So grave was the crisis in western China that President Hu Jintao canceled a meeting with President Obama, broke off from the G8 summit and flew home.

By official count, 158 are dead, 1,080 injured and a thousand arrested in ethnic violence between Han Chinese and the Muslim, Turkic-speaking Uighurs of Xinjiang. That is the huge oil-rich province that borders Pakistan, Afghanistan and several Central Asian countries that seceded from the Soviet Union.

Uighur sources put the death toll much higher.

The Communist Party chief in Xinjiang has promised to execute those responsible for the killings.

In 1989, fear that what was happening in Eastern Europe might happen in Beijing produced Tiananmen Square. The flooding of Chinese troops into Xinjiang bespeaks a fear that what happened to the Soviet Union could happen to China. Unlike Mikhail Gorbachev, the Chinese, as they showed in Tibet, will wage civil war to crush secession.

Already, Beijing has struggled to ensure perpetual possession of Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Tibet -- half of the national territory -- by moving in millions of Han Chinese, swamping the indigenous peoples, as they did in Manchuria.

The larger issue here is the enduring power of ethnonationalism -- the drive of ethnic minorities, embryonic nations, to break free and create their own countries, where their faith, culture and language are predominant. The Uighurs are such a people.

Ethnonationalism caused the Balkan wars of 1912 and 1913, triggered World War I in Sarajevo, and tore apart the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires. Ethnonationalism birthed Ireland, Turkey and Israel.

Ethnonationalism in the 1990s tore apart the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, and broke up Czechoslovakia, creating two-dozen nations out of three. Last August, ethnonationalism, with an assist from the Russian Army, relieved Georgia of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Russia has its own ethnic worries in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, whose Moscow-installed president was nearly blown to pieces two weeks ago and where a Chechen convoy was ambushed last week with 10 soldiers killed.

The ethnonationalism that pulled Ireland out of the United Kingdom in 1921 is pulling Scotland out. It split the Asian subcontinent up into Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Iran, Iraq and Pakistan are all threatened.

Persians are a bare majority against the combined numbers of Azeris, Kurds, Arabs and Baluch. Each of those minorities shares a border with kinfolk -- in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

Turkey has fought for decades against Kurd ethnonationalism.

If one were to wager on new nations, Kurdistan and Baluchistan would be among the favorites. And Pashtun in Pakistan outnumber Pashtun in Afghanistan, though in the latter they are the majority.

In Africa, the savage attacks on the Kikiyu by Luo manifest a resurgent tribalism, as did the horrors of Rwanda, where Tutsi in the hundreds of thousands were massacred by Hutu.

President Clinton may have apologized to the Africans for not sending troops to stop the genocide in Rwanda, but if the America of Obama is into interventionism to protect human rights, Africa in the 21st century should provide us plenty of opportunity.

Evo Morales in Bolivia, Ollanta Humala in Peru and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez are stoking the embers, goading the Indian populations, the indigenous peoples, to take back what the white man took 500 years ago. They have met with no small success.

The contrast between insouciant America and serious China today is instructive. China is protectionist; America free trade. China is nationalist; America globalist. China's economy is export-driven; America's base is consumption. China saves; America spends. China uses its foreign exchange to lock up overseas resources; America uses foreign aid for humanitarian assistance to failed states. Behaving like ruthlessly purposeful 19th-century Americans, China grows as America shrinks.

Where Beijing floods its borderlands with Han to reduce indigenous populations to minorities, and stifles religious, ethnic and linguistic diversity, America, declaring, "Diversity is our strength!" invites the whole world to come to America and swamp her own native-born.

Observing the lightning breakup of the Soviet Union, the Chinese take ethnonationalism with deadly seriousness. American's elite regard it an irrelevancy, an obsession only of the politically retarded.

After all, they tell us, we were never blood-and-soil people, always a propositional nation, a nation of ideas. Our belief in democracy, diversity, and equality define us and make us different from all other nations.

Indeed, we now happily predict the year, 2042, when Americans of European ancestry become a minority in a country whose Founding Fathers declared it set aside for "ourselves and our posterity."

Without the assent of her people, America is being converted from a Christian country, nine in 10 of whose people traced their roots to Europe as late as the time of JFK, into a multiracial, multiethnic, multilingual, multicultural Tower of Babel not seen since the late Roman Empire.

The city farthest along the path is Los Angeles, famous worldwide for the number, variety, and size of its ethnic and racial street gangs.

Not to worry. It can't happen here.

Mr. Buchanan:

What a masterfully done column, one whose message could not be more timely. The predicted inflection point of 2042, mentioned in your article, will find me aged 81. However, that day could come much sooner, if Obama and company are successful in getting amnesty for the 30 million illegal aliens already living here. We must get the disasterous laws changed, that grant citizenship to any child born on U.S. soil, regardless of the status of the parents.

The late political scientist/historian Samuel Huntington, in his book "Who are We?," warned of the dangers of diversity for its own sake, of dilution of the core national identity and value system of the Founding Fathers. What he feared has come to pass; we are witnessing the Balkanization of America, before our very eyes.

My father, a WWII veteran, and his father before him, a WWI veteran, are both deceased now. I'm glad neither man is alive to see what is coming to pass.

Ethnonationalism
Plagued as America is, the ethos is too strong to be pulled apart thus. I'm no apostle of all the 'diversity' crap, but second-generations are firmly Americans -- even the gangsta punks -- and when push comes to shove, they'll vote or fight, whichever it takes, to keep New Mexico new.

Woodrow Wilson, an avowed racist, sent ~150,000 American were imprisoned for silly things like producing a movie that depicted the British Army in a bad light. He also sent suffagettes and homosexuals to mental institutions for "fixing".

Franklin Delano Roosevelt sent 110,000 Japanese nationals and Japanese Americans to housing facilities called "War Relocation Camps".

And, "When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

Barack Obama and Joe Biden will call on Americans from every walk of life to serve. Obama and Biden will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps and will create new service organizations to meet the nation's challenges head on:

A Classroom Corps to help underserved schools.

A Health Corps to serve in the nation's clinics and hospitals.

A Clean Energy Corps to achieve the goal of energy independence.

Au Contraire, Pat - II
A Veterans Corps to support the Americans, who serve by standing in harm's way.

Both also call on citizens of all ages to serve. They'll set a goal that all middle school and high school students engage in 50 hours of community service a year, and develop a plan for all college students who engage in 100 hours of community service to receive a fully-refundable tax credit of $4,000 for their education.

Both will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Further, he wants an American "peace corps" that is every bit as strong and well-funded as is the US military.

As a contrarian of the US govt., I do not take lightly the unConstitutional actions of Obama, but I did the same for Clinton and GWB.

Off to the ovens, with my Constitutional star, I will go, along with my half-Jewish children.

Pat Buchanan makes a good case that the world has finally progressed to where the North American Indians were, in 1600 A.D.; or where the Hebrews and Canaanites were, in (whenever that was) B.C.

Diversity Kills
Tribalism always seems to trump every thing. The Greek Americans reject outsiders as do the Jewish Americans. Some ethnic minorities refused to meld into the famous melting pot of America.

Liberal ideology supports this apartness, celebrating diversity. But diversity often ultimately leads to conflicts like those in the Balkans, China, Africa, and the Middle East.

If you come to America you should be willing to shed your heritage, learn English, and become truly American. We don't need the ethnic, religious, and racial conflicts of the old world. Even the liberals, to their credit, recognize that religions divide populations but mosques have been built all over 21st Century America and the poison is here. How long before we emulate the Balkans' insane fragmentation?

Ethnonationalism in America?
I would argue that there are two America's Pat, growing increasingly irreconcilable. One group desires limited government, sound monetary policy, self-dependence, personal liberty and the opportunity to achieve the American Dream, despite class, race or status.

The other wants a strong Federal Government that nourishes them from cradle to grave and "gives" them a blueprint for life.

Doesn't seem too far off the mark to suggest that eventually these two philosophies will clash, and bloody it will be.

Exactly. It took nearly 30 years from the publication of William Lloyd Garrison's first issue of "The Liberator" until the raid on Harper's Ferry, but I don't think the civil war that results from the hatred between left and right needs as long to ripen this time.

Eventually there will be an American heartland dominated by traditionalists and a polyglot socialist America made up of New England, the Old Northwest, and the Atlantic and Pacific coastal regions inland to about 50 miles.

I suspect the blood will flow not as a national civil war but as countless border skirmishes in the mode of the partition of Pakistan and India.

Eventually the liberal zones will produce intellectual property the heartland will consume and we will sell them food and energy. Their class stratification will be much greater as there will be a ruling class of very wealthy entrepreneurs and innovators supporting a massive diverse population of social parasites.

Heartland America will be more solidly middle class and certainly far less "diverse." Citizens of the two Americas can apply for visas and visit one another's garden spots, and the borders between the two nations will be rock solid along the lines of those that divided East and West Germany.

Oh, one more thing. Liberal America will be run by an Emperor, a blood descendant of Barack I, and Heartland America will still be a democracy.

I have nothing, nothing at all, in common with people who perennially vote in Barney Fwank, Boxer, Waxman, Kennedy, Kerry, et such, to represent them, and subsequently, to negatively affect my life.

Sounds like a great idea to me, but can't we at least have some of the beachfront property? Seriously, though, down the road, the socialist regime collapses under its own rotten weight, and Americans will once again own all of America. Refugees from the former Socialist States of America will need to apply for citizenship in the new America and demonstrate their new zeal for freedom and republican democracy. It would make a great movie.

What is Buchanan recommending?
That we don't allow immigration? What we should be worried about is losing our government that holds the individual citizen as the highest value, instead of tribes or groups. There's nothing wrong with other cultures unless they want special favors for their "tribe" or they want to use the force of government for their purposes against individuals.

The problem with Buchanan's "ethnonationalism" examples, is that the groups moving in have control of the government and write/enforce the laws to favor their group at the expense of the others. No wonder there are conflicts.

Immigration isn't the problem, government force to favor certain people over others is.

After today, big banks and other big institutions plan to stop accepting IOUs issued by the State of California.

To close their budget gap California is considering ending services to their 2.7 million illegal residents, which state officials estimate would save between $4 billion and $6 billion in costs.

Our Achilles' Heel
The way to defeat we Americans is to get us in in a classroom with a teacher and a book.

Once you've done that, you're home free -- convincing us that manure on a stick is a fudgesicle.

Multi-culturalism, multi-ethnicity and the rest, is hilariously ridiculous. But have someone write that garbage in a book, have a teacher teach it in a classroom and we'll be out and about singing its praises -- feeling so virtuous for doing so!

We're a nation of idiots and we're allowing the rest of the world to siphon-off our prosperity. And while their laughing behind our backs, we're feeling damn proud of ourselves for allowing them to do it!


"Native born"???
That's rich. Illegal immigrants come here and have children; those children are then "native born." Legal immigrants have come here for two centuries; the children they had here are "native born." What about the "Native Americans"? Were they "native born"? How far back? Does crossing the Bering Strait disqualify them?

Our problem isn't the influx of people from other nations, it is:

(1) allowing people to come here ILLEGALLY, and then throwing benefits at them that THEY cannot pay for, and WE can no longer afford, and

(2) abandoning what has worked in the past - assimilation. If you immigrate here, you become an AMERICAN, and subscribe to the belief system upon which this country was founded, including freedom, civil liberties, and individual responsibility. Sending the message that we will accept all kinds of "multicultural" nonsense in the name of "tolerance" IS a prescription for violence.

Freedom to do good

The people have demanded the Government enforce the law, and the government will not enforce the law.

So how is that the fault of the people?

Our voice here in the South Western States are not being listened to.
We have demanded the Government stop this crime wave from Mexico and we are ignored.

Immigration is a problem when the immigration is too much for the society they enter.

What is happening is waves of immigration legal and illegal from many different third world cultures and they are not expected to learn anything about the Principles of being an American.

The most basic stuff like the Bill of Rights is not expected for them to learn and swear allegiance to as had been done in the past.

Read the Immigrants Oath that was required in times past when Americans still owned their own country and it was not run by global citizens as we have today.

Why?
It may not be until 2042 (which in the scope of things is not that far off) that whites will become a minority in their own country, but among those being born today they are already a minority. In 2042 and in the years leading up to that time we will be a country comprised of a lot of older white people and younger multi-ethnic people from culturally alien and disparate backgrounds.

There will be tremendous cultural, societal, and economic implications from this race/age imbalance. Will the younger racially mixed working people want to continue to pay into programs such as social security and medicare that goes to a far whiter and richer demographic? This is but one consideration of the potential conflicts that will arise from our insane immigration policies of the last 40 years. We already know the disastrous implications for Conservatism that our rebalancing of America forbodes in the future.

The question that has to be asked, is "Why". Why, was this necessary? What did diversity bring to this country that was already the greatest country in the world? Other than perhaps some better restaruants and cuisine I just don't see it anywhere.

Its suborning the intent of the law on purpose to overthrow the law.

Its easily proven the 14th Amendment was NEVER interpreted to mean illegal entry abolishes the laws governing citizenship.

The 14th Amendment was passed in 1868 and Kansas was admitted into the Union January 29, 1861.

American Indians who were born in the State of Kansas after 1861 WERE NOT RECOGNIZED AS US Citizens under the 14th Amendment.

They were not subject to the laws of the United States, and therefore were not citizens.

By the very act of illegal immigration shows the illegals ARE NOT SUBJECT THE THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES either.

And CANNOT be considered Citizens under the 14th Amendment.
Which says clearly:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside"...

Take a look at any Third World country and you will see the U.S. a few years down the line. It is no accident that it is true. It is by design.

In my county,minorities are spitting out babies every nine months. You see them every day. One in their arms,one in a stroller and another on the way.No husband ,though.

They are dripping in gold jewelry and have no job,but live better than most older folks of any ethnicity. It is sad but true. We are fading fast.

I agree with your statement but the problem unfortunately is much bigger than just enforcement of our laws. Legal immigration is just as big a problem, if not bigger, than the illegal version. Why do we continue to allow in over 1 million legal immigrants every year -- primarily with skills, backgrounds, education, and cultures so alien to our own.

Think about it, our current legal immigration policy was designed by the likes of Ted Kennedy back in the 1960's. Has he ever done anything right? I sure can't think of anything. Why would his legal immigration design (Democrat Voters Importation Scheme) be any different?

Yes, we clearly have an enforcement problem, but the issue is much bigger than that. Why are we still in the human importation game with over 300 million people, 10% unemployment, and a social welfare state? It doesn't make sense.

Perhaps I could have been more clear. As a collective, it is exactly the people's fault. Who voted the crooks in?

I'll agree that the government is guilty, they love it, but the land of fruits and nuts keep votin for em.

Rowly and Others
I think that Buchanan's article is a well reasoned history lesson that rebuts a commonly held belief amongst many people (including some Conservatives) that somehow with greater diversity will come a lessening of ethnic tensions -- that somehow when everybody is a minority then everything will be and will be seen as equal. Pat reminds us of the dangers of diversity and points out that diversity creates greater potential for conflict and it has throughout mankind's history.

We'd like to think that we are all above such thinking, but the reality of mankind is not really changed. When there are problems and difficulties things often break down according to race and ethnicity. If you live in an area of large powerful blocks of competing cultures, religions, and ideas then the potential for conflict is even greater. Our modern American society that encourages seperatism rather than assimilation makes this potential for conflict even greater in a country growing ever more diverse. There are many challenges and changes that our growing diversity will bring -- some relatively benign to some outright deadly -- that have never been honestly accessed in our immigration policy.

Some people think that despite the record of history there is something unique about the American experience that would throw history upside down in this particular nuance of human nature. I disagree and Bucahan's ironic title for this article, "It Can't Happen Here" is brilliant in dissecting the dangers of growing diversity and the attitude that it will somehow ease racial tensions.

breaking up of America?
I agree with stopping ILLEGAL Immigration, but am not ready to let extremists blow up the Statue of Liberty and turn the light out just yet.

A few big differences between places with ethnonationalism that Pat describes and US immigration.

The biggest difference is that in every place PAT talked about the trouble is always from a group that is resident in a country with hundred year old ties and not immigrants.

Example Muslims in Serbia of Albanian heritage that have lived in the Kosovo province for about 600 plus years want to break away or join Albania. This caused the problems in Kosovo, NOT a wave of immigration.

Unless we are worried about New mexico wanting to join Old Mexico not because of RECENT immigrants but because of people that have been here since the 1840s or Oklahoma wanting to to go back to Indian control we don't have the ethnonational climate that Pat is talking about world wide.

I think we need to stop ILLEGAL immigration from a point of Security and Economy not social policy.

80 percent of Americans want it stopped.

I take that as the people are being ignored and the Government is not listening.

... wrote a short story after WWII which I read in school as a child. Can't recall the title. In it, the human race winnows itself down, finally, to just two groups -- the freckled & the non-freckled. And the last freckled woman poisons the last non-freckled man, who then kills her when she's asleep -- or something like that. And the world is again at peace.

Even if we weren't dealing with government sanctioned 'diversity,' you gotta ask yourself if those freckled characters on the other side of town might start looking pretty un-American at some point. Myself, I have a real problem with Texans and New Yorkers!

Now, Obama said, South Korea is industrialized and relatively wealthy while Kenya, as well as much of Africa, is still struggling economically.

This is the mindset of Obama & Co. Take from the U.S. and give to the poorer countries. Soon,we will be in the same boat with them....poor.

I see huge high-rise office buildings once teeming with business...shuttered and dark soon to be vandalized and destroyed.

The 'powers that be' decades ago decided we did not need jobs,so they were sent to poorer countries. NAFTA was not signed to help us .It was to help foreign countries. We are the poorer for it.

Intolerance
I think this article sounds like it voices religious and racial intolerance. I've heard a lot of arguments by conservatives using the Founding Fathers as justification, but this is a bit much.

Many of the Founding Fathers were racists. They believed in slavery, and didn't believe that Native American had any rights. They were like the citizens of ancient Athens who believed that only certain people who lived there deserved citizenship. In fact, most people in Athens were slaves.

Thank goodness we have come along way since ancient Athens, and a long way in our legislation since the Founding Fathers—as a measure of our national attitude. But there will always be intolerant people in our midst—usually represented by the radical, fundamentalist (but not necessarily protestant) Christian tradition that Buchanan extols.

I find it disheartening to read so many of the comments in agreement with the article. But that's nature of a democracy—freedom of thought and speech. Otherwise, we might live in a Hitlerian dictatorship, where speech, religion, race, and other activities are severely regulated. But, there were some people who liked that too.

The immigration issue has never been voted on by the people.

It needs to be on the ballot in every State and then we will know what the people want.

The numbers say it all. When one talks about "minorities" and "majorities," they're really just talking about raw numbers and ratios. And it's just common sense and elemental math that when an immigrant population with a much higher fertility rate moves in, the ratios will change dramatically and quickly.

From the European and Judeo-Christian perspective, we are in the middle of a demographic implosion. We are not on a roller-coaster change of culture, but a downward spiral. Yes, the perennially angry Pat Buchannan is correct about the threat of ethnonationalism, as well as the steady increase in the diversity of the US, which I am sure makes his older Irish male demography bristle at the loss of its initial majority status.

But this irreversible trend is the more than simply the march of life. What is more true and still driving the diversity numbers in the US is that our system of democracy, justice, freedom and opportunity means America is still the best place in which to immigrate. Well, that is until our borders are closed.

So, we still get the world’s best and brightest, whose acclamation into American society and its workforce inevitable raises the averages all across the board. Yes, some dreck comes along at the same time, but that’s the price of admitting the cream of the crop.
No one is immigrating to China, Russia, the Middle East (excepting Israel), Africa or most of South America. And for good reason.

Ethnonationalism is what you get when the going gets tough and the tough can’t get out.

Unfortunately your argument falls apart because you neglect a very important point - a point I have heard echoed by ALL of my friends from Europe. People immigrate to the West also because of the HANDOUTS. You speak as if closing the border would just make America stagnate. On the contrary, most that favor closing the border also favor making legal immigration a more efficient, streamlined process. The only reason anyone cares at all about immigration is due to the welfare state. No one wants their hard earned money going to a Mexican family that defies the law, and doesn't have to lift a finger to have a fairly decent life in America [compared to Mexico].

Really, it's a dream for politicians - they get to increase the number of the dependent class, but do not have to pass any laws to do so. They simply have to play defense, and stand back and watch it happen.

Concerning immigration, it should serve the purpose of strengthening the society receiving the influx, or contributing to it's prosperity. Immigration should not be just "hey we have a nice thing going here, let's share" but "how can we improve our lot?". Government's first concern is to be the people that have entrusted it to look out for their concerns, not the concerns of other people. This is why we delegate authority, our authority is placed temporarily in the hands of others that are chosen from our midst, so that they can protect life, liberty and property/fruit of labor AND engage in acts that are MUTUALLY beneficial such as building roads, treaties, commerce. When it becomes the need of others that are considered then the trust has been broken, and government perverted.
Concerning the type of immigrant being allowed, of course we need to pick and choose. This country and it's prosperity did not happen by accident, and to continue that prosperity those who think along the same lines, who have common experiences, or background are necessary to preserve that. How else will the truths of natural rights, the purpose of government be continued to be cherished and upheld. If people are allowed in to whom such thinking is foreign then all too obviously there will be a drifting away from the foundations upon which our strength and prosperity were built on. I'm late on this one, but have to add that as one of many in this area that are totally against illegal immingration, I am seeing more and more so-called neutral citizens finally rallying against these illegals. Many reasons, but the main one now is the economy, and some of these apologists of the past are now realizing that these illegals are receiving more benefits at the legals expense that was once realized while many legals are struggling to survive.
Personally I believe that we will see a Balkanization type rebellion before we are "able" to elect people with a spine to do anything to run these illegals and their anchor parasites out. I am a Tancredo, Sheriff Joe, Lou Dobbs, Judge Andrew Napolitano, and Beck fan, just to name a few.

I then bring her over to America and we have been married for over 22 years. THAT is LEGAL immigration.

If she had come over on her visitor visa and STAYED in America without being married or without applying for a permanent green card that would be illegal immigration.

A person sneaking across the southern (or less frequently) the Northern border without documentation and a right to be here is an illegal immigrant also.

Are there really a lot of American Jews, greeks and Italians that don't speak english? Maybe in 1905 those right off the boat didn't but their children all learned English and adopted the American way of life. While there are still Italian neighborhoods in big northeast cities the culture there is not really all that different then the rest of the city.

You want to see a culture that refuses to melt or interact look at the AMISH and to a lesser extent the mennonites in PA. of course they are not exactly recent "immigrant" communities nor are they a threat.

The problem is largely in the illegal (and to a esser extent legal) Hispanic community where English is not taught to the children and the American dream is not shared.

In Northeast Philadelphia there is a large recent Russian immigrant population. However the kids there learn English and act like any other immigrants assimiliating in to American society from what I saw on my visits.

Patriot, you are coming across as unbelievably stupid, no offense. A scholarly book exploring theoretical possibilities is not a self-help book that gives advice about what people should do. Yes, if the world should become dangerously overpopulated it is theoretically possible that strict measures might be taken to control population. Guess what, they already have been---overpopulated China has had a "one child" policy for years. That doesn't mean that anyone is proposing those measures in this country, where we have very different values. Patriot, the first thing they teach you in social policy courses is that no society will accept a law that runs counter to its values.

If you eagerly seize on any extremist rumor and spread it, people will not see you as a thoughtful person---they will see you as a screwball. Rather than react to some wild story about what MIGHT happen, look to see what actually has happened. Contrary to what I've read on townhall, Obama is not forcing doctors at gunpoint to perform abortions. He is protecting the right of American women to have abortions if they so choose, that being a perfectly legal thing for them to do under exising law. There's a difference. Try real hard and see if you can apply common sense. You are inventing a boogey man so you can be scared. What's the point?

This was posted by Rep. Steve Davis (R) and it surely demostrates that there are people who love this land and appreciate our soldiers.

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009.A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.
