When it dawned on him that running cost-benefit analyses for the Department of Energy -- even in the pursuit of sustainable fuels -- was fairly cold business, Paul Elliott tried his hand at writing poetry and songs, living off the land in Iowa. It was a blast, but it didn't really take.

Stocks and bonds are in one's blood. It's never long before you're sneaking a peek at Wall Street Week and chasing the bug across the screen on CNBC. Once back East, Elliott wrote on the investment relevance of insider trading, endured a five-year stint as an analyst at First Call, then settled down at The Motley Fool. The rest, as they say, is history.
