Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Not since 1952 has the nation entered a presidential year with greater seeming uncertainty as to who will face off in November.

Early that year, Tennessee Sen. Ernest Kefauver upset Harry Truman in New Hampshire, relieving the nation by dashing Harry's hopes for another four years. The Republican race would be a titanic struggle between the Eastern Establishment's Gen. Dwight Eisenhower and "Mr. Republican," Ohio Sen. Robert Taft, the conservative paragon.

Splitting the primaries between them, Ike and Taft fought all the way to the convention, where Ike's Texas delegates were seated and Bob Taft's booted.

How important was that race? Ike would win and serve two terms. His young running mate, Richard Nixon, would be twice elected president. A dark horse for that GOP nomination, Gov. Earl Warren of California, who threw his support to Ike at a critical moment, would be named chief justice. Out of that Republican race would come the Eisenhower era, the Nixon presidency, the Warren court.

And though the 2008 GOP race may seem wide open, it is already probably down to three candidates, could be over by Jan. 4 and will probably be down to two by Jan. 9, the morning after New Hampshire.

The front-runner since spring, Rudy Giuliani, is close to toast.

By dropping out of the Iowa Straw Poll in August, Rudy ceded Iowa and the cornucopia of publicity the winner receives. He is running far behind in Iowa, sinking in New Hampshire and certain to be skunked twice by Jan. 9. If so, he will lose Michigan, then South Carolina, where he is already far behind, and Florida, his firewall, where he is now slipping behind both Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney.

If Rudy is 0-4 going into Florida, he loses Florida. If he is 0-5 going into the Feb. 5 Super Tuesday states, his national lead will be ancient history. In some national polls, it has already vanished.

The same holds for Fred Thompson. Though Iowans were eagerly awaiting his appearance at the straw poll, Fred, too, took a pass. And though he seems ideally suited to the party, he is running so far behind in New Hampshire and Michigan it is hard to see how he survives to reach home base, South Carolina. There, he is already behind Romney and Huckabee. In New Hampshire, Fred is behind Ron Paul.

Wisely, he is headed for Iowa to put all his chips on a strong showing, hoping Romney and Huckabee will do to each other what Dick Gephardt and Howard Dean did: rip each other out of contention.

If Fred does not make a strong showing in Iowa, a prediction: He will drop out and endorse John McCain, who has a shot at repeating his 2000 win in New Hampshire. For McCain has the endorsement of the Manchester Union-Leader and Boston Globe, and Rudy is pulling out of the Granite State, ceding the moderates to McCain, hoping he will stop Romney there and keep his own fading hopes alive.

If Mitt Romney wins New Hemisphere, drop the curtain for Rudy, Thompson and McCain -- and they know it. For if Mitt wins in New Hampshire, none of the three beats him in Michigan, they will not beat him in South Carolina, and they will not beat him in Florida.

Can McCain, who kicked away what seemed a near-certain nomination by embracing the Bush-Kennedy amnesty and stiffing the Iowa Straw Poll, win? Not impossible. If he can win New Hampshire and make himself the national alternative to Huckabee, a desperate GOP establishment might rally to him for lack of an alternative.

But McCain's fate is not entirely in his own hands. He needs an assist. He needs Huckabee to defeat Romney in Iowa, where McCain will be waxed, then to come back and beat Romney himself in New Hampshire. Two losses by Romney in states where he has invested millions would put his campaign on life support.

But if Romney wins Iowa, he will win New Hampshire and Michigan, and go into South Carolina 3-0. If Romney wins the first two, he is almost surely the nominee. For that would eliminate Rudy, McCain and Thompson, leaving the only man able to stop him in South Carolina a twice-defeated Mike Huckabee and his Christian prayer warriors.

So, two weeks out from Iowa, here are the odds.

Rudy and Thompson each 20-1. John McCain 6-1. He has to win New Hampshire, and even if he wins there, he would be an underdog. Grass-roots conservatives do not like him and would prefer Huckabee.

Mitt Romney 3-2. If he wins Iowa, he is almost unstoppable. If he loses Iowa, he has to come back and beat McCain in New Hampshire. Then it would a Mitt-Mike race through Feb. 5.

And Huckabee? He has to win Iowa. But if he does, he will be the favorite in South Carolina and for the nomination, as well.

Looks like a Mitt-Mike race, with Iowa and New Hampshire giving us by Jan. 9 the two candidates from whom the nominee will be chosen. And isn't that how it usually is? Iowa and New Hampshire choose for America.

flip flop Romney goes again
Mitt still flipping and flopping...
His dad marched with MLK, or did he?

Mitt was pro-choice before he was pro-life?

Mitt was pro-gay marriage, then he wasn't...

Mitt doesn't remember if he was at a Planned Parenthood event, I mean, that was way, way back in 1994...

Mitt didn't want to talk about his faith, so he decided to give a major speech on religion...

Mitt said he was going to "stay positive," but started viciously attacking Huckabee when Huckabee passed him in the polls...

Mitt said he was a life-long hunter, okay, well, now he says he shot a couple of birds, twice...

Mitt says, "I cried" when blacks were finally let into the LDS priesthood, except that the civil rights movement took place in the mid-60's not the late 70's, no wonder he cried...

Mitt Romney, yesterday & today
Yes, Mitt Romney went through a sea change.

But that makes you a bigot to point out anything in his past you do not like.

And you also must realize, coming from hyper-lib Massachusetts covers a multitude of sins-- meaning, who could have done anything else in such a socialist state but pass Commonwealth Care?

And who could have stopped the court from mandating homosexual marriage (even though the voters and the constitution forbade it?) Certainly not Mitt Romney.

Fred Thompson supports a federal amendment banning court fabricated gay marriage. Fred Thompson opposes universal health care programs by the government.

McCain/Huckabee...
Not a bad ticket for the Democrats/Liberals. I think that ticket would beat Clinton/Obama for the Democrat nomination.

Thompson/Hunter or Thompson/Romney would be a good ticket for conservatives.

When is Romney?
Does anyone have any bets on when Romney is going to call it a day? I don't know what it is, but the man just irks me. I would realy just like to not have to see or hear about the man ever again.

I can't stand to see him being interviewed. He makes my skin crawl. NO...it's not the Mormon thing, so don't even go there. I'd vote for a rock worshipper if I thought they were the best guy/gal for the position!

There's just something about Mitt that realy gets under my skin. I'm a Dem and I don't plan to vote for any of the GOP nominees, but I don't have an aversion to the sight and sound of any of the others.

Even Paul, with his strange way of speaking, a sort of panicky whine combined with lots of incredulity. This should bother me, but at least Paul kind of amazes and entertains me in some rubber necking type of way. He's like a car wreck. You know you shouldn't look and stare, but you can't help it.

I must admit that John Edwards runs a close second to Romney for irksomeness. What is it about these two that brings a pained look to my face when I see their mugs or hear their voices?

Ooh...I just thought of other people who bring about the same reaction in me. Does anyone know what essence these individuals might have in common that makes me have a gut disgust for them.

Sean Penn
Bono
Brad Pitt (only sometimes, depends on what day you catch me)
Bill O'Reilley
Carson Daily
Nancy Grace
Gloria Allred
Movie, Book and Music Critics, especially the ones who take themselves very seriously. (Who made up these jobs and what makes these individuals opionions on subjective matters more valid than anyone elses?)

The Wild Card
While the analysis is pretty solid, he left out the one big wild card in the race. Yes, you guessed it: Ron Paul.

His signs blanket New Hampshire, and there is a huge grassroots canvassing campaign occurring right now in Iowa. While he doesn't show up in the polls, much of his support are unlikely to be polled as they have not typically voted in primaries before. He has had over 100,000 donors this quarter alone who have given him a staggering $18 million.

No one knows what the final effect of all of this support will have on the actual vote, but given the divided nature of the race, he might just be the big surprise of January 2008.

The "Huckster" is NO Conservative
Mike Huckabee was regarded by fellow Republican governors as a compulsive tax increaser and spender. He increased the Arkansas tax burden by 47 percent, boosting the levies on gasoline and cigarettes. The Arkansas Leader.com editorialized that Mike Huckabee raised more taxes in 10 years in office than Bill Clinton did in his 12 years.

The National Education Association endorses any candidate who raises taxes and opposes school choice – thus they endorse Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee “broadly repudiates core Republican policies such as free trade, low taxes, the essential legitimacy of America’s corporate entities and the market system allocating wealth and opportunity,” according to George Will.

The Arkansas Ethics Commission held proceedings 20 times on the former governor. During his tenure, Huckabee accepted 314 gifts valued overall at more than $150,000, according to documents filed with the Arkansas secretary of state's office. (He accepted 187 gifts in his first three years as governor but was not required to report their value.)

Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned rapist Wayne DuMond's guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, DuMond murdered a women in Illinois after Huckabee set him free

He joined the Democratic chorus in indicting President Bush for his "arrogant bunker mentality." Is he in the right party?

Huck’s use of the “Christian Leader” title and the Cross in his ads and his attempt to denigrate Mitt Romney’s religion is a thinly-veiled attempt to impose a religious test in violation of Article Six of the Constitution

The Huckster was the keynote speaker at an anti-Mormon conference in Salt Lake City. And he knows nothing about Mormons? And the "Christian Leader" doesn't want to release his sermons?

Mike fails on so many levels as a true conservative.

The moniker "Huckster" is well-earned.

Bull-Its a brokered convention
If I had to pick one columnists that I agree with virtually every time it would be Pat. But this is one of those columns, written by columnist who has to put out something for his syndicated column every week whether or not he has something to say. The above is so bad I suspect Pat took off for Xmas vacation and delegated it to a surrogate.

The election might have gone the way predicted except for Huckabee, Ron Paul, and the early primaries. Ron Paul is the only candidate with boots on the ground. Way behind in terms of boots comes Romney. This will tell heavily in New Hampshire.

Huckabee will not do anywhere near as well in the blue state Rino and independent dominated New Hampshire Republican primary as he will in Iowa. And Huckabee can't sustain himself. Huckabee is the anti-Republican. He will not get a majority of the delegates and so even if he gets a big plurality, the convention can not designate him. Everyone knows a hot-dog evangelical can not win the election. And an Anti-Republican evangelical might not win one state in the general election.

My prediction is still Romney. Now that Tancredo has left the race, puking on my shoes, I will vote for Romney. He is all we have left.

Mickey Mouse may be...
...the big surprise of 2008 also, but I wouldn't put my money on it.

You go,Mitt! You have my vote!

As We See Others, We are.
We may not know you name or the person you pretend to be, but how you are climbing all over Mitt Romney tells me you are not up to any good.

HOW DO YOU THINK TO FOOL SOMEONE WHO SEES THROUGH YOU?

“THE UGLINESS WE SEE IN OTHERS IS A REFLECTION OF OUR OWN NATURE.”

AMERICANS ARE NOT AS STUPID AS YOU THINK- BUT YOU ARE.

If You Don’t Like Mitt In What He Values
You don not hold many values for which to appreciate you. Your success must not speak well for you either. "Mediocre people are always at their best." Small minds gossip about absent people, or hid the hand that throws the rock.

How we judge others is a measure of our own character, whether of shame, guilt of fame. Personally I will worry more about your future that for Mitt Romney. He has our respect but you are at and all time low.

All the same
HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE MITT

.....If the choice comes down to Mitt or Huck ...then it is a no brainer ...it has to be Mitt ...

...Huck was endorsed by the NH NEA which also endorsed Hillary ...if I knew nothing else about Huck ...this one fact would be enough to disqualify him from consideration ...except for abortion and gay marriage Huck is as Liberal as Hillary ...

.....Thompson has been his own worst enemy or the victim of some really bad campaign advisors ...if he does not make a surprise comeback in Iowa then his candidacy is pretty much over ...it is too bad because Fred was one of the few consistant Conservatives in the race ...

.....I don't think Fred's endorsement of McCain will help him ...like Fred ...McCain shot himself in the foot when he supported the Bush/Kennedy Amnesty Bill ...he might finish second in NH but if he could not beat Bush in SC ...why would he do better against Romney or Huckabee? ...

.....If Huckabee doesn't win SC then it is all over for him and then it will be Romney vs Giuliani and Mitt will have all the momentum ...

.....The best I can hope for is a Romney/Thompson ticket with Hunter and McCain possibilities for the VP slot ...

.....If Romney gets the nomination then Republicans need to rally behind him to keep the Clintons out of the White House ...If the GOP loses the Presidency in 08 ...then the Republic is lost .....COLOSSUS

Um , sure pal
>>not a bad ticket.

Hillary's camp would love it:
Mr Amnesty + Mr Closet libral

Liberal Southern Baptists
make bad Presidents. Remember, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were both Southern Baptists. So is Al Gore.

I am a Christian, I don't consider Mormons to be Christian, yet Romney is my second choice after Duncan Hunter. I think the man would be a fine president.

First of all, he is competent. Lord, wouldn't it be nice to have a really competent man in the White House? One who also had absolutely no personal scandals?

Romney is certainly not perfect. But neither was Reagan. Reagan was also pro-choice before he was pro-life. Guess what - sometimes people really do change their minds. At least Romney (and Reagan) made a change for the better.

Re. the whole "My dad marched with MLK" thing - Romney's dad did go to several of King's rallies and events, and MLK Jr. was quoted as saying he thought the elder Romney would make a good President. So maybe an argument can be made that Romney's dad was involved in the civil rights movement?

I don't want to attack any Republican, even the ones I don't agree with on the issues, because, honestly, whoever the Republican nominee is, will get my vote against Hillary or Obama. But given how badly Hunter has done in the polls and how lackadaisical Thompson's campaign has been, I find myself favoring Romney.

KOHMAR

.....Why Paul can't win ...

.....He wants to run the Government according to the Constitution and neither the Congress or the mindless mob believe in the Constitution any more ...the MSM calls Paul a radical and a kook becuse he wants to follow the Constitution ...

.....The debates killed Paul with their 30 second sound bytes ...Paul makes perfect sense on the war but he needs time to explain in detail his reasoning ...just pulling out our troops right now is not popular with Conservatives ...

.....You can watch Paul on Meet the Press on Sunday and see how he does when he has time to explain his position ...but no matter how well he does ...he will never get over 10% in the polls ...it is sad but that is just the way it is .....COLOSSUS

Bot you missed this one.

To long? Just read the summary (linked to at the beginning).

So Huckbots let's hear it for the Huckster.

Ron Paul gets my vote.
Let's see, one or two undesireables donate to Ron Paul along with 1000's of normal every day Americans and some want to discount him. He's for getting the feds out of my face and wallet which upsets the libs so they grab at any straw they can find to discredit him. The libs can go to, well you know, but my vote goes for the man who wants to restore constitutional government and put the fed back on a short chain.

baseballdoc
You might be right, but it will not change my vote. While I would still not want to vote for Kerry, I regret my vote for Bush. He has been the best Democrat since JFK, and he has caused a great deal of harm to the Republican party.

McCain &Thompson for MSM & the Sheeples
Another way of saying this is that McCain & Thompson joined together in the Senate to gut the First Amendment and protect incumbents. They are both as RINO as anyone could be from the red states of Arizona and Tennessee. They both totally supported the McCain-Feingold Act which forbids anyone except for the Mainstream Media to criticize the voting record of Congressional Incumbents within 40 days of any election. That is they forbade any criticism of any Incumbent during the period when voters are paying attention.

We all know that the Main Stream Media is the right arm of the Democratic party. So the MCain- Feingold legislation gives incumbents a huge advantage over challengers and gives Democrats a huge advantage over Republicans.

McCain and Thompson only have somewhat Republican voting records because the had to vote conservative sometimes in order to get re-elected in Arizona and Tennessee. I the last 20 years McCain-Feingold was the most anti-Republican legislation passed in Congress. McCain & Thompson are Democrats in Republican clothing. They are certifiably anti-Republican.

How about we choose for ourselves!
The scam being pulled on us once again, that we have no other choice, nowhere else to go but the lesser of two evils vote must be rejected! This big lie, that only "they" have the necessary wisdom, knowledge, and experience should be soundly refuted!

We are the rightful owners of this great nation, but the elites have hijacked the election process to assure themselves continued power. The result has been a severe partisan atmosphere in Washington that is failing the nation.

I urge all to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place to see how the clever elites are generating more big govt. while lessening our personal freedoms. How many more times are we going to fall for their lies? When are we going to stand up and say no more of this nonsense? When will we reclaim the birthright that has been stolen from us?

Are you happy with the future we are giving our children? Is America a place of individual effort and hope, or a new world order socialist state that tries to make us all the same? Our decision in 2008 is more important than any recent election and the elites need to be deined the Presidency! That will get their attention. Check out the site, you will not be disappointed. Thanks, Joe

No Huckster, please!
The Huckster has charmed the media and debate viewers, but close inspection reveals a lover of ILLEGALS and a globalist-- egad! No mas! Regularization Rudy and the Huckster might be thinking about an odd couple pairing, but their agenda would be Presidente Jorge redux-- precisely what 70%+ of Americans rightly say they do NOT want.

Meandering Mitt is a bit hard to trust, but he is SAYING the right things about the ILLEGAL invasion. Regularization Rudy, the Huckster, and Juan McQuisling are verboten on ILLEGALS alone-- END OF DISCUSSION! You can try to put lipstick on those ILLEGAL-loving pigs, but they still oink. Fred has solid ideas on many issues... check them out:

http://www.fred08.com/virtual/Immigration.aspx

Duncan is a good guy who has fought hard against ILLEGALS, but history does not bode well for a Congressman trying to jump to POTUS. Intellectually, I like Ron Paul, but he is probably too cerebral to be understood by the masses... the powers that be will tear him down.

Thompson Endorses McCain?
I was watching the Morning Joe and they claim the rumor is out that if Thompson does badly in Iowa he may pull out and endorse McCain. In 1999 Thompson did endorse McCain over Bush.

You need to do more/better research. Fred has explained the McCain bill and what happened.

Here's a brief overview. Fred was all for making the election process more transparent and for taking the crooks out of the equation. But, and this is a big but, after he read the bill and signed off on it, a few peices of crapola was slipped in. This can directly be blamed on McCain. The first thing Fred did was to ask that him name be taken off the bill, and it was. Then he appoligized for ever signing the stupid bill.

Fred felt as burned by this abomination as you and I do.

Don't let people fool you when it comes to the truth.

Merry Christmas!

lodestar
I agree that Fred Thompson does not look too bad, but unfortunately, he has managed his campaign finances badly and is now nearly broke. He didn't even manage to get enough signatures to make it on the ballot in Delaware. I really don't know if he has enough momentum to make a move.

Regardless, I like Ron Paul better anyway. Ron Paul has a very consistent record in congress, and the openness and honesty of his campaign is refreshing. There is far more information about Ron Paul readily available on the Internet than any other candidate. You can read every speech he has ever given in congress, and all of the interviews and speeches in the last year.

It is amazing to see how many people are flocking to his campaign from all walks of life: young and old, Democrat and conservative Republican, black, white, and Hispanic. Don't believe the media when they say he has no support.

Most importantly, vote for the man that you think offers the best solutions for our country.

reply to: khomar
I could CERTAINLY embrace Ron Paul! I teach business and econ to college students... personally, I GET what Ron Paul is trying to say-- we would ALL be FAR better served as Americans if we could tamp down the ulterior agenda open border crowd, globalists, PC ilk, RINOS, and neoCONS, ALL of whom have limited special interest, self-aggrandizing agendas that are opposed to traditional conservative American goals, which include limiting govt. influence and spending and foreign wars unless absolutely necessary.

I have no love lost either for Christian conservatives who seek to impose their perception of morality upon the rest of us. The less centralized determination for all the better. Hence, the very nature of personal freedom and self-determination intended by the collective wisdom of our wise founders.

Primary woes
If the Democrats win the White House in 2008, it is squarely the Republicans' fault for putting together such a poor choice of candidates in the Primary.

Sheesh! I've heard so many people complain about "No true Conservative to vote for!" Is this because a true social and fiscal conservative has no special interest groups to back him?

All of the current crop of GOP candidates have liberal tendencies, but Huckabee and McCain may as well run for the Democratic ticket.

sunrise!
time to wake up..folks! huckster is slipping
as he deserves..his "bunker mentality" was the
finisher of the chicken plucking phony!
time to wake up again...folks! mitt is tied with rudy..NATIONALLY..and he was 4th or worse at one time! this guy has had to overcome many hurdles...being mormon has been a bit of a challenge, being handsome makes a lot of small minded men jealous.dick morris called him a snake oil salesman because of his good looks..small minded morris!thompson dropped a hit about mitts wealth..i guess it is okay if
fred and others have money..but not mitt!
anyway..when all the dust blows away..mitt will be the only one standing! elvis

talking his game
This more of Pat's wishful thinking than objective journalism. But we all know Pat is never objective. He hates Rudy and everything he stands for.

Could Pat be wrong?
I'm a little surprised at Pat's assessment. Surely he understands the South and Southern Baptist better than that. Huck, will not get a win in the Southern primaries. They are full of Southern Baptist delegates that will not vote for a liberal...even a SB preacher. That leaves out Mitt as well...he's a flip flopp'n liberal ex-governor...same as ol' Huck. McCain will not pass the smell test either...I sorta put Huck using his Chritainity to further a political career and McCain using his War Heroism to further a powerful political career...besides he's about a half way turn-coat that's try'n to change his colors to get the conservative vote...ain't gonna work...He'll do well to endorse Fred rahter than the other way around. If Fred doesn't make it in the South and the nominee is not going to be 100% conservative...don't be surprised if Rudy doesn't wind up the nominee...pleople still like what he did during 9ll, and he's tough as hell. Fred/Hunter ticket would be a win,win in '08, will just have to wait and see...but, I for one do not think Iowa and NH are gonna matter a wit.

Socon Fiscon Divorce? PART ONE
USConstitution writes:a true social and fiscal conservative has no special interest groups to back him

These two groups have never had a happy marriage, and I think a divorce is imminent.
Just look at the news covering the new "Texas Poll Tax" that goes into affect in the new year.

Social conservatives promoted and approved an absurdly high tax on strip clubs! Just strip clubs! Many smaller and/or blue collar oriented clubs said they'll have to go out of business. Social cons have no problems with absurd taxes or killing businesses that they personally find "immoral". A fiscal conservative would never support such taxes and certainly not one so absurdly high. The tax requires ALL strip clubs to collect $5.00 per head!

Why stop there. Let's vote in someone like Huck and his minions and they can use punitive taxes to try and rid the world of everything THEY find ungodly and wrong.

Huck and his fellow socon fascists can't legally ban stuff just cuz THEIR religion don't like it, so...the new tactic is to try and price it out of existence. This just results in the well off being the only ones able to enjoy themselves.

Socon Fiscon Divorce? PART TWO
If the evangelical socon movement continues to grow, expect huge per person taxes on R rated movies, rated M video games, condoms, science books, gay bars, womens clinics, comedy clubs where comedians use "bad words", religious literature and products that aren't Christian in nature, sexy lingerie, sex toys, the internet and whatever else the socons have decided to be "anti" about this week.

Let's not forget that the U.S. is losing MILLIONS of dollars in the BUSINESS of online gambling to other nations, because the socons have decided FOR YOU that YOU (as an American) shouldn't be gambling! Jesus wouldn't like it! Same goes for industrial Hemp production and gay marriage. Canada and other nations are making a mint off of these things. Not us.

Why can't socons be happy living THEIR OWN lives by their set of beliefs? If they don't approve of strip clubs, why don't THEY just not go and leave others be? Why the driving passion to FORCE others to live by the same set of beliefs? Is it a misery loves company thing? Is it a "if I can't enjoy it, then noone will" mentality?

I don't understand socons as a political movement? How can the driving force in ones life consist of a deep desire to tell other people how to live their lives? What kind of ego must evangelicalism give people that they think THEIR world view is so right that is needs to be imposed on the masses by government force if necessary?

I Am Still Waiting For A Candidate
to tell me what he is going to do about pork barrel spending and the federal debt. If someone I feel I can trust will commit and outline a plan to doing something, anything about "earmarks" (something like a line item veto that is put to use) to stop members of congress from prostituting themselves for kickbacks, they would have to be a pretty bad liberal like Huck or Rudy to keep me from voting for them.

The national debt and political corruption will be the end of the constitution if we are not careful.

No more "compassionate conservatives"
No to Ron.

NO NO NO to the Huckster.

Barry Sr. Wouldn't Endorse Dr. Paul
From what I know about Barry Goldwater, he new how to recognize the enemy. I don't think he'd blame America for the 9/11 attacks. Holy land, schmoley land, we've been there for almost 100 years. Radical moslems are trying to kill us. The majority of moslems in that region have accepted our presence there because we are business partners, we buy their oil. When your own congress won't let you drill your own oil, you must ensure a steady flow of the world's life-blood. I'm not crazy about any of these guys. I wish Senator Jeff Sessions would throw his hat into the ring, but he may have to be a Governer for that.

I basically agree Mr. Buchanan
And I would be elated if it comes down to a Romney-Huckabee fight to the finish. My money's on Romney, but I always loved an underdog, and I trust Mike more.

Romney comes across as being slick. Consider the lie he got caught in about seeing his father march with MLK Jr in 1963 at Gross Point, Michigan when MLK Jr wasn't there, and then tried to back out of it by claiming it depends on what one means by the word "saw" (sounds almost Clintonian). Also, consider that just a week ago Romney told us that he pulled over to the side of the road and wept when he heard that the Mormon church had fully accepted blacks. Or when he supposedly wept over seeing caskets of American soldiers brought back from Iraq. Seeing Romney at the debates also react when asked whether he believed in the Bible or not was somewhat disconcerting. A simple yes or no would have done, but it looked as if he were making political calculations on the spot before answering. Similarly, he got nailed for saying he wants English only and closing the border, while at the same time advertising in Spanish.

His recent conversions on abortion and gay marriage are welcome, but I'm skeptical, particularly when I hear things like above coming out of his campaign. I'd vote for him if he were the nominee, but if you ask me who I like best, I like Mike.

I think Mike can win over the evangelical base, and reach out to independents with his populist positions. And yes, I do think populist positions are crucial, not simply because I support them, but look at the make-up of the states. Look at Ohio. After losing so many jobs due to free trade, do you think they want to vote for someone who will openly support that, or will have more populist sympathies? Mike's populism can help to lock up the northern heartland, while I think a Romney nomination will mean they stay blue.

Ronald Reagan Tells a Christmas Story:
The hope that we see now could sometimes even be glimpsed in the darkest days of the war. I'm thinking of one special story -- that of a mother and her young son living alone in a modest cottage in the middle of the woods. And one night as the Battle of the Bulge exploded not far away, and around them, three young American soldiers arrived at their door -- they were standing there in the snow, lost behind enemy lines. All were frostbitten; one was badly wounded. Even though sheltering the enemy was punishable by death, she took them in and made them a supper with some of her last food. Then, they heard another knock at the door. And this time four German soldiers stood there. The woman was afraid, but she quickly said with a firm voice, ``There will be no shooting here.'' She made all the soldiers lay down their weapons, and they all joined in the makeshift meal. Heinz and Willi, it turned out, were only 16; the corporal was the oldest at 23. Their natural suspicion dissolved in the warmth and the comfort of the cottage. One of the Germans, a former medical student, tended the wounded American.

But now, listen to the rest of the story through the eyes of one who was there, now a grown man, but that young lad that had been her son. He said: ``The Mother said grace. I noticed that there were tears in her eyes as she said the old, familiar words, `Komm, Herr Jesus. Be our guest.' And as I looked around the table, I saw tears, too, in the eyes of the battle-weary soldiers, boys again, some from America, some from Germany, all far from home.''

That night -- as the storm of war tossed the world -- they had their own private armistice. And the next morning, the German corporal showed the Americans how to get back behind their own lines. And they all shook hands and went their separate ways. That happened to be Christmas Day, 40 years ago.

5 candidates - 1 cause: amnesty!
And in the end the conservatives get to choose between the two pro-amnesty candidates, and the Democrats get to choose between three pro-amnesty candidates.

At last we will get the third worlders on their rightful path to holding a majority in the electorate.

With this election we will have national unity - conservatives and liberals joining forces to deal the death blow to the United States, the last holdout against unchecked governmental control in the world.

Long live the great socialist revolution. May our rulers treat us with mercy!
