With unemployment at 10.2%, what will happen by the end of Obama's first term?

The US military command overseeing operations in Afghanistan on Tuesday, June 2, announced the official launch of its social networking strategy with pages on three major online sites: YouTube.com, Facebook.com and Twitter.com. The social networking pages are the first-ever effort by the military in Afghanistan to engage online audiences directly with news, videos, pictures and other information from Operation Enduring Freedom, military officials said during a teleconference with bloggers and Internet journalists.

In the two weeks since beta testing began, social networking has become a major focus of US Forces Afghanistan's communication efforts, rapidly delivering an unfiltered view of the war from troops on the ground and opening a two-way dialogue with people around the world interested in the Afghanistan mission, officials said.

Since testing began May 12, the USFOR-A Facebook page has drawn more than 4,700 fans, and more than 1,400 people and organizations have signed up to follow its "tweets" on Twitter. There was no active marketing of either site during the beta testing period.

Those who become Facebook fans or sign up to follow USFOR-A tweets will receive a firsthand look at reports, videos and images from troops on the ground, including products that are not available in the mainstream media, like exclusive video from Afghan special operations forces, officials said.

Video of a four-day operation last week to disrupt drug production and smuggling by insurgents was first featured on the command's Facebook and YouTube sites. The operation led to the deaths of 64 militants and netted more than 100 tons of narcotics – the biggest bust in more than seven years of war in Afghanistan, officials said.

Importantly for the war effort, the pages have quickened the pace at which commanders can get information to the public, allowing them to preempt extremist propaganda. The Taliban regularly make false claims of military victories to the Afghan press, which more often quotes insurgent groups than western spokespeople, officials said.

While U.S. Forces Afghanistan's social networking activities aren't focused on countering insurgent claims in the Afghan press, public affairs personnel said they hope the sites help strip militants of their attempt to influence the international press.

Thank you for that tribute. My mother's best friends brother was the first to fall from my home town and it was at Normandy. My uncle and many other neighbors fought in the Pacific as members of the 182nd, the descendant of Myles Standish's band. I didn't know my uncle was called a hero til I read some yellowed clippings my mother saved that said if you met someone from the 182nd you met a hero.
They were all heros, no matter what arena they fought in.
Now we have another generation going above and beyond the call of duty..they are constantly in our prayers.
I just finished reading "God Saw Them Through",
and what a great testimony to God's care. We who are on the homefront are as much in the battle as they, because without the prayers of the Prayer Warriors, they can't prevail against our enemies.

June 6, 1941 Normandy Beach

Maybe it was like this at Normandy.

The water was sloshing against their landing craft as it roared towards the beach.

The American Soldiers looked at each other nervously as they heard the bombs and murderous machine gun fire and the dying screams of their fellow Soldiers.

The enemies waiting for them had conquered some of the best Armies in the world.

The enemy was heavily armed and entrenched.

The American Warriors knew they would be exposed on a naked beach.

These American Warriors were determined to defeat the enemy, an enemy led by a madman who wanted to destroy the World.

Those American Warriors thought silently of their families who were depending on them that day.

Those American Warriors clenched their teeth in 'Steely Resolve' and stormed the beach with a roar.

They saw their fellow soldiers falling all around them and their resolve grew even stronger.

Those American Warriors knew that no other soldiers on the planet had as much to lose as they did.

Those American Warriors made history on that beach and left a legacy for all Americans to honor.

Those American Warriors and their fallen brothers walked the hero's path that day.

Those American Warriors walked into the heart of darkness for Duty, Honor and Country.

Those American Warriors must NEVER be forgotten.
