We need compassion for our border guards

What was the biggest suprise of Election Day?

President George W. Bush pardoned 16 criminals including five drug dealers at Christmastime, but so far has refused to pardon the two U.S. Border Patrol agents who were trying to defend Americans against drug smugglers. It makes us wonder which side the self-proclaimed "compassionate" president is on.

Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were guarding the Mexican border near El Paso, Texas, on Feb. 17, 2005, when they intercepted a van carrying 743 pounds of marijuana. For what happened next, they were convicted and sentenced under a statute that was designed to impose heavy punishment on criminal drug smugglers caught in the commission of a crime.

The two agents are scheduled to start 11-year and 12-year prison terms, respectively, on Jan. 17, for the crime of putting one bullet in the buttocks of the admitted drug smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, and failing to report the discharge of their firearms. The nonfatal bullet didn't stop the smuggler from running to escape in a van waiting for him on the Mexican side of the border.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., called the two agents heroes. "Because of their actions, more than a million dollars in illegal drugs were stopped from being sold to our children. Bringing felony charges against them is a travesty of justice beyond description."

The White House and the U.S. Department of Justice are stonewalling requests for a presidential pardon from 55 members of Congress and U.S. citizens who have sent at least 160,000 petitions and 15,000 faxes. When the Bush administration deigns to respond at all, the official line is that the Border Patrol agents got a fair trial.

But that's not true; they didn't get a fair trial. They were convicted because the Justice Department sent investigators into Mexico, tracked down the drug smuggler, and gave him immunity from all prosecution for his drug smuggling crimes if he would please come back and testify against Ramos and Compean.

It was massively unfair to give immunity to an illegal alien narcotics trafficker while destroying the lives and families of two Border Patrol agents who risked their lives to stop him. Ramos and Compean were convicted mainly on the testimony of the immunity-sheltered drug smuggler, whose integrity should have been called into question, but Ramos and Compean were forbidden to do that during the trial.

The prosecutor even tried to get Ramos and Compean convicted of attempted murder! The jury acquitted them of that outlandish charge, but the government still asked for a sentence of 20 years for the other counts on which they were convicted.

How did the prosecution go from an administrative violation for failing to report a firearm discharge, with the penalty of perhaps a five-day suspension, to prosecution for intent to commit murder? Continued...

Pardon for two "HERO" Border Guards
After having read most of the replies I know Bushwhacker is nothing more than El Pino (President in name only). His refusal to pardon those two guards is so hypocritical for a supposed person of faith especially after pardoning 16 criminals which included drug dealers....nice touch El Pino Without a doubt there are two faces of El Pino and now we have seen the other side. What really gets me is after all his talk about values his back-peddles on them.

It's bad enough that that drug smuggler gets off because he was promised immunity to testify against the agents. Then there was the intimidation and misformation fed to the jurors for a guilty as charged decision. Were these two border guards set up...SOUNDS LIKE IT! I don't know if you know this ...but this same drug smuggler gets caught again and is given immunity AGAIN! Meanwhile he is sueing the very country that gave his sorry A** immunity. Too bad which ever Guard shot fired his weapon didn't kill his drug smuggling A** and bury him!

In 2005 EL PINO and the heads of state of Mexico and Canada sign a under the radar agreement which has led up to the NAFTA Superhighway that will , upon completion run from inside Canada, through the heart land of the United States into Mexico leaving us a borderless North America. The first section is suposed to start construction (GUESS WHERE) TEX-A** !

IS A North American Unuion next? VERY EMINENT! Funds are being sent to each state for highway improvment??? Actually these funds will be spent on each states portion on this Several football fiels wide highway. ( By the way Mexico can't pay its share so you know who will pay for that and it won't be Whacy Georgie. Eminent Domain seizures, displaced families, dssappearing farms and small communities and does El PINO CARE HE** NO! All this will done without any congressional oversight whatsoever! Do a search on "NAFTA SUOPERHIGHWAY AND READ ON.

Now we should know why El PINO was pushing Amnesty and no fence. Now the other problem we have is this Fancy Pants Nancy Pollutant and her Mad Hatter Party attempting to take away our right to jump on their A**ES by restricting Grassroots organizations keeping us informed as to what dirty laws they are trying to push into law. It should be noted she left the Unions and big business alone (her biggest political funds doners) It's sounding more and more like a push towards to a socialistic, communist dictatorship every day. Is another Revoluntionary war in order? EL PINO better be right if more troops get sent to Irag. Lame Duck PREZ?..more like LAME BRAIN...and to think I voted for his sorry butt and the spinless RINOs too...NO GUTS NO GLORY! THEIR GUTS CAUSED THEIR A** KICKING DEFEAT and now were still stuck with the real trouble makers DAM-O-CREEPS!

Border Patrol Agents
In case no one noticed....The only one claiming that he wasn't armed was the Illegal Drug Smuggler that our Government decided to give a full pardon to.

This is just another instance of Our Government and Bush in particular, revealing what side of the debate of Illegal Immigration they are on. Bush has spent more time in Mexico and meeting with Mexican Representatives than any other President in my lifetime. Since Bush refuses to seal our Borders and protect our Sovereignty, my question would be "What is he gaining?" Could he be getting a cut of the Billions of $'s being made by Mexican Drug Smugglers?

Our own National Reserve troops retreated from an armed incursion into our Country last week. Why would Bush put National Guardsmen on the Border only to tell them they can take no action when it is required.

And if you really want to get the truth about what is happening, try going to some other network for your news besides Fox. Try Lou Dobbs on CNN, he has been talking about this and other issues regardng Illegal's for a long time.

If you are truly upset about this miscarriage of justice go to http://www.grassfire.org/142/petition.asp
and sign the petition and join them in their fight against Illegal Immigration. Write letters to your Representatives, Newspapers and National News Organizations on a weekly basis, not just once. GET INVOLVED !
