Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

A few days ago, I had a chance to catch up with Nebraska attorney general Jon Bruning, who recently announced he was challenging Senator Chuck Hagel in the Republican primary. Hagel's positions against the war in Iraq and for the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill have placed him at odds with most conservatives. Read on to see Bruning explain why "conservatives need a voice," share some of his campaign's internal polling, and talk about his own record, one he says consists of "zero maverick moments."

Bruning was re-elected to the attorney general's office last November unopposed. To learn more, visit his Web site at www.JonBruning.com.

PR: Challenging an incumbent is always daunting. How's it going so far?

JB: It's going spectacularly well by almost any measure. We've gotten a steady stream of emails from Nebraskans and even others out-state, saying "How do I help? How do I help you from Minnesota, how do I help you from Arizona?" And of course Nebraskans who feel very passionately about their state and the fact that they elected a Republican to act like one.

Frankly, that's what kicked me into this race in the first place. Initially when Hagel did his strange little press conference on March 12 when he said, "I don't know what I'm going to do," and the national media was very angry and Nebraskans were very embarrassed and the whole thing was a bit odd, I came out a couple of days later and said, "Yeah, I'll think about running, but I won't run against Hagel." I had always been a Hagel supporter, but I was just growing more and more frustrated.

In 2004, we had to listen to John Kerry in the debates quoting Hagel to our President. It was painful for Nebraskans, and more and more he was breaking with the President, and more and more he was doing it in a way that was an attempt to embarrass the President and the Republican Party. In March of this year, he votes with the Democrats on the strict timeline for troop withdrawal, and he talks about the impeachment of the President, and I just had had it, and thought, "You know what, I'm in a position to do something about this." Conservatives need a voice. And so ultimately in early April I decided I was going to run.

PR: I was going to mention that press conference. Three months later, we're still not sure what office he's running for. Does it help or hurt you to have such an elusive opponent?

JB: I didn't want people to think that I was unwilling to take on the big guy. I understand the size of that mountain that I'm attempting to climb. Incumbents don't lose very often. It's pretty hard for them to lose in a primary especially.

I don't take this lightly. I don't like the idea of a primary fight. But I'm not the one that left the Republican Party. I'm right where I was at the beginning of this thing. Hagel is the one who has turned hard left. And not just on the big issues. He voted with the Democrats on Iraq, which is just very frustrating. He's voting with a mixed coalition that includes the President on immigration, which I think is a very bad bill. But even though I disagree with the President, I'm not going to call for his impeachment on that. I think it's a bad bill. If I was in the Senate I would go down the street and say "Mr. President, I disagree with this bill, and I can't support it." But I wouldn't demagogue the issue, and it's kind of embarrassing when someone talks of impeachment. And he voted for this silly resolution of no confidence against Attorney General Gonzales.

Hagel is just gone, in terms of everything. You'll find that even on the little votes now, Hagel will stick it to his own party. That kind of disloyalty doesn't go unnoticed. The other Republican Senators are very frustrated with him.

PR: Iraq has been a very challenging issue for the country and for the Republican Party. Do Republican voters in Nebraska still side with you, or with Chuck Hagel?

JB: No question that there are a lot of conflicting emotions when it comes to Iraq. Nobody loves war. But I think Nebraskans still stand in a place where they believe that it's better to engage terrorists and have the War on Terror over in the sand several thousand miles away than it is to have it on our soil here.

This War on Terror and this War in Iraq is not just about Iraq. It is about terrorism worldwide. This is the front line in the battle against al Qaeda. This is it. It's in Iraq right now. And if we leave Iraq, al Qaeda will have won. And eventually they're going to be back here on our soil. Right now they don't have time to figure out how to get here, because they're fully engaged with us there. And they are wearing out their welcome. You listen to General Petraeus and you know that al Qaeda is wearing out its welcome. Its tactics in the long term are going to serve to alienate the people of Iraq. I firmly believe we're doing the right thing. It's a horrible thing to have to pay for our efforts in the lives of American soldiers, but freedom isn't free. And it takes the courage of our soldiers to keep this great country free.

PR: We know that Chuck Hagel is a supporter of the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill. How would your approach to that issue be different than Hagel's?

JB: Every proposal Hagel has had out there has included amnesty. I think it's wrong for the United States to again, 21 years later, lay out another amnesty plan. If we start doing this more often than once a generation, why would anyone abide by the laws? You just wait for the next amnesty offer. It just breeds disrespect for our laws.

How would I do it different? I would start by securing the border. We have not done that well enough. There are many many things we can do. We can start with the billion dollars that's been appropriated but not been spent by Homeland Security. This is the greatest country in the world and to say we can't secure our borders is crazy.

I don't think anyone thinks we're going to end immigration. We're all immigrants. I've got a picture here on my desk of my great great grandfather and my great great grandmother who came to Ellis Island in 1861 and ended up in Nebraska, in the little town of Bruning, by the way. They came in the right way, if we need to allow more people into the country to keep the economy churning, then write it into the laws that way – Congress, you have the power. What we can't do is have a set of laws we're just ignoring.

PR: Does the campaign have any internal polling you can share?

JB: We polled it at the end of April, so it's probably six weeks old now, give or take, and I led Hagel by 9 points. In a Republican primary sample, I led him by 47 to 38 percent. If you push it just a little bit, when you say that Hagel had discussed the impeachment of the President as an option, and if you knew Senator Hagel had voted with the Democrats on matters regarding Iraq, including a strict timeline for troop withdrawal, then for whom would you vote, it goes to a 24 point lead – 55-31 percent.

PR: How do you feel about your chances in a highly contested statewide race? Lots of times people will throw out the argument, "Well, he's challenging an incumbent who can win. Why rock the boat?" How are you different?

JB: I've been elected statewide twice, which is the exact number of times Chuck Hagel has been elected. Nebraskans know me. I'm a known quantity. The statewide name ID figures for Hagel and I were virtually identical, except my favorables were higher and unfavorables were lower. We were both at 90-something name ID. My favorables in the 60s, his were barely over 50%. His unfavorables were 40% and mine were 6%.

I'm a known quantity in Nebraska. My family is five generations of farmers. I married a farm girl. Nebraskans know that at the end of all this for me, that I'm going to live here. There's just no doubt in my mind where I'm going to be when I'm 65 or 70 or whatever it is when I hang it up.

I think people ought to ask Senator Hagel the same question because he's lived in Virginia since 1971. He moved back to Nebraska in '94 to run for the Senate seat after having considered whether or not to run for governor of Virginia. He decided that a Senate seat here in '96 would be a better play. He won the Senate seat and promptly moved back to Virginia. I'd be interested in the largest number of days he spent in a row in this state since he won the Senate election. He probably never sold his Virginia house.

How do I feel about the opportunity to win a general election? I feel fine about it. I know Nebraskans, whether you're in a small town or from Omaha and Lincoln. I'm right in the middle of that. I'm not someone who needs to work hard to figure out to fit in with Nebraskans. I am one.

PR: I'm guessing conservatives will be very happy to know you're not Chuck Hagel. If I'm an activist in Pennsylvania or Iowa who's thinking about supporting you, what should I know about Jon Bruning?

JB: They should know that I'm going to be steady to the point of boring them. They're not going to have to guess where I'm going to be. I've got a ten year history in politics that is straight as the Nebraska interstate. I'm going to be in favor of the Second Amendment, every time. I'm going to be pro-life, every time. I'm going to be in favor of more efficient smaller government and lower taxes every time. If they would look at my legislative record and couple it with my record as Attorney General, they are going to find zero maverick moments. I know what I believe. I'm comfortable with what I believe, and that's what Nebraskans are going to get when I'm in the Senate. That's what Americans are going to get when I'm in the Senate. I'm not saying I don't think about the issues. I think about them very deeply, but I know what I believe. And I'm not going to blow with the political winds based on my own ambition or the moment in history.

Warner gone, next is Hagel
Sen. Warner avoided the primary challenge and probable loss that awaits Hagel by retiring. Maybe Democrats will reelect people who betray them, but GOP voters will not. The GOP Senators who supported McCain/Kennedy/Bush amnesty will be replaced.

Deep down he's shallow.
Did Bruning miss a single cliche from our current brand of popular culture? Hagel is a "maverick" for not supporting the president on Iraq, and he's also a "maverick" for supporting the President on immigration.

We have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here, and it's a good thing we don't have to fight them over here because our border security is so bad we don't have a hope of keeping them out. But Mr. Bruning can't see the contradiction between an utterly fantastical strategy in the Middle East coupled with a complete neglect of our borders. The border security issue is about 9/11, not immigration. And if we had border security over here, we wouldn't need to fight them over there.

But it won't much matter in 2008. EVERY Republican candidate is going to be running for cover on the Iraq issue in 2008 so Bruning isn't going to be able to use that against Sen. Hagel.

It has often been the fate of anti-war candidates to pay for their defiance with defeat (witness Sens. Wayne Morse and Ernest Gruening, the only two Senators to vote against the Tokin Gulf Resolution, both were defeated for re-election. But Bruning is starting too late in the game. He might get to Hagel on the immigration issue, but Iraq will work to his disadvantage.

One would hope, however, that Nebraskans aren't really looking for someone as shallow as Mr. Bruning to represent them in the Senate.

Chuck Hagel is no RINO....
Chuck Hagel has one of the most conservative records in the senate.

His votes are always for less entitlements, lower taxes, pro-business ,anti-affirmative action and anti-abortion.

He is only being called a "RINO" because of his stance on TWO issues....

Undocumented Virginian
Wow! I hardly realized Hagel was an undocumented Virginian. Maybe that's why he supports the bill . . .

War Horse
Do you have a sight or address where I can donate to him?

Hagel will not be re-elected!
As a Nebraska resident, I feel confident the LIBERAL RINO Hagel is history. Everyone I know is supporting Bruning with time and money. Hagel has not represented MS Nebraskans for several years now - I have yet to find anyone who speaks favorably of Hagel. Or Bush, McCain, Rudy, Romney, et al.

And the Supreme Court has started dismantling McCain-Feingold. Maybe there is some sanity somewhere in this world, but even hard to find on some of these postings in TH - slacker, Hal, tanabear, as examples.

TommyGun you said it before I got here
Congratulations, you said it before I logged on here to say it. The primaries will unite most Republicans. There will be a bunch of new names on the November ballot, McCain-Feingold notwithstanding.

Hal Donahue,
I said that high profile attacks were Decreasing as the war Heated Up, and that is true. I never said there were no attacks.

Then you quote the government saying that they are growing and expanding. What does "they" refer to? If you mean that the terrorists are coming out from behind the woodwork, that is exactly what I said.

Overwhelmingly, troops in Iraq want to stay, win, and finish the job. Where you get that they want out is unclear.

Correction
Sorry Hal meant Bay of Pigs, not Cuban Missile Crisis.

Hal
You forgot to mention the Cuban Missile crisis. korea had little to do with any of it since it was in Truman's time. Trying to figure your train of thought in that one. We happened when we blew those conflicts you listed? Subsequent treaties and accords. Those were policies of appeasement and containment. For example, the subsidizing of wheat below market price to Soviets.

tanabear
You are wrong also. McCain doesn't go along with everything he supports or vice versa. Neither does the base. We prioritize our issues. While we may agree with Bush on the war we don't on immigration and other issues. You forget McCain opposed the tax cuts. So did Hagel. Don't forget the illustrious gang of fourteen.

Hal Donohue
History is against you. Read In the Face of Evil. Your facts are wrong as to Reagan.

Front Runners

The only "Runner" who supports Jorge on this immigration bill is McStain. And McStain is going NOWHERE! Bush and his lap-dog RINOs like Hagel need to be THROWN OUT!!

Conservatives...Organize THIS year!
Good on you for opposing that RINO.

I hope conservatives organize in every state and in every Congressional District THIS YEAR. Find out how your Senators and Congressmemebers are voting on the most vital issues. If you're dissatisfied, pick a young up-and-coming real conservative man or woman THIS YEAR and organize a primary challenge for that person THIS YEAR.

Don't wait. Next year will be too late for you to get organized against entrenched incumbents.

Better yet, I'd love it if powerful conservative voices would make this a nationwide campaign, as in 1994.

Fakedy Fake Fake
conversations drift LOL

That said have a good day all and be well

Confusion Abounds
Bruning would not be in a Congress (save 20 days in 2009) where President Bush is still president. Why are you guys harping on Bush when discussing Bruning. That makes absolutely no sense.

Lolo
"Yes. Worked three years 8mos. on 4mos. off as a medic on the oil rigs in mainly Saudi Arabia."

Ok I wondered your view of the middle east is far different than mine

Lolo
"Reagan won the cold war during his administration. Up to that point policy and subsequent treaties were on appeasement and containment. He was the only one to ever attempt to actually bring it to head and win from either side of the aisle."

Hogwash LOL Let's see Korea, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and a 1,000 other conflicts and back pathways too numerous to mention

The First Call
All you in Nebraska that have been complaining, here is your opportunity.

This could be your man...come to think of it, just about anybody would be an improvement over Chukkie...

Get out and work for the man. You have one shot at it and that is in the primary.

Hopefully there will be someone of stature pop up in Arizona as well as a few other places.

Hal
Yes. Worked three years 8mos. on 4mos. off as a medic on the oil rigs in mainly Saudi Arabia.

BTW Hal
Reagan knew the cold war was created by concerted actions of previous 50 years of US policy and that of allies. Not concerted action the prior 50 years. Reagan won the cold war during his administration. Up to that point policy and subsequent treaties were on appeasement and containment. He was the only one to ever attempt to actually bring it to head and win from either side of the aisle. This is how obvious it is your lying. You need to read the playbook.

Lolo
Not one lie there at all. Do you have much experience living or working in the Middle East?

Support Bruning
I am from Arizona and I am going to support Jon Bruning. Even though I will not be able to vote for him, I can and Will send him a contribution to help him remove a RINO. I would be happy to send a contribution to any true conservative who could do the same with Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Trent Lott, etc. ...

This is something we MUST DO to take back control of our Republican Party.

If you are from another state, help this man defeat a liberal .... it's our party!!!

Hal Donohue
Keep lying since it suits your purposes.

Paul
I guess in 'politispeak' he should not have said that his folks went through Ellis Island.

But the Ellis Island thing has become figurative. The only river border is the Rio Grande along the Texas/Mexico border, yet illegals in California, Arizona and New Mexico are still 'wetbacks'.

Lolo
"When I say Russians I mean just that. You think your being smart by splitting hairs and in actuality your just being smarmy. Who won? We did! And who brought that about and would not contain or appease even his own country? Ronald Reagan. You could learn something from him."

Actually I did and I worked with his administration. And even Reagan knew the cold war was won by the concerted action of allies and administrations over nearly 50 years. That was probably a greater victory than WWII looking back and far fewer died. Reagan knew when to hold em and when to fold them i.e. Lebanon. Our actions in Iraq are more Russian (if you will) thinking than Reagan thinking....

Joe Oliva
Stop sipping the kool aid and please do a tiny bit of research.

"Our going into Iraq did not create terrorists, it only provided an arena in which we could fight them. If they weren't busy there, they would be plotting terror all over the world. Most of you liberals have failed to notice that high profile acts have been decreasing as the Iraq war heated up."

Dear Joe they are. Yes like the planned explosion of the Saudia Terminals was very low profile LMAO. The US Government says they are growing and expanding

"The die-hards are going there to fight, and that is exactly where we want them. Our brave troops recognize this, and they are willing to do the dirty work."
\
Not true most of the military want out of Iraq yesterday

Joe try and get a little in touch with reality.

Joe Olivo
WELL SAID!!!

Hal Donohue
When I say Russians I mean just that. You think your being smart by splitting hairs and in actuality your just being smarmy. Who won? We did! And who brought that about and would not contain or appease even his own country? Ronald Reagan. You could learn something from him.

Phil Byler, Hal Donahue
Phil, you are absolutely correct, and hopefully those RINOs will get booted in the next primaries in their respective states.

As for Hal, you are living in a fantasy land when you say AQ is expanding worldwide and act as if it is our fault. This uncritical thinking by liberals is plain stupid. What exactly do you believe about Bin Laden and company after he issued his declaration of war against us? Do you think he wanted to bring down the Towers and then go home and retire in his cave? His plan was to ignite a worldwide fight by Islamist terrorists against America. It was a call to arms and he expected recruits to join up. They did not have to sign an AQ membership card, all they had to do is what the rest of these mad mullahs want, kill Americans wherever you find them.

Our going into Iraq did not create terrorists, it only provided an arena in which we could fight them. If they weren't busy there, they would be plotting terror all over the world. Most of you liberals have failed to notice that high profile acts have been decreasing as the Iraq war heated up. The die-hards are going there to fight, and that is exactly where we want them. Our brave troops recognize this, and they are willing to do the dirty work. The least you could do is to stop the negative Viet Nam type B.S., and support their effort completely. All the Harry Reids in our government are fools, and that includes Chuck Hagel. I leave it to Nebraskans to decide who will represent them, but my hope is they get rid of Hagel.

For the rest of us, collectively we need to do something totally new and unexpected if we intend to restore the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people to our national government. In this 2008 election, we cannot afford to elect another elite candidate from either party. We need to break the hold these people have on power in our capital by REMOVING THE PRESIDENCY FROM DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN HANDS! That is the best, most surefire way to start reclaiming our birthright, which the elites have stolen from us.

Please visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT,ORG and discover a way that we can assert our authority and prevent a future for our great nation and our children of more big government, less personal freedom, and greater influence of the internationalists who hate America. Check it out. What's to lose, they have already stolen our inheritance, we simply need to take it back. Thanks, Joe

terrorists
none writes: "The guys who crashed into the Twin Towers on 9-11 are DEAD. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. You would become a terrorist too if American bombs were dropped on your village and killed your family."
My, my, using that "logic" all the families of the poor souls who lost their lives in the twin towers should now be terrorists. Their family members, husbands, wives, children, grandchildren, etc., were MURDERED by terrorists. You apparently think these people were unaided by anyone and did this on their own, ("the guys are DEAD"). Honey, you need a real reality check!

Lolo
" Look at all the appeasement that took place with the Russians. Detante, Helsinki and so forth. Who got the best of those bargains? The Russians."

Actually I believe you mean the old Soviet Union instead of Russians. For your information, the Soviet Union no longer exists and we do. Who won? I would say us and the whole western world. A very good point

Hagel is toast as will be any other Rep
and several of the Dems will be for voting for amnesty - no matter if it passes or not. This whole issue is a blessing in disguise as we have finally gotten Americans on both ends of the political spectrum fed up with the current elected leaders. Just seeing the same faces and hearing them on TV is like fingernails on the blackboard. And this is also the reason that Fred Thompson will be successful in his presidential bid - he adhered to the term limits he went in under.

Lolo
"I see complaints on here from the liberals defending Chuck yet you are ticked that your own elected idiots have not marched in lock step with you."

Actually not true they are doing the best they can until we get those 60 votes and the white house....

Hagel is certainly no conservative ...
was he ever? This dangerous attempt to make both parties exactly alike in idealology must be
stopped. As a conservative Arizonan, I shall support the efforts and candidacy of men like Jon Burning ... any way I can.

liberals
I see complaints on here from the liberals defending Chuck yet you are ticked that your own elected idiots have not marched in lock step with you. They are pandering to you and appeasing terrorists and quite frankly a detriment to us all. Apparently you have learned nothing from history. Look at all the appeasement that took place with the Russians. Detante, Helsinki and so forth. Who got the best of those bargains? The Russians. Did it do any good what so ever for us? Nope. We ended up subsidizing their economy so they could move all over the world with their communist agenda. Remember Afghanistan? Nicragua? El Slavador? Peru? Don't forget Castro or Eastern Europe. Wake up before it's too late.

The Times They Are A-Changin'
We started out the spring we invaded Iraq with anyone who questioned the Bush government being labeled a terrorist, a Communist, or an anti-American. Little by little the nation has been coming to its senses. "Follow the Leader" is a game for children, not grownups.

Mountain Rose
I still wish you well LOL

I will tell you that I don't think Chuck hagel will get more than 30% of the Republican primary vote. He is toast.

What too few yet realize is that Middle America is LIVID about scamnesty, and this WILL nail pols tied to it. Sen. Juan McQuisling is dropping like a rock among Republicans because of scamnesty, not Iraq (many Republican faithful still support the lost cause in Iraq). McQuisling is LAST in polling in Nevada even though they border Az., while Fred Thompson is FIRST, partly because he is talking tough about border enforcement.

Another MM myth: it is mainly conservative republicans who oppose the scamnesty bill. Hogwash! Fully 65% of 'Crats think that closing the border and enforcement are a high priority, and a majority opposes this legislation:

Please see my post just below (8:08 a.m.) to see what you can do today (it is EASY!) to fight scamnesty and save America.

Hal Donahue - Purge the Repub Party
of INDEPENDANT voices?

PUH-LEEEEEEEEEEZ!

Mr. Schwartzenegger ran as a fairly conservative guy, at least by recent California standards. He was the one that called the Democrat(ick)s "girlie men," to the delight of conservatives.

He has done an about face after the last election.

In Marketing, they call this "Bait and Switch."

Nowdays he acts like he is the best friend of Mayor Antonio "Evita" Villa-La-Raza, getting their picture taken together at every photo-opportunity.

I suspect that this alliance is created out of a mutual love for the camera, but the sparkle in their eyes as they pat each other on the back creeps me out.

But beyond this, Arnold Schwartzenegger's connection to the left is very strong, since Teddy *urp* Kennedy is his uncle-in-law.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'll never vote for that creep again, and I am burning my copy of Terminator II.

As a resident of Illinois
I have little hope of such a change as JB would bring to Nebraska. I would like to start giving our congresscritters a new title, FORMER!

What worries me is that we
might end up with more Dems in power if we don't get off our cans long BEFORE the primaries.

People tend to not get interested until after the primaries are over.

It is essential that we inform ourselves about candidates, so that we don't run any more of these RINOs like Arnold and Hagel, and that jerk that was caught sexually harassing the pages.

It is time to STOP being mentally lazy, because it is just as important to find fabulous local candidates as it is to find a good presidential candidate.

Mountain Rose
"And speaking of turncoats named Arnold, there is the disappointing, supposedly Republican Governor of California. When are we ever going to stop being fooled by these Trojan Horses?"

I sincerely wish you well in your effort to purge the Republican Party of every independent voice...

Who is writing the press releases?
It is interesting to me that the MSM, instead of picking up on THIS story, are reporting that Chuck Hagel is not supporting George Bush on the war in Iraq.

Excuse me, but since when is this news?

Chuck Hagel has been a burr in the saddle of the Republican party for years. Why is it, that instead of reporting the REAL news, CBS and ABC are breathlessly reporting Senator Hagels turncoat status as if this is a new development.

I realize that the anchors are all vapid, young gals who wanted to be actresses, but had to settle for reading the news, which might explain the breathless reporting. But really, the news should be that the Repubs are dumping Arnold Benedicts like Hagel.

And speaking of turncoats named Arnold, there is the disappointing, supposedly Republican Governor of California. When are we ever going to stop being fooled by these Trojan Horses?

As a Nebraskan
I will tell you that I don't think Chuck hagel will get more than 30% of the Republican primary vote. He is toast.

Immigrants
I agree that Mr. Bruning should get his facts straight about Ellis Island, and his great great grandparents. He also made a statement that I am thoroughly tired of hearing regarding immigrants, that is, "We're all immigrants."

No, Jon, your are not an immigrant, you were born here, as were your parents and your great grandparents. Only your great great grandparents were immigrants. You, Jon, are a native American, because this is the land of your birth, the country of which you are a native, not, once again, not, an "immigrant."

And, anticipating some ranting, I used the term "native American" deliberately, in its accurate sense, with the word "native" indicating the country in which one is born. If you take the time to study history, you discover that even the American Indians were "immigrants" as they came to this country from Asia. (As an aside, they may not have even been the first Americans, look up Kennewick Man.) Enough of that.

To iterate, please, all politicians, stop with the "We are all immigrants" fib.
There

Jon Bruning will not win
Hagel is one of the few courageous conservatives who has both a brain and a conscience. Luger is joining him now. We could already count Warner and Lindsay Graham.

Bruning can tout the same old tired stories and lies about the Iraq war all he wants. But 2006 proved that Americans have finally awakened. The next election is not about Bush and how much candidates support him on the war. It will be about who has a plan to get our troops back home with some honor.

And how to console the tens of thousands of Americans who were maimed and the family and friends of soldiers who were killed for nothing.

Mumbling tired old stupidities like I'd rather fight "them" over there than over here wore thin years ago.

Hagel supporting scamnesty
A number of national pols, especially those with Oval Office pipe dreams, including Hagel have embraced ILLEGALS for $ and self-aggrandizement. The RINOS (Presidente Jorge, Sen. Juan McQuisling, Linseed Grahamos, Sam BROWNback) are simply willing to sell out Middle America to appease miscreant employers (who buy them) and the Reconquista ilk because they foolishly fathom that they can snag some of those votes.

The thing they miss is that 3rd generation middle class latinos who speak fluent English are VERY different from the ILLEGAL invaders, who will break easily 10:1 voting for big entitlement govt. as soon as the left and myopic RINOS can snooker us into Scamnesty.

Call your senators TODAY and tell them--
to just say no to Scamnesty...
make English the official language...
no welfare or path to citizenship for ILLEGALs... enforce EXISTING laws and they will repatriate attritively and get in line.

Up Chuck Hagel
Needs to go, I hope Nebraskans send this Benedict Arnold a packing.

Patrick dear Patrick
"This War on Terror and this War in Iraq is not just about Iraq. It is about terrorism worldwide."

Wonderful! He at least realizes that there are two wars not one.

"This is the front line in the battle against al Qaeda. This is it. It's in Iraq right now. And if we leave Iraq, al Qaeda will have won. And eventually they're going to be back here on our soil. Right now they don't have time to figure out how to get here, because they're fully engaged with us there."

This is simply wrong. Every indicator shows that Al Q is expanding and growing worldwide. Iraq is a training ground for Al Q. Just look at the Saudi arrests and interrogations of the planned oil field bombings. We are in the middle of civil wars in Iraq

"I firmly believe we're doing the right thing. It's a horrible thing to have to pay for our efforts in the lives of American soldiers, but freedom isn't free. And it takes the courage of our soldiers to keep this great country free."

Freedom is evidently VERY free if you are not in the military - just shop and run up the national debt while disarming the military

Factual Error
As a lifelong conservative, I am finding myself increasingly frustrated with the Republican Party as I watch them turn their backs on Conservative Values (and common sense)time and time again. If Mr.Bruning wishes to run against Hagel, more power to him. I can't help him with my vote, since I am not a Nebraskan...but...I can offer one peice of advice: Lose the story about your great grandparents coming to Ellis Island in 1861. Ellis Island was an Armory until 1891 and did not process immigrants until that year.

Right on Jon!
Jon supports Victory Al-Queda even if they are in Iraq and is strong on immigration. I'm not from Neb but I gave him money before he even announced and will continue to do so. Jon is right on the two most important issues of our time and Mr Hagel is wrong. Primaries are where we start to get the GOP back on track.

'FIGHTING TERRORISTS OVER THERE'
Is retarded. We actually CREATE terrorists because of our Hebrew-centric foreign policy. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. The guys who crashed into the Twin Towers on 9-11 are DEAD. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. You would become a terrorist too if American bombs were dropped on your village and killed your family

HalO you missed the point
In the article, Bruning said he would go against the president (yes, with a small p) on this immigration bill - what he meant was not zero maverick moments against the president, he meant zero maverick moments against conservative ideals. Some of these morons have forgotten that their first duty is to the country, not the president (and his donors).

What are you smoking? Your writing is completely disoriented and confused. I can only surmise that your brain is so cloudy that you should go to bed and try to recover.
