Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The risk John McCain took last Friday is comparable to the 72-year-old ex-fighter pilot knocking back two shots and flying his F-16 under the Golden Gate Bridge.

McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his co-pilot was the biggest gamble in presidential history. As of now, it is paying off, big-time.

The sensational selection in Dayton, Ohio, stepped all over the big story from Denver -- Barack Obama's powerful address to 85,000 cheering folks in Mile High Stadium, and 35 million nationally, a speech that vaulted him from a 2-point deficit early in the week to an 8-point margin. Barack had never before reached 49 percent against McCain.

As the Democrats were being rudely stepped on, however, Palin ignited an explosion of enthusiasm among conservatives, Evangelicals, traditional Catholics, gun owners and Right to Lifers not seen in decades.

By passing over his friends Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge, and picking Palin, McCain has given himself a fighting chance of winning the White House that, before Friday morning, seemed to be slipping away. Indeed, the bristling reaction on the left testifies to Democratic fears that the choice of Palin could indeed be a game-changer in 2008.

Liberals howl that Palin has no experience, no qualifications to be president of the United States. But the lady has more executive experience than McCain, Joe Biden and Obama put together.

None of them has ever started or run a business as Palin did. None of them has run a giant state like Alaska, which is larger than California and Texas put together. And though Alaska is not populous, Gov. Palin has as many constituents as Nancy Pelosi or Biden.

She has no foreign policy experience, we are told. And though Alaska's neighbors are Canada and Russia, the point is valid. But from the day she takes office, Palin will get daily briefings and sit on the National Security Council with the president and secretaries of state, treasury and defense.

She will be up to speed in her first year.

And her experience as governor of Alaska, dealing with the oil industry and pipeline agreements with Canada, certainly compares favorably with that of Barack Obama, a community organizer who dealt in the mommy issues of food stamps and rent subsidies.

Where Obama has poodled along with the Daley Machine, Palin routed the Republican establishment, challenging and ousting a sitting GOP governor before defeating a former Democratic governor to become the first female and youngest governor in state history.

For his boldness in choosing Palin, McCain deserves enormous credit. He has made an extraordinary gesture to conservatives and the party base, offering his old antagonists a partner's share in his presidency. And his decision is likely to be rewarded with a massive and enthusiastic turnout for the McCain-Palin ticket. Rarely has this writer encountered such an outburst of enthusiasm on the right.

In choosing Palin, McCain may also have changed the course of history as much as Ike did with his choice of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan did with his choice of George H.W. Bush. For should this ticket win, Palin will eclipse every other Republican as heir apparent to the presidency and will have her own power base among Lifers, Evangelicals, gun folks and conservatives -- wholly independent of President McCain.

A traditional conservative on social issues, Palin has become, overnight, the most priceless political asset the movement has. Look for the neocons to move with all deliberate speed to take her into their camp by pressing upon her advisers and staff, and steering her into the AEI-Weekly Standard-War Party orbit.

Indeed, if McCain defeats Barack, 2012 could see women on both national tickets, and given McCain's age and the possibility he intends to serve a single term, women at the top of both -- Sarah vs. Hillary.

The arrival of Palin on the national scene, with her youth, charisma and vitality, probably also portends a changing of the guard in Washington.

With Republicans having zero chance of capturing either House, and but a slim chance of avoiding losses in both, a Vice President Palin, with her reputation as a rebel and reformer, would surely inspire similar revolts in the Republican caucuses.

As Thomas Jefferson said, from time to time, a little rebellion in the political world is as necessary as storms in the physical.

The Palin nomination could backfire, but it is hard to see how. She has passed her first test, her introduction to the nation, with wit and grace. And the Obama-Biden ticket, having already alienated millions of women with the disrespecting of Hillary, is unlikely to start attacking another woman whose sole offense is that she had just been given the chance to break the glass ceiling at the national level.

Her nomination, which will bring the Republican right home, also frees up McCain to appeal to moderates and liberals, which has long been his stock in trade.

With his selection of Sarah Palin, John McCain has not only shaken up this election, he may have helped shape the future of the United States -- and much for the better.

When did you write this !!??!!

"Gamble"... "Neocon" ....???

What Gamble?

Republicans (Conservatives) have literally begged for a Women and/or Minority candidate.
We pray for a future with a President Palin in it... And a Minority President. Another put-down Patrick?

Neocon? ...Here comes 'The Real Patrick'.

Throwing the term "Neocon" out there is Pat's way of saying, "Wait till my next article, I'm going to knee-cap Palin".

Sure you throw 'a little' praise out now Patrick... But, McCain's choice just burns your rear... And in typical Liberal fashion, your just warming us up... "Come a little closer" you say... "so Patrick can slap you again like a battered wife".

Yeah Patrick, the MSM praised Palin for about 2 minutes too... Now look at the devils stabbing her with pitch-forks.

I'm not fooled!

Atta Boy Pat
I've been complaining lately about how one could hardly guess Pat was not part of the mass majority media - but now he's reminded me he's one of us. I think he's correct in his assessment, too. Good for John and Pat - and Sarah. gene, longmont, CO

Well said Patrick
Palin routed the Republican establishment, challenging and ousting a sitting GOP governor before defeating a former Democratic governor to become the first female and youngest governor in state history.

=====

Ignore Carlos

Good eye Patrick and as always you speak honestly

I had made up my mind I was not going to vote McCain.
This has changed my mind cause he gave me something I can support.

You said it for millions of us with this:
"Rarely has this writer encountered such an outburst of enthusiasm on the right."

I am so happy with Palin
I am very happy with Palin and agree that she gives McCain a fighting chance to save the nation from an Obamanation disaster.
Too bad Pat just couldn't resist his usual neocon-bashing in an otherwise fine column.

Right, as usual
You are right as usual Pat. Sarah Palin is a real person. She is one of us...a died in the wool conservative. And I don't think she will be a yes woman to McCain.

WITH OR WITHOUT PALIN...OBAMA WILL BE ..
...DESTROYED...Obama's Summer Of Love is "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING"...a rediculous Liberal FANTASY...a fairy story...a silly schoolgirl crush that is over in the cool days of fall!!
Dukakis was 17 points ahead at this time in 88 and still went down in flames..after the Convention,Mccain will be ahead and uncatchable!
The fraud Obama is decomposing before our very eyes, as SUNLIGHT IS THE BEST DISINFECTANT...the fantasy of the imposter Obama is coming to a crashing end, like a house of cards...it never was more than a political PONZI SCEAM!!
OBAMA is the most dangerous fraud since HUEY LONG and will be lucky to win 15 states in November,...the blue collar conservative Dems and provincial Rednecks will ride to the Republics aid and utterly DESTROY the MENNACE of OBAMA!!This time, next year, the imposter Obama will be forgotten about like last years women's fashion!!

That was Then, This is Now
"McCain has given himself a fighting chance of winning the White House that, before Friday morning, seemed to be slipping away."

But back then you were telling us how great he was doing. Now you say he was on the edge of losing then, but is doing great now. Were you lying then, or are you lying now?

It's like the lie you've been telling about Palin having more people in her constituency than Pelosi or Biden. You're completely wrong on Biden, and may well be wrong about Pelosi; the two numbers are very close.

And, of course, the Alaska Independence Party will bring this whole charade to a close.

PETA
Palin (Shoots &)Eats Tasty Animals.
Moose and the Left-Wing / Main Stream(?) Media.
Who's her next tasty dinner going to be?

Right as rain, Patrick
Women have long needed a conservative role model. Palin can show them what REAL, genuine compassion is, and at the same time do something Democrats are incapable of: THink critically.

At this point, many women voters will not listen to anything a man has to say, regardless of how right he might be. There is a giant vacuum out there waiting to be filled with common sense and practical solutions. And by their nature, those two elements don't have anything to do with the Democratic Party.

This could be the start of something big, sweetheart.

Yo Nick in Austin! I think
you are on to something. I personally think the "ole Silver Fox" has hit a Grand Slammer when he selected Sarah Palin as his Veep. Unfortunately we have some conservatives who don't want John McCain to win and are trying their best to smear Sarah. :-(

Some deceitful comments in here...
Population of Nancy Pelosi's 8th District in California: 639,000
Delaware's Population: 865,000 giving each Senator a vote for 432,500 constituents
Population of Alaska: 683,000

So yes, Pat was correct in his statement. He did not lie, the commenter lied.

For those who are upset about his Neocon statement, get over it. Neocons have robbed conservatism of its legitimacy. Once reflecting the philosophy of Washington, Bastiet and Coolidge, Neocons have painted conservatism in shades of Big Government that would make those fine gentlemen roll over in their graves. No difference in my eyes between Neocons and socialists...they all love Big Government.

Buchanan is no shill...
...for Republicans. I saw him on one of the other stations tonight and he stood strong for Palin. Sounds like her candidacy has really energized him.

Teddy Roosevelt was a governor for two years, but was pulled into the presidential race because of his feisty ways. He turned out to be one of the greatest presidents in history, busting many, many trusts.

I apologize in advance
The Democrats "Palin" comparison.

The new TR?
An avid outdoorsperson, fierce politician, and neophyte governor is picked for VP. McCain has stated that his political hero was Teddy Roosevelt, and his running-mate may be cut from the same mold.

Nick in Austin has something here.

America's Destruction & God's Wrath
Vote GOP if you love your party; vote Constitution Party if you love your country. Both foolish, patently biblically ignorant political parties that dominate DC politics as usual are destroying America by continuing to divide the land of Israel. Continuing to elect these blithering idiots will be the death of us all; GOD IS NOT MOCKED!!! Ever since George H.W. Bush in 1991, America has been in God's crosshairs for dividing the land of Israel, God's territory, and she continues to be judged by Almighty God to this day for continuing these same policies of suicidal destruction as "American Foreign Policy". The massively destructive hurricanes, the massive Midwestern floods, the unprecdented number of destructive tornadoes, the uncontrollable California fires, and the Northridge Earthquake are NOT coincidences. hey all coincided with US foreign policy blunders seeking to divide and actually dividing the land of Israel.

Just don't let the new Veep go
hunting with the current Veep!

...And This Just In
You have to love how McShamnesty is so responsibly "gambling" with his clearly unvetted VP pick. There could be some Troopergate dirt coming out just days before the election.

Adam 10:13 PM EST
"Population of Nancy Pelosi's 8th District in California: 639,000
Delaware's Population: 865,000 giving each Senator a vote for 432,500 constituents
Population of Alaska: 683,000"

I looked those numbers up too, so I know you're using the 2007 estimate for Alaska and the 2000 census value for CA-08. Apples and oranges, or at least gaia and granny smith apples. As I said, the numbers are close.

Senators are elected by the entire state, not half of it. I wish you right-wingers would learn how your government works.

Take Back the Government
I basically agree with you, Sarah Palin is offered to bring back the base, without it he cannot win.
And I do like her record.

I joined the Constitution Party 3 years ago due to the neocon issues and "compassionate" conservative nonsense, the ones Pat is not bashful to talk about.
I am glad he is not, he is 100 percent right.

But if McCain is going to go half way to recognize the values many like me hold dear, I can find a way to support that as its as good as I have ever got from the republicans anyway, since RR.

We will have to fight him over the border issues through Congress, its the best shot we got for now.
He cannot do anything by himself about that anyway.

I wish I could see a way to win on all our points, but I do not.

Do not worry about this

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/j ohnmccain/2667214/John-McCains-running-mate-Sarah-Palin-was -in-Alaskan-independence-party.html

A political hit piece, she has been vetted by 75 men, top men.

Yeah, you right-wingers...
... like that Electoral College thing! Learn how that works, will ya!

Pat Was Pulled Out of His Closet
for the express purpose of convincing Conservatives in the GOP to give up the fight. Apparently, Pat, too, has given up on principle, if he ever had any. I wonder how much he was paid to write this article. Why should any of us be surprised? Pat was Reagan's speechwriter and now he's a paid Fox News Analyst; he's just another DC insider who will NEVER learn. I wonder what Jerome Corsi and Richard Viguerie think of Pat. He's just another political whore and GOP fearmonger like all the rest. It's amazing how money corrupts even common sense.

Mountain Rose LOL
Veeps hunting!

the deceipt continues
"Senators are elected by the State"

Incorrect! "2" senators are elected by the state.

Any way you try to frame it, doesn't matter how large a percentage of the population votes for the senator, the constituency is half the state, that's precisely how government does, and was intented to, work.

The total divided by two is half (bet you didn't that). The senators don't vote in pairs you know...they're not bobsy twins...they don't have to duel to figure out whose vote counts if they disagree. If they disagree, then half population is represented on one platform and half on another. You don't have to even know how government works; understanding simple math would help you here.

The numbers are good enough. You brought up the word "liar" and indeed the deceipt stems from you. You had no ground to stand on in that argument.

F-16
Why in the world would Buchanan refer to McCain's F-16? McCain was a Navy attack pilot. He flew A-4s and, I'm sure, never flew an F-16 fighter, an Air Force airplane. The Navy has used some F-16s at TOPGUN school for fighter pilots, but, as I've said, McCain was not a fighter pilot. There's nothing in his biography about ever flying fighters, not to mention F-16s.

Sorry Pat, if you can't do better than that on subjects I happen to know about, I can't trust you anymore on subjects I know little or nothing about. You might think this is just a small thing, but military pilots know better. Loose with your references and facts - you just lost me as a reader.

Read the F-16 line again
This has nothing to do with not knowing anything about the subject; it has to do with not understanding what you read. No where did Buchanon say McCain flew an F-16 either in Vietnam nor in any other time period.

Nor did the type of aircraft used in the intentionally loose analogy have anything to do with the point being made. The issue of "F-16" or "A-4" is moot. How about just a really fast vehicle performing a risky maneuver while the piloted is intoxicated. Does that make the point better? No. Be concerned about details when it matters. If you don't know anything about the subject you can at least develop some critical thinking skills to help discern the point from the frill.

Then...
... you must like McCain/Palin, since Obama/Biden say either anything or everything depending on which speech or sub-committee hearing you attend.

If only Johnny would shuck the neocons.
I think Palin was an inspirational choice.

At this point, the only possible storm cloud on her horizon is the troopergate charge.

She was never going to appeal to those women who strongly favor abortion, but she will nonetheless appeal to millions of women...and to the extent the Democrats attack her, she may benefit in much the same way Hillary benefited from what some Democratic party women regarded as unfair attacks upon her.

"Look for the neocons to move with all deliberate speed to take her into their camp by pressing upon her advisers and staff, and steering her into the AEI-Weekly Standard-War Party orbit", so says Pat Buchanan.

THAT is the reason I may not vote for McCain.

This neocon interventionism...this compulsive psychosis and messianic mindset to meddle in the affairs of others...is exemplified on the domestic front by nanny-state governmental intrusions, and on foreign affairs by an arrogance that deems it knows best what types of governance and societies the peoples of the world must adopt.

It is the exact opposite of genuine conservatism, and owes its intellectual lineage to "progressive" neo-Wilsonian idealism..with its dogooder utopianism.

Johnny's Girl
I heard McCain say during the primary election debates that he believed in evolution (not creation that his new girl believes in). She is a Pentecostal (she believes that speaking in tongues is the first in a series of gifts of the Spirit that Pentecostals receive in hopes of attaining the ultimate gift, the gift of prophecy). She is also a dispensationalist (aka a futurist who believes that Jesus is yet to return in judgment on an apostate Israel). Unless Johnny has been converted since last Spring, it appears to me like he and Palin are "unequally yoked." To me, it looks like everybody in this election are playing games with the electorate. McCain is just trying to tickle everyone's ears using religion to get votes. Once elected (if our vote counts anymore), both McCain or Obama will forget their "religion" issues and get back to their common agenda which is Globalism, where the U.S. will ultimately suffer no matter who gets elected. By the way, Israel was cast it's final judgment in AD70. It was not in existence for 1878 years until 1948 when the U.N. reinstated it as a nation. Think about it.

Tired of all the liberal cr@p?
Stop by my blog and read "The Audacity of Victory."

Forget the libs and their cr@p.

They can scream all they want, but when the smoke clears, we'll be the audacious victors.

Let's have a loud HOORAH!

Mr. Buchanan,,
You are one honest and wise cote.

Hope you continue to drive the nutty Jews that scorn you to frenzies until Kingdom come.

Mr. Buchanan puts it into perspective
Any criticism of Sarah Palin must be made in the ocntext of comparison to Obama/ Biden.

On her own, I wouldn't vote for her either.

Adam, the point and the frill
I understand and appreciate the difference between the point and the frill, and generally will agree with Buchanan, as I do on his point in this case. But, to me, details, even in the frill are important. These writers on the national scene owe it to themselves and the rest of us to get their details right. As I suggested, they damage their credibility on subjects unknown to the reader when they stumble on subjects known the reader.

I stand by my post.

By the way, although he would probably understand Buchanan's ignorance on pilot distinctions, McCain, an ex-attack pilot, would not appreciate being referred to as an "ex-fighter pilot". No pilot who understands fighter pilot psychology wants that label.

Alaska
Sarah reminds me of another person from a small, sparsely populated state who ran for the office of the White House - Abraham Lincoln.

Sarah Palin is an excellent candidate,
too bad she isn't an Independent.

The GOP is struggling to hold power. This power struggle is now the basis for our elections, as the two major parties have long ago abandoned service to the nation in favor of power. Partisanship rather than leadership is the method for securing power. Innovative and creative legislation is beyond the ability of the two parties to comprehend.

This is not an attack on Mrs. Palin. To her credit, she challenged and beat the corrupt good old boy network, but we would be wise to heed the warnings. The 'same old same old' phonies may well try to hold her back and push her give in to the go along crowd.

The way to secure freedom for the future is to reject the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda that would have us continue to vote the lesser of two evils, which is exactly what John McCain is. Too bad that Mrs. Palin is being suckered in, but maybe we will gain something if her accomplishments help to wake up the rest of the nation to the scam that the elites have perpetrated.

The answer to our nation's future and the challenges ahead is to break the hold on power by the two major parties. Only an Independent President can do that. Should Mrs. Palin ever reach the Presidency, maybe she would start the process of restoring Constitutional self-government to the nation. Maybe, but not if she remains in the clutches of the corrupt GOP.

If you are interested in seeing how the elites have stolen our inheritance, I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Thanks, Joe

Take Back the Government
Take your medication please. Oh and the land of Israel if you agree with the Bible would include all of Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza as well as parts of Syria. So the US should go to war so Lebanon can be forced into Israel because God wants this--blah!

Hey, T.B.G. if you want fell free to go there and fight your personal war against Hezbollah and see how that works for you, since it is God's will, Hezbollah shouldn't have a chance against such a find Christian Soldier such as yourself.

Kurt
He also engaged in various unconstitutional acts, laid waste to an entire region, allowed his army to do what today would be considered crimes against humanity and was responsible for the death of the 10th Amendment and set the stage for the nation of big government and the crushing of state rights and the end of Federalism. The last thing the US needs is another Lincoln! If anything it needs another Grover Cleveland.

Take back
The Alaskan Independence Party is not per se a secessionist movement but a major political party in Alaska. Some members have supported independence or joining either Canada or joining part of Canada, but others have not supported this and simply demand more control over Alaska and its resources by Alaskans instead of the all-powerful imperial Federal government. The key point is that the people of Alaska get a vote over the issue something it was denied in 1958 to become independent, a commonwealth within the US or statehood--something other US territories have been given such as Puerto Rico.

There is no evidence I have seen that Palin has been a member of the AIP, but many of its views are in line with main stream GOP thought of state rights and local control and in-line with the sagebrush revolution that was supported by many Western Republicans from the 1980s onward.

Her husband was a member though and she has addressed the AIP convention as governor.

Johnny's Girl
Let us talk about a more likely scenario. Though first we could address this new darling on the scene.

Buchanan fantasizes how McCain will die and she
will take over and then how the Evangelicals
will take over the nation and we will be at
one with God, if not the rest of the world.

Buchanan. I think that you should realize one
thing before this little fantasy of yours goes
too far. Abortion. The vast majority of the
citizenry of the US want abortion to be an
option. If you write thou shalt not in gold
in the constitution, abortion will continue
as it does every place else in the Western World. I am not making a judgment about that
here. I am simply stating the fact. I would
also remind you that a whole lot of people
find Evangelical tactics obnoxious, right there on a level with telemarketers.

Second, what is much more likely if McCain gets
elected: The Reagan thing will set it. We
didn't know it then, but we know it now.
Alzheimers was beginning to set in by mid second term and by the end of his term, dear
Nancy was literally running the show.

Nancy was bad enough. Let's think about what
it might be to have the lovely (I am rich, I
was a drug addict, I steal people's husbands,
I would smile if I hadn't had my face so tightly lifted) Mrs. McCain. Talk about
fantasies turning into nightmares.

Vote for someone who is energetic, who came up
the hard way, and became a huge success. Vote
for someone that young people can look up to and admire and who makes them eager to join
the voting public. Vote for someone who wants
to make change. Who is sick of the status quo,
who is tired beyond belief of the widening gap
between the rich and the poor, who believes that there are ways to power and greatness they
can be achieved without gunpowder, that talking
to your enemy is not only a good thing but a
crucial thing, who stands a chance of making
me feel good to be an American again.

Yes Obama

I checked the polls again
McCain is not ahead. Sorry.

yea right!
“BEHOLD! Wasilla City Hall, where the Honorable Sarah Palin was mayor and held the door open for the guy stocking the pepsi twice a month.”

I found this comment on

http://www.flickr.com/photos/djcn0te/319098225/in/set-72157 594414445112/

You can go to the site to see Wasilla city hall. LOL.

Steven
"Vote for someone who is energetic."

Mao was energetic. What counts is where that energy is directed.

"who came up the hard way"

Saddam came up the hard way. Again what matters is what you are going to do now, not what you went through years ago and what little Obama went through was nothing compared to the 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton.

"Vote for someone that young people can look up to and admire and who makes them eager to join the voting public."

The US has too many people voting as it is. There needs to be less people voting not more and especially among the American Idol Generation who know very little about anything that actually matters.

"Vote for someone who wants to make change. Who is sick of the status quo, who is tired beyond belief of the widening gap between the rich and the poor."

Mao and Hitler wanted change too--change is not always good. I bet Mao talked about the rich-poor gap too.

"who believes that there are ways to power and greatness they can be achieved without gunpowder, that talking to your enemy is not only a good thing but a crucial thing, who stands a chance of making me feel good to be an American again."

True, but sometimes gunpowder is required. Talking to your enemy only works if your enemy wants to talk to you and both want to make a deal. Reagan walked away at Reykjavik, the US and Japan talked through the summer and fall of 1941 and the only thing it lead to was Japan's decision to go to war.

Making you feel good is not why people should elect a leader.

Obama--yes, if you are young, stupid and/or a socialist.

Number44
Spoke to God this a.m.
Your wish is granted.

Pat on McCain and CatholicPalin
Thanks God! Now I, my family and friends know whom to vote for: McCain and Palin. We are all conservative Christian pro-lifers, pro-gunners, and God lovers. I believe McCain picked the right running mate through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. After McCain, Sarah will be the first woman President of the United States. The other woman aspiring to be president for a long time now has no chance, because she has already been exposed to the general public as an ambitious politician(never a statesman) who just wants to return to the White House after tasting the personal material benefits of the Executive Office for eight years. --Roland "Skull-ant-tea".

skull
If there is a God and to quote Confucius on this "If we do not know yet about life, how can we know about death?" Analects 11:11 no one really knows, but if there is I am pretty sure he is way too busy running the universe and everything to worry about who the GOP picked as the VP. Did God pick the Democrat's VP too? Does God only get involved in American politics or does he pick everyone's VP?

Embarrassing Memories of January 2008

Problem is Pat Buchanan of Sept. 2, 2008 forgot the critiical words of Pat Buchanan of Jan. 25, 2008, who wrote of "Johnny" McCain: "On the great controversies, McCain has sided as often with Democrats and the Big Media that pay him court as with conservatives."

But Buchanan is not alone in his flipflop towards McCain. Now he and his like thinkers are attempting to shift and keep the focus on Sarah Palin with a feverish rash of articles. It's quite obvious Buchanan and other Town Hall columnists -- and the McCain camp -- want to keep attention away from John McCain's "liberal" legislative efforts and longtime vulnerability: McCain's uncontrollable, incendiary temper.

A temper which Amanda Carpenter wrote about in her April 1, 2008 column, 'MCCAIN ADMITS TEMPER PROBLEM." In her 4/1/08 article, Carpenter wrote:

"Republican Sen. Thad Cochran (Miss.)., a Romney supporter, told the Boston Globe, 'THE THOUGHT OF A 'HOT HEADED' PRESIDENT McCAIN SENDS A COLD CHILL DOWN MY SPINE."

Also: "Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R.-Pa.), another Romney supporter, also made recorded robo-calls on behalf of the Romney campaign in which he said, “As a conservative I don’t agree with McCain on many issues and I DON'T THINK HE (McCAIN) HAS THE TEMPERAMENT AND LEADERSHIP ABILITY TO MOVE THE COUNTRY IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION."

Last January, Town Hall columnist Michelle Malkin referred to McCain as 'SHORT-FUSED" and a 'HOTHEAD."

Town Hall columnist Mona Charen wrote: "There is a strutting self-righteousness about McCain that goes hand in hand with a NITROGLYCERIN TEMPER."

Why would anyone want to give the opportunity to a "hothead" with a "short-fuse" and uncontrollable "nitroglycerin temper" to have his hand on the nuclear button?. The ultimate button.

Tim
For your analogy to work, it would be Hsiao Wan-chang (aka Vincent Siew) as he is Ma's VP or Su Tseng-chang who was Hsieh's running mate.

Since to Buddhists the world is illusionary, Buddha wouldn't be picking running mates.

If the Anti-Christ picked Biden does that mean Obama is the Anti-Christ?

Please take your asprin before tonight's
Dear Pat, get ready for the MSNBC onslaught against that wicked witch of the Northwest, Sarah Palin.

Here is what to expect to hear from MSNBC's illustrious panel of balanced commentators:

She is a threat to humanity. A terrible person because she aspires to national service having a family intact. She should be a stay at home mother. She has five children and one is disabled. She will be unable to perform the duties that Al Gore did for Clinton.

Oh well Pat, take two asprin and get a good night's sleep after they try to tar and feather that person who has the gall to be a feminist for life.

Palin has the Dems shaken, not stirred
The liberals are crapping their pants about the Palin pick. McCain picked an accomplished woman with strong convictions. And she's already gotten the conservative base energized. And the libs won't admit it, but those of them with a shred of self-honesty and intelligence are very, very afraid of the conservative base. As they should be -- Americans, by and large, are traditionalists and values-based. Americans, for the most part, are not liberals. Liberalism is an elitist club.

Obama crapped out with Plagiarizin' Joe Biden, an entrenched old-boy Washington liberal who got bounced back by the voters whenever he so much as though of seeking the White House.

Now, Obama and his slavish lib media propagandists have egg all over their collective face. If McCain/Palin get elected, it will change the Washington landscape -- and will leave the hypocritical lying leftists with nothing to sell but more of the same angry lying hypocrisy.

So the lib media have gotten busy trying to take her down, too stupid to realize they're destroying themselves in the process.

He does
Ma does annoy me, no he scares me would be a better description. And you are going to feel the same way if Obama wins. Of course at least I had the benefit of knowing Ma was going to win years in advance as thanks to Chen, the DPP candidate (Hsieh it turned out to be) had no chance. Obama is going to be more of a shock because you think McCain is going to win (as I do). We'll both be shocked and depressed if he doesn't and then you'll feel like me in regards to Ma.

Steven -- yet another Kool-aid gulper
Steven, you truly come across as a brainwashed out-of-touch Obama shill/acolyte. If you think "the vast majority of the
citizenry of the US" are pro-abortion, that statement alone shows how utterly and pathetically detached from reality you are.

Good luck in your alternative universe there, bub.

Your street-radical leftist affirmative-action uhh-uhh-articulate candidate stopped winning people over about two months ago. His limited experience includes a voting record that's so appalling even HE knows better than to talk about it -- as evidenced by the "above my pay grade" remark.

Not to mention all the skeletons in his closet which the lib media have been ignoring with grim determination.

You really think the Ayers/Wright/Rezko issues are safely tucked away? ROTF!

The debates promise to be very interesting.

Vision
Either Senator McCain himself, or someone around him, is a visionary. Governor Palin’s selection is an inspired and brilliant choice.

This decision has unified the base and it is the reason why Senator McCain will win. The base loves President Reagan and we perceive that kind of potential in Governor Palin.

I am very glad that you approve of her selection, but this decision was in no way a gamble.

nmi
You make some good points, but the fact of the matter is, like it or not the contest is between hothead McCain and smoooth talking Obama, so if you want to get into the game, you have to make your choice and whining about it won't make it go away.

Will D.C. taint Palin's conservativism?
As a traditionalist/paleo-conservative/libertarian, I must admit I am favorably impressed by Sarah Palin's traditional conservative Christian background as well as her accomplishments as Governor of Alaska in dealing with political corruption and Big Oil.

As a Ron Paul supporter, needless to say I do not care for John McCain's style of politics. At the start of the primaries, he was my next-to-last choice as a candidate. He has certainly been in Washington, D.C. sufficiently long to be considered "part of the problem." In my opinion, he is a just another Big Government politician who sees no end to the powers available to the Federal government--Constitutional limitations be damned.

My biggest concern is that if McCain/Palin is elected in November, the #1 item on the Big Government agenda will be to convince Mrs. Palin that her old way of doing business is "out", and the new way in which she will be expected to act is to support the Party and the President at all costs, regardless of her personal beliefs. Since President McCain and the Republican Party will continue to be Big Government business-as-usual politicians, Mrs. Palin will be forced to correspond to that mold, and will be transformed like a piece of clay, or will be sent packing back to Alaska.

Is a Federal government that follows the Constitution and its limitations, and governs with the consent of the governed too much to ask for anymore?

One reason McCain/Palin will win
One reason McCain/Palin will win is the cultural frame of this nation. There are 262 cities in the country each of 100,000 or more in population. But essentially America's culture derives from its small towns, of which there are nearly 100,000 of 10,000 people or fewer. Put those figures together with Sarah Palin, the only candidate hailing from a typical American small town environment and John McCain's heroism in wartime there can be little doubt that John & Sarah are going to win this election.

My opinion is in no small part due to my own small town Kansas background. Also typically smsall town I'm Christian, in my case, Catholic, and Pro-Life as well as a gun owner. Because I'm a WIA Viet-Nam veteran it shouldn't surprise anyone I'm in John's corner.

Dave Has It Nailed
McShamnesty will invariably run her off in due time when they clash if she is a true Conservative. Then, McShmanesty, the eternal maverick, will have finally gotten his favorite VP pick after all, Lieberman. He will have successfully played all of you CINO's who wouldn't know Conservatism if it slapped you upside your face. McCain's support for Shamnesty is but a harbinger of what Globalism he plans to pursue further.

Slowtalkin'
The majority of Americans want abortion to remain legal, available and safe (which would happen even if the cause celeb of the Far Right--Roe was overturned). They are not pro-abortion though and believe that there should be some restrictions (parental notifications, restrictions on late term abortions, etc). But few outside of a narrow fringe--e.g. Palin who even opposes them in the cases of rape and incest--that seems to dominate the GOP wants to see all or most abortions banned.
