Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Hugh Hewitt is concerned that Sen. John McCain, who is my client, does not engage the new media. And believe me, when Hugh blogs, I take it seriously—he is a powerful evangelist for our medium. But he needn’t be as concerned as he is.

For example, Sen. McCain was the first prospective presidential aspirant to appear the Glenn and Helen Show, Glenn Reynolds’ popular Podcast. At the time, Hugh called the move, “The Future of Politics” and said, “Any consultant worth his or her salt will be looking for long form interviews with such professionals.”

Earlier this month while Hugh was discussing the new media with Glenn Reynolds, the subject came up again:

HH: … So those three are now going to go at it. And assess those three's positioning. McCain has Patrick Hynes, and the other two have their people. What's their positioning with the new media right now?

GR: Well, McCain has been very aggressive about confronting, or courting the new media. And indeed, he did one of our Glenn and Helen show podcasts which you aired some excerpts of, in fact. …

Of course, one can always logon to Porkbusters where Sen. McCain made his first foray into the blogging world. Or visit Ed Morrissey’s site Captain’s Quarters, which hosted a guest post from Sen. McCain on Hillary Clinton’s untenable position on North Korea. Or Power Line which hosted a guest post from Sen. McCain on the proposed troop surge.

Or one could talk to Pat Curley, who runs Brainster. Curley has endorsed John McCain for President of the United States. Hugh Hewitt had high praise for Curley in 2004 when Curley co-blogged at Kerry Haters.

There’s Steve Martin, a McCain supporter in New Hampshire who started his own blog. McCain has fans in Alabama, too. And New Jersey. There’s even an online Draft McCain movement.

Here’s what Larry Kudlow, blogging at National Review Online’s the Corner said about Sen. McCain recently:

In the midst of all the latest doubt, pessimism and arguing over our direction in Iraq, along comes John McCain, digging his heels in the sand and standing up for what is right. John McCain is fighting the tide.

The tide is defeatist.

The tide is asking us to throw our arms into the air and allow iniquity to win the day.

The tide is asking us to allow ruthless and evil totalitarians in Iran and Syria to seize victory.

The tide is asking us to blow American credibility for fifty years.

Fortunately, in the middle of all this, in the middle of James Baker's wishful thinking Iraq

Study Group fog, along comes John McCain, reminding Americans we have two choices: win or lose.

That’s called courage. That’s called principle. That’s called leadership.

Of course, this is John McCain we’re talking about here. Many conservative bloggers are very unhappy with him over a number off issues for which they disapprove of his position or style. So it’s all the more surprising when bloggers like Matt Lewis or Doug Lambert say kind things about him.

Hugh is also concerned that Sen. McCain’s campaign, should he chose to run, possesses “very little in the way to suggest it will have reach into Iowa, New Hampshire or beyond.”

I appreciate Hugh’s concern. But here is some video I shot recently of Sen. McCain with a group of Republican state senators in New Hampshire. He seems to have some “reach” here in my Granite State, wouldn’t you say? And as the Caucus Cooler blog pointed out very recently, McCain is making some significant advances in Iowa, as well.

Of course, it’s early. And Sen. McCain has a lot of work to do if he plans to be the Republican nominee for President of the United States. One could credibly argue that McCain is not, in fact, the frontrunner, as Rudy Giuliani routinely leads most polls. And Sen. McCain has a lot of relationship building to do with bloggers. Some will be unwilling to hear him out. Others will be willing to hear him out but will remain unpersuaded. And some, in time, may come around. But as both Human Events and Power Line have pointed out, we are reaching out to bloggers openly and aggressively.

MCCAIN/KENNEDY
NUFF SAID

Ditto to Virginia Patriot
For this conservative, McCain's support of scamnesty is the starting point and ending point for any further consideration of his candidacy for President. His tenuous relationship with Christian conservatives, shunning of tax cuts, and other "maverick" (aka liberal) stances I could look past given his anti-pork crusade and other conservative leanings. But again, there is his name recorded in history right next to Ted Kennedy and the bill that tried to sell out our sovereignty for cents on the dollar to undeserving 3rd world lawbreakers. Sorry Mr. McCain -- no deal!

McCamnasty - Yeah
He will not get the nomination. His ratings are falling faster than Clintons pants.

Yawn...
Like oh my God!!! McCain is like totally awwwesome... He'd make like such a good president... hehe... He has like this sweet campaign... He's like hecka cool... Okey... Seriously, does anyone not get the joke there?

Go Hillary
If I have to choose my own hangman, I will choose my true enemy rather than my "friend".
I will choose Hillary over McNasty.

Never!!!
I will never vote for McCain!! So, if McCain is the Republican nominee. Hillary will win, because I will not vote for MCCain or any ticket that McCain is on.

McCain
Mr. Hynes, you need a new client. Due to his aversion to basic American freedoms like Freedom of Speech I will not vote for him for any political job whatsoever.

Ok, So.....
then we are all agreed that anyone of average intelligence and a remotely conservative disposition can readily see that McCain is NOT conservative. He is just another unprincipled, opportunistic "it's all about me, me, me" democrat/communist masquerading as a Republican who does not deserve to get within a thousand miles of being president.

So my question, then, is- What the f**k does Townhall, who is supposed to be on our (that is, America's) side, think they are doing supporting this fraudulent imposter by advertising his exploratory committee, encouraging contributions to his campaign, posting propaganda like the above article and asking us to take it seriously, etc?

I have been a Townhall supporter and fan from the very beginning. I have regularly visited this site, read the articles, recommended the site my friends (and enemies), and sent them hundreds of dollars in donations over the past six+ years. But I've about had it with their selling out of conservative principles and pandering to leftist, commie wannabe's like McCain. Townhall seems to view its supporters in the same way that the Republican party does-that we are expendable, stupid hicks to be taken for granted, and they can spit in our faces and thumb their noses at us and our values and we will just take it and keep coming back and begging for more.

The way they are going, I’m beginning to suspect that Townhall has been co-opted by the democrats (communists), who are gradually shifting it away from conservative principles. What better way to halt the spread of conservative ideas than to clandestinely take over what had previously been the showpiece of conservative advocacy on the web, and then slowly, carefully water down the content, while continuing to sell an ever left leaning agenda as “conservative” because it is sold under the Townhall name? Will any conservative reader deny that the leftists are already thick on this website, regularly posting their specious, misleading comments to try and mitigate the spread of conservative principles (regular conservative posters know who they are just by their nicknames)?

Think I’m wrong, crazy, paranoid, “oh, that could never happen here”? Ok, good, then lets see some evidence that I’m wrong. Let me see Townhall remove that obnoxious advertisement for the McCain 2008 exploratory committee. Think about it-I tell an acquaintance, who might be “on the fence” (smart enough to sense the evil that is the democratic party but not entirely free of the CNN spell) to go check out Townhall, advocating it to him as a shining beacon of clear, conservative thought, and the first thing he sees when the site pops up is an ad supporting McCain for president?? That is just stupid, they’re shooting us in the foot.

For the above mentioned communists on this site who might come out of the woodwork to condemn me for the above comments by carrying on about how we need “diversity” and “alternative viewpoints” on Townhall, and how we should be “tolerant” of all the fine, upstanding, sincere
“conservatives” who also just happen to support a liberal like McCain for president, that such support to a non-conservative on what is supposed to be a conservative website is necessary to ensure “free speech”, and to do otherwise is “censorship” let me answer you now-Hogwash. Those of us who are conservatives frequent this site because we want to see conservative ideas advocated and conservative principles upheld, not sacrificed in the name of “intellectual diversity”. If I want intellectual diversity I can log on to moveon.org. I want to read leftist propaganda (such as advocating McCain for president) on Townhall about like I want to hear Iron Maiden or Ted Nugent start playing elevator music.

Townhall-you REALLY need to get it together and stop taking your supporters for granted. If you fancy yourself a conservative website, then start acting like it.

McCain is
a snake in the grass...dangerous for America

McCain a fraud
My deceased father (a WWII vet) advised me to not vote for McCain - that while he may have served admirably in the military, he is not a good representative of our Constitutional Republic. Low and behold, the traitor sides with the commies to have "oppression of our first amendment rights" enacted under the guise of "Campaign Finance Reform".

(vikingfuneral, it appears that TH is more committed to the Republican Party than they are to Conservatism.)

An open letter to Patrick Hynes
Dear Mr Hynes:

Since John McCain is one of your clients I would like to ask you to address a few issues.

How do justify McCain's treachery to the Republican Party (whose nomination he now seeks) on the issue of ending the filibuster for judicial nominees? Surely he knew that George W. Bush had nominate a fairly balanced slate of judges for the federal bench Surely he knew that some 40 or 50 judgeships remain unfilled. And surely he knew that only the conservative nominees were denied an up-or-down vote. How do you,as his consultant, square this with McCain's claim to be a Conservative? And how do you explain that this crucial betrayal, allegedly in the name "comity", did nothing to break the lockstep obstructionismof the Senate Democrats and not one single significant conservative measure was achieved afterwards as a result of the ensuing "comity"?

His deal-making with the obstructionist Democrats in the Senate is perceived by the conservative base as selling us out to promote his personal ambitions to become President under the misconception that his popularity with the liberal media will result in some of them giving him favorable press in a general election against Hillary or Obama (fat chance). Is there any credible reason why we should believe differently?

How do you justify McCain's support of amnesty for illegals, especially since he is supposed to be representing the people of Arizona, who are overwhelmingly opposed to it?

How do you explain away the undermining effect of McCain's very public assertion that Gitmo detainees should get speedy trials in civilian court?

Why should conservatives, who by definition oppose the restrictions on free speech and political funding in the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Act support this guy?

Finally, why have you ducked all of the above issues in this shameless attempt to con the conservative base by lauding McCain for taking what should be the default position of every American; supporting the Commander-In-Chief during time of war?

Sincerely,

wiseone

BTW - pitbull, no one ever calls you for one of those polls because you work for a living. That means you aren't at your home phone # during the day, when these polls are done. Whenever you see MSM poll results remember the people being polled were home sometime between 8am and 5pm on a weekday. You know - the Oprah crowd.

Hey viking
Good post.

Apparently the Republican Party learned NOTHING from getting pasted last November because cons stayed home.

Everywhere I go I hear and see the Party touting McCain. I'm convinced that the RNC made a deal with McCain that he would get the nomination in 2008 if he we support Bush in 2000 and 2004. Now they are determined to shove him down our throats even though we can't stand him.

I've got some even worse news for you. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC)sends out questionaires to its potential contributors. If you fill it out and send them a contribution, they will send you the results of the questionaire. The last "results" showed that 63% of those who contributed to the NRCC are infavor of Bush's guest worker plan.

McLame Touts Global Warming
McShame was just on TV touting Global Warming. I wonder if there is any liberal position (other than IRAQ) that he has not picked up?

Wiseone
If they post McShame in 08, they deserve to get beat. I'll be looking to the Libertarians in 08, although a third party split is what Hitlary is hoping for.

McCain's Nomination...
...would simply complete the process of converting the Republican party into merely the less-stridently leftist, less obviously radical, me-too, Democrat Lite wing of the single ruling Republicrat Party.

Not to mention, it would also complete the process of making all real conservatives politically homeless. Deciding between McCain v. Hillary-or-Obama would be like deciding between arsenic sprinkles and strychnine sauce on your plate of manure. Bon apetit!

McCain
I truly believe McCain was brainwashed as a POW and is working against the interests of this country.

He has damaged this country more in the last few years than any Democrat.

I would never vote for him for any office.

RINO !!
You have heard the expression "I would not vote for him(or her) for Dogcatcher"-- well there we are--if either Shrillary or McCain (the brainwashed) are on the ballot, I will not vote for them--either of them. I am praying that a true conservative with guts and grace comes up for the supposedly conservative party--the GOP-- just as I was fond of saying that the democrat party is NOT the same as when my father voted for it--and I voted for John Kennedy-- so now the Republican party has degraded into something that I neither like, nor respect. What to do; what to do ?? All I can offer is: Please help us
God--our only hope!!!!

Dogcatcher
I might be persuaded to vote for John McCain for dog catcher---there is always the possibility he might get bit.

Vote for Mc?
No way, no how at anytime.

McCain, Finegold. Nuf said.

KC

The votes he's not going to get
John's so interested in trying to be all things to all people, he forgot who we are. Millions of us will (read this carefully), Millions of us will NEVER vote for him EVER AGAIN, for ANYTHING.

This time the "where they gonna go" logic will fail. We don't vote for people who have done what he has, against the best interests of our country and it's people. I don't care what he went through in vietnam or how many medals he has. I'm reminded here about what they said of Benedict Arnold's leg after his treason. What did you think was going to happen John?

Withdraw now John and take Rudy with you, along with the party "leadership" don't lock the door and leave the keys on the desk.

If McCain is nominated, Dems WIN!
MSM is pushing McCain trying to get him the Republican nomination simply because they know he hasn't a chance in the National Election.
He can't even carry a small fraction of the Republican Base.
MSM will turn against McCain the moment it is too late to elect another Republican Candidate and we are stuck with a DUD!
Anyone here think the Dems will dump Hillary and vote for McCain?

Okay, explain it to me.
I'm not a neocon; I'm a moderate. I am well aware THAT so many conservative Republicans really loathe Senator McCain, but I've only got a vague reason why. And to be honest, the "why" doesn't seem to have a lot of substance (or at least to me it doesn't seem like it has a lot of substance).

I heard enough of Rush Limbaugh's character assassination of McCain to know that the Republican right just doesn't like the guy, but from the other end (the middle and the left) the guy seems like a normal Republican.

But that might be just because I'm not from that end of the spectrum. Maybe, in a similar vein, the neocons here don't get why so many Democrats (conservative, moderate, or leftist) despise Hillary.

So could some of you provide some concrete reasons why you dislike McCain so much? Please don't include imaginary Black babies he fathered. :)

America, regain your freedom!
Paula Jo, we think alike. I remember the old motion picture about "The Manchurian Candidate" and it sends chills down my spine. I cannot fathom any reader/voter who would vote for this clown. I respect his wartime record and admire the man who lived through it. But, something about his action is not right. Many sense it, others know it, readers and bloggers have proved it.

The shamnesty is one of the mosst aggravating issues to arise in the history of our nation. I have never been ignored by more politicians. I do not vote for people who are not solidly in back of our Constitution, Bill of Rights and those who uphold our laws, as their oaths of office require. Kennedy, Kerry, Clinton(s), Specters, McCain and too many others, have long surpassed their usefullness to America. Time for them to retire forever, with the help of the informed American voters. Now, if we could just get those voters focused on the real issues. No amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, voting out those who support this amnesty policy and vote those out who will not stay out of decisions which they are not qualified to make, converning our military stratagies. Take the muzzles off the dogs of war, and keep biting the terrorists until they cease and desist from their acts of terror. Force is what they understand and they do not understand the acts of compassion. Harden your hearts against and enemy who wishes to totally destroy you and your children and wipe you from the face of the earth. Stand up America and fight back in the face of the enemy until they have realized that they are not going to win this mattle. Keep in mind that it is they who wish to come here and take over our way of life, and not our desire and take their way of life from them. Freedom is a tough concept to understand when you have been so supporessed, that you have not even dared to dream or understand that word called FREEDOM! Take a paraphrased old battle cry of the socialists and echo back, "Voters of America, arise and throw off your chains, you have nothing to lose but your left wing liberals!"
