Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

This has been an extraordinary week. The people have spoken twice - both against the leadership. In the United States Senate, the leadership of both parties by and large was on one side. The people, as reflected by the Senators who cast votes on that final cloture roll call, were with the people. In the House of Representatives all the leaders of the Majority Party voted against the wishes of the people. ALL of the leaders of the Minority Party were with the people. The people prevailed. Over 100 Members of the Majority Party joined every member of the Minority Party to prevail in lopsided fashion. In my more than four decades in our Nation's Capital I never remember a day such as we had last week.

The establishment clearly wanted this comprehensive immigration bill. In the final vote, the Senatorial Leadership of both parties, except Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) voted yes. Eighteen Senators who had voted to proceed with the bill earlier in the week switched their votes from yes to no. What an embarrassment to Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (R-NV); Edward M. (Ted) Kennedy (D-CA), a Committee Chairman; Richard E. (Dick) Durban (D-IL), the Majority Whip; Trent Lott (R-MS), the Minority Whip; Mel Martinez (R-FL), the National Party Chairman; Jon Kyl (R-AZ), the Minority Policy Chairman; and so on. McConnell had hinted that he might not be able to support the bill, even though his President was militantly for the measure. He had voted to proceed with the bill. That lopsided vote was 64 - 35, Tim Johnson (D-SD) not voting due to illness. The final cloture vote was 46 - 53, 60 votes required. Proponents could not get a majority.

Everyone conceded that the bill was dead. Not until 2009, with a new President and a new Congress, could this bill see the light of day again. Everyone conceded except Senator Reid. He said he would bring up the immigration bill again. Why? With this kind of humiliation how could he possibly speak of resurrecting this bill again in this Congress? First, he knows that the establishment overplayed their hand. Most of the real amendments which the Minority sought to vote on were forbidden. So if he permitted some of those votes, perhaps he could eek out a 60-plus majority to proceed again. And just maybe if some of these amendments were permitted a vote, he might be able to proceed to final passage. But I believe that the real reason Reid wants to bring up that wretched bill again was articulated by James Boulet, Jr. of the English First organization. On that highly emotional issue the Minority Party is bitterly split. That makes perfect sense. If he tries to proceed with that bill closer to the election, perhaps right after Labor Day in 2008, then it can be clear that is his purpose. Meanwhile, Senators can be sounded out by the White House as to what it would take to get their vote. This is where some Senators, especially those not up for re-election, might not mind trading their vote for a huge defense contract which would mean thousands of jobs for their state, or something akin to the Bridge to Nowhere, which so disgraced the last Congress.

Just watch. Reid may not be able to bring this monstrosity back to life, but he, as Majority Leader, can certainly manage to highlight the division in the Minority Party, the closer to the election the better.

It was said that talk radio was responsible for this outcome. As one of the heroes of the effort to kill the bill, Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), pointed out, the people who called were unusually informed and articulate and the vast majority of them were from the state of the Senator whose office they called. Talk radio merely explained what was in the bill. Talk radio even provided constituents with actual paragraphs of the bill. Talk radio didn't force anyone to call. What happened last week was reflective of what the ordinary voter, many of them Democrats, really thought. Talk radio was merely a facilitator.

In that regard, there is an effort to shut down talk radio by reinstating the so-called Fairness Doctrine. Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN), who, like yours truly, used to be a talk-show host, offered an amendment to an appropriations bill providing that no funds could be used to implement the Fairness Doctrine. Despite the full Majority Party Leadership's opposing the amendment, it passed with 309 votes. Over 100 Democrats voted with Pence. That was highly unusual in and of itself. But to have that many Democrats crossing the leadership of their own party is truly remarkable. The Pence victory is only good for a year, however. But Pence has a legislative bill which permanently would shut down the Fairness Doctrine. In a single day, he acquired more than 100 cosponsors. While that is encouraging, it should be noted that every Republican who voted supported the Pence Amendment, including every member of the GOP Leadership.

Hopefully Representative Pence can get some of the hundred Democrats who voted for the one-year bill to cosponsor. Thanks to an initiative by then Congressman James R. (Jim) Inhofe, Members who sign discharge petitions must do so out in the open. If the leadership tries to bottle up his bill in committee (unless he has a sufficient number of Democrats to vote out the bill) he can force the issue through a discharge petition which requires that a bill be scheduled for a vote once there are 218 signatures on the petition. He begins, most likely, with 202 Republicans. He has more than 100 Democrats to try to get the next 16 votes. That should be interesting.

Once again, the people spoke. If it were up to the leadership of the party in charge the Pence Amendment would have been deep-sixed. The sentiment was so strong that it overrode the leadership. That almost never happens.

Fortunately, in the Senate Minority Leader McConnell has issued an unusually strong statement against the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine.

And my old friend Trent Lott clarified what he meant by his previous statement - namely, that talk-radio is running the country and something has to be done about that. That just didn't sound like the Trent Lott I have known for close to 40 years. I need not worry. Lott says he is absolutely against reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. So if Senator Reid tries to attach that bill, supported by so many Democrats, in the middle of the night, he will encounter both McConnell and Lott. McConnell is really pro-freedom. He was a leading force in arguing that McCain/Feingold was unconstitutional when it attempted to regulate political speech.

Then there are the pernicious recommendations of the Progressive Policy Institute which are even worse than the Fairness Doctrine. But that is the topic for another day. That, says Pence, is the Fairness Doctrine by another means. Wow! What a day last week.

So, the next question is:
Where's The Fence?

That's the title of a new essay on my blog (click my name) where you can read how Chertoff, Bush's Sec DHS, is refusing to do his job of border enforcement.

That's right: refusing.

TIME: Why Amnesty Makes Sense
A recent cover story in TIME suggested it is time for amnesty. I read the facile, vacuous arguments they proffered. I could see this one coming --> two weeks later, TIME'S Inbox was full --> letters broke 90%(!) for: "amnesty makes no sense-- we need to enforce existing laws." TIME,
not exactly considered the neanderthal conservatives' favorite fish wrapper, admitted it was, "the biggest mail getter."

When people like Vicente Fox's artful shill Juan Hernandez and Geraldo bray, "Most Americans want a path to citizenship for these good people, our good friends," they are simply proffering the big lie. I actually like it when unctuous "smilin' Juan" Hernandez comes on TV to tell us that ILLEGALS are good for us, and Geraldo says they are not only net benefits, but also LESS prone to crime than citizens. Those tall ones/canards are GUARANTEED to rally Middle America! Middle America has just spoken to Congress as well as to TIME.

Fully 72% (per Rasmussen) of us believe that it is a high priority to secure the border and enforce our laws, and less than 30% care much about a path to citizenship for ILLEGALS. Our immigration system is broken because Washington has willfully allowed it to break becuase they are controlled by business $ and the lure of latino votes. It is time that we turn out the miscreant pols and reject the chamber tripe about "we must have their labors."

Too many inside the beltway have made Faustian self-aggrandizing deals for votes/money/power that are antithetical to the best socio-economic interests of America. We MUST stop the ILLEGAL invasion or lose America. Last week, we took the first step. An advanced economy cannot allow the undereductaed, poor, ethnocentric, culturally disparate to invade and permeate like a cancer-- it will eventually destroy the whole body.

my 2 cents
According to the author Talk Radio played a large part in the defeat of this bill.

No wonder they want to muzzle it

Don't sit on your laurels!
We may have won this round, but watch out!

The rabid Leftist aggitators do not give up so easily. It is why they have managed to successfully push and shove our country to the left for the past half century, regardless of the sentiments of the citizenry.

The leaders of the movement are promising another rally in the early fall, and continue to have lobbyists on Capitol Hill, constantly whining and pleading their case.

Meanwhile, most normal Americans will probably go back to their cushy sofas and their TV induced stupors, blissfully unaware of the continual effort to undermine the will of the people.

Congress is isolated from the people
They are not aware yet just how informed the people are about details and ramifications of something like this. They'd better wake up and smell the coffee, we are far better informed now thanks to the 'net and talk radio.

The thing that really chapped my hide
was the Orwellean term used by proponents of this Trojan Horse law.

They called it "Comprehensive Immigration Reform."

Sounds nice doesn't it?

Doesn't REFORM usually imply a return to the rule of law?

"Immigration reform?" the average joe might think. "That sounds good to me! Immigration is really out of control and needs reforming. I'm for that!"

Thank goodness that the word got out and the REAL meaning of the bill was made known before it was too late.

The Left, known for their Orwellean euphamisms really outdid themselves on this one.

immigration politics
I agree it would be just like "dumb as dirt" Sen Reid to bring this "comprehensive giveaway" back to debate just before the 2008 elections. the polls are solid that fully 50% of self-identified Democrats opposed this piece of crap sellout (a majority of Republican voters in opposition and even more self-identified "independents"); you can argue that the minority party's Senators in the US Senate are divided on this issue, but Reid should be wiser than to bring this emotionally charged debate up prior to an election when 50% of his party's voters are adamantly against it!

Mel Martinez and Eleven Other Repubs
The other Republicans who voted for the bill are Bennett, Craig, Graham, Gregg, Hagel, Kyl, Lott, Lugar, McCain, Snowe and Specter. Reform the Senate, not immigration. Among the 12 are egomaniacs, RHINOs, liberals, I-know-better-than-you little people, law breakers, etc. If these 12 had voted NO, the score would have been 34-65, a resounding defeat and Harry Reid would not think twice about bringing it up again for a long time.

The "Honorable" Trent Lott
As one who spent most of her life in Mississippi, I can remember when Mr. Lott was an honorable man in his own right, and many are the times when I was in the voter's box wishing that he represented my district in that election. Eventually he did, and I helped send him to Washington.

Only yesterday, Senator John Cornyn spoke on KSEV (local radio) and at a Republican Townhall meeting, calling the "Fairness Doctine" Orwellian. I liked what I heard from him.

Mr. Lott is now "honorable" only by act of congress.

Can't those politicians understand that Talk Radio is the sound of the "Silent Majority" screaming its head off?

Dems dont get it.
Remember when Bill & Hillary rode in on their white horse, and were going to pass a wild eyed federal health care plan. "We know whats best for you poor uninformed citizens." Same deal here. the Democrats dont have a clue, and to blame talk radio is totally an insult. Anyone who can read, knew this was a bad deal for our country. The President has all along been wrong on immigration reform and still is. Now perhaps common sense will prevail 1. Seal the borders, build the fence 2. Register the illegals 3. Pass stiff felony laws for any employer caught using illegals 4. Deport any illegal caught breaking the law 5. Help those already here, and have proven they support our laws, can speak english, have a clean record, willing to pay the fine, to become citizens.

Actually
we may want to thank the music business for becoming so horribly non-musical!!
I do truly believe a lot of people turned to talk radio, in the first place, because modern music became so bad and we were so sick of hearing the older "good" stuff over and over. Soon we were hooked, and the rest is history.
A good friend does a radio show here in Jacksonville that is all the other good music from the albums of the 70's, 80's, 90's, that were never played by the majority of stations. His exact effort is to lure the talk radio crowd back to music. I told him good luck.

TeeHall
Don't forget about Brownback - he voted for the bill on Thursday, and then about 10 minutes later (after the monster was dead) he sneaked back in and voted against it. I guess he thought no one would notice. So his miserable performance doesn't get lumped in with the other RINOs - but to me he is even worse. I can't say much for the others, but at least they had the nerve to let their betrayal hang out in the light of day.

So the government voted...
for freedom of speech - as long as it was tied to an appropriations bill.

THis is the same government that will vote to put cameras on every corner and hire a hundred thousand watchers (to apprehend terrorists after Americans have died) rather than enforce the borders and immigration laws, and stop and deport visa criminals, perhaps in order to prevent the attack in the first place.

As in the last election, if the republicans want, they can make it a one issue election: immigration.

Repeat after me: Any vote for a Dem will be a vote for instant and permanent amnesty. Once more!

Ron 8:04 am
Right on Ron, NOW the rest of those egomanics need to hear from the "little "LOUD" people".
Lets start with Chertoff and Homeland Insecurity!
His telling us that he "can't" enforce the laws is totally ridiculous! He needs to have his inbox inundated from the little people!
I'm so tired of Congress telling us we need to accept all these illegal aliens that I'm ready to scream. 1/3 of my Daughter's small town of Sturgis, Michigan is now Mexicans! (this is from the Mayor of Sturgis) The self same Mayor who said we need to "embrace the Diversity", and accept them legal or illegal! The Mayor also said that local, county, and State police would do NOTHING about the illegals!!! Because it is a federal problem. So that means if they catch them making drugs, they do nothing, as it is a Federal problem??? How comforting for the Illegals! With their Red, White, and Green Mexican stores with the Mexican flag painted on the side, fitting right in eh???
I would be willing to accept some of them, BUT NOT if they have broken any laws other than the one of sneaking in, in the first place. We all know they have broken another if they are working here, right? I mean how can you possibly have a VALID SS# if you aren't legal???
So they have either fake ID's, Stolen ID's, or are working under the table!!! Just the kind of neighbor we have all been hankering for!
BUT if they are caught driving drunk, dealing drugs, or many other crimes, send them packing families and all, after all they have those anchor babies for a reason, to tug at legal Americans heart strings about breaking up the familia. Like they are clueless about that!

Nick in Austin!
You are spot on!!!
The Democratic congress is even lower than the Republican one!
ANYONE who runs on sealing the border, going after the employers, and making their lives as miserable as they have made ours, then they will WIN!!!
In my opinion, voting Democrat in the next electin will be the END of the Republican party, as watch those liberal bills come in at our peril!

keep it up!
The only thing that is going to get Washington's attention is if the RINOs that sold us out on this are KICKED OUT of office. I've never been so aware/informed of where each state's Senator stands. I intend to give my paltry $20 to whom I consider the best challenger to the likes of Lott, Graham, McCain, Hagel et al. If we all do this...rather than blindly give to the RNC...what a change in politics. Towards the end of my '30 a day' calls last, week, I got bolder and bolder telling the interns, 'no...I'm not from your state, but this vote directly effects all of us.' I think if D.C. knew we were ALL watching ALL of them..things would change. After Thursday...I called the offices of Brownback, Lott, Hagel, Graham and others and informed them of my intentions.

For myself...I'll never stop staying as informed and engaged as I have been over this issue...I'm sure many of you feel the same.

Yippee for the people!!

Lying rotten scum
The leadership of BOTH political parties are so far out fo touch with the American people that the MAJORITY of voters won't vote for any of their lying scum candisates. They try to cram thier anti-American treason down our throats , sell out our country for ill gotten personal gain, and expect Americans to vote for the rotten bast***s.

Bush, Kennedy, McCain, CLinton, Hussein Obama, none of he the rotten scumballs are even willing to listen to real Americans.

You might think that a candidate for election would notice that the MAJORIY of Ameicans will no longer vote for any of the liars. A huge opportunity to get elected awasits an honest candidate who representes real Americans, not the political machines. But the lying scum is so vested in their anti-American political machines that they never listen.

The Liberals are LOUSY Poker Players!
It seems to me The Liberals are tipping their hand:
01. Scamnesty
02. Government Health Insurance
03. Fairness Doctrine

HOW MUCH EASIER CAN IT GET?! If you know what your opponent is going to do, bluff them into position and LAY THEM OUT!

The devious McConnell
Like Brownback, Mitch McConnell waited until he saw how the vote was going to turn out, then switched positions to be on the winning side. This was widely noted.

we'll see...
I'm gonna send in $40 bucks to his primary challenger!! That'll show 'im!!

Government, not immigration, reform.
In 1986, "The Immigration Reform and Control Act" became 'the law'. A younger Senator Ted Kennedy was 'supportive' and even told us what that law would accomplish' Twenty-one years later, apparently reading from the same notes, he told us what the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill would do -- while denigrating the 1986 law -- also 'comprehensive and bi-partisan'.

A high percentage of those who voted for the bill in 1986 are STILL in Congress, while many others who decry that law as 'unenforceable' and 'unworkable' have had many years to MAKE it workable and enforceable -- some were even elected in 1986 or 1988.

The answer -- as was pointed out by others -- is that WE need to reform Congress We know that Congress will not reform itself, and a previous Supreme Court ruled that the States can not individually reform it themselves by term limiting laws.

The ballot box seems to be the only current solution, but it is very hard to get voters to turn down the bribes -- most of them believing the bribes they accept are not wrong, seemingly believing only bribes that benefit 'others' are wrong. Until we, the People openly admit that ANY bribe -- offered or accepted -- is wrong no matter how it may be called -- benefits, assistance, welfare, tax credits or exemptions or ANYTHING a politician 'takes' from some to 'give away' to others or that treats some people as unworthy of being treated equal to every other citizen -- nothing will change and it will likely get worse.

After all, how many American citizens voted for their candidate to represent foreign nationals -- even those here illegally? Essentially, THAT was what was going on with ALL the "Immigration Reform" packages from 1986 onward and many other interim laws and executive orders. For that matter, how many voters even considered that the 'bribes' being paid from money forcibly taken out of their own pockets may well be the 'reason' so many Americans won't 'take' certain jobs?

I could go on and on, but my conclusion is that the 'power elite' in Congress and other places are the bottom line CAUSE of most of the problems faced by "We, the Citizens". How many Beltway 'solutions' have actually done what it was proclaimed that they would do? Frankly, I know of none that actually resulted in 'healing' and 'uniting' all Americans together. Predominately we have seen a 'Balkanizing', turning citizens against each other.

Talk Radio
The reason that the liberals don't like it is that they are unable to compete in the market place of ideas.

Ron 8:04AM Some GOP's don't get it too.
Your suggestions #'s 2 and 5 are what America voted against. #2: Don't register them and thus give them XYZ cards...this was part of the Scamnisty Bill snowjob to register, allow 24 hours to run a criminal check, and give them your car. Don't buy it, don't support it, just deport them....the only registration they need is exit registration. #5: Do they prove they support our laws because they haven't (yet) killed someone while DUI ? It doesn't matter what language they speak...if they're illegal aliens they're out of here! They have up to 8 years to "pay the fine". Thats 51 bucks a month to buy U.S. Citizenship.

It was impossible to get through to
Mel Martinez's office. The only way to do it was to tell the DEMOCRAT Senator from Florida (Bill Nelson) to tell Mel to back off the amnesty bill.

I hope the voters give Mel Martinez the boot in the next election. He doesn't represent Florida's interests or the interests of America and he is one big reason why the RNC is losing money.

FIRE HIM!

*****************************************

Did anybody miss how Carlos Gutierrez, Mel Martinez, Ken Salazar, and Roberto Menendez who are all rich hispanics were omnipresent together telling us what a good thing the reconquista would be for us, but nobody in the MM suggested that ethnocentric racism was in play? Throw in Vicente Fox shill "smilin' Juan" Hernandez and Geraldo for that matter, and myriad spokespersons for La Raza, LULAC, etc.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/15/AR2007051502022.html

Gabby makes a good point-- Pan-Mexican Presidente Jorge helped make Martinez head of thE RNC (Rino Network for reConquista), but this is helping drive Republicans away from the current RINO Party.

This globalist, open borders, multicultural, bilingual, NAU/SPP, scamnesty (bring them out of the shadows with a path to citizenship) disingenuous drivel tripe is alienating Middle America. The ILLEGAL alien invasion and permeation will destroy America like a cancer destroying the host body UNLESS we radiate it at the source. We need to secure the border and enforce EXISTING laws.

Fully 72% consider this a HIGH priority (Rasmussen) while < 30% care much about a path to citizenship for the serial lawbreakers. It is NOT that "our immigration system is broken"-- au contraire, it is nonfeasance by our government which instead serves as a welcome mat south of the border. Presidente Jorge is the Quisling-In-Chief. We need to keep rattling their cages in Washington where cheap labor lobbying $ and latino votes direct their thinking against the best socio-economic interests of America. YOU can contact them easily right here-- bookmark it and give them a piece of your mind regularly-- in English!

What they meant by Comprihensive...
Somewhere in all the back and forth it became clear to me that there was one reason, and one reason only, why this absolutely – positively HAD to be a comprehensive omnibus bill, and not three separate bills focusing on the three issues involved.

That way they would get to have their Hensive (spell that amnesty)
And we would be left wondering about our Compri (spell that enforcement of the law)

Good old fashioned Bait-And-Switch.
And now their angry we didn’t fall for it like we were supposed to.

Lott vs. Hannity
Lott missed a talk appointment on Hannity's radio show but they caught up with him the next day. He said he "was busy clearing stumps by towing a bush hog behind a tractor". It's clear that he should have said, not that he was "towing a bush hog", but that he was being "pushed by THE BUSHHOG" into voting for amnisty and against America. As these Senators become old and confused they will sometimes ignore the wishes of their constituants and vote the wishes of their Bushhog Massa'. This does not settle well in Mississippi.

I agree with you on the keep it up!

Fortunately Americans have seen, for once, they can actually make a difference. We did it. We can do it again. We are no longer hindered by lack of information and ways to let Congress know our views. We have power we have not had before to make our voices and opinions heard.

I honestly believe (and pray) that this will make the difference in whether or not people continue to be riled up enough to fight for our liberty and Republic.

Middle America is awake and roaring. We will "keep it up" I think.

Happy Independence Day! How true it is.

sbmcgraw
I'm with you. I spent a lot of time lobbying Senators who were NOT from my home state, and now I am also spending time writing to thanks Senators who voted no, especially those from other states and even Democrats who consistently support security and border patrol FIRST and who voted NO against amnesty.

Like you, I have never been so aware of what legislators from other states are doing. But it's necessary, isn't it, because so many times the leadership on an issue comes from a state other than one's own.

To me, the two next agenda items that take precedent over everything are to get the barrier fence built and to add A LOT of border patrol. This MUST be done soon.

Thank Mc Connell????

Mitch (switch) Mc Connell said he was for this shamnesty because the horsey owners and farms could not make it without illegals. I feel so sorry to hear they are so needy.

Switch is up for reelection. Could this be why he changed his vote???? His phone, e-mails-and fax were overloaded. His fingers were up in the air. He has proven he can not be trusted. Do not give him a chance to shoot us down. Do not praise him for changing his vote. He has never voted for middle America.

talk radio
they put out the clarion call to action. When they highlighted an issue that invoked the ire of the voting public a firestorm was lit. It becomes our responsibility to hold congresses feet to the fire. But all issues need to be discussed and that hass to be the primary role of talk radio, But the citizens bear the responsibility of voting congress into power. We must take a harder look at our representatives and senators and when they prove to be self serving bums, more in tune with appeasing special interest rasther than representing their constituents we need to send the bums into retirement. Plus laws need to be changed so that after being faithful lap dogs to special interests they can't reap further paydays by gaining employment at lobbyists for those special interest. Too many of us have voted for the incumbent knowing full well of their failures. We need to be vigilent and fully understand what our elected officials are doing. This shamnesty bill only highlighted the disconnect between the voters and the president and the senators. The staus quo should never be acceptable

Gabby 6:25AM
Both FL Senators voted against America and Floridians of both parties need to replace both. Nelson (D-FL) is a former astronaut who received too many overdoses of gamma rays and thus is a bumbling airhead but his office will lie to you. They told me that "He did not vote for amnesty, he only voted for closure".

Senator Mel (rhymes with Fidel) Martinez (R-FL) is a Communist who has voted to approve sanctuary cities, and cast the deciding Senate vote to give Social Security to Illegal Aliens. He and Graham have received rewards from La Raza for selling out America. Go to http://www.youtube.com and enter la Raza to see what America is up against. Both need to be voted out but don't get close to Martinez. He is considered armed and dangerous because he carries a razor in his shoe and will use it against you.

BillInOrlando

As usual, Lott was lying.

Bush hogs are for mowing.

If you try to remove stumps with them you just ruin the blades while having very little effect on the stump.

A STUMP GRINDER, now... THAT will take care of some stumps.

BOTH Senators from Virginia...
(Warner and Webb) switched votes during the week.

They each voted early in the week to re-activate debate, etc.

Then they each voted against cloture on the 28th.

I'm still not going to vote to re-elect either of them.

Hey, WayneS
Webb ran on a platform against amnesty, then consistently voted for this bill right up to the end when he began to fear for his seat. And his smugness at insulting Bush at the White House reception for newly elected officials, and his smug response to the State of the Union Address all indicate to his native Virginian that he has a way too inflated view of himself. I read recently that a lot of people were relieved when the left his Secretary of the Navy spot. He needs to be relieved of his Senator spot too. An opportunist of the worst sort!

Hey, Bill in Orlando
I told the RNC I will not give money as long as Rupublicans continue to support scamnesty. That means as long as Mel Martinez is at the head. I will be moving to Florida this month. If it is possible, I will vote against Mel Martinez. When I heard on O'Reilly that he thought it was a good idea for the presidential candidates to have campaign debates in Spanish, I nearly gagged. We speak ENGLISH here. Learn it or get out. BTW, every time now that I call an agency and I have to "choose 1 for Enlish", I end my call by asking the person helping me to forward my complaint to their supervisor. I tell them if the agency wants to offer its services in another language, let people choose that language. By having to choose English, it implies that the default language is Spanish and that burns my butt. Everyone should start complaining. The people I have talked to were suprised to learn about the greeting and sympathetic to my position. We need to fight any encroachment on our national language.

"Rand"y

I agree 100%.

Missing some points
I think from reading here a lot of you have been fooled. I wish I still had the link to the story that someone posted on a previous blog here. The story was that an insider on the hill blew the whistle that they had come up with a plan to allow Senators to save face. The plan was to allow them to change their vote on cloture and get it to the floor. Then if they could get enough to get it passed, no problem. However, if, they continued to get so much resistance from the American people they could then change their vote and kill it on the floor fooling their constituants into believing that they were helping them kill Scamnesty. My two Senator here in NM voted as such...Yea, Nay..Then after this plan...Yea, Nay. In a Border state that has an unbelievable problem with illegals what does that show you? It shows that they have no desire to stem the flow and secure America. Also it shows that they will do anything to stay among the elites and their special interest groups getting rich while they bankrupt us all. This is all smoke and mirrors and any Senator's who voted in this way should not be re-elected. I wish I knew if there was a reacll for this state.

The government is very angry about talk radio because it bit them in the a##. The immigration reform was a smoke screen for the NAU, SPP which in reality opened the borders, sold out America and allowed for the RFID chipping so that all citizens could be tracked and controlled by the government. If you dont believe that go to Youtube.com and see some of the RFID vids that are from the companies that are actually making them and showing all their uses. There already chipping people in Scottland for easy pay options. But I digress, the government wants to kill talk radio for one reason and one reason only...They don't want people pointing out the truth and throwing a wrench into their system to make a one world government and completely have us in their control. They then would censor the internet along with taking all of our guns away and effectivly making this country..and all the world one police state. Don't you find it intersting that the President and Vice-President are not only stating they are above the Executive branch, but that they are taking measures to make it so. And if not challenged and changed the next President will have uncontrolled powers and God forbid that would be HillBillary. Then this country would be Socialists and effectivly sold out with scamnesty.

They refuse to inforce the laws currently in effect since that does not help them bring in the NAU, SPP and one world government. The old addage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," could apply here. They have never tried to enforce it and start the attrition back to Mexico, so how can they know it don't work as they try to claim. I mean, if you were to make a car that was susposed to be the best and most efficient in the world and then never tested it, can you then say it doesnt work lets fix it by building another? No! But the elites and their special interest groups would have you believe that.

And another thing. They say we cant possibly get rid of all the illegals in this country. I disagree! Maybe not all but most of them we could and I can tell you how. If the government has trouble finding criminals that are on their most wanted list, what do they do? We'll they help fund shows like, "Americas Most Wanted." They can't do their job effectivly and they turn to the American people. And what happens? Usually sonner than later the criminal that was profiled is caught. So here is my suggestion. Have a show called, "America's Least Wanted," that calls for the help of the public in tracking down all of the illegals hiding in the shadows in America. Offer a monitary reward to legal citizens for the capture and deportation of these illegals and each week feature the biggest and most intense immigrant busts and show the results...i.e. deportation, release per status. I guarentee when they do that and offer rewards they will not be able to keep up with the amount of calls they would get. And that would be good too cause then they would have to make it a local law issue to so they would have to help get these people deported instead of it just being a Federal issue. Also they need to show the children being deported with the parents..The children who's parents can't prove one of the parents was a U.S. citizen. The 14th Ammendment allows for anchor babies if one parent was legal. This would help get rid of, not only all the illegals but of the almost 3.6 miiilon illegal children here in this country. It would be hard to see kids suffer but the Bible does state that the sin's of the father will be visted on the child for so many generations. Why reward children who have no right to be called anchor babies, when their parents broke the laws? I feel for them, but their not citizens!

Lastly, we need to find out how, or what group is doing a grass roots to light a fire under the a## of congress and the President and the DHS to start enforcing the laws we alread have and provide the funding for the fence that was passed. We need to also light a fire under the a## of the state governments to start helping by, cutting off all benifits..i.e..welfare, free lunches, assistance payments, housing assistance, free medical and other programs that make them want to stay. Start fining and raiding the companies that are hiring illegals, crack down on landlords that allow illegals to rent (and even if one is legal, turn them in for harboring criminals if illegals reside there too). This is the only way to effectvly start to control the issues if we want to help control and limit the elites who think they can sell our country out and make us slaves. I havent been able to find 1 web site that seems to face all these issues and wants to gather all their reserves to help make this happen. What I think is that all these grass roots site and any site that is against reform and wants to stand strong against any issue and get the fires started to make things happens need to all ban together and join their members to grow our numbers where we can't be ignored. They could share costs and web domain space and start an information revelution for monitoring and control of the government which, I need not remind you, was set up, "of the people, by the people and for the people," not, "of the elites, by the elites, and for the elites(not their slave class)."

What else can we do?

WHERE'S THE DA## FENCE?

reply to : Stormy
Boy did you "blow in," Stormy! Agree 100% It is all one massive shell game in Washington trying to cram scamnesty upon us... their overarching motivations are lobbying $ and latino votes.

Of course once we give 15 million ILLEGALS the vote (which need not await amnestia by the way... they are already voting in a number of places), they will ineluctably vote for big entitlement government, and the GOP will never win again. It is an absurd facile myth that the GOP might appeal to those alleged "conservative social values." People vote their pocketbooks, and what kind of conservative values are associated with pandemic rates of social pathologies including crimes, gangs, drugs, illegitimacies, school dropouts, foreign language dependence, barrio blight, etc., ad nauseam.

This is a fight to save traditional America... they can outgun us right now because they are better organized and funded, but we knocked them on their axxes last week! We MUST keep up the good and sacred fight!

Please see my post here to learn how YOU can easily get involved and learn more about saving America from the Conspiracy of Evil:

We the People
What all this shows us is that if we really are We the People, we must, as the Founders warned us, be vigilant.

What we’ve tended to do is think we elect people to do what we think we’ve told them to do. The reality is that less and less are WE electing anyone.

Why else is someone like Ted Kennedy still in office, for instance? Does Massachusetts REALLY keep electing him? That just doesn’t make sense.

What the defeat of the immigration bill should indicate to all – president, legislators, SCOTUS, and We the People, is that there’s a new way to come together, disseminate and debate information, and be heard above the backstage string pullers. It’s the Internet.

That legislators and the president should be so surprised and angry at what We the People did to defeat this amnesty legislation, should tell We the People more clearly than any other thing, that We the People have not been in control of our own government for far too long, and that we daren’t relinquish this new, tentative grasp. It’s the Internet that’s given us back our right to control our government.

The reason the legislators are reacting by bringing up again the “fair use” issue is only to attempt to silence us by cutting off the previously underestimated power of the Internet.

Just as when it first registered on Congress’s radar and the legislators were so woefully ignorant and out of touch they thought the “Information Super Highway” was a real physical road, and they attempted to impose certain highway regulations on it, they are once again stung by this untouchable, uncontrollable, free and open method of communication that by-passes their propaganda mills, gate keepers and handlers.

Pay special, careful heed: if they are allowed to regulate the Internet, we may as well be resigned to existing in a Gulag. It will happen.

This isn’t about race, neighborliness, trade, or the general welfare, tolerance, or fairness. It’s about who controls lives.

If we would maintain any control over our own lives, WE the People MUST respect and protect and never take lightly the one tool that levels the playing field for us, that once again makes our “elected” officials only our specifically tasked representatives, nothing less, nothing more.

Through the Internet we once again can know what each other is really thinking, where real agreement and disagreement are, what proposed legislation – potential laws ruling our lives – really says and contains, and change our government to reflect us, not the faceless, nebulous string-pullers, whomever they are.

Hold the Internet close; know it is our only weapon against those who would impose their control over us for their own pleasure.

This isn’t some game; my life isn’t some video Nintendo or Game Boy game. Is yours?

Don’t let our government treat us like that. They got a rude awakening last week. Make sure they take it to heart and never again gain control of the joystick!

It doesn’t take special interests, lobbyists, multi-millions of dollars, to participate in government anymore. It just takes an Internet connection.

Don’t let them regulate it; don’t let them tax it. Don’t let them dictate what, who, why, and how. Be responsible for what you allow on your computer. Be responsible for how your child uses computers, cell phones, iPods, etc. Don’t give the corrupt government string-pullers an excuse to limit our Internet access, because that will by definition cut off any real participation we could have in government, forever.

As many of you have pointed out several times, things have gone so far already that if we don’t seize this opportunity to turn things around right here, right now, it is all lost. Strangely, but undeniably, forever has arrived. The Internet is our last, best (REALLY BEST!!!!) hope and means of righting ourselves and our country.

Don’t hand it back to them!!!!

The “fairness” bill may not seem so significant compared to the threat of Islam, international relations and trade, etc., but it is. All else falls, if they pass that one. We will have our throats cut to prevent us uttering a single opposing sound from then on.

It was the Internet that gave us our victory last week, not talk radio. Talk radio is a red herring; it could be heard even by those legislators who still cannot be bothered with the Internet themselves, still “doing business” the old ways. It couldn’t have made a difference if the Internet weren’t there as a vehicle to begin with.

Our victory – in their previously ignorant eyes – was a stealth attack, but like the lizard whose tail the cat got, they’ll be more careful about our ability to communicate and mobilize effectively from now on. Don’t, like the complacent cat who thinks because the thing wiggles it’s the lizard, think we got the beast.

The Internet is our popular voting booth now. Use it well, guard it well.

They have no choice but to pay attention. As long as we choose to make them pay attention.

Someone mentioned somewhere (on another thread another time) that the people can write and submit to Congress bills/laws for legislative consideration. Why can’t we do that with illegal immigration enforcement, border security, “fairness” in media/communications, taxing the Internet, and taxation, period? Isn’t the IRS, as part of OUR government, supposed to be working FOR us, not against us?

We the People have only begun to flex our new-found – RECOVERED!!!! – muscles. July 4 is INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!

We the People: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Then let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work on this decaying government!

Irony
The elites say the amnesty bill failed because talk radio told the people to oppose it. In reality, it is the people who told talk radio what to say about it.

Isn't it ironic that Rush Limbaugh, who works in private enterprise and is deaf, is better at listening to the people than the DC elites who have perfect hearing and, ostensibly, are elected to SERVE the people.

About that "Press 1 for English" thingy...

American citizens speak English, even naturalized Americans must pass an English-language exam in order to become US citizens.

Thus, the government should have one phone number dedicated to American citizens (English speakers) and a totally different phone number for non-citizens (foreign language-speakers).

The citizen call-in lines should get the most funding and whatever is left over in the budget could be used to accomodate the non-Americans who choose not to learn the language of the country they are living in...

Grey Cat
After your post, I immediately started thinking of Thomas Paine(?) and his "Common Sense" pamphlets.
All in all, a fairly well done call to arms.

Combined Voices Stopped Me,Me,Me Voice
__Great praise can be sung for all the voices used to deep six this outrageous legislation. The doctrine of truth allowed those voices to broadcast the harmony of this republic.Drowning out the bewitching melody of the liberals siren song.Looks like the liberal sirens had some deserters,to save their behinds. In actuality America held her hired directors responsible to Americas composition.I pray we all continue to work together, and drive the liberal sirens out of Americas political domain. Back to their rocky coastline, from whence they came. The notes of their me,me,meeeeeeeee song drifting off across the waters.

Gray Cat, AMEN to that.
__We all need to stay on the ball.Think about how Vt.s ex-Gov. Dean used the internet in his campaign, and how Odrama is doing the same. The majority of the support they get from the internet is the younger, electronic crowd. Many of them easily fall into the embrace of the liberal promise. It's very easy to fall under spell of big government solutions for all problems, when one hasn't even learned of governments role. I have learned that,in this time, many never learn this unless influenced by an outside source. The educational system is now intensely promoting social studies,in place of,and over history. My son,in 7th grade this year, had a great education in Islam,Muslim, and the middle east,in his social studies class.I've got to admit thou, they did spend a short time on Christianity, and Judaism. His reading text for the summer is various American history books, and of course the Bible. There is no way I will send him out in this world without the tools to survive.

What a Day Last Week
Nelson is not a former Astronaut. He invited himself on to a Space Shuttle flight when he was a member of the house of representives. He was a payload specialist. NASA flew himon the shuttle to prevent him from getting angry and cutting the NASA budget.

Khan-Nelson
Thanks for info......looks like the b.s. is as deep at Nelson's organization as it is at that communist Martinez's.

Talk radio does not control the people,
the people control talk radio via ratings and support of the advertising that buys time on talk radio.

Talk radio is the only form of broadcast media where conservatives have a place to express themselves. Fox News is the only non-radio broadcast media where conservatives have a place to express themselves.

These two forms of media threaten the Liberals because those that want information to make an educated decisions turn to them and away from the liberal controlled media where almost everything is tainted with anti-conservative hate or fear mongering, class warfare, and divisiveness.

Those that call for such things as a fairness doctrine are simply exposing their socialist agenda. Any attempt to control talk radio or Fox News is an attempt to control the voice of the people. Only socialists resort to government control of the air waves, or the content on them, and that is intended to limit information not deemed as acceptable to be disbursed among the common people.

We need to stay active, just as we became with the immigration bill, and oppose any attempt by the socialists that seek to take our freedoms from us.

Oh, I noticed!

He is one of my two Senators and I am well aware of his change. I am looking to locally join or start a recall campaign against him. I also oppose his Presidential campaign.

I'd love to get my hands on the tape of him doing that for future use in those efforts.

I'm proud of my other Senator, Pat Roberts for his continual opposition for the immigration bill from the day it was introduced.

A tardy post, but wanted to give each of you a "Well Done"! Some fine points were made by all!

And...sorry
that the residents of MA still elect TK. Hopefully things will change in the next election. Why Romney didn't stay put and run for the senate here, I don't know.

We're hoping Curt Shilling will have had enough baseball by election time to run AND WIN in the next race! It seems the folks in Red Sox Nation might just go along with that candidate! And he is a true conservative! He stood tall for the Republicans while the entire owner/management group stood up beside John Kerry last time.
