Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

"There is a tide in the affairs of men" -- Shakespeare

Yes, but undertows, too. As Obama, Pelosi, and Reid rush to transform America into a European-style social democratic state, they must be nervous; they must feel the sand sliding under their feet. The 2010 elections are just over the horizon and the omens are not encouraging for them. Thomas Jefferson warned that "Great innovations should not be forced on slender majorities." Maybe so. But the Democrats may be calculating that a slender majority is better than an anorexic majority, or no majority at all.

Going Rogue by Sarah Palin FREE

In 2006, it was Republicans who couldn’t catch a break. The Iraq War was going very badly. The federal response to Hurricane Katrina had, fairly or not, further tarnished the Bush administration’s reputation for competence. And Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, was caught in a sex scandal with congressional pages. Between Sept. 17 and Oct. 8, identification with the Republican Party dropped from 48 percent (even with the Democrats) to 36 percent. Scandal has always played a large role in American politics. That November, the Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives and Speaker Pelosi promised "to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C." The Democrats, she proclaimed, "intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history."

Yes, well, about that -- not going so well. Rep. Charles Rangel, a familiar face of the Democratic Party after 40 years in the House, failed to report as much $1.3 million in income in what even the New York Times editorially described as "a lengthy docket of bizarre-to-outrageous behavior." Yet Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic caucus shielded Rangel when the Republicans voted to expel him from the chairmanship of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.

Two enterprising young people armed with little more than a zest for combat and a video camera have single-handedly discredited and disgraced ACORN, the busiest (and it need hardly be added, least punctilious) voter registration foot soldiers for the Democratic Party. Revealed as corrupt beyond the most partisan imaginings, ACORN has been swiftly defunded, thus sidelining the organization in upcoming elections and dealing a public relations blow to the Democrats.

Sen. Harry Reid himself may not be returning to the Senate in 2011. Polls in Nevada suggest that 54 percent of voters have a negative view of the senator, and match-ups with either of his two likely opponents show him losing by 7 to 10 points.

Sen. Arlen Specter, who left the Republican Party out of a principled belief in his own indispensability, is facing a tough race as a Democrat in Pennsylvania. A primary challenge, which he fled the Republicans to avoid, has surfaced in the Democratic Party as well. Meanwhile, he trails the likely Republican nominee, Pat Toomey, by 5 points whereas Joe Sestak, his primary opponent, is running even with Toomey.

In off-year races that are interpreted as harbingers, the Virginia (likely) and New Jersey (possible) governorships may be gained by Republicans.

Congress’ approval rating stands at 21 percent. Seventy-one percent of Americans are unhappy with the way things are going in the country.

Non-presidential contests often go badly for the party in power, and there are indications that 2010 may be even more painful than most. The extremely high turnout among African-Americans that marked the 2008 race is unlikely to be repeated without Obama on the ballot. Democrats in general seem less enthusiastic this time than Republicans. A Washington Post poll of Virginia voters found that only 50 percent of those who voted for Obama planned to vote in 2010 compared with 66 percent of those who voted for McCain. Further, the group with the most consistent record for turning out in off-year elections is older voters, and they are not happy with the health care overhaul making its way through Congress. Obama won 66 percent of the votes cast by those between the ages of 18 and 29. But younger voters tend not to vote as heavily in non-presidential years. Election maven Charlie Cook envisions 2010 as the year of the "angry white seniors" as older voters turn out in force to oppose health care reform.

Much can change in a year of course. But for now, the tide is running very much against the Democrats.

The irony is that Obama will be much
more likely to win a 2nd term in 2012 if the GOP retakes congress.

(see GOP landslide in 1994, Clinton win in 1996)

If the Dems retain control of congress, I predict they will screw things up badly enough to get booted out of congress and the white house in 2012.

But if the GOP takes congress and fight Obama on just about everything, it will lessen their collective ability to make things worse, which will allow a real economic recovery, which will make Obama's re-election more likely.

Having said that ... I hope the congressional Dems get whipped next year. I just hope it's by good, limited-gov't candidates. Not holding my breath.

Off Year Elections
The Republicans will gain some seats in 2010. There is no doubt about that. I think it will be a very good test of how far back the Republicans have come.

Will they pick up a handfull of seats indicating they are not much stronger than in 2008? Still the minority party without making much progress in overcoming the Democrats.

Or will they get 30+ seats showing that they are a force again and could vie for control of the house or senate and setting themselves up to challenge Obama in 2012 (if the world doesn't end)

Also, A Media Sea-Change Rightward
No, the MSM won’t have suddenly become logical, honest and intelligent – that would be a miracle equal to the resurrection.

But conservatives ARE finding their media voice, embowered by the sheer numbers of first-time protesters at their side by the millions.

What is happening in the media is that conservatives are getting less timid, and with that the power and force and strength of creativity that only comes to the emboldened.

THE FOLLOWING YOUTUBE LINK TO A HALLOWEEN-THEMED ANTI-OBAMACARE AD IN 3-D(!) IS PROOF POSITIVE THAT THE CHANGE OBAMA PROMISED IS IN THE OFFING, THOUGH NOT AS HE ENVISIONED IT.

IMO this is a terribly important ad for all those reasons, and it’s both funny and very true at the same time. In short, it’s a new form of video template in contrast to the usual buttoned-up, overtly patriotic media we always see coming from our side, these days. Doubtless there will be others. But this is an important first step. PLEASE SPREAD IT AROUND.

In Full Brutal Context
". . . Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures."

If the flood is the 2010 election, don't count the chicks before the eggs are hatched, or even laid. The Clintons also promised the most ethical administration in history. We got, among others, DNA on a blue dress and it was not even deemed an impeachable behavior, just rascally banal and worthy of late night comedy fare.

We need viable alternatives, comparable to the "Contract on America." Also, we need bone murrow transplants on the Republicans so that they can exhibit some poliitcal spine. Short of that, we get on the "Omitted" side of the Brutal quote.

Temporarily Defunded
ACORN was only temporarily defunded. On Oct. 31st at midnight (how appropriate) congress will restore ACORN's public funds. Not only will the funding be restored but BARNIE FRANK has seen to it that the funding be increased through his housing shenanigans.

This is a no brainer
Do not support any incumbent politician.
A wholesale change in congress would be the best thing for America.

And how is it that nost congressmen and all senators get richer and richer AFTER they get into office? Corruption and cronyism, rampant on both sides of the aisle.
No more career politicians!!

Dems always overplay their hand
For the past 40 years when the Dems gain control of both houses and the White House they always overplay their hand. They truly believe they have received a mandate to convert the United States to a socialist nation as a result of any election the gives them even the slimmest majority. As a result they set about attempting to pass legislation that undermines the Constitutional Rights of the people and "Transform America" into something other than what they promise during the campaign.

Consequently their reign is short lived and the people always say, "Thanks but no thanks" to these radical unAmerican Ideals. This time around is the most overt attempt I've seen in my 61 years and it has the greatest potential to do long term damage to the economy and the American way of life. Rather than fixing the primary problems in the country which are, the overall economy, energy dependence and unemployment the Dems are trying to convert us to socialistic medicine, destroy our current energy sources and doing nothing about jobs.

They rely on people not paying much attention to what they're up to but this time everyone is noticing. As a result don't be surprised to see a big turnover in the 2010 election. Even long time stalwarts of the Democratic Party like Pelosi, Reid and Nelson are in danger of losing their seats as well as several recently elected representatives from traditionally conservative districts.

While most Americans are not familiar with the teachings of Karl Marx they know a skunk when they smell one.

Ray:
I second your observation. I think the backlash of this coming election will shock Obama and awe the Democrat party. I doubt that even the shenanigans of the MSM, ACORN, Apollo, SEIU, big labor and teacher's unions to "fix" elections will be of much help this time.

I can hardly wait to vote against them
I am more angry (disgusted, furious, sickened, appalled) with our government leaders than I have ever been in my 52 years. I am absolutely salivating at the chance to vote against these dangerous fools. the day can't arrive too soon for me.

Ripe for the picking
I totally agree there are several Democrate seats that are ripe for the picking, some that people don't even know about. But I am afraid the Republicans will only pickup a handful do to intangibles. If the Repbulicans do not unify the party's position by providing viable conservative alternatives to the Democratic candidates a third party will arise from this division, and we will all be analyzing what went wrong come next November.

MI-Midwesterner
Let me know if you need a ride to the polling booth. I'll drive out and take you there.

Mark & third parties.
The third parties are guaranteed by the rampantly idiotic actions of the two main parties.
The level of disgust with the RNC has peaked, they haven't fielded a real Conservative candidate for the last 6 presidential elections. They are blatantly in bed with the Dem's in gerrymandering the primaries in order to get their pet open borders/amnesty scoundrel on the ticket instead of a real Conservative with a real chance of winning.

The RNC will make the same bad calls it did last election, put the same kind of tired partisan hack in play as McCain was. The question is, "how is the Conservative electorate going to handle them?"

The intelligent asnwer would be "with a third party used as a battering ram, willing to swing their votes on command".
The use of a third party should be as a threat, an arm twister to force the main parties back into sane range.
After several elections where a third party is used as more then just a spoiler, one may actualy stand a chance of pushing one of the old parties off the cliff.

Frankly the technique the RNC used to get McCain on the ticket (dems voting in new hampshires republican primary) plays directly into a third party ploy, the third party can be the group that chooses who wins in new hampshire primaries since they can vote in any other party's primary, then go on to vote for whoever they are pointed at in the main election. It gives a small third party almost parlimentary power if used correctly.

maybe
There is a lot of wishful thinking here. Not much else in evidence. That Pennsylvania might replace Spector with Sestak is hardly a great lose for the democrats. The President remains popular. And the economy is likely to improve before the next election.

Maybe the next year will be a disaster for the democrats. But I don't remember Charen foreseeing either of the recent disasters for the Republicans, so she may not be the best prognosticator on these things.

THE PROMISE OF THE 9/12 REBELLION
HERE IS THE PROMISE THE THE 9/12 REBELLION:

IF YOU VOTE FOR THE GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE, WE WILL VOTE YOU OUT OF OFFICE.

WE PROMISE.

She has a Point
Mona has a point. The political stars are aligned in a way that seems bad for Democrats. But it won't be really bad. No matter how dissatisfied with teh Democrats people are, they are even more dissatisfied with Republicans.

If the economy improves and or there is any progress internationally, then it will be a wash. Look for a some seats to change hands, but not many

She left off alot
There are plenty more blemishes on the dems than just the ones she names. There is and was Blago (Chicago), Jefferson, Dodd, Murtha and Conrad. You can even see Pelosi get into the list if it is proven, that she used her influence to continue the water flow on her vineyards while shutting off the water to growers in N. Cali. Lon, there is plenty of eveidence, read and research, ostriches just do not see the danger but it is still there.

The Democrats Coming Defeat -- ?
It's quite true that the Dems are running against the wind right now, and Charen is right in her conclusions as far as conventional wisdom goes. But -- a lifetime of covering local, state, and occasionally national races has taught me that a few days can be a lifetime in politics, and conventional wisdom, right today, may be dashed on the rocks of reality tomorrow. By those lights, 2010 is a loong way off. Nearly thirteen months away. Much as I'd like to see the Democrats swept out en masse next November, I'll believe it when it happens...not before

BEWARE OF THE PHONY JOBS CREATION
Obama is trying to offer $3,000 tax credit for every new employee hired. This is only for TWO years. Now let's be serious, if you're an employer just barely making payroll and keeping the employees you have just to stay afloat, why would you hire another employee at, (say $30,000 a year) just so you can get a $3,000 tax credit?? This is a ploy by Obama so he can say in 2012 that employment is rising. The only ones taking advantage of this are the companies who were really going to hire another employee anyway, which at this time is the Federal Goverment. Obama must think that people that run companies(small and and large) are just as stupid as the White House and Congress.

Voting is not enough
It is the nature of the left to lie, distort, prevaricate, deceive, rationalize, dissemble, delude, conceal, obfuscate, swindle, seduce, and cheat. That is exactly what we have seen from this administration and Congress on healthcare, cap & tax, etc., etc. It can no longer be construed as the behavior of a well-meaning opponent, nor is it simply some infrequent excess of politics.

Progressives have waged an unacknowledged culture war ever since the '60's. They have slowly but surely taken over every aspect of American life, from education and the courts to the media, all levels of bureaucracy, and everything in-between. No longer can Conservatives assume that spending all their time and energy on work and family, with occasional trips to the voting booth will preserve their way of life. Tea parties, town halls, and voting for the next crop of Republicans in 2010 will do almost nothing to roll back these incursions.

If there is one thing that can be said for the left, they have successfully engaged in civil disobedience for decades. My only suggestion at this point is that Conservatives start to do the same, targeted at specific laws, regulations, agencies, and taxes that will provide pivot points for changing back the culture and taking back the country. There must be a massive, concerted right-wing effort of strategy and tactics against the left. Otherwise, we can simply meekly acquiesce as the final pieces of a progressive soft tyranny are hammered permanently into place.

Wildcards
There are 4 wildcards not in this appraisal.
1.The Dems OWN the media.
2.The Dems OWN the census and redistricting. Watch for another "emergency" to push this through.
3.Regardless of Federal funds ACORN will not lack money to effect the election.
4.By Nov 2010 the Dems will OWN the lower courts and SCOTUS and will tie up election results al a Minnesota.
Can you say, "comrade"?

Mr Smith Goes to Washington.
In the movie, it was portrayed that corrupt businessmen were pulling the strings of bribed politicians and newspapers. Whatever. It doesn't matter whether media is being bribed or simply whether they overwhelmingly favor one side (80-90% of journalists self-identify as liberals today). The outcome is the same. When the 4th estate overwhelmingly favors one side a democratic republic cannot function.

However, as long as it's only ideological support on the part of journalists, there is hope. Should something open their eyes they could on any day come to work and begin reporting both sides of issues.

But I ain't gon'na hold my breath!

I see
a lot of negativity here in the posts. We can turn the tide. We need to participate in the caucuses, or primaries. Go out and support the most conservative candidates. Vote and volunteer at the polling place. There can be no complaining if you don’t work for it. Remember Ronald Reagan was bashed by the MSM, and found away to talk directly to the American people. He just stepped around the MSM. I am not cheer leading for the republicans, but for the most conservative candidates.

And lest we forget, we have a powerful weapon,
One that never sleeps..Almighty God and we need need to be prayer warriors. This is a spiritual war that's being fought within our country.
Don't forget, July 12, 2007 Harry Reid invited a Hindu priest for the first time in our history to open the post fourth of July Senate session. Christians know this opened the door to something dark, and if you think about it
wasn't it AFTER that prayer that Obama started to make headway in the campaign. He is a disciple of Saul Alinsky whose book was dedicated to Lucifer/satan and the tactics Alinsky espoused are satanic and evil, there's no denying it. There's a blindness amongst the
congress..the evil of the Nazi Pillousey gang is evident but the pacifism of the Right in the GOP is very noticeable. We have bemoaned the fact that the GOP hasn't stood against the
evil left..could it be they too have been blinded by the evil one, the ENEMY?
Some of you may think I am off the wall with all this about spiritual warfare..but think about it especially if you are Christians.
It's like that old movie with Jason Robards,
"Something Wicked This Way Cometh" and it was portrayed by a roiling black fog that invaded the little town..We have the same black fog roiling around our country.
Yes we must act and be good citizens and do everything in our power to stop these criminals however our BEST WEAPON begins on our knees.

Don't presume negativity of comments means a lack of action. But did you notice the largest march in history on washington going largely ignored in the press? The action necessary goes beyond mere campaigning ... we practically need a revolution to change the direction of this nation. I count myself as enlisted. But my negativity reflects my perspective that it'll be an entirely uphill struggle. The active partisanship of the media makes America NOT a level playing field anymore, by a long-shot!

Piece Needs Some Correcting
"As Obama, Pelosi, and Reid rush to transform America into a European-style social democratic state..."

No, their outright obvious intentions are far closer to the former Soviet Communist State. Damn I wish Conservative columnists had the guts to call this what it is!

"The federal response to Hurricane Katrina had, fairly or not, further tarnished the Bush administration’s reputation for competence."

Simply needed to have said "unfairly" tarnished. No need for the "fairly or not" nonsense. Please stop trying to be nice to Liberals.

"And Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, was caught in a sex scandal with congressional pages."

There was no "sex" scandal as there was no "sex" involved in any of Foley's weirdness.

A plea to Conservative columnists: Please stop trying to be nice to Liberals! We've been doing this for decades and it's getting us killed!

Im with you Kirk

RE: Please Hear Mona
From Mona Charen's type writer to God's ears!" Many of us hope you are right.

Let Me Say Something Else
Back on this again:

"As Obama, Pelosi, and Reid rush to transform America into a European-style social democratic state..."

That statement by Conservatives aggravates the stew out of me!

Where are "European-style social democractic states" trying to drive religion from the public square? Driving religion from the public square is what Communist states do. And the same thing Liberals with their allies in academia, media and the ACLU are trying to do in the United States.

There are certainly Leftists in the European media. But where in "European-style social democratic states" does the media march entirely in sync with the government? The media being nothing but a propaganda outlet for the government is what happens in "Communist states" and is what is happening here in the United States.

Where in "European-style social democratic states" are the school systems indoctrinating the children in a political agenda and ideology? The Europeans actually teach academics for the most part, believe or not. As opposed to the Leftist political ideology that is being taught in our schools -- just like the former Soviet "Communist" state.

If anyone cared to pull-up a copy of the Communist Manifesto, they would see that the current Democratic Party mirrors it damn near item for item!

But most Conservative columnists, as usual, don't want to be harsh and ruffle any feathers and accuse the Communists of actually being: Communists. So they dance around with this "European-style social democratic state" nonsense. And does anyone really know what that means and how to define it?

A sad commentary
"Between Sept. 17 and Oct. 8, identification with the Republican Party dropped from 48 percent (even with the Democrats) to 36 percent."

The fact that people would jump ship and change parties over things like bad PR just goes to show that most Americans don't have a clue when it comes to politics.

Should someone really let something like the unpredictable revision of war or the philandering of one politician make them change parties? Not when you realize the difference between the Republican’s platform and the Democrat’s platform. But most people, sad to say, can’t even recite the basic tenant’s of their party’s platform, if they even know what a platform is.

Getting the wrong party in power can literally change your rights as Americans and the kind of safety and security your children and grandchildren live under.

It makes me sick to think that people would make such decisions based on the superficial changes of day to day politics. They might as well throw a leaf in the air and base their choices on the direction of the wind.

Ms Kelly
"Getting the wrong party in power can literally change your rights as Americans and the kind of safety and security your children and grandchildren live under. "

The problem is that I can't tell which party is "the wrong party" anymore. Did the GOP live up to its Contract with America? Are they the "right party" because they only tripled the size of government during G W Bush's tenure? It's great that now that the Republicans are in the minority again, they have suddenly found their principles again, but isn't it amazing that whenever they actually have a chance to block something, one or more of them jump sides to keep it from happening.

We don't have two parties, we have one party that stages arguments for the TV cameras. If you want proof of that, take a close look at what happens when the reins of power change hands. Did Obama get us out of Iraq? End warrantless wiretapping? Did G W Bush get the US out of "nation building" as he promised in the 2000 election? Did he reduce the size and scope of government?

Choosing between the two parties is like sitting in the interrogation room and trying to decide which is the good cop and which is the bad cop. Neither cop is really trying to help you.

Ms Kelly
Here's the problem.

I was watching Mitt romney on TV the other night. He was saying that we were going about this health care reform the wrong way. He said what we should be doing is letting the states be the laboratories and experiment with health care reforms, then the federal government should take the best ideas from all the states and make that the federal program.

See? The "leaders" of the GOP don't even understand that we don't want more federal government. It's not within the Constitutional scope of authority for the federal government to be providing health care. Period.

How can the GOP provide the answers? They don't even understand the questions.

piling on Ms Kelly
Here's what drove me away from the GOP:

Can we all agree that McCain-Feingold grossly violates the spirit and letter of the 1st Amendment?

Can we all agree that Republicans should not be creating new, unconstitutional entitlement programs such as Medicare part D?

Can we all agree that government ownership of banks (Both W's TARP and O's stimulus do this) is unonstitutional, socialist, and a really bad idea?

27 of the 40 current GOP senators voted FOR W's TARP! This is unacceptable.

Eliminate those who voted for M-F, and you're down to 12 possibly trustworthy GOP senators. Eliminate those who voted for Medicare part D, and you're down to 4.

We are not talking about a few bad apples here. We are talking about 10% of GOP senators who were right on just these three issues. And I'm not even getting into the unconstitutionality of half our cabinet-level departments, farm bills, pork, etc, which would probably eliminate the last 4.

As kbTexan, Allen & others have pointed out,the GOP has not even begun to correct the problems that drive away conservatives.

VOICES = VOTES
My Opinion: Rasmussan poll, May 2009 shows
Conservatives 40%, Moderates 35%, Liberals 21%.
This Administration has succeeded in unifying the 40% & 35%, and we are growing at warp speed.
This Administration has awakened a complacent
America, and we don't intend on easing up!
WE ARE THE DECIDING GENERATION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND WE TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY! We don't want them to
inherit multi-TRILLIONS of debt! We want them
to inherit what we, our parents/grandparents
inherited: A Republic. A Democracy that was the
'gold standard' of freedom, rights, and justice.
You can't tell the difference between a Dem. or a Rep. anymore (with a few exceptions.) As a
result of seeing how this Administration has
so arrogantly tromped upon the Constitution and
Bill of Rights, WE ARE DETERMINED TO VOTE FOR
THE PERSON, NOT FOR THE PARTY! And if enough
genuine Constitutional-respecting/obeying candidates come forth for a 3rd Party...they will be the ones coming to DC, bringing a broom
to sweep it clean!
Every member of Congress, the President, and
every troop fighting, injured, dying or dead ALL
TOOK THE SAME OATH: "to protect and defend the
Constitution of the United States." Who has,
who IS honoring that sacred oath today? Yeah!
We are too numerous: 3 million pink slips to DC? Numerous petitions for specific rights; the
townhall meetings, Tea Party, "Can you hear us
now," "MOMS" in nearly every state, FRC, AFA,
ACLJ, ADF,etc, etc. WE ARE AMERICA: UNITED!
We have found our voice and VOICE = VOTES!
Snake-oil salesmanship..meeting behind closed
doors, meeting at night with only YOUR party,
not allowing 'FULL AND FAIR DEBATES' (BIG LIE!)
Making up 1000+ page bills without the public
havig a chance to see it or peers time to read and grasp it? TAXATION WITHOUT
REPRESENTATION! (sound familiar?)

Wake Up ! Conservatives have Lost !!!
The left is evil.
The left has won.

Seriously, what do you think you are going to do?

The left has infiltrated and taken control of every facet of society,
and you have just now noticed it?

Do you think voting will cure the leftist cancer?
Has it proven effective up to now?

WAKE UP!

Civil disobedience is your only recourse now!

Dear conservatives
Dream on, repiglicans. Dream on.

Wake up, yourself, Charles
The left is NOT evil. They just believe a lot of things that aren't so.

The left has ONLY won for the moment. Obama won 53% of the vote. You make it sound like he won 80%. It will only take a small shift in the vote to bring Republicans back into the majority.

Knock it off with your, "run for your lives" rhetoric. The situation is far from desparate, but we need people like you to STOP WAILING and GET TO WORK. This means TALKING to people, explaining conservative principles and convincing people of their rightness.

You can do this, just get your head in the game.

Oh come awwwwwn....

However, there are reasons people speak plainly and in clear print for all the world to see. What Patriots are plainly saying is that our elected public servants are failing to represent us! "The irony is that Obama will be much
more likely to win a 2nd term in 2012 if the GOP retakes congress."

I think by 2012 enough voters will be so frightened by the prospect of a second term for a Marxist, that he will not be able to win.
I doubt that even the power of incumbency will beget enough dead people voting to offset the losses he will incur because of no longer be viewed as the Messiah. And people who voted solely for a black man will not be so disposed next time.

Obama is a one termer---and that is four years too many!

rmt5, believe me, I pray you're right...
And like I said, we need to work hard to defeat congressional Dems (well all congressional liberal, but especially the Dems) regardless

Thank you for the statistics. They confirm what my belief already was: Throw the rascals out. GOP or Dem, they are all complicit. The ONLY thing the rat basterds pay attention to is the re-election rate. The only way the voters have of getting decent representation is punish the pols getting rich at America's expense. So long as voters vote for the crumbs, the remains of their own money sent back from DC, they will just as much to blame as the scalawags in office. At least the pols are stealing other people's money. The voters are trying to get rich stealing their own.

Can you tell me who were the 4 who voted right?

Lets Not Get Overconfident
While I would like nothing more than to see a
resounding Democrat defeat in 2010...according
to the latest Gallup Poll the "Great One" has
an approval rating of 52 percent. Thinking that we're going to retake the House or the Senate is probably optimistic to say the least. Even after the 787 billion dollar government spending bill and now their fixing to ram "Medicare-for-everybody" down our throats using (or misusing) the reconciliation trick. Some people are so blinded by their hatred of GWB that they will tolerate this nonsense.

BLUE DOGS
Is the BLUE DOG web site still down until after the Health care final vote?? The Blue dogs want the support of their voters But will lose Funding and Party support if they do not "TOE THE LINE" I believe that the only way that they can get re-elected is if they all at once join the INDEPENDANT party...They could vote left center or right on all issues and in their Districts would be people who appaud them..They could change ALL house CHAIRS or have rules that prevent Chairs from a liftime appointment from their friends Think of WAXMAN..out..BARNEY (MEAT OR BEEF) Frank(s)..out..RANGEL..I forgot things I have..and MAXIE ( the PAD ) waters would be in a Minority..SORRY about that..What a goverment Bills could even be Read or At explained to the PUBLIC oh! what a country it could be

you state: "Choosing between the two parties is like sitting in the interrogation room and trying to decide which is the good cop and which is the bad cop. Neither cop is really trying to help you."

I happen to agree with you. In addition, it seems many people are always wanting those in office to be thrown out (doesn't matter which side), EXCEPT for their OWN Rep or Sen. (which unless they are for the opposing team, are doing 'a fine job')
So, what is the solution?

"A Note from the VETS area"
For the second time in my Lifetime I will be voting a *Straight Ticket*..And it will not be Democratic!!

There is absolutely NO WAY I will vote otherwise--It doesn't matter WHO/What is on the Ballot.. NOW, Ain't that a B!!tech?? It's a sorry state of affairs that brings me to this decision; AND let me say this: After spending a large part of two separate days in one of the largest VA Facilities on the East Coast, I found the overall feeling of most people MATCHED mine.. WE ARE NOT HAPPY with "Universal Health Care"..to the LC--No need to respond..Ur not even in the equation anymore.. CHEERS

MITT ROMMEY
MR.ROMMEY..was not saying more goverment..It may have been in two parts he was thinking..FIRST) the voters are there so that being the case...USE a states model first..BUT SECOND)...his approach would buy time for the House to go REPUBLICAN and KILL the thing..The words are not always as they appear...That why we elected the person who had the most LEFT voting record in the SENATE..When he was aganist Hillary he was so far LEFT...When he ran against Mc CAIN...Obama ran so Quickly to the CENTER that people thought that they were electing HONEST ABE...!!!

Pistol asks which Republican senators
voted correctly on McCain-Feingold, Medicare part-D, and W's TARP (correct = NO, NO, NO!)

They are Barrasso (WY), DeMint (SC), Vitter (LA), Wicker (MS)

And they all took office in 2005 or 2007, so did not have the opportunity to vote wrong on Med-D or M-F.

If you remove voting for Medicare part D as a requirement, you can add: Brownback (KS), Bunning (KY), Crapo (ID), Enzi (WY), Inhofe (OK), Roberts (KS), Sessions (AL), Shelby (AL)

Dems will lose
For those who insist on saying yes, polls don't really matter cuz people still prefer Dems over Repubs. Well, if true, then you may as well kiss our nation goodbye. Hell will freeze over before many of us vote again for the kind of "change" we ended up with. We were sold a bill of good. This skinny no-clue president of ours only has approval ratings as high as he does because the media covers his ineptitude. The only thing he can get DONE is give a good speech.

THE HUMPTY DUMPTY DEMOCRATS WILL FALL..!
Excellent commentary Ms Charen....Yes...The country is tired of this force feeding frenzy of the Far left Socialist-communist, cowards and copitulators...with their tsunami wave of taxes to pay for their Utopian scheme..Cap and trade, Public "no option" medical, value added tax, recending the Bush tax cut, not ending the death tax....and mandates up the wazoo will turn all but the Che boys and girls off...BIG TIME...The Democraps are overplaying their hand..in poker parlence..they are ignorant on what makes the economy work..they are ignorant on our security...Acorn can't find enough mickey mouses to scame the vote....conservatives will get the power back in 2010...thank GOD...! Modified answer to Pistol's question
Pistol asked which Republican senators
voted correctly on McCain-Feingold, Medicare part-D, and W's TARP (correct = NO, NO, NO!)

Earlier today I had listed the four who passed my test, and noted that none were in the senate for 2/3 of the votes. I did some more research and found that Senators DeMint, Vitter and Wicker were in the House of Representatives in 2003. Only DeMint voted against Medicare Part D.

So, that leaves only DeMint and Barrasso as possibly reliable limited government senators. 5% of the GOP caucus.

THIS is why I'm into 3rd parties lately.

Chris
Thank you. DeMint looks like a bona fide conservative. Never heard of Barrasso, but i'll keep my ears open.

Ironic, isn't it, that the same state
that sent us the most reliable fed gov't limiter in the senate (Jim DeMint)...
also sent us Lindsey Graham?

Mari
you state: "Hell will freeze over before many of us vote again for the kind of "change" we ended up with."

Vote again? Are you saying you voted FOR Obama?

Barrasso
Barasso is from Wyoming so is likely to return in his next election. He's the only thing we can hold to in the Senate. It's frustrating to be from the Mountain West in this political climate. So conservative with such a small voice.
