Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

During his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, among the best he has delivered, Mitt Romney suspended his campaign, so as not to imperil GOP prospects in the fall. Said Mitt, "If I fight on ... all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Sens. Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

Thus did Romney endorse the John McCain view that the Democrats who intend to pull all U.S. combat brigades out by a date certain are raising the "white flag of surrender" to Islamofascist terror.

But when Mike Huckabee, who also delivered one of his best at CPAC, was asked if he would stand down for the good of the party, as his winning the nomination is now a near-mathematical impossibility, he brusquely dismissed such demands as "total nonsense."

"I didn't major in math," said the Baptist preacher, "I majored in miracles." Good for Huck. Why should he drop out?

For too long conservatives have suppressed their convictions or meekly submitted, so as not to oppose a Republican president or get out of step with the party leadership.

Because they did not wish to undercut George H.W. Bush, too many went along with his tax hikes and quota bill. And they paid the price in 1992.

Because they did not want to get out of step with their K Street contributors, too many went along with the refusal of Bush I and Bush II to secure America's borders. Belatedly, they have awakened to what "going along" has done to their country.

Because they did not want to get out of step with Newt and Dole, too many conservatives went along with NAFTA, Most Favored Nation trade status for China and the surrender of sovereignty to the World Trade Organization.

Result: $800 billion trade deficits, deindustrialization of the nation, and a dependency on foreigners for the necessities of our national life and for the borrowed money to pay for them.

Now, they all wonder why manufacturing jobs are leaving for China, why median family income no longer rises as in the Reagan era, why the Reagan Democrats are going home.

Because too many did not want to be seen as not supporting a Republican president in time of war, only six House Republicans voted to deny Bush a blank check for war.

Did the rest have no grave concern about the wisdom of invading Mesopotamia to dethrone a tyrant and democratize a nation that has never known democracy, when George H.W. Bush himself, wiser than his son, halted the Army of Desert Storm rather than take Baghdad?

Because Bush demanded it, too many conservatives went along with No Child Left Behind, Medicare funding of prescription drugs and the largest increases in social spending since LBJ. And what did their capitulation to Big Government Conservatism do for them, except earn them the contempt of the base, which they manifestly deserved?

Thinking is hard work, said Mark Twain -- that is why so few engage in it.

For too long, conservatives have not been thinking, but living on the inherited intellectual capital of the past. They have failed to see that the world has changed since Reagan's time and we must change with it.

The truth is the prospective Republican nominee is frozen in the past. Though an invasion of his nation is taking place on the border of his own state, John McCain is still reciting Emma Lazarus on the Golden Door. Though China manipulated its currency to seize our markets and loot our industry, and the European Union imposes value-added taxes -- tariff equivalents -- on U.S. imports, McCain is still babbling on about Smoot-Hawley.

Though the Cold War has been over for a generation, McCain has become more bellicose. He warns us new wars are coming, demands the ouster of Vladimir Putin from the G-8 and threatens Iran. If there is a single tripwire for war laid down in the time of Dean Acheson and John Foster Dulles that John McCain thinks we should pull up, or a single alliance he has urged us to review, this writer has not heard of it.

With the president at 30 percent and the party about to lose seats in both houses of Congress, conservatives should not be closing ranks but demanding to know why.

Huckabee has a chance to do himself a world of good by piling up votes and delegates and making himself a conservative alternative to McCain. But he also has a chance to serve his party and country, by putting on the table the issues neither party is addressing.

Are we as overextended strategically and militarily as we surely are financially and fiscally? Should we stick with free trade if our rivals are rabid economic nationalists? If we let 12 million to 20 million illegals stay, how do we stop the next 12 million to 20 million from coming in?

For his party's and his country's sake, as well as his own, Mike Huckabee should keep the conversation going. Because right now, his party is looking at Hillary, Obama -- or Bush's third term.

Finally
Finally an expert gets it. This is not 1980. Huckabee has good ideas and people that can get past their hatred of Christians can see it. Huckabee can do better in a debate against either Hillary or Obama, especially well against Obama. McCain will have a hard time going up against a younger guy who is popular with a theme of change, McCain will represent the same ol' thing (Bush)to a lot of people.

$.02
Pat is right on. It's a shame Pat doesn't run for the Senate seat in Va. He would be a great voice for conservatives.

Clarity at last
There are times when Mr. Buchanan seems like my slightly crazy great grandfather, but not today. He absolutely nails the biggest issues of our time and the real threats to our prosperity and ultimately our existence.

Take heed one and all, including Gov Huckabee. It might not be a bad idea to get this guy on the team.

I agree Pat for senate!
Pat Buchanon is one of the many smart people out there now endorsing Mike Huckabee!

What it means to be a Republican
Brokered Convention = Let’s talk about what it means to be a Republican.

1) A Brokered Convention gives conservatives a voice. A Brokered Convention gives Mitt Romney a voice. A Brokered Convention gives Mike Huckabee a voice. A Brokered Convention keeps media attention on the Republican party for the next 6 months for free! If we just roll over and go to sleep only John McCain will have a voice and the media will almost solely focus on the Democratic contest.

2) Republican Brokered Conventions result in wins!

Abraham Lincoln – 3rd Ballot - Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes – 7th Ballot - Won Presidency
James Garfield - 36th Ballot - Won Presidency
Warning Harding – 10th Ballot – Won Presidency
Dwight D. Eisenhower – “2nd Ballot” – Won Presidency

3) McCain has to win 472 more delegates (45% of remaining delegates) to secure the nomination. Huckabee needs 576 delegates (55% of remaining delegates) to force a Brokered Convention.

4) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60% of McCain’s delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?

5) 71% of the remaining delegates are from Red States. There are not enough Blue State delegates left to put McCain over the top. If we unite we can force this to a Brokered Convention.

6) Mitt asked Huckabee to drop out and for conservatives to unite behind him. The Golden Rule asks for “you to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” For the sake of conservatives please support a Brokered Convention and encourage Mitt’s supporters to back Huckabee.

7) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a Republican.

Hope this brings encouragement and hope. Spread the word. It is not over!

If Huck can win he must stay in
Huckabee is a fanstastic candidate-the creme of the crop.I have supported him from the beginning, and I voted for him in the Ga primary which he won.

But, if he cant mathematically win, he should not continue.

My question is: Are there enough delegates out there that Mike could win the nomination if he took say 85% of them?

If yes, then he should stay in. If not, he should get out. jmo

Huck is appealing
And has lots of good ideas, but his willingness to tamper with the Constitution so that it fits with his own personal beliefs makes him unacceptable as a Presidential candidate.

Water runs down hill
And so does American politics.
Anyone who wants to see a future for American kids, needs to swim upriver as we never have before.
GW Bush is intending to make them all like Mexican peons in my estimation.
McCain is his political twin with an explosive temper.

The only one really bucking it all is Ron Paul, and he gets flamed as a "nut".
God give us millions more nuts as smart as that man is.
The only one who understands all American financial problems originates with the thieving Federal Reserve Bank and their credit card fiat paper money.

One thing is certain, I will back Huck over McCain.

bryce3
Consider that a President should only advocate those changes that are consistent with his principles - if you are willing to accept that then it is only logical that Gov Huckabee only advocate for changes in the Constitution that are consistent with the basis of his principles... which is the Bible.

Do you really have an issue with someone that states that he will stick to his principles as it relates to Constitutional amendments? I would expect the leader of my country to do no less.

It really is not over!
Everyone should read the post by I B 4 Huck A B on Tues, February, 12, 2008 12:52 AM
"What it means to be a Republican"

This is a real opportunity for Huck, and a possibility I've not seen mentioned by the media.

"If we unite we can force this to a Brokered Convention."

Thanks for the great post!

Absolutely Right On Pat!
If you readers haven't seen it yet please watch Gov Huckabee's speech to CPAC. I think you'll be pleasantly surprise, if not impressed:

http://www.townhall.com/blog/g/0086e20e-dfd1-4839-b8de-15eb 1eb9b577

Likewise if you have not read this article by all means do - it sheds some light on the considerable conservative accomplishments and leadership abilities of Gov Huckabee in Arkansas:

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Newsroom.Article&ID =154

Hucks talk at CPAC
I did watch his CPAC talk and it was nauseating.... can he be any more annoying in his one liners???? I could barely tolerate him and his words... his talk seemed to go on forever and only afterward did I find out it was nearly the same length as Gov. Romney's. (And his was entirely more superior.) Will I vote for Huckabee if he somehow manages to upset McCain?... Right now - he-l no. He has done and said too many things that I find personally offensive and his pro-illegal stance for 10 years far outweighs his sudden conversion to better security on the border, blah, blah, blah stance he has now. I don't find him that much better than McCain and I can't even tolerate McCain... so what to do, what to do... I know - find a third party that actually represents me and what I believe. There's an idea. Otherwise I hold my nose and vote for Huckabee than I go home and take a hot shower...

The US Constitution
Is Founded already on Biblical Principles, and Huck needs to keep his personal convictions to him self.

No other man on this planet can be lawfully held to Huckabees principles.
The office of President is not a throne!

This is one reason the Founding States BARRED preachers from public office.
They just cannot mind their own business in their personal convictions.
If Huck wants the office of the President, he best understand this simple statement.
People can be over righteous in their zeal.
Everyone has seen it, and it is not a favorable trait in any person on earth.
Including Huckabee.
I am against smoking, but for me, not my decision for anyone else.

buchanan and huckabee
pat buchanan is a bigot, a homophobe and a traitor - doesn't anyone remember his deranged runs for the white house when he attempted to impose his intolerant agenda on the republican party and bolted when no one bought it? mike huckabee is a bigot and a homophobe. and now, like the grandstanding and increasingly irrelevant pat buchanan, he aims to become a traitor to the republican party by continuing what increasingly looks like a vanity campaign to seek a nomination he cannot win. . . enough already.

Huchabee do what??!!??
Get real Patrick. He's a preacher, come politician, using the pulpit to make a run on the presidency talking about miracles. And, he's no more a conservative than McCain, neither of whom for one minute can be expected to hold the conservative flag past half mast. Miracles, in deed.

Mitt's got it right. He folded his tent because he knows the numbers aren't there. He'll do more good for the republicans than he could by spending untold millions to come in a close second. So, he's supporting the one who at least has made the right choices in places where American blood flows in the fight against terror and tyranny. I for one still have a clear picture in my mind of the purple thumbs held high by Iraq's making a statement a few years ago, now largely ignored by the MSM. Let's at least give Iraqi freedom a chance even if we can't seem to maintain a grip on our own.

Huckabee amd conservative, now there's some real fiction. I doubt Mark Twain would be impressed with the "thinking" process you espouse.

Huckabee's Angels??
Huckabee gave a rather intriguing speech at the NRA in September, during which he deftly merged his heartfelt evangelical beliefs with his deep passion for gun rights and hunting. He recalled the time he was in an antelope hunting contest in Wyoming. After several hours of stalking prey on a miserably cold, windy and snowy day, Huckabee had his chance. An antelope was 250 yards away, but right at the edge of his range as a shooter. Then a miracle happened:

"I decided that one way or the other, this hunt is about to be over, because I can't stand any more of this cold. And somehow, by the grace of God, when I squeezed the trigger, my Weatherby .300 Mag, which has got to be the greatest gun, I think, ever made in the form of a rifle -- for my sake in hunting, I've never squeezed the trigger and not gotten something -- did its work, and somehow the angels took that bullet and went right to the antelope, and my hunt was over in a wonderful way.

Thanks to those angels, that elk was dead."

Let's put Huckabigot in charge of missile defense systems. Remember Charlie's Angels? Huckster could take out Bin Laden, Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong-il in three shots.

Is the fix in for McCain?

Huckabee is not conceding the Washington primary because the Washington GOP refused to count all the votes. Presumably they were trying to spare McCain the loss of all three primaries yesterday.

TPM: As you know, John McCain lost two of the three contests yesterday. He was losing narrowly in Washington state and then pulled ahead by a narrow margin (less than two points) toward the end. But then with 87% of the returns counted, the Washington state GOP, which runs the caucuses stopped releasing results. That left us and a lot of other news organizations in a bit of a quandary last night since it looked like McCain was going to pull it off. But as late as 1:30 AM on the east coast promised new results kept failing to materialize.

Hey talent scout I missed that line
in the constitution for a religious test on people running for office. Could you fine it for me and post it? BTW, Huckabee hasn't been a preacher for almost two decades, don't you think it is time to give this little game a rest. Reagan ran for President and the media couldn't give him a rest, he was just an actor. Yea right Same to you anti-preacher people. Mike is a lot more than just a baptist preacher and he is running for President not pastor. So sit down or stand up and whine or vote in the primaries for Huck or just be content with McCain.

I too will not go along
If the Republican Party wants to save it's self then do not nominate McFlapjack as the republican candidate for president. I will not vote for a 72 year old man who has serious health problems both mental and physical. If this is the best the GOP can offer then it's no offer at all. Listening to McCane tell the republicans he'll work with them now even though he has not ever, is like listening to the snake Sherkan in the movie, "Jungle Story" "Truuusssst me." Sure, but no thanks.

I agree with Pat
More, Huckabee needs to differentiate himself from McCain in campaigning in the remaining primaries. Specifically, he should come out as strongly against amnesty and for building the wall. He should tone down talking about social conservative issues as he already has those voters. In the fiscal area, he should try to undone his anti-business remarks. (But, if he wins the nomination, he should reverse course on that and run as a populist.)

Additional Food For Thought!!!
If the candidates for the Republican had been awarded delegates proportional to the number of voters who voted for them in the primary then the picture would look like this when Mitt Romney dropped out:

Romney 427
McCain 411
Huckabeel 234
Paul 78
and the rest would have been scattered among the rest of the candidates.

McCain only represents about 1/3 of all votes cast. He is not the choice of the party members. He is the beneficiary of early blue states going for him and those blue states having winner take all primaries.

So stick to your guns Mike Huckabee. You are not my first choice, but you have my admiration and support in your current fight.

And thanks for a very insightful and non apologetic article, Pat.

The Huckster

Hackamore writes: (But, if he wins the nomination, he should reverse course on that and run as a populist.)

That would certainly be true to form - say one thing and do another!! I was born and raised a southern Baptist, and I never knew ONE minister in the church who was morally fit. I find it amazing that so many so-called moral Republican choose to ignore the fact that the respected conservative watch dog organization JUDICIAL WATCH list Huckabee with Hillary Clinton as two of the most corrupt politicians in the country.

I don't like McCain - I supported Mitt Romney, a man of unimpeachable moral character and unexcelled experience in government AND the private sector - but as much as it sickens me, I will support him! A Hillary Clinton or a Barack Obama as Commander in Chief is sickening. Please read Colonel Oliver North's column at the top of this Town Hall page before you make your final decision.

Huck is a wolf in sheep's clothing
Mr. Mike Huckabee’s down-home, folksy media image is just a façade.

What he and his supporters REALLY want to accomplish is to turn our once great nation into a theofascist state based on a literal application of the Old and New Testaments…with divinely-appointed Mr. Huckabee presiding…all the while ripping the United States Constitution and the civil society it supports to shreds.

In short, the man is dangerous with a capital "D", with the "D" standing for "Dominionism".

Many fundamentalist Christians interpret a verse from Genesis…"Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground'"…to LITERALLY mean that God gave mankind dominion over the animal kingdom.

Or, to put it another way, Dominion theologians believe that that this verse commands Christians to bring ALL societies around the world under the rule of the Word of God.

What's more, the looniest dominionists in our country ALSO publicly insist that a pious government should inflict Old Testament punishments…including death…on blasphemers, pornographers, homosexuals, adulterers and even disobedient children. They constantly talk about their "duty" to institute biblical rule in the United States and around the world (as in: "Go ye into all the world…").

And, true to form, at a public forum on the eve of the Michigan primary, while mocking Republican opponents who don't want to append a “marriage amendment” or a “life amendment” to our Constitution, Mr. Huckabee said: “I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards...”

Mike Huckabee is the ONLY CONSERVATIVE hope at this point! In an age of Internet, people are easily swallowing pseudo- and biased-evidence on Mike's record of taxes, immigration, and pardons from any so called "research sites" or news blogs. Norris has clearly and accurately refuted these accusations in context in his past articles (see below)--that is why a very fundamentally-strong conservative like him and millions of us are voting for Huckabee. No choice for conservatives in 2008
I have 3 children who are now old enough to vote for the first time in a presidential election. What a bitter disapointment for them to have no choice! McCain, Huckabee, Obama or Clinton! What is happening to America?

But I do have to say that McCain is marginally better than Huckabee. Huckabee is a lying bigot and is as dumb as a post. I hope McCain is forced to take him for VP and they go down in flames together. Romney has more IQ than the both of them combined.

RickyLS and Ohg Rea Tone
Are drinking some mighty stong koolaid.

ABBMc
ANY BODY BUT McCain. That should be the new bumper sticker and conservative mantra. I will not vote for McCain, and I know hundreds who feel the same way. I will vote for the devil (Hillary/Obama) over McCain.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There will be no more shaming me by RINOS.

Brokered convention?
Today McCain probably gains at least 100 delegates (winner take all in Virginia 63, D.C. 19 and split in Maryland). This is almost a given. The only reason to vote for Huckabee is a brokered convention but these are long odds indeed. And to all Huckabee supporters be honest with yourselves. If there is a brokered convention three things can happen. Romney throws his support to McCain and it's over. None of the big three (McCain, Romney, or Huckabee) can get together and a heretofore non-candiate becomes the nominee. Or Huckabee brokers a deal with McCain, gives him his delegates in exchange for the VP nomination. Only an entirely different candidate would be an improvement over the current situation.

If Romney gives his delegates to McCain we have him anyway. If Huckabee brokers a deal and runs as VP we have an even worse ticket than McCain and any potential nominee (Pawlenty, Sanford, Romney, etc.)

Huckabee will not be on the ticket! I would like a brokered convention but not if it mean Huckabee is either our candidate for President or VP. The ticket cannot win with him.

The Baptist.
"Officials of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, initially agreed to host the annual multi-denominational Austin Area Interreligious Ministries Thanksgiving celebration last year, but abruptly canceled when they came to realize that Muslims might actually pray there. Under criticism, the church said that it "hopes" the religious community "will ... be tolerant of our church's beliefs" that necessitated the decision. [Austin American-Statesman, 11-16-07] "

I Will Never Forgive Huckabee
Nor will I forgive his followers. Their name shall be "destructive idiot" from this day forward.

Huckabee gave us McAmnesty. If Huckabee had dropped out before super Tuesday Romney would have beaten McCain, giving us a conservative candidate to vote for. Now we have a guaranteed liberal in the White House.

Its amazing! Bible believing Christians guaranteeing the take over of liberal welfare socialists. It just goes to show you, you can be stupid as a bag of hammers and still get to heaven!

I've been a conservative
for a long time. I suffered through Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Bush I and II and Clinton. I didn't like Nixon or Ford and thought Reagan was okay, but not great. I liked Ike. I thought Harry was pretty good.

Now we are faced with the worst set of candidates I've ever seen. What to do, what to do?

I guess I'll have to vote for McCain if he gets the nomination and for the Democrat if Huckabee get the nomination.

Yes, I will vote for the Democrat over Huckabee.

He doesn't "believe" in evolution. Does he "believe" in gravity? Does he think the great turtle carries the sun across the sky each day?

I don't want to have to revise the history books to show the earth was "created" in 4004 BC.

I don't want to see the Lincoln bedroom turned into a herpetorium.

I don't want to see the FDA turned into a faith-healing tent revival.

I don't want to have to walk on the water to get from Manhattan to Staten Island.

I don't want to have children have to learn to talk in tongues in school.

I'm tired of hearing about God this and God that and all God's plans and so forth. Let's get God out of the race and figure out what we're going to do about the things that are working to bring this country down:

The 1300-year-old war with Islam.

The continuing erosion of the US dollar.

Our massive external debt.

Our insupportble trade deficits.

The millions of people streaming into our country in contravention of our laws.

I'll vote Democrat over Huckabee because he hasn't got a clue about what to do about these things, but he'll sure ask "God's guidance." Get real. If you talk to God it's praying. If he talks to you you're nuts. Do we really need a religious nut in the White House? We've got one there now; look how well that's worked out.

I propose a morotorium. No more God talk in this campaign.

Barry

Rigged, not brokered
While I understand the protest votes, it is too late for a brokered convention. For one thing, the Republican establishment loathes Huckabee. If necessary, they will turn the full force of their media on Huck, shredding him like happened after Iowa. (The party elites were really scared of Huckabee then, and vowing to vote for Hillary.)

Also, the media has spent too many years building up the St. John the POW can't-lie myth. We can't tear that down fast enough. So lots of voters, even conservatives, will be voting on the myth that POW cannot lie, must all have good character, are all conservative, etc. They'll keep covering up McCain's real record until it is too late.

Also even if McCain some how fell a 100 delegates short, they would just be given to him. They can't just take the nomination from someone who got 90% of the delegates needed to win and give it to someone who got only 15%. Everyone who voted for McCain would rightfully feel cheated.

Also Huckabee himself is ensuring McCain's victory. He is probably hated at least as much as McCain.

The reality is that liberals will continue their takeover of the Republican Party unless conservatives have the b-lls to vote for a third party conservative in November. Caving in to the false argument that voting for a third party conservative is voting for Hillary means that we will always cave in, and they can nominate any liberal they want.

What some folks fail to realize…
Is that in order for a constitutional amendment to pass, it must have majority backing in congress. It is called a balance of power. If people don’t agree with Huckabee on certain things, rest assured, that argument will make its way into the halls of congress.

For the majority of issues (all issues in some of our minds) though, Huckabee is 100% right and Buchanan highlights some very serious concerns about McCain at this point.

I would like to make a plea to Romney backers to read Pat’s article again and really give thoughtful consideration toward getting behind Huckabee. I know that you were exposed to tens of millions of dollars of message that Huckabee is a bum but you really need to see through that as simply “politics” at this point. If Huckabee were that bad, why was he REelected twice as governor?

Huckabee will secure the border, he will win the war on terror, he will educate the nation on the Fair Tax so we can get it passed in congress (which will unleash the ability to achieve individual and national prosperity), etc. These are the things that are most important to me.

My toddler son and baby girl deserve a country that lacks all of the government BS controls and dials that are turned and twisted to keep power and money flowing to Washington/Wall Street puppeteers.

There are 5 candidates remaining. Three of the five are puppets & will carry forward the Washington DC/Wall Street agenda (gov’t as usual, break the back of the U.S. middle class). Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are not puppets and neither are beholden to anybody other than “We the People”. I disagree with Paul’s stand on the middle east which is why I vote Huckabee.

Please support Mike Huckabee before it is too late.

A Parallel
Buchanan presents Huckabee as the voice of the people as it speaks against the party machine. That's about the same thing that's happening in the Democratic Party as Obama supporters fear that even if Obama leads in popular vote and pledged delegates, Hillary still will be chosen (via superdelegates) by the party machine. In both cases, the conflict is not between the philosophies of individual candidates so much as it is that one represents popular support while the other represents machine support. It's as if this country is at some sort of political turning point---or not. Anyway, it's interesting to note that this parallel exists.

Huck's Hour of Prayer
Mr. Buchanan,

You can't be serious! The country does not need an uneducated snake oil salesman who promotes religious bigotry and hatred.

Artical on Soros $$ supporting McCain
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId= 56177

Not sure what is true or not. If it is, it speaks to my message that some candidates are beholden to Washington/Wall Street puppeteers.

Huckabee is living proof of the
conservative's discontent with McCain.
People should listen closely: Huckabee has no chance of winning the nomination mathematically. Giulinai & Romney have exactly the same chance of winning this nomination mathematically - which is to say ZERO.

McCain is the nominee.

However, there is widespread dissatisfaction with John McCain & that's why you see some folks casting a "rebellion" vote for Huckabee, allowing him to carry the occasional state. But even Karl Rove sat down on Fox News, explaining how Huck had no chance.

It is my personal feeling that McCain will not offer Huckabee the VP slot. The reason being that McCain is fishing for votes in the political CENTER, among the moderate to liberal cons as well as independants. McCain offering the VP to an evangelical who believes in "Creationism" & not in Darwin, who is closely aligninged with the "social" cons in the party, might turn away potential independants.

Remember, Obama is increasingly becoming the democratic nominee. He is expected to win all three primaries today....& he won all 5 dem primaries on Saturday. And he is raking in cash. And he is the best speaking candidate (orator) to come along in a couple decades. So McCain is going to be fighting tooth & nail for those independants (& moderate republicans) who are seriously considering an Obama vote. So I don't think he'll be spending too much time conceding points to the evangelicals.

Huck's Hour of Power
Mr. Buchanan,
Thank you for your excellent article. I believe that the RNC establishment and too many in the conservative Media Elite have prostituted their principles for the sake of pragmatism, power and political expediency. All of this based on electibility, looks, persona. That is what liberalism is all about. Take a look at Obama, a new charismatic persona, with a form of liberalism that makes the Clintons look conservative. During the first few years of W's administration the political pundits talked about how extremely liberal the democrats had become and lost their way. Over the past two years their have been a few voiced in the wilderness declaring that the RNC and conservative movement had lost it's way, yet they have chosen to ignore those cries. Look at who they want to coronate. Look at how they lamented that Mitt Romney had dropped out, I thought I was attending a funeral. Yet the truth be told Mr. Romney was much like Obama a new suit, face and persona(assumed by many to be Reagan re-incarnated). Yet as the dust is beginning to settle from the first round we see three candidates left. One of them has tried to lay a guilt trip on the RNC and the rest of the voters that he should be voted on because he was a POW and has spent a long time in the senate. Another one has some interesting ideals, yet has been a part of a do nothing, solve no problems congress. A third has revolutionary ideas, and has shown a capacity to overcome the odds and to lead effectively. It's good to know that I have a choice and don't have to leave it up to the impotent minds of the RNC, White House, so-called Conservative leaders, and the Conservative Media Elite(Rush, Sean, Glenn, Ann, Michelle, Laura I., Mike G, Hugh Hewitt, etc).

To daybyday
There was a time when a presidential candidate whose educational background consisted of 1) a major in Biblical Studies at a small southern Christian college and 2) an unfinished term at a Baptist Seminary (unfinished because he quit school to become a televangelist) would have been the stuff of Saturday Night Live.

Huckabee admits he knows nothing about foreign policy. He is an economics ignoramus. He has no background or training in and no association with diplomacy. You evangelists out there, we heard in 2000 how "now that we have one of our own in the White House" everything was going to be peaches and cream. Say, how has that been working? Bush's presidency has been such a disaster that GOP candidates this time around take care not even to mention his name.

What you KNOW is important. Huckabee doesn't know the things a president needs to know. I don't doubt he would be great at offering a prayer before each meeting he attended.

Hucky
he talks a good talk, yes. but his record shows otherwise, and lately his talking points are a direct theft of Dr. Ron Paul's platform.

At CPAC, Dr. Paul received a standing ovation. He was on fire, a great speech.

Intelligence behind Creation
To all those of you who harp on Huckabee as a creationist, I've heard his remarks on the subject and I think he made it quite clear that he believes God created, but he didn't say that it happened in 7 days. He said that the Bible story may represent epochs. I, for one, think that the Darwinists have to have more faith that the Big Bang theory set in motion all the amazing systems in the universe than that there is an intelligent being behind it all.
Darwinism describes a process, but it doesn't explain how that process was set in motion. The Big Bang theory would have us believe that some infinitesimally small particle exploded one day and all on its own set everything we know in motion.
There is an excellent documentary by Ben Stein that explores the silencing by some elites in the scientific community of myriad scientists that support theories of Intelligent Design based on rigorous proofs and studies. Why, if Darwinism is so settled, can't it stand scientific scrutiny from peers?
And, if Huckabee, is the dolt that so many people like to make him out as, how can he think so quick on his feet, be an eloquent speaker and be the leader of a movement without benefit of the GOP establishment or political machine?
I resent the implications that all those that are inspired by his strong stances on many issues are just religious dumb zealots. These criticism expose a grand bigotry and snobbery for those who only look at appearances. You would have missed out on a Lincoln Presidency because he didn't have the proper pedigree. Peace.

What's Right With Hope
Hope and happiness seem to be on Huckabee's side. Haven't you noticed? Huckabee's people are happy. They're hopeful people. What could be better for America than to let the world see that Americans are happy, hopeful people?

To matters of practicality.

Huckabee has begun a dialogue with many foreign leaders, having visited 40 countries in the past. Don't you know that his infectious personality has already influenced leaders on America's behalf?

The fact that Mike Huckabee has been able to visit over 40 countries, even prior to his bid for Presidency, speaks well of Mike. He is a hard-working, ambitious man who is willing to use his skills as a great communicator to influence the world for the good of America.

The media has been proposing that one reason for Mike to stay in the Presidential race is that he is having the time of his life. May I propose to you that the reason for Mike to stay in the Presidential race goes much deeper. As it is evident that he has a record of being a hard-working man, he's continuing to work hard to become America's next President because he cares deeply about the future of our Nation.

Possible brokered scenario...
Folks, there are two ways to look at a brokered convention:

1. McCain lost momentum
2. Huckabee gained momentum

Both mean that Huckabee will be stronger than McCain even if McCain has more delegates.
Huckabee has other things going for him over McCain:

1. Better stand on issues
a. Signed NumbersUSA pledge to oppose amnesty for illegal aliens
b. Secure borders
c. Strong military
d. Fair Tax
2. Better communicator
3. Better debater
4. Quicker/more witty
5. More likable

What happens if Romney throws support behind Huckabee? Is a Huckabee/Romney ticket out of the question?

Think this through folks…

Tolerant Baptist
"Officials of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, initially agreed to host the annual multi-denominational Austin Area Interreligious Ministries Thanksgiving celebration last year, but abruptly canceled when they came to realize that Muslims might actually pray there. Under criticism, the church said that it "hopes" the religious community "will ... be tolerant of our church's beliefs" that necessitated the decision. [Austin American-Statesman, 11-16-07] "

The Exclusion of Clergy from Political Office in American States: An Oddity in Church-State Relations.

From: Sociology of Religion Silverman, William

During the early nineteenth century thirteen American states had provisions in their state constitutions which prohibited clergy from holding political offices. Most states dropped this provision from their constitutions before 1880. Most of the states with these provisions in their constitutions were southern or border states.

Atta boy, Pat!
Once again Pat Buchanan writes an article that goes further than a juiced-up Bobby Bonds homerun! It's a sad state of affairs when the Republican power brokers REPEATEDLY fail to heed the wisdom of this little, pugnacious American Irishman who always makes sense like Solomon of Old. However...

Mitt Romney, who ran the Bain Corporation, is up to his ivy-league collared neckline in closing down American factories and outsourcing hundreds of thousands of our jobs to India, Mexico and Red China... and while at it socking $250 Million bucks in his savings account. So Mitt is certainly no Pat Buchanan. However...

Of the best Republicans that remain standing, they are in order: Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee and in last place Jorge Bush's favorite conservative... Juan McCain. And one more thing...

Without a doubt Pat Buchanan should run and become the U.S. Senator for Virginia!

To Yt_Knight
Your optimism is refreshing. But do you honestly believe that 1) Huckabee would pick Romney? 2) That Romney would accept?

I just don't see how these two could come together. Huckabee has been in McCain's pocket attacking Romney all the while McCain got the benefit from this and pretty much sewed up the nomination. If Gov. Huckabee had gone after McCain earlier instead of playing for McCain maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

Gov. Huckabee may be better than McCain on many issues but his only hope is a brokered convention and I just can't see Romney lending support to someone who has criticized his religion and ganged up on him.

I don't want McCain but I just don't see where Huckabee brings much to the table. He has so angered Mormons (they voted 90+% for Bush last election) that Hucakbee could possibly put in play some states that have large Mormon populations (Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming and even Arizona).

I hate to be a defeatist but I think we're stuck with McCain.

Thinking is hard work,
that is why so few engage in it. - Mark Twain

This quote is so fitting of some commenter's and columnists here on TH.

I see more echos of pundit and commentator opinions in the columns and commenter's of TH than I do people expressing their own ideas and opinions. Some columns and commenter's don't even take the time to put others opinion int their own words and simply copy and paste another persons words. Some commenter's go so far as to spam their copy and paste comment into every column they can.

I do not agree with every point Mr. Buchanan made, but I do agree that the GOP is living with it's mind on repeating past victories rather than applying the principals and ideals which led to those victories to the issues of today.

It is more about positioning for the most votes than it is about fighting for the principals and ideals of the conservative movement.

It is time to return to our roots by applying our all core principals and ideals to the issues of today and tomorrow.

Thank you, Heaven, for Huckabee
Initially embracing Huckabee for his pro-life stance, I was further enthused about his FairTax, arts in education, and immigration plan. Marrying his high school sweetheart, Janet, and staying married to her for 33 years shows he practices what he preaches as well. And imagine John McCain debating Obama or Clinton. He would have difficulty succeeding by mere age/spunk alone. Then imagine Huckabee debating either one of them. He's had a lot of experience with the Clintons in the past (he's exceedingly more "heart-smart" than Hillary) and he'd absolutely bury Obama. I feel Obama is close to the Antichrist with his strong pro-abort stance. He feels a baby's life can even be ended just minutes before delivery. People are following his "change" and "hope" stuff like they are under some spell. This is becoming a good/evil election battle more than anything else. RE: Huckabee and banning smoking, did either of you see last weekends Meet the Press?

Mike Huckabee addressed a question about this issue.

MR. RUSSERT: ....back in August you were asked about this: "If you were president in 2009, and Congress brings you a bill to outlaw smoking nationwide in public places, would you sign it?" Huckabee: "I certainly would." And then a few months later, your offices says, "The governor believes that this issue is best addressed at the local and state" level.

GOV. HUCKABEE: ....on the smoking ban, I was asked if that was presented to me, would I sign it. I signed a similar bill in my state which said that we are not banning smoking, we are protecting clean air in the workplace. I still believe that there is a fundamental right that people have to do damage to themselves, but they do not have a right to do damage to others in a workplace. That's the basis on which I signed the state law and the basis upon which I would sign a federal. When I said that I still believe that it's best handled at the state level. It is. But if...

MR. RUSSERT: But you would sign a federal law.

GOV. HUCKABEE: If it were about a clean air workplace, not about banning smoking. Because the point is, and I know it may sound trivial, but it's, it's important to me philosophically that you're not telling an individual what he or she can't do, you're saying what you cannot do is to infringe upon the right of another to have clean air.

The above was an exchange which included other discussion of other issues, but I edited it down to just the smoking Q&A due to space on TH posts.

Huck wants VP
but I would not vote for that combo. I am more worried abouty Huck than McCain. Huck is a smooth bigot. They are BOTH RINOS, friends, both of them.
We conservatives are fried for this national election.

Let's get going on bringing back a conservative congress like we had in 1994.

Huckabee made one comment about Mormons
I don’t know if it was a cheap shot or not. It seemed innocent enough to me but, for the sake of argument… say it was mischievous or devious, or ill-willed. It was one comment followed almost immediately by an apology.

Consider the backdrop at the time the comment was made… Tens of millions of dollars of attack ads (contrast ads in Romney-speak) were flooding the airwaves on what? Is Huck really soft on crime considering that he gave the green light on 16 executions? Is Huck really “Tax Hike Mike” just because Arkansas tax receipts increased while he was governor? Inflation, higher employment, and getting people off welfare have something to do with increase of state tax receipts as well don’t they? My point here is that candidates spin things to craft a perception. Certainly, tens of millions of dollars of “contrast ads” vs. none coming from Huckabee (okay, one that was pulled) will have an effect on voters perceptions right?

Think about this… If the “contrast ads” weren’t run, Romney might have fared better:

1. Personally, they just made me mad at Romney.
2. He would have had more campaign dollars to spend on a positive message
3. He might have had campaign dollars to continue the race.
Look, I am not attacking here. These are just observations.

Now, I do believe that anything… “anything” is possible in a brokered convention. We need to get it there folks.

Peace.

Huckabee admits he knows nothing about foreign policy.
-----
Nor do you
American Foreign Policy was Established in the very first administration by George Washington.

(which by the way, no one seems to know today, including you lilly, not just Huckabee)

We no longer have an American Foreign Policy, we have a globalist intervention permanent alliance busy body arrogant Foreign Policy.

Washington's Farewell Address 1796

"Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground? Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor or caprice?

It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them.

Taking care always to keep ourselves by suitable establishments on a respectable defensive posture, we may safely trust to temporary alliances for extraordinary emergencies.

Harmony, liberal intercourse with all nations, are recommended by policy, humanity, and interest. But even our commercial policy should hold an equal and impartial hand........."

We have a globalist Foreign Policy

You are spot on!!
The best we could hope for is McCain to go on bended knee and beg Romney to join the ticket.
Not going to happen....but...
Romney could end the whole thing tomorrow by giving his delegates to McCain 'for the good of the party' with the previso of certain assurances (all conservative) programs would be instituted by McCain.
That done, Huck would have nothing at the convention.
And if Romney did that and "turned down" the nomination as vp to an acceptable conservative alternative (read anyone but Huck) such as Fred or ?? ...
then Romney would be Brilliant! He would set the stage for his run in 2012.

I know......
I just ranted about copy and pasting, then did it myself, but I wanted the actual question and comments to be available when I added my own comments, which are;

I agree it should be a state level issue. If a Federal law was to pass it should not be a ban on smoking, but a law that reinforces the right of non-smokers to have smoke free air to breath while in public places.

Personally I think smoking is a dirty, disgusting, and deadly habit. My Dad died from smoking induced cancer when I was 17.

Too many smokers use public and private property (which doesn't belong to them) to use as an ash tray. It irritates me when I hear of a grass or brush fire started which ends up destroying millions of dollars of property and turning whole families lives upside down by some driver throwing a butt out a car window. Older cars have ash trays, and in newer cars that don't come equipped with them the smokers should buy one that fits in a cup holder (I know they exist, auto parts stores sell them for less than a pack costs these days).

Despite my personal feelings about smoking I would not ban it. I say let those who wish to kill themselves do so. But I agree that non-smokers have a right to smoke free air when out in public. There is a fine line between one groups right and another. The laws have to be written in such a way as to not impede on one groups right in favor of another. Private business should not be forced to be smoke free, but if they choose to cater to smokers they should make it clear in the form of an easy to see and understand outside sign so non-smokers can avoid walking into a smokey establishment. As for careless disposal of butts, that is an issue I would be for severe penalties of, especially if the act results in a fire.

Funny Lilly
For someone who is a poster child for the notion that a MINIMUM knowledge of economics, history, science, etc, should be required before one is allowed to vote, your posts today are especially hilarious. Tell us, dear, what is YOUR candidate Obama's experience and knowledge in any of these areas? Tell us, dear, of even ONE thing he has accomplished in his life to make him qualified to be president. While Huckabee admittedly is merely another political ignorube, your implications as to the qualifications and erudition of anyone in YOUR political party are truly precious. Give us a friggin break!

American Foreign Policy has been renamed
And today it is better known as isolationism.

Designated as such and renamed by the official wisdom from Corporate Headquarters, Washington DC.

American today is a Corporation, hardly an Independent Nation it used to be.

Did you miss when this happened?
Well so have most citizens today.
Even while its the elephant in the living room.

The incorporation of America began in 1913 with the 16th amendment.

That amendment opened the door for business and government joining together for its present day partnership.

The black horse got saddled up in 1913, and now is trotting across the globe, and the rider is the enemy of mankind.

"measure of wheat for a penny, and see thou hurt not the corn and the wine"
Revelation 6

(the faithful will see what I am talking about, the blind never see anything)

And as every Corporation does to increase its profits, it expands it markets and its dues, called income tax today.

So do all the hired hands keep pushing for more and more, the politicians.

One escape folks, time to seek it.
It is not this Corporate Government of today.
It is Jesus Christ

McCain is NOT INEVITABLE
We DEMAND a choice, we are not sheep, we are free Americans and will not be force-fed this arrogant, self righteous, belligerent, angry little man! States which have not yet voted, don't let him get the max delegates he needs! If need be hold your nose and vote Huck to stay in the race. Then we DEMAND a true conservative alternative.

The immigration issue is, right now, more immediate than Islamic fascism. The invasion of illegals is already destroying our country and must be stopped. They are bankrupting our treasury, wrecking the culture, medical and education systems, killing our police officers and citizens legally driving on the streets. Look at the photos of the environment 100 miles from the border- it looks like a war zone-covered with destruction and trash! These results we see today; we don't have to wait for the terrorist bomb.

If McCain were honest (he's not), he would TODAY demand that right now the double fence be accelerated on a pace to completion by mid-2009. And that silly statement to "have governors certify the border is secure"- that would be RINO Arnold, Janet (D-AZ), Richardson (D-NM, Perry (RINO TX)- what a laugh!

Free Americans- stand up and fight- DO NOT ACCEPT MCCain!

Foreign policy and GWB?
As far as i can see GWB is clueless about Foreign policy and has surrounded himself with morons in this area as well. Heck look at Rumsfield what an idiot! Being a good President is not knowing everything about everything its being able to surround yourself with quality people that will not just "Yes" you to death. Many excellent Pres appointed people that had totally different positions on many issues. I think Mike is Bright and Humble enough to appoint the people he needs to make good decisions. Heck McCain thinks he knows everything just like GWB...What a disaster!

Economics…
Huckabee understands that the FairTax will level the playing field with foreign competition and bring jobs back to the U.S.A. Tax tweaks are not the answer.

Huckabee understands that the more transparent tax receipts will end the current smoke-and-mirrors tax advantages of America, Inc. power-brokers.

Huckabee understands that you don’t just give people a hand-out, you put them to work (make USA more competitive, build infrastructure while this is happening). Give a man a fish vs. teach him to fish… Bush is as bad as the Dems on this.

For people to paint Huckabee as a dumb hick on economics is just plain mistaken.

If you want to see more gov’t-as-ususal elect someone who is beholden to Washington/Wall Street power-brokers. If you want to take our country back for We The People, support Huckabee.

It is extremely important that we get this to a brokered convention.

Peace.

YK

Ang
Don't hold your nose and once again vote for the lesser of two evils. That is the reason our country is in such a mess. We have been duped by a clever DEM/GOP/MSM PROPAGANDA effort that tells us we have no other choice, no where else to go. The elites have promoted this lie in order to remain in power.

Their second technique has been to divide us into liberal vs. conservative ideologies that offer nothing in the way of creative, innovative, and effective legislation. All it does is engender more partisanship, which has replaced any kind of leadership in Washington.

All of this is in play as the elites seek to once again get us to give them the Presidency and accrue even more power to themselves. It is time for all of us to wake up. This is our nation, we are the rightful owners of it, and we should exercise our authority to govern ourselves.

If you want to see exactly how the elites have rigged the election process to secure power and what we can and should do about it, I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place to find a candidate not tied to political party machines, PACs,corporations, or corrupt lobbyists. We simply cannot afford another elite President from either party, it will be the ruin of what is left of our birthright, a birthright that is being stolen right out from under us!

Isn't it time to act? Isn't it time we did something other than the same old same old? How else can we ever get to a different result? Think about it. Thanks, Joe

interesting how
interesting how the public is answering these questions when concerns Mike Huckabee...

http://www.buzzdash.com/index.php?page=category&C_id=3

Good column
This, deep down, points out how not sticking to one's principles, and overvaluing being pragmatic and short-term oriented (as Americans always have been), eventually leads to ruin.

A stand on controlled borders and access, balanced budgets, etc 15 years ago and we would be in far far better shape as a nation.

But instead, someone just HAD to win the next election or the world would end. And so they convinced enough of us to compromise.

Well, look what it got us. Massive debt, a phoney gutted economy that has to borrow for what it consumes, a balkanizing population, and a solid Democrat congress and probably a Democrat president in a year.

Bush's Third Term
Mike Huckabee,
He should stay in the race and not let anyone tell him otherwise. At least he can keep all the options on the table with all the topics that would not be discussed if he wasn't bringing them
up. Staying in the race will make John McCain tell the truth about what he wants to do. I don't believe Huckabee can win but I don't want him to run away just yet.
But either way McCain has to be better than Clinton or Obama. Clinton and Obama are like two
nascar racers, turning left because thats the only way they know how.

I heard of agovernor
I heard of a governor

There once was governor who oversaw the increase of the maximum personal income tax rate from 7% to 11%

He also allowed the state corporate tax rate go from 5.5% to 9%.

Under his watch the sales tax went from 4% to 6%.

He signed a bill allowing state taxes to be withheld from paychecks.

The state budget under his governance doubled from $4.65 billion to $10.27 billion a year

The prison population declined under the first half of his term because of a lenient parole policy.

I wonder, would we conservatives would vote for this governor if he were running for president?

He was a novice in foreign affairs, some thought him a lightweight.

He was a captivating communicator, an honest, principled man, full of integrity and conviction. He had big ideas and dreams. He could speak to the common man and inspired us to love our country and believed that in America, a small town boy could become anything he wanted, even President of the United States.

His name, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Ronald Reagan was president during my formative years, 7 – 15. I remember wanting to watch every press conference cause he spoke in a way that a young boy could understand. He helped me learn to love America and taught me that America with all its faults is the “Shining City on a Hill”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mike Huckabee has a more conservative record as Governor than Reagan did.
The similarities are striking and obvious to anyone with an open mind and heart.

Vote Huckabee in 2008!

Sticking to Principle Is Always Best
Political expediency and all that jazz, (usually pragmatism in a party dress), is fine for "the good of the GOP" and all that. But for the good of conservatism and for the good of libertarianism, Huck and Paul should fight on. Why step out of the spotlight if you can afford to stay in it?

A voice for change must use every outlet it can, and even in a "losing cause" temporarily, if one can get enough media attention they can affect outcomes down the road. Sure, if Huck was just content to help the Republicans at any cost he would have dropped out by now. But there is a larger cause.

Huck's heart is to have an amendment to protect the life of the unborn. So he will carry on in the tradition of others who would not shut up, such as Frederick Douglas and Wilberforce.

Vote No to Huckabee
I B 4 Huck AB,

You have the audacity to ask Mitt's supporters to back Huckabee after his lies, smears and backroom dealings against Mitt? Most of the Mitt's supporters rather back McCain than Huckabee. Unfortunately, Huckabee won't keep any conversation going because Huckabee doesn't say anything. I have listened to him over the course of the whole campaign. I still don't know what his real positions are. I don't think he has the intellectual power to explain and defend his positions.

Some of the things he says that he now supports run 180 degrees from his record. Where are the flip-flop charges? If Elmer Fudd could drop one liners and eloquently speak for hours while saying nothing his name would be Mike Huckabee.

Hucks no alternative
These fanciful ideas that the Huckster is a conservative alternative is just nonsense. What fool really believes this? His support comes from folk who want to believe that a former pastor must be good. Sorry guys, that's a delusion. He has serious ethics issues and was named as one of the most corrupt politicians in America. As Governor he beat on his own party and supported Democrats. The conservative GOP congressmen in the Arkansas used to call him "Socialist Mike".

To say Huck should stay in the race as an alternative to McCain is a myth purpetuated by Huck. He is no alternative. He is the same mould as McCain. I hope conservatives realise this and start coming up with some other solution. Supporting Huck ain't one of them.

RickyLS Huck's pardon record
Your source is not credible on the pardon issue. First, check the time line on the vote for pardon before Huckster intervened and after, It is a matter of public record. The board is appointed by the governor to a $70,000 yearly job by the way.

http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer.aspx?Article ID=154e1aad-fd18-4efd-8d80-b5dab8559419

Suttlar noted that just prior to Huckabee’s appearance before the board the board had voted 4-1 against Dumond’s parole. After Huckabee’s board appearance, her colleagues largely reversed themselves, voting 4-1 for Dumond’s release.

Now tell me with a straight face and a hand on the Bible that Huckster does not owe our murdered and raped Missouri girls mother an apology. I am willing to forgive a mistake because we all make them. Huck's refusal to say "I made a mistake and I am sorry." speaks volumes about his lack of character!!!!!

Go Huckabee
In my opinion, conservatives have to get behind Huckabee. We have to defeat the Democrat-riding-an-elephant who is McCain (He almost ran as ultra liberal John Kerry's running mate in 2004... against Bush and the Republican party). McCain is a hardcore liberal. He's like Lieberman, would you pick Lieberman, who is great on foreign policy and terror, over Huckabee? I hope not. I don't think McCain's judicial nominees would be too much better than Peoples Commissar Hillary's nominees or Most-Liberal-Politician-In-Congress Obama's nominees.

For decades conservatives have yearned for a real Christian-conservative. We finally found a man who will stand up for Christian values, use Christian language without fear of liberal intollerance, and will try to get abortion and "gay-marriage" abolished. We're so in disbelief that we got such a great candidate that we think he's some kind of mountebank. Many conservatives believe the lies his political opponents have thrown at him such as that he seeks to raise taxes. He will fight hard to abolish the IRS and impliment the fair tax,. Huckabee, a relatively poor man from Arkansas whom so many are bigoted against because of his religion, race, accent, and last name, is our only hope to overturn the betrayal of Republicans we voted for but gave in to the Democrats.

He's wrong on some issues - His support for the children of illegal immigrants (who should also be considered illegal immigrants - although he does want to build a fence and end illegal immigration once and for all), and school vouchers, but on everything else he's excellent. He's far more conservative than McCain, and unlike Ron Paul (who has no chance) he can also impliment a logical foreign policy to keep us safe.

My 2 cents

WHY do you think McLame is not worried about "reaching out" to the conserative base? It's simple. McShamnesty may be a liberal but he ain't STUPID. He knows all you conseratives will be good little boys and girls and march in lock step to his drum AND HE WON'T HAVE TO DO A FREAKIN THING (which sounds vaugely like what happened 4 yrs ago. Hmmmmmmmm).

If any of you had even the teeniest cajonies you'd tell McAmnesty to F-OFF and wish him good luck winning the election. Don't you understand that when you vote for the supposedly "lesser of two evils" all you do is create more of the same. That little troll has watched BOTH Bushes get elected that way and knows that alot of republicans will do the same thing this time around. Folks, this isn't rocket science.

And for the love of GOD, stand for something and let the chips fall where they may. Most of you are supporting the man out of fear. Fear that H/O will create some big socialist tidal wave. To this let me point you in the direction of California and a certain fellow named Auhnold. WAKE UP PEOPLE the man will go LEFT not RIGHT.

Fool me once, shame on YOU. Fool me twice, shame on ME.

God bless Glenn Beck as he appears to be the ONLY one left with his head still screwed on straight.

Give the real conseratives someone/something to fight AGAINST this time around.

RickyLS Hucks true pardon record!!!
http://www.arkansasleader.com/frontstories/st_08_11_04/huck abee8.html

Governors seldom reduce sentences in other states – and almost never for murderers serving life without parole or for rapists or for habitual drunk drivers, while in Arkansas it's a regular habit with Huckabee.
___ Other governors use their clemency power only rarely, while Huckabee has made it routine. As we've told you before, he has issued more than 700 pardons and commutations during his eight years in office – more than 137 this year alone – and more than his three predecessors combined.
___ Here are the figures for neighboring states since 1996, when Huckabee took office (and keep in mind the population of these states is nearly 20 times ours):
___ >> Louisiana – 213.
___ >> Mississippi – 24.
___ >> Missouri – 79.
___ >> Oklahoma – 178.
___ >> Tennessee – 32.
___ >> Texas – 98 (in-cludes 36 inmates released because they were convicted on drug charges with planted evidence).
___ Total: 624 vs. Huckabee's 703.

Twenty times the population in these neighboringg states, would make Hucksters ratio record 14,060 to 624 for similar geographical circumstances. Is Arkansas that screwed up?? Doubtful, since Huckabee issued more pardons/paroles that the past THREE Arkansas governors combined!!!
RickyLS your source only use Chuck Norris and a comparison to a New England state where Romney issued no pardons. Same thin applies to Tenesseee from this article. In Tennessee, Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, has issued no clemencies since he took office in January 2003.
Don't drink Chuck's Kool-aid.

@landofconfusion: Go Huckabee!
And take the rest of the evangelicals with you.

Pat Buchanan for Senate
Consider McCain, Obama or Hillabeast as president. Then consider Pat Buchanan in the Senate as a buffer to the inevitable amesty and other liberal crazed policies. RUN PAT, RUN PLEASE

Real christian-conservative is a myth
It's not Huck. Does a real christian-conservative set up a gift register for lobbyists? Does a real christian-conservative destroy records to prevent an investigation into his ethics? Does a real christian-conservative beat up on GOP conservatives? Does a real christian-conservative support Democrat candidates? The Huck is a grub, not a real christian-conservative.

Explain to me why
Huckabee supporters want Romney supporters to join with them to defeat McCain. Now isn't that special. Gov. Huckabee attacked Gov. Romney at every turn while kissing Sen. McCain's feet and now he wants Gov. Romney's supporters to back him. Now that takes some gall. Gov. Huckabee won't even admit that Gov. Romney is a Christian much less stand up for him. We don't need a Minister in Chief. We need someone with conservative values and "Christian ethics" (something which I believe Gov. Huckabee does not have) to be President for all of us. We do not need a "Christian" President.

Have you forgotten...
...that Huckabee is not only a hypocrite but he's totally dishonest. His rape of this state's computers belonging to the governor's offices cost us $150,000 to replace. Then he and his First Lady registered with the bridal registries and asked people to given them wedding gifts to furnish their home after they'd been married 100 years (well, maybe it was just 30)? They did this because the law prevented accepting any gifts over $25 unless it was a wedding gift. That's totally dishonest. He also spent our $500,000 emergency fund which the next governor couldn't get replaced by the legislature because they also had to replace all the computers Huckster had destroyed. And why did he destroy them? What is it he needed to hide?

If this and McCain (who also should be in jail as well as his wife for stealing drugs) are the best the RNC can offer, we're in big trouble.

I blame our current crisis on the RNC for changing the rules in the winner-take-all states on the East Coast to accommodate a quick win for Giuliani. Anybody remember him? Well, he lost and the whole plan backfired giving us McCain for the nominee.

Maybe the conservatives need to start a conservative party. Sorry, I'm just disgusted with the whole process. It was bad enough having Huckabee in our own state, I don't want all the states to have to have him. I care too much for our country.

Huck clueless - so are his supporters
http://ryanhawkins.townhall.com/

Huckabee is conservative?
This article's premise is that Huckabee is an acceptable alternative to McCain because he is more conservative. This is one of the most ludicrous assumptions I have heard.

Other than social issues, Huckabee changes his postion on conservative principles more ofteh than McCain. He was an open amnesty supporter until he put his finger into the wind and figured out that position would not help him win the election. He denigrates economic conservatives and knows nothing about foreign policy.

Worst of all he doesn't have the judgement that God gave a stale soda cracker. He supported the release of a prisoner that went on to murder two women. He pardoned over 1000 prisoners. He has been found guilty of multiple ethics violations, and had the temerity to register for presents to circumvent rules against using his political office for personal gain.

This man is a looser, and if nominated will probably do worse than McCain. And that would be difficult considering what the DNC is going to do to McCain.

How not to make friends & influence
"Gov. Huckabee attacked Gov. Romney at every turn while kissing Sen. McCain's feet and now he wants Gov. Romney's supporters to back him. Now that takes some gall. "

Exactly. And Huckabee also viciously attacked the East Coast economic/military conservatives. So after angering most of the groups in the party, he fantasizes that in a brokered convention we will all rally behind him!

Right, shortly after hell freezes over.

The Huckabee forces pretend that they are "winning", by getting some votes now that everyone else dropped out of the race.

MellorSJ2, Sparky
I'm not an evangelical, MellorSJ2, as you seem to imply.

Sparky, Mitt Romney is not a Christian (although I think he would have made a very fine president and I would have no problem voting for him. If Huckabee wins I hope Romney is the president right after). He's a Mormon. A cult member. I'm not going to dance around that issue just because I like him. Huckabee supporters want former Romney supporters to join them because we don't want to see McCain win. Huckabee defeated Romney politically, and he is no ally of McCain - he merely respects him as many do (I respect McCain even though he is a liberal). Huckabee does have his problems - no man is perfect - but I think he's going to change America for the better.

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home

Gov. Huckabee is honest?
Baptists teach that Mormonism is a cult. That's fine and that's their opinion but why won't Gov. Huckabee just say that? Gov. Huckabee did not defeat Gov. Romney! Sen. McCain defeated Gov. Romney but Gov. Huckabee did not. All of you Gov. Huckabee supporters want the rest of us to jump on the Huckabee bandwagon to "defeat McCain" that would be great if that were the only reason you wanted our support. We're not naive enough to believe that. If you'd say let's get a brokered conventiona and then nominate Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich or any number of acceptable candidates then maybe we'd jump on the wagon. But until we have assurances that this is the case this is one Romney supporter that says no thank you.

Who decides?
Off-topic, but Landofconfusion, who gets to decide who is a Christian? This semantical game you and other Christians play to marginalize anyone who doesn't think like you is destructive to you and every other person who believes that Christ is the Son of God. Where do you people get the audacity to make that kind of statement? I even hear morons like you claiming that Catholics are not Christian.

On thing is for sure, you do not endear yourself, or your political positions, by denigrating the beliefs of others. You would be well advised to let those that believe what they believe determine what they believe instead of using an arbitrary definition to say they do not.

Exposing the Mormons - Southern Muscle
When Mitt Romney's campaign was in full swing posts 'exposing' the Mormons clogged the campaign blogs and comments. Anti-Mormon messages morphed out of nowhere like mushrooms after a rain storm. LDS authorities seemed astonished at the intensity of the criticism...

landofconfusion
CS Lewis, arguably the most insightful Christian writer of the last mid century, in his forword to his classic "Mere Christianity" suggests that when someone acknowledges that Jesus Christ is their personal Saviour that should suffice for the definition of a Christian.
A cult? Anti-mormon tripe.
Remember...if Huck would question the Mormon beliefs he will question the beliefs of a Catholic, Protestant, Jew or Muslim and yours and mine. It comes from the same spirit of divisionism that Huck has mastered and now wants to distance himself from. Good luck, Huck!
I have a problem with Huck's character...no question he pulled the 'religion card' in Iowa and his "I am going to show you the negative ad that I am not going to run" did it for me.
Ed Rollins is a savy snake. None of this was happenstance.
McCain should find an alternative to the Huckster as vp. Again, I seriously doubt Romney would be interested.

Hucks a grub
Landofconfusion says Huck is no ally of McCain. Where in the world did you get this nonsense from. Did you listen to the debates?? They were a tag team against Romney. Huck thinks McCain is great. We know that because he said so.

Hucks supporters only come from his church. The thinking voter doesn't like Huck because he has ethics problems. He has an honesty issue. He destroyed files to prevent ethics investigations. He beat up on his GOP colleagues in Arkansas. He supported democrats. His supporters only care that he goes to their church. In the words of Lenin, they are the "useful fools" the Huck is using for power. This guy is a grub and will never be a mainstream conservative candidate. Actually, he's not too different from McCain.

It may be a given
that McC will be the nominee, but not on my vote and I intend to vote Huckabee only to protest
the imposition of this Soros backed wingnut whose only claime to fame is that he was among
many others in the Hanoi Hilton. I'm sick of that song of his being a POW, and a hero. What kind of hero spikes a report of sightings of live
POW/MIAs in S.E. Asia with his good buddy Kerry, the one most responsible for the added time as prisoners and torture with his lies to congress.
Does that compute? I'd think real heros would
never ever talk to that slime. What kind of hero, screams invectives at a family member during a hearing on the same subject, reducing her to tears? What kind of hero refuses to
co sponsor a bill by the Legion/VFW addressing
Agent Orange? That's not my idea of a hero.
If he's on the Soros payroll, how many others
in the Party elite are on the same wagon? Methinks there are many.

McCain
I will be very interested in McCains vp choice...for me 'holding my nose' and voting for him depends soley on that...and his behaviour between now and the election, toward conservatives and his new 'enlightenment' on immigration.
Look, he has many flaws but might ultimately be the only choice we have.
Advice to McCain: be careful, be VERY careful about your running mate!

Oh, no. My secret is out.
I have been secretly planning with several leaders in our country to turn the government over to God. We have been working on the wording for the amendment to the Constitution. We can't seem to decide what should be done with those who disagree with our theocracy. About half are voting for burning them at the stake and the other half are pushing for a good old fashioned stoning. There is also the disagreement as to whether to change the Lincoln Memorial to the Billy Graham Memorial or the Jerry Falwell Memorial.

Now that the secret is out, we may have to ask President Bush to use a floating cross in the background of his next televised speech. Perhaps that could get us back on track.

These people who post comments are pretty quick.

Some agreement
with you, Pat. However, one major reason not to abort the campaign is this is a process. (pardon the term) Should everyone just stand down to anoint McCain and subvert the selection process? Some believe so. Give them those backroom deals once again, maybe they'll be happy.

Huck is a hoax. Hope McCain picks Mitt 4
For too long conservatives have suppressed their convictions
---
Except, you've got one thing wrong ---> Huck is NOT a conservative at all. Fred Thompson was right when he said Huck is a pro-life liberal. The ideological purists rejected the most qualified and viable conservative in the race -- Mitt Romney and now they are left with a liberal-loving nutcase, moderate McCain and pro-life liberal charlatan, hickster Huckabee.

What does it matter that the Huckster says he is a good Christian and pro-life when Huckabee will turn the U.S, into a socialist nanny-state?

est problemo
The ONLY problem I see with the whole scenrio is Huck seems unwilling to take McCabal on. Say it isn't so, Huck. Political correctness won't get us there.

Major in miracles, not math schlock.
Who likes those drippy one-liners he keeps throwing out there? Maybe it sells in the South (cuz Fred Thompson did it too) but to average Americans it reeks of slick insincerity and being too cute by half. It makes me want to wretch every time I hear one of his witty one-liners. Gag me with a spoon.

He confesses he doesn't knwo much about foreign policy and he pardoned someone every 4 days for 10 years whether they deserved it or not, but because he says these cute little things he is fit to be Commander in Chief? I THINK NOT.

I just watched Fox
I think it's that one Brit hosts. Good grief, it's enough to make one barf. The consensus was that Huck should withdraw, to keep going is bad..bad for what, the GOP, McQuisling? The American people? I'm a Republican voter but I have long refused to send any money to the RNC because of the liberal toads running it and supporting RINO's. There wasn't one peep out of anyone of the so called party leaders when he collaborated with the liberal left on those bills with his name, or his gang of 14. So why should I have any loyalty to a party of spineless wimps? I think its more than that, as in someone knows which closets contain the skeletons. Isn't it special, those of us with
late primaries are robbed of their choices because the party elites want unity..HAH!

AnnB
well its better than the old one-liners and stale jokes McCain is ripping out there. He can't even read them off the teleprompter right. Drippy though? I'll refrain on that.

Keep going Huckabee !
Pull off a four game comeback to go to the World Series. Seriously I liked it when Huck stated that it would rob the states who havn't caucused yet the chance to express themselves. I agree let them decide too. Give Huckabee the delegates.

Great article
The outsourcing of American industry and the most favored trading status, by Clinton, is the most dangerous thing to America's security and economy. Have you noticed that China has been very quiet lately? This is allowing the billions of American dollars to fund their war machine. Clinton saw to it that they now have the ability to deliver a nuke to the California coast.
The most serious threat to us is, like in WWII, is being attacked on two coasts. If the Islamists and China both attack us we will be faced with a challenge that will make WWII look like a local conflict.
We had better wake up before it is too late

To buzzkat
Well, Obama sure as hell seems to know how to run a campaign, doesn't he? Let me play your "name one" game: name one Republican who has ever, in the living memory of any of us, done what Obama is doing.

However, while we're on the subject, Harvard Law teaches material more relevant to governance than does Pensacola Christian College.

Not Huckabee, PLEASE
yt-knight,

There is a difference between contrast ads that are based on facts and Huckabee's lies (robo calls) and downright bigotry towards Romney's religion. And his WV backroom deals. Face it, Huckabee is a crook. And I don't buy it is just politics. We want an upright and honest guy in the white house, for onece, a class act. Definitely not Huckabee, I am convinced he is NOT the one

iitywybad
Yeah, right - judicial watch top 10 most corrupt also includes Scooter Libby. Give me a big time break. That list is a joke.

And I suppose you believe
that man caused global warming too.

You people that are all twisted up because Huckabee does not believe in evolution (gasp!) need to get a grip.

Evolution is a THEORY. It should be taught as a THEORY and considered with other THEORIES and explanations for the beginning of life.

Huckabee did not run a theocracy in Arkansas.

If that's your biggest concern about Huckabee then you probably should be voting for him.

McCain $100,000 From Firm Of Abramoff?
Will this hurt McCain?

HP-On the stump, Sen. John McCain has touted his work tackling the excesses of the lobbying industry to bolster his reputation as a “maverick” reformer.

“Ask Jack Abramoff if I’m an insider in Washington,” McCain often contends. “You’d probably have to go during visiting hours in the prison, and he’ll tell you and his lobbyist cronies of the change I made there.”

But how much change did McCain actually effect? And is he all that removed from Washington’s special interests?

A review of campaign finance filings shows that the Arizona Republican has accepted more than $100,000 in donations from employees of Greenberg Traurig, the very firm where Abramoff once reigned.

To Jim B
No, it isn't time to give it a rest. It doesn't matter how long it's been since Huckabee was a preacher. He has stated clearly that the purpose of his campaign is "to take back this nation for Christ". That alone disqualifies him for high public office in a nation that has no state religion, but there's more. Today an interviewer asked him "What do you want from McCain" and Huckabee started his list with "He must show intention to amend the Constitution to reverse Roe v Wade" (I am paraphrasing but that was his meaning). He wants to change the Constitution so that it will reflect his Bible-based preferences. Also, in a debate he indicated that he does not accept evolutionary biology. In or out of the pulpit, Mike Huckabee is still a Baptist televangelist: slick, charismatic, oratorically inspiring, and determined to "take back this nation for Christ". We have had an eight-year taste of having national social policy decided by religious extremists, and that's enough. Time for a change.

Stick a fork in Huck
He's done. What a totla embarrassemt on the level of J E. Carter.

When will huck do the math and do the man thing and get out? His ego won't allow it, but perhaps if he prayed really hard, he might get the answer to GET OUT.

A Fun Way to Get to Know Huckabee
This e-book contains a bunch of great photos with quotes by and about Gov Mike Huckabee. Gives a little different insight into the man:

http://www.huckisms.com/

VT KNight
Huckabee said more than one comment about the LDS faith. He actually was a KEYNOTE speaker at a very large SBC Anti-Mormon convention held in 1999 in Salt Lake City (belly of the beast, one might say.). After numberous requests, he still refuses to release the contenst of the speech. Why not? If he's so 'clean' and 'honest', why not release that speech to show how you know nothing? Or could it be, your speech was filled with the very same mis information that is preached from pulpits by fearful preachers who don't want to lose their jobs when their congerations convert?

It IS a two man race!!
For last place. Who will stoop lower Huckabee or Ron Paul? I am betting on the Huckster.

Huck gave a great speech? What!
Did we start speaking Portuguese and did someone forget to tell me?

I would think Pat Buchanan could spot a moderate.

Huckabee mathematically cannot win
“The results from tonight’s primary elections in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., make it mathematically impossible for Governor Huckabee to secure the Republican nomination for president,” Davis wrote. “He now needs 950 delegates to secure the required 1,191. But in the remaining contests there are only 774 delegates available. He would need to win 123 percent of remaining delegates.”

Yt knight writes:
"I would like to make a plea to Romney backers to read Pat’s article again and really give thoughtful consideration toward getting behind Huckabee."

You have got to be kidding!

Rayfinn writes:

****

He has. The last time I saw him do so was in an interview on CNN on 12/5/2007.

He said it was a mistake, all of us failed, and that we ought to extend our grief and heart felt sorrow to these families (this last part is near the end of the video linked below).

Nice try, but not 100% accurate.

No he can't with the pre-conventon delegate race, but if McCain doesn't get the required delegates to secure it then the convention will be brokered. In that setting Huckabee, McCain, or even Romney who by not withdrawing and retaining his delegates could still be chosen as the candidate by the delegates, or some deal could be reached giving delegates in exchange for some other favor.

Such a situation may be what is needed to wake the party up and bring the party back to the principals and ideals they have strayed from since the end of the Reagan era.

Christopher Parisho
My point exactly. Huckster says it was a mistake, all of us failed and WE ought to extend our grief and heartfelt sorrow. He wants to SHARE his zealous mistake. He NEVER said "I made a mistake and I am sorry." That does not cut it in my book. If I were to steal and my apology were along the lines, "A lot of us steal for a lot of wrong reasons and we are sorry". Nope, He needs to shoulder the blame, admit, confess and ask forgiveness. Repentance 101 Huckabee.

What we look for
Too many of us think that the world runs on our emotions. I think it runs on trust. Trust works with the self fulfilling propecy that what you expect from the world is about what you get. When you go out expecting the worst, you will probably get it. And if you expect good things to happen
oddly enough good things are for more inclined to happen. The problem is that to effect change in otheres, we have to change ourselves first. There are two sides to every coin, we have to look at the right side with trust and acceptance, first of ourselves, and then of someone else.

Rayfinn writes:
But he didn't pardon him. The only thing he is guilty of is incorrectly believing that Dumond was deserving of parole and recommending it.

Even so he is willing to share the blame and offer an apology.

Sounds like you are just looking for a technicality to lynch him and not accept his apology (which he has given).

If you didn't steal but found out that someone you loaned you car to did while driving your car, should we demand an apology from you? You knew the person well enough to loan them your car, you should have known what their intentions were to use it for.

That is the logic of your argument.

Christopher Parisho
First of all I did not write what you just attributed to me! Second, you analogy with the car is about as far out in left field you can go. Here is a better one. Let's say that you as an employer strongly encouraged your employee to lend their car to a known person with a DUI conviction and a habitual drinker. Your employee does not want to be on the bad side of the boss, so agrees to do so. Now the car borrower gets drunk, hits and runs and kills a 16 yr. old teenage girl. You the employee should bear the brunt of the guilt as it was your strong encouragement over someone you held control over to do a foolish thing. Yes, your employee would bear some responsibility in a court of law and should for not standing on principle. If the parole board had conviction, they would have maintained their vote 4 to 1 against. HOWEVER, since they are appointed by the governor to their $70,000 a year position, they were afraid of not being reappointed.
I stand by my case that Huckabee should have owned up to his part, the others be damned, and admit and confess. Next, personally apologize to the family. He would have been a far bigger man in my book for it.

Pat gets it right again.
Great analysis PJB, to bad that your clear thinking is not more commonplace in the rest of the so-called conservative ranks. Huckabee should stay in the race.......I need someone to vote for when PA finally gets around to having their primary (and it won't be McCamnetsy)! :)

Christopher Parisho
Documented lies by the Huckster, especially damning is the last on the Wayne Dumond case. If you believe in law and order, you have to watch it.
