Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

This is from an article in my archives, which I originally published in June of 2006. As we move closer to another round of electioneering by those who would be our leaders, it seems there are more important issues hanging over our heads this time around, than there are bats hanging from the roof of a Central American cave. It is tempting to pick a few issues that are meaningful to the present day's news cycle, but doing so runs the risk of forfeiting hard-won ground on issues that are old and battle weary. Abortion is one such topic.

One of the most effective ways to demonstrate the absurd horrors of abortion is to put a face on the issue. No one wants to look at photographs of aborted babies. Abortion advocates would rather lay an ostrich egg, before they would knowingly stand in the same room with such an outrageously inappropriate image.

Read the following snip from a Rocky Mountain News article, about the final day of the Colorado House of Representatives session. Following the article snippet, read a letter from then Colorado State Representative Ted Harvey, as he explains the episode in detail. It is a bit long, but worth it. You can draw your own conclusions, but from where I sit... way to go Ted!

This is not so much about Ted Harvey, who I believe now serves in the Colorado State Senate, but rather, it is about the willingness of our elected leaders to look the abortion beast in the eye, while standing firm on the convictions they profess while running for office. Some of our Republican Presidential candidates have a rather ambiguous history on the issue. I hope that as we evaluate the current contestants, we will perform adequate due diligence in fleshing out their pro-life fortitude.

It is important to remember, that the term Fetus does not describe some "thing" which is not human. It is a term, coined by medical science, which conveniently refers to a specific period during the growth of a human child. Keep that in mind as you read the story of Gianna Jessen.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/government/article/0,2777,DRMN_23906_4684680,00.html>From Rocky Mountain News: They laughed, cried and kept on bickering

The House began its final floor session on a contentious note Monday when Rep. Ted Harvey, R-Highlands Ranch, introduced guest Gianna Jensen. At his request, she had been granted permission to sing the national anthem. He told how the Nashville woman had been born two months prematurely and had cerebral palsy. Lawmakers were touched when he said that Jensen, 29, who wasn't expected to crawl, now can run marathons.

But then Harvey said that the reason Jensen was disabled was that her 17-year-old mother tried to have a late-term abortion. He said he wanted lawmakers to know that fact, because later in the day they were planning to vote on a resolution honoring Planned Parenthood.

Some lawmakers were livid.

"I came this close to standing up and saying something," said Rep. Mark Larson, R-Cortez. He and others said Harvey violated House rules and protocol.

"It was despicable," said House Majority Leader Alice Madden, D-Boulder. "Ted Harvey doesn't care about proper decorum or the rules. He just wants to push his narrow agenda."

Said Harvey: "That was not my intention."

---------------------------

My father sent to me an email, with the subject line: FW: A Pro-Life Hero. It is a letter from Ted Harvey, who at the time was serving in the Colorado House of Representatives for the Highlands Ranch district. Ted wrote to me after this article was published. He said the letter was sent to a few of his friends as a legislative update.

I believe this publicity might have given Ted Harvey a boost in his run for the State Senate, and perhaps, such an example will not go unnoticed by politicians who will seek our support in the national arena. Now as you read the letter below, I hope Gianna's story will grab you by the guts, as it did mine. Hopefully, it will provide for you a renewal of energy, to stay the course in this battle for the most innocent of lives.

---------------------------

I want to share with you an awesome experience I recently had in the Colorado House of Representatives. It is a humbling experience to look back and realize that God used me to play a role in His divine orchestration.

I was leaving the House chambers for the weekend when our Democrat Speaker of the House mentioned that the coming Monday would be the final day of this year's General Assembly. He went on to state that there were still numerous resolutions on the calendar which we would need to be addressed prior to the summer adjournment. Interestingly, he specifically mentioned that one of the resolutions we would be hearing was being carried by the House Majority Leader Alice Madden, honoring the 90th anniversary of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.

As a strong pro-life legislator I was disgusted by the idea that we would pass a resolution honoring this 90 year legacy of genocide. I drove home that night wondering what I could say that might pierce the darkness during the debate on this heinous resolution.

On Saturday morning I took my eight-year-old son up to the mountains to go white water rafting. The trip lasted all day. As we were driving home, exhausted and hungry, I remembered that I had accepted an invitation to attend a fundraising dinner that night for a local pro-life organization. One of my most respected mentors had personally called me several weeks earlier and asked me to attend, so I knew I'd have to clean up and head over.

After our meal, the executive director of the organization introduced the keynote speaker. I looked up and saw walking to the stage a handicapped young lady being assisted to the microphone by a young man holding a guitar.

Her name was Gianna Jessen.

Gianna said "Hello," welcomed everyone, and then sang three of the most beautiful Christian songs that I have ever heard.

She then began to give her testimony. When her biological mother was 17 years old and 7 ½ months pregnant she went to a Planned Parenthood clinic to have an abortion. As God would have it, the abortion failed and a beautiful two-pound baby girl was brought into the world. Unfortunately, she was born with cerebral palsy and the doctors thought that she would never survive. The doctors were wrong.

Imagine the timing! A survivor of a Planned Parenthood abortion arrived in town just days before the Colorado House of Representatives was to celebrate Planned Parenthood's "wonderful" work.

As I listened to Gianna's amazing testimony the Lord inspired me to ask her if she could stay in Denver until Monday morning so that I could introduce her on the floor of the House and tell her story. Perhaps she could even begin the final day's session by singing our country's national anthem!

To my surprise she said she would seriously consider it. If she were to agree, she wanted her accompanying guitar player to stay as well. A lady standing in line behind me waiting to meet Gianna overheard our conversation and said that she would be willing to pay for the guitarist's room. Gianna then said that she would think about it.

As I was driving home from the banquet my cell phone rang. It was Gianna and she immediately said, "I'm in, let's ruin this celebration." Praise God!

When Monday morning came, I awoke at 6:00 to write my speech before heading to the Capitol. As I wrote down the words I could sense God's help and I knew that this was going to be a powerful moment for the pro-life movement.

Following a committee hearing, I rushed into the House Chambers just as the opening Morning Prayer was about to be given. Between the prayer and the pledge of allegiance I wrote a quick note to the Speaker of the House explaining that Gianna is an advocate for cerebral palsy. I took the note to the Speaker and asked if I could have my friend open the last day of session by singing the national anthem. Without any hesitation the Speaker took the microphone and said, "Before we begin, Representative Harvey has made available for us Gianna Jessen to sing the National Anthem."

Gianna sang the most amazing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that you could possibly imagine. Every person in the entire chamber was completely still, quiet, and in awe of this frail young lady's voice.

Due to her cerebral palsy, Gianna often loses her balance, and shortly after starting to sing she grabbed my arm to stabilize herself, and I could tell that she was shaking. Suddenly, midway through the song, she forgot the words and began to hum and said, "Please forgive me I am so nervous." She then immediately began singing again and every House member and every guest throughout the chambers began to sing along with her to give her encouragement and lift her up.

As I looked around the huge hall I listened to the unbelievable melody of Gianna's voice being accompanied by a choir of over 100 voices. I had chills running all over my body and I knew that I had just witnessed an act of God.

As the song concluded the Speaker of the House explained that Gianna has cerebral palsy and is an activist to bring awareness to the disease. "Let us give her a hand not only for her performance today but also for her advocacy work," he said. The chamber immediately exploded into applause...she had them all in the palm of her hand.

The Speaker then called the House to order and we proceeded as usual to allow members to make any announcements or introductions of guests. For dramatic effect, I waited until I was the last person remaining before I introduced Gianna.

As I waited for my turn, I nervously paced back and forth praying to God that he would give me the peace, confidence and the courage necessary to pull off what I knew would be one of the most dramatic and controversial moments of my political career.

While I waited, a prominent reporter from one of the major Denver newspapers walked over to Gianna and told her that her rendition captured the spirit of the national anthem more powerfully than any she had ever heard before.

Finally, I was the last person remaining, so I proceeded to the microphone and began my speech:

"Members, I would like to introduce you to a new friend and hero of mine-- her name is Gianna Jessen. She is visiting us today from Nashville, Tennessee where she is an accomplished recording artist.

She has cerebral palsy and was raised in foster homes before being adopted at the age of four.

She was born prematurely and weighed only two pounds at birth. She remained in the hospital for almost three months. A doctor once said she had a great will to live and that she fought for her life. Eventually she was able to leave the hospital and be placed in foster care.

Because of her cerebral palsy her foster mother was told that it was doubtful that she would ever crawl or walk. She could not sit up independently. Through the prayers and dedication of her foster mother, she eventually learned to sit up, crawl, then stand. Shortly before her fourth birthday she began to walk with leg braces and a walker.

She continued in physical therapy and after a total of four surgeries, she was able to walk without assistance.

She still falls sometimes, but she says she has learned how to fall gracefully after falling for 29 years.

Two years ago she walked into a local health club and said she wanted a private trainer. At the time her legs could not lift 30 pounds. Today she can leg press 200 pounds.

She became so physically fit that she began running marathons to raise money and awareness for cerebral palsy. She just returned last week from England where she ran in the London Marathon. It took her over 8 ½ hrs to complete. They were taking down the course by the time she made it to the finish line. But she made it none the less. With bloody feet and aching joints she finished the race.

Members would you help me recognize a modern day hero...Gianna Jessen?

At this point the chamber exploded into applause which lasted for 15 to 20 seconds...Gianna had touched their souls...

Ironically, Alice Madden the Majority Leader and sponsor of the Planned Parenthood Resolution walked over to Gianna and gave her a hug.

As the applause began to die down I raised my hand to be recognized one more time...

"Mr. Speaker, members, if you would allow me just a few more moments I would appreciate your time.

My name is Ted Harvey not Paul Harvey but please let me tell you the rest of the story.

The cause of Gianna's cerebral palsy is not because of some biological freak of nature, but rather the choice of her mother.

You see when her biological mother was 17 years old and 7 ½ months pregnant she went to a Planned Parenthood clinic to seek a late term abortion. The abortionist performed a saline abortion on this 17-year-old girl. This procedure requires the injection of a high concentration of saline into the mother's womb which the fetus is then bathed in and swallows which results in the fetus being burned to death, inside and out. Within 24 hrs the results are normally an induced still-born abortion.

As Gianna can testify the procedure is not always 100% effective. Gianna is an aborted late term fetus that was born alive. The high concentration of saline in the womb for 24 hrs resulted in a lack of oxygen to her brain and is the cause of her cerebral palsy.

Members, today we are going to recognize the 90th anniversary of Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood,"

BANG! The gavel came down.

Just as I was finishing the last sentence of my speech...The climax of the morning...The Speaker of the House gaveled me down and said, "Representative Harvey, I will allow you to continue your introduction but not for the purposes of debating a measure now pending before the House."

At which point I said,

"Mr. Speaker I understand, I just wanted to put a face to what we are celebrating today".

Silence...Deafening silence.

I then walked back to my chair shaking like a leaf. The Democrats wouldn't look at me...they were fuming. It was beautiful. I have been in the legislature for five tough years and this made it all worthwhile.

The House Majority Leader wouldn't talk to me the rest of the day.

Was it because I introduced an abortion survivor, or was it because we touched her soul? She could hug an inspirational cerebral palsy victim and advocate, but was outraged when she discovered that the person she hugged was also an abortion survivor.

The headline in the Denver Post the next day read Abortion Jab Earns Rebuke. The Majority Leader is quoted as saying "I think it was amazingly rude to use a human being as an example of his personal politics,"

Yes Representative Madden, Gianna Jessen is a human being. She was when she was in her mother's womb and she was when she sang the National Anthem on the Floor of the Colorado House of Representatives.

The paper went on to quote Gianna Jessen, stating she was glad Harvey told her story.

"We need to discuss the humanity of it. I'm glad to be able to speak up for children in the womb," she said. "If abortion is about women's rights, where were my rights?"

Leslie Hanks, one of the matriarchs of the pro-life movement in Colorado, was in the House Chamber that morning and told me that it was the single greatest moment she had witnessed in the State Legislature in the 20 years that she'd been lobbying in the Capitol.

All I can say is, "Glory to God!" He orchestrated it all, every minute of it, and I was so honored to have been chosen to play a part. May we all continue to be filled with and to fight for the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ!

In His service,

Ted Harvey

Assistant Minority Leader

Colorado House of Representatives

Thank you for that Mr. Harvey !!!

This is a great reminder ...
that there are always TWO lives directly affected by an abortion decision. The mother and the child. May we never forget that as we discuss this issue. To me, the key question has always been which "right" is more vital and important, a "right to choose" or a "right to life"? To any pro-abortion "choice" advocates with the guts to post to this article, address that question directly, please.

God bless Mr. Harvey.

Abortion
Some time ago I read that 40 million abortions have been performed in the USA, since abortions have been made legal. If this is true, we have managed to outperfom the Nazis. After all, they "only" killed 6 million Jews. We should be proud of our record. We haven proven to be much more efficient than the Nazis. After all, efficiency is an American trademark. Hurray for the USA!

Reality is so true.......
Sic 'em, Gianna.
Show them the truth. Show the reality of their lies. Let them foam & froth and yell and hate.
Be true to your Redeemer.

And to you, ANTIteenmommas, may you and your ilk continue to practice what you preach. Keep on aborting your own. It won't be many years before your kind is but a fading minority, yapping at the winds of change.

Pro-Life
For anyone who honestly examines the issue, the truth is pro-life.

Most powerful anti-abortion story
I was deeply touched by this story.
God bless Ms. Jessen.
Mr. Harvey is a hero.

Mr Harvey
God Bless you for having the courage to take a stand on this evil practice.
Gena you are a true inspiration!!!!!

Antiteenmom
I noticed you never responded to the post on the other article which asked
"Against abortion? Don't have one." is any different than "Against slavery? Don't own one" in a moral sense. Care to answer that here? Perhaps another liberal miracle solution? Your miracle solution only describes what is already taking place. But it doesn't do anything to curb the spread of abortion in our country because there are still millions who do have sex with women indiscriminately, millions of women who have sex with men indiscriminately, and millions of babies aborted yearly as an attempt to wipe out the consequence of that behavior.

Anyone who's interested in that aspect of this debate, check out the "Its not about when life begins" post on my blog. Antiteenmom, I'd love to hear what you have to say, if anything, about that.

Oops
Typo. Sorry, should have read:
I noticed you never responded to the post on the other article which asked you how the bumper sticker
"Against abortion? Don't have one." is any different than "Against slavery? Don't own one" in a moral sense. Care to answer that here? Perhaps another liberal miracle solution?

"Pro-choice"??
Then what choice did the Nazi organiztion Planned Parenthood give Gianna? The "usefull idiots" of Nazi Margaret Sanger will continue butchering babies, while crying for government protection that they will not be subject to the same end-of-life as are their victims. Gutless swine indeed.

The fact that Nazis (Planned Parenthood) & the Communists (ACLU) work together proves that fascists can and will work together to destroy the Constitutional Republic of the USA.

(How is it that the Democrat party sacrificed lives of Americans to fight against German Nazis, yet demand death for Americans fighting against American Nazis?)

Liberalism is a mental illness.
Antieenmommas grants liberal miracles, but is too dumb to apply the same simplistic logic to liberals’ whine. What’s to stop homos from going into the privacy of their own bedroom and having a mock marriage with like minded friends? Why burden the rest of mankind with their compulsive sexual desires/needs, and emotional perversion?
The only liberal miracle I know is that the left has destroyed logic, corrupted the language, cheapen the human experience and yet in spite of them, we still hold together as a country. Now that’s a miracle.

to Ben Hag
You read the other day that 40 million abortions have been performed since abortion was legalized in the United States. I read the other day that 75 million abortions have been performed since abortion was legalized in the United States. Sounds to me as if people are making up their own figures.

Abortion Solution

.....Antiteenmommas ....

.....How to stop abortion? Easy! ....when a man wants to have sex ...put your knees together and say no! ...it worked when I was a teen ...

.....When I was a teen abortion was illegal and there were no sex-ed (beyond biological reproduction) classes in my school ...teenage pregnacies were rare ...

.....You advocate for more sex-ed ...you might as well rename those classes "How to have safe sex and avoid getting Pregnant" A How to Have Sex Primer. ...

.....More sex Ed classes leads to more sex and thus more abortions ...why do you think Planned Parenthood pushes for sex-ed in schools? ...wake up .....COLOSSUS

True
Its true that fetus is a word that gives a clinical sound to what is a stage of human life just as collateral damage is a term invented by the military to do the same thing and downsizing sounds better than firing a bunch of employees.

Praise God
My heart goes out to Gianna Jessen. Praise God for her survival and for placing her in the right place at the right time. She is indeed a miracle.

And Thank God for Ted Harvey. He took a bold chance, Hurray for him!

So many here have made such good points. As a foster parent for many years, I am still astonished to find young girls as young as 10 to 13 having sex. One young 13 yr old had already had 2 abortions before she came to us. Today at 23 she is an active anti abortionist, she attends rallies and speaks out to every young girl she meets. We were able to show her Gods love and help her to see her own self worth. These children are searching for someone ro love them. They come from families who don't give a heck at all about anyone but their own self serving selves!

No wonder we have so many young people choosing sex. They believe that it is love.

Until we can teach ALL children that sex is not love and will never replace self respect, and Gods love, we will have little girls getting pregnant, young boys trying to score, and unwanted babies..... and unfortunately, abortion.

If we teach our children right, give them education in proper sex practices, (yes that does include how to use a condom properly, Sorry but It is important!) then and only then will we not see unwanted pregnancies and abortion.

Not Cut and Dried
Everyone forgets some important points

-pregnancy and childbirth are dangerous (17:100,000 mothers die in the US and 160:100,000 in trinidad and tobago [unicef] and a 43% complication rate in the US [Am J Public Health. 2003 April; 93(4): 631–634. Magnitude of Maternal Morbidity During Labor and Delivery: United States, 1993–1997 Isabella Danel, MD, et al.])
-a fetus cannot live outside of the mother and is a part of the mother until separated from the womb and it should be the choice of the mother if she wants to continue with the pregnancy once she realizes she's pregnant
-many birth defects are detectible within the first 24 weeks. Mothers should be able to decide if they want to carry a disabled fetus who may or may not live (but may cost the taxpayers or insurance companies [ie. anyone who pays for health insurance] hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars over their lifespan).

*abortion is not a cut and dried moral issue.

*The torah does not consider a baby a person until after birth (first breath of life).

Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life

*Notice that the man must pay for the fetus with money, but if the wife dies he must pay with his life (tooth for a tooth).

Numbers 5:24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.5:26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.5:27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.

*numbers is a prescription for abortion, to be used when the husband thinks the wife has cheated.

excellent article
Poor antiteenmom....she just doesn't get it.

I have 2 condom babies. They were unexpected pregnancies when we had no insurance and could barely feed the 2 girls we already had. I now have 4 children (3 are adults in college & 1 son in high school) and I am SO blessed by these children. I thank God those condoms didn't work, or I would not have had the privilege of raising 2 more awesome kids.

I am hoping that the public will learn the atrocities of Planned Parenthood and their founder, Margaret Sanger. As was stated in a previous post, she was a drunken racist bigot who advocated abortion to rid our country of minorities. She hated African Americans and Hispancs and felt that abortion would reduce their numbers in our country. And Liberals champion this woman??????? My God, what hypocrisy!

Planned Parenthood is a pariah in our country. They do not report statutory rape to the authorities as they should, they foster non-communication between daughters and their parents, they take girls from school without parental permission to get abortions, and are responsible for the murder of millions of unborn babies.

Abortion is also a major source of medical and emotional problems for women. NOW, NARAL and PP say that women's health is SO important. If they truly believed that, they would never advocate abortion. Abortion leads to infertility. Anyone make the corelation between the rise in infertility since the legalization of abortion? It's a no-brainer, folks! Australia and the UK have published facts showing the corelation between breast cancer and abortion. Again - another no brainer. If a woman has a history of breast cancer in her family, she is at a very high risk of getting cancer if she has an abortion. The hormones the body produces when pregnant are immediately sent in to chaos when a woman has an abortion. Most breast cancers are hormonal reactive. Why isn't this being told to women? It boggles the mind!!!!!

This is a great article. I just hope some people will learn from it.

Archimedes stand
Ann Coulter hates liberals for bringing Michael J. Fox into the argument for stem cell research. The research would make it necessary to destroy the embryo. How do you argue against Fox with his Parkinson's disease or Reagan with his Alzheimer's?

What you do is get Fox on a stage, pull out a petri dish with an embryo in it, and declare to the world "this unborn baby has all the rights of Fox." It is important that you use the petri dish for honesty's sake. People do need to know what you are talking about.

Leftists like Antiteenmommas
are not anti-teen anything as long as all teens have been throuroughly sexualized from infancy. Leftists in general, from Pro-Parenthood to NAMBLA, aided by the entertainment industry, the MSM, the NEA, and of course, the ever faithful Democrats, are pushing for the total elimination of what we "backward" thinking Christians think of as childhood innocence. "Sex Education" is just one of their tools to accomplish the goal. If elimination of unwanted pregnency is really their concern, I'd like to point out a better way.

What Antiteenmomma and the like may think of as "unrealistic" is in fact, very possible. My wife and I raised three well adjusted, productive adults by means of a Bibically based code of expectation that even other Christians considered strict. We monitored television, movies, clothes, activities, and companions. By the time they left to be on their own, the record was unwanted pregnacies "0", STD's "0", alcohol use "0", drug use "0", even traffic tickets - - "0". I can hear you libs now: "Boy, those kids didn't have any fun at all". Hmmmm, we wondered about that too, but we figured we must be doing something right because our house was always full of our kid's weekend guests, and lot's of laughter. Meals, strictly taking place around the dining room table lasted for hours because the kids didn't want to leave Funny, those kids returned again and again, some even today, well into their adulthood. No, we didn't do it; the Lord did it. We just tried to be diligent in our obedience and He blessed our efforts. Millions of believers are doing the same.

My main point however, is that the primary purpose of school sex ed., as promoted by the left, is to destroy even the concept of childhood innocence. The results are having a catastrophic effect on our children and our culture.

As for our family; our many grand-children shall not, by the Grace of God, ever see the inside of a Public School.

God bless you Gianna Jesson for your powerful witness, Ted Harvey for your courage, and Phil Harris for bringing this story to our attention.

DA
I could approach your post by presenting a point by point rebuttal of the talking points you present as an argument for abortion. One being that 17 of 100,000 American mothers die during childbirth. This figure I'm certain,is the lowest in recorded history and would be hailed as a miracle to past generations, rather than an excuse for slaughtering their unborn children. Also there is no mention of the fact that nearly 100% of fetuses perish as the result of attempted abortion.Fortunately there are beautiful exceptions like Gianna Jessen who serve to remind us of the consequences of our beliefs and give us the opportunity to choose again.
I would rather dispute the spirit of your words not with statistics and not with verses from scripture but by asking you to look inside your heart. To stop running from the conscience that God gave us all along with free will in order that we may one day learn to choose love.If my words seem judgemental they are not intended to be.I don't believe that you are a bad person.I am however, deeply confused that you can read Gianna's story and not be moved in some way.To see this woman's beauty, strength, and indefatigable spirit, which is the birthright of the human race, and to not understand that any life that is taken robs us of the meaning and potential that was inherent to that life,to have no sense of this is frankly baffling to me.But maybe you're right DA.Maybe history, statistics, even the Torah and the Bible have been urging us down the path of exterminating life at it's most vulnerable stage.Maybe there are those who have the right to live and therefore have the right to choose who lives and who dies,or for that matter decide on the definition of life based on their own convenience.I don't happen to believe that.I don't really think that you believe it either, but when you can present an argument as stirring and uplifting as Gianna's for your side I promise to consider it.

Bleeding Heart
get a band-aid; you're staining the carpet.

Come on. Do you really think that because the blasotcyst doesn't "look" like a baby, we needn't give him/her the same protection we'd give Mr Fox? Does that mean it's OK then for a mother to go ahead and smoke, or drink heavily, or use drugs while pregnant? By your lights, that should be perfectly permissible, since the embryo isn't *really* human, yet. I have never been able to figure out where you people draw the line between that which is conceived and that which is born, since the mother who finds she's expecting a baby in March gives birth to that same baby later that year. Precisely what is the magic moment that changes the unborn from a mere "fetus" to a real "baby"? Or is it something more disturbing-an intellectual schizophrenia that can hold that humanity is granted only if a child is "wanted"?

I'd argue, and science said so first, that ADULT stem cells have shown MUCH more promise than embryonic stems cells-because they are differentiated and the results of using them in a given situation will be much more predictable and stable. Further, the hue and cry over lack of gov't funding is ridiculous-there is NO LAW that says you can't use embryonic cells in research-you just can't do it on my dime. What's the deal-if you're so convinced that this is a proper use of human anatomy how 'bout YOU raise/contribute the money you need to fund the research? Let's just see how the market determines whether or not such an enterprise would survive. (I forgot-liberals are only liberal with others' money)

Leftist Addiction to Sex
"To men against abortion: do not have sex with a woman unless you want to raise a child with her, and you're sure she's willing to carry that child to term and raise it with you."

That is the question I have always asked myself before becoming intimate with a woman. Amazingly, I discovered that I could live without sex, and when I discovered that, I discovered that women have a lot more to offer than what's between their legs.

BHL,

"What you do is get Fox on a stage, pull out a petri dish with an embryo in it, and declare to the world "this unborn baby has all the rights of Fox." It is important that you use the petri dish for honesty's sake. People do need to know what you are talking about. "

I agree, provided you put Fox on a mortuary slab next to it, for honesty's sake. Or you could put a six year old child on a mortuary slab next to both of them. Six-year-olds don't have the same rights as 40 year old men, as they are wards of their parents, or of society, either. Shall we start butchering six year olds, or give them to perverts for the latter's amusement, since they're not middle-aged parkinson victims?

I'm always amused by the idea that liberals promote evolution as natural, who denigrate conservatives for supposedly being bigoted by the differences in race (subspecies) but refuse to consider Man natural, and then try to deny the humanity of certain humans based upon their level of development.
Shall we turn Fox over to a research lab to test and dissect so that we can learn more about a vaccine to prevent healthy people from developing Parkinsons? If such a vaccine could only be extracted from middle-aged actors with Parkinsons, would it then be alright to murder Fox? If Fox lost all his money and his elderly mother had to care for his every need, would it then be okay for her to drown him in salt water?

Gianna, we want you!
Thank you, Gianna Jessen, for accepting your public role in this event. Mr. Harvey, thank you too. Thank you very much.

There is a lot of fight back and forth on the issue of abortion, the murder of innocent children in their mom's wombs. But that battle on the part of those of us who choose life, the Lord's plan, is waged in this way because we actually know a good number of our liberal friends have terrific hearts. This battle for life will be won in the hearts of all of us.

Then we can battle about things that don't mean nearly as much but are still important because freedom itself is also worth battling for. That also is a gift from Our Lord.

fetus that sings
Keep up the good work.

The truth will set you free
America has been duped by the devil. Indeed a large percentage of the world is in his clutches. EVERY single aborted, stillborn, miscarried baby is God's creation. He alone knows what His plan was for that baby. There is enough information out there now that Planned Parenthood kept out of reach for so many years--until they lulled the lemmings to sleep. It is time to rise and fight. I think so many people are indifferent to abortion because it doesn't affect them personally. I say we begin a movement to stop recycling. Until it affects us all personally, many will continue to refuse to accept the reality of the horrors of abortion and why our country is suffering for this sin. As long as we still consider children "trash" why bother with the earth and recycling???

An excellent story, but...
I missed the first time this article was published, so I greatly appreciated the opportunity to read it in its seconding printing. This young woman's story was a tremendous blessing, because it is a wonderful testimony to God's sovereign power and sustaining, overcoming grace. The fact that Mr. Harvey was able to put a human face to the Roe v. Wade travesty is commendable. It was definitely a story that should have been told.

However, I have trouble believing that the Lord was pleased with Mr. Harvey's using a bait and switch tactic to get his point across. The outrage his colleagues felt toward him was legitimate, since they had to have felt totally betrayed by this strategy. It was not worthy of a Christian, and not at all appropriate, in my opinion. There are other forums for such a presentation to take place legitimately, but to not fully reveal her purpose in coming to that legislative meeting was to withhold an important fact and to employ an underhanded tactic honorable people should deplore.

The Scripture tells us not to let our good be evil spoken of, and to provide things honest in the sight of all men. A wise preacher once said "It is never right to do wrong in order to get a chance to do right." No matter how good the cause may be, to think that God was honored by dishonesty is to bring reproach to the very God you are trying to magnify.

There is a reason they
used to perform abortions in dark alleys. That's where all the crime belongs. I can't understand how one can justify murder. The same liberal murderers will fight for the rights of animals. You really can't argue with mentally sick commies.

Abortion really is cut and dry
The only exceptions that I may grant you would be incest and/or rape but not without a fight. Murder is murder although sometimes it's justified. When you kill in self-defense you must be able to show that you had to use the level of force necessary to kill your attacker. Make the mothers that want to kill their babies do the same. They would think twice before spreading their legs, teenagers or not. It would have an effect on the man-wh*res out there also.

Joanna
Holding up a mirror to someone's soul is hardly a "bait and switch tactic".If Mr.Harvey would have revealed the true nature of the presentation I believe that he would not have been given the opportunity to make his point.I think that it can be crippling to try so hard to be "righteous" in every way that we abandon the the chance of winning hearts and minds in the name of decorum. As Jesus demonstrated with the money changers in the temple, sometimes you have to make some noise in order to get people's attention.
Great job Mr. Harvey!

Women's rights?
In Society theory there are two groups: majority and minority. They're not defined by numbers: the majority has control (think of Apartheid in South Africa or the concept "it's a man's world"). The Majority, social powerbrokers, (used to be almost exclusively men) want to be able to have sex, but not have to deal with the consequences. Liberals don't want to pay for their own kids. Liberals don't want to pay for someone else's kid either. Just like Sanger who didn't want Society to have to "pay" for the unfit, so are liberals today unwilling to "pay" for children. They just couch their unwillingness as concern for the quality of life (To paraphrase a pig, "Some lives are more equal than others.").

Abortion has never been about women's rights. Abortion has been inflicted on women and children (and fathers whether they know it or not) by at least two groups:

Men who don't value women's worth equal to men (meaning that social majority NOT life-affirming individuals who are also male) and

Liberals, who have removed all morality from sexual behavior.

Abortion is the ultimate rebuttal to that widely-perceived belief that the woman got pregnant to control the man. Abortion is the ultimate rebuttal to the belief that sex is a beautiful gift from God to bless "man and wife" and bring children into the world. Liberals believe: Sex is cheap; Life is cheap.

How many women do you know who had an abortion (and I know several, two of whom are family members) who didn't really want to kill their babies, they were pressured by the father, their parents, their cirucmstances, their professors, and/or their docotrs to do it?

I am praying for the direct victims of Abortion and there are many: babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents, adoptive parents. I am praying for the indirect victims of Abortion: the societies that are missing millions of people and that value so-called quality of life over life. And I'm praying for the individual who thinks she has to choose.

Hey Joanna
Are you trying to say that Mr Harvey broke an acutal law?
Do you really believe that Christians have to be inoffensive?
Am I supposed to stand by while my friend kicks her dog or beats her child? I might offend her if I tell her to stop!

Where do OUR candidates stand?

On Fox News Sunday (3/11/07) Host Chris Wallace engaged in a rapid fire Q & A session with Fred Thompson (Former Sen. from TN... current actor). Here is a sampling of the interview as it relates to this column...

WALLACE: Abortion.
THOMPSON: Pro-life.

WALLACE: Would you like to overturn Roe. ...
THOMPSON: You said lightning round, now. If you want ...
WALLACE: Well, let's go.
THOMPSON: ... more, give me another question. I'll work through it.

WALLACE: Do you want to overturn Roe vs. Wade?
THOMPSON: I think Roe vs. Wade was bad law and bad medical science. And the way to address that is through good judges. I don't think the court ought to wake up one day and make new social policy for the country. It's contrary to what it's been the past 200 years.
We have a process in this country to do that. Judges shouldn't be doing that. That's what happened in that case. I think it was wrong.

Here also are Mr.Thompson's recorded votes in the Senate, again pertaining to this topic;
(I believe these votes were cast prior to 2003)

YES on banning partial birth abortions:
YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions

Fred Thompson leaves no doubt where he stands. How about the Media Darling Big Three? Does anyone know? Is it where they stood last week? Last month? Last year?

PS
Considering his Senate service ended Jan. 3, 2003, I put in the disclaimer but I don't think the Congress went to emergency session that year to vote on anything related to abortion.

"America will not end abortion...
...until America sees abortion."

Rep Harvey showed them abortion.

Magnificus -- Thompson
Ok, so we know where he stands on abortion. How about:

1. Limited Constitutional government and our Constitution as a whole.

2. Privacy (medical, financial, personal) and what would he try to do to rectify the assaults on the above since 9-11.

3. Value of our currency (ie. fiat currency, inflation and the Federal Reserve)

4. Foreign policy. Does he believe our role should be to "spread democracy", carry out UN dictates, and/or be the globo-cop for international companies?

5. United Nations. Does he believe we should empower this organization or get us out?

6. Illegal aliens and our border

7. NAFTA/CAFTA and the other non-free trade agreements. What is his stance on the FTAA that this administration has been trying to cram down our throats?

8. Military Commission Act

9. Patriot Acts

10. Eminent Domain and the ensuing theft of private property.

11. NAFTA superhighway and the North American Union.

I have more, but that is a start. I realize you probably don't know the answer to these, but if you can point me to a web site that you think is good, I will see if I can find any answers.

oops... sorry
I should have asked you this on another thread.

Against DA's illogical heretical garbage
You seem to have forgotten the difference between fact and opinion, for starters.

Big whoop! Living in general is dangerous. By your logic, we most certainly ought to slaughter anyone who has had sex with anyone, since having sex (even with your spouse!) might cause you to catch AIDS and die. (You can never be sure your spouse hasn't been out sleeping around, after all.) In any case, your statistics add no heft to your argument, since you are essentially saying someone else must die for the risks YOU took. Even in the case of someone who has been raped, the one who should be executed for the crime if anyone dies of the risky pregnancy is the rapist. Actually, he ought to be executed anyway, but that's a different subject.

"-a fetus cannot live outside of the mother and is a part of the mother until separated from the womb and it should be the choice of the mother if she wants to continue with the pregnancy once she realizes she's pregnant"

This "logic" would mean that since a 2-year-old cannot live without some measure of adult care, that child is a part of the parent or legal guardian, who therefore ought to have the right to kill her at any time. For that matter, a 6-year-old would probably have a hard time living outside the care of at least one parent or legal guardian, so parents or guardians ought to be allowed to kill him, too!

As is all too typical for pro-abortion apologists, you present this opinion of yours as a settled issue without argument, as though it were a fact. Nothing, of course, could be further from the truth: we as a society regularly interfere with all kinds of choices people make. Just as we have every right and reason to interfere with child rapists, child beaters, and child murderers, so too we have the moral right and reason to interfere with anyone who wants to murder her unborn child. Your "point" is therefore false and lacking in both moral and logical merit.

"-many birth defects are detectible within the first 24 weeks. Mothers should be able to decide if they want to carry a disabled fetus who may or may not live (but may cost the taxpayers or insurance companies [ie. anyone who pays for health insurance] hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars over their lifespan)."

Once again, you violate all logic by somehow deriving "ought" from is. By this "logic" of yours, your own parents should have been allowed to kill you once they realized how much money they otherwise would have to spend on feeding, clothing, and educating you! Indeed, the vast majority of abortions are for this very purpose.

Of course, this "logic" is the very kind we saw in the German eugenics movement that stood as a precursor to the Nazis' rise to power, isn't it? In fact, the Nazis carried this logical absurdity to its most logical conclusion: if we ought to have the right to kill various people because they'll cost us a lot of money, we certainly ought to be allowed to kill political dissenters, since campaigning for votes costs horrendous amounts of money.

By this argument, of course, we certainly ought to be allowed to kill you pro-abortion apologists, since all the money we currently have to waste fighting you in court and in the legislature could definitely be better spent on health care for all of those babies born with severe disabilities if we didn't have you around trying to murder them.

"*abortion is not a cut and dried moral issue."

Cold-blooded premeditated murder for money is not a cut-and-dried moral issue? Neither was the "Jewish Question" to hear the Nazis talk about it. Heck, you pro-abortionists seem to think abortion is a pretty cut-and-dried moral issue: you never settle for anything less than an absolute right to murder unborn children at any time for any reason or none. Spare your relativist hypocrisy, DA. We've heard it all before, and we're not buying what you're selling this time either.

*The torah does not consider a baby a person until after birth (first breath of life).

Certain rabbis' *interpretations* of the Torah do not, that is. These apostate interpretations have no basis in Scripture whatsoever.

"Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life"

"*Notice that the man must pay for the fetus with money, but if the wife dies he must pay with his life (tooth for a tooth)."

Yet another phony argument we've heard before. Note that the passage in question is describing an ACCIDENT, not the deliberate, cold-blooded murder of the unborn child. Note also that the (accurate if archaic) translation "that her fruit depart from her" specifically speaks of the baby leaving the body, but not of that baby dying.

If "no mischief follow" from this accident (if neither baby nor mother are too seriously hurt), the fellow needs only to pay for the traumatic experience of a somewhat premature birth and the emotional damages, as determined in a court of law. If, however "any mischief follow" (death of the child or the mother) then it's life for life!

Clearly, this passage actually condemns abortionists all the more, since a man's life could be forfeit even for accidentally killing an unborn child! Of course, this would probably be in accord with the laws concerning blood feuding, by which people could kill anyone even for an accidental death if he were not in YHWH's sanctuary or cities of refuge (Numbers 35:26-27).
What is to be done to an abortionist? Try Numbers 35:31! "Do not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. He must surely be put to death."

"Numbers 5:24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.5:26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.5:27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.

*numbers is a prescription for abortion, to be used when the husband thinks the wife has cheated."

Again, this argument is completely phony. Where in all this passage does it say that any child will be aborted? This supernatural test (which no one has never actually seen demonstrated) does not anywhere call for the woman to be pregnant, let alone for any child to die. If the previous argument was weak, this one is downright pathetic!

How typical it is of you pro-abortionists to find in a document what simply is not there! That's how you discovered a right to abortion in the Constitution that just doesn't exist either. May the names of the "justices" who "discovered this phony "right" to murder unborn babies be blotted out from the Book of Life, as they have snuffed out the lives of others.

I'll tell you what is there, though: try Psalm 139:13-16.

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my
mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful;
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret
place.
When I was woven together in the
depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."

Most of my fellow pro-lifers stop there, which is fine since that's the issue in question, but I always favor reading the rest of that psalm as well, and contemplating what this means for those who chop up an unborn baby for profit and then scoff at God's warnings:

Numbers 139:19-22

"If only you would slay the wicked,
O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty
men!
They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your
name.
Do I not hate those who hate you,
O Lord,
and abhor those who rise up
against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies."

You know that we are constrained from taking the abortionists' lives ourselves by law, but know this as well: these baby-murderers for whom you shill, wrongfully acquitted of their murders by five tyrants in black, will be retried in Heaven's Court, found guilty, and sentenced to eternal damnation, as will all their clients. Unless you pro-abortionists repent, you will all likewise perish.

Hey "ATM"
That rant really missed the boat. Liberals really put a low value on sex, love, life, and women.

You said:
Obviously, if you don't like abortions you won't have one .
So untrue. Many women abort babies they actually want because they don't think they can give the child a good life or because they can't handle the pressure from their parents or the fathers.

You said:
you wouldn't own slaves if you don't like slavery
Ever heard of Thomas Jefferson? He didn't like slavery, but he was aware of the social context of his day. What was he going to do: turn out hundreds of people into an economy that wouldn't have them?

You said:
Neither of those assumptions do anything for reducing the overall amount of abortions, or slavery, were that still an issue in the US.
It's true that individual choices won't have great impact on social ills when society is based on those same ills. Best solution is to change the basis: prohibit abortion.

You said:
Obivously, when 60% of high schoolers admit to having had sex, abstinence-only education is an abysmal failure that only serves to increase the number of unintended pregnancies and increase transmission of STDs.
Nothing is obvious here. How do you know that those 60% had abstinence-only education? Aren't most students in the US in public school? Don't they all have sex-ed? Do you have a scientific study that shows that teaching kids to wait until marriage actually causes them to rip their clothes off and jump into bed? If you don't understand statistics and science, please don't use them to prop up your logic. Why don't you go after the real educational institution: Hollywood? That's where kids get sex-ed.

You said:
The only logical way to reduce the number of abortions in this country is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies through education and snipping men...
I start to worry when someone (especially a relativist) uses terminology like "only". Are you really promoting abstinence-only education for adults now? No, I see, it's sterilization. I was right before when I said that Liberals want sex without consequences.

You said:
The sad fact that is being overlooked is that the majority of those cases occured because a woman didn't believe she would get pregnant period, and if she did, she believed that the responsible male would marry her and support her and their child.
I don't know where you get that "fact", but sex takes two people (and, no, your hand is not another person). I wonder if you've ever talked to a young person who felt pressured or forced into having sex. Too many young women either didn't have a choice about having sex or were manipulated into believing it was an act of love. Ah, but if we were all cynical Liberals we wouldn't teach our children that sex and love are connected at all.

You said:
Perhaps if all teen girls were given a good subsitute...
Perhaps if girls were told about how valuable they are they wouldn't cheapen themselves. Perhaps the people who really care about Women are the Conservatives.
Besides, many women who end up having sexual intercourse were desiring closeness and intimacy and relationship--which you can't get from a device. People still pass on disease without risking pregnancy.

Backwoods Minnesotan
Let me ask you this. Does everyone have a right to say what they can and cannot do with their body. Can you eat cheeseburgers, or smoke, or get a tattoo? Can I stick you with needles or forcibly make you donate blood or donate a kidney? What gives you the right to tell others what they can do with their body? What gives you the right to force somebody to carry an unwanted child for 9 months at the risk to THEIR health. Here is a hypothetical situation.

There is a person. They have a lethal disease. The only thing that will keep them alive is being bonded to you for 9 months. During this time they will share all of your bodily functions. No one else can do this, because you are the only one physically compatible to this person. You will suffer large amounts of pain, cramping, and nausea throughout. There is a slight chance of death and a good chance of complications that range from infection to stroke. Do you do it?

DA
What a lovely description of childbirth.I guess it's a good thing that your parents didn't think of you as a "lethal disease".By your own logic, who are you to destroy an unborn baby? Or is the mother the only one with those rights?

Abortionists
"Father forgive them, they know not what they do."

We don't hate them, we hate what they do.

We love them and pray to our God to show them the horror of their actions, and give them grace to repent and join the fight against this
holocaust.

patriotmike
I never said it was a disease. I said it had risks. You are talking about the hypothetical situation.

Yo DA!
No, there is no right to do whatever you want with your own body any time your little heart has a desire. By law you can't strip in the town square. By law you can't fornicate in the public park. By law you can't punch people in the nose for being stupid (or any reason other than self-defense or sport).

What right do I have to defend the unborn child from a murdering parent--oh right the mother's "health" is at risk--or doctor? The same right/legal responsibility I have to stop other child abuse.

Yeah, I remember that hypothetical situation--from Philosophy 101. Yeah, life the lethal disease. Would anybody give up his/her own life for the life of another person? Happens all the time (thank you to the military personnel who have made possible my life, not to mention the sacrifice of my Redeemer).

I'm gonna guess now that you don't know anything more about pregnancy, labor, and delivery than you've seen in movies or heard from comedians. Growing a baby doesn't mean the baby shares all of the mother's functions: when a husband and wife have sex during pregnancy, the baby is not being raped.

Billions of mothers have had painless pregnancies. A lot of mothers have a tremendous feeling of well-being and other say they "glow".

Pregnancy is NOT a disease. It is a normal condition. Labor and delivery have come to be seen as intolerable with the medicalization of L&D. Doctors and hospitals make more money the more they intervene in L&D. How on earth did billions of babies come into the world in the unsanitary conditions of their own homes?

Again, you prove the case that Liberals are hostile to women and their maternal functions.

Ted Harvey
It is a sad, sad commentary on our culture that Ted Harvey is considered a "hero" for taking a stand for Life.

Think about that. A hero for taking a stand for Life, the first and most important of the "...unalienable rights...endowed (to us)...by our Creator..."

Well, he is a hero.

God bless you, Ted Harvey. God bless America.

-military personnel-

I am in the military. I have been in the Military since 1991 when I joined during the first gulf war. I was in the 1st Infantry Division, 4/37 Armored Div. followed by the 3/130th inf. and 21st Gen Hospital during college and finally the Amedd now.

I am saying that no one can force you to have surgery or get tattooed. I am saying that people cannot force you to eat a certain way or not drink alcohol or smoke. I am saying that people cannot force you to take a medicine or, basically, do anything to your body that you don't want to. I am not saying that you can't strip. That is not something you do to your body, that is a public behavior.

-I'm gonna guess now that you don't know anything more about pregnancy, labor, and delivery than you've seen in movies or heard from comedians.-

I'm in medicine, anesthesia to be specific. I perform labor epidurals and spinals.

-Growing a baby doesn't mean the baby shares all of the mother's functions-
In essence, the mothers blood and lungs provide oxygen, her liver and kidneys remove toxins and her gastrointestinal system provide nutrition. If you take any of these away, the fetus dies.

-Pregnancy is NOT a disease.-

I never said it was. However, pregnancy induced hypertension (eclapsia/pre-eclampsia), gestational diabetes, and hyperemesis gravidarum are diseases and there are other complications, some of which are life-threatening. These include; placenta previa, placenta abruptio, and amniotic fluid embolism.

Joanna-- bait and switch?

One difference though-- David repented on the spot.

DA
While I am impressed with your record of service and sacrifice, not to mention education, I do want to labor the point a little longer.

I agree that "doing" something to your body could have multiple meaning.

Forcing citizens to have surgery:
The Oregon Board of Eugenics, later renamed the Board of Social Protection, existed until 1983, with the last forcible sterilization occurring in 1981. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_sterilization)

Forcing citizens to take medicine:
In the United States, the Supreme Court ruled in the 1905 case Jacobson v. Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the state could require individuals to be vaccinated for the common good.
Gardasil?

Prohibiting citizen to eat specific foods:
As animal rights activists eagerly await the August 22 phase-in of Chicago's ban on the sale of foie gras, local chefs are providing liver-loving consumers with a last chance to enjoy the delicacy before loony lawmakers snatch it away.
August 14, 2006 (http://consumerfreedom.com/news_detail.cfm?headline=3099)

Forcing citizens to get a tattoo???:
Don't forget Gov Blanco of LA said people should have their SSN on their bodies in case all papers were washed away in a hurricane. Other governments have tattooed their citizens: http://www.tattooarchive.com/history/identification.htm.

It was the anesthesiologist who allowed three of my family to be with my sister when she delivered both of her daughters by c-section using an epidural. If it weren't for med technology I wouldn't have those 2 neices and maybe not that sister.

BUT it wasn't pregnancy that caused her to need surgery. It was the syndrome the girls inherited from their daddy. The willingly conceived a second time, fully knowing the "risks".

Why does this relate to abortion? You asked:

What gives you the right to tell others what they can do with their body? What gives you the right to force somebody to carry an unwanted child for 9 months at the risk to THEIR health.

Abortion is not the only solution to an unwanted child. If it's rights were concerned with, then the right of the child must be protected. If it's their health we're concerned with, then America should have incredibly LOW rates of abortion because L&D is comparatively, considerably SAFER here than other parts of the world.

Perhaps we should consider why a child would be "unwanted". Selfishness? Fear of pain? Fear of poverty? Why should people in rich developed nations fear any of this?

It's only in a culture of death, that pregnancy must be feared and abortion appears to be the solution.

ANTIteenmommas
you said:
As an educated adult woman, I don't know if I would have an abortion- most likely, I would take emergency contraception were I stupid/drunk enough to allow a man to have unprotected sex with me, or have sex with a man who didn't properly know how to use a condom.

You just admitted that you're an educated sl*t.

-I am impressed with your record of service and sacrifice-

Thank you, I am 3rd generation army. I am also the first to complete college and become commissioned.

-Abortion is not the only solution to an unwanted child.-

Of course it isn't. But who should make the choice of proceeding with a pregnancy; the woman who is pregnant and has to deal with the discomfort and risks, or strangers who have never met nor know this woman, her health history, her home situation, her financial situation, and her psychological situation? I am all for alternatives (in fact my wife and I have offered to adopt the infant of the 19 y/o daughter of my mother-in-laws coworker). I just don't think it is my right to make the choice for others. My wife and I have had the discussion on abortion ourselves. After our first child, we had alot of trouble having a second. After a few years, we were 40 and the risk of birth defects increases greatly. We even turned to in vitro fertilization. We decided that if she got pregnant and the baby had a genetic disorder that put it at risk; she would get an abortion early on. It was our decision and was not taken lightly.

-If it's their health we're concerned with, then America should have incredibly LOW rates of abortion because L&D is comparatively, considerably SAFER here than other parts of the world-

There are still risks (especially with older mothers and mothers with pre-existing health conditions). I would rather my wife abort a genetically disorded fetus than risk not having a mother for my daughter.

-It's only in a culture of death, that pregnancy must be feared and abortion appears to be the solution.-

Aren't all cultures involved in death. Everyone dies at some time or another. Even now, we are involved in two wars. People get sick and die, every day. To live life; you have to deal with death. If you live in fear of death, you'll miss the world as it goes by.

WHO gives Life? WHO gives Life?
I AM gives life....therefore, every single life, that ever was, that is now, and will ever be,is Sacred!!!

Truth is truth whether you choose to believe/accept it, or not. Murder is murder no matter how adamently you deny it. Abortion, for any reason, is always intrinsically evil.

Thank you, Phil, for this very heartwarming story. And thank you Rep.
Ted Harvey for your honesty, courage and integrity.Planned Parenthood's founder,Margaret Sanger, promoted a terrible agenda -MURDER- another name for abortion!

Forty million, plus, innocent human beings, in America, since Roe vs Wade, murdered! Wake up people, GOD will not be "mocked".

That's a new way of defining personhood. I bet some of our grandmothers aren't people!!!

Listen dear, you can rant all you want, but you really can't get away from the fact that another living person is harmed. It's a killing, no matter how many new definitions you come up with.
And if your crusade is to wipe out teen motherhood (by getting them all to abort?), well you might want to get another cause.

You appear to have been harmed, and obviously hold some man responsible. He probably deserves your resentment... but it's not hurting him, it's hurting you.

Missed a point
DA,
I think you missed a very important point here. You can argue medical facts all year long and still one fact remeins formost...Most adult women who would face these potential problems actually would go ahead and try to carry their child. I know I chose to. Not once but 5 times. even with the Dr warming me not to. I trusted God to care for us. Most abortions are NOT performed on adult women who have complications or who have found their child is somehow "defective".

The fact is, the MAJORITY of abortions are performed on perfectly healthy young women 15 to 25 as a form of birth control. It is inconvenient pregnancy that causes the majority of abortions.

There is sex education in public schools today, they all know how to use a condome, the problem is, condoms don't feel good! So the majority of males don't use them, and the girls are silly enough to believe that love is what they are performing, not sex. Then they find out they are pregnant and the guy refuses to take any responsibility... abortion.

So please don't try to cloud the issue with that old medical argument. It just doesn't bare up when you look at the facts.

ANTIteenmommas
Nope. I clearly don't believe you. You are a typical public school liberal indoctrinated, oh so "cool" "with it" person, willing to kill the most indefensible of us all. Go watch the Silent Scream. Even our little ones TRY to defend themselves--it's human nature.

I went through 12 years of parochial school and then 4 years of a state college. My education, although I was very successful enough in my studies, has no relevance to what I've learned through God's grace through my personal relationship with Jesus.

Therin lies the difference. I am not accusing you of not having religion in your life. I just don't see God's grace coming through in your writing. The truth is harsh sometimes. Jesus was harsh sometimes. Justice is harsh--Dante believed that, in the afterlife, if anyone has compassion for the damned souls, it is a sign of spiritual weakness. Scary thought. We need to think about the afterlife and talk it over with Jesus while we are alive. God's grace and only God's grace is the difference between understanding the horrors of abortion and rationalizing its horrors.

And over 70% of abortions are by catholic and protestant women. I don't believe that most women use abortion as birth control, only as a last resort. Those that do need serious counseling and education.

There are teens that do not use condoms, but girls and boys need to be educated on disease and pregancy, as well as, abstinence for the optimal prevention. The children's families also need to talk openly about the subject. As far as the medical argument, that is one that has come up in my life. You've made your choice and I respect that; what I am asking is that you respect my wife's and my wishes.

Missed Abortion
Once upon a time there was a physical freak born who, by ACLU/Planned Parent standards, should have been aborted by present-day thinking.
He became one of the greatest inovators in this country. There is even a high school named after him in Chicago. Maybe you heard of George Steinmetz.
How many great people have we lost through abortion?
For DA - I don't know what your military service has to do with anything. I served as a rifleman in Germany with the rank of Private. I saw the devastation in the town of Landsburg where the NAZI aborted grown humans.
I apologize for fighting for a country that does the same thing except only a little earlier in the life cycle.

Carbuncle
Thank you for your post. Excellent!

Carbuncle
-I don't know what your military service has to do with anything. I served as a rifleman in Germany with the rank of Private.-

It was a response to an earlier comment. People often forget that those who disagree with them are also people who serve their country, have families, and work hard.

-should have been aborted-

I never said "should have been aborted." I said that after weighing the risks, we would choose not to carry a severly disabled child. That is our choice.

-NAZI aborted grown humans.-

There is a large difference between sentient, feeling, grown humans with families and lives, wants and needs and fetuses with no knowledge or ability to think or remember. The fetus cannot live outside of the mother. The mother takes the risks and discomfort.

DA
you said: The mother takes the risks and discomfort.

She takes the risks when she opens her legs. That's where her part begins and ends. If a new human is created a whole new story of life begins.

Human life is cheap
30 years ago, we would have been appalled at someone shooting another over a pair of tennis shoes, or someone carjacking another's car at gunpoint.

Since abortion was legalized, human life becomes cheaper every year.

Murder, rape, battery, spousal abuse...all on the rise since abortion was legalized. If the life of the unborn is no longer considered important or viable, it was only a matter of time before a living human life was cheapened.

Margaret Sanger championed eugenics to get rid of "undesirables", including the mentally impaired, the physically disabled and the elderly. She considered them burdens on society. How much longer before this happens in our country?

Women in China aborted female babies because a male was needed to carry on the family name. After 25 years of this, there is now a huge shortage of marriage-aged women in China. There are 5 men for every 1 woman.

Human life is precious. But our society looks at pregnancy a burden. Unborn babies are something to be thrown in the trash because it will interfere with our lifestyle. It's horrendous.

DA
says "There is a large difference between sentient, feeling, grown humans with families and lives, wants and needs and fetuses with no knowledge or ability to think or remember." But there isn't really that big of a difference. A fetus certainly is sentient and has feeling. A fetus has wants--twins in utero have been shown pushing each other in order to have more space. I guess this is also an indication that the fetus thinks. A fetus definitely has a life. Studies have shown that a baby responds to his mother's voice shortly after birth which might mean that a fetus remembers. Every fetus has a pair of parents so they do have families. So what's the big difference? Pretty much the only difference is that the "grown human" can live outside the mother's body. So what about the newborn infant whose life depends on another human being? What about the "grown human" in late stages of alzheimer's? Since he and the newborn both depend on another human being in order to stay alive could we then not eliminate either of them when they become an inconvience or burden?

Antiteenmommas, your ideas about "snipping men who can't keep it in their pants or afford a bottle of lotion or olive oil" and giving teen girls "substitutes" are two of the silliest things I've ever read in a post. I'm also opposed to teenaged parenthood. I'm an advocate of adoption and I'm also an advocate of abstinence and self-control.

This article is excellent and I'm very impressed with Ted Harvey.

aborted fetus sings
Thankyou for posting the article about Jeanna. I so needed something positive on the issue of our halocaust and terrorism in the US. I must remind myself to ever pray so as not to become discouraged or complacent or relinquish my right and voice to defend the unborn. May God forgive.

ANTIteenmommas
ANTIteenmommas,

People here don't care about women's rights, I'm afraid.

"[A woman's right to choose an abortion is]something central to a woman's life, to her dignity....And when government controls the decision for her, she's being treated as less than a full adult human being responsible for her own choices."
Ruth Bader Ginsburg

"I will choose what enters me, what becomes of my flesh. Without choice, no politics, no ethics lives. I am not your cornfield, not your uranium mine, not your calf for fattening, not you cow for milking. You may not use me as your factory."
Marge Peircy

-The same people who are so adament against abortion are also adament against education and welfare. They want people to be poor and ignorant. They do not want them to be educated so that they can make intelligent decisions about sex and reproduction. Tell them that they had to endure a 40% tax increase to pay for across the board health care and welfare, and they would cry foul. They don't want these fetus' aborted, but they also have no interest in paying for them or taking care of them.

Antiteencryingbaby and DA
Anti--ever hear of a run on sentence?? Apparently not. Not to mention the running on of your mouth about your obvious lack of morals.

DA
Why do you quote people with no morality?

Anyone who thinks it is okay to burn a baby and tear it from limb to limb or drown it if the abortion is "botched" has no conscience. You have been duped. You have been fooled. You are disciples of the Father of Lies.

Putting down cats and dogs is more humane than what we do to our own.

Truly. Ask for God's grace. It's such a little thing to do for such a huge reward--it is your duty to properly inform your conscience.

Anti life person
Your comments only cement the fact that, without the grace of God, the easiest of concepts becomes confusing and beyond your grasp.

“I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children”.

Your Social Security # number comments are completely inane. Your "seed of a demon" comments make me wonder about you, however....

There is post abortion help available EVERYWHERE. The yellow pages, the internet.

Some statistics for you to ponder:

Planned Parenthood Reports Record Profits, Abortions Performed 6/19/2006
By Melanie Mitroff

Received largest amount of taxpayer funding to date, nearly $273 million.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America released its 2004-2005 Annual Report on June 1, revealing a record income of $882 million and Planned Parenthood’s second-highest profit of $63 million. The organization also set a record number of abortions performed in one year¯255,015¯ and an all-time low in adoption referrals: 180 abortions were performed for every one woman referred to an adoption agency.

The organization is using these alarming numbers to promote their services and gain customers.

“Planned Parenthood will use any means or any claim to lure more customers and money,” said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA). “It insists that the morning-after pill will reduce abortions. Yet Planned Parenthood posts its highest number of abortions committed at the same time as its aggressive campaign promoting and selling the morning-after pill.”

On top of its $63 million profit, Planned Parenthood last year received its largest sum of state and federal taxpayer funding ever: $272.7 million, making Planned Parenthood the recipient of $3.9 billion of taxpayer money since 1987.

Challenge you? To what? A nonsense contest? Okay. You win.

My wife and I are having a Fetus...
Sounds ridiculous, huh? Obviously my wife and I are having a baby, but the self centered Pro-Choice movement uses that word to "de-humanize" a human baby, thereby making it more comfortable to KILL. A "fetus" is a scientific term...less emotion attached, but a baby...who would be so CRUEL as to kill a helpless BABY??? Pro-Choicers.

DA...are you HONESTLY using Judeo/Christian scripture to try to convince us that abortion is okay? Obviously you are neither Judeo nor Christian. You're swimming in the ocean trying to convince fish that it's okay to breathe air! Should we have aborted you because your brain's logic is malfunctioning?

ABORTION IS NOT ABOUT A CHOICE...IT'S ABOUT A BABY

Joanna
Mr. Harvey did not use Gianna as a bait and switch at all. "Baiting" is luring people in and "switching" the original bait for something fake. Gianna was not switched at all. She was the real deal that the Colorado politicians fell in love with. Harvey was brilliant enough to allow these liberals the chance to fall in love with her as a human so that they could understand the inhumanity of their stance against life. Not bait and switch there...it was just brilliant pathos, ethos and logos demonstrated.

DA
"People here don't care about women's rights, I'm afraid."

DA, women's rights is a SECONDARY issue. Are rights not important? Certainly they are, but what is the greater value we are discussing here? Rights or Life? What are rights without life? Which value is therefore to be regarded higher?

"[A woman's right to choose an abortion is]something central to a woman's life, to her dignity....And when government controls the decision for her, she's being treated as less than a full adult human being responsible for her own choices."
Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ginsburg has missed the point completely. Women have the right to choose to have a baby. The problem is that irresponsible parents make irresponsible choices. For example, most abortions are not out of absolute necessity (life or death), but luxury (i.e. didn't use protection and don't want a baby, don't want my parents/family to find out, etc.) Should a woman, who already has proven that she cannot make responsible choices, be allowed to make the responsible choice for the life of another? Certainly NOT. Her CHOICE was to be sexually responsible in the first place. Now she must live with the consequences because a human life, is no longer HER CHOICE!

"I will choose what enters me, what becomes of my flesh. Without choice, no politics, no ethics lives. I am not your cornfield, not your uranium mine, not your calf for fattening, not you cow for milking. You may not use me as your factory."
Marge Peircy

Peircy's comment is completely self serving and obviously self absorbed. Of course she is not the property of the state to be used at someone's else's discretion...BUT NEITHER IS A BABY! At least Peircy has a choice to be responsible...a baby has no say in the matter of responsibility with regard to their life. Furtherso, 1 out of 10 women might choose abortion, but 10 out of 10 babies would choose life! Notice how every metaphor Peircy claims NOT to be is inanimate. It's easy for her to say, "I'm not your cornfield" but dare she tell a baby growing in her womb, "I'm NOT your mother, stop using me!" Is this what motherhood is then debased to? God help us all.

"The same people who are so adament against abortion are also adament against education and welfare. They want people to be poor and ignorant."

Congratulations...you just made the most harshest generalization of the year and that sort of statement does NOT help your argument. If we are to make such stereotypes then I might say liberals who are tired of soldiers dying in Iraq also have no problem with killing their own babies. This is clearly a fallacy of logic.

If we are to continue along the same vein of illogical accusations, then I would tell you that at least I'm for people having a chance to BE poor and ignorant. You as a Pro-Choicer do not even provide that opportunity from the get go.

life really is precious
Praise God for Ted Harvey and his relationship with the Lord!! Praise God for his listening to the Holy Spirit and the courage to tell the truth about such a heinous act like abortion.
Thank God for Gianna Jensen's life and courage to triumph over what she's had to endure.
This story from her life is such an encouragement to me!
Thank you Ted Harvey and Gianna Jensen!

The other side
Normally I can see the other side of an issue. I may not agree with it, and I may even find it misguided or flat wrong, but I can see it.

On issues like capital punishment, gay rights, taxes, spending, the war, the military, a specific religion, etc., I know there's another side to what I see, and the people who advocate the other side usually have some reasonable argument that attempts to mitigate the distance between my opinion and theirs.

I can't even see the other side in abortion. Abortion is, without question, the most vile, evil, hideous act that one person can commit on another. To torture and murder a child for money, for vanity, to cover up another immoral act, or simply because a child is "inconvenient" shows the most extreme contempt for life and goodness that can be immagined.

It is worth noting at this point that I do not put the blame for every abortion on the woman who procures it. Many are purely and obviously voluntary, and in those cases, the woman is absolutely morally culpable. Many others are commited out of fear, sometimes fear for one's life (I've known someone in that situation). In a situation like that, the woman is much less culpable, and the moral responsibility is put on those who caused the fear, especially if someone demanded that the woman get an abortion. In other cases, the woman is deceived into believing that it is OK, and in those cases, especially where such deception comes from someone the woman trusts personally, the deceiver is to blame. Cases of deception are especially heinous because the woman, upon realizing she was deceived, and that she acted to murder her child based on that deception, often becomes mentally traumatized.

It is also worth noting that otherwise good people are certainly capable of committing horrifically evil acts, especially when they are deceived into believing that the act is not so horrifically evil. Having an abortion does not by itself make someone an evil person (nor does any one act), but that does not chage the absolute evil of the act.

I have never understood how anyone can actively and vocally support so vile an act as abortion, and the most vocal supporters of it appear to be among the most vile, evil, hideous people that exist. Not simply because of their support for abortion (because many people support it who are not otherwise evil people) but for the extent to which they will support it. I'm talking about those who fight every restriction, no matter how reasonable. You know, the ones who want it available anytime, anywhere, to anyone regardless of the age of the mother or the child, and to even allow someone to violate a parents' right to exercise responsibility over their minor children.

It sickens me that people support that mentality under the guise of "rights."

HJG

Gianna is love + truth!
Love and Truth, two words frequently used by the left to promote their agenda. When Ted took action to actually promote love and truth, the left ran for shelter. Gianna Jessen's strength, supported with overwhelming love and truth, had them frantically pulling the covers over the lamp. Gianna had pulled the cover back and allowed the light of love to brightly shine. The left, at first, embraced the light as its brilliance overwhelmed them. They embraced a lady disabled with cerebral palsy. When they learned the truth that her life had been enabled by love, the left got burned. The truth concerning their promotion of abortion, and when life begins, was staring them in the eyes. At that very moment they had a chance to accept,or deny, truth.
I extend my embrace to Ted, and Gianna, for being a part of the fight we all need to pursue. Keep pulling the cover from the lamp and expose its brilliance.
