Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The mantra is repeated daily. There is consensus on climate change. Global warming is real. It will be a disaster. Humans are to blame. We have to do something – immediately.

However, the consensus of 100 scientists is undone by one fact, Albert Einstein noted. The United Nations and its Climate Cataclysm army of 15,000 in exotic Bali clearly understood that.

They were not about to let even one fact prevent them from promoting climate scares and a successor to the Kyoto treaty. Gloom-and-doom scientists and bureaucrats owned Bali’s podiums. Radical environmentalists fumed and staged stunts. Al Gore denounced President Bush, repeated myths that enthralled the Academy and Nobel committees, and demanded sacrifices – by others.

Meanwhile, respected climate scientists were barred from panel discussions, censored, silenced and threatened with physical removal by polizei, if they tried to hold a press conference to present peer-reviewed evidence on climate, such as:

Climate change is natural and recurrent. The human factor is small compared to that of the sun and other natural forces. There has been no overall global warming since 1998, and most local and regional warming trends have been offset by nearby cooling. A half-degree of net warming since 1900 (amid a number of ups and downs) does not foreshadow a catastrophe. Recent glacial retreats, sea-level rise and migrations of temperature sensitive species are all within the bounds of known natural variability.

The best approach is to adapt, as our ancestors did. Money and resources devoted to futile climate prevention actions would be better spent on malaria, AIDS, poverty and other pressing problems. Perhaps most important, no country can progress or prosper without abundant, reliable, affordable energy that would be in short supply if draconian climate laws are implemented.

UN alarmists would not tolerate such heresies. They blamed every regional weather and climate blip on human emissions, and trotted out computer scenarios that they insist “prove” we must take drastic actions to avert Armageddon.

But computer models do a poor job of incorporating our still poor grasp of complex and turbulent oceanic, atmospheric and solar processes. They are based on conjecture about future technologies and emissions, and cannot predict climate shifts even one year in the future, much less 50 or 100. They simply produce “scenarios” and “projections” of what might happen under assorted assumptions – enabling alarmists to trumpet the most alarming outputs to support drastic action.

Those scenarios are evidence of climate chaos the way “Jurassic Park” proves dinosaurs can be cloned from DNA trapped in prehistoric amber.

However, Bali negotiators insisted that the world faces a climate crisis that can be averted only by slashing greenhouse gas emissions. Ultimately, they could agreed only to “deep cuts” by 2050, with definitions to be written later by countries that are not about to commit economic suicide. Many environmentalists and members of Congress nonetheless continue to demand CO2 reductions of up to 40% below current emission levels by 2020 – and 80% or more by 2050.

It’ll be easy, they insist. Rubbish, Even a 25-40% reduction over the next twelve years would impose major sacrifices on families, workers and communities, especially poor ones – while leaving no room for population or economic growth.

Fossil fuels provide 85% of the energy we use. Slashing emissions by even 25% means slashing the use of these fuels, paying vastly more to control and sequester emissions, and radically altering lifestyles and living standards. Families will do so voluntarily, or under mandatory rationing systems, enforced by EPA, courts, climate police and “patriotic” snitches. Getting beyond 25% would require a “radical transformation” of life as we know it.

Senator Joe Lieberman admits his “climate protection” bill would cost the United States “hundreds of billions” of dollars. Economist Arthur Laffer calculates that “cap-and-trade” schemes would reduce economic growth and penalize average American families $10,800 in lost income by 2020.

That’s on top of the $2000 in higher energy costs that US families have endured since 1998 – and the 11% extra that USA Today says average households will pay this winter compared to a year ago. Higher energy costs will increase the price of everything we eat, drive, buy and do.

Reaching or exceeding 25% targets could require transformations like these.

Parking your car – and riding a bike. You’d get to work and the grocery in better shape – and guilt-free if you don’t exhale.

Disconnecting air conditioners and setting thermostats to 50 degrees all winter. Swim suits and UnderArmor are excellent substitutes.

Eating all leftovers. Seattle has decreed that by 2009 single-family homes must recycle all table scraps – because their decomposition generates greenhouse gases – or have their garbage collection terminated.

Shutting down coal and gas power plants, and replacing them with new nuclear plants or forests of gargantuan wind turbines. Blanketing Connecticut with turbines could meet New York City’s electricity needs, and covering Texas and Louisiana could satisfy US needs, at least when the wind is blowing, says Rockefeller University professor Jesse Ausubel.

Closing paper mills and factories. Perhaps newly unemployed workers could find jobs in China and other developing countries, where the tough emission standards won’t apply – or in the new carbon-free economy that politicians promise will arise once climate bills are enacted.

Closing dairy and poultry farms. Producing meat accounts for 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions, so this would make both greens and PETA happy.

Adopting “sustainable green technologies,” like the treadle-powered irrigation pumps environmentalists are sending to poor countries, to replace diesel pumps. An Indian villager toiling on his eco-bicycle for three years could offset the CO2 from one jetliner full of environmentalists heading to Bali.

An appropriately green solution would be requiring that climate confabs be via video-conference – from Albania or Zambia, to discourage attendance by bureaucrats and activists. We might also insist that politicians eschew private jets and take Smart Cars to campaign and global warming rallies.

Meanwhile, China is adding the equivalent of another Germany every year to global greenhouse emissions, says climatologist Roger Pielke. Thus, if CO2 really does cause climate change, all these sacrifices might prevent global temperatures from rising 0.2 degrees.

Adapting to whatever heat, cold, floods, droughts and storms nature (or mankind) might bring seems a much saner and less costly course of action.

Climate Change
The climate is changing. It always has. It has been getting warmer since the nadir of the Little Ice Age, aroung the year AD 1500. The average temperature, however, is still below the 3000 year norm, and well below the averages during the Medieval Climate Optimum, approximately AD 1000 to 1300. That was the time when Greenland was, green. If the warming trend were to continue at the rate it had, up until 1998, then it would be several centuries before we would approach the warmer temperatures of the MCO, but it appears to have stopped in 1998. It could begin to go the other way.
One thing, however, is a fact, man does not influence the climate.

This figure was great:
An Indian villager toiling on his eco-bicycle for three years could offset the CO2 from one jetliner full of environmentalists heading to Bali.

But remember, these jets fly "All the time" to get the mantra of global warming out. The poor guy will have to have his son, grandson, and great grandson in perpetual motion just to pay for this years travels by Al Bore.

It's all over but the shouting...
As usual with "end of the world" nihilistic nitwits, and the congregation of the Church of Anthropomorphic Global Warming are certainly that, technology has yet again made them look the fool.

1) Nanosolar, who began construction of their first low cost solar panel printing facility in Silicon Valley (production output rated at 400 megawats production/year) two years ago just shipped their first order of solar panels (rated at 1 megawatt capacity) to the former East Germany. The price/watt came in at $2.10/watt. Coal fired powerstations cost anywhere from about $2.30->$3.00/watt before you buy your first lump of coal. Nanosolar figures that when their production line is fully ramped up that the production price for their printed panels will drop to as little as $0.30/watt. That sorts out most of our electricity generating capacity problems, especially the very expensive peak capacity requirements.

2) Shell Oil has just demonstrated an in situ shale oil extraction method in Colorado that will let them tap the enormous shale oil reserves in that part of the West at an extraction cost of about $40/bbl. At current US demand of 21 million bbl/day we're talking about a 200-250 year reserve of very high quality light oil.

There you are folks. The means are there. All that is lacking now is the investment capital to build up the production capacity. I expect that money for that is going to be very easy to come by, somehow.

:-p

If Global Climate Change is an issue,...
it is a global issue; and, it is amenable only to a global solution. No solution pursued by a local community, a county, a state, even a nation is global in scope; and, thus, they are doomed to failure.

An 80% reduction in global emissions of CO2 by 2050, which would require a reduction of approximately 95% in the US, would require investments of $50-100 trillion globally over the period.

This seems like a very large investment in the precautionary principle!

The Control Freaks are at it Again.
If they were really serious about cutting CO2 emissions, they'd be all for increased use of nuclear power plants which combined with hydroelectric, solar and wind could provide all our electric needs without any carcon emissions. Solar and wind power won't meet our needs because the sun and wind aren't available 24/7. Nuclear is.

Are we really that stupid
Are we really that stupid to run off the cliff blindly following each other like the hapless Lemmings?
After having just returned from Asia and spending most of my time in Manila, the first day I realized that this global warming hysteria was exactly that, hysterical rantings of those who are most to benefit from ill conceived global warming legislation. The UN now stands to gain enormous power and wealth of member countries economic policies and something the UN has long sought, the ability to create a global taxation scheme the would virtually guarantee the UN vast amounts of revenue that would bypass member countries legislative bodies and their ability to control revenue to support the UN.
I personally observed a particular group of eco-environmentalists having a jolly good time at a 5 star Manila Hotel bar and at the time they didn't seem all that interested in the polluted air around them from the congested Manila thoroughfares.
Are Americans going to be that stupid to allow the UN to have unfettered access to their wallets, which is something the UN has sought for many, many years. Unfortunately, Yes Americans are that stupid and will follow each off the cliff and descend this country into 3rd world status.

I have seen zero evidence...
...suggesting that all of the "carbon emissions" reductions contemplated or requested will have more than a minuscule effect on global climate. We simply are not powerful enough to reverse the course of nature.

Not even the politically-motivated IPCC can produce evidence suggesting that carbon reductions will reduce temperatures more than a tiny fraction of a degree.

In other words, the entire effort is politically motivated bunk.

Half of America has finally and completely surrendered to Marxism, and is willingly and deliberately dismantling capitalism. They're doing so without even the slightest indication that they will benefit in the slightest. They're told "We have to do SOMETHING" and "Our lives depend on it," but the solution they've been offered has zero chance of changing anything.

We might not survive this onslaught economically. It appears the Marxists have finally succeeded in destroying capitalism.

Write your congressman regularly and encourage him to stand firm against the nonsense.

(Unrelated to this topic, please read my political blog, called "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Thanks.)

back to simpler times
I work at a coal mine. All coal is the result of old swamps (ie growing stuff). In order to grow, the plants / trees / shrubs / grasses / molds / ferns / mosses removed carbon from the atmosphere and formed stalks and stems and cells and other living, growing things from them. The act of burning coal restores this carbon to the environment from whence it came (a long, long time ago).

Isn't it the same folks that are urging us to live simpler lives as in the past who are now saying they don't want the air returned to it's relative proportions from the past?

(no, this isn't a particularly strong anti-AGW arguement, but I find it amusing regardless)

I demand something be done!
AGW proponents (nutcases) have used some weird evidence of GW. One that has them worried is the melting of glaciers on Greenland and having them slide into the ocean. They say it will result in flooding NYC and the rest of the east coast.

Now we find out that the claciers are melting because the earths crust is very thin under Greenland and magma is the cause for the melting. Just as the nut cases demand we stop GW, I'm going to demand that we stop the magma!

My solution is to tax Americans to pay for it!

UN
If we allow this crap we might as well elect Hugo Chavez there won’t be any difference.
It is all about control pure and simple.
I pledge allegiance to the United Nation of the world, where we give up all our God given rights and prosperity for the better good for all the world, now shut up and open your wallets.

Gore Says 1/3 emissions from burning.
In Gore's film, he says that 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions come from burning of forests in South America and central Africa. Such burning produces only land for subsistence farming or a few more cattle. The economic gain is pennies. Why don't we just pay them what they would earn and prohibit the burning? Whamo - immediate 30% reduction in greenhouse gases.

Firmly in My Cheek
It’s obvious that everything we can possibly do to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) should be immediately undertaken. The use of all fossil fuels should end within the next 6 weeks. As everyone knows, fossil fuels are petroleum, coal, and natural gas. With the simple stroke of a pen and the blind cooperation of 6 billion people we should be able to dramatically reduce green house gas emissions.

Now six BILLION people are a lot of folks, and all of them are spewing CO2 every minute of every day just by breathing. It’s patently obvious that this number must be reduced. I don’t subscribe to the eradication of entire populations, and we are eliminating all that nasty fossil fuel, so I believe we can afford to let natural attrition, with a little help, handle the reduction for us. We can start by limiting the production of offspring to one child per couple. Now, everyone won’t accept this step gracefully, and people being people (and enjoying the process); it will be necessary to have some penalties for noncompliance. Euthanasia of offenders, both participants in the second conception, should be instituted to prevent a spiraling birthrate. Voluntary sterilization should be recognized, applauded, and celebrated. “Sterility Showers, not Baby Showers” will be our motto. Within just a few generations we should have the population well under a billion, maybe sooner.

Yes, there will still be electricity available. All of those solar, wind, and nuclear plants will still be able to operate, for a while. All of these “alternatives” require petroleum, in some form, for their construction. I guess as parts break we can replace them with wood, if we don’t burn the wood for cooking or heat. So we may have some electricity for a few years.

So, even the most complex of problems can have a solution. All it takes is a clear head, rational thinking, and advanced problem-solving skills.

It takes a village idiot
to seize upon the fact that the earth's average? median? mode? temperature is increasing slightly over a very long period and conclude with no evidence that humans are to blame and the world will end if we don't do something immediately to stop the assigned cause.

Make no mistake, Al Gore can no more believe this crap than you or I. It is all about power, control, and the push for marxist tryanny. Just look at the victims the author barely began to outline. Why is the culprit of this alleged catastrophe in the making the very lifeblood of industrial economies and the vast increases in the standard of living we have witnessed. They are going for the jugular of our prosperity. Is it personal ambition or frustration on Gore's part? Is it simply research funding or peer pressure driving many scientists to flock to the banner and shout down their brethren? Or is it something more sinister? We know many if not most of the sheep can be driven by a controlled media and government but, what is driving the wolves? And are their enough herders to make a difference?

The sun is causing solar system
warming.

Google it, and you'll get 1.5 million hits.

All the planets and moons are warming because the sun is in a more intense period of radiation that occurs on a cyclic basis.

The earth is not experienceing green house gas warming because what warming there is shows on the surface, with atmospheric warming secondary.

Al Gore and his ilk merely want to control people's access to energy through taxation, fees, and restrictions. Maybe when the huge tax bites proposed by recent House legislation to "stop" global warming, people will be scared into really scrutinizing the greens' anti-civilization agenda.

Why Is It?
Why is it that no one of these people who demand that we need action to combat climate change want to combat climate change by injecting particulate matter into the upper atmosphere, which would reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the surface?

renny
"The sun is causing solar system
warming."

OK, the earth's surface has been warming for the past thirty years, give or take. And what's the sun been doing? For the first five-ten years, it was increasing in luminosity, but after that, it stabilized. In fact, in term of luminosity and sunspots, it's seen a slight decrease since then. So unless you know of a twenty year delayed reaction that the scientific community is unaware of, I think you're on the wrong track.

"the sun is in a more intense period of radiation that occurs on a cyclic basis."

That's true, and Singer and Avery's book 'Unstoppable Global Warming,' mentions that as well. However, what does that prove? Only that we would be in a warm period right now whether humans were around or not, and no one's disputing that. It's the amount of warming that's the issue.

"The earth is not experiencing green house gas warming because what warming there is shows on the surface, with atmospheric warming secondary."

Only if you're using old data (thank you, Dr. Christy). New data shows the exact opposite.

Driessen
"Even a 25-40% reduction over the next twelve years would impose major sacrifices on families, workers and communities,"

Except what we're seeing in Europe doesn't fit that scenario. I'm the first to agree that overall, Kyoto has been a failure, but both England and Sweden cut their CO2 emissions significantly below 1990 levels (12% in the case of the UK, most likely a similar amount in the case of Sweden), and their economies are doing better than ever.

dbz77
They don't have the means to do so-and they know it.

We'd need another Krakatoa to accomplish what you propose.

Ain't gonna happen, unless the supervolcano supposedly under Jellystone decides to wake up...

Maybe they could sacrifice a virgin or something, ya think? ;)

Political propaganda is NOT science
Political propaganda is NOT science. UK court says Gore is a fraud. August 2007 Update: Man-made Catastrophic Global Warming Not True. Unfortunately, Hansen is a political hack of George Soros. Further, flawed NASA Global Warming data paid for by George Soros. In order to be an intelligent reader you must have a basic knowledge. Please do your own homework; a starting point http://www.InteliOrg.com/ Remember CONSENSUS is NEVER science it’s always a POLITICAL STATEMENT (a Party Line).

Global Warming skeptics
Thank god you guys are the minority

Let's get some "control"
I see the comment over and over from conservatives that ameliorating global warming is all about others exerting "control" over their lives. I wonder if it has ever occurred to them that weatherizing their homes and installing solar panels (two great ways to address global warming) could give them MORE control over their lives by making them at least partly self-reliant. So much for that rugged individualism that conservatives supposedly favor.

Bogus Arguments
DrColes warns that "Political propaganda is NOT science." Exactly. Which is why I find hackneyed conservative denialist propaganda so infuriating. Yeah, its all about Al Gore and George Soros, and Hollywood liberals. And the handful of climate scientists who question aspects of global warming automatically qualify as the world's wise men, even if several thousand of their compatrots---no doubt all of them closet socialists willing to sell their integrity for some grant funding---believe otherwise.

Then there's that UK court that supposedly labeled Al Gore as a fraud. DrColes apparently failed to "do the Google," or he would know that the judge in the case referred to some specific questionable statements in "An Inconvenient Truth," but also said that he had "no doubt" that the defendant's expert was "right when he said that: 'Al Gore's presentation of the causes and likely effects of climate change in the film was broadly accurate.' "

What conservatives who told to this kind of nonsense need to be asking themselves is what is it about their ideology that makes them so stubbornly resistant to accepting the weight of scientific evidence on this issue. I would suggest that is the ideology, not the mainstream science, that is more likely bogus.

Please...
Solar panels? Have you any clue how much they cost? They'll never return the value.

How much is the UK really reducing it's consumption? It buys credits from third world countries to meet its quotas.

I have an idea to stop global warming. Why don't we ban the use of private jets and eliminate all first class seating? Then we can make it illegal to have a home over say...5,000 square feet? With Al Gore's monstrosity we can house at least three families. Celebrities should be forced to ride buses to the Oscars.

Sir Aaron
My friend had two small solar panels installed on his house. They cut his power bill in half, well worth the investment.

AliveinHim
Nuclear detonations can accomplish what I proposed.

Carl Sagan mentioned this in a debate with William F. Buckley back in 1983, following the broadcast of a televised movie.

If pro-GW folks
are so sure of their position, why then do they quell any opposition? They should be able to convince people, if they had the evidence, that is. Threatening to arrest dissenters? Yeah, let's let these people be in charge, not!

Enviro-whackos are true nut-jobs
It is the very HEIGHT of hubris to believe that mankind is the determinant factor in a system as HUUUUGE as the climate of the ENTIRE PLANET!

The enormity of that kind of arrogance is staggering.

In order for their idiotic ideas to have any basis at all, they have to start from the proposition that the climate is, by nature, a static system. Which then adds incredible stupidity to the mix.

12,000 years ago, a mere blink of the eye in geological time, the entire N. American continent down to and including LA was covered under a vast sheet of permanent ice.

How do they 'splain that, Lucy?

definitive proof
no one has absolute proof that man has caused global warming.

let's say that man has caused global warming. so what!

let the earth get warmer and let those who can adapt.

it is nothing more than a power grab.

if it is a problem, then wouldn't you think that those that really believe this nonsense would start doing the things that they profess we all do?

where are all the enviromentalists that have disconnected from the electricity grid, stopped all motor transportation, eating only local or home grown produce? no, there too busy flying around in their private jets telling us how bad we are and what will happen if we don't listen to them. hypocrites!

right on
Al Gore caused Global Warming with all that
hot air he puts out.

global warming is not the direct issue
There is bigger issue: whatever the effect CO2 levels are now 4 times what they have ever been in the existence of Homo Sapiens as a species. What this leads to is open to scientific question but this is a fact. an such major perturbation on the environment is something to try to avoid. We have to lower CO2 emissions and all other global destabilizing effects we have on environment. The ecosphere is like our body. the act of a poison is setting system out of equilibrium. CO2 is poisoning the world in the quantity we are emitting, just as even too much water is poison to the human body.

AGW skeptics in the minority???
From what I have seen lately more and more scientists have said that the AGW scam is indeed a fraud. The only people still touting this scam are, the U.N. politicians, a handful of U.S. politicians, and crooks who expect to profit from it.

The theory of AGW has been shown to be a fraud over and over again. Once NASA corrected it's fraudulent data it is now evident that not only have recent years not been heating up, but we are now actually in a cooling trend.

But all you eco-idiots need not fear, you have the crooked politicians on your side. Bush and company always were for it, just not in the U.N. manner. All of the Lamocrat communists are for it and all but one of the top tier republican candidates are for it (yes that includes Huckleberry-lib also). The only top tier candidate of both parties not supporting AGW is Fred Thompson.

It is not really about control. It is about taxes, socialism, political favors for reelection, and seeking competitive advantage through political favors (business). The fixes currently in the mill are carbon taxes and cap and trade, or the better handle would be favors and trade.

The Lamocrats like taxes and the trade schemes. The Repukes like the trade schemes alone. Sorry Big Al, your carbon sink scam has pretty much lost out. Even your communist buddies are no longer pushing it. The U.N. crooks don't care which method the U.S. uses as long as we send money to the latest "leader for life" that they can improve their Swiss holdings.

record cold
I think there was record cold temperatures last winter. Where were the globull warming people then. I don't see people throwing away their winter coats yet. Come on people whatever happened to reading an almanac to study temperature data over the past 100 years. The average temperature has not changed in New York.

Global Warming denials
Why should I care what a handful of corporate backed "Wizards" say when an overwhelming majority of the best scientists we have say Global Warming is real?

Yes the Earths temperature fluctuates, that is a fact. With man's incursion and greed on our environment we can expect the fluctuations to become more drastic. In fact all we need for a catastrophy is an average temperature change of a few degrees and our life as we know it will change forever. Is that worth it? All so that you can keep living your greedy lives, driving your SUV's and using up the earth's natural resources.

Europe has already begun to cut their emmisions and there economy is skyrocketing. In the UK a British pound is now worth two of our dollars. We can't let them get ahead in environmental technologies, they will surely pass us as the next superpower and we will become a polluted third world country.

Hurricanes
Where are all the Global warming nuts who were predicting the worst huricane season this year? Ah silence! Their keeping their heads down. Gee two years in a row and they missed their mark.
Don't worry, now thye will come up with some scenario that the LACK 0f major hurricanes is caused by global warming!!

Revenge
This isnt about GLOBULL WARMING its about shutting down the greatest nation on Earth. Remember no one around the WORLD likes America any more just ask the LIBS so what does it take. A LIB running arouns the world in his Private Emmissions eating Jet and bad mouthing his own country again. Now I know I might catch some flack for this but its all POLITICAL. I think we have read this book before. Have you noticed that everyone of these ARSEHOLES are Rich. So why should the care about taking other peoples rights and money away from them. Wow to listen to the LIBS only REPS are rich people. We will see a new tax come along if a LIB gets the Presidency. You can take that to the bank. Gore already blamed America as the sole source of GLOBULL WARMING now thats an AMERICAN PATRIAT we can be PROUD of.

Replies to the true believers
1. I was hit with the gospel of Thomas Kuhn when I entered college. I'm not impressed by your "evidence." Why not be honest and tell me about the anomalies instead? Then, if it seems minor, I might become a true believer, too.

2. Frey, et. al., Sweden gets a lot of its electricity from nuclear power. Can we do the same?

3. How about the revision last summer in the "warmest year on record?" It's now acknowledged to be 1934 rather than 1998. Yet you guys still talk as though it was 1998. It's proof that you guys are relying on faith and not evidence.

4. Some of us want global warming. I hate cold weather. Ask those without power after recent storms in the Midwest what they think about global warming.

Bill Brasky writes:
"...In fact all we need for a catastrophy (sic) is an average temperature change of a few degrees and our life as we know it will change forever."

Exactly what evidence do you have to demonstrate that an increase, "of a few degrees," in overall global temperature would be detrimental to humanity?

What do you mean by a "few degrees?"

Is there a reason you don't drive an SUV? Perhaps you can't afford one?
Do you ride your bike to work?
Do you own a business, or are you employed by a 'greedy' corporation?
Perhaps you live in an apartment? Is it made of wood? Does it utilize any of "earths natural resources?" How do you generate an income? Do you use up any of earths resources to feed your personal greed?

What about the clothes you wear? You do wear clothes? Are they synthetic fibers? Do you make your own clothing? Do you use natural fibers? How are they derived? Corporate manufacturing? Is your spinning wheel made of wood? That might be considered a natural resource.

You really need to stop shouting at the man in the mirror. Maybe if you would be the first to adopt your own advice and stop condemning everyone else with such a broad brush you might be taken a bit more seriously.

And another thing...
Environmentalism has generally hit the poor like a regressive tax. OK, it's nice that environmentalists are trying to give a break to poor countries, but what about poor people in the U.S?

What's your plan to help them?

really accurate predictions

How many of you remember Newsweek forcasting a new Ice Age with Canada as one big sheet of ice?

Check it out: http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm

Few deny that there is climate change. The argument is how much man is to blame and how much is natural cycle.

Remember, hot air rises. Wonder why Gore isn't on the moon yet.

dbz77
We'd need more than one nuclear detonation-and I'm afraid that the power necessary would not only add the particulates claimed necessary to cool things down (!) but would annihilate us as well. I can't recall immediately but Krakatoa put more junk in the air (enough to lower temps for three years-not great for farmers) than we could even hope to equal.

Burn down the village to save it?

Mark, unfortunately for this whole stupid scam all of life on Earth is carbon-based. Dead or alive, carbon is the base element of all living organisms.

The question is, how much is "too much" and who gets to decide?

I daresay Algore and his mirmadons (sp?) have put forth more emissions than New York City at rush hour.

Europe's economy is
skyrocketing???? Not only has Europe not met theor Kyoto goals, but their econamy hasn't changed since Kyoto. Their economy was in the pits before Kyoto and it is in the pits now. If we had their economy for as long as they have you liberals would be calling it depression.

The scientists are all sayng this is a fraud now except for the crooks in the U.N. Everyone who promotes this fraud should be in jail.

"global warming is not the direct issue
There is bigger issue: whatever the effect CO2 levels are now 4 times what they have ever been in the existence of Homo Sapiens as a species. What this leads to is open to scientific question but this is a fact"

Dear Sir or Madam:

This is a blog. However, that does not exempt you from fact checking; and, it certainly does not give you carte blanc to "create" facts.

You are certainly entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own facts.

Ron about Gorebal Warring
Plaasjaapie: The money for this is annually taxed away from the companies that could do it.

Glaciers are frozen water that is needed as condensation for barren and frozen lands of this planet. This causes drought and flooding. When glaciers melt, some water will run into the oceans to fill space presently filled by sea ice which contracts when it melts. Some water will thaw the ground below where the glacier was, and soak into the ground.

The heat of the sun, and the absence of cold from glaciers and sea ice will cause more water to be evaporated from the oceans, lakes, and rivers into the upper atmosphere than there presently is; and the winds will blow it evenly around the world, providing normal rainfall world-wide, even where there presently is drought, and barren and frozen land, preventing flooding.

The worldwide rainfall will cause long-dormant seeds under glaciers and in barren lands to sprout and grow into new plants, the best way to go green. The new plants will inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, which we breathe. There will be so many new plants, that we might have to increase the amount of carbon dioxide we generate, to provide enough for all of them

A glacier in Greenland is melting, returning the land to the way it was a millennium ago. Larger crop yields are already the result, and the codfish have returned.

Parts of the world are still experiencing record low temperatures. Snow fell before leaves fell, and over a month before winter started. We need global warming as soon as possible.

ModerateMark
Why would anyone be embarrassed by mentioned the Newsweek article?

Most of us aren't scientists, and we have to take their claims on trust. And the fact that scientists, by today's theories, got it wrong thirty years ago doesn't inspire a lot of trust, except of course among the gullible.

Double Standard?

Moderate Mark

Not in the least.

I would be embarrased by blin d faith in what ever the flavor of the decade is.

This was to illustrate that in 2050, people may be laughing about the great global warming scare.

And to respond to global warming= hurricanes.
This last hurricane season was supposed to be worse than the year before , but it was an average year. (PS Hurricane are low pressure systems fed by warm water, must have not found too many hot spots this year)

What's needed:
Four points:

1. The head of Meteorology @ MIT doesn't buy AGW. Neither does the Dir of the Swedish National Space Ctr, the head of the Marine Geophysical lab @ James Cook Uni in AUS, 8 researchers @ the International Arctic Research Center, and hundreds of other real scientists - they ALL know more than any of us here. And lots more than the "2,000 scientists" on Al's list - which includes a couple of gynecologists and a hotel manager, a few plastic surgeons and a couple of other morons.

2. Gore has been trying to be a preacher all his life - his grad school was Divinity - he flunked out. As someone pointed out above AGW is just religion - and Gore has found his pulpit.

3. Congress voted in Aug 1997 UNANIMOUSLY AGAINST (95-0) Kyoto language. Blaming non-submission to this UN idiocy on Bush is ignorant. That vote was under Clinton/Gore - final treaty language - before our delegation went to Kyoto.

4. Will someone PLEASE pass a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting Baby Boomers from holding office before they destroy the rest of the planet, Western Civilization and all our liberties?

“Why are the opinions of scientists sought [about global warming] regardless of their field of expertise? Biologists and physicians are rarely asked to endorse some theory in high energy physics. Apparently, when it comes to global warming, any scientist’s agreement will do.”

AGW
“The most recent survey of climate scientists, following the same methodology as a published study from 1996, found that while there had been a move toward acceptance of anthropogenic global warming, only 9.4% of respondents “strongly agree” that climate change is mostly the result of anthropogenic sources. A similar proportion “strongly disagree.” Furthermore, only 22.8% of respondents “strongly agree” that the IPCC reports accurately reflect a consensus within climate science.”
Professor Dennis Bray

“If long-term trends are accepted as a valid measure of climate change, then the air temperature and ice data do not support the proposed polar amplification of [CO2-induced] global warming. The potential importance of large-amplitude variability and numerous feedbacks involved in Arctic atmosphere-ice-ocean interactions implies that the Arctic poses severe challenges to generating credible model-based projections of climate change.”

Most-caring Americans: Lead! You First!
It's not unreasonable (is it?) to demand our public servants - the best, brightest, and most-caring - to lead the charge in this looming doom over catastrophic global warming to just tweak the thermostats in all government buildings to allow them to be naturally-and-organically cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer. This is action they can take now, without even asking permission of the taxpaying citizens. Be the brave leaders we chose you to be.

And I'm certain all those patriotic public employees will applaud themselves for making the first wave of sacrifice. We can name this new national movement after one of their long-ago heroes, the "Jimmy-Carter-in-a-Sweater".

This will be even more entertaining to watch next summer, when it gets really hot in those government offices. And those government vehicles will need to participate as well, of course. Keep the wave rolling right into next fall's election season.

Such a movement can even be effective at the local level, too, certainly. Suggest it to your smarmy neighbor. No A/C for oil!

Think of our children's future.

Shalom.

AGW
“There is a problem with global warming – it stopped in 1998.”
The Telegraph [UK], 2006

Global warming
Global warming will cease to be a "crisis" when what is being done to combat the "crisis" seriously damages our economy and people start telling our elected officials that they're going to be out of a job if they don't fix it.

A good many of the people flapping their gums about global warming will be the first to complain when the reality of the economic costs hit home.

My solution to the problem: Would everyone who believes in global warming please take a deep breath . . . and hold it!

Norway
The same people who presented Owlgore with the Peace Prize, are doing great. They signed the Kyoto Protocol. Good job Norwegians!

"Just as Norwegian delegates to the UN's conference on climate change started heading home from Bali, came news that Norway's own carbon emissions rose 80 percent from 1990 to 2004. Statoil's refinery at Mongstad is the biggest contributor."

Control
If you doubt that this issue is about control, check this out:

Hillman, senior fellow emeritus at the Policy Studies Institute, says carbon rationing is the only way to ensure that the world avoids the worst effects of climate change. And he says that the problems caused by burning fossil fuels are so serious that governments might have to implement rationing against the will of the people.

"When the chips are down I think democracy is a less important goal than is the protection of the planet from the death of life, the end of life on it," he says. "This has got to be imposed on people whether they like it or not."

IRREFUTABLE proof that AGW is a hoax.
It is not hard to see how this whole global warming scare is nothing but a total hoax. Seriously, if it really were such a big deal, would not the leading advocates of this scare be the first ones to do something to try to improve things in any way they can? Take AlGore® as an example. Were he serious about this AGW scare he won a Nobel Prize for informing the world about, one would think he would be the poster-child for how the rest of us should act, right?

AlGore® CLAIMS that buring fossile fuels is the reason why we're heading for disaster, yet he is on a private jet EVERY DAY hopping from one exotic location to another, with each trip consuming more fuel than an SUV consumes in an entire YEAR!

AlGore® CLAIMS that we need to become more efficient with our energy usage, yet his own home consumes more energy in one month than the average home consumes in a year!

AlGore® CLAIMS that Big Oil is responsible for all the "lies" about global warming, yet he is one of the largest stock holders of Occidental Petroleum!

AlGore® CLAIMS we're polluting our environment, yet he collects royalties from a zinc mine on his property. Zinc mines are among the most polluting mines on Earth.

It is QUITE OBVIOUS that even AlGore® himself doesn't believe his own garbage.

When he was confronted by a reporter about the energy consumption of his house, he let his TRUE motivations known. AlGore® said that he is ALLOWED to pollute more than we are because he's RICH and can afford to buy "carbon credits".

In other words, he and his rich buddies can go on living the high life, but us little pleebs should be remanded to the 7th century, poor, hungry, and powerless.

THAT, ladies and gentlemen, are the TRUE motivations behind this AGW scare: Make the rich and powerful more rich and more powerful, while making the rest of us destitute and dying.

Bill Brasky
I'm happy your friend was able to reduce his electric bill by 1/2. You might ask him though, how long it will take for him to recoup the cost. Most systems cost anywhere from $9K to over $30K for the average home. Even with incentives and in a high energy cost state, it takes most people at least ten years to recoup their initial investment. I personally could not get any tax credits, etc. for my investment and therefore would pay the entire cost myself. A large system still would provide only half my power and would cost me more per KWH than what my electric company costs me. I would never recoup my cost. How is that worth it?

For most people, and this is pretty well established, installing solar power will not save you money except maybe in the very long term. In my opinion

credibility of global warming
Look, I'm all for conserving the environment. I think we should constantly strive to reduce pollution. After all, I want to breathe clean air, walk through parks, etc. I just don't think we ought to go off the deep end in doing it. And it would be a lot easier to accept global warming if those advocating for dramatic lifestyle change weren't acting like a bunch of hypocrites. If Al Gore really thinks the Earth is doomed then why is he living in a palace and flying around in a private jet that emits more greenhouse gases in one trip than most people emit in a lifetime?

Secondarily, nobody can know how global warming can impact the earth. Deserts may increase, but previously frozen land will now be arable. Some areas may actually see in increase in rain. Convince me that global warming is going to cause the elimination of all mankind.

New Energy Bill and lightbulbs
I was watching fox news this morning and they were talking about the new energy bill and how great the new light bulbs are. I use the flourescent light bulbs in places where I can, but don't tell me they are great. Sure, they save electricity but they suck! They take a while to become bright, the light isn't as nice, and they are horribly expensive to purchase.

Congressional actions for AGW
are ALREADY hurting the economy. The ethanol mandate scam has driven the price of food through the roof and what as congress done about it? Yesterday they passed the Non-Energy Bill which mandates even MORE ehtanol use. Get ready for 10 dollar bread folks.

And what does ethanol do for the environment? if anything, harm.

Premise
The false premise underlying this whole idea is that GW is all bad. Why is that? If I were Canadian or Scandinavian or Russian, I would welcome the longer growing season. IF sea level rises by a foot or two in 100 years, I would think most people could outrun that.

Also, there is no "ideal temperature" for the earth. We can't set the thermostat like we do at home. It has always fluctuated (even before humans), and will continue to do so. Everyone else prior to this adapted, but we can't? Why not?

Sir Aaron
I couldn't agree more. Weaning ourselves off Middle Eastern oil through wind, solar, and wave power would be great. Getting hysterical WHILE RIDING EVERYWHERE IN JETS AND LIMOS helps no one.

Stop Global Warming
If they were serious about global warming, they would:
1) ban the use of pleasure boats and all outboard engines not on commercial fishing boats.
2) Limit dwelllings to 500 square feet per person.
3) Limit car travel to 210 miles per week and issue gas cards to assure it.

Godless Global Warming
Liberal Environmentalists believe Man is capable of controlling global temperatures only because they don't recognize the existence of a higher power in their universe!

Consider variations known to exist in our solar system, let alone the universe, and you will be amazed at how stable our earthly environment has been for millennia. Variation is expected, but if our global temperature were to cycle within a 100 degree F range between peak and trough it would still be incredibly stable as compared to the extremes existing in the universe. Such stability can only be attributed to a higher intelligence, and would be impossibly difficult for Man to duplicate under laboratory conditions.

Scientists have been tracking solar activity relative to the polar caps on Mars for more than several years and have observed a reduction in their size over that period. I think it is safe to say this change has not been caused by the emissions of SUV's running around that planet!

Get real
Big Al and the rest of the Global Warming cabal don't think that man is responsible, and they don't think that man can solve the problem. The one thing they know for sure is that they can make more money than anyone could possibly imagine.

U.S. taxpayers have already flushed $50 billion into Algore's world-wide toilet, creating more new millionaires and billionaires than any legitimate enterprise has ever created. They're not going to stop sucking us dry voluntarily. We have to turn off the spigot.

Gore is a polititian who couldn't even cheat well enough to get elected, but he needs to make a living. Global warming gives him the same kind of opportunity to get richer without working that he had in politics. We let it happen.

Again I say
If you believe the bible
Genesis 8:22
While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Who are you going to believe? Algore or God??

Who is man that can change something God sat up?
This whole thing is so ignorant. Al Gore is a mental case, plain and simple, and everyone that is following him are trying to destroy us.

M-squared
I'm not sure how Miami would be under 8 feet of water after a 2-foot rise in sea level, not that I would miss it (or SF) much anyway.

Did the conservatives?

Did conservatives give ALGORE a Nobel Peace Prize?

Did conservatives give ALGORE an Oscar for "An Incinvient Lie?"

Boiled down
Here is what it all comes down to. Like so many other things, at the bottom, this is about money.

The environmental group Friends of the Earth, in attendance in Bali, also advocated the transfer of money from rich to poor nations on Wednesday.

“A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources,” said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth.

Calls for global regulations and taxes are not new at the UN. Former Vice President Al Gore, who arrived Thursday at the Bali conference, reiterated this week his call to place a price on carbon dioxide emissions.

Climate Pow-Wow in Bali?
Bali is an interesting choice during the winter, isn't it?

While all the participants were enjoying the tropical climate, Colorado (and places further east later in the week) was hit by 3 major storms in a week. I've had a foot of snow and it isn't even Christmas yet. Last year, I had over 10 feet of snow for the winter, the most I can ever remember and I'm a native. And no, I don't live in the mountains.

A week later, I still have a glacier for a driveway and street, could I have some global warming to melt it? Oh yeah, that would be the SUN.

Owlgore
OwlGore wants to know "are you ready to change the way you live?" By YOU, he means, YOU, the little people. Today is the 273rd day since Owlgore refused. Classic liberalism. Read on...

Senator Inhofe Asks Hollywood’s Global Warming Activists “Are You Ready to Change the Way You Live”

“With Earth Day this Sunday, I am issuing an Earth Day Challenge to Hollywood’s global warming activists who talk the talk to walk the walk,” Senator Inhofe said. “I am asking celebrity activists to take the ‘Gore Pledge’ to reduce their home energy usage to that of the average American. Activists in Hollywood who assert that mankind only has 10 years left to act in order to avoid a climate catastrophe have made personal energy use a cornerstone of their pleas to the general public to save the planet. Hollywood activists should make personal energy sacrifices themselves before demanding others do so.

“It is my hope that journalists will ask these Hollywood celebrities point blank: ‘will you take the Gore Pledge to reduce your home energy usage to the level of the average American? Have you met the Earth Day challenge?’”

Senator Inhofe originally presented the challenge to former Vice President Al Gore at an EPW Committee hearing on March 21 – to which Gore refused, despite the former Vice President asking viewers in his movie An Inconvenient Truth “Are you ready to change the way you live?”

Good rules to live by. That, and "High taxes are only a burden if you actually pay them".

I guess Travolta isn't too worried about the Earth "Stayin' Alive" judging by all the gas and "Grease" his jets consume.

Bush and ethanol???
I know Bush is guilty of a lot of things but adding ethanol to gasoline is NOT one of them. This was first encouraged by the government through a tax break in 1978. If am not mistaken congress was overwhelmingly Lamocrat and Jimmy the incompetent was president.

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 required that government fleet cars be able to run on ethanol and set a goal of 30% use. This was again a Lamocrat congress and the last year of H. W. Bush.

http://e85.whipnet.net/ethanol.history/

The first requirement that a percentage of fuel be ethanol was the “energy policy act of 2005. This was proposed by a Republican senator from MS, not Bush. Most of the Lamocrats supported it, particularly those from the farm States.

I note that doubling the requirement for ethanol was passed in this Lamocrat congress. If it was a product of the evil Bushhitlerhalberten cabal why didn’t they eliminate it?

population and climate change
Well at least some of you admit that the climate is changing although it is because of natural cycles. But when the past changes occurred, only a few dinosaurs died off or a few other critters. This time there are 6 billion people on the planet and moving rapidly for the 10 billion mark. Fresh water is already in short supply, we have lined our shorelines with huge cities and developments of all sorts. Sea level is rising and the ice is melting. I don't think any of you can deny that. Farming is at best an iffy proposition, dependent as it is on rainfall. Climate change is about changing climates and that means changes in rain.

So what we have is 6+ billion people that are going to be affected, and about 2 billion of them are equipped with nuclear weapons, and theyre going to be hungry and thirsty and REALLY ticked off.

Tuesday Morning QB
Even sportswriters scoff...

Those Hollywood Searchlights Around Gore's Home Sure Eat Power:

Gore wasn't the first quack to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and history suggests he will not be the last. Gore spent eight years in the White House, and in that time took no meaningful action regarding greenhouse gases. The Clinton-Gore administration did not raise fuel economy standards for cars and trucks or propose domestic carbon trading. Though Clinton and Gore made a great show of praising the Kyoto Protocol, they refused even to submit the treaty to the Senate for consideration, let alone push for ratification. During his 2000 run for the presidency, Gore said little about climate change or binding global-warming reforms. In the White House and during his presidential campaign, Gore advocated no consequential action regarding greenhouse gases; then, there was a political cost attached. Once Gore was out of power and global-warming proposals no longer carried a political cost -- indeed, could be used for self-promotion -- suddenly Gore discovered his intense desire to demand that other leaders do what he had not! It is a triumph of postmodernism that Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for no specific accomplishment other than making a movie of self-praise. Gore caused no peace nor led any reconciliation of belligerent parties nor performed any service to the dispossessed, the achievements the Peace Prize was created to honor. All Gore did was promote himself from Hollywood, and for this, he gets a Nobel. Very postmodern.

More TMQ
Here are other possible reasons the Gores' home requires so much energy:

• Gore is building a time machine to return to Palm Beach, Fla., in October 2000.

• The former vice president is doing everything he personally can to cause global warming, so he can claim his predictions came true.

• Gore is growing marijuana in his basement. [Note from the corporate legal department: This is strictly a joke, ESPN is not accusing Al Gore of growing marijuana. We stand by our allegation that he is a sinister kingpin of international rare-bird smuggling.]

• Members of Gore's species require high power levels to maintain human form.

• Al and Tipper don't just leave the lights on when they make out, they leave the lights on all over the house.

ModerateMark
It's not a question of whether or not conservatives were "taking the hardline position of deny global warming exist".

That's not the issue.

It's that MAN is CAUSING IT.

THAT'S the idiocy promoted by the lefty tools.

BrianR
It's been a while, but I see you haven't lost your touch. It must be Hades on earth for Dems with Hannity, Limbaugh, Drudge et al pointing out their hypocrisies within minutes. To wit: OwlGore's house using more energy than the Astrodome, Rather's fake Bush story, Hillary's planted questions. They must pine for the old days when Liberal Cronkite said "that's the way it is" in that condescending liberal style, and could get away with it. Hence their eagerness to enforce the Fainress Doctrine, a drum I will not beat - for now.

Thanks, Phil!
Here's another one for you.

Google takes great pride in its "eco-friendly" and "green" corporate philosophy.

But when the president of the company got married, he flew 600 of his closest friends to a Pacific island for the nuptials, on a fleet of private jets.

Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.

"The rules are for thee, but not for me".

Brian
I prefer "Do As I Say, Not As I Do", but yours is more, um, Biblical...and both apply. Read above (if you haven't) about Inhofe's challenge to Owlgore and Travolta's green lifestyle. What a joke.

Heh heh... "biblical"...
Is that polite for "pompous"?

Hahaha.

It rhymes; that's why I like it.

Brian
No, I just meant "thee" and "thou" are in the Bible a lot...

Moderate One
We do deal with him by scoffing at his hypocrisy and idiocy. See above; even sports columnists ridicule him. It's actually funny to read stuff about their big do-nothing conference in Bali (nice!) with the superconducting supercollider of an A/C unit so nobody would look sweaty.

LOL, Mod Mark
Don't ask me to explain or defend Bush. I'm not a member of his fan club.

Yeah, frankly I wish he or someone had the balls to just stand up and say exactly that! Tell WhaleGore to shut his pie hole; that alone would forestall the warm-up for a decade or three.

Cutting carbon gas emissions by 2/3: WhaleGore vows silence!

BTW, I'm not worried about the business aspect. What are these other countries going to do? Refuse to sell to us?

Hahahaha!

Refuse to buy our products? That's even funnier!

Yeah, but you're talking on
the micro scale. One sale. Important to you, no doubt, but nothing in the overall scheme of things.

Where are they gonna buy their food? We're the breadbasket of the world.

They gonna boycott our technology?

And the bottom line is that the free market will be the ultimate arbiter.

They can rattle their sabers all they want; it's a tempest in a teacup.

MM and Brian
You're both right; I think "saying" you are "green" will suffice. In the end, consumers will choose based on either price or quality, not this nonsense. You never know, ten years from now when it's all been discredited, people might invest more heavily in the companies who weren't PC to begin with. It was only 30 years ago that we were expecting glaciers over Texas, remember?

Well, yeah....
I mean, Phil's right, Mark. And since you're talking about the CEOs, look at my earlier example a few posts up about Goggle's CEO and his wedding bash.

Hypocrisy will only carry them so far; then it boils down to ROI.

Money talks, the rest of this bulls**t walks.

Brian/Mark
I wondered where I read that Google thing. And I don't see people avoiding Google.

I hope you didn't pull a muscle mixing matephors earlier:)

Mark - I just saw your earlier post about trees. If anytihng, we should cut down more and replant them all (and then some). Why? Young trees, like teenagers, consume more than old trees (like 60-year-olds). Protecting old-growth forest might actually be counterproductive.

Heh heh... I have a Black & Decker
Metaphor Mixer, the Deluxe model.

Mixer
Does it run on biofuel?

Heck no!
Pure unadulterated high octane gasoline!

Spews CO2 into the air like WhaleGore on steroids!

ARE AMERICANS THAT STUPID?

.....Well Huckabee is leading in a lot of Presidental polls and he believes in man made Global Warming and probably would be willing to sign Kyoto ...

.....The Congress just passed an Energy Bill that mandates auto emissions standards on autos ...phasing out the incandesent bulb ...and more ethanol production and not one iota of new production even though we have a 200 year supply of clean oil in the Colorado oil shale ...

.....Are we that stupid? ...do the math .....COLOSSUS

Baseballdoc/Brian
Yes, we are that stupid.

Brian - drop by Hugh Hewitt's column if you want to see some blows landing.

EVERYBODY
We should buy enough "incandy" bulbs to last years so the "new" bulbs just sit on the shelves. I will have a lifetime supply of GE "Reveal" on hand.

AZphil
Your post @1:54 your last line about leaving the lights on. Remember the movie "A Christmas Story" (shown on TNT for 24 hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) when the lady went back into the house to turn off the "leg lamp" even when all the lights in the house were on. She got into the car and said "Don't want to waste electricity"
Sorry that last line reminded me of that. LOL

MM
I'm not sure what you are getting at. I don't even know for a fact about the tree thing. I have heard that since young, growing trees consume CO2 at a prodigious rate, having them around is better - strictly speaking about carbon - than having old ones. I'd be for planting more new trees, period.

While we're on this subject, one of the enviro- groups out here (AZ) is totally against any thinning or firebreaks in nature. They have filed lawsuits, successfully, to prevent such things. However, when forest fires start, sometimes 500,000 acres of trees burn (as recently as 2002). True irony is proving how much you love trees by letting millions of them burn. And that is a double whammy, with the smoke produced AND the resultant lack of CO2 sinks after the fire.

Global Warming Conference
It's all about money. Gore, Strong and others promoting Global Warming will become billionaires if cap and trade is adopted in the USA. It is already making him rich in Europe. He owns a company that sells the CO2 certificates to offset our "pollution". It's all a feel good thing that accomplishes nothing other than making the insiders rich. CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas, it's plant food that is necessary for life on this planet. The planet has warmed and cooled before. It will do so again

Whitey
.."warmed and cooled before. It will do so
again"..
Exactly!
