.

So what is a Stalinist to do?

Invent a modern version of "New Speak," of course.

So they started a campaign to insist that there are all kinds of familys, not just the traditional, nuclear family (one husband, one wife and a varying number of kids).

They insisted that it was mean to people who don't have both a mother and a father if you hold up the nuclear family as the ideal.

They also infiltrated Hollywood, attacking decent programs like "The Bill Cosby Show," claiming that it was an unattainable ideal, and that most homes were more like Rosanne's.

They lobbied and lobbied, while concurrently attacking any religiously based orgainzation that also expressed political opinions, effectively silencing Focus On The Family.

Funny how they didn't manage to silence the "Rainbow Push Coalition!"

The trouble with conservatives and particularly Christians is that they don't fight back. They let the Leftist propagand machine roll right over them and do nothing about.

This UN treaty is just more of the same. It is capable of growing very long roots and of casting a very long shadow.

If we don't stand up for REAL family values, who will?

UNCEA FDAW
My in depth analysis and respose is summed up thusly: F*** THAT!!!

If Hillary gets the nomination, Let's draft Phyllis as a counter.

ReggiePerrin
Of course, you're right; nuking the UN wouldn't solve anything, and would be a waste of a perfectly good nuke.

But the emotional satisfaction!.......

Schlafly still a Champion for Women
I Thank Phyllis Schlafly for all the good she has done for Women's rights, despite many women too ignorant or unaware to know it. As I remember, Mrs. Schlafly practically snuffed out the devious, malevolent anti-women ERA Amendment single-handed. As the first women to attend that particular Law School (Harvard?) she was deemed "brilliant". American woman don't realize how fortunate we truly are, much less do we give credit due to dedicated courageous Leaders like Phyllis Schlaly. As usual, this deceitful UN Control is the typical "one-worlder" Bureacratic "double-speak" that Socialist's always use to pull the wool over clueless non-thinking American's eyes.. "It sounds so good it must be good for Me" duh... Wake Up! Just watch how those elitist, rich Old Liberal GALS's in the Congress & Media (empty Skirts) go for it, like morals mean anything to them, anyway. Unfortunately, we never know what side RINO Jorge Bush will take, anymore. He needs the Right pressure on him.

Get US OUT
We just need to get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN.

RelicMM
I agree with you about the UN, Relic. But, we have a number of traitors in our OWN party, don't you think? There are a lot of people going around these days calling themselves conservative, when they actually share very little in common with conservative ideals. This doesn't even touch on all the unconstitutional legislation that has been passed under this administration and the illegal activities.

It's amazing what we all allow when we are scared.

Son's rights.....
Schafley needs to go home and make right with her gay son before she wags her finger at anyone else.

I've been sick of this old broad since..... since before I was an old broad.

UN is our enemy
The UN needs to go. They are more detrimental to the United States than I think anyone realizes.

They are NOT going to tell me how I can raise my family or take over the education of my family. It's garbage like this that makes me glad I've homeschooled for 17 years.

Thank you Phyllis Schlafly for once again pointing out the absurdity in our world.

UN
Why has it taken so long to identify and destroy our greatest enemy, the UN? The UN has accomplished absolutely nothing to ensure peace. The Democrat Party obviously learned nothing from the League of Nations debacle or from the political wars without victory that the UN has spawned. Why do Democrats now strive to corrupt and destroy the moral and Constitutional rights and responsibilities of American women? The American people had better come out of their 51% stupor and take back their nation from the corrosive actions of its conspiring traitors. American freedom is not free. It was purchased by the blood of patriots and will remain free only if we are all willing to fight to defend it and purge its traitors.

This is pitched as ...
Something good the US can export to other countries. Those citizens who support this thing don't realize that by signing it, we've given the UN control over US internal cultural norms. They see it somewhat like they see Kyoto. If the US signs on to it, we give it the weight of our military might and superpower bully pulpit. And, this treaty might be a good thing for some women in some countries. It's just a bad thing for US women who already have plenty of freedom.

Yes, this is one of those times when you should write your political representatives and make sure they know what you want them to do.

And, then, note how they vote!

Oop!
In the last paragraph, "even her at TH" should read even HERE at TH. Sorry it slipped past the spellchecker and I didn't double check.

Me a cowboy, me a cowboy, me a mexican cowboy.

Since the location of the UN in NYC has failed in its initial purpose (to be close enough to keep an eye on) I agree it should be relocated. But why put it somewhere where the enemy does not have to commute to the gang meeting, and you can’t keep an eye on it.

I think fiscal relocation is a better solution. Let the organization be self supporting rather than relying on the US for 25% of its funds.

The downside is that the crooks would simply come up with new and different scams (food for oil, opium, cocaine, arms, etc., etc.), but it would at least show them for what they are.

Nuking it would be nice, but absurd. That’s like flea powder for a rabid dog, and it just makes him all the more ornery.

Happy Jake
I’d agree with Mountain Rose, that this is a Trojan horse indeed. It’s being repeatedly offered as something of benefit, putatively to the oppressed women of America.

Mrs. Schlafly’s article illustrates, very elegantly, several key points to ponder:
1) How and why does this old chestnut of commufeminazipolitik keep arriving on the president’s desk for consideration?
2) Why has no-one asked, “If this proposal has been awaiting signature for thirty years, then surely with the passage of time, the feminists should either declare their efforts, since the proposal’s inception, to have made monumental advances, to be an abject failure, or to be inadequate to deal with the pea under their mattress?”
3) What is the engine of malcontent that drives some/many women in the most blessed nation on earth to complain incessantly and brazenly about things that women in other less fortunate countries would, and do, ridicule them for?
4) Who are the forces/powers to be that seek so earnestly to attain such trifling idiocy that they would sacrifice the sovereignty of their own nation. This has to suggest that the driving forces are not American in the true sense, and the plan is in fact a Trojan horse. Even a bird has sense enough not to soil its own nest.

Mrs. Schlafly’s has been on the political scene for much longer than many of us, even her at TH. She is indeed a visionary thinker whose track record not only proves her foresight out, but also the wisdom upon which it is based. Perhaps one of the greatest failings of these past two generations has been the rejection of the wisdom of age, experience and previous generations in an effort lend credence and absolution to a vacuous misspent youth.

Where are you? We could sure use your intake on this.

I'm thinking either Riyadh or Teheran. I don't want that bunch of insane assylum rejects to get a long stay on a tropical island if I have to sit through the traffic and weather in DC. Let them set up shop on the doorstep of one of their biggest allies.

Mountain Rose
I agree with you.

It's interesting how legislation is named to make it sound like it means one thing, when it actually is just the opposite.

I mean, how does it look when someone votes against "equal rights" for women? How about the "patriot act"? How about the "NA FREE TRADE agreement"?

None of these things have hardly one dang thing to do with the name of the bill. The Patriot Act is not patriotic. NAFTA is NOT free trade.

The Useless Nations...
... need to be relocated, ideally to someplace in Europe, or better still some remote island in the nether reaches of the Pacific. Perhaps on an island slated to be used for future nuclear weapons testing.

Going to all the Columnist of Town Hall.
So, you guys calim to be conservative's.

"Where's the beef", on the Border Patrol Officer Ramos getting railroaded and then beat all to
hell in a Federal Prision.

"Money cult at the top of the Republican Party got you under contract not to talk the truth."?

Mountain Rose
It's not a Trojan Horse. A Trojan Horse appears beneficial to the duped. This steaming, stinking pile of monkey leavings is obviously just another way to get the US Human Rights record scrutinized by Cuba, Zimbabwe, and Bangledesh, all well known paragons of justice and freedom. There is no benefit in it for anyone in this country, men, women, whatever (except, of course, the Annanophiles who see the UN as some benevolent mother who just wants to take care of all of us.)

Those people in the Useless Nonentity are absolutely, completely, 100%, and in all other ways insane.

For DBR
It is notable that the only fundamentalist Muslim state which DID NOT sign the treaty was Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. It has also been signed by India (where sex-selection abortions are RAMPANT in north, and even as far south as Maharashtra; while there ARE laws on the books banning these and some "feeder" practices, they are almost unenforced) and Red China (where one-child policy means many women are FORCED to undergo abortions--and many others are eliminated through sex-selection abortions).

Another Trojan Horse to stave off
Just like the ERA amendment (which we successfully defeated) and Title Nine (which we are stuck with), this is another attempt by the Left to control our culture and foist extremist notions down our throats.

I am eternally grateful to Phyllis Schlafly, who single-handedly lobbied against and defeated the insidious ERA, which would have opened up a PC can of worms, before the term PC had even been coined.

I have said this before, but Mrs. Schlafly pointed out that the ERA would open us up to things like mandatory co-ed bathrooms. At the time, everyone thought that was absurd, and she was laughed at.

But Mrs. Schlafly knew things about these Stalinst-style social engineers that the rest of us didn't. Her words turned out to be prophetic. Unisex bathrooms are one of the things that the Left is currently foisting upon society.

I used to work at a Fortune 500 company whose CEO seemed committed to all manner of leftist causes, and he tried to make us accept co-ed bathrooms. The women rebelled, ane the company was forced to put the bathrooms back like they were.

The current Feminazi Trojan Horse that did succeed was Title Nine, which is currently playing havoc with boys' and mens' sports in educational institutions.

The goal, in my opinion, is to emasculate the men of America and to make our country into a paper tiger.

Unfortunately, from the large number of spineless wimps on Capital Hill, they seem to be succeeding.

If the GOP permits this to go through
we should all vote Democrat as there is nothing that the Dems could possibly do that is worse.

Remember but one thing: In 1976 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts passed the state version of the ERA, the state constitution (written by John Adams, son in law of a minister) was ammended to replace "no man" with "no person."

Three decades later a state judge (appointed by a REPUBLICAN governor) interperted this to require gay marriage. Another judge just interperted it to require that a girl can play on the boy's sports team even though there is a girl's team. Legal experts question if any man found in a women's bathroom or locker room could be prosecuted - or even removed without violating his civil rights...

Back in '76 the feminists promised that all the ERA would do is equal pay and such. Even they hadn't even dreamed of gay marrage back then.

So one can imagine what evil could come out of this some thirty years hence. And if the Republicans permit this to pass, we owe them a defeat in '08 notwithstanding whatever their dem replacements might do.

Rights for Muslim women....?
Does this feminist screed decree these same rights for women in fundamentalist Muslim states, where women may be beaten and stoned, but may NOT leave their homes uncovered by full body trash bags or get an education?

Action
Although it will likely do no good, I am writing my reps to promote a filibuter.

The question is
why does this keep coming back. If Carter signed this in 1980 and it has not been ratified why do they keep bringing it back? Why not push for a resolution that PERMANENTLY gets rid of this thing?

Seriously?
Is this being seriously considered for Ratification?

Tell your 'representatives' to just say no!

The Liberal/Demos for
years have been trying to give away our sovereignty to the UN. The Clinton's would love it! Part of their Globalist one world government scheme! If the terrorist insist on blowing something. Hope it's the UN.

What is it the kids say:
O MY GOD!

What us older people say is: You gotta be kidding!

But they aren't folks.

You won't be allowed any holiday but "worker's day" and ABSOLUTELY not distinction between sexes. And the federal gov as the RULER of just EVERYTHING. Birth to death.

And I still want to know what "family education" is...
