Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Is there any governmental goofiness Democrats won’t support?

Having abandoned limited government, Democrats are left with mere prejudice as a guide: As long as a program uses the power of the federal forces in Washington, and, in at least some backhanded way, increases that power, it just “must” be good.

There’s one exception, I guess — when Republicans think of it first.

So, what’s next?

Charity. Governments now duplicate a lot of charitable efforts. But charities remain somewhat independent. For too many politicians, that’s a bug, not a feature.

When Alexis de Tocqueville visited American shores on his 19th century sociological survey, he was astounded at how vibrant Americans were regarding charity and social betterment. See a problem? Then do something. Americans formed committees. Societies. Projects. They went to work. They accomplished things.

Now, though, after years of government usurpation of many of those causes, and the creation of a vast Leviathan state that Tocqueville did not witness this side of the Atlantic, our voluntary community sector seems weak. But that may be an optical illusion, in comparison with the old days . . . and with that very same federal government. In any case, it is said that Americans increasingly “bowl alone”; and, alone, become increasingly disengaged from their communities, their neighborhoods, etc.

The solution?

Join a local group, take to the soapbox, ring doorbells, hold festivals and bake sales and seminars? Publicize your cause using the new tools of the Internet . . . or that retro mimeograph machine you bought for 50¢ at the flea market? Raise money, and direct it to specific goals? Lead by example?

No. That wouldn’t do. Can’t have anything like that! Why, such techniques might actually smack of good ol’ American can-do-edness.

What we need, apparently, is more government.

Why? Well, ask Barack Obama, the Democrats’ presumptive nominee for the presidency.

His solution is to bureaucratize charity. Regularize it. Marshal the people of the United States into renewed “service” under massive federal programs.

“Service.” Ah, it sounds almost yummy, at least to the Judging Amy crowd. But it comes with a catch. It would all be organized in Washington.

Just what we need, another FEMA, FBI, or (heavens!) Department of Education. Or, as Obama himself recently put it, a humungous new department, filled with civilians doing good deeds, and funded on the order of the $439 billion-a-year Defense Department:

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

Barack Obama says he’s a leader on this issue. Not merely does he seek to become Spender-in-Chief, he promises to “set a goal,” his website says, for “all middle and high school students” to engage in at least “50 hours of community service a year.” That requirement would double for college students.

After generations of governmental gear-grinding and dashed promises, Obama still unashamedly cranks out the Old Time Religion: Barack Obama will “develop national guidelines for service-learning and will give schools better tools both to develop programs and to document student experience.” Ah, yes, those national guidelines! They’ve worked so well in the past.

Obama wants to “invest in the Nonprofit Sector,” too. He talks about “federal seed money” and “leveraging” the private sector to innovate (locally, at first), and test new ideas, and then — yes, then-and-only-then — “expand successful programs to scale.”

Of course, Obama’s party has resisted the testing of federal programs since the days of “scientific” Progressivism. And the federal government has proven itself incompetent at choosing and prioritizing anything. Adding a vast array of now-voluntary non-profits into this realm, and organizing and nurturing and training them, can only be described with one word:

IDIOTIC.

The idea that the least responsible element of modern society would be tasked to prop up America’s allegedly waning volunteer spirit has all the merit of trying to break dance one’s way out of a minefield.

Apparently too politic to support complete socialism, Obama’s not arguing to nationalize Microsoft and Apple. He’s arguing, in effect, to nationalize the Elks. Oh, and the local hospital, and a million other independent institutions.

He aims to bring them all in. To government.

And we’re not supposed to notice?

Of course, it’s not as if Republicans haven’t prepared the way for this very moment, when such a preposterous notion now possesses a snowball’s chance of starting an avalanche. Indeed, the whole “faith-based charity” movement is nothing but one sure step (and precedent) in Obama’s maniacal direction.

This is not change we can believe in. This is change we must snort at in utter derision.

Obama’s new movement is the same old socialistic usurpation as before, disguised as aid — and starting out as voluntary, except for the funding source — but now targeted at the most vulnerable section of society, the section that really does, earnestly, wish to improve things. Senator Obama is correct that “the American people are . . . the answer.” But not as cogs in some massively expensive federal program.

The best thing that one can say for Obama’s call for service is that it might even be too stupid for Congress.

But that remains to be seen. Congress is filled with Democrats, and other politicians.

How about 500 hrs of public service for
all politicians?

Obama a puppet?
Srange, how a little known Senator from Chicago, with little experience or accomplishment, has been from day one, so well financed and so scripted. Strange. Has anyone thought to follow the money?

Service to replace faith
I completely agree with this column. People see a problem and think that the government needs to be the one doing something to fix it. This has eroded individual feeling of need to do community service and help each other out.

This is replacing a church function, and that doesn't work well.

The interesting confusion for religious liberals is that Jesus _does_ want us to individually do many of the things the left wants. We should feed and clothe the less fortunate, and take care of those in need. However, this is NOT the same as the government performing these functions.

Imagine if it were possible to have a perfectly functioning utopian socialist society. This would be an aChristian society, because nobody would have to care enough to lift a finger to help anyone else out. They would just a have to pay their taxes.

A great example of this Christian ethic can be found in the Amish community. They fought against, and won, the right to not pay or receive social security. They had several reasons, but the main one is that they take care of their own, and do not think it should be a government responsibility.

The first three paragraphs of 'part one' of this link should be how Christians view this matter:
http://www.amishnews.com/amisharticles/amishss.htm

Of course he is a puppet
MoveOn, Code Pink, and all the George Soros organizations are behind him. Obama got a ready-to-go political organization and lots and lots of money. Just as Al Gore showed us how to get Bhuddist Nuns to give thousands of dollars in 1996, the Obama web site donation system could be fiddled to launder huge illegal contributions.

And, has anyone noticed that he wears an earphone, and on one occassion he was asked an embarrasing question, and, the room went silent, and Obama clutched his earphone and said, I can hear myself thinking. What this suggests is that he could not hear someone's instructions as to what to say.

But, increasingly, he must be getting somewhat independent because his statements are getting crazier -- like proposing a civilian force costing as much as the Department of Defense for government run "do-good" programs.

God help us!

Or
is there a more sinister reason for that socalled civilian force?

Troubling
I find Obama's proposal to nationalize volunteerism extraordinarily troubling. If I'm not mistaken, described a fair number of his ideas on the matter in a speech delivered on 2 July 2008 that receieved almost no attention from the press. One truly troubling aspect of what he proposed was some kind of a online service in which a volunteer's hours and service could be recorded. Recorded for what?

I'm terribly concerned that too many faith-based organizations have become dependent on the teat of federal-government grants. And especially when it comes to Christian organizations, I really have to wonder, "Where's the faith in that organization's fundraising when it decides to prostitute itself to the federal government for federal grant money?" Isn't part of faith that God will show up with the resources to accomplish what He wants accomplished?

Obama's additional regulation of the faith-based organizations that receive grant money strikes me as very sinister. Faith-based organizations should just start saying no to federal grant money whether Obama is elected or not. And if he is, get ready for Big Brother scrutiny like you wouldn't believe.

Sorry for the Echo
McCain's campaign needs to start slamming this idea, though it must be done tactfully. I volunteer extensively (tutoring) and give generously, but that's my choice and I don't need to a federal government program in place to "encourage" or, who knows, to require it.

The f*** if I'm going along with some federal program allowing an Obama administration to monitor the volunteer efforts of my kids. Are Obama supporters crazy? This is the creepiest thing I've ever seen. The Peace Corps and Americorps--great, have at it. But nationalizing volunteerism? No f***ing way. There's a pretty good reason underlying the expression "charity begins at home": charity and service should be taught within families and within local community activities such as churches, synagogues, and the like.

Wake up people. It sounds good in theory, but do we need a nation of "community organizers" who accomplished as little as Obama during his years in Chicago. Riding the crest of the wave of affirmative action, Obama certainly reads a good game off a teleprompter, but I d*** well want my kids growing up much more accomplished than this clown.

Compare the life of service of McCain and Obama. McCain came very close to losing his life, while Obama has always been running off to campaign for the next political office up the rung.

Start Now!
Volunteer in your neighborhood to canvas the area for the Obama campaign. Tell your neighbors that Barack wants them to report the charitable activities of their family to his campaign headquarters so they can best direct others to areas that are not being served. Let's get a jump on this, get ahead of the curve so to speek, so that our fearless leader can make our lives better!

Too stupid for Congress?
Not hardly. They are actually considering raising the gas tax by 10 cents per gallon! If they are going to do that...NOW, they will approve of Obamessiah's plans for socialism in "volunteering".

YO, VITO!
Apparently, you missed a paragragh:

"Of course, it’s not as if Republicans haven’t prepared the way for this very moment, when such a preposterous notion now possesses a snowball’s chance of starting an avalanche. Indeed, the whole “faith-based charity” movement is nothing but one sure step (and precedent) in Obama’s maniacal direction."

OK, not exactly a rousing denuciation, but Jacobs certainly didn't ignore or endorse the Republican's culpability in the scheme.

Ulti-Nanny State
Not only do they want us to pay for the Nanny State, now we are going to be assigned forced labor too! In the immortal words of Roberto Duran "No Mas, no mas".

Unconstituional
Hey guys,

Don't forget a funny little document written circa 1787 by a group of wacky guys wih some populist freedom agenda! I may be wrong, but I think this was not part of their plan.

Unfortunately
the Republicans desire to help faith-based organizations, the bedrock of social services, with government grants backfired.

Worse, organizations fell for this "free" handout believing I suppose they could help more people with more money and sacrificed their integrity by doing so.

Of course Obama will capitalize on this and incorporate it into his plan for a Socialist country. And I'll bet that if his plan were actually implemented, there would be severe restrictions on where these poor kids could provide their "services" to only those organizations providing left-wing indoctrination such as the monies he gave the racist, America-hating Fr. Pleager when he was in the Illinois legislature.

Hey Rich D:
Great suggestion!

I'd suggest the Democrats be required to dispose of the dismembered bodies of aborted babies so they can see they are human. Especially those of partial-birth abortions. Maybe they wouldn't be so arrogant about advocating for abortion on demand and forcing federal taxpayers to pay for them.

Obama's "faith-based" charities.
to answer reply above, Maureen Dowd wrote an excellent column this week which traces much of Osama - er Obama's fundraising to Saudi Arabia and other Middle East nations...which is SUPPOSED TO BE ILLEGAL!
as to his 'faith based' initiatives. This is NOT charity - this is a way for government to REGULATE CHURCHES and other charities! We MUST wake up! This will also give Muslim "charities" free reign....and they, too, will get government monies!
Americans MUST! if this becomes an issue fight back against it! The American people still remain THE MOST CHARITABLE people on this earth! You are all painfully aware of how government botches everything in which it sticks its sticky little fingers!

For God's sake, people (and I mean that literally!) it's time for WE, THE PEOPLE to take back OUR NATION! The Fed is destroying our economy - and the members of Congress and others in power are getting rich off or our losses! WAKE UP! AND WAKE UP EVERYONE YOU KNOW...WE MUST STOP THIS MARCH OF MARXISM THAT IS DESTROYING OUR NATION! WE MUST GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR HOMES, OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR CHURCHES!

Let's start our own quiet, un-armed Revolution and take back our nation....if enough of us are loud and staunch enough - WE CAN DO IT!
WE, THE PEOPLE are NOT subject to the government - they are supposed to be subject to US! WE, THE PEOPLE! WAKE UP!

Federal charity
You are blowing in the wind, Job, oops I mean Paul.

It simply doesn't make any difference any more. The United States is doomed and will fall in our lifetimes led by 535 self serving power and money hungry criminals inside the beltway. They have spent us into bankruptcy, intervened everywhere in the world and at home, have perverted the Constitution, and are in cahoots with the international bankers and the oil people.

Those of us who are old enough to remember what the United States used to be like, kiss it goodbye. You younger ones on the take, well sorry, you are going to find out what real misery is and will not have the knowledge, fortitude, or ability to restore your country.

Hopefully I will be dead and buried when the end comes and now weep for my children as the inevitable is approaching.

Organizers tactics.
Obamas plan is scary as Hell.
He got his training as an affiliate of Saul Alinsky's Industrial Areas Foundation. It consists of hundreds of "organized communities" throughout the country created in Churches, but holding to purely secular and socialistic views. In Texas and many states, they call themselves "Interfaith". These community organizers contract to supposedly do "service" toward organizing the "poor" and unsuspecting pastors sign on. Portion of the church contributions are then given to the organization. which also applies for grant monies. The money goes UPWARD. Someone at the top must be very very rich. I wonder who?

Their "issues" are crafted beforehand, but while they lead people think they are getting a say so, in reality they are being exploited for the Organizations objective, which is to gain political power.

Obama met in a closed door meeting earlier this year with "church leaders" from throughout the state of Texas. It feeds the suspecion that the Industrial Areas Foundation organizations are working diligently on his behalf.

Letters from the organization are going out now for a convention in October where they will launch a big voter registration signup. There is little doubt this is all part of the plan.

Obamas faith based plan is suspect. Likely it is simply an underhanded means of funnelling more money into their organizations, and gaining more political POWER.
They claim partisanship, but their actions prove otherwise. They are extremely divisive.
Rev Wright and Fr. Pfleger are both linked to the parent organization, IAF.

Where are the "People"
Where on earth are the "People". The "People" have said loudly and clearly several times over "NO,NO a thousand times NO" to a National ID Card.
The very posing of the idea of a National Police Force (federalies, brown-shirts, gendarmes, SS, or whatever) should set off alarmes all over this country.
I have hardly heard a negative word!!
Unbelievable.

I wholeheartedly agree we need to take our country back, if it's not too late.
These worms have already gotten into churches, cities, and are working on the schools.
They are mean, divisive, and cannot take scrutiny, challenge, or opposition.
I have witnessed them, stood against them and been the subject of their wrath. It is insidious, and always hidden under some do gooder words to fool people into thinking they are sincere.
It is one giant scam to promote unions, democrats, and control the minds and votes and money of unsuspecting people. They peddle snakeoil.

Think about this: "The oil of the serpent is difficult to cleanse."

If the taxpayers revolted in this country, I would be one of the first to sign on.

Paul Jacob is right
...But the libertarians have never had their Michael Moore, so they have not gotten their ideas out to the government-school-"educated" masses. I have a few theories as to why:
1) Michael Moore is a thinking propagandist, whose brain is filled with ways of editing images in order to drive a message. He is not very capable of work that will raise capital for his ideas. Yet he was willing to steal tons of money ($58,000) from his leftist employer (Mother Jones) to finance his first film. The people who are currently working on libertarian propaganda (that is far better educated) are underfunded, and too proud to steal.
2) It is easier to create a work of propaganda when you don't have to honor the facts, or be consistent. Michael's works fit this bill. His works are full of holes for anyone who investigates them even cursorily. (as in David T. Hardy's "Michael Moore is a Fat, Stupid, White Man" )
3) Experts are easier to come up with when your experts are emotional fools, and not really experts. Real experts (like David T. Hardy, on gun rights and environmentalism, or Leonard Peikoff on philosophy, etc...) have busy lives. You need to plan around their schedule to get them to comment on film. You need to show that your film will treat them fairly and not edit them to alter the meaning of their words.

Republicans cannot be made into a romantic and rebellious image for the thinking public (the portion of the public that may not be educated, but is at least willing to consider new ideas). The reason for this is their:
1) Unthinking alliance with faith (unreason)
2) Support of big government socialism, as long as it calls itself "Republican"

This is why the few Republican partisan views of the truth fail: they are cursed with self-contradication from the outset.

...so what do we do?
The one person who halfway performed the task of making an accessible movie about liberty was Aaron Russo's "America: From Freedom to Fascism", but that movie was incomplete, and did not get Moore's distribution.

http://www.freestarmedia.com is doing an admirable job, but his projects are incomplete.

For those of you who are rich, and want to send a strong fiscal conservative/ libertarian message to the American public, I strongly suggest financing Mr Darrow's films. He has the right ideas.

As far as battling mandatory servitude: this cannot be done with a public that thinks that Huxley's "Brave New World" would be a "change" in the right direction.

Before we can truly battle the left, we have to educate them.

...We have our work cut out for us.

In the Soviet Union
the majority of it's exuberant citizens loved volunteering their labor to the State. And the few soreheads that didn't were given vacations in nice garden spots called Gulags.
You just know that here in the US, there will also be a few fools who won't like the new 'Joy Through Labor' program. So as long as we can't drill in Anwar, perhaps we could use this winter wonderland for our new 're-education camps. Hey, what the world's Communist Dictators could do, we Americans can do better, right?
Speaking of the joys of forced labor, perhaps we can call on North Korea for assistance. I'm sure they would be happy to help us plan this wonderful expression of love for our very own Maximum Leader and his merry Commissars, the liberal socialist democrats.

Then there's your vote...
Many people here are going to vote for McCain's brand of absolutist socialism, thinking it is better than Obama's brand of individualist socialism. Those people are just the same enemy to freedom that any liberal "Democrat" is. (Democrat is in quotes, because the "Democrats" don't believe in Democratic elections any more than the "Republicans" believe in a Constitutional Republic. The proof of this is when their lawyers challenge their legitimate competition off the ballots in "challenge states" like Illinois.)

Even without Bob Barr being anywhere close to the philosophical consistency of Harry Browne or Wayne Root, he is far and away the best choice for 2008.

For these reasons:
1) His positions on the issues are the best (he is pro-gun, capitalist, and in favor of all ten of the bill of rights that McCain and Obama both totally oppose)
2) Even if he doesn't get elected, his vote totals are building a political party that is the true alternative to mainstream fascism.
3) Ballot access for the Libertarian Party is determined by vote totals, so if you vote against McCain, it sends a strong message to the Republican Party: clean up your act, or we the people will bring you a competitor that will never again allow you to succeed. We will (figuratively) put a bullet in your brain, the same way a farmer puts down a sheep with scrapie, all without a shot being fired. ...And if we elect fascist "Democrats", at least we won't be electing fascists who tell us they stand for our Republic, and for our freedom.

Obama's PLAN TO POLICE US ON A NATIONAL
Someone better start getting his comments out in the public media instead of just comment sections. The things that he proposes- are nothing to seep under the rug. Despite what his crazy supporter's believe- Obama is not a Christian - He embraces Marxist Communism- and will put in a" National Police Force" - to achieve the security objectives we've set. I can remember several National Police Force's- The KGB- THE SS- Storm Troopers- to police the people- to control them- We are destined to have serious problem- should Obama become President. He has serious mental problems and being a racist- will stand with the muslims and wants to control us with a National Police Force that is just as strong and strong and funded just like our military - the force will be The United Nations Forces- plus 20,000 Russian Tanks that patrol our country making the people slaves for a new Communist Regime- hear me - be for warned Obama is a real nut case. The clinton's/ Jesse Jackson/ most of the Liberal's in California are devout Communists- will make Jane Fonda feel right at home . We the people must not allow this to happen..

Obama's Outrageous Plan To Control Us !
Obama's method's and proposals are not being taken seriously- by anyone and must be taken for their full value . A "National Police Force "made just as strong - and funded- just like our military "is intended to police the people with no rights under a Marxist Communist Regime and based upon the Muslim Law- they don't want you to agree with them- They want you to obey them- can only mean what I've suspected all along- Obama is not a Christian - but a Muslim

The police force is already here - The United Nation's Police Force- and will use military tanks - like the 20,000 bought from the Former Soviet Government when it Collapsed or did you forget about those tanks and are they stored on closed East Coast Bases w/ the United Nation's Troops - now ?

Now, in boring news...
OK, Obama is a collectivist, a socialist, a statist, and W is a statist "useful idiot" whose Republican "big government" paved the way for an Obama "big government."

What I don't understand is, why is any of this still considered news? Francisco Franco is still dead, too. Get over it.

After all today's posts ...
what do you think? That perhaps, just perhaps, we don't have a candidate worthy of being elected as the President of these United States? Duh ...

Lit'l Bits
Thank you for your post @ 12:55p, along with other great posts. Many of us are prayerful, vigilant, and mobilized, but not enough. I had an inner feeling that mega bucks are funnelled to Obama from other places.

What I have found is that a lot of people who say they are Christians and attend church, are voting for Obama when many of his proposed polices and what he stands for are against the Bible. It tells us that we should be the givers and blessed abundantly in return-Luke 6:38. It says that we should be blessed at all that we set our hands to, above only and not beneath, the head and not the tail-Deuteronomy ch. 13. We should not be looking for government hand-outs.

I understand that our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence are based on the First five books of the Bible and the book of Iasiah.

What this election season has shown me, is that a lot of ministers are not teaching the principles of the Bible so that their people could make wise choices when choosing candidates; a lot of ministers are abandoning the word of God in support of Obama; and many just need to be ashamed of themselves.

Christians must return to their first love (Christ). God can give this nation it's first Black president without the garbage that Obama is offering and what he represents.

I am not concerned about the Obama hype/$$$, because there is hope for America. 2 Chronicals 7:14 says if the people of God would seek his face, humble themselves and repent, he will hear us and heal our land.

Mr. Jacob
Nailed it!

The truth is that Bush and his fellow "compassionate conservatives" set the stage for this. What made them think that they could insert government into the process part-way, and that charity could remain free after that?

Actually, the neocons did. The neocons taught him that to politically outcompete your liberal opponents, you usurp the ideas of the liberals, modify and enhance them with a "market" solution because the market is more effective than government, then sell your collectivist scheme to the uncritical, fish-mouthed fool that is the American voter.

They did not count on two things. The first is that the liberal will ALWAYS find a way to trump any innovation they can come up with. In an arms race of altruism, the full-blown collectivists will win every time, because they have the philosophic advantage. You cannot convince a voter that the good of the collective takes priority over individual rights and then expect that voter to choose you over an opponent who takes that notion to its logical conclusion.

The second is that there are enough conservatives who see the truth and are willing to throw the B.S. flag even on their own party. The day of the compassionates and the neocons is over.

Don't kid yourself...
George Bush knew exactly where this was taking us when he proposed his "faith-based" initiatives, and those of us who understood conservative principles (not many of us, unfortunately) opposed this idea from the beginning. That was just the nose of the camel in the tent.

The American people are in for a very bad time. II Chronicles 7:14 notwithstanding, there comes a time when a line has been crossed, and we have crossed it. We have the blood of 35 million unborn children on our hands, and if God heard the blood of Abel crying out to Him from the ground, the blood of 35 million babies must be deafening.

NATIONAL SECURITY FORCE ?? WHAT FAITH ?
NATIONAL SECURITY FORCE:

HUSSEIN OBAMAS WORDS MUST BE PC. WE USE TO CALL THIS THE DRAFT!

FAITH BASED IN HIS OWN WORDS:

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream
is the second book written by US Senator Barack Obama. It was the number three bestseller on The New York Times nonfiction list as of October 2006. The book represents Obama's personal manifesto for his 2008 campaign for the presidency.

A quote for your review.

“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Couple of thoughts...
1) in response to:
We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

Uh, we already have something that fills that bill its called The Unorganized Militia. If Mr. Obama and his ilk would stop trying to disarm it we'll be fine.

2) I see Obama's endorsement of "Faith Based" charities to be a back door to removing the "Faith" part ... note that his plan requires said faith based charities to abide by federal hiring and discrimination guidelines. So that means Catholic Charities will start having to hire gays and Hadassah will have to hire Muslims. Of course no faith based charity will be allowed to continue to proselytize.

America nothing but Socialism/Communism!
Every single socialistic/communistic program now having a real choke hold on America has been foitsted upon the American citizens, dictator like, never ever a single one put to vote in order to become law.

I challenge anybody to prove me wrong? Both parties are as guilty as hell, though with a small shade of difference in most cases. Yes, the Democrats coming up with the Idea and after a little wrangling fully supported anyway, by Republicans. Yes, the very first Socialistic/Communistic program impossed on the America citizens without their consent, is none other than public education.

Yes, this system of education, that of public education is what leaven is to bread baking! Yes, in the case of public education to make good Socialist/Communists, where in the end all are supposed to think sort of alike, in essence the dumbing down of America, period. The cry is evermore more that most of our Universities are infested with liberal teachers, right? Yes, most of them begun their marching orders to be liberals, from grade one and on up to high school, etc.

Some 150 years ago over 85% of Americans were educated at home or in a one-room, church affiliated, community schoolhouse, and America's literacy rate was over 95%. Today, 85% of American children are schooled as opposed to educated in public schools and barely 60% can be called literate.

So, for now I rest my case!

Obama's leap of faith based charity
Since it is a proven fact that private charities, when well administered, are overwhelmingly more efficient than public ones, has anyone ever considered changing the tax laws to make the donations to the good charities direct tax credits instead of tax deductions? This would have the dual effect of creating a greater incentive to contribute to the good charities and getting the government out of where they are ineffective. I know this doesn't stand a chance of getting through the personal power brokers. Or does it? If this sounds reasonable, only we can make it come about.
