Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

At the request of the White House, Georgetown University covered up all the symbols in Gaston Hall, before the Great Man spoke, including IHS, the millennia-old monogram for the name of Jesus Christ.

Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, had adopted the monogram in his seal and it became an emblem of the Jesuit order.

When it comes to rendering unto Caesar, Georgetown is not going to be outshone by Notre Dame, which stole a march by offering the nation's avatar of abortion a doctorate of laws degree, honoris causa.

Actually, it is regrettable the IHS in Gaston Hall was not covered up in shame the first week of Lent. For that week Georgetown's feminist and homosexual clubs, such as GU Pride, put on a Gomorrah festival about alternative lifestyles called "Sex Positive Week."

Monday, according to The Newman Club, featured a speaker for Black Rose, which "provides a forum for many different expressions of power in love and play. This can include dominance & submission, bondage and discipline, fetishism, cross-dressing, to name a few."

Ash Wednesday's talk was "Torn About Porn," advertised as a "discussion about arguably alternative forms of pornography that are not supposed to be exploitative, but rather radical and empowering."

Saturday's talk was by a pornographic film director and was titled "Relationships Beyond Monogamy."

At Loyola of Chicago that week, the Student Diversity and Cultural Affairs Office presented "Brother to Brother," a film the Newman Society reports, about "a homosexual African-American who is transported in time to cavort with the allegedly homosexual Langston Hughes."

The movie is said to be part of "a semester-long 'Color of Queer Film Series,' sponsored by the university."

At Catholic Seattle University, that first week of Lent was "Transgender Awareness Week," featuring a "session on allegedly transgender Bible heroes and heroines and 'Criss-Cross Day' where students are encouraged to 'come dressed for the day in your best gender-bending outfit."

This is surely anecdotal evidence to confirm Newsweek in the conclusion reached in its cover story of Holy Week, "The End of Christian America."

Indeed, not only are many once-Catholic colleges and universities now wandering in what Pope Benedict XVI calls a "desert of godlessness," Catholic belief and practice are not remotely what they were before Vatican II. Where three-fourth of Catholics attended mass weekly in the 1950s, today it is one-fourth. A third of all Catholics raised in the Faith have fallen away.

One in ten American adults is a lapsed Catholic. Catholicism's quarter of the population is maintained only by mass immigration and, secondarily, by conversions.

Self-identified Christians in the United States have fallen from 86 percent of the population in 1990 to 76 percent today. Those who say they have no religion have doubled as a share of the nation from 8 to 16 percent. Where 69 percent of Americans said we are a Christian country in 1990, only 62 percent say that today.

America is being systematically de-Christianized and secularized.

For the social, moral and cultural revolution of the 1960s, rooted in non- and anti-Christian beliefs and values, has captured the culture, and converted many of the young. Among Americans 18 to 29, a fourth profess to be atheist, agnostic, or of no religious faith.

The figure is surely higher among the college young.

Second reason for the triumph of secularism is that it long ago captured the Supreme Court. Since the Everson decision of 1947, justices have expunged Christianity and all its books and symbols from the public square and public schools.

Voluntary prayer, the Ten Commandments, Bible reading, Christmas plays and carols, Nativity scenes, Easter vacation, before-game prayers, benedictions at graduations -- all have been ordered terminated by unelected judges -- against the will of the majority.

Abortion on demand, too, was imposed by judicial fiat.

Thus, as America ceases to be a Christian country, it is ceasing to be a democratic one.

Consider. In every referendum in 16 states, where homosexual marriage has been on the ballot, majorities ranging from 52 to 86 percent have voted to outlaw it as an absurdity and an abomination.

Yet, in Massachusetts, California and Iowa, unelected judges have imposed it, as they will in other states, regardless of what the people want or how the people vote. For secularism has become the established religion of the American state and judges are the high priests of the new order.

Yet, one wonders if they know what lies at the end of the road upon which they have set the nation.

For five decades, Americans resisted Godless Communism. If they come to realize they did so to save Godless Capitalism, or Godless Socialism, what happens to loyalty and love of country?

To love one's country, said Edmund Burke, one's country ought to be lovely. If this is not God's country anymore, whose country is it?

There is a reason Academia is what it is
Certain kinds of people decide they want to hang around budding adults the remainder of their working life. Maybe they like young girls, or young boys or radical freedom or they are just kinky.

Now that is not to demean the serious ones who are looking for security and have noble thoughts, however like Psycharists who majored because they felt sometning was amiss with their own minds, these envelope pushers and immoral justifiers continue to embolden themselves and thrive upon a soup of mental viral worms and putrid maggotry of a regurgitating thought process.

Give it up to them. I had a hard time finishing your article as the facts are too much to bear.

America's Decline
Protestant churches surrendered a long time ago to the atheistic, homosexual loving, baby-killing ethos that is poisoning America's traditional culture. But when the center of the line, Catholicism, begins to crumble we are truly headed for barbarism and the collapse of a moral, life-enhancing civilization.

Traditional America is crumbling before our eyes. It's time some country and western singer wrote a song about the demise of a great and proud country. The renewal must come from the heartland and maybe the Tea Parties are the beginning of America returning to its roots.

But I fear only a great catastrophe will change the path we are taking. Unlike First Lady Michelle Obama I'm not proud of my country any more.

A Fearful Leadership
The leadership of the Catholic church is complicit in all these abominations.

If the insistence of the oBUMa administration on removing the IHS symbol from the Georgetown University venue before the Mountebank of the White House spoke there, was not, in and of itself, sufficient to cause Catholic leaders to protest in absolute, God-inspired outrage, I don't know what act would cause them to do so.

The country has lost its way and the Catholic church along with it. Who would ever have thought such evil would inhabit the White House?

Well, Pat,
if the folks of the West had not obfuscated the origens of justice, ethics and virture, you would not have this problem.

Period.

Where are the bishops?
Why is it that a layman like Pat has to spell out this self-inflicted destruction of the Catholic Church?

Only 29 bishops of 365 have spoken out on the ND fiasco.

They "Accidently" sent $15 million of the Bishops collection to ACORN to help elect a aggressively pro-infanticide president.

Catechesis under their watch, for decades has been a moral travesty by anti-Roman liberals in the American Church.

Pope Paul was forced to say that , "The smoke of Satan has entered the tabernacle."

Dissidents and radical feminists have grabbed control of many of the once Catholic institutions as they planned.

In my diocese, a priest is sent around for retreats preaching that "we're all going to heaven" and the hierachy is "over there" as he presents in its place the radical feminist model of a church as authentic - letters to the bishop complaining aren't answered.

It brings to mind the the quote: "not all who say Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom"

Where is the POPE?????
Recall these 'priests' to Rome and defrock them....
The very name of Jesus is uttered at our Mass, it is uttered in times of distress...disease and times of trouble....it is now denegrated by not only a Muslim sympathiser but our own people who are supposed to keep scared the very name of the Person we owe our salvation to.
DEFROCK AND DEROBE....nothing less....
E-mail the Vatican.....!

Thank you Pat
for these observations and facts. I too am outraged over Notre Dame and now Georgetown. All universities, Catholic and public, have become cesspools of PC liberalism.

I agree with Sandy - where is the Pope on this? Why the silence?

Fortunately we have a great Bishop in Phoenix (Olmsted) and we have seen many converts filling the pews here.

All Catholics must be active and be counted. Please contact your local bishops.

Five Stars
Couldn't find any of Pat's obligatory Jew-hating in the piece so I'm giving him 5 stars.

The Issue is Boundaries
Those who practice truth, try to live it or even teach it--we must be firm in our personal boundaries. For starters, if I am a woman, I do not allow a strange man to touch me. In Rome, of all places, this situation was out of control when I was there. Today, in Afghanistan, human rights remains a joke in spite of all our billions and human lives. I mean, middle-aged men "marrying" girls of eight or nine? Call me an "ethnocentrist," but I DRAW THE LINE.

Catholicism lite
We have many in the Church who confuse socialism with Catholicism and it needs to be confronted where found.

And, as George Weigel writes, a democracy that cannot defend its "truths" is not a democracy anymore. If there is no moral authority, or truth behind our beliefs to defend, then we've lost our democracy.

Unfortunately, many have forgotten the Declaration of Independence and deny the Christian principles that formed it. That a "Creator" endowed our rights, not man. If we rely on a secularized notion that we humans just all agree on certain rights, then we leave our selves open to despotism.

On the nail
I can remember hearing at a 1996 retreat that democracy only is workable when backed by Christian principles. Initially surprised at the then 68-years-old speaker's assertion, I did some analysis, specifically of India (known as "world's largest democracy"--and also the nation where both I and the aforementioned speaker, now 81, were born) and saw that India is only nominally a democracy--in the name of "secularism", it gave special rights to many groups and undermined the democratic foundation it inherited from British rule.

America has copied/repeated many of India's errors, starting with "affirmative action"

Good comments Pat!
Especially the last three paragraphs should be a wake up call. If the people's hearts and goodwill are lost there is nothing left but anarchy.

Dear Fellow Americans ....
A few questions ....
1) from whom does the Church recieve the largest portion of its funding?
2) Would the Lord Obama ask the same of a Mosque or of our Jewish brethern who are for some strange reason big time funders of the DNC?
3) Could the Lord Obama have elected to present himself elsewhere?
4) Is this an in your face placing of the Imperial Eagle in the Temple?
5) Do you think that every knee is bending to Ceaser including the hierarchy of the church?
6) While not being a believer of the theological perspectives of the Jehovah's Witness; is it possible that Holy Mother Church is assuming the posture of the Harlot of Babylon?

Any intelligent answers?

Another Question ...
The Church, the Seat of Peter. Is this an example of Peter's denial of the Christ?

Sandy & Don
One of the "reforms" of the Vatican II Council was an outright effort to free individal Bishops of the tight reign of the Vatican. Yes, the Pope appoints and ordains all Bishops. But once ordained, the Bishop has a huge amount of freedom to serve his diocese as he sees fit. But, the otherside of the coin is that the Bishop cannot blame the Vatican when the policies (or mistakes) he made come back to bite him. Both the current Pope and John Paul II are/were very sensitive to the freedom of bishops. Take the priest scandals, and the problem of the recruitment and ordination of homosexuals. The Vatican pretty much said, "You made your bed(s); now you must sleep in it."

I do agree that the Arch-Bishop of DC (Bishop Wuerhl) should have made a comment concerning Georgetown. But Wuerhl is a solid Democrat, and besides, he can always point out that the Jesuits run Georgetown.

As a group, our Bishops have much to answer for. Pray for them.

Makes you sound redundant...

Mr. Buchanan
You no doubt will appreciate this sentiment by Patrick Henry:

"It is when people forget God that tyrants forge their chains."

Just A Guess
This has never been god's country especially if you are an American Indian. I am confused by the question asking "If it is not god's country then whose is it?" The answer is fairly simple. It belongs to whomever bought it. Isn't that what free enterprise is all about? The whole idea that our leaders are not divine was a radical departure from how most countries were governed when our country was born. If our country belongs to god then it won't be long until someone in DC claims to represent him (a few already have).

Protestant churches surrendered a long time ago to the atheistic, homosexual loving, baby-killing ethos that is poisoning America's traditional culture.

You might want to be a bit more specific on which Protestant churches you're referring to. The mainstream Protestants (the liberal and, sadly administrative arms of the Episcopalian, Methodist and Lutheran denoms) have surrendered (though they each have their conservative arm that's mostly out there by itself) and that is very sad.

However, most evangelical denoms have been fighting the good fight against moral degradation. For example, you can attend a Southern Baptist church as a practicing homosexual, but it is a rare one that will admit such to membership and I know two churches who have fired pastors who turned out to be closet homosexuals. We're all about offering the gospel to sinners, but we resist allowing practicing sinners to infect our ranks. Unfortunately, some of the "mainstream" Protestants and, hate to tell you, some Catholic congregations, have surrendered that Constitutional right of freedom of assembly and the moral duty of discernment.

Why did Obama want Cross Hidden?
Perhaps BOs reason for hiding Jesus' cross was that
He found out Rahm Emanuel was Jewish OR
Obama is a mole Muslim OR
Obama is a vampire OR
Obama was so angry that the Catholics opposed him because of his abortion position that he flexed his "muscles" and demanded it - much like Michael Jackson’s hotel demands for Bowls of gummy candieS

I'm 1/8 Wyndake (Wyandote in the US) Indian. My ancestor who chose to assimilate rather than face subjugation became a trading post owner (this was the 1840s), Methodist minister and abolitionist. It's often best not to make generalization like "this was never God's country if you're an American Indian." I doubt Joseph and his wife were alone in their devout Christianity -- at least he indicated they were not in his diaries which have been passed down through the family.

Taking Founders Out of Context
The Founders were a mixed lot of free-thinkers, but many of them were devout Christians who felt the democracy couldn't work without a solid moral base, which they felt was found in the Bible and a relationship with Jesus. Often people will "proof text" a Founder's sentiments by taking one or two lines from something they wrote to "prove" that the founders were either for or against religion. Most were for, a few were against, and they all expressed opinions, some of which can be used to "prove" that they didn't want religion touching public life and some of which can be used to "prove" that they did. Take anything out of context and you can make it say anything you want.

By and large, if you read the founders in their entirety, you find that they didn't want any one denomination to dominate public life, but they were all for religiously-based morals and public expressions of faith, so long as everyone was civil and allowed others the same opportunities.

Let Me See Your Eyes
aurorawatcher - I am not sure I understand your argument. I am sure you did not understand mine. The vast majority who lived in this country and who settled this country were not Christians. There was an explosion of new religions in the 1830s when the new, radical Methodists came into being and began spreading the word through tent revivals. But I was referring to the time when this country was first being settled during the 16th and 17 century.

Religion and our Liberties
John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

As Buchanan points out, the less religious and thus less moral we become, the more we are ruled by an oligarchy and the less we are governed by our morals.

You will learn not to argue against 'aurorawatcher.' You are misinformed. You illustrate that 'a little education is a dangerous thing.' Was there a big Christian upspurt in the 1830's as you assert? Yes, what the historians call the 2nd Great Awakening. The first was in the 1730's with Jonathan Edwards et al. does that mean that those who didn't participate in those awakenings were not Christian? No. Of course, from the time of the Pilgrims and especially the Puritans, and Anglicans in VA, this was a Christian country. If people only had one book on their shelves, what do you think it was--the Qu'ran, or John Locke's Two Treatises? No; it was the Authorized (King James) Bible; that's how most learned to read. Were all members of a local church? No; perhaps you may have heard, the distances were a little farther then, without automobiles. They were still Christian. If there were surveys then, do you think they would have answered "Buddhist?" Did the enlightenment philosophes make some inroads? Yes, on that same pointy headed one percent of the eastern seabord establishment that still runs the country, Harvard, Yale, and all their wannabees.

America's DeChrsitianization Was Planned
All of this did not come about as an evolvement of western society. It was planned, and these groups are still carrying out their agenda in the face of America's liberalized cotton candy Christians. Who planned this, how did they accomplish what they have done thus far? That is for courageous Christians to deduce, and to publically identify these cancor worms by group and by individual activity. Liberalism is the culprit. Liberalism breeds cowardice. It also breeds vicious label-affixing, name-calling fanatics that suffer from self-induced meglomania. Their flurry is designed to cover up their cowardice: they won't go to the armed forces to fight for our nation's freedom; they won't support our country's traditions because that would demand that they exercise self-restraint and exhibit courage. They want to DeChristianize this nation, because their behinds-the-scenes masterminds are non-Christians who hate Jesus Christ and have absolutely no legacy or heritage in the founding of this great nation.
Christians stop whining. Figure out the methods they used to accomplish their ends- publishing, entertainment media, control of our courts, control of all levels of education, their iron fist of intimidation, and their demands to come in between our children and their parents, their church, their God. Build Christian based entertainment and media entities(we need Christian Patriot TV), raise up Christian judges(we need a Christian Patriot Party), put your children in Christian schools, plan the Christian takeover of public schools at all levels; demand control of the public square - Christians created it, Christians should run it. Fight back in this war of words and labels -call them what they are "Christ-Hating Treasonists!"

need for values
I’m a non-theist, my wife is a non-practicing Muslim. We choose to raise our daughter in a secular environment. We soon realized this practice lacked moral grounding and ethical values. We made the decision to transfer her to a Catholic school after forth grade. She is currently a senior at a Catholic prep school. This was the best decision we could of possibly made. Aside from getting an excellent education she is a wonderful young lady who maintains the self-confidence and sense of right and wrong to resist negative peer pressure. It appears to me that, we as a society need the guidance of the Judo-Christian belief system.

lightning_fast
"How shall they hear if no one goes to tell them?"

I think you probably misunderstand me, as well. Christianity is not a generational religion. I didn't inherit it from my parents. My great-great-grandfather Joseph was a Methodist minister and some of his children were devout while others were not. My grandmother (Joseph's granddaughter) was unable to bring any of her children to the Lord; thus I grew up in a secular household. I became a Christian through the witness of friends.

My ancestor Joseph was a witness to the 2nd Great Awakening. He'd become a Christian as a teen at mission school, but he was a young adult at the start of the 2GW. Just because his parents were not Christians does not mean he was not a Christian (though his father accepted Christ in his old age). Christ comes into individual lives. Christianity is, therefore, not a societal religion that absorbs the individual into it. Although the Catholics practiced societal religion for centuries, this is not the Biblical model, which is much closer to the Protestant/Congregationalist model.

So, Joseph wouldn't have been counted as becoming a Christian in the 1830s Awakening, but he was very definitely a Christian. His diaries include why he chose Methodism in the 1840s. He'd been a Congregationalist before that, but there were no congregations near his trading post in MI, so he started attending a Methodist meeting. When he felt God called him to preach and pastor, he was already a member of a Methodist church, so remained a Methodist.

lightning_fast
You wrote - "The vast majority who lived in this country and who settled this country were not Christians."

My daughter says I need to clarify.

True, the Indians who were here at the time of the Mayflower were not Christians. They became Christians as they learned about Jesus. Joseph's account (written 10 years later when he started keeping diaries) shows no force. He admired the teachers at the mission school and wanted to know what they believed. Many of his fellow students took the reading lessons -- usually from the Bible, since that was the book most available -- and went home to their native religion. Joseph contemplated what he was reading. He was never forced to become a Christian, or for that matter, forced to read the Bible (though there were no other reading materials). After he became a Christian, however, he did witness to many in his village, who became Christians. He said he found many of them were eager for God.

As for the vast majority of settlers -- I think most were from a Christian background. Pilgrims, the Pennsylvania Dutch, the Congregationalsists. I doubt most of them were Muslims or even secularists. Toqueville noted we were a uniquely religious society during his visit. That didn't happen just because of the 2nd Great Awakening. For one thing, it seems to ignore the 1st Great Awakening and the intervening years.

Dino
Thank you for your observation.

Not the stuff of St. Peter
.

Just Imagine....China as the superpower
Just imagine the world in 50 years with China as the superpower and America a faded shadow if its past due to economic rot brought on by too much government spending, no industrial base and a political class so focused on America's faults that they fail to see her strengths.

Now, imagine that world with a super-power with no Christian background, balance or tolerance of other faiths and a political class with no qualms about using its power and influence to further its own interests.

When the Red Navy steams into NY harbor not even the idiot liberal morons that have torn down every institution in this country in the name of "diversity" and "apologizing" for American arrogance will be able to ignore the obvious.

Our only saving grace then will be the hope that the Chinese don't blow us up is because they don't want all of their property assets damaged since they will own it all including the mortgage!

I think there is a rubber room waitng for you somewhere.

leslie at 9:59
Please think on this. The Scriptures inform us we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. Everything that you recommended is antithetical to God's methods. He could do better with a few people locking themselves away in their closets crying, fasting, interceding than a million implementing the methods you spoke of. See the upper room experience for this.
A good question for many here who consider themselves Christians would be how much time is spent praying, fasting, crying out for God. In that question would also be how many belong to a congregation that does the same.

re: David, #36
quote: "Just imagine the world in 50 years with China as the superpower and America a faded shadow if its past due to economic rot brought on by too much government spending, no industrial base and a political class so focused on America's faults that they fail to see her strengths. "

This won't happen. first of all, every time China undergoes periods of economic expansion, it ends up surrendering to internal turmoil. Secondly, the US controls the shipping lanes in both the Atlantic AND the Pacific. At best, China could control only one, not both. Third, making the statement that somehow America is losing our "industrial base" is judging the future based on the technology of the past. Our manufacturing output is increasing, not decreasing; due to technological innovation that spurs productivity gains, we make more product with fewer workers.

We blame the leftists judges, the...
leftist politicians, and the leftists activists, but who is really to blame? As that once famous cartoon character Pogo observed: "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
We have no one to blame but ourselves for this mess we find ourselves in. We, the American people, the conservative middle class, the productive sector of society have frittered away our country through inattention and inaction while the leftists were as busy as beavers. While we slept, they were scheming, while we worked, they were organizing and marching, while we prayed in church, they were electing themselves into office. In other words, we ourselves allowed this to happen, and now we're mad as hell. It's time to call Roto-Rooter before the roots have grown too thick and strong.

This is the 2nd American Revolution
going on right under our noses. Either get active and quash this fledgling Obamanation now, or our children and grandchildren will be fighting a bloody 3rd American Revolution.

Yes but,
the bottom of all this is the blatant rejection of revelation found in Scripture.

This is true in almost the entire education system. This is the gist of the fight.
