Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"Real men go to Tehran!" brayed the neoconservatives, after the success of their propaganda campaign to have America march on Baghdad and into an unnecessary war that has forfeited all the fruits of our Cold War victory.

Now they are back, in pursuit of what has always been their great goal: an American war on Iran. It would be a mistake to believe they and their collaborators cannot succeed a second time. Consider:

On being chosen by Israel's President Shimon Peres to form the new regime, Likud's "Bibi" Netanyahu declared, "Iran is seeking to obtain a nuclear weapon and constitutes the gravest threat to our existence since the war of independence."

Echoing Netanyahu, headlines last week screamed of a startling new nuclear breakthrough by the mullahs. "Iran ready to build nuclear weapon, analysts say," said CNN. "Iran has enough uranium to make a bomb," said the Los Angeles Times. Armageddon appeared imminent.

Asked about Iran's nukes in his confirmation testimony, CIA Director Leon Panetta blurted, "From all the information I've seen, I think there is no question that they are seeking that capability."

Tuesday, Dennis Ross of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a front spawned by the Israeli lobby AIPAC, was given the Iranian portfolio. AIPAC's top agenda item? A U.S. collision with Iran.

In the neocon Weekly Standard, Elliot Abrams of the Bush White House parrots Netanyahu, urging Obama to put any land-for-peace deals with the Palestinians on a back burner. Why?

"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is now part of a broader struggle in the region over Iranian extremism and power. Israeli withdrawals now risk opening the door not only to Palestinian terrorists but to Iranian proxies."

The campaign to conflate Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria as a new axis of evil, a terrorist cartel led by Iranian mullahs hell-bent on building a nuclear bomb and using it on Israel and America, has begun. The full-page ads and syndicated columns calling on Obama to eradicate this mortal peril before it destroys us all cannot be far off.

But before we let ourselves be stampeded into another unnecessary war, let us review a few facts that seem to contradict the war propaganda.

First, last week's acknowledgement that Iran has enough enriched uranium for one atom bomb does not mean Iran is building an atom bomb.

To construct a nuclear device, the ton of low-enriched uranium at Natanz would have to be run through a second cascade of high-speed centrifuges to produce 55 pounds of highly enriched uranium (HUE).

There is no evidence Iran has either created the cascade of high-speed centrifuges necessary to produce HUE or that Iran has diverted any of the low-enriched uranium from Natanz. And the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors retain full access to Natanz.

And rather than accelerating production of low-enriched uranium, only 4,000 of the Natanz centrifuges are operating. Some 1,000 are idle. Why?

Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, head of the IAEA, believes this is a signal that Tehran wishes to negotiate with the United States, but without yielding any of its rights to enrich uranium and operate nuclear power plants.

For, unlike Israel, Pakistan and India, none of which signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and all of which ran clandestine programs and built atom bombs, Iran signed the NPT and has abided by its Safeguards Agreement. What it refuses to accept are the broader demands of the U.N. Security Council because these go beyond the NPT and sanction Iran for doing what it has a legal right to do.

Moreover, Adm. Dennis Blair, who heads U.S. intelligence, has just restated the consensus of the 2007 National Intelligence Estimate that Iran does not now possess and is not now pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

Bottom line: Neither the United States nor the IAEA has conclusive evidence that Iran either has the fissile material for a bomb or an active program to build a bomb. It has never tested a nuclear device and has never demonstrated a capacity to weaponize a nuclear device, if it had one.

Why, then, the hype, the hysteria, the clamor for "Action This Day!"? It is to divert America from her true national interests and stampede her into embracing as her own the alien agenda of a renascent War Party.

None of this is to suggest the Iranians are saintly souls seeking only peace and progress. Like South Korea, Japan and other nations with nuclear power plants, they may well want the ability to break out of the NPT, should it be necessary to deter, defend against or defeat enemies.

But that is no threat to us to justify war. For decades, we lived under the threat that hundreds of Russian warheads could rain down upon us in hours, ending our national existence. If deterrence worked with Stalin and Mao, it can work with an Iran that has not launched an offensive war against any nation within the memory of any living American.

Can we Americans say the same?

Projecting your traits and behaviors onto others is a sure sign of your mental illness.
Given your user name Dr. Rossiter can do a book on those who favor 3rd-or lesser-party candidates. Paul, by the way, is about as right as Dennis Kucinich or any other loon from a major, 3rd-or lesser-party.
I read your 5:14, 5:04 posts and decided I was being unfair to Muslims, Iranians or others, like Kenyan/Indonesian Obama, one rock let alone a box of them, and the so dumb they don’t know how dumb they are. You are the most ignorant poster; laziest too.
You use a computer, yet a 5th-grader or less can Google for the information you were missing and misusing in your posts.
I have concluded: 1) the after-five hour may be the only time you are allowed out of your padded cell, 2) you are still too dangerous to be released from psychiatric care like Britney Spears as a danger to her/yourself and others. Take your meds now like a good, little boy and get some rest please.
P.S. I want some of what you are smoking, injecting, snorting and drinking.

Ron Paul: CA
I read your 2/28/09 5:20 PM EST post. I decided this guy is crazier than the Iranian Muslims, among the top 5 most ignorant posters ever here and dumber than a box of rocks, so dumb he doesn’t even know how dumb he is.
I can hardly ever resist trying to educate with facts, truth and real history the uneducable. Iranian Islamic jihadists, starting with Ahmadinejad are crazy in so many ways it is not possible to share all with you here. Islamic jihadists have streamed into Afghanistan and Iraq from all over the world - the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa and most definitely Iran. This is one of the many beauties of Bush’s strategy in the “War on Terror” – a serious misnomer.
Islamic jihadist Muslim men are promised 72 virgins in Allah’s heaven, passage on the quickest, most assured path possible by those who send them to jihad . I have been asking my Muslim friends – men and women – what the women and children, many of them retarded and mentally deficient like you, are promised. I do not have a clear answer yet, but the prevailing answer from Muslim women has been never to see a man again, certainly not one like you.
Your writing is so poor it is not possible to tell to which one nation you are referring as “most militarily belligerent.” Regardless, Islamic jihadists are still recruiting suicide bombers, including U.S. born and raised. You are highly qualified.

"Crazy" Iranian Muslims...
If these folks are so "crazy", why aren't they streaming across the Iraqi frontier to confront the American infidels? I hear, ad nauseum, about how these "nuts" just can't wait to get to heaven and their 70(?) virgins. What gives?

It is funny how people from one of the most militarily belligerent nations ever known to man seem scared of everyone else. A form of psychological "projecting" perhaps?

Reba, the reason Japan and Germany
never launched a real attack/invasion of the USA is because THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THEY COULD'VE DONE IT!!!

It doesn't take a genius to see how a smaller industrial power like Japan had ZERO capability of launching an invasion against the USA. Also, they knew that everyone here had guns--imagine that...an armed populace/citizens' militia (as opposed to a professional standing army) acting as a deterrent to an invader! Totally unrealistic. Ditto for Germany--if they never even TRIED to mount an invasion of the MUCH smaller, MUCH closer, and MUCH more ill-equipped Britain (compared to the USA)...why in God's name would you think they posed a threat to the USA?

Japan KNEW their attack on Pearl would merely buy them time (though probably not as much as they would've expected), but they did it because they knew America was going to interfer w/their plans. Really, they were left no choice. Once again, the USFG pursued a belligerent policy, and the expected results occured.

Reba you need a lesson in history
from a NON-govt approved source.

FDR desperately wanted to get into WWII (to take attention away from his utterly failed economic policies), but the little problem of the American populace being dead set against it existed.

Solution?

Pursue belligerent actions--arming the Brits and trade sanctions on Japan--against NEUTRAL countries who have done nothing to the USA. The consequences of these policies were well known by FDR and his admin.

To make sure a sufficiently powerful blow lands, keep the naval commanders in Hawaii "out of the loop" when it comes to intelligence (the USA had cracked Japanese codes WELL before Pearl Harbor)...the rest,we say, is history. FDR got his foreign war and everyone thinks of him as a hero, now.

Wrong Pat
The Soviets did not want to die ...the Iranians do !

For More on the Subversive Globalist CFR
take a look at a very good book titled "Brotherhood of Darkness" by Dr. Stanley Monteith. Get educatd or continue to be played for fools and loose your nation right before your very eyes by the almost 4,000 members of the CFR who "serve" as Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Pentagon Chiefs, CIA directors, mainstream media moguls news anchors, and news chiefs, State Department officials, Federal Reserve chairmen, Secretaries of the Treasury Department, Congressional leaders like Newt Gingrich, Senate leaders, Supreme Court Justices, globalist corporation CEO's on Wall Street, and many members of the military establishment! Their goal is one-world government and ending the impediments of "sovereignty", which impede business. George Soros, the uber-Socialist, Barrack Obama, the Uber-Socialist, and George Bush and his father, Uber-Socialists and even Newt Gingrich and Fox News owner, Rupert Murdoch, are all members of this sinister organization, whose meetings are "private". It is a fraternity of government taht seeks thereby to control government policy and elect only candidates in the "brotherhood". When you vote for President, you choose between CFR Tweedle Dee and CFR Tweedle Dumb, but no matter who you pick, the CFR WINS - not We The People. It's how New York runs the entire show; there is no coincidence why Big Business and Big Media are together in NYC. They have been subverting the American political process since 1921, and the people have not known about it because they OWN the media, too.

War Difference Between Israel & The US
Bibi Netanyahu will attack Iran out of self-defense. Bibi Netanyahu is 100% justified because the prime minister of Iran, Ahmadinejad, has personally stated he desires to see Israel "wiped off the map". The difference between Netanyahu and the US is that the neocons in the US would then seek to un-Constitutionally bankrupt the US with a subsequent un-Constitutional nation-building of Iran. Netanyahu will bomb the nuclear reactors sites and possibly the government buildings and be done with them. The Constitution Party sees the Israeli response as the proper war response. The CFR-owned GOP and the Democratic Party believe there's a golden business opportunity there - to hell with whether the American People can afford it or not. This kind of thinking is CRIMINAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL. One fine day, the activities and personnel of the CFR will be exposed and hopefully HANGED for CRIMES OF HIGH TREASON AGAINST THE UNITED STATES. Only then can America return to responsible, CONSTITUTIONAL government.

Pat is Following Our Constitution II
The neocons like Rush Bimbo, Sean Insanity, Ann Coulter, William Kristol, Bush I & II, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and so many others cite as their justification for support of un-Constitutional warfare the patently absurd notion that if we don't attack them over there, they'll get us over here. How daft is that reasoning? If their riduclous party and the other bonehead party had bothered to honor their Constitutional OATHS to protect our border and enforce our immigration laws, we wouldn't have any problem whatsoever with protecting ourselves here. These terrorists cannot assemble an invading army or navy or air force. The Founding Fathers granted Congress the right to issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal against her early terrorist enemies, the Barbary Pirates. Israel herself demonstrated a modern application of this principle of Marque and Reprisal after the asassination of 11 of her athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics when she sent 5 top-secret crack troops to track down and kill the Black September terrorists. By the same token, Israel sent crack troops against terrorists in the Raid on Entebbe. Standing armies and nation-building to stave off terrorism is foolish nonsense! The Israelis know this; why don't we??? Did the Israelis stick around and re-build Gaza??? WAKE UP, NEOCON NUTJOBS; TRUE CONSERVATISM IS TRUE CONSTITUTIONALISM!!! Neoconism is national suicide. Neocons run the CFR which owns and runs BOTH parties when they run Presidential candidates and pick Presidential Cabinets. How else can you explain their overwhelming support for policies the American People consistently despise like Illegal Immigration, NAFTA, the North American Union, and BAILOUTS AD NAUSEUM???

Pat is Following Our Constitution
Our Constitution, which both parties that are owned by the CFR routinely ignore, specifically warns against "foreign alliances" and entanglements. Yes, our Constitution, if we followed it, would not approve of such ridiculous military alliances as NATO. It sought an America that would be a peace-loving country that refused to engage in European petty and immoral wars. It did not advocate against self-defense however. It also clearly did not advocate or condone the un-Constitutional and un-American practice of nation-building. Even when the Barbary Pirates, the first terrorists, had been capturing American ships and torturing and imprisoning American sailors for ransom, the young US government sent Marines to Tripoli to kick the sultan's butt, BUT WE DIDN'T STAY THERE AND COLONIZE AND STABILIZE THE DAMN PLACE!!! That sort of behavior was unconscionable for a nation that had just had a revolution against Great Britain, arguably the most powerful imperialistic nation at the time. The Founding Fathers knew wars of opportunity and colonization were immoral and quite expensive. The Kings of Europe had paid for their numerous opportunistic, petty, and immoral wars through colonial gold, colonial riches, colonial mining, slavery, and ludicrous taxation of both colonial and native populations. Our Founding Fathers knew we could in no way afford such folly.

No One Has To Go Anywhere
The war is coming here to the U.S. again according to ObamaSpeak/Write:
This will take some thinking on the part of readers of this post, but give it a try. If you have questions, please ask for clarification.
It has taken me awhile - 45 years of studying Islam with Muslims, at grad level, 8x to Middle East since '04, world travel before and since including to Africa and Asia, more years dealing with international relations, national defense and politics at all levels+a few other things, but I have figured out finally ObamaSpeak/Write.
Muslim or not - I will not argue that point here - Obama is as he has spoken/written strongly influenced by Muslims, Black Separatists, Socialists, Communists, terrorists and other worthies.
Obama has a plan. He spoke/wrote about it in his 2 books, "campaign rhetoric" - his words, platform as a candidate, in the Obama/Biden Plan - whitehouse.gov - elsewhere and is putting it into effect as fast as he can before too many get it clear.
His plan is to bankrupt the U.S. fully, to the point we will welcome those who have the $$ - oil-holding, producing and other countries, like China. Then we will be in dhimmi.
You can figure it all out as I have by studying all he has done before, on and since 1/20/09. Forget all your beliefs, Western thinking and know a key tenet of Islam is to "seduce (fool) 'em until strong enough to take them over."

The Russians were sane...
...These folks are nutz!!!

They are apocalyptic zealots. Don't you remember this quote:

"You love life. We love death!"

Or this from Simon Weisenthal, when asked what he learned from the Holocaust (assuming you don't deny it happended):

"When someone says they mean to kill you, believe them."

Mr. Buchanan, while I am with you on many issues, your naivete regarding Iran is matched only by your ignorance of fundamental economic principles. Please educate yourself!

My First Muslim President
I know President Obama is not Muslim, but I am tempted nevertheless to think that he is, as are most Muslims I know. In a very unscientific oral poll, ranging from family members to Muslim acquaintances, many of us feel, just as African-Americans did for the non-black but culturally leaning African-American President Bill Clinton, that we have our first American Muslim president in Barack Hussein Obama.

Subject: Cabinet Appointees

I didn't vote for President Obama, but he is remarkable. In less than three weeks in office, he's collected more than $450,000 in back taxes.

You might be an Oba Ha HA RACIST ... IF
1. If you have ever chuckled at his middle name.

2. If you ever ridiculed the assertion that tire gauges lower gas prices.

3. If you ever laughed at the claim that he campaigned in 57 states.

4. If you ever suggested that the "Vero Possemus" campaign signs had something to do with possums.

5. If you ever downloaded the video of him bowling a 37 in front of reporters.

6. If you ever shared the video comparing him to Paris Hilton.

7. If you ever cracked wise about his cocaine use. (Joking about Dubya's alleged cocaine use is politically correct.)

8. If you ever made fun of his big ears.

9. If you ever said that the look on his wife's face could curdle fresh milk.

10. If you ever noted that his pastor acted like he was on Def Comedy Jam.

The War Party
Guess what? I am a member of the war party.

Since I am a free man, I get to choose. That is my choice.

Those who do not approve of my choice will
be required to do one of two things:

(1) Put Up or
(2) Shut up.

Which will it be?

Reba in TX
Now you have to behave yourself, little girl.
The Ayatollah Pat will come and get you if you don't.

Now whom are you going to trust? Ron Paul Was Right or your own feeble little senses? After all those seven (7) Japanese atomic bomb factories (six in mainland Japan, one in Wonsan Korea) were built after 1830 so they were just like the Iranian nukes, no threat at all. The real trouble was the neocon Chester Nimitz.

You must also remember that since Netanyahu has a vision for Israel that necessarily involves the survivial and well-being of the US, "Bibi" must be condemned at all times. If you do not you will be arrested for unauthorized possession of common sense.

My nephew Wormwood will arrive shortly to see to your proper re-education.

*** Q. Why did Obama change his name from Barry Obama to Barack Obama?
A. He thought “Barry” sounded too American.

*** What do Miley Cyrus and Barack Obama have in common? They both attract young people with mindless verses

*** A teacher asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Obama fans. Not really knowing what an Obama fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for little Johnny. The teacher asked Little Johnny why he has decided to be different.

Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm not an Obama fan.'

The teacher asked, 'Why aren't you an Obama fan?'

Johnny said, 'Because I'm a Republican.'

The teacher asked him why he's a Republican.

Little Johnny answered, 'Well, my Mom's a Republican and my Dad's a Republican, so I'm a Republican.'

Annoyed by this answer, the teacher asked, 'If your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot, what would that make you?'

With a big smile, Little Johnny replied, 'That would make me an Obama fan.

**Barack Obama isn't planning on buying TurboTax®. Obama can turbocharge our taxes all by himself.

**President Obama's tax return should list Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright as dependents.

**President Obama plans to start printing income tax forms on Kleenex, so it will be easier for us to pay through the nose.

**President Obama has just announced that he has a new plan to simplify the tax code. From now on only the Republicans will have to have to pay any taxes.

**Q. Who should be listed as the most expensive dependent on your tax return?

A. President Obama.

**President Obama will make it a lot easier for most people to do their income taxes next year. No jobs, no income.

**Under Obama everyone in America will be working for the government. Democrats will be on the payrolls and Republicans will be on the tax rolls.

**In the interest of full disclosure, President Obama's should declare all of the fawning media coverage he's received so far as a gift on his tax return.

**Despite what some people are claiming, this country is just as free under the Obama presidency as it ever was . . . unless you happen to be a taxpayer.

**If President Obama listed free enterprise on his tax return, it would have to be listed as a liability. That's because he just writes it off.

**Today the IRS released new guidelines on how to avoid audits while Obama is the president. Number one - Don't list excessive deductions. Number two - File your return on time. Number three - Register to vote as a Democrat.

**Judging by his wild spending so far, President Obama has apparently decided that it is easier to trim the taxpayers than to trim federal spending.

**Don't think of it as paying more taxes. Think of it as giving Obama a big tip.

**Thanks to President Obama we will become a more honest people. Once we're all jobless there won't be any point in lying on our tax returns.

Friday should be a day to laugh at DUMBOMBA and his 'gay' followers - especially the obombniacs that haunt this blog ... :-)

*The maid in charge of the wardrobe at the White House is arranging Obama's suits. "Black suit, brown suit, blue suit, gray suit, empty suit... Oh! I'm sorry, Mr. President!"

*Michelle Obama fuming over pictures of Her Husband knee-deep in the Hawaiian surf: "All the pictures of Him walking on water, and CNN had to run the one where He fell in!...

*"Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit Obama's national debt."

*Based on his performance in office so far, President Obama should do just fine on his future tax returns. After all, he will be able to write off his second term.

*It's too bad that we can't buy stock in the federal tax system. With Obama as president that will be only thing sure to go up.

*President Obama is angrily calling for more federal tax increases. He just heard from his advisors that some American taxpayers weren't completely broke yet.

*The best things in life are free but President Obama's tax advisors are working hard trying to solve that problem.

Major General wants PROOF Obama!
On the heels of two active duty members of the U.S. military serving in Iraq calling for President Obama to prove his eligibility to be president, a retired major general has agreed to join the case, saying he just wants "the truth."

Now retired Maj. Gen. Carroll D. Childers has submitted a statement to Taitz and her DefendOurFreedoms.us website, agreeing to be a plaintiff in her pending action.

"I agree to be a plaintiff in the legal action to be filed by Orly Taitz, Esq. in a petition for a declaratory judgement (sic) that Barack Hussein Obama is not qualified to be president of the U.S., nor to be commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces, in that I am or was a sworn member of the U.S. military (subject to recall)," he wrote.

If God is going to take care of Israel, why do we? Just wondering...

RON PAUL WAS RIGHT
Your comment "since the 1830's no country in the world has posed a serious threat to America's existence".

What do you call the attack on Pearl Harbor? The Japanese considered continuing to the mainland to attack. There were reports of German U-Boats on our East Coast before we entered WWII. Prior to 1941 the USA was ill prepared to defend itself in an all out assault. Luckily it never happened, but would have been crippling if it had.

How do you consider the Cuban missle crises? I well remember the day of that standoff between Russia and the USA. The country was in fear of a serious conflict and many people stocked up on food, water in preparation of an attack. My military husband was on stand by alert for 7 days, his bag packed sitting near the front door. If he would have had to leave I did not know when or if I would see him again.

Even though he went to Viet Nam 3 times, I never saw that war as a just war, just picking up where France left off.
War, for any reason is never good, but necessary at times. Please stop calling this country a "bully" and that we have a foreign policy that is billigerent, and have lack of respect for foreigners.

I served 2 1/2 years in the USA Peace Corps which only one of many programs that the State Department has around the world to provide assistance, aid, teaching and hands up to foster better relationship in a global community. There are many good Americans who provide their time, energy and resources to help less fortunate in other countries. I feel you need to be more objective and look at the numerous good that our country does around the world.
Your posts sound bitter which does coincide with the moniker of "Ron Paul was Right".

Oracle 1
Israel is no more expensive than our
welfare handouts.Beside that,You keep your eye on that tiny little country
God is going to take care of them no matter what you or I think. Read the book of revelation and see who wins!

Pat forgets one thing
Herr obama is going to need to do something to get the public mind off the failing economy and the fact that he is doubleing the national debt in less than a year. Socialist always use the same tact to switch public attention from the failed economic policies, war. Herr Obama will need to start a war in 14 to 16 months to keep his democratic majority and get re-elected.

Weather its with Iran for Sudan does not really matter much but he will have to have his war or lose political power.

Iraq Iran
Look at what debacle the Iraq War was (is).

Now the Israel-First neocons want to attack Iran, a country (approx.) 4 times the size and population of Iraq. Complete insanity.

Is there a politician in the country who will stand up to the Jewish lobby?

Reba, EAD, and consider...
...that the U.S. federal govt (USFG) has been involved in more big foreign wars--not to mention routinely engaging in smaller incursions/police-actions into other countries (including Russia after WWI), not to mention meddling in [destablizing] the internal affairs of other countries through intelligence agencies and foreign "aid"--since 1861 than any other govt on Earth.

The USFG has involved itself in wars which have claimed the lives of 10's of MILLIONS of people and resulted in untold $trillion$ in wanton destruction of property.

The USFG maintains an armed force capable of putting a terrible hurting on any country in the world AND a nuclear arsenal capable of destroying every other country on Earth.

The United States have not faced a serious threat of invasion (besides the CSA being invaded by the tyrant Lincoln and his armies) since the War Of 1812.

Yet, somehow, we're supposed to be afraid of tiny Iran?

cont'd
The current conflicts in the middle east/Muslim world are perfect examples. The USFG's long history of having a hand in the killing of 100's of thousands of middle east denizens through its support of Israel, sicking its former pet dictator [Saddam Hussein] on Iran (in retaliation for overthrowing the USFG's pet dictator there), direct military aggression (Gulf Wars I & II), the horrific blockade during the Clinton years (murdering 100's of thousands of civillians is FAR worse than getting a BJ from an intern in my book), and overall meddling in the region's internal affairs (by way of "foreign aid" given to dictators and CIA destabalization of govts the USFG doesn't like)...yet Americans think THEY are the ones under attack! They can't fathom why "they hate us so much"...AMAZING, isn't it?

American foreign policy history
The history of American foreign policy is a history of belligerence, conquest, and lack of respect for the rights of foreigners. The word "bully" comes to mind. War has, predominantly, been used--not as a last resort to preserve liberty/sovereignty--but as a favored tool of foreign "diplomacy".

Virtually every war in American history (post-Revolution) has been avoidable. The War Of 1812 (which was so unpopular it led to threats of secession from New England States--too bad they changed their tune when the South attempted to secede) was caused by some of the very same actions, on Britain's part, that the USFG routinely practices today. Elements w/i the USFG tried to use it as an excuse to forcefully annex Canada (even then the USFG was trying to "spread democracy"!)--however the State militias in the NE didn't take too well to imperialism. In the end a bunch of folks died (mostly Americans) for no real pressing matter.

The USFG has looked to get into wars...provoking conflicts and then stirring up patriotic sentiments with talk of national honor and fear-mongering.

The truth of the matter is that the U.S. have been safe from serious threat since very early on in its history. As early as the 1820's or 1830's no country in the world has ever posed a serious threat to America's existence. Somehow, though, the USFG has managed to have the country continuously embroiled in conflicts (wars of expansion) ever since its founding (wars against Indian tribes and esp. starting w/the war against Mexico).

The idiocy of the neocons...
So amazed were the Iranians to see President Bush destroy their two most detested enemies in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001 and 2003 that some theologians held that such stupidity must be divinely inspired and heralded the return of the Twelfth Imam and the Shia millennium.

PAT AND BARACK AGREE ON THIS ONE
Hugs and Kisses from Iran

Excerpt from The Center for Values --
“I do think that it is important for us to be willing to talk to Iran,” said Obama. “If countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us.”

Ahmadinejad responded the very next day—with a clenched fist.
“Those who speak of change,” said the Iranian leader, in a direct reference to Obama’s campaign slogan, “should apologize to the Iranian nation for their dark background and the crimes they have committed against the Iranian nation.” Americans should “try to repair their past crimes.” The kingpin of the world’s leading terrorist state for 30 years demanded “deep and fundamental” change from Obama and America.

Moreover, the same day that Obama spoke of the need for conciliatory language by America and Israel, both Ahmadinejad and his spokesman reiterated the state’s official position that the Holocaust was “a big lie.” And if that wasn’t enough, the Iranian government went further, asserting that, “This request [by Obama] means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed.”

The Iranians sensed a delicious, victorious weakness in the new president. Iran “listened” to Obama alright, and then snapped the olive branch and tossed a series of verbal hand grenades. The mullahs almost seemed to be having fun with the new president.

The fact is that one crazy man named Ahmadinejad, with one nuclear missile, is an extremely dangerous prospect, regardless of the size of his nation. Size of territory is rarely a determinant of threat; if it were, Canada and the United States, two of the largest countries, would be at war constantly—and neither Germany (about the size of Wisconsin) nor Japan would have been a concern in World War II, nor the tiny nations in the Balkans that launched World War I.
______
So much for Pat B's theory!

Typically all the keyboard heroes
come out of the woodworks to suggest that the USFG rain down death and destruction on every man, woman, and child in Iran.

What is it about neocons (most whom consider themselves Christians, I wager) that cause them to want the USFG to bully smaller, weaker, 3rd world countries who just want to be left alone?

What a bunch of disgusting and ignorant cowards Americans have become.

Excellent as usual Pat
However, don't think for one second that facts and logic will have any impact on the Israel-firster and warmonger crowds.

Threat of nuclear destruction
We would not have had to live for decades with the threat of hundreds of Soviet or Chinese nuclear weapons raining down on us within hours had we put an end to Russia's and China's nuclear prgrams before they got off the ground, when we had the overwhelming advantage.

Iran would probably still be our friend and ally had Carter not pulled the rug out from under the Shah. Since it is no longer an ally but is a significant threat, Tehran should have been obliterated years ago, about a day after we got the embassy hostages back.

Butcher of...
...mostly just the english language.

Fruits of the cold War............
Today we are as close to all out world conflict as we were at anytime during the Carter Administration.
Radical Islamic extremist are gaining more power everyday in Pakistan.
Russia in its interests have worked to disolve our agreements with Takistan. They flex their Military might once more unter Premire Putin and soon to be re-elected President Putin. Russian armour may be inferior to the Abrahms, but they have numbers for less bucks.
Democrats have only fought two wars that they won with the help of the rest of the world. WWI and WWII. Had it not been for American Industry those wars would have drug on for years longer.
But today we have no industry, its made over seas or not at all by US firms.
Obama and Pelosi will tax the rest of American industry out of existance and create a two tier nation. those that have and those that starve or steal to be fed.
America is no headed towards the pits ad me can do nothing with the irresponsible leadership we have in congress. In 2010 we must oust the House and Senate of Demonic control. Wwe must look past the greedyself serving politicians and get back the core of our party.

U.S. National Interests Trump Israel's

United States National Interests should not be compromised by The National Interests of Foreign Parties.

We,Real Conservatives Body Slammed The Neocon Israel Firsters' Agenda when they attempted to Hijack The White House with their Frontman ,McCain and will continue to oppose their form of Deconstructionist Agenda.

We oppose Leftists,Liberals and Neoconservative Agendas.

Braying neoconservatives????
... their "propaganda campaign to have America march on Baghdad and into an unnecessary war that has forfeited all the fruits of our Cold War victory." ????

No wars are necessary. What fruits? Where forfeiture?

Do you mean that if Saddam & Sons were still in power & unopposed except by UN resolutions that the world would be a better place? That the US would have more credibility in the arab world if we had retreated from the region? That the threat of a nuclear Iran or a nuclear Iraq would have disappeared? That resting on laurels is all that's necessary to keep the dogs at our feet instead of our throats?

Asses bray. So bray on, Buchanan.

william ; catfish keith
William, That's pretty good except that Pat did not recently lay siege to "the lunacy of the war mongering Bush years".

Pat had arrived at that impeccably thought out conclusion some time back.

Insofar as Coulter is concerned, I at one time took her almost seriously, back years ago when she authored "Treason", which details communist infiltration of FDR's administration, and the reprehensible behavior of some in the Democratic party at the time to gloss over this despicable reality.

What she cataloged was largely correct, even if she heaped undeserving praise upon Joe McCarthy.

He was a grandstanding drunkard.

On the general issue of communist infiltration of our govt at the time, specifically Richard Nixon's astuteness in not falling for the lies of Alger Hiss, I think Nixon deserves alot of praise...even if what he later did as president was reprehensible.

And few today recongize that. He stood by Whittaker Chambers when ALL, and I mean all, of the important people belived the communist spy Alger Hiss, and not Whittaker Chambers.

Nixon deserves alot of respect for doing that.

Read Chambers' "Witness". One of the great books of the 20th century.

Seriously.

Returning to Coulter, however, I now regard her as the Paul Reubens(see Pee Wee Herman)of conservative thought.

Plus, if she were to be any prom queen, it would be of an anorexic variety.

What a shame.

Other than those minor points, great post.

Catfish, I'll be brief.

I actually agree with some of your post.

I also think AIPAC has too much influence on our foreign policy.

the EXTREMELY expensive "ally"
Israel is a tiny country of only 5 million (the population of one large American city), but it is inescapably the tail wagging the big dog-- America.

We took out Iraq because a relative handful of neoCONS/Zionists (Wolfy, Perle, Feith, Abrams, Wurmser, Libby) were pulling Dubya's strings and saw the chance to effect their PNAC, first propounded in 1996... they simply used 9/11 as their excuse, but Saddam and Osama were OPPONENTS in the Muslim/Arab world. Most American Jews oppose the war in Iraq, but the militant Pan-Israeli's/neoCONS created the Bush Doctrine.

So we are headed toward spending $3 TRILLION of American $ so Israel can have some permanent American bases to protect it instead of a braying Saddam threatening it. That is $600,000 per Israeli... we should have given them North Dakota instead.

What might we do now with the $ trillion we have already wasted?! Charity begins at home.

You gotta love the artful line--> Israel is our only steadfast ally in the M.E. Well, duh! We chose a tiny nation of 5 million, so 90% of the > 1 billion Islamics do not trust us and believe that we are Israel's pawn.

On the aptness of movie cliche
--
Back in 1971, a decidedly "un-PC" movie called *Big Jake* was released. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoy seeing it occasionally now.

John Wayne movie. What's not to like?

There was a great line of dialogue voiced by the protagonist, very quietly, to the boss villain. It went like so:

"And now *you* understand. Anything goes wrong, anything at all... your fault, my fault, nobody's fault... it won't matter - I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed, I'm gonna blow your head off."

Now let's hear the Israeli NCA say something like this - explicitly and openly - to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran with regard to the actions of Hezbollah and Hamas.

A national government that provides military support to insurrectionists attacking another national government has put itself in a state of war.

Charlie Wilson did this in Afghanistan. The only thing that prevented the Soviet Empire's apparatchiki from acting upon this "state of war" situation was their knowledge that the military forces of these United States were in a full (and very itchy) "I'm gonna blow your head off" mode.

Besides, they'd committed similar acts of war in Korea and Vietnam.

(( Remember those MiG-15 fighters flown by Russian Guards pilots over the Yalu? And all those Russian SAM crews manning missile batteries and killing our pilots over Hanoi? ))

The Iran/Israeli balance of frightfulnes rests upon the same premise, and it's idiocy not to recognize it.

Hey, Tehran?

Message from Israel:

"No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed, I'm gonna blow your head off."

Mr. Buchannan,
you sure have a way to stir up the godless Jews.

I Agree
Many can agree with Pat Buchanan’s positions on foreign policy. Another war with Iran would be “unnecessary.” If it occurs, it will be the result of “war propaganda” and hysteria not grounded in facts. Hopefully, President Obama will choose advisers that are smarter than the “war party” that urged President Bush into waging unnecessary war in Iraq. Chaka Z.

For All The War Hawks

Until you are ready to reject servile and effeminate political correctness, until you are ready to honor military veterans (how many non-veterans elected to office 45-65), until you are unwilling to accept “Jumped Up” little quota princes as leaders, until your children and grandchildren are no longer too good to serve in the military, shut your (pick an adjective) pie holes about Iran or any other foreign adventure.

Head in the Sand
Only a fool would believe that Iran has not intentions of developing a necular bomb. But then we are entering a new Hippy era where everyone believes in comunal love making except on a global scale now. There is no hate or will to destroy America from radical muslims, especially Chavez and Iran. Yes sir you are free at last William in CA, that is until the next warhead hits you directly in your butt sticking out of the sand.

Quick Netanyahu
Bibi is running hard to form a coalition government so he can quickly start a war with Iran.
With our nukes, subs, carriers, massive combat troops in the region, how do we avoid that war? Bibi must act before Obama pulls out. AIPAC has paid too much in dollars, lobbying and buying influence not to get a war from us when Israel demands it!

THANK YOU PAT!
So the Exxon Valdez is finally turning. This week alone on TH we have you admitting and admonishing the lunacy of the war mongering Bush years while Ollie North praises our new President's literacy and charisma... while back in the schoolyard lil orphan Annie Coulter jumps up and down like a Prom Queen runner-up complaining about the accolades and historicisms being cast before Barack.

Ahhh, it is SO GREAT to be getting our country back. Free at last, free at last Thank God Almighty we are free at last!

How about their religion,
which holds that their long sought end time could be brought about by starting a nuclear war? And one of their leaders who said Iran could be totally destroyed if it ment the rest of the world honored allah? MAD doesn't work with these people. Only preemption will.

Iran & The Bomb
Pat, for a conservative, is an honored guest on MSNBC which we all know is slightly to the left of unconscious. Concern with Iran rests with their declared intentions, not whether or not other countries possess nuclear weapons. The Soviet Union never stated they were actually going to blow us up! North Korea, with all their obfuscating speech has never said they're going to blow us sky-high! Of course, we could wait to see just what they do after they manufacture a few nuclear bombs. Maybe they're just blustering. However, when you look at what some Islamic extremists are doing with suicide bombing and what not, maybe, just maybe, they're going to do what they say they're going to do.

If Iran is no threat, explain this
We observed an Iranian ship fire a missile in the caspian sea. We also observed Iran detonate a missle launched from it's soil at its highest point. Why? Intelligence speculates that it wants to launch a nuclear weapon off our shores and detonate it high above our country. The resultant electromagnetic pulse woud wipe out our entire electronic infastructure. Estimates are that 90% of us would die. The term "preemption" was created with this possibility in mind.

The Threat was still made
What Pat forgot to mention is that you have a Little Psychopath in Tehran who did state that "Israel should be wiped from the face of the earth". That sounds like a direct Threat to me. Hitler laid out his Plans to deal with the Jews in Europe in his Book (Mein Kampf) and no one took him seriously and look at what happened. The IAEA just admitted to Underestimating the amount of enriched Uranium that Iran has, can you trust their Intelligence after this? Israel will not Hesitate to deal with Iran, they cannot trust the UN to do anything to stop Iran from getting a Nuclear Weapon. Go Israel...

Buchanan is dangerous
Pat has become like the inmate in an insane asylum, who can sound really sane for awhile and make you wonder why he's there. Then he'll say something like in this column justifying his residence.

Pat can sugar coat Iran and Russia's intent, but you'd have to ignore their track records of supporting terror to every freedom loving country in the world.

Sorry Pat, the facts are too many and too evident to be so foolish to ignore. Go back to your padded cell.

YO Paul
If you really knew the determination of Islamists who are merely acting out on what the Koran directs, I think your assessment of our struggle would be different.

They do not believe in the concept of live and let live, unless you live exactly the way they do. The attacks by Islamists on the WTC as well as the numerous other attacks on us and other areas around the world will continue as long as they have breath.

How someone with Buchanan's intellect can see the overwhelming evidence of this is astonishing. Muslims are involved in almost every conflict worth mentioning around the world.

Actually, I shouldn't be surprised by Buchanan. He actually believes we can trust Russia. Enough said.

The sad truth...
The last thing anyone should want is another prolonged military police action. (What most have come to know as: War (it isn't))
Has anyone noticed the US no longer fights wars with the intention of truly winning, rather only containing an enemy? You do not win wars by seeking out bad guys, arresting them, reading them their rights and holding trials in court. You can only win a war by making the cost of surrender less than the cost of resistance. That comes only through force and total destruction, but the media and an ignorant society don't want to admit this fact: There is no such thing as civilized warfare. No one has the stomach for real war anymore, it is not a pretty sight, however, it is coming whether we want it to or not.

Within months after the US (recently promised) pulls out of Iraq, the Shiites will launch a coup in Bagdhad. The Sunni tribes won't and don't stand a chance of defending themselves. 'Mookie' Al Sadr and his gang of thugs will be running things within weeks of the takeover. Next, the Persians will join with or target Syria and Lebanon and then all hell breaks loose. After that we will be right back over there only at a much higher cost in blood, equipment and total human tragedy because this time it will really mean war. This time the US will not be exempt from street fighting and terrorist bombs. The enemy is already here. He has been infiltrating since the mullahs took over Iran. They are just waiting for the order to strike. The worst part, your elected leaders know it and have done absolutely nothing to stop the invasion.

Just you wait and see.
But don't worry, we'll all have really good health insurance for free, and windmills for making electricity. Of course, everytime a terrorist knocks over a windmill we'll be in the dark.

Funny, I really think many Americans like living in the dark.

Screw them.
Anything that comes out of Israel should be treated as suspect. I wouldn't trust the Israelis as far as I could throw them. Some of the "intelligence" the Bush administration used to invade Iraq with came out of Israel.

If you want to wreck what is left of the US economy, do something stupid in the M.E. like bombing Iran for Israel's short term benefit and let's see what happens to oil prices.

It isn't the fault of America that the Zionists who established their country in 1948 were so stupid to demand that it be placed right in the middle of the Muslim world.

Not our problem, except if we make it our problem as the Israelis, their fifth column here and the dispensationalists have their way.

Pat... Bush is in Texas.
It would take a major shift in the political makeup of the US government to get us into a war with Iran, wouldn't it? Are we all missing something here? You may have written this article last year and been partially on point, but this is just embarassing.

As far as radical Islam getting nukes... Have none of you read the news that Pakistan is now ruled in part by the Taliban? Swat valley today, tomorrow the rest of the country, including their nuclear military.

With Obama in the Oval Office, and his cadre of sycophants in Congress, well, our military is screwed and so is the USA.

You mention your "Bottom line: Neither the United States nor the IAEA has conclusive evidence that Iran either has the fissile material for a bomb or an active program to build a bomb."

Maybe that is true, but I would guess that the agencies you mention may have incomplete data, and that Israel has more reliable intel, and that they should be taken seriously...

Pat does not address...
the religious fanaticism component of dealing with the rulers in Iran. The "Mutual Assured Destruction" concept of the Cold War era assumed the Russians didn't want to die any more than we did.

The Islamic fanatics welcome death as a gateway to wonderful pleasures, as long as they can kill some infidels and gain a ticket to their paradise.

Deterrence? It worked on communism because even communists don't want to die - after all, there is no hereafter, so enjoy the here-and-now!

On the other hand, the mullahs will gladly trade part of Iran for the elimination of Israel in a nuclear exchange.

Again, Pat is...
... at his best in discussing the Middle East, and the urgent need to not let ZioNutzis trigger a disastrous war.
It's droll to read otherwise clear-thinking conservatives rant that Buchanan has "ugly, demonizing stereotypes" about Jews -- but they then let lose with their own bizarre satanist conspiracy fantasies about Islam, "mad mullahs," and and 30 or 40 or 72 virgins.

Little Dogs Need To Stay On The Porch

If the events of the last decade have shown us anything, it is the West in general and the U.S. in particular, do not have the “Gravitas” to deal with the Islamic world. The ugly evidence of history is when Islam embarks on an evangelical phase the only thing that turns it back is a greater barbarity. A nation of Oprah acolytes who are willing to sell themselves into socialist slavery in hysterical response to 4300 KIA’s have no business engaging in the exercise of military power. The American military needs to be a GLBT force tailored to the delivery of pizzas and medicated wipes to the fly encrusted, benighted, dwarfs of the third world.

Damn those Jooooo's.
That's a pjb mantra.

Military Man Grimes V. Obama
Here is another courageous active military man willing to stand for the US Constitution and the rule of law.... The case is building against Obama ... he is destined to fall ...

Dr. Taitz,
My consent form is attached. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this lawsuit. I was dismayed from the beginning at the attitude of Barack Obama towards us who wear the uniform. He accused me and my brothers and sisters in arms of "air raiding villages and terrorizing civilians" in Iraq.

I have commented many times that he (Barack Obama) would not be able to pass the background check to be a Naval Officer or a Police Officer. Additionally he does not support HR 218 which allows me t be able to protect myself and my family. I could go on and on. For the last 25 yearsI have painstakingly presented numerous documents over my police and Navy careers. If he a US citizen, presenting his birth certificate should be no problem. I believe that knowing that the person at the top of the military and law enforcement chains of command is eligible to hold the office is a reasonable request.

Very Respectfully,

Clint Grimes

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of all who threaten it!

http://defendourfreedoms.us/

Not that simple....
How can you expect deterrence to work against members of a religion who think that even if wiped out in response to an offensive strike, they will all die as heroes to the Islamic world and as martyrs, go to heaven and get their 40 virgins?
A single nuclear missile could wipe Israel off the map. There will be nothing left to defend.
Proverbs 31:8-9. Speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, defend those who cannot defend themselves, and plead the cause of those in need.

Buchanan does not understand Islam
Pat's message is impressive for distinguishing himself from logic. How he can ignore the overt and widely-known support of Iran for such as Hamas & Hezbollah is beyond understanding. Makes one wonder if Pat were constantly attacked every day, would he fight back or would he defiantly ignore the facts in order to distinguish himself? Is it weakness or ego that drives such ignorance from Pat? Like the ultimate bully that Islam is, they are laughing at weakness employed by Democrats and the likes of Buchanan.

what...
sounds like we heard all of this before when Clinton was in office. Only that time it was about Iraq. The controlling administration will do nothing until it is too late...and it might be too late. And then...blame Bush...if there is anyone around who cares. Think about it!

Sorry Pat
Pat has always been a favorite of mine as a commentator. But, you are wrong in your article. Iran has been attempting to build a nuke since the Shah. You know that as well as I. The choice is isolationism or Wilsonian Democracy: McGovern or Reagan essentialy. Neither is an absolute perfect choice. I'd rather be bold than withdraw within. Noone likes conflict but preventing a larger one is what world powers must do. To return to isolationism is, I believe, an admittance that our belief that we must fight wrong has left and disappeared into the beginning of our demise.

John Pilato.
Buffalo, NY

Pat this country would not fight Iran
now if they attacked us. Pressdent Obama is a democrat! Congress is controlled by democrats.
Do you still remember Pressdent Jimma Carter and the year and half he cried and wrung his little sweaty pink hands and begged Iran to give back our diplomats.

The only way the US would now lob a round over that direction is if Monica Lewinsky gets another job at the white house....and gets caught again..

The democrats are running the show. It is free cheese for everyone and nutering the US Military again.

A true conservative
Pat Buchanan is a true, old-line conservative. While I have some disagreements with him, his foreign policy is usually correct.

True conservatives should understand that foreign interventionism and unnecessary wars are the quickest ways to despotism. War, as Madison said, is the mother of all tyrannies.

Pat is not, by the way, anti-Israel. He just doesn't think the US should follow every directive of the Likud Party. The primary goal of US foreign policy should be free and open trade relations with all nations, but entangling alliances with none (including Israel).

The Neocons have already bankrupted the country with their wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (as well as their big government domestic policies). Obama promises more of the same. It's time to follow Pat's advice and get out of the Middle East entirely.

Hysterical Drivel
This is hysterical drivel by someone who should not be considered a conservative. Buchanan is an anti-Israel isolationist. At a time when people should be realizing we did the right thing in Iraq in removing a brutal, terrorist supporting dictator and that the Middle East is a better place for the secular democracy there now, Buchanan writes as if he are about to go further into folly. The folly would be listening to Buchanan.

perspective.
"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is now part of a broader struggle in the region over Iranian extremism and power. Israeli withdrawals now risk opening the door not only to Palestinian terrorists but to Iranian proxies", so writes former Bush admin. "thinker" Elliot Abrams in the rag notorious for shilling the neocon line("Weekly Standard").

But if neocon Abrams is so concerned about Iran's meddling in the region, didn't our invasion to remove Iran's fiercest enemy, Saddam, redound to the benefit of that Persian nation?

Are Abrams and other neocons squirming now as they confront the implications of their doctrine...to wit, that those policies on Iraq enhanced the power of Iran, including its ability to cause mischief in the region?

This was intuitively understood by all the Sunni nations in the region, which is why they opposed the Iraq invasion in the first place.

However, the elephant in the room is not the menace Iran may or may not pose, but rather Pakistan.

And the extent to which wingnuts fixate on Iran and fail to comprehend the implications of a radicalized Pakistan(if its govt falls), only underscores their tragic failure to grasp reality.

Buchanan is right.

Since the Iranian revolution in '79, Iran has invaded no nation.

In that same timeframe, the U.S. invaded Grenada(1), invaded Panama(2), led the military effort to remove Saddam from Kuwait(3), launched military attacks on Serbia(4), launched attacks in Afghanistan(5), invaded Iraq(6).

By that tally, the U.S. is "6", Iran is "0".

Some of those U.S. operations were completely justified.

But let's maintain some perspective here about a "warmongering Iran".

It does not pass the smell test.

A Nuclear Poker Game?
Pat can't get off his anti-Israel soapbox. I would like to see a response from an Israeli citizen who believes that he and fellow citizens are only a few minutes away from destruction.

Pat is trying to make us believe that Iran is just pretending to prepare for a nuclear war like Saddam Hussein pretended to have weapons of mass destruction. If you bluff in the real world and don't have the cards to back it up you may lose your country--and your life.

Iran, according to Buchanan, is playing the same game. If he's sure it's just a bluff why not spend a year in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem? Put up or throw in your cards, Pat. Bibi is not bluffing: the stakes are too high.

Selective facts
This is a lot like his WW2 history. Sounds good, but falls apart on close examination.

I also agree .......
We cannot go randomly around the world starting wars and attempting to claim the moral ground. However all the hostages from the Iranian student takeover of our embassy during the Carter years have clearly identified Ahmadinajad as the ringleader and chief torturer. But Iran isnt run by him, he must answer to the ruling Mullahs there and with an election coming for Iran this year we may not have to deal with him at all. But we will have to deal with the Mullahs in charge. Do not believe or buy into a peaceful Iran, there simply isnt one. They have learned how to fight a much more dangerous way, by proxy. Much better to risk the lives of the Palestinians who nobody in the middleast likes anyway. Besides it soon wont matter much as we are headed for enough economic ruin that we wont be able to do anything about Iran, we will be far too busy trying to survive our current President and democrat (liberal, communist) leadership. Best thing we could do is bring our people home....... while we can still afford the plane fuel to get them back safely.

Iran: Pat Buchanan VS. Thomas Sowell
Two articles were published at the Townhall at the same time and the same topic:

"Return of the War Party" by Patrick J. Buchanan

Please read both of them and make your choice: who is right and who is wrong ...

Same ole Pat - Ring around the Rosey
Come on Pat. It is getting old. Writing like a liberal when you claim that South Korea and Japan are "just" as likely to seek to go beyond nuclear power to nuclear weapons. No one loses sleep thinking South Korea or Japan is a threat to another nation. The looney president of Iran is not in the same sane category.

Also with Obama so busy seeking to make America into the image of the socialized and domesticated European Union, I don't think we will see any "war" action abroad - Obama is too busy running a domestic economic war here. He will be working the Left's hate of the freedom, exceptionalism and prosperity of this country a thing of the past. We will all play soccer and no one will keep score.

Buchaan is a loose cannon who can seem to shot at anyone except to the right of center at best.

Your Father's World
Patrick, you forget about a dirty bomb, which, if detonated, could have devastating effects on the nation of Israel or any American city for that matter.

How would you feel if you discovered that Iranian scientists were close to developing an AIDS virus that could be transmitted by mosquitos? Or some other Satan Bug that could kill 50 million people?

The truth is that Iran is the biggest purveyor of terrorism in the world. It isn't too far of a stretch to believe that they are sheltering scientists who are working on similar scenarios.

This is no longer your father's world. Unfortunately, that is what Obama and the left still believe.

Iran simply needs to be punished, taught a lesson. I'm thinking a strategic non-nuclear attack that takes out their facilities, as many scientists as possible and Aquavelvajad.

I agree Pat.....
We should not become entangled in every hot spot around the world. I like the phrase "trust but verify"........

Don't blame me...I voted for YOU!
