Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Some of us can vaguely remember a time when Wesley Clark was going to be the next Eisenhower - a general above the fray, a former supreme commander of NATO who had met the great challenges of his time, someone who would Bring Us Together, lift the tone of national politics, a champion of unity above the usual divisive politics, The Nation's Hope, and all the rest of the nominating speech.

But that was long ago in another country, and, besides, that Wesley Clark is no more - if he was ever real. His appeal as a presidential candidate peaked the moment he announced back in 2003, if not before, and it steadily deteriorated with every roundhouse swing he took and missed. Sad.

The general's big mistake? Instead of proving a different kind of candidate, he became just another partisan of the louder, less enduring sort. Instead of remaining above the fray, he waded into the muddy thick of it. Instead of bringing us together, he seemed intent on driving us further apart. Soon his was just one more rasping voice in the off-key chorus of presidential also-rans.

Now he's down there among the Michael Moore/Bill O'Reilly bottom-feeders. Impervious to the lessons of his last failed campaign, General Clark is now fighting it out in a kind of two-falls-out-of-three exhibition match against Rush Limbaugh. That's right: El Rushbo himself, The Mouth, the idol of the dittoheads; in short, the very personification of high-decibel, low-fact talk radio.

Not only is General Clark taking the Rush on, he's adopted The Mouth's vociferous style. Maybe it'll get him a job in the next Clinton administration - the kind of slot reserved for the hacks who do the dirty work in a presidential campaign.

Rush Limbaugh's style may be the essence of vulgarity, but even the vulgar can be smeared. It happened this way: On his Morning Update, a kind of daily communique for true believers, Mr. Limbaugh had gone after one Jesse MacBeth, one of those celebrated anti-war soldiers who turned out to be anti-factual. (It's a wonder The New Republic didn't sign him up as a regular contributor, a la its fact-challenged Scott Thomas Beauchamp.)

But leave it to El Rushbo to tell the story in his own imitable style: "Recently Jesse MacBeth, the poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court. He was sentenced to five months in jail (and) three years' probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim; his Army discharge record, too. Yes, Jesse MacBeth was in the Army. Briefly. Fourty-four days. Before he washed out of boot camp. MacBeth is not an Army Ranger; he is not a corporal; he never won the Purple Heart; he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen."

One of Rush's dittoheads soon called in to complain that the Biased Media "never talk to real soldiers. They pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and sound off to the media." That's when The Mouth of the Right blurted out - "the phony soldiers."

Uh oh. An anti-war group, Media Matters, seized upon that plural like a bird of prey on a shiny jewel, and used it to contend that Mr. Limbaugh had smeared "service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq." Whereupon the Rush said it was clear he was referring only to Jesse MacBeth and his like.

Well, it wasn't clear to Media Matters. The left was shocked - shocked! This is how the rhetorical game is played. The point isn't to debate principles or policies but to play Gotcha.

Besides, the Dems in the Senate needed a cause to get outraged over after MoveOn.org - the GOP's best foil - had embarrassed them by its attack on General Petraeus/Betray-Us. The backlash had hurt.

Soon enough, Wesley Clark was claiming that Rush Limbaugh had "labeled any American soldier who supports an end to the war in Iraq as 'phony.' " Any soldier. Goodness. Talk about word games, even the president and commander-in-chief could be said to support "an end to the war in Iraq" - if on his own victorious terms.

And now General Clark's own Web site, WesPac, its logo ablaze with four stars, is asking folks to ban Rush from Armed Forces Radio: "Click here to hold Rush Limbaugh accountable for his offensive and outrageous comments - tell your members of Congress to take Rush off Armed Forces radio today!"

The bold-faced and underlined type pretty well sums up the tone of General Clark's appeal: cheap but flashy. The general's rhetorical style is but a print version of Rush's own deep-throated roar over the air. And the "principle" he's asserting in this rhetorical rasslin' match is the oldest and unfairest: If you can't beat 'em, shut 'em up.

How's that for a lesson in freedom of speech and The American Way? In the event there's any doubt about what General Clark is up to, his Web site carries a less than flattering picture of El Rushbo - complete with stogie - imprinted with the demand: DUMP RUSH. The whole Web site is the mod, Internetted equivalent of the old, cheaply mimeographed hand-outs, replete with all-caps and exclamation points, that used to be popular only in the lower reaches of American sub-politics. It looks the way Rush Limbaugh sounds.

And so the muddy battle of quote, counter-quote, and counter-counter-quote rages on - to diminishing interest. It's hard now to recall that better time when Wesley Clark was going to restore dignity to American politics, not destroy what's left of it. But once the political bug hits, it can rage out of control even in generals. Maybe especially in generals. But who says Wesley Clark can't accomplish the impossible? He's made Rush Limbaugh - Rush Limbaugh! - look dignified.

Who's right and who's wrong in this screeching catfight? Answer: Does it matter? A better question would be: Who has followed his code? Rush is, was, and surely will remain a tabloid type with a capital T. He has stayed true to his loud calling. What disappoints about Wesley Clark is that he has not acted as the officer and gentleman he is, but as just another fourth-rate polemicist. How the mighty have fallen. Yes, sad.

Hmm.
"Who's right and who's wrong in this screeching catfight? Answer: Does it matter?"

Goodness. That's not going to make you any friends on Townhall. You've just delegitimized at least half of the editorials here (and most of the threads..)

Yeah it matters, it always matters.
"Who's right and who's wrong in this screeching catfight? Answer: Does it matter?"

Why the heck wouldn't it matter. What a sorry thing to say. (I mean your whole article)

Feeble-Minded Moral Equivalance
For every point Greenberg earns with a well-placed shot at Weasley Snark, he loses two by taking unfounded pot shots at Limbaugh. I used to be part of the "I'm a conservative, but I don't like Rush" crowd, until I actually started listening to his show. Good on Clark, but as for what he writes about Rush, he might as well be copying and pasting from Media Matters or MoveOn.Org.

Well, it's clear PG doen't like either
of the combantants in this issue.

I don't listen to Rush all the time. But I know HE HAS ALWAYS SUPPORTED THE TROOPS. No question on my mind. I don't need to hear from Rush about this - I already know.

To take ONE remark and blow it up into an indictment speaks more to WC's slipping standards. But, of course, a REAL SOLDIER HAD to do it. Waxman and dingy harry were not enough.

PG had to mess up a good article by the sort of comments he made about Rush. Give him 1 star and teach him to listen to Rush before he spouts.

Who is Paul Greenberg
What the heck is Paul Greenburg doing accusing Rush Limbaugh of not using facts, of being no better than the other talk show hosts? When has Paul Greenberg ever listened to a complete Rush Limbaugh program to form these stupid opinions? Never, I'll bet. He may be a fine poltical commentator, but his opinions of Rush Limbaugh are insulting and gratuitous slaps at a man who for over 20 years has broadcast his opinions using largely facts to back them up. Paul Greenberg ought to be defending Limbaugh against the idiot Clark but instead, he succeeds in blasting Clark (correct) and equally insulting Limbaugh (stupid and wrongheaded). If Limbaugh is not your cup of tea, listen to all the liberal talk show hosts. Oops, I forgot, there are none.

Limbaugh envy
Greenberg is just another talking head with Limbaugh envy wishing he had a following like Rushbo's. Mr G, Rush has that kind of audience because his "Stack fo Stuff" is based on facts. You might give it a try it may boost your numbers as well. You question his integrity in the same article you validate it by confirming the truth about the "Phony Soldier" comment. You should have focused on your title. WC's feeble efforts to silince Rush.

I've heard Rush...
Listen silently while a caller tears into him for a good 90 seconds (a very long time on the radio), and then engage the accuser in a reasonable and calm way -- quite unlike the screamers and screechers of the left.

I've lost some respect for Greenberg. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Insert Foot in Mouth!
“WASHINGTON — A letter sent to Rush Limbaugh's boss demanding he be chastised for comments he made on the air about ‘phony soldiers’ is now on the auction block, and the latest bid is a cool $41,400.” Fox News, Oct 13, 2007

It appears 41 (Democrat) senators endorsed a letter sent to Rush’s boss insisting that Rush be chastised for his statement; which the left distorted out-of-context. Don’t these senators know how to read? All they needed to do is review the transcripts from Rush’s broadcast and they would have stood corrected. Is this the typical research effort these bone-heads apply prior to voting on important issues? I’m beginning to believe that sensationalism trumps facts in certain political circles!

The letter from the senators is being auctioned on EBay; proceeds to educate the children of Marines and law enforcement officers who died while on duty.

Kahryl
I suggest you spend your time purusing your favorite liberal blogs, since Townhall doesn't seem to be your favorite. It never ceases to amaze me that libs read this site and criticize it for stating conservative ideas. Go back to the libs, Kahryl, your liberal talk just doesn't fit in here and you certainly look like a fool besides.

Sorry Paul Greenburg, you don't get it!
While I agree that Westley Clark has deteriorated into the mud like so many Democrats, there is much about Rush Limbaugh that you clearly don't understand. Have you ever even listened to his program for more than a few seconds? I didn't think so.

For you to say that Rush is "the very personification of high-decibel, low-fact talk radio" proves that you have never even listened. Rush prides himself in backing up his stories and commentary with facts! He may be loud, but you mistake his _passion_ for some moron shouting opinion without facts. It seems that the person without facts is YOU, Mr. Greenburg.

As any listener can tell you, Rush has a very long-standing tradition of supporting our troops. You wouldn't know that because you haven't listened. For Rush to have "labeled any American soldier who supports an end to the war in Iraq as 'phony'" is completely out of character, and in fact did not happen. He made the correct observation that "solders" like Jesse MacBeth are phony, and he was 100% correct!

Sadly, people on the left often choose phonies like Jesse MacBeth as mouthpieces to help further their cause. It is part of their standard operating procedure. Many on the left care nothing about the truth, only that they get their way and keep like-minded people in control of the rest of us.

You further asserted that Rush is "the essence of vulgarity." On what do you base that? Not the facts, that's for sure. Are you a closet liberal, or are you just jealous?

In summary, if you are going to write columns in the pages of Townhall.com, please in the future get _all_ of your facts straight, not just those of the leftest tactics and hypocrisy. If you don't, you are no better than they are, and have no place here on Townhall.com.

You just have to be
stupid to be a liberal (or congress critter) It's insulting to have these morons in charge of $2.9 trillion.

CommonSense
I could'nt have said it any better.Nothing like writing an article about something Mr.Greenberg knows zero about.Yes,that alone would make him a closet liberal...............

The Liberal Spin Cycle
I find it amusing that Mr. Greenburg comes to Townhall in order to bash Rush, a man who has fought the good fight of conservatism, especially when we conservatives had no voice.

Your baloney smacks of elitism and has the stench of liberal bias. In short, go back to your liberal cave of psuedo intellectualism and dish out your Macaca to the anti-war, anti-God, anti-american drones. You'll be well received and could be the next poster child for the DNC.

Rush's integrity
Mr. Greenberg: Rush dominates talk radio in part because he is impeccable on the facts. Everything is sourced, and I've heard him make a correction when an error is made.

You declare him to be vulgar. Those who listen to Rush and have read your column know you are dishonest.

Paul Greenburg
Pick up a white chip....

Intellectual honesty
I was forced to listen to Rush by my step-father (who I love dearly) when I was younger. Even though I rarely read newspapers or watched TV back then it always amazed me that my step-father would believe and repeat things Rush would say even though they were obviously not true. Just like now when Rush says anyone who is against continuing to "stay the coarse" in Iraq wants the U.S.A. to be defeated. That's a lie and every single one of you know it, but that doesn't stop you from repeating it. How can we be defeated if we are winning now as Rush claims? Just because you get tired of kicking someone's a$$ doesn't mean you lose. According to the Bush administration and Rush we have won many times 1) Denied Saddam the ability to build nukes (not that he could have anyway) 2) Freed Iraqi's from Saddam's rule. 3) Killed and/or captured, convicted and executed Saddam, his crazy sons and many of his top aides. 4) Allowed Iraq to hold several elections. 5) Trained and equiped hundreds of thousands of Iraqi police and soldiers. 6) Brought al Quada to Iraq (oops that was not a stated goal. Just an obvious one). 7) So far kept a lid on a potential civil war. How do you "win" when the conditions for "winning" keep changing? If you say "when Iraq is stable" I have to laugh. When has any middle eastern country been "stable"?

On a side note. I happened to listen to the unedited audio recording of the Rush segment in question. I have to admit that had I been more familiar with Rush's previous coverage of Jesse MacBeth maybe it would not have sounded like a condemnation of any soldier who disagreed with the war. But at the time I was not and what Rush said, within the context of what the caller was saying, certainly sounded like Rush was calling ANY AND ALL military personel who are against the war in Iraq "phony soldiers".

Ignore Clark and Greenberg on Rush
Greenberg showed por judgment in paying any attention to Clark at all. Wesley Clark should be ignored at all times. Clark has degenerated into a political whore for the Democrats, willing to say anything. Also, Greenberg has shown poor judgment in his comments about Rush. Rush provides some of the best fact-based political commentary in the country today.

Clark was FIRED!!!
By Bill Clinton..... no less. Go Rush!!

Clark, a Water Boy
Wesley Clark is carrying the water for the Clintons in the hope that he will be appointed to a major role in Hillary's administration. This is the general who almost got us into a shooting war with the Russians during the Kosovo War. He has as much integrity as the Clintons and his bald-faced lie about Rush illustrates how far he will go to ensure that the Democrats, especially Hillary, regain the White House. Rush has shown his support for the military through his visit to the Afghanistan war zone and long support for USMC charities. Democrats have no program just a smear campaign against Republicans and patriots to ensure their return to power.

Why Dems Have To Lie..
People that promote lies are afraid for the truth to come out about them so they float lies to cover it up.

What are the Democrats hiding that they cannot allow you to know?

What is their real agenda for our country?

The "Old" American news media seems to be part of it because the same tools they use to destroy Bush are the same tools they can use to tell the truth...They choose not to.

Greenberg doesn't listen to Rush ...
Anyone who does, knows the Rush's greatest strength is simply reporting the full story and using his "adversary's" own words to deconstruct him or her.

Greenberg is typical of MSM journalism
He obviously is taking his "facts" from other tabloids and the talking-heads shows on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and their affiliates. If he had ever listened to Rush for at least one week straight, he would see how stupid his remarks about El Rushbo are. You can't listen to Rush for a few minutes and learn anything any more than you can stick your head into a college classroom, listen to a few minutes of a lecture then go out and write a column about the professor.

Journalism in its present form is proving daily to be the lowest form of bottom feeding news we can get. And apparently it doesn't matter what their political views are. Just a lazy bunch of amateurs if you ask me. Editors do your job and insist on the facts, then double check them!

General Clark, et al
Clark is a present day McClellan of Lincoln’s time, a virtual mouthpiece for the anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-military campaign that is dedicated to undermine the nation’s confidence so that Democrats may traitorously gain the Whitehouse in 2008.

He is an idiot parading in general’s clothing. To pick on Rush is to dignify the preposterous lie as phony as the “phony soldiers” allegation.

Clark should stop taking his party line from screaming Howard Dean and retire to Arlington Cemetery and lecture those soldiers who have really served their country with their lives and not a mouth dedicated to political opportunism.

Ditto to "Common Sense"
Ditto to Common Sense as well as a big thank you. You wrote exactly what I was going to say.

I read Townhall first thing every day. Greenberg is the guy I usually skip. Because he mentioned Rush I did read him. No more.

Wow
Never have seen such a backlash at a Blog writer here, I like it, well in this case.

I guess Harry Reid is a pawn for WC, never realized that.

I had this idea, Rush and Harry should make a deal. Reid will go on Rush’s show and be made a fool or and then Rush will go to Congress and face a Committee that Reid assigns to the task so we can see again how idiotic these congress people are and you notice I didn’t say Dems because there are plenty of Rep idiots to go around. It would be a typical waste of tax payer dollars but would be great programming for C-Span.

"Rush Limbaugh. That's right: El Rushbo himself, The Mouth, the idol of the dittoheads; in short, the very personification of high-decibel, low-fact talk radio."

Trying to get at Wes you "out" Rush - perfect. By the way, incompetent like the Bush Regime you missed your target and hit Rush

Dolly
Apparently the finer points of the ideal use of freedom of speech have eluded you. You said "And here, I thought conservatives believed that people should be accountable for their speech! Rush should certainly be thrown off Armed Forces Radio for that comment, given the standard set by the conservative cabal (condemning the NYT ad by MoveOn)."
A true conservative DOES believe in being accountable. For all the screaming people do from both sides of the aisle, the basic premise of "I have a right!!" also means you have a responsibility entwined with that right. How sad that people like you don't seem to understand the difference between someone saying "The NYT and Move.on are despicable" and yelling for someone to lose their livelihood. No one screamed for the NYT to lose its ability to print papers, merely that it stop disguising itself as a true medium for facts when in reality it is a shill for Moveon and the Klintons.
Shutting people up is not advocating for free speech. If you're offended, walk away. I don't understand why posters like you even bother to come here. I read the huffington post (great name and very prophetic as most of the articles there seem to be written by people with a keyboard in one hand and a tube of airplane glue in the other.) But I don't post on there because I know that no matter what I say I am not going to find anyone to understand, much less agree, with my point of view. And typing a response just to watch the foaming at the mouth to begin is cruel. (Although quite funny.)
So let's stop screaming about Free Speech when what you really mean is Approved Speech.
Go kiss a Llama.

Clark served Rush ran!
THE FEW THE BRAVE and what happen RUSH?

Politico-An Air America producer just sent over some transcript from an interview their Richard Greene (not our Richard Greene) conducted with Elizabeth Edwards, in which she questioned Rush Limbaugh’s Vietnam exemption:

My classmates went to Vietnam, he did not. He was 4F. He had a medical disability, the same medical disability that probably should have stopped him from spending a lifetime in a radio announcer’s chair; but it is true, isn’t it? If he has an inoperable position that allows him not to serve, presumably it should not allow him to sit for long periods of time the way he does. I think this is a serious enough offense for the people who fund him, who buy ads and allow him to be on the air, need to be asked if this is what they really stand for, do they think it is all right for someone who has never served to denigrate the men and women who have simply because they are expressing an opinion. Frankly, I thought that is what we are fighting for.

In the interview, Edwards also suggested that John Kerry shouldn’t have conceded when he did in 2004.

RG: Were you disappointed that Sen. Kerry conceded as quickly as he did?

EE: I was very disappointed, not just because we did not count the votes, but because we promised people that if they stood in line and fought for the right to vote, that we would fight with them. And I was very disappointed that the decision was made by the campaign, over John’s objection, not to fight.

You can listen to the interview here.

AND: Snopes.com has the details of Limbaugh’s draft status, and concludes that he was legitimately ineligible for the draft, though it also says his own responses to the question have been “unconvincing and dissembling.”

And John Edwards recently criticized Limbaugh’s “phony soldiers” remark.

Rush is on AFR because he is popular with the listeners, just like with stateside radio stations.

Like it or not , your local station sell more ads with RL than Al Franken or anything from Air America.

Paul Seems To Have Become
one of a crew of ostensibly conservative journalists who play lip service to the principles of conservatism while sneering at people like Rush. Rush was there when there was virtually NOBODY else carrying the torch of conservatism. He is an uncompromising defender of these principles, and may not be everyone's cup of tea. He doesn't take the tack of trying to have a productive discussion with a leftist by saying "I agree with you on a number of points, but, on the other hand...can't we find some common ground?" To a conservative who scorns this blunt approach, ask yourself honestly, "When was the last time a lib took that type of approach with you?"

If you don't like Rush, that's fine, but there seems to be a trend of some conservative voices throwing some of our most staunch defenders under the bus, while giving every benefit of the doubt to liberal voices. If Hilary is strident, well, that's to be expected; but if Rush calls her on it in equally blunt terms, horrors, we are supposed to be above that type of dialogue.

This thoughtful approach no doubt plays well at gatherings of journalists where 90% of the participants are libs. However, when push comes to shove, they'll get as much true support from their liberal coterie as GWB did from Teddy Kennedy did when he co-sponsored an education bill with Teddy, or when he was gracious to Nancy Pelosi at the State of the Union address.

And by the way, Rush is fact checked constantly by libs hoping to play gotcha. That the phony soldier controversy is the best they can stir up speaks volumes. Mr. Greenberg might want to adopt as rigorous an approach as Rush does before he tosses out a critique.

John Knopp
Can't you tell the difference between John and Elizabeth. I know Liz is the one with guts, but the article you linked had Liz (EE) doing the criticizing.

John sending Liz to do his job , maybe?

Armed Forces Radio
didn't I read somewhere that Rush is the #1 requested program on Armed Forces Radio? Maybe, the troopers want Rush, if so, then they should be able to listen to him, PERIOD. If Wesley Clark desires to re-enlist as a private and go and serve in Iraq or Afghanistan as a "grunt" and not a "green zone" staff officer, then perhaps he should have a voice...otherwise he should keep silent on this issue.
...and as for Media Matters being an "anti-War" group...well, that may be one of their peripheral causes but make no mistake that their #1 mission in existence is to further the politcal career of Hillary Clinton and attack any and all detractors of hers who may surface.
...oh, and "anti-War" is a generalization which undermines itself because the same protest groups will hide behind the "well, if the USA is attacked I shall be there for it" mantra to mask their anti-USA realities! If they are for a war when it comes to their doorstep, then they are not "anti-war"..."Quakers", and those like them in related religious sects, are "anti-war", but it's their faith; they don't trot it out for ANTI-USA protest purposes.

Townhall Decline Into Daily Kos
So Greenberg, you do not like O'Reilly and Limbaugh. Who on the radio/tv do you like? Chris Matthews? Olberman? NPR talkers? Franken? Com'on tell us what voices we should be listening to. Are you preparing to have good access to the Klintons or Obama Hussein? If it is the Klintons and you show no evidence of kowtowing, make sure you allow them to pat you on the back; that is where they will get you better. Never question herself about the full pantsuit legs and her choice of volunteer help in her campaign.

Weasley Clark/Maharushie
Ask anyone who ever served under this bozo, what kind of self-serving, self-aggrandizing jerk he is and the picture they paint isn't very flattering, especially for a 4 star general. How he ever existed in a combat zone and didn't get fragged, is a wonder to me. He is the worst type of officer, a John Kerry type, who's only aim was to glorify himself at the expense of his soldiers and country. What a scumbag.

As far as Rush goes, I too once believed all that was said about him, UNTIL I listened to his show. Starting in the early 90's, he confirmed my revulsion to Billy Jeff, Teddy, Tip and other slimy dhimmocrats and exposed liberals for what they really are - traitors to my beloved republic, pandering, posturing, socialist communists; willing to lie about anything or anybody to advance their anti-capitalist, Marxist agenda which they have pretty much done in spite of Rush's voice of truth.

Thank God for Rush as he helped to keep my perspective and sanity during the impeachment madness.

And I guess we have to thank Satan for Weasley Clark, a completely unworthy opponent, an utterly silly buffoon who is aa big a disgrace to this country as Jimmy Carter and Algore.

As for the lib posters who always trot out their favorite word, hypocrit, get a dictionary. You can only be that if you continue to engage in something all the while condemning it, as demonstrated by libdolts on an minute by minute basis.

Clinton General
Clark got his last star because Clinton intervened. I have talked to some retired officers and CSM's who have served around and under him and they all say he is a self-promoting idiot. Then the slickster fired him because even he could see he was an idiot.

Clinton General

HalD
Must be great HalD to be perfect. To come to the scruff land and sit back and take pot shots at the great unwashed masses. Guess you can't make it in you own liberal arena. Guess you feel superior to us turds here. You are just spinnin you wheels here. None of us have any respect for you and your buddies. Thats why we don't take you seriously.Your only approach is negativity.

LET THE TROOPS PICK
I have seven family members in the Military including my son and I have talked to all of them and they think this crap about RUSH is stupid. They know more about RUSH than the probably do WESLEY (THE TRAITOR)CLARK. They told me that all you have to do is let the TROOPS vote if they want RUSH on AFN and that will be that. So as the saying goes RUSH will be on AFN for quite some time. The TROOPS love RUSH and thats whats got the DRIVE BY MEDIA and the DUMBOCRAPS in an uproar. How could a FAT PUDGY man have so much pull in the MILITARY? Because he tewlls it like it is and supports the TROOPS more than ant LIBSCUM would. Got it from the 7 horses mouths and what is more funnier than ever is that four of them are REGISTERED DEMS and they dont care what other people think. They are ready to stand by RUSH no matter who is trying to silence RUSH. They said what ever happened to Freedom of Speech. Im proud of all seven of my family members for fighting for our FREEDOM OF SPEECH and our American Rights. So let the TROOPS VOTE.

I have come a long way....
My dear husband got me listening to Rush about 10 years ago. I thought he was a loud mouthed blowhard. BUT, when I REALLY listened, I realized just how right Limbaugh is. I don't always agree with him. Those they say they don't like Rush either never REALLY listened to him, or just totally disagree with his philosophy. This is one guy that says what he thinks and doesn't care what others think. That is a good thing and I appreciate Rush and the intelligence his program brings. So I guess that makes me a PROUD DITTOHEAD!!

dittoheads vs media matters
IF Rush used "phony soldiers" comment to refer to MacBeth, and others like him who lie about their military service, then Rush is correct.

IF Rush meant "phony soldiers" to refer to any U.S. soldier who disagrees with the war in Iraq, then Rush is wrong.

I still view myself as a conservative(which is NOT the same thing as a republican), although Bush policies have caused me to do alot of soul-searching regarding my political philosphy.

If Bush represents modern "conservative ideology", then something is rotton in the conservative movement.

I am deeply opposed to the rationale to bring about democracy in muslim lands. I believe it is fraught with extreme danger to the interests of the United States.

I don't agree with Greenberg that Rush embodies "low-fact check" talk radio. Most of what Rush CHOOSES to discuss, is based largely on fact. However, the critical word is "CHOOSES". Rush only presents positive portrayals about the war in Iraq. He skews his coverage to reflect only on the positive. Listening only to Rush tells you one side of the story. Rush sees his role as an antidote to the predictable negative portrayal of Iraq by much of MSM.

Rush is more partisan than MSM. One can find postive portrayals of Iraq in MSM, such as Fox News(the neocon news network). But listening only to Rush about the Iraq war, one never hears Rush specifically condemn how Bush has mismanaged the war.

And that turned me against Limbaugh..his lack of ability to be objective about Bush on this war.

SPOT ON ARTICLE
Great column Mr. Greenberg. You're to be commended for putting principle over propaganda. Obviously, the "left is evil, right is moral" crowd here at townhall will throw hissy fits, but I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight. Great Job.

PC Moral Equivalence
Paul,
Are you trying to become one of the tame 'conservatives' on the New York Times editorial page?

Imbecile. Do you really believe there is an equivalence between Limgaugh and Clark?!? Have you ever listened to the EIB channel? Obviously not. One of the big things is Limgaugh does not take himself seriously. Unfortunately, you do. (hint, you are the joke)

UncleB
"...Guess you feel superior to us turds here. You are just spinnin you wheels here. None of us have any respect for you and your buddies. Thats why we don't take you seriously.Your only approach is negativity."

You know once upon a time not too long ago, I thought compromise was the way to go but with 9/11 and the conservative religious leaders comments dividing the nation and then the senseless invasion of Iraq and the Loss of New Orleans, I now see fundamentalist conservatism as dangerous, nasty and incompetant. It has divided the nation, squandered our treasure and harmed our military capability and national security. I now compare it to the failed philosphies of slavery and segragation - a danger that should be exposed. I am positive about rebuilding the nation, working together and coming back together as a people.

One More thing ...
Pauley G-
Rush reads his stories from the very MSM you appear to applaud, and then nails them with more facts or the self contradictory editorial statements they insert into a news story. If you ever bothered to listen to Limbaugh you would know this. Since you obviously did not do your _own_ research in this regard you have been outed as a blow hard. In the future in you attempts to appear urbane I would recommend you get your _own_ facts straight before you go and declare another as factually challenged. Dolt.

UncleB
I mention Weasley Clark to some of the soldeirs here who were in Bosnia when the Perfumed Prince was in command...LAUGH!

Not a ringing endorsement of his leadership talents, especially after hackworth sliced and diced him.

Only an idiot like HalD would endorse such a schmuck. The same guy who used his military connections to make money in the private sector, but no one ELSE can do so.

HalD

I just stuck a dried bean up my nose. But where did that banana go?

Robert Robert

Here, let me check Hal...

Dolly Llama
I think people would take you more serious if you poured gas on yourself outside rush's station and lit yourself on fire,,,now that's a real statement,,,of course you would only get to say it once,,,but I'm willing to risk it.

HalD.bag
Don't worry Hal Jesus loves you. The rest of us think you are pond scum but Jesus loves you.

Facts and Limbaugh
I don't listen to Rush every day, but I do tune in regularly and have since he hit the air here in 1988. This pathetic op-ed smear piece on Rush Limbaugh is bereft of facts, exactly as it falsely accuses Limbaugh's show of being. What's next Mr. Greenberg? Defending the foreign policy of the Carter Administration while bashing Reagan for not being nice in the debates?

Partly right
I can't help but wonder WHY some right leaning pundits feel the need to validate themselves by taking cheap shots at other right leaning pundits...? A word to the wise- the left isn't going to think you are wonderful no matter WHO you shoot at. Let's remember one thing ( and this goes for you too OReilly), Rush is as popular as he is because he agrees with US. When he stops, WE will stop listening and he will wither away- kinda like leftie talk show hosts...

An example- I agree with much that OReilly says, but I see an irritating side to him. He WILL allow some guests to "spin". Anyone who watched his much-vaunted interview with Jesse Jackson knows what I mean. He will NOT defend Ann Coulter or Michael Savage, yet fauns all over Sharpton and some demonRAT congresspeople until I could barf.

Now, what I agreed with in this column was the point made about Clarke- the man is an idiot. Wesley Clarke was NEVER an Eisenhower...ever.

Rush v Clark
FACTS!? Greenberg, Rush does NOT OPEN his mouth UNTIL he has ALL of the facts. Clark and his ilk NEVER have any factual input. BTW your 'facts' are factless about Rush.

Difference between Limbaugh and Clark
Limbaugh is admittedly crude, but his points are generally on the nail.

Clark can't find the nail to hit, so aims at Limbaugh--and misses badly!

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!
Hal is a TOTAL IDIOT!

"then the senseless invasion of Iraq and the Loss of New Orleans..." (Your BDS is showing nimrod.)

A-Q crippled in, of all places, Iraq.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/1 0/14/AR2007101401245_pf.html

And to blame NOLA and Katrina on Bush! HAHA

MORON!

The Feds had the NG ready to roll when FORMALLY requested by Nagin and Blanco waited till the last second. Too late. There is this thing called The Posse Commitatus Act of 1887 that prevents Fed intervention unless requested.

Maybe Nagin could have used those school buses he let drown to evac!

HalD

I had a CAT scan but it showed a big empty space.

Robert Robert

That's okay Hallie, you've got back. Well, you've got my back! (giggles)

eastlake joe
Are sure about that? the love thing.

Paul WHO?
Hey, do not be mad paul what ever your name is. Don’t hate the player as they say. Everybody tries to play rush off as a dummy and a moneymaker. Sorry but the two don’t go together. Any al frankenstein type would be happy to have half the base that elrushbo has and “truth is” that’s all that matters.
But do not fear, you will always have Roberta roberta and hal and the rest of the trolla here at TH!

could roberta roberta be weasly clark in a bunny suit?

Rush v Clark
GREENBERG, RUSH NEVER OPENS HIS MOUTH UNLESS HE HAS ALL THE FACTS! Your Democrat friends are the people who NEVER have any facts...THEY KILL FACTS SITH BS.

Another mistake
Greenburg makes is to put both Michael Moore and Bill O'Reilly together in the "botton feeder" catagory.

O'Reilly can be an obnoxious big mouth but he has done a lot of good--exposing judges who go easy on child predators and State Legislatures that refuse to pass laws protecting children form these predators, for instance.

Michael Moore, on the other hand, is patently anti-American. He makes up "facts" like how wonderful Castro and the Cuban health-care system are. His movies are based on outright lies.

HalD
Once again Hal-boy you do not disappoint.....more negative stuff.......
Butt, I bet you whisper sweet nothings into Roberta Robertas sphincter space.

Roberta Roberta: what was that you said Hal?

one of the lamest columns ever
Paul, this is one of the lamest columns to ever appear on Townhall. A veritable waste of column inches.

Wesley Clark taking on Rush is like a common house fly taking on a 747. It's laughable.

As to your comments that Rush is 'vulgar' and the essence of 'low fact talk radio'....please. Rush is an amazing human being and far more effective and accurate than you ever thought of being. The envy and smallness of these comments is obvious. Rush is an icon, and has contributed far more to the cause of conservatism than you have, any day of the week. In talking about and exposing liberals for the idiots they are, one is bound to have to be a little bit vile. The subject matter requires it. But Rush is a hero to most of us, and your petty remarks seem to reveal a latent jealousy, rather than anything substantive.

In short, Paul, you can only dream of the kind of success, influence and credibility Rush has.

Rush is already quite dignified, thank you, no matter what Wesley Clark or Paul Greenberg has to say about it.

Bunky writes 6:03AM
""CommonSense
I could'nt have said it any better.Nothing like writing an article about something Mr.Greenberg knows zero about.Yes,that alone would make him a closet liberal...............""
===================================================

Right again Bunky, Greenberg is, in my opinion, not only a closet liberal, but a closet yankee. He writes with southern swoon, but comes across with NYC written all over him. Now he lives as, and we are told is, an Arkansan. But funnier things have come out of southern woods.

There's Jimah Catah, oh, and Billy Clintstone, now we are faced with the real Paulo Greenberger. Each was raised by a mother who had decidedly non traditional southern views. In the case of Clintstone, it was his stepmother, Ms. Hellary Robthem Blind who eventually took his fathers name, Clintstone.

ONE LAST COMMENT (I THINK)
Rush Limbaugh dodged the Vietnam conflict (as did many Americans who were able) and never served militarily. Only on townhall would he be commended for "supporting the troops" while a four star general and veteran of many military conflicts be referred to as "scum" and portrayed as dishonorable. Townhall really supports their troops (sarcasm).

Dolly, do you deliberately lie or ...
are you just unable to discern facts. Tell me, when did anyone attack a 12 year old kid? See, you know darn well no one was attacking a 12 year old. But your side wants to prop him up as some type of body armor to take the inevitable arrows that will come your way for proposing an incredibly stupid increase in a program that, from all accounts, is working as it should.

So, go ahead. Lie. Distort. Mislead. Hide behind a 12 year old. You're not fooling anyone but yourself. Which, from my vantage point, doesn't look all that difficult.

Beckie: You go girl. Great points!

LMAO
I love this wonderful priceless even. Fight away folks. I knew my favorite Iraq mercenary, Gunny, would really get his knickers in a twist. Must run but I will be sure to check back.

Obviously you don't listen
"Rush Limbaugh's style may be the essence of vulgarity"??

Why am I sensing the aroma of ignorance?

Savage vulgar? maybe - I don't like his style.
O'Reilly vulgar? can't argue - stopped listening long ago.
Rush vulgar? - dems would love to believe it, but 15 hours a week for 18 years and they still have no proof.

Mr. Greenberg, -1

Michale Moore
Is worse than a bottom feeder. He makes most libbers look good. He took statements by cops and firemen and pieced them together bit by bit to say what he wanted. This was further stated by two or three of them in the news after the movie Farenheit 9/11 came out. Those statements by them were even out on MSM so I can't comprehend why they let him continue to call it a documentary instead of a work of fiction.

Bush hid behind Petraues and then you guys got your knickers in a twist when he was attacked. But it is OK to attack an injured child? Well I guess by your lights it is you attack a wounded soldier etc

It's Funny
How Miss Hal ALWAYS has to bustle off somewhere on a frantic mission whenever the goings gets too tough for him. When someone calls him on his bloviating and pontificating...

"Must run but I will be sure to check back."

Don't bother stupid, no one misses you when you leave.

Doc
Lets make that Hunter/Tancredo! Let them see it maybe it will happen.

HalD
Roberta Roberta!!!!! Hal is going off to play with small warren. Or maybe a 3some with smallwarren and lilly. HalD is a liar and is cheating on you Roberta Roberta.

Roberta Roberta: sniff sniff. Maybe a citizens divorce.

No wait didn't Hitlery try that with willieboy.
OR, maybe HalD is going to play with willieboy. That's why he took the whole box of cigars.

You probably will never see this in the sea of comments, but your the one that should have a blog.

GunnyG
Isn't it funny that Hal thinks only the conservatives are the ones tearing the country apart? Wow. And the facts he brings forward are staggering.

Hal D: Robbie, do you know where my Military Records are?

when greenberg
called rush the mouth i stopped reading his column and said your not one of us. get lost greenberg

Decoder ring not included
This is about the dumbest thing I have ever read on Townhall. The guy compares Michael Moore to Bill O'Reilly....because???? Maybe they are both males? They both think highly of themselves? I don't get the comparison. Next he compares Clark's actions to the "vulgarity" of Rush...hmmm.... I've listened to Rush... considering his topic of conversation, he is anything but vulgar even when he has every right to be.

Oh, wait... Oh I get it now!!!! The truth is as offensive to the left as lies are to the right. Good one Paul. It took a while to decode your logic, but there it is. Next time you write something this half fast backwards, be sure to include a decoder ring.

Dolly
Now I know you are factual. you must be, you have Hal D. bag agreeing with you!!! Right about now you should be wanting a good, hot shower.

Hang-tyme
I know no one ever explained this to you so please let me be the first. A 4F does not make a draft dodger. Clinton and skerry (who had 3-4 deferments) = draft dodgers! End of school!

Guess Robert Robert polished you off toot-sweet!

How's Weaseley Clark doing? The Perfumed Prince still avoiding anything that might make him look bad? You know? Like grounding the Apache's in Bosnia lest an accident make him look bad.

You two make a perfect pair, dumber and dumbest. Although who is who is still up for grabs.

Weasely Clark wouldn't make a pimple on Marine Lance Corpral's butt.
