Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

About the appointment by Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate, somebody big is lying, big-time. It is either the governor or Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Last week, Reid declared that he would not permit Burris, the African-American elder statesman of Illinois politics, to fill Obama's seat, or even to enter the Senate chamber, though no one had suggested Burris is other than an honorable and able public man.

Reid declared Burris "a tainted appointment," not because of any ethical defect of his, but because of the cloud over the governor who had appointed him.

Saturday, however, the Chicago Sun-Times reported, in a story sourced to the governor's office, that Reid personally phoned Blago on Dec. 3, six days before the scandal broke, to urge him not to name any of three high-profile candidates for the Obama seat.

On the Reid blacklist were, according to the source, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Rep. Danny Davis and State Senate President Emil Jones.

What do the three have in common? All are black.

Reid reportedly urged Blagojevich to pick either state Veterans Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth or Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

What do these women have in common? Neither is black.

As Prince Riley, a senior consultant to Burris, told Politico, "It's interesting that all those who are viable are white women and the ones who are unacceptable are black men."

It sure is, Prince -- if the story is true.

Confronted by David Gregory on "Meet the Press," Reid called Blago a liar and said he thinks Jackson would make a fine senator. Said Reid:

"This is part of Blagojevich's cloud. He's making all this up. I had a conversation with him. I don't remember what was in the conversation, other than the generalities that I just talked about. I didn't tell him who not to appoint. He's making all this up ..."

However, this brings us back to the contents of a conversation Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel reportedly had with Blago, also before U.S. Attorney Pat Fitzgerald busted the governor for allegedly hawking Obama's seat to the highest bidder.

Valerie Jarrett, Barack's confidante, had by then withdrawn.

Rahm reportedly told Blago he should choose from one of three names: Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky. Rahm then reportedly called back to add Lisa Madigan.

All four are white. Conspicuously missing from Rahm's list were all four black candidates: Jackson, Davis, Jones and Burris.

Are Blago or his people all lying? The truth is on Fitzgerald's tapes.

As Gregory pressed Reid, whose re-election in 2010 in Nevada is no sure thing, the majority leader suggested his feet were not so set in concrete and he may be open to a deal with Burris:

"I'm an old trial lawyer. There's always room to negotiate."

The deal being talked about is that Reid may let Burris take the seat if he agrees not to run in 2010. For the fear Democrats have is that no black male in Illinois can for sure hold Barack's seat.

Now, if any such deal is what Reid has in mind, one hopes Burris will slap it away. He has as much right to be in the Senate as Harry Reid does. And for Burris to enter that body as a professed lame-duck would mean that not only would he be last in seniority, he will have neutered himself. Reporters need to get to the bottom of this. Did Reid and Rahm convey to Blagojevich that Jackson, Davis, Jones and Burris were all unacceptable? Or is the governor's office putting out malicious lies against Rahm and Reid? Again, the truth is on the tapes. And the ball is in Blago's court, as Reid has all but openly called him a liar.

Incidentally, can one imagine the firestorm if Mitch McConnell, GOP leader, was reported to have called members of the Republican National Committee and told them all the candidates for party chair were acceptable, except for Ken Blackwell of Ohio and Michael Steele of Maryland, the two African-Americans?

McConnell would suffer the fate of Trent Lott, the GOP leader who in 2002 had to resign his post over a toast to 100-year-old Strom Thurmond. Lott observed that Strom had run for president on the Dixiecrat ticket in 1948, that Mississippi had voted for him and that, had Strom been elected, we might not have all these problems.

Lott was maliciously accused of endorsing the segregationist stand Strom had run on, 54 years before, though Lott never voted for segregation, and Strom's voting record had been consistent for decades with that of other Southern conservatives.

Al Gore, whose father, Sen. Albert Gore Sr., stood beside Strom and voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, called Lott's remarks racist and urged his censure by the Senate.

Let us see if the media, and his colleagues, are as tough on Reid as they were on Lott.

No Surprise
The Demoncrats have been openly racist through out the entire OBuma campaign. From Bill Clinton to Obuma himself playing the race card on McCain. This is nothing new. The people are too stupid to look up history and see that the roots of the Demoncrats were in Southern racism going back decades. Now that the South has turned mostly Republican, they are painted as the neanderthal bigots. The Media will not pursue any of this, as is their practice on any Demoncrat who clearly shows racism. Reid should have been thrown out of Congress several years ago with his illegal real estate deals, which were again passed over by the Media at the time. The man is an idiot and runs a ignorant/corrupt and clueless Senate. I total disgrace to the people of Nevada, who are too stupid to vote this clown out of office.

Reid is corrupt as any IL pol.
His rotten land deals in NV and Las Vegas have only been aired on cons. sites. The MSM have seen no evil nor heard no evil, as usual.

Interesting, Reid challenges Burris (there are no black Senators, and Bush appointed more minorities to ALL positions than Bubba in his 8 contaminated years), but Chucky Schumer announces Franken has won MN, when the recount has been a manipulated joke and the court cases will go one for years.

If Franken is seated, the entire Rep. delegation in the Sen. should walk out. The Dems. do not have enough votes to pass anything without Rep. defections. Also, if Burris isn't seated, the House Black Caucus should walk out.

As to Blago and Fitzgerald, the *prosecutor* blabbed early and often, polluted any jury pool, created unnecessary and defeating negative publicity for his case, and will never get an indictment, let alone a conviction.

He says he now needs 3 mons. more. I bet in 3 mons., Fitz announces he doesn't have enough evidence to go forward, and whatever Big Bro O said or is implicated in on those tapes simply vanishes into the night.

This Is A No-Brainer, Pat
The governor has the right to appoint almost anyone to the Senate and Dirty Harry has no standing, just a weak mouth. I guess it might just have been a misunderstanding by those who support Reid - and he was misquoted, for sure. I am fascinated whenever Reid and Pelosi appear together on the political stage with the cameras rolling and the mics on - she speaks first and he listens. Burris and Franken will be among friends and comparable levels of intelligent folks in Washington. An easy fit.

it should be a state matter.
My understanding is Blagojevich has not even been indicted.

The government is still conducting its investigation.

Burris is under no ethical cloud to my knowledge.

Reid is wrong here.

The process in Illinois has decided upon Burris, altho I don't think the Illinois Secretary of State has officially certified Burris for the Senate seat...and maybe legally and technically that is required.

But the Secretary should so certify, unless he can specifically assert wrongdoing occurred in the selection process.

I don't like the idea of Reid, or either political party or member of the Senate, taking it upon himself(themselves)to thwart the process of a state in its decision as to who represents it...as long as that candidate is not in violation of qualifications outlined in the Constitution.

I also don't like the GOP senators deeming the Minnesota process to be unfair, and threatening to filibuster and not to allow Franken to be seated.

Where in the hell do these pompous, self-righteous senators(democrats or republicans) get the gall to thwart the will and decision of the state regarding its representatives, in the absence of any crime being proven?

Sen. gets the gall over MN because
the *election* is a fraud.

Coleman won on election night and for the next six weeks, altho' consistently his original plurality in the many hundreds was whittled away by changes in reporting from Dem. counties right through Christmas, but he held a majority win in the Sen. race until last week. Only one day did Franken have any majority, and only after double ballot counting and sec. of state's injudicious rulings, which produced a prolonged and irregular process no candidate should have to face.

Then, in the matter of absentee ballots which had been discarded for cause, the MN Sup. Ct. let the Franken campaign (see the gov's radio address last Sat.) decide which ballots to look at. Did they look at absentee ballots from Rep. districts? No. Also, military ballots were summarily dismissed, an aspersion against citizens in uniform as well as Coleman.

The Sen., through the Const., has the right to determine which reps. it seats, and both House and Sen. have refused state results, even sometimes when those state results are not challenged but have been close. In a NH case, a new election was required.

If the Sen. seats Franken (it won't as he won't be certified by MN; he can't be certified if Coleman starts a legal challenge within 7 days and the challenge will be filed today), the Reps. should forget filibuster and just walk out. The Dems. in the Sen. cannot function without Rep. defections.

If Burris isn't seated, the House black caucus should walk out (they've done so before), and then Congress will be paralyzed, and we'll be saved from any more debt or regulation proscribing out lives.

renny
Coleman is not prevailing, and so it must be due to "fraud".

Congratulations, you are right at home with Lefties who thought the "fraudulent" USSC decision gave the Presidency to Bush in 2000.

I will defer to the state officials overseeing the process in Minnesota over the opinions of posters unhappy with the possibility Franken may emerge victorious.

And thus far the process in Minnesota, after two and even three recounts, is beginning to conclude Franken is the winner.

If the national body, the United States Senate, gets to abrogate the will of the states by refusing to seat their representatives, what does that say about the idea of states rights?

It makes a mockery of states rights.

jerabaub
"Coleman is not prevailing, and so it must be due to "fraud"."

Let me turn this around, if I may.

Franken didn't win the initial ballot count, so it must be due to "miscounted ballots".

So, instead of conceding defeat like any decent person, Franken contests the election and drags Minnesota politics through the mud. Any person who truly wished to serve his or her state wouldn't act this way; it only serves that person, and conversely has a negative impact on the people they claim to want to serve.

THAT is a mockery of state's rights.
Also we fought a war that determined that the United States has sovereignty over the rights of the individual states.

Don't Blame me Pat......
I voted for you...........

Release the tapes
Blago and Reid are known for their craftiness and ability to imply untruths as facts. The only one with dignity is this mess is Burris.

Harry Reid
is one of the most irritatingly obnoxious individuals on the hill! Everytime that peepsqueek opens his mouth I want to just throw up! His Bush Bashing the last 2 years had reached such a feverpitch that I sworn the man was going to throw a gasket..Nevadians should be ashamed to have such a loser representing them..Unfortunately I would believe Blago over this sad little excuse for a man

jerabaub
writes, "And thus far the process in Minnesota, after two and even three recounts, is beginning to conclude Franken is the winner."

Do you honestly think that the more recounting is done the more accurate the result will be? I would think the opposite. The changes we have seen so far defy reason and statistics but, we should defer to those state officials that discovered all the additional ballots for Franken not counted the first time huh. The whole process was so blatant and stunk so bad. How many recounts and undiscovered ballots does it take to taint an election? Go back and read your own words above.

USNBubblehead
Sorry, no $ale.

You faux righties get hysterical when the Gore crew resorted to the courts to determine the election in the Florida 2000 presidential race, yet now are clamoring for judicial intervention to overturn the voters in Minnesota.

It was Gore who originally sought out the "remedy" of the courts on the Florida election brouhaha in 2000, just like it is the Coleman camp who is seeking out the court "remedy" on the Minnesota matter.

In 2000, the ultimate decision by the U.S. Supremes went to Bush, but it was still Gore and his crew which seized upon recourse to the courts.

Looks like you guys can live with judicial activism when it goes your way.

And when it does not go your way, you start bawling just like the Lefties.

(1) Any semblance of decency Dhimmicruds had vanished in 2000 when Boreacle decided Bush had stolen election
(2) last I checked, Minnechottai politics was muddier than muskeg--shown by the state's election of kooky Jesse as governor and Looie Farakhan's puppet Ellison as Congressman

George Wallace Reid
Dingy Harry and his merry band of Dimwatts have no problem in approving the court decision that held that Denny's Restaurant MUST give a seat to a black man, but a seat in the Whitedom of the Senate? Hell, no!

Al Franken: YIPPEE!!

Caroline Kennedy: Oh, yes! The return of Camelot.

Roland Burris: OMFG!

Enough already with Dingy Harry and his contempt for the "Smelly Tourists" that pay his salary. We all need to start sending him white sheets so that he can don appropriate apparel.

As they would say at Denny's: Check Please! (or rather, I want a refund on the krap that was served.)

Al Franken is Corrupt
Doesn't anyone check the facts anymore?.The man ( and I use that term "loosely") has moved to several states and ran for office and lost ..then leaving that state and NOT paying employees and not paying his taxes.I am amazed that none of those states have put this man in prison yet alone elect him to office. His corruption makes Blago look like an Angel. So WHY are people letting him get away with this crap?Corruption in ..honesty out?

I'm Just Wild About Harry.....
The little weasel showed his mettle today when he refused to seat Roland Burris. The little racist land-dealer stood his ground and did what he said he would do.

Don't you just admire him? I thought he would back down for fear some minorities would turn their backs on him. Oh,how foolish of me...it matters not how Democrats treat minorities, they will forgive them. They've done it for years.

jerabaub
You make many assumptions. I am not a Republican (or anything else for that matter) and not a "right winger", unless having a good moral compass puts me in that category.
And to your point: in both cases it was the losing Democrat that dragged out the process - no sale indeed!

Epidemic of Stupidity
Just read the news as it pertains to the comings and goings in washington, DC. It is not just Harry Reid, it's not just Nancy Pelosi or many of the suspect Obama appointments; it's not just the ill-conceived bailouts or the totally inept SEC, it's the continuing absurdities given birth by both parties.

My question is, do we just elect stupid people or is there something in the water in DC that systematically kills off brain cells? Are these people who work in Washington stupid when they get there or do they just grow progressively stupid. It's not just elected officials, it seems that Washington attracts the worst and dumbest amoing us.

I'm convinced that Government Service is the last resort for men and women too stupid, or too lazy, to survive in a competitive free market environment where people are judged by their accomplishments and competence.

Just watch the news and stand in awe as the tsunami of ignorance and incompetence flood the land. Face it, we have a truly dysfunctional Fedewral Government and Obama's selections don't bode well for the future. How about them CIA Director and Homeland Security selections, real competence there, NOT!

OR, maybe it's just that they are all Lawyers, hmmmmmmm............

Harry Reid and Pelosi
have a combined I.Q. of the amount of cash in my wallet- $17

Imagining the firestorm
One facet you missed, Pat...
Reid is a Mormon. Imagine what the press would be chomping on if a Mormon Republican were caught 'discriminating' against black nominees?

Hypocrisy, thy name is Democrat!

Harry Reid
Is the worst kind of scum to ever inhabit - no, INFEST the Senate! Is it the Mob in Nevada that gets him elected?

Obama Crowning--A Comedy of Errors 1

The Democrat Party, led by Harry Reid, and Barack Husssein Obama himself, have assured that this Inauguration will be the ONLY inauguration in American history taking place in a undenialbly tainted atmosphere, surrounded by the stench of corruption, Party infighting, un-Constitutionality, and personal demagogery.

Poetic justice.

The candidate of "change and hope" has had, in the month-and-a-half leading up to his "coronation" been involved, either directly or indirectly, in erasing the notion of either being the guarantor of "change", with his selection of Cabinet members who are almost to a man or woman, old [white] Clintonista retreads; hardly "change we can believe in".

His claims of instituting "a transparent and open administration" [the so-called "hope" portion of his empty rhetorical campaign promises] was the very first casulty, as he and his transition team [with the expected collusion of the MSM & their controllers on high] has skirted the issue of their obvious [and, as yet unrevealed] involvement with the Blagojevich Senate seat maneuvering.

Now, it seems, that the grandstanding of Harry Reid [with Obama's backing] has revealed another flaw in the Democrat facade of propriety, as together, they have sought to deny a black male [not only Burris, but others, including Jesse Jackson, Jr.] access to the Senate seat Obama vacated in his being (s)elected president.

Plantation politics [Democrat-style].

Add to this mix, Obama's appointing the Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, who is under an investigation of his own mirroring Blagojevich's, to head up the Dept. of Commerce, of all things!

Obama Crowning--A Comedy of Errors 2

Now let this all simmer with Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, whose confirmation hearings may reveal additional conflicts of interest and suspect [if not illegal] dealings concerning her and her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton.

Now, stir in 2 Democrat Senators who will not be seated, one being denied his legal seat, illegally; the other, attempting to steal a seat, illegally. And the illegal one is the one the Democrats want, while barring the legally appointed one!!

Corruption, Racism, Criminality, and Democrat grandstanding assure that the Barack Hussein Obama "coronation" will highlight the Comedy of Errors that is just a preview of more to come.

Harry Reid
I've heard reports that Reid tried to get involved in the New York appointment and now we hear the same about Illinois. Who does he think he is, telling the people of any state who should represent them?

Best Votes a photocopier can cast.

What is really distrubing is in Minn. they actually photocopied ballots then counted them as separate votes to get Frankin to win.

Then after they were caught, they investigated and said, "we think" but we are not sure if any of the duplicates were counted.

So now we see the weakness in optical ballots.
Corrupt election officials can photocopy them and slip them in among the original ballots.

Pols
Blago, Reid, Bush, Franken, Gore, McCain....each is more despicable than the last. It matters little who of these imbeciles hold office since they are all essentially alike. They are power-hungry, ill-prepared, egotistical traitors who care nothing about America. They seek only power and when they get it they are so paranoid of losing it, they seek even more of it.

They, for the most part have never held a real job and couldn`t if they had to. They know almost nothing of the real world and yet they aspire to control every aspect of our lives.

WE THE PEOPLE have given over our country and our future to these corrupt incompetents and it is already too late to retrieve it.

Goodbye USA.

The key point in all this
I don't know who is lying here but the real answer is most likely all the above. We are all familiar now with Blagojevich's tendency and Harry Reid, well this guy isn't right in the head in my opinion.

The bigger point here and the area where the notorious Majority Leader may have spoken a modicum of truth is his concern over "holding" the seat in 2010. What does that say about the Democrat Party when they place more emphasis on winning the seat than on the qualifications of the candidate?

Given the dismal performance of all in Congress but especially Democrats, I think that question answers itself. As Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid would say, "who are those guys?" More appropriate, "who do they think they are?"

Harry Houdini
This arrogant little man has let his title go to his head. He had his 15 minutes of fame today, but he will back down before the week is out,in my opinion.

These Democrats are imploding right before our eyes, but do the Republicans have enough moxy to show them up? Of course not. They must play nice. Good little boys and girls.

Thx Pat.
I've heard this expression for years: "YOU CAN'T
MAKE THIS STUFF UP""!! And Now I truly believe it..I'm getting old--seen *Jimmy Who*, *Tricky Dick* and many more come and go, but the current BATCH absolutely defies LOGIC as I know it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Roy
An old country saying "That takes the rag off the bush".

Rowley
Can't say I've ever heard that one before..I'll remember that..
Just remember, DON'T GET TOO EXCITED!! I truly

Roy
Being from Ga.,I've got dozens of 'old sayings'. Not much to get excited about though.
