Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Do you have a sense that the “other shoe” is about to drop; a sense of impending change; a quickening? The mind can play funny games, no doubt, but I have to admit that something in life seems different, somehow.

If you are not of the Christian faith, then perhaps this discussion will seem odd. If you are atheist or agnostic, you likely have reasoned yourself into believing (or not believing), that such is of little consequence. Nevertheless, I would like to point out that in a world where there are few absolutes, and where knowledge of fact can become yesterday’s mistaken assumption, a wise man will temper his wisdom with perpetual self doubt. If a wise man stands rigidly on nuggets of reasoned wisdom, for rigidity’s sake, that man may find himself standing on lumps of fool’s gold when the new day dawns.

Bible scholars have argued forever about the mysterious book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament. It was written by the Apostle John., when he was in exile on a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea, called Patmos. The style of the book has been labeled, apocalyptic literature, and it is filled with mysterious and downright frightening descriptions of coming events, revealed to him by Jesus Christ.

I am not a Bible scholar, which is good enough reason for me, not to attempt my own interpretation. However, I am a consumer of such interpretations, and if indeed, the book foretells events yet to come, I am subject to those events just as everyone else is. So in that light, I feel qualified to discuss the matter from a personal vantage point.

The book of Revelation is of such complexity and importance, that I am not going to try to disassemble it here, not that I am even capable of that. In fact, there are two passages at the end of the book that should make anyone think seventy-seven times, before declaring that something is or is not said in the book of Revelation. These are the words of Jesus, revealed through his Angel to John…

Revelation 22:18-19

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

That tells me, in no uncertain terms, that God takes this last book of the New Testament seriously, and that He will not be pleased with anyone who messes around with it. I am one hundred percent certain, that I have that correct. Add to this book, or take anything away from this book, and you are toast. Crispy toast. Bug-infested black toast.

I wonder then, about the many and varied explanations that have been dished my way regarding the book of Revelation, and the many prophesies contained within.

I have heard a man of the cloth, tell me that the book of Revelation is just a bit of creative entertainment, provided as a light-hearted way of ending the Scriptures. Huh? I never noticed any intermissions offered in the middle of the Bible. There were many stories that Jesus told, but all of them had a very significant meaning. Somehow, I do not believe that this was John’s attempt at the New York Times best-seller list.

There is a well thought of man on the radio, who has all of the answers about the Bible. He seems to think that John was writing about things that were relevant to his time, and such things as the Anti-Christ were in reference to someone with whom the early Christians were well familiar. That would be Nero, who had a nasty attitude about Christians. He is said to have tied (or skewered) Christians on a pole; dipped them in tar, and then lit them on fire to light his garden.

I can see how Nero might fit, and I am certain that this radio personality is well studied in the ancient languages of the original texts. Yet, this simply does not sit right with me for some reason. Kind of like that feeling you get, when you are about to get the shivers, but they just will not quite kick in. Maybe that only happens to me.

Perhaps what bothers me is that the Bible always seems to provide messages that pertain in a timeless manner. What was good thinking then is good thinking now, at least in terms of our relationship with God and our fellow man. Certainly, there are a few descriptions of ancient customs, which would be alien today, but those are scattered within the context of the broader word of God.

To say that the entire book of Revelation was written in such a fantastic way, that it would only make sense in the context of John’s time seems incomplete. Even if you take the point that one must be familiar with the prophesies of the Old Testament in order to decipher the book of Revelation, I find it hard to believe, that God would provide this last Word in a manner that required the average man to be more than he likely is.

Did you see the movie, “The Omen”, which revolves around a child, Damien? The boy learns that he is the anti-Christ, and attempts to claim his kingdom on Earth. There is a group of Priests, who are duty-bound to assassinate the anti-Christ, but fail in their mission. It is spooky drama, using some loose bits and pieces from the book of Revelation, but in the end, it does not come close in substance or purpose.

I would be surprised, if you have not wondered why on Earth I am writing about this subject, and what it has to do with anything. Well, Easter has me thinking. Easter is the most important remembrance for Christians. In comparison, Christmas cannot hold a candle to Easter in importance and significance to the faith.

Jesus was God, who came to live as a man, flawlessly as no other man could, so that he could take upon his blameless self all the sins of mankind, be put to death to atone for those sins, and then defeat death by rising from the grave and ascending to Heaven. That is Easter, the day that Jesus defeated the curse of death and rose to live again. The life of Jesus was spent preparing man for this day, telling us that there is only one way to God, and that is through Him.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” There is only one requirement to join this “club” and be free from our sin which keeps us separated from God. It is a tough one too, because it seems too simple. All we have to do is believe in Jesus, accept the gift of life, by faith alone; acknowledging that nothing in our ability can do what only Jesus could do for us.

Again, why do I bring this up in a column now? What does this have to do with the book of Revelation, and the various opinions about what it “really” means?

Well, I have come to believe that the book of Revelation should be simply read for what it says. It sounds far out and full of dark fantasy. If one believes in God at all, who by his very nature has to be supernatural, then why should the supernatural language of the book of Revelation be so difficult to accept?

Biblical prophesy points to an end of times, when we should notice signs that hint that the coming of the end is near. People have gone crazy over this for centuries, and have been prepared time and time again for the Second Coming of Jesus, only to see the world continue as it has for thousands of years.

However, there are a few loose ends that have wrapped up or are evident. Things such as the Jews returning to Israel, wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, natural disasters, unrest in the Middle East, simultaneous talk from Muslims about the end, and wiping Israel off the face of the Earth.

Perhaps you have heard the words of Peter… “But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. The earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

This Easter has me thinking about these things with a little more attention than usual, because, well… there is a lot of stuff going on in the world. There are many non-biblical things to note as well. I have been watching and reading with some curiosity about the ancient Mayan calendar. It is a remarkably accurate creation, predicting with uncanny accuracy celestial events and what not.

However, for some reason, the Mayan calendar comes to a screeching halt on December 21, 2012. From what I understand, the method used to calculate the Mayan calendar, cannot be extended beyond that date. Did you catch the date? That is about five years from right now.

We have heard a great deal about the Muslim faith, for obvious reasons these past few years. One thing that is quite striking is how intolerant Muslims are for other religions, even though the Koran speaks of Jesus, marking him as a prophet, but denying that he was crucified, or that he rose from the dead. There has also been a lot of talk about how quickly Islam is spreading around the world.

You have not been hearing this though. That thousands of Muslims are converting to Christianity. Over the last several years in Egypt, there appears to be nearly one million new Christians who are hungry for the Word. There are reports of thousands of Muslim men, who have converted to Christianity after having dreams, or visions of Jesus, and the Jesus in their vision was nothing like the Jesus described in the Koran. These men were so struck by the experience that they have sought out Christians to help them learn more.

This phenomenon is striking on its own accord, but when taken with the words found in the Bible, such as the following passage, it is very difficult to just sit and look unimpressed.

Acts 2:17

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

So then, you see, this Easter is upon us, but I have begun to wonder how many more Easters there might be. Maybe there will be a thousand more Easters. Maybe there will be five more Easters. Maybe… this could be the last Easter.

I just want to be sure everyone has an opportunity to consider all that there is to be considered. You may well have decided by now, that I am just another right-wing religious nut-job, and in the end, you might prove to be right. Because of their faith, the earliest Christians were devoured by lions as entertainment. I am pretty sure, that being called a nut-job hurts a lot less.

worth considering
HI, my first posting.
I would like to point out, that messiah himself said he would come like a thief in the night, and of course, i believe it is so. But gentleman and ladies, if you have read any of the intriguing information that accompanies the date 12-21-2012, you will immediately notice that it has similarities to the vial of the fourth angel! The thing to watch for, therefore would be naturally the signs that encompass the first three vials! It may be nothing but a hoax, but if it is, it is a very elaborate one. Remember that no man may know the day and the hour of messiah's return, but the signs should be very evident. I will perhaps see in app. 5 years

Stop Interpreting
Mr Harris,
You say, you should not be writing on this topic. Thanks for saying that, now I would advise you do the same.
As a former Catholic, I can tell you that in Seminary, I learned the same as what that man of the cloth told you. That story was talking about the times the writer was living in. It was the time of Jesus, Mohammed and many other prophets or Holy Men as some of us prefer to call them. John was trying to keep his flock in line. As you may know, before Gutenburg, there were no printed Bibles. The only holy books were handwritten documents kept in monasteries and other secure places. They were not shared amongst the public, but were read and interpreted by the church, and no one else. Catholics still believe this is the only way the Bible should be read.
Now if you want to leave it up to personal interpretation, here is my lean on the whole thing. We are living in the Tribulation, it all started with Ronald Wilson Reagan ( 666 is an anagram for a mans name - says so right there in your Book of Revelation)He turned this nation in a direction I am still fearful of. You and the others of your ilk, in my interpretation are the followers of the false prophets, and it is all of you who will pay the price.
How's that for an interpretation Mr Harris?

my mistake
make that apparitions...LOL

Goto Google
Phil and gang, check out Zeitoon, type in Google 'Zeitoon' and then 'Apparations', you will be very surprised, I was. Have a great day!

Pray for me?

I'm praying the end times come for dingbats stupid enough to believe in them...shouldn't your faith in them be enough to bring them on? Well, I hope so. What a fine day for EVOLUTION that would be.

Christian Light
I think you meant lite.I don't think you know what my ideas are,I'm sure I haven't communicted them clearly. Jesus said the kingdom is within ,why look without?

terrific artical
Hi Phil, very good article. I wouldn't worry about the end of the world kind of thing though, it's not healthy or practical. I believe Jesus would tell you himself that you should live a holy life regardless of whether today is the last day of your life or if you got 20 years more of life to go. So glad you shared the stories of Muslim men having dreams and that many are converting. Have you ever heard of the Town Zeitoon in Egypt, in the last century Mary, the mother of God appeared above a Coptic Church to the glee and wonder of that town. This is well documented. As the West loses its faith and tradition and abandons the subtle but very substantial love of God, it is so heartening to read of others that are discovering the wonder and glory that is the loving and faithful God. Happy Easter!

Sam,
You are right. The Church preceeded the New Testament by 300 Years. Christ formed the Church, and for over 300 years it survived because of both an Apostolic Succession and an oral tradition. One only needs to read the Didache (written less 80 years after Christ's death -it was teaching tool for early Christians), and the writings of the Church Fathers to see that Christ himself set down Doctrine. The roots of the Apostles spread and can be traced to Christ Himself. Doctrine ALWAYS played a part of the Church. From the earliest writings ( as early as 30 years after Christ's death), there is documentation of the Eucharist, Confession, and Pennance.

Your idea of Christianity Light was what Christ preached against during his entire. ministry

Revealation
Don't want to shock you ,but just because Revealtion says anyone who alters it will be toast, doesn't mean no one did. Can you name one commandment that is'nt broken 10 ,000 times a day?
As for being the last book in the Bible, the arrangement of the modern Bible happened in the 3rd Century AD ,hard to say for sure if that was original or not. Many things were excluded at that time ,and there was much fighting and blooodshed for hundreds of years over what was and what was not scriptural. Literalism is a slipperry slope.Better to follow Jesus' teaching: The Kingdom of God is within, than to argue doctrine ,and better to follow the teaching not to judge than to judge others on doctrine.

A few thoughts
Bought a Christian bookstore in 1980. Ran it for 3 years.

At the time there was a tremendous groundswell of prophetic interest. This was based primarily on the fact that Israel had become a nation in 1948. Certain prophetic passages had intimated that when this happened that that particular generation in existence at the time would not pass away until related described events took place. A generation in the Bible was often figured by some to be right at 40 years. Do the math. 1988 therefore “promised” to be a very interesting time. Prophecy was a hot subject. Fires in the heart of many a prophecy buff burned hot, burned fast, and then too often burned out as the pages of the calendar continued to turn.

It may have been that the events (or at least some of them in this discussion) being described in the Bible did in fact already take place. Perhaps not. I do not know, but my expectation is that much, much more awaits us.

Where am I going with this? First, these false alarms have occurred countless times throughout history. We know this. Second, a thousand false alarms mean nothing if the next one in the real one. Third, we cannot know the time—that fact has not changed. Fourth, if you or I die today, our end times are quite well defined. Fifth, we should always have our spiritual house in order. Sixth, I would avoid over-excitement about any particular time frame, but encourage much excitement every day for one’s relationship with God. Seventh, final Biblical prophetic fulfillment—which will come someday—will leave other religions with egg on their face and no recourse. The “exclusiveness” of Christianity—and certainly its parent Judaism—will then be a hard fact. Eighth, it does take a willful blindness not to see many interesting signs on the horizon. Ninth, opening up this subject is like shaking a pecan tree. Tenth, a condensed version of the Bible came out in the 1980’s. I was most curious how they would treat the dire warnings not to tamper with the message in the Book of Revelation. Easy. They left that part out.

Faith...
...have you considered getting help? I'm serious.Try it.

Easter 2007
Thanks Phil, for reminding us of what Easter is all about. I too, believe that we are nearing the end of the world.

But I don't believe in that Mayan hooey. If the day and the hour are not known to even Jesus Christ himself (but only to the Father), certainly no Mayan would have more insight than
the Son of the Most High.

Revelation is a tough book to read. I've studied it many times. I still don't understand it all. And I'm still convinced that guys like Tim Lahaye and the TBN/Insp channel haven't a clue either.

But it is clear from the writings of Paul and the four Gospel authors, that we are indeed at the end of days.

Excellent work, my friend.

Thoughts
If I remember my Mayan Cosmology right they worked in cycles. So one cycle ends on December 21, 2012 and another one starts.

Interesting news about the conversions to Christianity among Muslims. Any one have a link to sources or more information?

On the adding to Revelations and thus getting added to the plagues, would the Left Behind series or the Omen movies be considered adding to Revelations? If so there could be a nasty surprise for some people. That could be the basis of a few books or movies in it's self.

Peace & Love

Natasha

The day of the Lord
First to Nam 65-66. It will warm up in upstate New York after Al Gore flys over you about 20 times spreading that carbon around.
As an evangelical minister who has studied this subject extensively and taught through the book of Revelation two times (about a year for each) I appreciated this article. To understand Revelation fully it helps to read the book of Daniel and Ezekiel 38 and 39 among other passages.
I do not understand everything in Revelation and there have been many anti-Christs as John said there would be in the book of I John. But the antiChrist in Revelation will be THE AntiChrist. The other shoe will drop someday but we as Christians are to anticipate Christ's return and live for Him each day and keep an eye on things. The info on many men in Egypt coming to saving faith is very heartening I would love to go and help them in their understanding of the Bible and be blessed by their questions that would most assuredly make me think and at times make me say "I do not know."

Prophecy
Paul says in I Thessalonians 5:2-3 that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly.

And Jesus said in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, when he spoke after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem of the "end of the age," that only the Father knew when the hour would come for it.

I remember a time when the Soviet Union was thought to represent one of the creatures depicted in Biblical prophecy as a metaphorical, imperial actor at the end of the age. The confluence of events and human ideas that made that seem probable has been superseded; the prophecies remain.

So many people on earth have yet to be reached by the good news of Jesus, including millions of Muslims, Hindus, and Chinese of various backgrounds; and we are assured that God's patience with us -- mankind -- is because He is not willing that anyone should perish. (2 Peter 3:9) His patience, which can seem to us like unaccountable delay, means salvation. (2 Peter 3:15)

I wouldn't dismiss dreams and premonitions out of hand, but I do think that humans can be too focused on interpreting signs and making predictions. One thing to consider is that the belief in today's world that there are more hurricanes, earthquakes, etc now than there used to be is more a function of increased human opportunity to observe and report, than of a real increase in these phenomena. Only in the last couple of centuries has a modernized population -- keepers of homogeneous records -- penetrated the earth thoroughly enough that we can really establish a baseline of what is a NORMAL, global amount of such geological and climate activity.

If I were looking for a sign, it would be that the personal knowledge of Jesus Christ -- not just proclamation but salvation -- has spread to every corner of the earth, and that instead of fearing wars and rumors of wars, people are anticipating peace and safety. Under those conditions, the day of the Lord truly would come like a thief in the night.

I don't think the preparation of Christians for that day will involve knowing when it will happen. Rather it will be a matter of remembering what Jesus said: that we should keep our spiritual house in order, like the servant waiting for the master's return at any time; and that we should be ready for the change on no notice -- if we're on the roof when it happens, don't go back down inside the house. Don't turn back like Lot's wife, pulled by attachment to or regret for our temporal life. (This last in Luke 17:20-35) Jesus makes it clear in this passage that, as it was before the flood, and before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, it will be in before the day of the Lord: people will be eating and drinking, marrying, buying, selling, planting, building. Life will be going on.

Until then, let us live holy and pure lives, love God with everything we have, love our neighbors as ourselves, and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to all the earth.

Dear Soldiers of Light

Please, I mean no disrespect in any way shape or form addressing you as Soldiers of Light. This is the title given by God The Father through Our Blessed Mother.

» Hello Bibleprobe (Steve)
» The way I understand it is that according to prophecy the third temple will be built and the antichrist will sit in it and claim him self to be God in order to mock Jesus Christ. Does that sound right? And the Jews do not see things the way Christians do because of their rejection of the true Messiah Jesus Christ. So with that the Jews are still blind even though they think they can see. So they feel that they must build a third temple and this time God will allow it for a short time (3 to 7 years or so) so that prophecy may be fulfilled. And it could be the antichrist that helps them to succeed in building the third temple. God will open the doors for the Jews to build the temple when the time is right according to his timing and will.
» Well God Bless Steve

God Bless The Israelites

Never before has man....
Never before has man so savaged the tree of life and tampered with the very foundation of creation.
MAN, VIA SCIENCE AND POLITICAL AGENDAS IS NOW TRYING TO BECOME THE CREATOR. MAN IS SEEKING TO THROW GOD FROM HIS THRONE. They'll eventually say you can have eternal life by killing others (embryos and probably older people, in the future). Truly they are preaching a mock anti-gospel.

Mother Teresa once warned that "the fruit of abortion is nuclear war." She also said that no one would be safe if a baby wasn't safe in the womb. God is so patient and forgiving. HE waits and waits as man seeks new ways to offend HIM.

Yes, as Pope John Paul said, years ago -

"We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of the American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel and the anti-Gospel. This confrontation lies within the plans of divine providence. It is a trial which the whole Church . . . must take up."

—Cardinal Karol Wojtyla (John Paul II), reprinted November 9, 1978, issue of The Wall Street Journal form a 1976 speech to the American Bishops

I've been thinking too...
I'm a Christian, but don't spend a lot of time thinking about end times. I do my best to follow Christ's teachings to be always ready for his return and work to take as many people to heaven with me as I can. However, lately a phrase from Revelation has been rolling around my head. It says that in the last days, men will declare good to be evil, and evil to be good. Has there ever been a time in history where that has been more true?

Even so, Lord Jesus, quickly come!

I will pray for Rune
I suggest y'all do the same.

Pray for Muslim conversions
I've been praying for key Muslims to receive a vision from the one true God for many years. I even suggested to DOD and Homeland Security that they arrange for some of their "guests" of Mohammedan persuasion to have visions of Jesus Christ, bring them out of the darkness and then send them out into the world with the Light.

Instead of appeasement and accommodating IslamoNazis, which strengthens and gives them a sense that their side is winning, we need to exert as much pressure as we can in all areas, religion being the key. I have a great fear that the rampant bigotry against Christians and special treatment for Muslims is going to bite us in the rear.

Using supposed Christian terrorists in emergency school drills in NJ and MI is the most recent insanity of the PC movement, ignoring reality and needlessly instilling fear of the most Godly people on earth into children.

I am John Doe, and a very good shot, also.

Religion of Peace?
rune misses the point. The "end time" is not something we need worry about, for the word Gospel literally means Good News. Runes hate filled heart saddens me, for I understand there are many more like him, that stand by and hurl insults at those he disagrees with, while at least not recognizing and at most defending and enabling those that openly vow to destroy western democracies, raising their young in the ways of unbridled hatred through the use of Wahabbism and the glorification of death thru jihad. The so called "religion of peace" will not delay his beheading merely because he also hates God loving free people.

End Times
My end time arrives the day I die. Yours, too. Life is a daily spiritual battle to avert sinning and if I do, to confess, be contrite and make amends. (I'm Catholic so I have an advantage in having the Sacrament of Penance).

I do believe that as Christians we are obliged to pray for the conversion of Muslims and if possible, give them the truth and help in their conversion. If we do we could be in danger, as well. Do I have the courage? Time will tell. But I am praying about it. Without God I can do nothing. With God I can do anything!`

12/21/2012

I don't put much faith in specific dates like Dec 21, 2012 for the end of time. I do believe that Jesus said that no man will know the time when it happens. That should mean that the Mayans should not know the time either. But that aside, the time is drawing near and prudent men (and women) will be prepared whenever that time arrives.

2012 Dream
My wife had never talked to me about any dreams before, she didn't ever remember them clearly, and frankly they are just dreams. However, a few months ago she told me she had a very clearly remembered dream about a favorite Aunt, long passed away, who spoke to her in this clearly remembered (and to her) very remarkable dream.

This Aunt told her she needed to take good care of herself because she needed to be ready for; "The Great War coming in 2012."

Didn't think much of it at the time...hey it was a dream, and we're in some pretty scary times. She misses her favorite Aunt, no big revelation there, or any Freudian psycho-babble implications I am aware of... right? We're not talking alien abduction dreams after all, and my wife is as stable as they come.

However, I nearly spilled my coffee this morning when I read about the Mayan calendar ending in 2012. Coincidence? I don't know. We are born again Christians, and we fully agree no one will know the exact date and time of Christ's second coming. In fact, my wife's war dream was not and is not such a claim.

It is interesting in light of this column. I hope everyone reads Revelations because you are promised a blessing if you do. Rev 1:3 Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand.

Old Men Dreams
Some will always scoff and have been unable to see. Pray for those while the gates are still open.

Rune
History is full of "Runes". Those who know so much. Consider the head man in the patent office a hundred years or so ago who said "We might as well close the patent office, because everything that could be invented has been invented". Or words to that effect.
I remain sceptical of mens pronouncements, but not those of the Bible.

I am an old man...
...and I don't know of any time that there has not been wars or rumors of war.The anti Christ has been put on so many men that I can't count them. And that is just in my own lifetime. If the end times cannot be known, why bother trying to know them?

Meanwhile, when is Spring coming to upstate New York?

Dan874

"Is that because they are arrogant or do they know that they can get away with it because no one will believe it tillit's a done deal?"

Yes, that's part of it. Another part of it is typical condescension towards the masses:

WE KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU!

You can imagine what my response is to that.

Liberty
Thanks, I've been reading up on it, at those very sites. It's just so hard to believe that our own gov is doing this to us.
The sad part is that I havn't seen anything denying it. Is that because they are arrogant or do they know that they can get away with it because no one will believe it tillit's a done deal?

Two things have changed
This is the first generation in which the charge to "Go into the whole world and preach the gospel to all nations" can actually be carried out -- by internet, by cell phone, by satellite television and by cheap and available air travel we can reach every part of the world these days. That has made me think for some time now.

This is also the first time when one small man (such as President Tom of Iran) can hold the world hostage with weapons of unimaginable power...and it doesn't take more than one of these to start everyone else firing back. Despite the sissified response of Tony Blair's Britain to the latest crisis -- which will only embolden these small but deadly Persians -- the rest of the world is like that line of militia at Kent State, leaning on their rifles and waiting for some hippie to throw a rock and trigger off the blast.

However, we are also warned not to believe those who say "Lo he is here!" or "lo he is there!" Jesus says in Matthew 24 that if someone says "He's out in the desert!" don't go out there to see; if they say "He's at the hall in town" don't show up there either. Because when the day comes, we'll see it from whereever we are.

Meanwhile, I take for my mantra the words of Benjamin Franklin. "If these are the end days, and Christ is returning, I prefer to be found doing my job." I'm putting my house in order.

Or if you prefer Indiana Jones for your quotations, "My soul is prepared. How's yours?"

Dan
There is legislation in sixteen states and in the U.S. House of Representatives denouncing the SPP/North American Union. I posted links to that legislation in another column.

Phyllis Schlafly's website is also a good place to start reading about the coming NA Union. It's very real and must be stopped.

Rune the moonbat
It has got to get to the moonbats that no one of any intellect pays them any never mind. LOL!!!

What a bunch of losers!!

Old Men are Driveling Drivel

What a pointless mass of vague idiocy. The Mayan calendar!...oh, that one's really got me worried. I think your problem is that you finally realize GW and his moronic followers might bring about the end of the world...and you want to project it onto some pseudo-religious schemata.

thanks phil
just say thanks for bringing to focus the day that has passed and what it is about and that all should make ready for the coming of the King.

The unknown unknowns
"As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know
There are known unknowns. That is to say
we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know."

Donald Rumsfeld—Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing

I would add: Even for those who claim to be Bible answer men/Priest/Clergy/Christians, there are things that we think we know, that we dont know that we dont know.

just a thought
Revelation mentions 10 kingdoms. I notice that Europe has become the EU. And I keep hearing about a North American State. Don't know how much I believe that right now, but it seems more and more possible every day.
Could we be well on our way to establishing the 10 kingdoms mention?
I don't know,but like I said...just a thought.

Hm
As an amillennialist I couldn't resist adding my bit, but the book of Hebrews has told its readers from the time it was written onward that "in these last days God has spoken to us by His Son". There can be only one first, and therefore only one last.

We have been in the last days since Christ walked the earth. Christ is risen, He is reigning, Satan is restrained though not powerless, but fwiw I do believe we are in the "little season" just prior to His second Advent. I believe the events of the last two hundred years bear this out-more believers have suffered and died under secularist/Islamist regimes than the Church has ever executed for heresy over the course of two thousand years. I could also be entirely wrong about this little season, but this is just my personal guess. Nobody knows at what point the Lord will return, Jenkins and LaHaye's storytelling notwithstanding. It could get even worse, who knows? We are simply to be ready.

I do not believe it is useful to try to point to particular events to try to determine just when He might come back. After all, the eruptions of Vesuvius and later Krakatoa in its turn must have seemed like the end of the world to those alive then. So too the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Jesus Himself said not to listen to those who would claim "Lo, here is the Kingdom!" or "Lo, there is the Kingdom!" or try to set dates; "even the angels in heaven do not know the hour, but only the Father". His whole point was that like the wise virgins, we have our lamps full so we are not caught unprepared.

He is risen, He is risen indeed! It is truly finished-we await our final redemption with glad hearts.

Mr. Harris
"Do you have a sense that the “other shoe” is about to drop; a sense of impending change; a quickening? The mind can play funny games, no doubt, but I have to admit that something in life seems different, somehow."

I was really struck by your first paragraph because I have felt the exact same way for some time now. I don't know if it's just getting older or if there is impending change.

I do know I have gotten as much of my life in order as possible preparing for the "change".

There are a lot of parallels between world events and the Book of Revelation right now and it does send chills up the spine.

Two cents extra
You do, of course, include those Christians who are being persecuted by Muslims in the Middle East and by Hindus in India? Right. Fair is fair. Nyaaah (repeat 5 times).

Are we near the end times? I think so. I don't believe that the end will be a Hollywood ending filled with special effects along the lines of End of Days or The Reaping but a more subtle approach. Satan comes in the guise of an angel. He'll come as your best friend, smiling all along, just before he stabs you in the back.

We are seeing, today, wars and rumors of wars, we are watching the decay of morality and persecution of those who believe in God. So, I do agree with the article.

my 2 cents
If a muslim converts to Christianity he is automatically under the penalty of death. Given that one can only stand in awe of those who have done so. And we must stand in awe of and pray for those who are persecuted for practicing the faith.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"

Remember that?

and there's always the old stand by - nyaaahhh (repeat 5 times)

Happy Easter. He is risen, the prophecies are fulfilled and man's sins are forgiven.
