A New "New Majority" for GOP?

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

With President Bush reaching new lows in national polls, Christian conservatives threatening to bolt if Rudy is the nominee and the Iraq war bleeding support in Middle America, Republicans are in a funk about 2008.

And understandably and deservedly so.

The war, a product of hubris, born of the smashing triumph in Afghanistan, and ideology, a Wilsonian vision of democratizing the Middle East, has been a disaster for the country, and the party that plunged us into it. And the Bush amnesty for illegal aliens ignited a rebellion that dealt the establishment its worst thrashing in many moons.

Free trade has cost 3 million manufacturing jobs, sent the dollar plunging to peso levels, denuded America of productive capacity and left us dependent on Chinese loans to finance $800 billion trade deficits.

So, are Republicans doomed to defeat in 2008? By no means.

For the performance of the Congress and Democratic field of presidential hopefuls should be troubling to any Democrat with visions of winning back the White House.

Congress has failed to end U.S. involvement in Iraq, or to contain the surge, or impose its formula for fighting the war, leaving the party base in sputtering, exasperated, impotent rage.

Why has Congress failed? Because it is terrified of the possible consequences of imposing its policy. Congress fears Bush may be right -- that a rapid troop withdrawal risks a strategic disaster and humanitarian catastrophe. Having been lacerated for the loss of Eastern Europe to Stalin, of China to Mao, and of Southeast Asia to Hanoi, they desperately do not want to be held responsible for losing Iraq to Islamic radicalism.

On social and cultural issues, Democrats seems to have learned nothing.

In the last presidential debate, at Dartmouth, Bill Richardson said that, as president, he would refuse the honorary chairmanship of the Boy Scouts. Why? Well, the Boy Scouts does not allow homosexual scoutmasters to take Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts on camping trips.

All the Democratic candidates but Hillary favored a federal law banning smoking in public places. Would that mean U.S. attorneys prosecuting bartenders for letting patrons puff away. Are Democrats going to take the nanny state national? Do they think Middle America is Mike Bloomberg's Manhattan?

All the Democratic candidates except Dennis Kucinich favored the Federal requirement that states outlaw drinking by 18-year-olds, which means high school kids who join the Marines can't have a night of beer with their buddies before heading to Anbar.

All the Democratic front-runners favored second-graders being read stories in school about a homosexual marriage between a pair of princes. This would result in the absurdity of 6-year-olds, forbidden by the U.S. Supreme Court from learning about God, Adam and Eve in school, being introduced to sexual unions between Adam and Steve. America is just not that far down that road.

Following the debate, Hillary Clinton proposed giving a $5,000 "baby bond" to every child born in the United States. This would add $20 billion to federal spending yearly, with the main beneficiary being illegal aliens who average more than three babies each.

The message that would go out to the world: If you're pregnant, get a visa and fly to the United States -- or, if you can't get a visa, get across the Mexican border. Because if your baby is born here, you hit the jackpot. The baby is an automatic U.S. citizen and entitled to a $5,000 Hillary "baby bond" you can take back to Mexico, if the feds catch you and boot you out.

In short, Democrats sense their vulnerability on the war and security issue, which is why they are frustrated and floundering in Congress and stiffing the antiwar base of the party. And they remain vulnerable on social and cultural issues, if Republicans have the nerve to hammer them, as Bush's father did in that miraculous summer of 1988, when he turned a 17-point deficit to Michael Dukakis on Aug. 1 into an eight-point lead by Labor Day that he never lost.

If Barack is the Democratic nominee, nervousness over a president three years out of the Illinois legislature will play to the GOP's advantage in wartime. Hillary as the nominee, with 45 percent of the country saying it would never vote for her and the nation given eight months to reflect on whether they want to watch a four-year rerun of the Bill and Hillary Show, would also work to GOP advantage.

Republicans may not have The Gipper around to unite them, but they do have Hillary, which is an excellent second best.

Moreover, of the front-running Republican candidates, all are fresher than Hillary. All could campaign as a "change agent" in the current cliche. But they would need to jettison the Bush legacy: open borders, globalism, interventionism and Big Government Conservatism.

While the battleground states will be the same, the battleground constituency in 2008 is independents and Democrats earning $25,000 to $50,000. Before Bush embraced neoconservatism, they used to be known as Reagan Democrats. Though alienated, they are not yet lost.

The Deciders

The corporate owners of The Unified Establishment Party* are already shifting funding from Rudy to Hillary. They don't care which one wins. They win either way. The RNC and the DNC are two divisions under the same ownership. The cheap labor express will be kept running, regardless of the will of the people.

That is, unless we nominate and elect someone who actually WILL secure the border and enforce the laws. It's up to us to save the GOP from itself and bring it back to its principles. The "handlers" have to be shown the door by voting your conscience in the primaries. Stop listening to the spin and hype, decide for yourself who best represents your values. If a cross-dressing, former mayor of a sanctuary city who marches in gay pride parades reflects your values, vote for Rudy. If that does not reflect your values, figure out who does and vote accordingly. We can nominate someone other than the MSM's choice. It's our country, we are the deciders.

Pat should support Ron Paul
" Moreover, of the front-running Republican candidates, all are fresher than Hillary. All could campaign as a "change agent" in the current cliche. But they would need to jettison the Bush legacy: open borders, globalism, interventionism and Big Government Conservatism."

None of the GOP candidates (except Ron Paul, of course) would dare to break with Bush's Iraq War or any other part of the Bush Doctrine. Because polls show that the Bush foreign policy is still supported by about 65% of the GOP rank-and-file and they're the ones who vote in primaries.

Bloomberg's NY is not NY
Pat is absolutely right to focus on the tyrannical contradictions of the Left: mandatory homosexual indoctrination but no cigarette after sodomy - that's virtue.

However, there is widespread disgust here over the smoking ban and it is regularly ignored after hours at both high-end and grungy bars, cafes. New Yorkers never voted for it and our little mayor never spoke of it before the election. We are no yet California. The irony is that most fags here love their fags.

Republican and Democrat
Politicians alike are not through yet. Now that we have parity with the Canadian dollar through trashing our own, we need only wait until the Peso hits 10 to 1 and presto we will have the Amero. Then we will have reach the point of no return for the USA. Bush. What a trip. Ant twice no less.

The real issue is:
In 2008, America has a decision that will affect the lives of every child in the future. We can turn our backs on Capitalism and the freedom it supports or rewrite the constitution to give government control of every aspect in our lives with the new so called "Progressive" aka "Socialism" movement of the Democrats in Washington.

WE can embrace what millions of Americans fought and died to prevent in the past or we can stand up and say "Enough" This is our only choice in 2008.
Will we make the right one ?

Vote Capitalism or shut up about your freedom.

Globug,
right on the button. Sadly, the left cares not about the future of the country; just acquiring the power to make the unwilling do what they say. Representative government has gone by the wayside. Successful capitalism has been an offshoot of successful democracies for some time. The diversion, or subversion, of capitalistic endeavors by the left will change the course of this country for the forseeable future. My opinion, of course.

Will a Republican win?
I figure they have about 50/50 chance. Bush has done a lot of damage and the smoke hasn't cleared yet.

Socialism Sounds So Good
Help everyone--send all to college, give all free health care, make sure all have a living wage, everyone gets free prescription drugs--there is not one American that could not embrace that kind of ideology. It is like pouring new honey on fresh bread. But wait, examine the facts, someone must provide the bees to make the honey and someone must raise and buy the ingredients to make the bread and then there is the labor necessary to gather the honey and bake the bread. I am no farmer, I hate bees because I am allergic to them, so someone else must do the work and bring the honey dripping bread to me. Socialism is great--bring it on--use your money and labor to fatten my lazy a*s up. Watch me ride across the campus in my health care provided personal 4 wheeled chariot to my free classes to pursue my degree in Basic Concepts of the Communist Economic System. Vote Democrat soon, get your bread and honey while there is still some on the shelf, above all, keep your hand in your neighbors pocket, just be careful what you touch in there; his pocket will soon have a hole in it too.

Buchanan is right, as usual
Pat Buchanan, a fellow paleoconservative, has once again nailed this issue. We can win if we rediscover our roots. Too bad our party gave up its power on its own....by not acting in the interests of its members!

We want values, but we don't want some government version of them forced on us by a big federal government (see my blog). And we want our borders protected...now. Give us this and the Republican will win in a landslide.

Pat right
Congress's, especially the Senate's, mindset is bad also. To cleanse the Republican party and distance it from Big Establishment control and disavow all GWB policies, Republicans should push for impeachment of Bush/Cheney while at the same time orally advocating true conservative principles. Insufficient time remains to accomplish it, but the rhetoric to redeem the party and nation needs to begin immediately, so that Congress can get back to leading and restoring nation (independent of Big Establishment).

A NEW MAJORITY

Hosanna!!!
What a nice change from the usual crepe hanging!
Optimism !! You gotta love it.
Prosit!

Pat right
Congress's mindset, especially Senate, is bad.
To cleanse the Republican party and help distance it from control of Big Establishment and help disavow all of GWB's policies, impeachment of Bush/Cheney should be pursued while Republicans orally advocate true conservative policies, expressly different from Bush/Cheney. Insufficient time remains to implement impeachment, but the time for renewal of mindset and rejection of Big Establishment control is now. It would help party and nation.

Doing so would help in innumerable ways, including helping arrest the total collapse of dollar.

Hunter For America

Republican voters still get to decide who their nominee will be. Money only buys elections when people act like sheep. If 80% of Republicans are indeed seeking a conservative, we can nominate one. Vote in the primaries for Duncan Hunter. The money players won't like it and are trying to convince us only Rudy McRomneyson* can win. Hogwash. They want an open borders candidate. Give Americans a chance to vote for a candidate who WILL secure the border and watch turnout soar. Americans want their government to fulfill it's most basic responsibility.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

Humor Today Shields The Sin of Yesterday
Smile, laugh, cackle. Do all these without cause. Support Hillary and the Democrats without thought or reason. Close your ears to truth--believe your own self generated myth and the aroma of utopia will waft through you. The democrats are viscous, they sleep with a snake (George Soros), they feel protected by his venom and dollars, but living in a snakes pit never provides warmth. Too bad, it seems to me this has happened before--I think it was in Genesis.

HILLARY'S NUMBERS

....Pat ...

.....If 45% of voters say they will never vote for Hillary ...then the Republican candidate only needs 6% of the voters who might vote for her ...

.....I think the Republicans should be able to control their own future by just nominating a pro-life candidate against a woman who actively supports partial Birth abortion ...which even most pro-choicers are against .....COLOSSUS

undecided
I can't make up my mind as who I want for President, Duncan, Tancredo, or Paul. Meanwhile the so-called conservative talk show hosts are telling everyone that Rudy is the only one who has a chance of beating Hillary. I can't support Rudy because I'm afraid he'd turn out to be another Jorge Bush when it comes to illegals. He embraced them when he was mayor of NY and I'm afraid he'd do the same as President. If the next President doesn't stop the invasion from the third world(mainly Mexico) we are doomed as the Great Nation that we once were.

Why is Buchanan so often right?
It is almost scary.

1. Americans are not anti-immigrant, but they don't favor rewarding "illegals" with legal residence or citizenship. They want them to return to their country of origin, and be processed for admittance here legally. They should go to the back of the line. In addition, Americans might even favor temporary cessation of immigration until our nation can absorb the new immigrants...with the exception of highly skilled, educated immigrants needed for our industry, scientific facilities and universities.

2. Americans do favor democracy and representative government. But they are not so naive and simpleminded as to believe in foisting such systems upon persons and nations not suited, nor disposed, for them. And Americans certainly reject using our military...sacrificing our finest and wasting our treasury...to bring freedom to a people who refuse to come together; who continue revel in the gore of sectarian warfare and tribal bloodshed; whose government is so riddled with corruption that it can't account for hundreds of thousands of weapons purchased for it by American taxpayers, and whose government cannot account for the literally billions of U.S. tax dollars spent on its behalf.

I believe Americans are so disillusioned with Bush on immigration and the war that democrats don't have to do much at all in order to be the beneficiaries in Nov. 08. The specter of Bush will be present in November even though he is not on the ballot.

Agree with Buchanan that the demographic group of dems and independents earning between 25-50 grand is essential for any chance at all for GOP to retain the whitehouse.

Buchanan Is Not Right
He is a cut and run peace-nik. He is also a socialist anti-free trade. Buy only American to protect manufacturing jobs!? Oh yah... pay $100 for jeans and a cheap shirt!

Hillary is going to win because Thompson and Romney will split the conservative vote and make Rudy the Republican candidate. Then the Christian right will walk away.

Get ready America, your about to be punished by socialist perverts for the evil you must have. Enjoy your abortions.

Pat MAY Be Right [for a change]
The political analysis is right on as far as the Republicans having a very good chance to win!

The tired old Bush bashing BS, to wit "The war ... has been a disaster for the country ... ". How so? How has anybody's life been changed other than the soldiers who fight to preserve our way of life? Short answer - you couldn't find any significant evidence of change! The economy rolls on, apparently, escaping the notice of Pat and his fellow leftists despite the millions of jobs lost ... but wait, we seem to be adding 100,000 plus jobs A MONTH for the past 5 years now ... to the day almost of the Bush tax cuts! Pat's opinions are not grounded in reality, folks!

However, if we back off and embrace Pat's isolationistic views; we will see fanatics on our doorsteps!

The real real issue
Globug writes that:
"The real issue is:

We can turn our backs on Capitalism and the freedom it supports or rewrite the constitution to give government control of every aspect in our lives with the new so called "Progressive" aka 'Socialism' movement of the Democrats in Washington."

Good stuff Globug but the real real issue is that neither party (or more accurately as it has been stated above "the two divisions of the same party") are going to provide us with such a choice. 2008 is not a choice between capitalism and freedom with one canidiate and socialism and more govt with the other. Instead we have a choice between big big govt with one vote and only big govt with the other. And as the 2000 election demonstrates if one favors really really big big govt, then casting your vote with the Republicans may be the way to go.
Dr. Bob

Here we go again
Trying to decide which of the two evils we will vote for, once again doing the same thing, expecting a different result.

At least some here are beginning to see the hypocrisy of both parties, the lust for power in their souls, the internationalist, one world government agenda they all desire. Some of you recognize evil when you see it, and almost everyone despises the way our great nation is being sold down the river by these do nothing, let's get re-elected, power hungry partisans!

Yet, no one is willing to step up and say it is time to dump the corrupt DEM/GOP/MSM juggernaut that works like a finely oiled machine to keep power in their own hands, the hell with the future of the land of the free.

If anyone votes for any of these elite aristocrats, they are traitors to America, because these hypocrits will pay lip service to the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people at every TV soundbite opportunity, but they will not do what is best for our country.

If you really do care, if you really want to restore those principles I listed above, you need to change how you think, it is really that simple. I urge you to check out my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. Why not? The elites have already stolen our inheritance. Does anyone want to make a serious effort to reclaim it? Thanks, Joe

True Convservative
The war in Iraq has not affected me personally, but I do have compassion for the families that have lost Sons and Daughters. How about the ones coming back without arms or legs?
As for the 100,000 jobs being created a month, didn't the same thing happen during Vietnam? I don't know, I was a young man who served in Vietnam and just did what my leaders told me. It seems as long as the economy is doing good everything is alright, doesn't matter what price we pay as long as you don't have to pay it.
I wonder of the jobs created how many are filled by Americans and how many by illegals or H1B visas? Welcome to the real World the illegals are doing a lot more than just the so called jobs Americans won't do, but the stock market is doing alright so who cares? I don't know how old you are but I'm afraid the day is not far away when you will care but it will be to late!!

GW
Of course, as a conservative, I have compassion and appreciation of the sacrifices being made. However, I don't believe they have been made foolishly; but out of necessity to prevent far worse later.

As for the illegal aliens, the key word is "ILLEGAL" and we should stop letting such flagrant ignoring of the laws continue. Immigration is OK, and probably helps rather than hurts the economy.

I'm far more concerned about socialism destroying the economy of this country than the nearly 30 years of economic expansion and growing wealth of this country under conservative economic principles! Just look at the increase in the GNP [and tax revenues for that matter] since Reagan. And, it is continuing, even accelerating under Bush! Nearly everybody is better off and only a fool can't see that!

True Conservative
True Conservative states, "As for the illegal aliens, the key word is "ILLEGAL" and we should stop letting such flagrant ignoring of the laws continue. Immigration is OK, and probably helps rather than hurts the economy".

Our legal immigration system as designed today unquestionably hurts our economy. Remember the architect of today's system is none other than good old Teddy Kennedy from way back in 1965, and how many things that he has had his grubby little fingers on have turned out to help our economy? Our legal immigration system is overwhelmingly made up of low skilled desperately poor 3rd worlders that are culturally alien to American values -- in a modern day welfare state these people cost more than they contribute regardless of how hard working and honest they may be. Check out Robert Rector's studies to further buttress this argument.

If you are concerned about socialism then you are also concerned about our immigration -- legal and otherwise. The vast majority of these new immigrants vote for liberals/Democrats as they are generally poorer and desire to avail themselves of other people's money. I can't necessarily blame them.

Pat is right
But don't give your voice to a candidate who may be a Rockefeller Republican. Just because the guys with the money are telling you that only Giulani or Romney can win in a National Election doesn't make it true. Virginia Patriot said it better than I can.

There are Conservatives who are trying to be your candidate. Duncan Hunter, yes. But take a look at Mike Huckabee. He's moving up with very little money, grassroots support that growing by word of mouth as people get to know him and what he stands for.

With Huckabee and Hunter, you get the real, true Conservatives. Huckabee has an advantage because he has been Governor. He doesn't waffle to win votes. He gives it to you straight and he's not angry about it.

We need Huckabee as President.

Sammy
Robert Rectors studies don't address the negative impact on corporate profits, and tax revenues from these profits, if illegal workers
where deported and/or denied the ability to work
here. Given the fact that the economy is experiencing full employment levels now, it is most certain that severe labor shortages would occur, particularly in the agriculture and service industries if these workers were removed from the corporate profit-making machines. The only out these industries would have to maintain current profits
in the short term would be to raise prices. Sounds like quite a inflationary brew to me.
Over time, new technologies and adaptations may develop to compensate for the labor shortage, but this would be of little comfort to a middle class family that is shopping for food today or tomorrow and paying much higher prices than they did yesterday.
I can't find empirical evidence that illustrates what percentage of corporate profit and tax revenue is realized from illegal labor, but to me, this is an important question that should be answered.

johnf
johnf, Rector's studies are in fact a comprehensive analysis and do in fact calculate the positive impacts that illegals bring to our economy. He just lays out the even greater costs that they bring.

In a free market economy there is no such thing as a shortage in the long term. There is no question that if the illegals were to magically disappear over night there would be a drastic shock to our economy that has managed to slowly but surely use this massive input of cheap labor through the recent decades. Likewise, if 20 million new illegals suddenly showed up in our country tommorrow there would be an equally disasterous shock to our economy. The point is that a market economy will find a way to allocate scarce resources so that shortages and other shocks to the economy are brought into line. The fact still remains that in a modern welfare state poor uneducated people use more than they give -- whether native born, legal immigrant, or illegal immigrant. We can seek out ways to bring our native born up out of their condition (like through the higher wages that would result from stopping massive waves of immigration), but why would we import more poverty?

As long as the labor is cheap and abundant, business has no incentive to invest in new technologies and mechanizations. There will always be a need for low skilled manual labor, but it is time that business paid the true cost of this labor rather than having taxpayers subsidize these costs. I'd rather pay higher prices for my lettuce, hotel stay, and roofing repair then the higher prices I now pay on my property taxes, health insurance, and auto insurance.

Finally, don't underestimate the damage our economy will suffer from the leftward tilt of our politics as we add this huge ethnic underclass that will demand entitlement spending and big government solutions to correct the "injustices" of our system.

Johnf
Corporate profits? Each family of an illegal costs taxpayers $21K.

With the money I save by booting their butts out, I could easily afford to spend an extra dollar on a head of lettuce.

One question: Who does the work Americans won't do in areas NOT innundated with illegals.

PS: Wherever illegals move, property values tank. Colorado is awash with Californians who are getting out before they lose another $10K on the value of their property. Illegal immigration has been a boon for the housing market here because no US citizen wants to live in a neighborhood that resembles Tijuana. But the illegals moving to CO to build houses for Californians are wrecking the property values in parts of my state as well.

Rector's study doesn't take this into account either. Your "corporate profit" fears fall flat, but your viscious circle continues to roll.

PPS: If I had my way, the CEO's of corporations who hire illegals would be placed in shackles and orange jumpsuits. They'd be forced to do the "perp walk" in front of tv and newspaper cameras. I wonder how that'll affect the bottom line?

CUT & RUN BALONEY
We should not even be in Iraq to begin with. What does "victory" in Iraq mean? Given a true vote vast majority of Iraqis want us gone. The U.S. should try and get Iraq's neighbors to help us clean up the mess we made-the war was based on LIES.
No connection to 9-11 was ever proven. No nuclear program, no WMD. Saddam was just a mediocre dictator with a broken down military who didn't even control 2/3 of his country-the no fly zone

Smally and Plumber
Smally,
From Rector's study posted by the Heritage Foundation:
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/tst052107a.cfm
This is the section where Rector discusses the possible benefits - corporate tax revenues - that are generated from illegal labor.
You'll find this under the section titled "Possible Indirect Benefits".

"Since low-skill immigrants earn about two percent of all wages in the U.S. economy, this might coincide with a two percent increase in business profits and capital income. If this were the case, the result would be a roughly $11 billion increase in federal state and local revenue from a variety of different taxes; this indirect tax gain would amount to roughly $2,500 per low-skill household.[33] This should be considered a very preliminary estimate.
Again the difficulty with this calculation lies in the assumption that all the capital invested in the employment of low-skill immigrants represents a net increase rather than a reallocation of capital stock. Because of the uncertainty involved in this calculation, these indirect revenue figures have not been included in the main fiscal tabulations presented in this paper."

I have read this section repeatedly and don't grasp the logic. How can he extrapolate the amount of corporate tax revenue generated (11B)
from illegal labor based on the percentage of total wages that are paid to low skilled workers?
It seems to me that it's a leap to conclude that 2% of corporate profits are the direct result of
illegal labor simply because illegals labors share of the total wages paid in this country are 2%.

Plumber,
I have made tidy profits investing in real estate
in heavily Hispanic areas where it would be fair to say many of the residents are probably illegal. All of the profit was derived from appreciated property values.

Economy not good to all
From my perspective, the economy is "spun" to be good, with globalization making 1/3 rich, and 2/3s are suffering; some --aroung 1/3-- big time. Government stats now "lie". My barber in upscale part of my big city affirms the same perspective from most of his clients. With current policies of outsourcing, we are destined for economic ruin. The Senate is not even engaged in discussion about the collapse of the dollar, because Big Establishment wants us to attack every potential foe of Israel. Big Establishment has sold this country down drain, and every tribe but my own is promoted so much on television that I will likely drop cable. Those with 80 IQ will not be rioting because their entire families are grossly disproportionately in governement employment, which is the new, unpublicized and more costly welfare.
However, economics do not matter when it comes to changing the demographics, immigration, torture, use of nuclear weapons, the prohibition against publication of any fact or item adverse to elite agenda, including smoking guns from 9/11 or adverse effects of tribalims on govt or justice system. We need to fight for the Constitution and all founding principles, and recognize the disaster of multiculturalism, and reverse course. The enemy is the mainstream media, virtually all existing politicians (Ron Paul excluded) and the elite Big Establishment. In my judgment, ugly Americans include all who view their loyality to a foreign country and all who have evinced tribalism in their jury duty and votes, and all who feel that money power should be used to defeat truth and justice.

calculating income
Not sure but, the S.S. administration puts all payroll tax in an account for "unknown" workers. 9 million have used the number 000-00-0000 and 1.5 million more a duplicate.

They also say that all the legal workers money goes out from payroll taxes and the surplus (about 10%) is from illegals. Now, again, that too is just what is from workers with forged or stolen S.S. numbers but, they can use that to calculate about how much of GDP is coming from illegals, probably.

We are bankrupt as a nation and illegals are currently funding our trust funds and virtually 100% of loans to fund our deficit spending is coming from Japan, China, Russia, OPEC, India, S. Korea, Taiwan, etc. 93% of our currency reserves are in the hands of those six nations (not counting Saudi Arabia which is also large). Foreign loans and illegal labor propping us up. Doesn't look good, does it. The GOP doesn't have a chance unless its leadership changes because the current GOP won't support anybody that doesn't follow its lead on how they think this nation needs to be run. The party needs reform before it can reform the nation's government.

The only thing they have in their almost empty box of economic and political weapons is the democratic party itself. Only the fact they will spend more, and cut defense and raise taxes to pay for it, will work in the GOP's favor. Take the Prescription drug program or No Child Left Behind that the democrats hate. They have a different plan but, it costs as much and more. They just say they can pay for theirs with tax hikes and cuts in defense spending or things the they would replace with other expensive programs.

Have you heard the news?
Remember when many Republicans got angry with the Party pushing the Bush/Kennedy amnesty and re-registered independent or decline-to-state as a protest? Well, the Party has decided to punish them by denying them the right to vote in the Republican presidential primaries in a number of states, including the mega-state, California. This practically guarantees a Giuliani win for the nomination. Ron Paul will be shut out and the other conservatives haven't a prayer.

The result will be a re-run of the 1992 election, with conservatives staying home or voting Third Party. The Republican Party wants this. They did quite well while Bill Clinton was in the White House. They expect to do the same when Hillary takes the oath of office.

anti-opponent = loss
In 2004 Kerry ran as not-Bush and lost.

In 1996 Dole ran as not-Clinton and lost.

In 1984 Mondale ran as not-Reagan and got obliterated (and thats putting it nicely)

Seeing a pattern? Belief in one's own nominee is far more stimulating to voters then hating the other guy/gal. If republicans are planning a not-Hillary strategy, then they will lose.

Play to your strength, Republicans
Conservative Replublicans shouldn't worry overly much about 08. They can hang on to the Presidency, especially if my party nominates Hillary. With the proper spin, virtually any Republican nominee can beat Hillary. All you have to do is play the gay marriage card, make your stand on illegals clear and unambiguous, find every occasion possible to campaign from the high ground of religious values, do some serious swift-boating of the Democratic candidate. Just remember, everyone, and I do mean everyone, in public life has skeletons in their closets or a wide-spread stance in the men's room, or their name on some Washington madam's list of heavy rollers, and we haven't even got to female candidates yet. You'll do well with the American people if you go all out to degrade, humiliate, and embarass any and all Democrats. Ann Coulter should be your model for all this. Stick with her sterling example, and you'll have to really screw up to lose.

No, I'm not being ironic.

Gestell
Thanks for your description of Hillary Whateverherlastnameis and her Presidential strategy. As a non-Buchanan fan, I believe he is full of Luddite principles, but your candidate is worse. She slams a General who was unanimously selected several months before, calling him a liar.

As far as 2004, your candidate Swiftboated himself. These men were NOT a put-up job, but were veterans on other boats who said your candidate was lying. Remember he promised right after the election to release his military records. Well, we're waiting, and that is what will happen to Hillary's promise of releasing donor records to Bill the Prevaricator's Library.

What separates us is that the Republicans believe in the American people and that this country still has a shining future. Democrats still live in a dark and dismal past where they dig up ails which MUST be solved by more Government. When you the look at Walter Reed Hospital, run by the Government bureaucracy, and compare it to Johns Hopkins, you can see why we don't want more of your brand of country.

Great article
To repeat a post on another thread, the Republicans need a New Contract With America.

It needs to cover:

Amnesty

Pork Spending

Fiscal responsibility

Conservation

and probably a few things I have left out.

They need to do it before the Dems beat them to the punch. And they need to force Hillary to take a stand on Amnesty. How will 100 million new Americans affect energy and resource consumption, crime, and deficit spending? She will lose on this issue.

Here's to the New Contract With America!!!

Nick in Austin
Amen, brother. The key to beating HRC is to make her play defense. The GOP will never be able to win trying to play on her turf, i.e. healthcare, etc. She has endorsed some policies that are quite unpopular, amnesty and no border security topping the list.

Nancy
I like Mike Huckabee as a person, he's very likable, however he wants "regularization" for our "guests". Another amnesty will set off a stampede making the last 20 years and 20 million look like chump change. We have to draw a line in the sand. No amnesty.

Virginia Patriot
Just why the Bush family and a lot of other RINOs think the place to seek votes is trying to take leftists away from Hillary is incomprehensible. Have they no memory? The Reagan landslide is still here, only moreso, expanded by departures from DEM ranks of anti-amnesty voters. Pols are not just churlish, they are foolish as well. Why dosen't someone pick up the gauntlet? Gutless wonders.

Nick in Austin...
It is amazing that you can survive in that liberal sink hole. I agree with you and admire your ability to stay sane.

GOP has a chance?
If they "jettison" the Bush legacy...open borders, globalism, interventionism, big gov...

All the top tier candidates support the whole agenda, destruction of our country & creation of NAU.

Honestly, corporate interests do not need the Rep party. They own democrats too.

I'm voting for Duncan Hunter in primaries, but I think we are toast.

Ron Paul Last Hope For The GOP?

Is Ron Paul the only hope for conservative anti-war Republicans? Can the GOP win in 08 without Ron Paul?

Buichanan the fascist
"Free trade has cost 3 million manufacturing jobs, sent the dollar plunging to peso levels, denuded America of productive capacity..."

Total BS. This simply indicates why Buchanan is as much a statist as Bush. To the extent that America has lost jobs and productivity, and seen the dollar plunge, is entirely the fault of a government under the Republican party rule that has grossly gotten more expensive. Something Buchanan would further if he were ever president. Thankfully, that will never happen.

for CATastrophe
CATastrophe writes: "Bush has done irreparable damage to our country and our Party; we need to nut it up and cut him loose. He has destroyed everything he has touched in his life, and that now includes our country and Constitution."

Unfortunately, a political party can never break with its own standard-bearer, without splitting the party wide open between those who remain loyal to the standard-bearer and those who want to bolt. Polls consistently show that most rank-and-file Republicans do not want to bolt from Bush.

When an insurgency has developed against the standard-bearer of the party, the result is only to split and weaken the party, helping to defeat it in the upcoming election.

That was true in 1968, when Eugene McCarthy led an insurgency against his own party's incumbent, Lyndon Johnson; and it was true in 1980, when Ted Kennedy led an insurgency against his own party's incumbent, Jimmy Carter. Neither insurgency succeeded in overthrowing the incumbent; but each helped lead to an electoral defeat by the opposition party.

for Virginia Patriot
Virginia Patriot claims: "The Reagan landslide is still here, only moreso"

PROVE IT.

The polls, the demographic surveys, suggest otherwise.

It's been 28 years since the Reagan candidacy began. In that time period, Hispanics have become the fastest-growing voting bloc in America; and single women, many with children, are now a large and growing voting bloc in America too. Minorities are moving into the suburbs in increasing numbers, turning the suburbs more Blue (a big reason why Allen went down to defeat in Virginia in 2006).

Those voter cohorts tend to vote Democratic. Single women are Hillary's strongest supporters, in fact.

And for the first time in 20 years, polls show that a clear majority of Independent voters now intend to vote Democratic. (In every election through 2004, Independent voters split more or less evenly between Dem and GOP candidates.)

Who Will Answer The Call?
It would seem to me that a country made up of a people that are still free enough to get access to information would be able to discern good from bad.

It is obvious that tax cuts work; they leave more money in our pocket while producing revenue. So, support a candidate that supports tax cuts.

It is obvious that entitlements are bankrupting America, so support a candidate that is willing to overhaul entitlements.

It is obvious that Social Security is in serious trouble. It has been used for purposes other than what it was created for, and is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Fund it for those retiring who have paid in all there lives and move to something else for the rest of the labor force.
Support a candidate that will pledge to do that.

It is obvious that the borders need to be sealed. It needs attention now, not 25 years from now.
Illegal immigration is one of the most serious concerns we are facing at this time.
Schools are being filled faster than we can build them; crime is increasing due to violent illegals, and our system can not deal with it.
Support a candidate with a plan to do it now.

It is obvious that the educational system is broken and has been for decades.
We need reform which will produce results, not more money thrown at it.
Support a candidate that will give us a workable plan.

Who Will Answer The Call?
One of the most important issues we are dealing with is the most unpopular.
How do we protect ourselves against foreign threat?
It’s there whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

If someone brings a nuke into this country and detonates it, who are you going after, Iran, Saudi, Russia, China, Korea, Pakistan, Libia.
We will loose more lives in 30 seconds than all the lives lost in the Korean War.
If America is hit with enough force, its economy is going to collapse.

Just because wars are not fought correctly, does not mean that they weren’t necessary.
Passivity is not a good approach for those with a desire to survive as a free people.
We as a nation no longer have the luxury of waiting until we are attacked on our soil by a uniformed military force.
We must adopt means to defeat threats.
Covert operations are always going on to eliminate threats, but you can’t always depend on them.

So, you need a candidate that isn’t going to roll over and beg, buy, and talk peace at any cost.
Diplomacy hasn’t seeming worked to well with some nations.
These subjects seem to polarize voters, so they stay away from them.
But they are important issues to me.

foxfire 22-- good question
So long as Israel is unaccountable for violations of international law and human rights, and so long as we support it without any conditions against criminal and illegal behavoir, we will be a target. Extremists control Israel, which may embarass most Zionists, but virtually all Zionists believe that use of monetary power to suppress truth and justice is a legitimate use of power. Most others disagree.
You are correct that these are very hard issues, but many of the most intelligent people in this country see their direct link to: Iraq war, current diplomat teams touring Europe for approval of attacks on Iran and Syria (see Telegraph british newspaper onlne), encouragement of use of Nuclear weapons, Elite or Big Establishment money power controlling both parties, excaberation of 9/11 and cover up, so much partisianship in editing of mainstream media and in indoctrination of most politicians. So truth is rare commodity, and some tribes are just not interested in it if it adversely affects their goals. These tribal realizations circumvent founding principles of country. So it is huge problem and media, virtually all columnists and politicians ignore it, and do so as we spin out of control increasingly toward evil. Thanks for reading.

You are right! We cannot win with an anti-opponent campaign. The strategy should be whether the opponent's plans on main issues offers a proven to work solution.

What are the main issues? Does the opponent address them? If yes, then how? Is the "how" a proven solution?

1. 85% of Americans wants English as the official language. Democrats oppose.

2. 89% of workers unions want a secret ballot voting system before the state of the union. Democrats oppose.

3. 80% of Americans wants a flat income tax or a fair fax. Democrats oppose and promises increases in taxes.

4. 80% of Americans wants smaller a government. Democrats promise a huge expanded government with the consequence of higher taxes.

I do not know yet the % of American support for the following:

5. Conservatives wants schools to teach US History and American Values to new immigrants. Democrats oppose.

6. Conservatives wants ABSOLUTE border security/control NOW! Democrats want open borders and amnesty for the illegals.

7. Conservatives wants to keep the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Democrats want to change the definition of marriage to mean the union of two persons without regards to gender. Democrats want to include "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" ?as immutable traits at a par with other immutable traits in our Civil Rights.

8. Conservatives wants to put "God" back into the Pledge of Allegiance. Democrats took it out and oppose to put it back in.

(To be continued)

(Continuation)

...

9. The War on Terror is an ideological war where we are going to be involved for many decades if not centuries. Democrats want to raise a white flag on terror, pull out our troops from Iraq and accuse Republicans for whatever happens thereafter to Iraq or to America.

10. Democrats keep repeating that there was no WMD in Iraq when we removed Saddam Hussein in 2003, but we know they used WMD against Iran, the Kurds in the past, but Saddam never allowed the UN a complete verification he got rid of WMD. "Me" believe the brief cases full of ampoules with biochemical agents left or were hidden long time before we liberated Iraq from Saddam's regime.

You mean The People's Republic of Austin? It's the state capitol and is full of lawyers and lobbyists and students. So yeah, it leans left, but it has hills, trees, rivers, lakes and is surrounded by Texans who don't depend on the government for their livelihood.

Besides, there's just that many more who, after four years of Fred Thompson as President, will say, "Wow, were we ever wrong."

SteveL
40% of the people eligible to vote last time did not bother. And that was a high turnout year. Give people something to vote for, like getting to keep their country, and they will bother to vote. The lesser of two weasels is not going to work. Rudy as the nominee will push turnout down if there is not a 3rd party challenge.
