Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Vice President Joseph Biden delivered the Obama administration's first major foreign policy address last week at the Munich Security Conference. It was just the sort of thing Europeans tend to like. Biden offered bouquets to diplomacy, to multinational institutions, and to respecting other cultures. "It was not an accident," he told his continental audience, "that (Obama) gave his very first interview as president to Al-Arabiya."

The new administration is entitled to pursue whatever foreign policy they think best in the next four years (God help us). But attempting to falsify the history of the Bush years should not go unremarked.

Just as he did during the campaign, when then-candidate Biden declared that we had "kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon," among other whoppers, Biden is again (presumably with the full support and encouragement of President Obama) inventing his own history to suit his political purposes.

"Our administration is reviewing policy toward Iran," Biden declared, "but this much I can say: We are willing to talk."

Unlike whom? Obama's predecessor? The Bush administration held at least 28 separate meetings between Americans of ambassadorial rank and Iranian officials during the eight years of the Bush presidency. According to the Middle East Forum, more than 16 meetings were held in Geneva and Paris from November 2001 through December 2002 between Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Ryan Crocker and senior Iranian Foreign Ministry officials. A number of high-level direct negotiations were conducted in 2003, and a number of indirect contacts were maintained through the Europeans between 2003 and 2007. In March 2007, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad held a meeting with an Iranian team at a conference of Iraq's neighbors in Baghdad. Khalilzad's successor, Crocker, also met with the Iranian ambassador. Thus the U.S. gave full backing to a (fruitless) European Union initiative to negotiate with Iran about its nuclear program.

Biden announced last week, as if there were something new under the sun, "We are willing to talk to Iran, and to offer a very clear choice: continue down your current course and there will be pressure and isolation; abandon your illicit nuclear program and support for terrorism and there will be meaningful incentives."

Ah, "meaningful incentives." Why didn't someone think of that before? Let's see, here's a CNN clip from May 8, 2008: "The United States has signed off on a European plan that would offer increased incentives for Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program, senior State Department officials said Thursday. ... The United States, along with the other nations, has been following a 'dual track strategy' with Iran, which includes tightening sanctions on the regime while offering incentives if Iran suspends its enrichment activities." Page back through the past eight years and you can find the identical story over and over again. The U.S. and the Europeans have been perpetual Charlie Browns running to kick the football to the Iranian Lucy.

So now the Obama Administration proposes to do exactly, exactly the same thing. But they do so loudly proclaiming how different they are. And the clock ticks, and Ahmadinejad -- who affirmatively desires global chaos because he believes it portends the arrival of the 12th imam -- gets ever closer to a nuclear weapon.

"We do not believe in a clash of civilizations," said Biden. Another straw man. The Bush administration never framed the war on terror as a clash of civilizations and in fact made every effort to remind the world that we respected Islam. We heard that Islam was a "religion of peace" more from Bush and Co. than we ever heard it from leading Muslims. One of President Bush's first stops in the days after 9/11 was the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C. And it was Bush who began to observe Ramadan at the White House.

The new administration betrays a touching faith in diplomacy. Democrats always do. What they have never seemed to appreciate is that diplomacy without the threat of force is as effective as a watchdog with a muzzle. Perhaps Obama might consider a muzzle the next time Biden goes for an outing.

Muzzle Biden
The only thing that I would add to having Biden muzzled is that he should be kept under the dark stairs; trust me, he would not know the difference, since he has trouble focusing on even the camara, indicating that he is not used to the light.

Does Anyone See The Awful Irony
Does anyone see in Joe Biden going to Munich of all places to tell Angela Merkel that the U.S. is willing to "talk" to Germany's anti-semitic, genocidal trade partner Iran a painfully pathetic repetition of history?

Munich "Security" Conference provides as much security as did the Munich "Peace" Conference.

There's No Reason
to think that the current administration would display any more respect for Mr. Bush and any of his policies - they acted no differently for the entire 2 terms that GWB earned. They are showing their true colors and unfortunately, they don't appear to be red, white and blue. It's going to be very very interesting over the next 4 years - unless some unforeseen happening brings about an interruption of some sort. Will Joe let us know when to be very scared?

I would add to keep several assistants handy with pooper scoopers.

Pancho:
From its beginning the Islamic revolution in Iran has been seen as a model to emulate by Sunni radicals. Going nuclear will give the mullahs enormous prestige among radicals of all stripes who, like Hamas, will turn to them for funding and training to achieve their local ends. Mubarak's fear of Iranian intentions and influence "They want to devour the region," he says, is shared by Jordan, the Saudis, Kuwait and Bihrain. As for recent elections in Iraq that country is practically an economic client state of Iran. The last men on earth that Maliki would cross are the mullahs. The mullahs have a gun to Maliki's head and when they tell him to jump he asks how high.

By the way, when Maliki sent security forces into Basra last year al Sadr was under house arrest in Qom as the mullahs favored the operation as they do Maliki's friendly government. Maliki heads the Dawa Party which is fundamentalist, deeply Shia, an ardent supporter of Hezbollah and beholden to Iran.

Pancho
“Please explain how a Shiite revolution throughout the Middle East will work, since Arab Sunnis dominate almost every nation?”

Please explain how a radical minority in Iran revolted and is still control?

A relevant quote...

"Diplomacy without force is like music without instruments." ~ Frederick the Great

BIDEN LIKE THE DIXIE CHICKS !
GOES TO EUROPE AND BAD MOUTHS THE BUSH YEARS!

Correction LouLouise
Afraid Bumble, er Biden was third from the bottom of his law class. Still, he claims to have gotten a full free-ride on his intellectual capacities. And most think higher education is being dumbed-down??!! PAH!!

Voice of the Administration
Why would one chose the man who wasn't even his own party's third choice for leadership deliver important foreign policy statements? The administration must understand that having it's first foreign policy concepts presented by a recognized buffoon will send a powerful message of weakness and incompetence to the world.

Strangely Enough
Yeah, the wife is decent looking. I guess power trumps hair plugs, botched facelift, tanning bed and chiclet teeth. To say nothing of less than average intelligence. Bottom of his class at Syracus Law School.

Troll
I would ignore Sancho Panza. He has no value.

Phil
I don't know why you responded either, since you just put words in my mouth that I didn't say.

It's an incredibly stupid way to discuss issues.

It's Only a Small Matter
of time until Iran launches a nuclear warhead tipped missle from a satellite. Rudamentary electronics and America's GPS system will ensure a hit. Guess who would be the 1st and 2nd targets? Yeah let's talk our heads off and give Iran all the time needed to get this first strike capability in space over all of our collective heads. The policy expressed by this administration is nothing short of suicide for America. This is truly an abortion and abomination to let Biden to even open his mouth.

reply #9 et al:

Thank God you are here to reassure us that Iran is not a threat.
Here I spent all this time missunderstanding their invasion of our embassy and hostage taking.
All along they were just good folks whose rants about anihilating Israel and the U.S. were just talk.
I feel so much safer now that you have explained it all. I'm sure your vast knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs has allowed you to be assertive in declaring Iran to be a toothless tiger.
I rest easier now.
Oh--I'm sorry I didnt bother to refute your posits point by point.
Hell-I dont even know why I'm bothering to address you at all--just a bad morning I guess.

the REAL question is..
why is Uncle Joe giving the first major foreign policy address for the obama administration and not the secretary of state?

eltoro
FINALLY a sensible voice!!!

Let's talk about Biden's wife
She's hot!!

Don't need to read it
>Russia and China be damned! It is likely that the Mullahs will hold the region and the world economy hostage to nuclear blackmail once they get the bomb as well as formenting radical revolutions throughout the Middle East.<

Why would I read something by someone who is obviously so biased and uninformed?

Please explain how a Shiite revolution throughout the Middle East will work, since Arab Sunnis dominate almost every nation? Even in Lebanon, where Hezbollah has established a legitimate presence within the fragile structure of that government, they are a minority presence with limited national influence.
The Iraqi elections just served a severe blow to the Shia religious parties with close ties to Iran.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE and even Syria oppose Iranian agression.

On the other side of Iran, Pakistan's radical Islamic base is Sunni-dominated, and even Shiite majority Azerbaijan is too busy enjoying the windfalls of oil prosperity to have any significant radical Islamic movement.

If you think Iran can "hold the region and the world economy hostage to nuclear blackmail" without powerful allies, then your analysis of the region is so flawed as to be easily dismissed.

Typical Chicago

Remember what brought down Al Capone?

What other secrets are there?

Jim's right
This guy is an embarrassing dolt with the integrity of Blogoavich.
We will all be paying for their naivety. They are proving incapable of learning from past mistakes and past successes.

We Love to Talk
Sometimes we tend to talk too much and I think a guy like Joe Biden, unchecked, will try to spin some real tall tails. If this wasn't so serious it would be funny, but, I think as time goes on we're not going to be laughing.

PANCHO: THREAT OF NUCLEAR IRAN
Pancho writes:

The only way Iran is a threat on the international stage is if they have the support of either Russia or China or both.

ApolloSpeaks:

A nuclear armed Iran in the strategically vital oil rich Persian Gulf is an immense threat in and by itself to the peace and stability of the Middle East. Russia and China be damned! It is likely that the Mullahs will hold the region and the world economy hostage to nuclear blackmail once they get the bomb as well as formenting radical revolutions throughout the Middle East. Read my Perils of a War Weary Nation in the Age of Barack Obama and The Rise of Nuclear Iran (page 2 on my blog).

Soon to realize

Obama will soon realize that riding the tiger in the cage is far different from sitting out side the cage kibitzing.

Biden
Is a supreme idiot! He is that crazy uncle we talk about at thanksgiving dinner who collects newspapers and was admiral of the royal navy. Uncle joe here should be medicated and locked in the basement. They thoughht Sarah was unprepared to be president? This guy is unprepared to be functioning in society.

Biden
The best thing is to muzzle Biden. He suffers from a foot-in-mouth disease. He is the undisputed king of gaffe. One has only to look at the expression on Obama's face when Biden said that he did not have as good a memory of our Chief Justice -- referring to the slip of the oath at the inauguration. This guy is guaranteeing that the administration will be wrong 30% of the time -- not very reassuring.

The Iranian Juggernaut
The only way Iran is a threat on the international stage is if they have the support of either Russia or China or both.

Charen fails to mention the conciliatory tone of Moscow and Washington at the Munich meetings, which is at the very heart of the Iranian situation.

Without military support from either Russia or China, Iran is isolated from expanding any type of aggression outside its borders.

Even in the complex world of geo-energy politics, Iran has no real trump card. Russia and Iran are actually competitors in the energy world, and China has expanded its network of suppliers in the past decade, making any defense of Iran a losing proposition.

Former Iranian President Khatami, who supported detente with the West, will challenge Ahmadinejad for the presidency in June. A Khatami win will go a long way toward diffusing tensions, especially if coupled with closer ties between Russia and Washington.

"We Love to Talk"
Yes indeed that has become very evident. The love to talk is on display for all to see. As true as it is that swami obami and osama bin biden love to talk, it is all to be Stored High In Transit. The last four words are an acronym. S-H-I-T.

Biden in europe

IF it is true that European countries disliked us while bush was President these same countries must see us as a circus after that clown biden gave his talk.
The man is a fool.

Talk negotiations
If Obama can't "talk-negotiate," get bi-partisan agreements with our own politicians, I wonder just how he thinks it's going to work with countries like Iran. Talk about extremism ideology partisanship! They have a mandate from Allah to wipe out "little Satan - Israel" and "big Satan - US."

He's up against a political system with a religious mandate from their "god" to take certain action. Does Obama think they are going to listen to their "god - Allah" or "Messiah Obama - god of the Big Satan!" Does Allah allow for "agreements - compromise - let's just get along so we can have peace?" To the leaders of these countries, peace is when Islam and Allah rule the world.

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
The next four years are going to be about the education of Biden and Barack. These neophytes are very quickly going to find out what the real world is about. It's definitely not like acceding to the unions for higher wages and benefits just to keep them quiet and in the ranks. There be monsters out there in China, Iran, Afghanistan and Russia and the dynamic duo in Washington, D.C., have no clue as to how to keep them from running rampant over the world.

GLOBAL WARMING & GLOBAL JIHAD
We have feckless Joe Biden, the loquacious VP of our neo-Chamberlain President, delivering one of the weakest most apologetically servile foreign policy speeches in memory from of all places Munich the birthplace of World War II where Chamberlain won Hitler's contempt by treating him as a conventional statesmen with legitimate grievances to redress. In this speech Biden listed five major challenges facing the U.S. and its European partners with "radical fundamentalism," or Islamic terrorism as it used to be called in the dark age of George Bush, being number five behind global warming in importance. That Biden should see an imaginary global warming as a greater security threat than global jihad is par for a man who would have allowed Saddam Hussein to annex Kuwait and develop an arsenal of nuclear weapons.

Click ApolloSpeaks and read my piece "Perils of a War Weary Nation in the Age of Barack Obama" for more insight into the menacing weakness of the new administration.

Big talkers get no respect
How can you listen and respect someone who steps out from behind the real force of power. Bush was that power. The world knows which party fought the war on terror and which party sat on the side lines afraid if they pick sides that they would anger the terrorist. Bush was hated, but he was respected for his strength as a leader. How can Bidden go anywhere with his chest out talking as if he has the strength of Bush. What kind of welcome does Bidden think he's going to get. It comes down to this. Bidden wants everyone he visits to know Bush is no longer the President and since Bush is gone, we can really work together. Bidden is going to get a lesson in the word hatred. If Bidden gets whatever he asks for especially from the French, then Bush was truly hated. If Bidden gets nothing, then the hatred for Bush was only a front. The real hatred was for the American people. There's only one message Bidden is trying to get across where ever he goes. Bush is gone.
