Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- The traveling, never-ending campaign roadshow came home this week. The president of the United States is back in Washington from his "I like you, you like me" excellent adventure in Europe and "surprise" trip to Baghdad. It was nice of POTUS to thank the troops. He should have bowed to them instead of to King Abdullah.

Members of the O-Team -- recovering from late-night teleprompter edits, grand parties and jet lag -- now deny that the apparently obsequious gesture to the Saudi king was really a "bow." Perhaps it would be better described as a "curtsy."

Whatever it was -- the Arab press applauded the moment as servile -- it was keeping with the administration's "apologize for America first" message. Given what else happened this week, the incident may turn out to be as trivial as giving the queen of England a Chinese-made iPod as a gift from the American people.

While Mr. Obama was basking in the adulation of carefully selected Euro-crowds and genuflecting to foreign potentates (or simply "bending because he is so tall"), other (SET ITAL) really (END ITAL) bad things were happening. The North Koreans defied his warnings of "severe consequences" and test-launched a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile. In Tehran, the ayatollahs ignored his Utopian plea for "the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons" and claim to have turned on 7,000 more centrifuges to refine uranium. Somali pirates "dissed" his "deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world" and hijacked an American-flagged vessel in the Gulf of Aden.

The O-Team was so exercised over the first piracy of an American-flagged merchant vessel since 1866 that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton fired off a full rhetorical volley. While the crew was busy retaking the ship, she said that "we're deeply concerned" and "following it closely" and that "the world must come together to end the scourge of piracy."

More telling than the vacuous hot air blowing from London, Prague, Ankara, Baghdad and Washington was the defense budget presented this week. It assures adversaries and allies alike that we will be unprepared to fight a serious adversary in the future. Hollow talk, empty oratory and impossible dreams are now commonplace in American politics, but the O-Team's Euro-expedition may have set a new foreign fantasy record. Actions speak louder than words -- no matter how flowery the rhetoric.

In Prague, Mr. Obama's speechwriters dropped into the teleprompter this last-minute observation: "Just this morning … North Korea broke the rules once again by testing a rocket that could be used for long-range missiles." He then noted, "This provocation underscores the need for action, not just this afternoon at the U.N. Security Council but in our determination to prevent the spread of these weapons."

Perhaps if they had more time, his wordsmiths wouldn't have included the pivotal words "once again" to remind us that nothing the U.N. Security Council has done to date has deterred the North Koreans in any way from doing whatever they please in regard to building nuclear weapons or ICBMs. Mr. Obama might as well have mentioned that you can't say the word "unproductive" without using U.N.

Genocidal despots, such as those ruling in Pyongyang and Tehran, never have cowered in fear of a nonbinding U.N. Security Council resolution, because they know that the U.N. has raised irrelevance to a new level. They do, however, pay attention to reality -- such as what we're buying to defend ourselves.

Unfortunately, less than 24 hours after Mr. Obama mentioned the North Korean "provocation" and Iran's "dangerous pursuit of nuclear weapons," his defense budget revealed how seriously he takes those and other threats. The O-Team intends to reduce our ability to project power overseas and to protect the American people from nuclear attack.

If the Obama defense budget is approved as submitted, we will increase spending on protecting our troops ashore and fleet at sea from attack by ballistic missiles carrying weapons of mass destruction but cut homeland ballistic missile defense by $1.4 billion. We will increase the number of small "littoral support ships" but reduce our ability to project power from the sea by cutting our carrier fleet from 12 battle groups to 10. We will not modernize ground combat mobility for the Army or the Marines, and POTUS will have to wait a few more years for a new helicopter.

Thankfully, the new budget does include much-needed funding for housing and facilities vital to our war fighters and their families. It also purchases more unmanned aerial vehicles and future F-35 multi-mission aircraft than originally contemplated, but it cuts the production line for the already proven F-22.

Taken together -- the towering teleprompter talk and the hard realities of what Mr. Obama is willing to spend on defense -- we had better pray that he is right. But then, this is Easter season -- and a good time to pray.

prayer
Prayer wasn't enough to him keep out of the oval office. Since I know that GOD is with us in our darkest hour, I'm guessing that it's going to get alot darker before enough will hit their knees to end this one.

Prayer
You keep praying while the left keeps organizing, voting and recruiting new Americans to their team. The demographics are pointing towards a very long period of increasing Democratic majorities.

Prayer .. To Whom?
Ollie, don't you know this isn't a Christian nation any more? The Messiah and his propaganda arm Newsweek said so .... So whom to we pray to? Oh Yea, we pray to the smiling countenance of The Anointed One! Now he ain't gonna answer any prayers, but Rev Wright might appear on high, telling us to count our chickens!

Seriously ... The Barbarians are at the gate, and the gatekeeper just gave them the key.

God ... My CHRISTIAN God .... Protect us from this fool!

The Second protects the rest

F22's
Ollie, If I'm correct, the main purpose of the U.S. Constituion, is to make sure that the government's number one priority is to protect this country and the people. The federal tax's that americans pay are for the sole purpose of protecting the U.S. If the government spends one cent less than what is required to provide ABSOLUTELY the most perfect defense and offense possible, it should be held in contempt of the U.S. Constitution. And, the officials responsible should be removed from office.

Who?
With a demoCRAP congress and a demoCRAP senate, other than a sniper, and that's illegal, is going to remove a demoCRAP HALFrican-American pres.?

Presidents and Kings
God has raised up kings for a blessing, and for punishment, when His people went astray, as they did so regularly in the Old Testament times. It is not hard to guess why BHO was elevated to the presidency. He isn't likely to be a blessing to God's people.

Unbelieveable
http://jeannieology.wordpress.com/

Thank you Col. North for writting this.
Obama bows to the King of Saudi Arabia and then calls the Country that has done nothing but allow him every advantage in life. Obama is beyond being a Self absorbed Ingrate. Luckily there are enough People left in this Country that believe like I do that Obama is out after his twisted 4 Year social experiment.

Real Leadership
Our Country needs REAL leadership, unfortunately most Americans seem intent on making our election process a popularity contest, not an election of qualified leaders. As in the American Revolution, the leaders are going to have to come forward to help guide us back to the Nation our Founders intended.

There are millions of us out here praying for that leadership, someone we can follow, stand behind, and, if need be, to fight with, to take our Nation back. Maybe that is what God is waiting for, someone to take the lead?

Men like Oliver North come to mind...

Amen Colonel North
The idea that he bows to Saudi royalty is so offensive to me. And it's FAUX royalty at that.Barry Dunham is the perfect Dhimmi!

As for our troops and Barry's visit...,hmmm.As you know Col. North, the soldier must respect the office,if not the man. I wish Barry could have known what so many of our soldiers were REALLY thinking while they smiled politely and shook his hand.

Go Ollie
A curtsy is exactly what someone no BALLS!! does in front of royality!

I Agree with LC from MD
I too wish the troops could have told Obama what they were really thinking. That the president of the US should bow to a two-bit, low life, dictatorial scum of a "faux king" speaks volumes.

God help us and the troops thru what appears to be a very long 4 years.

Well Said, ChristyB!
It is difficult to understate the positive influence Colonel North has had upon this nation; he is a leader among leaders, a hero for the ages. There are those of us who remember the summer of 1987, when we saw what was only the second national leader to have emerged in our lifetime (Reagan was the first). Since then there have been others, but none so morally grounded and articulate as Colonel North. May he continue to soar on wings like eagles and may God continue to bless him and his family.

And we need his leadership now more than ever, as our nation is run by a God-hating narcissist reminiscent of some of the worst kings of the Old Testament. But God has not forgotten us and we should take comfort in His promise to us, applicable now as then:

Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

May we not have to endure, as the prophet Isaiah did, our country’s destruction.

Mr. North--expertise in......?
Lying to Congress and hosting cable shows about soldier bravery-- expertise in foreign relations this does not make.

President Obama is repairing the damage done to the reputation of the United States during the Bush years. Al Qaeda recruitment will go down with the Obama Administration since we won't be unnecessarily invading and torturing Muslims. His 4% increase in the military budget and choices to fight our enemies rather than the Cold War is pragmatic and defense minded. (I appreciate his choice of Robert Gates.)

By the way, the Left is very upset about increasingly military spending, not pursuing legal action against torturees, and many other things about Obama. I could do without the bow, but Obama is doing very well.

DCR
As the wife of a service member I am deeply offended by your comments, freedom requires sacrifices, what have you done for the freedom you enjoy? Mr North is a patriot and yes all of you here who dont agree with his comments have the right to disagree but not by insulting our forces. The Mr. Obama who bowed to a
Saudi King, whose Muslim heritage is clearly evident by the reverense he showed to said king does not deserve a single drop of the blood our young men in uniform are shedding to guarantee fools like you and the moron in the white house, are currently enjoying. Mrs. Maj Ramsey.

Mrs. Ramsey
My point is not that Oliver North or any other service member has not made sacrifices---but that his flag waving and jingoistic comments are no basis for a critique of Obama's foreign policy.

I consider myself pro-military, especially when I support justifiable military action which protects us--Afghanistan--and oppose wars of choice that hurt our interests--Iraq.

Why are you offended? Our culture seems to be full of those offended by honest disagreement.

DCR - Lack of research
DCR it took me less than 30 seconds to find out Oliver North has a silver star, bronze star, and two purple hearts. So now please change the argument from his opinion shouldn't be heard to just wrong?

Those were not awarded for community organizing or chasing skirts at Oxford.

I agree with your support for justifiable military action. I was against it in Bosnia, Somalia and bombing aspirin factories. You on the same page?

DCR Wi.
Mrs. Ramsey was offended because what you engage in is NOT honest disagreement. You engage in disagreement that stems from your ignorance.

The idea that you are for a "justifiable" war like the one in Afghanistan, but are "opposed" to the "war of choice" in Iraq ,is proof provided by you, that I am correct.

The next time you hit the mall, instead of spending all your time at Abercrombie's, save a little time to visit a bookstore. Pick up an Atlas.Look at where these countries are located. Perhaps you could also purchase Bridget Gabrielle's book "Because They Hate". It's a good primer to start with before the heavier tomes.Get your learn on DCR.

My question to you DCR is this; Why have Al Quaeda and other Islamofascist groups fled the "Unjust" war in Iraq and moved to Afghanistan to fight a "Just" war?

Honest disagreement happens when BOTH sides have an understanding of what they are disagreeing about!

DCR
It's great that you are "pro-military" (and I take you at your word) but Col. North is "actual" military. His service as a Marine in Viet Nam afforded him experience and insights that all of us who didn't serve (I was too young) do not have. His experience in the Reagan administration - much maligned and impugned by the Left and MSM - which required security clearances, gave him access to info 99.9% of us don't have.

I would love to see you debate Col. North about any number of foreign relations topics to see who is more knowledgeable. Perhaps FOX News would entertain your challenge?

Don
Oliver North's military service is commendable. That service does not mean he has expertise in foreign policy.

I realize Townhall, like Huffington Post, does not rely on expertise, but who taps into the emotions of its readers. That is unfortunate for both right and left.

I supported intervention in Bosnia to stop genocide. The intelligence on the Sudanese terrorist aspirin production facility was flawed--I am not against pain killers.

LC
Mrs. Ramsey was deeply offended at my ignorance? I doubt it. I suspect that she respects Oliver North and his service, and likewise all those who serve in the US military, and since they have and are putting their lives on the line they are beyond reproach except in the most extreme cases. Well, I don't agree.

It looks at though, for the near future of course, A Qaeda is here to stay. A small group of Al Qaeda will travel, and plan, and attack. I believe the response is contain and win hearts and minds, not invade and torture. Iraq was not a direct threat to our national security, we should not have invaded it--preemption is a dangerous and paranoid policy. We may have to endure some attacks in the future--but we should not become an angry and fearful people. More have died avenging 9/11 than were killed that day--and at the cost of over a trillion dollars and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi lives. Obama is right and Cheney is wrong.

DCR You failed the quiz.
You came no where near to answering my question.Your grade is F!

You continue to show off your complete lack of knowledge about the war on Islamofascism. You are a good Dhimmi.

Your statement that Iraq(Saddam?) was not a threat is just wrong.

You beat your breast for the fallen soldiers. It shows that you have no understanding of the Brave, VOLUNTARY, Military that serves this nation. They get it. You don't. You say you support the troops. How? My ESP tells me that your support has been nothing but Lip Service.

8000 people have been murdered on our Mexican border in the last two years. That is a higher death count than soldiers killed in BOTH Afghanistan AND Iraq since 2001!Hmmm. Do you know how many soldiers have died "AVENGING" September 11, 2001? (QUICK Google it!)I doubt it.

You see absolutes. If Barry Dunham is right it makes Cheyney wrong. If Cheney is right it makes Barry Dunham wrong. How juvenile.

We have not become an angry and fearful people. It seems to me that the only angry and fearful people are Barry Dunham, his administration, and our DEMOCRATIC Congress!

DCR I reiterate...,this time with an expletive.Put down your HOPE and CHANGE, YES WE CAN sippy cup and get your DAMN learn on Brother!

LC
Read Paul Kennedy's "Rise and Fall of the Great Powers"---export of manufacturing base and unaffordable wars bring down great powers. Well, my friend, your fixation on "Islamofascism" is myopic and destructive--we can't just kill our way out of this one.

You sound very angry to me---right away you go to attacks and "grading." Research is finding the truth, searching for internet facts and a book or two to support one's perspective.

Mrs. Ramsey
I just wanted to let you know that, as a fellow military spouse, I KNOW that you can speak for yourself.

It's just that DCR posts in such ignorance I had to respond.

The only thing I will add is....,HOOfrreakingAH!!!!!!!!

HONOR DUTY COUNTRY

DCR
You are no different than the other cajoneless liberals that post here. You live in the greatest country in the world. You do not recognize it.

Your ilk drives around in S.U.V.s with bumper stickers that read,"I'm already against the next war",with no idea of the blood and treasure already sacrificed to keep you in your S.U.V..

I am not angry. I love my country. I revel in it's uniqueness.

If I have any anger it is only directed at people like you.

You're lazy. You do not seek truth or knowledge. And yet you are smug and sanctimonious in your ignorance. My anger,if that is what you want to call it, is because I cannot understand that.

LC
First off, I don't own an SUV, don't shop at Abercrombie, don't have that bumper sticker, etc. Why presume to know so much when you know so little about me. Thinking in stereotypes has its downsides.

You aren't angry, just at citizens with whom you disagree? Well, I love our democracy and our freedom. I suspect we disagree on just about everything, but I will try not to insult you. You are a fellow citizen doing what you believe is just, right, and true. Me too.

DCR
Spoken like a true lib. Barry Dunham would be so proud of you!

No answers, just denial..,no substance...,just air.

I reiterate DCR...,get your learn on. You are far to specious. No wonder you saw nothing wrong with Barry's bow!

You say you think that we disagree on everything but you will not insult me? How proud Barry would be...,and Jimmy too.

Disagreement is NOT insult unless one side comes from ignorance.

You say you love your democracy and your freedom? The problem is that you have no idea how you got it and you have no clue that you are probably LOSING it!If I have ANY anger at all it is with dimwits like you who will take me down with you! UGH!!!!!!!!

The many always suffer for the few.

LC
What freedom am I losing? Be specific--three things that I am losing that warrant your fear and anger.

(My arguments may be specious in your view--but I am not an adjective.)

DCR - I've got to split this up
Was away from the computer. First funny response on the pain killers. Enjoyed it.

Would like to discuss world view a bit. I believe we should not go to war unless there is a compelling national interest at stake. Nation building and genocide don't pop up in the constitution.

If we as citizens want to grab our AR-15, strap on some boots and trot off to Bosnia the government should not get in our way. We should not force our military guys to kill others for items not in our interest.

Sounds cold, I know, but it is a defendable position that can be applied and repeated, rather than determined upon emotions or the news media's focus. Bosnia yes, Iraq no, Sudan maybe, China oh boy...

DCR - second portion

I'd like for our leaders and our country to be consistant on all fronts. Bosnia's genocide was over estimated somewhere about 10 to 20 times. To make this acceptable, is it the size of the genocide or just how much the correction costs.

Iraq if you looked at it in the same way could be justified under the genocide arguement. Don't know if there was more in Bosnia or Iraq of the government killing noncombatiants but if it OK for one then why not another. If OK for two then why not all. Police of the world?

You can make an argument that patronizing the militant islamists under Bush the father and Clinton gave us increased attacks. So why play nice now?

The Iraq war. You can make an argument that Sadam with a nuclear tipped 1000 mile scud could dictate the flow of oil. A potential huge impact on the US.

Meaning no disrespect, could you comment on your stance. The generalizations of;
No war unless there is a Dem president (Kennedy, Johnson, etc) Kennedy gets away pretty much unscathed for the killing of huge numbers of US citizens in Vietnam
or
No war unless we have no national interest. If it is to help the other guy and we get nothing out of it. Some really don't care that much about blowing things up and killing people as long as we don't benefit.

You won't have an argument with me about the flawed political working of the Iraq war. But we may disagree. If we loose our guys to go into harms way, WIN. Japan and Germany are now normal countries because the pain was so great they had to surrender and become part of the civilized world.

Col.North
You Sir have brought back to the forefront what our elected representatives have forgotten. It is an American trait to tell those you love what they don't want to hear, when they need to hear it the most. It is a cornerstone of American culture and I don't believe it ever left, no matter what the press says.

The press and the Government know what they don't to want to hear......or print...the fact that your not alone in your conviction

...and Sir?
if I was a young soldier, and listened to what I just read....given the proper protocol......I would just turn, walk away in silence, with a warm heart and a huge smile inside.........

dcr-WI
Sir/Mam/it--I post on this thread regularly but not extensively and I GENERALLY DO NOT berate or intentionally offend ANYONE!! But I must tellU, that I as a 25+ Year Retiree of the Korea/Vietnam era, I consider U to be, at best, a seriously deluded PEACENIK and at worst, AN IDIOT!! Do U live right in Madison??

Don Pt. 1
I believe "national interest" would be served if the US used judgment and skill in slowing or stopping genocide. A Sudanese in a Chad refugee camp with family decimated by rape and murder deserves a humanitarian response--that is a moral imperative. Depending on the situation I would support using troops to protect these families. The good will and moral authority that would result from a humanitarian foreign policy certainly would serve our national interests. As a nation we are not there--meaning we are primarily a materialist, self-righteous and egoist culture--like most societies.

Of course, you are right that a certain reading of the Constitution would preclude much of US post-WWII foreign policy. In fact, had Hitler not declared war on the US, FDR would have had to successfully create an earlier version of LBJ's Gulf of Tonkin.

Don Pt. 2
Foreign policy should be a mix of self-interest, national security, and moral principle. Should we have invaded South Africa to stop apartheid and racial murder--no. If we can promote the good with minimal cost--human and material--we should. It would make us a greater nation and in the end, more would see us a beacon of rights, democracy, and prosperity.

I wish the United Nations could do a better job--I would support the US taking a leadership role in an international criminal court and stopping genocide. Now that we don't torture in secret detention facilities around the world we will have more moral authority.

VLADIMIR PUTIN BOWING?
Can we even picture Putin bowing to anybody? What would have happened if BHO had bowed to Putin? What would have been said? Tough times require a tough guy in the WH. MCCAIN would never have bowed to any of these foreign leaders.
