Stop the War on Poor Families

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As Democratic Party delegates gather in Denver, America is repeatedly being told that we must transform our economy to “green” energy.

Our future is in wind and solar, liberal Democrats and environmental activists insist. Oil, gas, coal and nuclear must go.

American citizens vigorously disagree. They know fossil and nuclear fuels built this country and created health and living standards unprecedented in history. Over two-thirds support increased drilling.

They know world energy demand is surging, while US production continues to fall. They realize anti-drilling policies don’t just cause unemployment and cost us billions in lost lease bonus, royalty and tax revenues.

Those policies are an immoral war on poor families. They erode civil rights gains, and force minority and elderly households to choose between food, fuel and medicine.

Since 2006, the cost of driving a 25-mpg car 10,000 miles has risen $600. Heating and air-conditioning costs – and the price of everything we eat, wear and do – continue to soar. While higher income families spend a nickel of every dollar on energy, families at the bottom of our economic scale spend up to half of their incomes on gasoline, heating and cooling.

This is intolerable and unnecessary. We have centuries’ worth of oil, gas, oil shale, coal and uranium – and we can develop them without harming the environment.

But environmental radicals in and out of Congress refuse to let us do so. They want to force us to switch to renewables, even though there is a yawning chasm between 0.5% of US energy produced by wind and solar power – and 93% produced with hydrocarbon and nuclear power.

The eventual switch to alternative energy is obviously decades away. Meanwhile, we are sending nearly $700 billion a year to oil-rich oligarchs, while actions by Russia, Iran and Venezuela underscore our own and Europe’s national security vulnerability.

People are angry that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refuses to allow a debate or vote on ending congressional drilling bans. The only “energy” bills she supports would open few areas, while adding more taxes, regulations, lawsuits, delays, price hikes, and renewable-energy mandates and subsidies.

They will produce little or no new energy. Wind farms with hundreds of gargantuan, unreliable turbines have to be located where the wind actually blows, usually hundreds of miles from cities.

That means long transmission lines, often through forests and scenic areas. And that means opposition, delays and lawsuits from the same environmentalists who “support” wind and oppose power plants that actually produce abundant, reliable, affordable energy. As the Wall Street Journal notes, greens are already blocking transmission lines in a dozen states – even one for a wind-solar-geothermal complex.

It’s increasingly obvious that the only power environmentalist pressure groups and their congressional allies want is the power to control our lives, and curtail our energy use and economic growth.

Their latest ploy involves claims that the greatest threat facing minority families is climate change. Not drugs, teen pregnancy, deadbeat fathers, gangs, murders, frightening dropout rates, AIDS or skyrocketing energy and food prices. Climate change.

“Our very health and economic well-being are at stake,” claims the president of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. The Center has teamed up with the Natural Resource Defense Council and other extreme environmental groups to convince minorities that “costly” global warming will have “disproportionate impacts” on minorities.

Temperatures are higher in cities, they argue, due to the “urban heat island effect” – and air-conditioning use among black families is half the rate for white Americans. Therefore, global warming will cause more heat-related deaths among minority families, they claim.

This attempt to justify anti-energy policies by promoting climate change hysteria is embarrassing nonsense.

The disparity in heat-related deaths has nothing to do with climate change, and everything to do with the inability of poor families to afford air-conditioning and electricity. The disparity in cold-related deaths is even more striking, and likewise due to energy affordability.

Lock up our energy, take away fossil fuel and nuclear power, impose cap-and-trade policies – and you drive prices even higher. You make heat and electricity less affordable. You force more people to depend on unreliable, nonexistent wind power. You force more to choose between heating and eating. You cause more to die.

But radical greens want to reduce access to the fuels that produce 93% of our energy. They want to increase energy costs.

They call this “energy conservation.” I call it “economic enslavement” – and worse.

Moreover, global temperatures have barely risen for 10 years, even as global CO2 levels soared. Many experts say we are heading for a period of falling temperatures, because of declining solar intensity. Over 31,000 scientists say there is no credible evidence that carbon dioxide emissions cause climate change, much less global warming disasters. And China and India are not about to end their fossil fuel use.

Punishing poor families in the name of speculative climate chaos is insane.

We need to bring sanity and compassion back to our energy policies. Drill, mine and use American energy. And demand that Speaker Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid end their war on poor families, and have a real debate and vote on our energy and economic future.

The 'Born Alive' baby who has known the closest contact with another human any human can experience - the baby has been inside another human for months.

The baby has kicked, stretched and some even suck their thumbs. Every need has been met by its human host - shelter, nourishment and safety.

Suddenly one day the baby is attacked with chemicals and poisons.

The baby enters a world bent on death and destruction towards its life.

The baby has never seen a butterfly, puppy, pretty colors or things all babies enjoy or had any human say I love you.

The baby enters the world in excruciating pain and the best trained Medical experts in the world refuse the baby any aid - in a hospital - where all facilities are available and the Doctors have sworn to protect all human life - except his.

The baby is thrown on a cold table and left to die in some hidden place.

The baby struggles to breathe because a human is born with the human will to survive. The baby cries and sobs for help - that never comes.

The innocent baby tries to live with every breath and dies alone, abandoned like a used kleenex, never having experienced anything but pain, rejection and hatred.

When the baby finally dies a death of torture and the ultimate rejection any human can receive, it is such a worthless human it doesn't even have a 'Death Certificate' issued that it ever existed.

For a few minutes, hours or days, that baby WAS an American Citizen, that should have received all of the 'Rights and Protections' under law, that any other American Citizen should have.

Michelle and Barack Obama and most Democrats, have done everything humanly possible, to make sure this baby does NOT even receive any pain medication.

RG
Where did you get the idea O/M don't want babies to have pain medication?

McCain will, DRILL DRILL DRILL DRILL

Obama and Pelosi won't

Obama says::: RATION everything: USE less:

As free and independent states we have power to establish commerce.

The Democrats are continuing to try to close down our rights as free states, as proclaimed in the Dec. of Independance. They are using trace gases in the athmosphere to tie us with a thousand Lilipution strings, and have become enemies of freedom as enshrined in our founding documents--the freedom to establish commerce.

Thank you.

What an excellent column!

Why Not Just Tax the Rich?
If the greens are indeed making war on the poor by increasing the cost of energy why don't we just tax the evil rich and take profits from the evil corporations and give the poor free energy?

I think this is the answer BO would to any question that Mr Innis has regarding increased energy costs adversly affecting the poor.

In fact that is BO's answer to any problem. Tax the rich and solve all problems with the resulting revenue. What difference does the cost of energy make when your plan calls for making the rich pay for it?

Why would anyone not believe the messiah when he has all the answers to all our deepest questions and concerns?

Making the case that increasing energy supplies, reducing taxes and reducing the role of government will help all Americans seems to be a much easier case to make!

Mr. Innis
Hats off to you sir. Excellent article, well said.

ONLY VP HUCKABEE HELPS MCCAIN WIN in 08'

GOVERNOR MIKE HUCKABEE IS A FIGHTER AND ONE OF THE GREATEST COMMUNICATORS OF OUR TIME! ONLY HIS VOICE AS JOHN McCAIN’s VICE-PRESIDENT WILL NULLIFY OBAMA’s. I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE!

Governor Mike Huckabee is the BEST candidate among the Vice-President picks in the dangerous times that we live in. What also makes Mike Huckabee the most logical candidate is that he not only attracts Republicans but also Democrats without compromising his core principles. Both political party support is needed to win this election in 2008 and he has it. He is the Republican's secret weapon in the 2008 election. Governor Mike Huckabee's proven leadership is what can bring America together as a team. He is the perfect compliment to McCain.

The Liberal media fears him so much that they never seem to mention him as a possible vice-presidential pick. All the manufactured public peer pressure mustered overtly and covertly against Governor Mike Huckabee cannot withstand the winning strength and asset that he brings to the McCain ticket. Just allow Governor Mike Huckabee to speak and he draws both Democrats and Republican favor without a major cost to the campaign. Former Governor Mike Huckabee joins John McCain as the only candidates who ran for president that drew and connected with the younger voters of America.

Nice try
Ordinarily I wouyld have given this column high marks but the author just had to filter it through the lense of race.

Why not say that BO and McLame both have eco-idiot and energy policies that are deterimental to the economy of the nation and which will make the poor suffer worse.

Why must race be injected into every issue there is? But I guess when you are in an organization such as core every nail is a race nail.

Poor People Should Just Shut Up
They are poor because they are stupid and don't know what is good for them. Our masters in government are much smarter than all the poor people and if they think that global warming is a huge threat and responding to that threat hurts poor people disproportionately then too bad for the poor people.

Everyone knows that poor people are just marketing tools for the Dems. It's not like they are real people. If, in order to get the bus running on "green" technology, you have to throw a bunch of poor people under it then too bad for them.

The Poor Uneducated
How many years have the poor been offered free education, free breakfast because mother's were too hung over to feed their kids, free medical, free heat, free fans, free food, etc? Hey, I am not a wealthy American and am still extorted to throw more wasted money in a direction that has gone NOWHERE. If Obama is elected, I will go to work under the table,,,,no more money from me. To all of those who claim they deserve,,,,,you will get not one penny more from my earned income.

It blows
"...fossil and nuclear fuels built this country.."

Actually wind power played a major role in building the US. Columbus, John Paul Jones and Steven Decatur all depended on it. Without wind power we might still have to deal with the Barbary pirates.

Niger Innis Article- 8/28/08
Brilliant Article. Thank God for someone who is truly looking out for the "the Folks ", especially the Poor.
When Democrats talk about "Change",they are really talking about "Chains" to enslave as many people as possible. The "Elites" are the enslavers.
In addition, the so-called proposed "Cap and Trade Legislation is an attempt to capture our rights and trade them to the "Elites" who will have greater control over our lives.
Thank you!

There are only two kinds of people who still promote AGW.
Communist Scam Artists who want to create a fictitious crisis and simple minded idiots who are easy for Communists to use for dupes.

Climate Change?
sjpatejak: we are still fighting the Barbary pirates.
Tree Hugger/Greenies:Have you noticed the media are beginning to call global warming "climate change"? One reason for the alteration is the small drop in the global temperature over the past decade. Although the thickness of the Arctic ice cap has decreased, there has been a substantial increase in the thickness of the Antarctic ice cap. Unlike the media censorship of dissenting voices in the US, the Brits have been providing ample evidence of the global warming deception. Stop reading Al Gore and read the evidence gathered by real scientists. And anyone who believes the working poor and the elderly are not severely impacted by $4 a gallon gasoline and a commensurate rise in heating oil might need a refresher course on grammar school arithmetic.
Vic: Mr Innis was rebutting the use of race by the liberals and RINOs. You can't say you are the champion of minorities and then ignore the fact that many minorities, single parents of any race, the elderly, new (legal) immigrant families have to make huge finanacial adjustments to feed their families, keep warm or cool and get to work. I live in a rural area, anywhere I go is without the benefit of public transportation. If politicians claim to be on the side of the elderly and then expect me to easily pay double the amount for transportation, happily accepting that it is for my own good, they are going to have a hard job. It is getting easier to see who really cares about the elderly and other minorities every day. Did you hear me Obama, Pelosi and Harry Reid?

Good article.
The truth hurts.

gramma
The fuel crisis reaches into every facet of American life.
Higher energy costs mean higher costs in manufacture, transportation & taxes.
Taxes & profit margin are both based on percent.

Raising the cost of fuel has caused a runaway inflation.
This drastically lowers the purchase power of every dollar you have saved, your CDs, even the money in your wallet right now!

Thank the Democrats for this.
(Watermelons are Democrats too!)

It took a civil war . . .
to get the democrats to abandon slavery. What will it take for them to abandon their class envy, pseudo-science, and socialistic pandering to environmental extremists?

Steve
Democrats are a political minority.
They have MSM and many unemployed who have free time to frequently demonstrate.
Most of our working class could not get time off work to demonstrate often or afford the loss of pay if they could.

Therefore Democrats have "The Squeaky Wheel" and our Government gives them the most attention.

There is a solution.
In Europe and Japan, when Government is unresponsive to the working class, they have a General Strike and shut the entire Country down!
The loss of tax revenue gets Government's immediate attention.
General Strikes rarely last more than a day.
Our freeways & arterial traffic would be easy to blockade with pickets.
That is what I think should be done!

There is a silver lining.
With Sarah Palin as Veep we'll have a built-in force in favor of DEVELOPING our own petro chemical resources. She's also solidly conservative and with the grace of God she'll get the conservative base, which was seething over McCain, energized again.
