Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

On January 14, Frank Pastore wrote an open letter Mike Huckabee Titled: “Dear Huck: You’ve Won Our Hearts, Now Win Our Minds Too.” Below are Pastore’s Original Questions with the Response from the Huckabee campaign.

Frank Pastore: 1. You’re accused of advancing “liberal economic policies” because you raised taxes in Arkansas. If elected, what do you want to increase social spending on and why? Most conservatives don’t define “limited government” in terms of “no government.” We want government to help those who truly need it. We want to help the single mom down the street that’s struggling. Unlike Democrats, we don’t measure the success of social programs by how much we spend on them, but by whether the people we claim to be helping actually get helped.

We want “limited government” in opposition to “unlimited government.” We believe we’re already spending too much on too many programs, and we’d rather spend more wisely what we’re already spending than simply default to spending more. We don’t want “bigger government,” we want “smarter government.” We understand a “let’s cut spending” message can’t win a general election, but a “responsible spending” message can. How do you suggest we do this?

Governor Mike Huckabee: First, I am a fiscal conservative. I have signed Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform “no tax” pledge. When I was Governor of Arkansas, I cut taxes 94 times, including the largest broad-based tax cut in the history of my state. I doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, eliminated the marriage penalty, indexed tax brackets to prevent bracket creep, reduced the capital gains tax for both businesses and individuals, and eliminated the capital gains tax on the sale of a home. I reduced welfare rolls by almost 50 percent.

When I left office, the tax rates remained exactly the same as when I began almost 11 years earlier: the tax rate was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest. Having inherited a $200 million budget shortfall from my Democrat predecessor, I left office with an $844 million surplus, letting my successor follow my lead to get the sales tax on food eliminated.

I share your goal of wanting to help those who truly need it. I will undertake a top-to-bottom review of all programs to eliminate waste and duplication. Right now there are many different programs dealing with things like hunger and job training. I will consolidate and streamline to get the most out of every tax dollar. I will reduce the federal work force by not replacing many of the baby boomers who will be retiring.

I will fight against pork and fight for a line-item veto that passes constitutional muster. I will also look for ways to accomplish our goals through block grants to the states. Governors at the state level are the ones who know their people and their needs better than the federal government and, since they have to balance their budgets, know how to get the most out of a dollar. We also need to measure performance and demand better accountability. We have to stop throwing money at problems without following up to ensure that they are actually achieving solutions. I will insist that programs and the people running them justify their existence. I will never just assume that because a program was funded last year, it should be funded next year.

While we have great needs, the federal government also has great resources provided by the sweat of the brows of all our taxpayers. They are entitled to a solid return on their investment. I will never forget where the money comes from and will demand of Congress and all my executive departments that we be the best stewards that we can possibly be of those hard-earned funds.

Pastore: 2. Your “Fair Tax” proposal is interesting, but you must know it has zero chance of getting through Congress in the coming decade, even if you should win reelection. We appreciate you raising the issue, and we’re all frustrated with the Tax Code, and we all hate the IRS. But, Congressional Democrats won’t ever let us eliminate an entire federal department like the IRS or the Department of Education. It will take decades to make a serious run at something like that. So, what are some more modest improvements you suggest for improving our existing tax system over the next four years?

Huckabee: First, I strongly disagree with the premise that the FairTax can’t be passed. It will be a challenge, but undertaking those challenges is what leadership is about. The FairTax already has a tremendous amount of support and enthusiasm around the country and in Congress. People agree that our tax system is broken and needs radical, fundamental change. As president, I would be a Communicator in Chief who would do a great job explaining the FairTax to the American people and getting them to light up the congressional switchboard until Washington gets the message. It’s our long-term solution, it can be done, and we will do it.

As a pathway to the FairTax, there are several steps we can take. I would make the Bush tax cuts permanent and fix the alternative minimum tax once and for all. I would expand upon the Bush marginal rate reductions, capital gains rate reductions, and dividend rate reductions. I would reduce the marginal corporate tax rate.

I would eliminate the death tax.

I would make all tuition deductible, because I believe that education is an investment in human capital and should be treated at least as favorably as a business is treated when making a capital equipment purchase. Our best means of remaining competitive in the ever-expanding global marketplace is a well-educated American workforce. Education not only improves our national well-being, but is also the path to personal upward mobility.

I would provide a maximum 15.3 percent tax credit for tuition expenditures, tied to employment income and carried forward indefinitely. This replicates the effects of the FairTax by allowing workers to offset their payroll taxes with their tuition costs. The 15.3 percent cap equals the payroll taxes the family paid for the year.

We also need to consider increasing the IRA deduction limit. We should consider increasing small business and manufacturers expensing allowances. I would also investigate providing tax credits for healthcare. So there are short-term steps we can take on the path to the FairTax.

Pastore: 3. You’re accused of opposing vouchers, yet you have the endorsement of the National Education Association for your work in Arkansas, and you have the overwhelming support of home schoolers. This is an odd mix. What is your position on school choice, vouchers, charter schools, etc.?

I have the support of home schoolers because I was an ardent champion of their cause when I was governor. I appointed the first home school parent anywhere in the country to our State Board of Education.

My overriding concern is that every child in America has the opportunity to get a first-rate education—I am much less concerned with the means than with the end. I support school choice, vouchers and charter schools because different options work better in different settings. For example, vouchers may not work well in a rural area where there are no better alternatives within a reasonable distance for children to travel, but they may be the answer in an urban environment. If local districts wish to do it, if states wish to do it, I think that’s fine. It goes to the basic concept that education is a state’s decision.

I also think that we ought to have tax credits for a family whose decision is to put their children in an alternative environment. That’s one way to empower families.

I am extremely proud of my record in improving public schools in Arkansas. Everyone is used to seeing Arkansas near the very bottom of national education rankings. Yet we just soared to eighth in overall quality in the Quality Counts 2008 study produced by Education Week. My sowing hard-fought reforms in areas such as reading and math fundamentals, art and music in our schools, more demanding curricula and Advanced Placement classes, higher teacher pay and school accountability is reaping huge rewards for our children and their future.

Pastore: 4. You’re accused of being weak on national security and your statement that we have “an arrogant foreign policy” is troubling. We need to hear more clearly why you think that is. Why do you want to close Guantanamo? Do you really want to give “enemy combatants” full access to our court system? This too, is troubling. In spite of this, it sounds like you “get” the global war against radical Islam. Please convince us you’ve got what it takes to go toe to toe with Osama, Ahmadinejad, Kim Jung-il, Putin, Chavez and China.

Huckabee: My perspective on foreign policy has been shaped by my experiences as a governor. I’ve traveled to approximately 40 countries in my lifetime and met with many of the world’s leaders. As governor, I’ve traveled extensively not only in trade agreements and cultural exchanges, but I’ve chaired the U.S. chapter of the World League for Freedom and Democracy and worked with elected officials from other countries. I’ve been to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon, Israel (nine times), Egypt, all over Europe, Russia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. I think Ronald Reagan was a great example of a person who came to office with the same kind of skepticism and criticism. He hadn’t had foreign political experience, but he had judgment, he had clear principles that guided him. He understood that the U.S. should be the most powerful nation on earth, but had to use that power circumspectly.

I do not believe that we have an arrogant foreign policy. I believe that Secretary Rumsfeld behaved arrogantly in not listening to the military about how many troops we needed to invade Iraq initially and then in refusing for years to adopt a counterinsurgency strategy. It is the counterinsurgency strategy finally adopted under General Petraeus and Secretary Gates that has been so successful this past year in Iraq.

When I said I wanted to close Guantanamo, I wasn’t staking out new ground, I was stating my agreement with President Bush and Secretary Gates on that issue. Since then, Admiral Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has come forward to say he favors closing the base.

It’s not that I want to give “enemy combatants” access to our court system: the Supreme Court has already held that the prisoners’ rights are not dependent on whether they are at Guantanamo or on the U. S. mainland because Guantanamo is equivalent to U. S. soil. Whatever rights these foreign prisoners have—and we’ll know that better when the Boumediene case, which is pending before the Supreme Court, is decided – our government can’t deprive them of those rights by keeping them at Guantanamo. In Rasul, the Supreme Court held that the Guantanamo prisoners had a statutory right to habeas corpus; Boumediene will tell us if they have a constitutional right.

I have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with our enemies because I understand the seriousness of the threats we face. I want to expand and strengthen our military by increasing defense spending from less than 4 percent of our GDP to the 6 percent it was under President Reagan. I know that President Clinton’s “peace dividend” has become our “war deficit.” I want to add the 92,000 to our Army and Marines that President Bush has proposed, but I want to accomplish that sooner. I know that we need to upgrade our intelligence to get information about armed groups who are ideologically opposed to us all over the world—micro groups can cause macro damage in this age of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.

With respect to the war on terror, I understand the radical theology and ideology their ruthlessness is based on; I understand that they really want to establish an Islamic caliphate and destroy our civilization. I am concerned about Al Qaeda’s safe haven in Pakistan, which it is using not only to attack Afghanistan and plot against us, but also to undermine the Pakistani government. I know that we must win in Iraq, not only for the security of the Iraqis, but for the security of the entire region and our own security. I recognize Iran’s ambitions to spread westward and establish a “Shiite crescent” by causing the Sunni governments in its path to fall like dominoes, and I understand that we must have a strong, unified Iraq to serve as a bulwark against such Iranian expansionism. I am concerned about Iran’s links to Hamas and Hezbollah and its nuclear ambitions. After decades of containment, President Reagan adopted a new strategy in the Cold War—we win, they lose. My strategy in the war on terror—we win, they lose.

I recognize that China isn’t just an economic threat, but a military one as well. I know that they have been investing heavily in their military, especially their navy, which they see as a key instrument for projecting their power. Last year their military spending increased 18 percent. That means that in 17 of the past 18 years, they have had double-digit increases in military spending.

I will be very cautious in my dealings with North Korea. We recently found traces of highly-enriched uranium on aluminum tubes that they handed over to us, when they claim they’ve never had a program to enrich uranium. This comes on the heels of the Israeli raid on a Syrian nuclear facility involving material from North Korea. Recently they missed the important deadline of December 31st to disable their nuclear facilities; disclose their nuclear programs, facilities, and materials; disclose how much plutonium they have extracted; disclose their uranium enrichment program (the existence of which they deny); and disclose their transfer of nuclear materials and technology to other countries (which they also deny). Given the potential North Korean/terrorist nexus, it is essential that we are tough on North Korea as part of our war on terror.

In Russia, President Putin is spending his oil revenues updating his Soviet-era military. They have a new missile defense shield around Moscow, have been investing heavily in their Pacific Fleet, and have been developing new missiles, including a new ICBM that they have successfully tested.

We must remember that when the Soviet Union fell, we still had Russia. This is a country which has always had both imperialist ambitions and an inferiority complex relative to the west. Czarist history is a case study in schizophrenia, centuries of struggle between Westernizers and Slavophiles. We will continue to experience this push-pull, continue to have good days and bad with Russia, but overall it will be better than the Cold War. The bottom line is that Putin doesn’t want another terrorist attack like the school siege in Beslan any more than we want another 9/11. But he despises the loss of face from the fall of the Soviet Union and will do everything he can to reassert Russia’s strength and power—militarily, economically, diplomatically. I see him for what he is—a staunch nationalist in a country that has no tradition of democracy, just autocracy. The vacation from history is over. We must get back to work and continue to project our power as consistently and forcefully as Russia will hers.

Pastore: 5. Your position on illegal immigration is confusing. On the one hand, you’ve got the strongest immigration platform of all the candidates and you want to pardon border agents Ramos and Compean as your first presidential act. We all love this. But, on the other hand, you gave children of illegals in-state tuition breaks in Arkansas. Please explain this apparent inconsistency.

Huckabee: There isn’t an inconsistency—it’s a matter of which desk you sit behind. As governor, I had no control over immigration, which is a federal issue. I had no control over our borders or who came into my state. So I tried to improve something I did have control over--turning my state’s tax-takers into taxpayers. I proposed giving children who had gone through our schools and done very well academically, who were alcohol and drug-free, and who were applying for citizenship, the opportunity to compete for a very select academically-based scholarship along with their peers. I didn’t believe then, and I don’t believe now, that innocent children should be punished for the sins of their parents. There was no limit on the number of scholarships—everyone who qualified got one, so they wouldn’t have been taking scholarships away from another Arkansas resident. My plan was not adopted; no child ever received one of these scholarships. And contrary to distortions promoted by my political opponents, no children of illegals ever got in-state tuition breaks.

Pastore: 6. You have said that you want a national ban on smoking. This offends even the vast majority of non-smoking conservatives because it violates the principle of federalism. How serious are you about this?

Huckabee: This has been misinterpreted because I strongly support the principle of federalism. At a Lance Armstrong cancer forum last August, I said that if Congress presented me with legislation banning smoking in public places, I would sign it. That is because I would not oppose the overwhelming public support that such a congressional vote would reflect. But since such sentiment for federal legislation doesn’t exist at this time, and since I have also said that the responsibility for regulating smoking initially lies with the states, I believe that this issue is best addressed at the state and local levels.

Pastore: 7. We understand the need to talk about the environment and global warming for electoral purposes. How serious are you about governmental involvement in this, too?

Huckabee: I believe that we must be good stewards of our environment because God has entrusted us to take care of this world that He created for us. We don’t own the earth, it is on loan to us. In that light, I believe that we must take care of our air and water and forests and wildlife to keep both ourselves and the overall system healthy. We must pass the earth on to the next generation in at least as good a shape as it was handed to us. Anything less diligent and conscientious would be poor stewardship and an abdication of a God-given responsibility.

I believe that we must cut greenhouse gas emissions. A cap and trade system has worked well for acid rain caused by the emission of sulphur dioxide, and I believe it can also work well for the emission of carbon dioxide. At the same time, I don’t want to impose too great a burden on our businesses, which is why I believe that some of the allowances for emissions must be given to our businesses rather than auctioning off 100 percent of them, as some environmentalists are demanding.

About The Author
Mike Huckabee governed Arkansas from 1996-2007 and is running for the presidential nomination of the Republican party.
Listen to the man!!!
If most of the country clubbers, and their minions, would listen to Mr. Huckabee, rather than their cheerleaders (Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, and Hewitt) they would understand that Mr. Huckabee is a real conservative alternative in the GOP!

All the RINO and liberal name-calling is a bunch of bunk!

He doesn't carry anyone's flag. Is not backed by major business and is making a difference in the tenor of the GOP debate.

Mike Huckabee is the real alternative for the 2008 GOP!!!

Huckabee Lies
I didn't know one candidate could lie so many times in sych a short space.

Huckster = Carter
Sorry, Huckabee- you have never been a conservative and you are not one now. Reinventing yourself with rhetoric that completely contradicts your record and your blatantly dishonest representation of that record does not change that.

I don't believe a word this man says, including "the" and "I".

For one of many examples of the two-faced nature of his campaign, just look at his stance on a smoking ban. He opposes a smoking ban... unless he has the opportunity to sign a bill banning smoking. Then he's for it. Until then, he's against signing a non-existant bill.

Is there any aspect of his record Huckster hasn't misrepresented or lied about?

Great interview
Thank you for answering these questions, Gov. Huckabee.

Huckabee has been much more consistent (and believable) than Flip-Flop Mitt. He also has a record of getting things done, from improving student test scores to highway improvements to fostering significant job growth in his state. Huckabee's is a far better record than do-nothing Fred Thompson.

Too bad Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are so blinded by partisan rage they can't see the truth in front of their faces.

Huckabee says
"My overriding concern is that every child in America has the opportunity to get a first-rate education—I am much less concerned with the means than with the end."

That statement in perfectly in sync with the NEA. They are only concerned with teacher pay and gaining new union dues paying members. Although many hardworking teachers care a great deal about the education of our children, the NEA as an organization could care less.

As a voter, I am much more concerned with the means you intend to achieve the desired end. On many issues, conservatives and liberals agree on the end but, differ widely on the means to achieve that end.

You say alot of stuff that sounds decent. You also say a lot of stuff that presupposes the disbanding of Congress much like our democratic brethren. Are you running for president or king?

Cons blowing smoke
Hollowpoint, where's the inconsistency on the smoking issue?

---
1992 - campaign for US Senate
I would like to see smoking banned in public places, or at least a requirement that smoking cannot take place when it would infringe upon the clean air of nonsmokers.
---
Aug. 2007 - campaign for President
“If you are president in 2009 and Congress brings you a bill to outlaw smoking nationwide in public places, would you sign it?” Matthews asked.

“I would, certainly would. In fact, I would, just like I did as governor of Arkansas, I think there should be no smoking in any indoor area where people have to work,” Huckabee responded, triggering applause from the crowd.
---
Huckabee has consistently supported a smoking ban in workplaces, as do most Americans, THROUGH THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS! Even if he wanted to, he cannot force through such a ban unilaterally. Remember, separation of powers...

What's sad is how so many conservative pundits have distorted his statements on this (i.e. leaving off the "in public places" clause).

dav, angry, and hollow
You are kidding right. If you believe that Huck is a habitual liar, you have taken leave of your senses. He answers questions in a forthright way. He has answered many more questions than any of the other candidates. What part about the differences between a governor and a president do you not comprehend. I am so sick of the idiotic assertions that Huck is not conservative, a liar, manipulative, a mormon bigot, etc. Huck is a Conservative. Pro-life, Pro-2nd amendment, Pro marriage, pro lowering taxes, and the list goes on. If the battle is for who is the most conservative, the choice is Huck and Thompson. and Thompson loses on a lack of executive, governing experience. it isn't even close.

This continual character bashing has got to stop.
Educate your ignorance or be quiet.

It is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Letter to Huckabee, Part 1

Subject: Internet freedom

Dear Governor Huckabee:

I am a lifelong conservative Republican who enjoys Internet poker. Your response to the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling’s candidate integrity quiz, where you stated that you support a federal prohibition on Internet poker, concerns me greatly. I, and many like me, strongly desire individual freedom and liberty, including the freedom to play poker on the Internet. I hope you'll reconsider your position.

I do not believe the federal government should be in the business of telling Americans what to do with their own money in their own homes, especially as Internet poker is not illegal in most states. Federal case law has consistently held that the Wire Act applies only to sports betting (1). As for state laws, Kentucky (my home), like the majority of states, has no laws prohibiting Internet poker. The Department of Justice says it disagrees. However, as they have chosen to not test this assumption in any court against any Internet poker operator, their confidence in their opinion appears to be somewhat suspect. For the record, the DoJ also believes Internet horse race wagering is illegal, despite the Interstate Horse Racing Act (IHA). I think we can agree that they are clearly wrong on this, as I assume you do not believe the DoJ can arbitrarily ignore acts of Congress.....

Finally, Huckabee's own words
Fred Thompson goes around pretending like he is the only "real" conservative among the Republicans. The record does not support that.

Mike Huckabee was overwhelmingly re-elected twice as Governer of Arkansas. They don't seem to think Huckabee is a liar, a liberal, or any other uninformed, lazy, Fred Thompson style attack.

Mitt Romney was never re-elected. So much for successes.

John McCain has never governed a state (just like Fred Thompson). Furthermore, he still wants amnesty for illegal aliens.

Mike Huckabee has just become the first candidate to sign NumbersUSA's No-Amnesty Pledge.

While the other candidates talk about what they want to accomplish, Mike Huckabee says how he would do it.

For example, he wants to eliminate the current tax system which penalizes productivity (the more you earn, the more you pay), with the FairTax which rewards those who save and invest.

What do the other candidates say about ideas like these? They say it's too hard, it can't be done, it will never happen.

I will vote for a cadidate with ideas, with plans, with commitments. A candidate with vision. A leader.

Letter to Huckabee, Part 2
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) did not change the legal status of online poker. It merely restricted financial transactions for Internet gaming already unlawful under existing federal and state law. As a result, banks have been placed in the unenviable position of enforcing ambiguous and unclear laws. They have submitted a lot of comments on the proposed UIGEA regulations to both the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve since then. Banks and banking associations including Bank of America, Kentucky’s own Farmers Bank & Capital Trust Co., Wells Fargo, the Credit Union National Association, the American Bankers Association, and many others have submitted comments complaining about many aspects of UIGEA. Their stated concerns include the lack of a definition of the term “unlawful Internet gambling”, the unreasonable compliance burden UIGEA places on the nation’s banking industry, and many other areas that are traditionally not within the province of banks. Additionally, several horse racing related interests commented on the issue of “overblocking” of legal transactions, which has the potential to significantly harm my state’s equine industry (despite the “carve-out” for the industry).

To help clarify this situation, I ask that you support passage of legislation like HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, and HR 2610,the Skill Game Protection Act. These bills clarify the Wire Act to bring it into the 21st Century while respecting our freedoms. Our nation really needs clear laws regarding Internet poker and gaming, especially now that Congress has outsourced its enforcement to our nation’s banks. Thank you for your consideration.

Wishing you and yours a prosperous New Year,

[name and address]

Huck
says, "I believe that we must cut greenhouse gas emissions. A cap and trade system has worked well for acid rain caused by the emission of sulphur dioxide, and I believe it can also work well for the emission of carbon dioxide. "

Buzzzzz. Wrong answer. I take it from this that you buy into the global warmism sky is falling crap. Automatic disqualification. I do not intend to participate in a cap and trade system to be able to exhale. When you get your carbon footprint to zero, come back and talk to me about mine. I like carbon. We are carbon based life forms.

btw, the theory of sulphur dioxide causing acid rain has been well documented and can be considered a fact barring new evidence. Global warmism caused by carbon dioxide is so far from fact it is not even the least bit funny to compare the two. Take a science class.

As a self proclaimed believer that God created all this in six days, how can you then say that the science is in and we are all going to die from carbon dioxide, the most common gas on the planet.

I do not like you Mike but, if you get the nomination you will get my vote as the lesser of the evils.

Liberty, Mike???
Huckabee wishes to ban everything he thinks is bad for people. He wants a big government nanny state that prevents people from smoking, playing poker on the Internet, or from eating fatty food. Well, this isn't my idea of a conservative, nor is it my idea of freedom. Fortunately, NH sent him packing to SC.

I'll not vote for him under any circumstances. I hope other who don't fear freedom will take a stand as well, as the folks in NH did.

How sad is Huckabee, not trusting Americans with the freedom to choose to play poker in their own homes with their own money? Sorry Tax Hike Mike, but you won't get your theocracy just yet!!

Huckabee's NO Carter
I am getting sick of people calling Huckabee a Jimmy Carter. He is NOTHING like Carter. Carter hated the military and wouldn't allow military uniforms in the White House. Huckabee has a plan for the military. visit http://www.mikehuckabee.com and read his "Veterans Bill of Rights" then try telling me he's like Carter!

Never to be president
Mike

If you somehow you do manage to get elected my vote for or against you will really not matter since your nomination will 100% guarantee a Democrat victory.

Your true hypocritical colors have been on full display ever since your absurd "interview" with the NYT.

Do the right thing and end this mind-boggling, vainglorious fantasy of yours.

Huck is a joke
Real conservative want to up hold the constitution not change it fit their interpretation of the Bible.

Thanks Mike
This is a good clear statement on the issues. I hope that people will listen and check the facts for themselves instead of passing judgments based on what a bunch of biased Republican pundits have said. Unfortunately most of the distortions of your record and your positions are coming right out of powerful figures in the Republican party.

Thank you, Frank Pastore &Mike Huckabee!
I really appreciate Mike Huckabee taking time out from his schedule to answer Frank's column! How refreshing to have someone running for a political office who takes time to answer the concerns of the "little people" as Mitt Romney calls us.

I was trying to decide between Fred Thompson & Mike Huckabee, but had some concerns. I've been looking at the polls & realized that a vote for Thompson is a vote for McCain - no thanks. Then I saw this column and am further reassured. Now I know for sure that I will vote for Huckabee not Thompson.

"First, I am a fiscal conservative"
"When I left office, the tax rates remained exactly the same as when I began almost 11 years earlier"

Only a liberal would consider that to be strong evidence of fiscal conservatism.

Limited Knowledge
My knowledge of Mr. Huckabee is limited. I've heard Rush and read Ms. Coulter's opinion of his politics, and they are usually right on target.

Mr. Huckabee does a decent job explaining his positions, but does his rhetoric align with his actions as governor?

He loses any chance of my support when he equates global warming with acid rain. As someone else indicated, acid rain is based on solid science, while global warming caused by human actions is very unclear and the theories have been driven by left wing extremism. No credible conservative would embrace left wing propaganda. Mr. Huckabee's willingness to join the global warming crowd puts all his conservative anwers into doubt in my mind.

Nice reversal pandering!
Mr. Pastore's propaganda piece, and Governor Huckabee's sudden change of issues are just remarkable.
I still have Mr. Huckabee's record as governor, in Arkansas to speak for istself!
As soon as he gains the presidency, he will do another turn to larger government in the name of loving of our neighbor, and Stewardship.
Whenever, you hear good stewardship, hold on to your pockets. Socialism in on its way.

Good Point Ragnar
Mr. Huckabee loses my support when he embraces global warming fear-mongering, but I have to believe at a conservative bragging about keeping the tax rate stagnant isn't really a conservative at all.

How does Mr. Huckabee's tax rate as Arkansas governor compare to Mr. Clinton's tax rate? Any decent conservative should be able to cut a liberal's tax rate in half.

I happen to be among those that recognize that lower taxes deliver increased tax revenue and a stronger economy. Why wouldn't Mr. Huckabee cut taxes to increase revenue? That is what I consider the conservative (and logical) approach.

Huckabee's odd reasoning
"At a Lance Armstrong cancer forum last August, I said that if Congress presented me with legislation banning smoking in public places, I would sign it. That is because I would not oppose the overwhelming public support that such a congressional vote would reflect."

How odd!

If such a bill passed by 51-to-49 in the Senate and 220-to-215 in the House, would that mean there was "overwhelming public support" for it? Or simply that half the country cobbled together just enough of a coalition to ram its ideas down the throat of the other half?

Besides, by Huckabee's reasoning, the President should never veto any social legislation bills--because the mere fact that the bills got passed by Congress is ipso facto proof of their "overwhelming public support"!!!

promises promises
i have found that if a person has to sign documents and pledge that he will do something then there is something wrong with his integrity.

no one believes him unless they get it in writing. i personally do not believe mr huckabee. he earned a D/F from the Cato Institute which grades all of the governors in the nation. (economics worse than the dem governors)

from club for growth:
http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2006/10/mike_huckabee_gets_an_ f.php

"According to the Cato data, Huckabee's most recent score was broken down into 3 parts:

'F' for revenue variables (he was dead last among all 50 governors)
'C' for spending variables (he was 16th)
'F' for tax rates (he was...you guessed it...dead last again) "

he did not mention that the biggest tax cut in arkansas history was put together by his predecessor before he was put in jail. huckabee just got to sign it and of course take credit for it. why doesn't he mention that.

he is for the fair tax - great. it will take the repealing of the 16th amendment. does he have a magic wand?? why not a flat tax which is much more feasible.

his position on AGW is ridiculous. (like the dems)

his position on healthcare is moronic. doesn't this man read? CDC studies show no advantage to the wellness programs.

i don't care what he signs, look at what he has done! huck is a morph between a bill clinton and a jimmy carter. but he is still a politician!

it may be better to crash and burn with a dem than with either mccain or huckabee.

It's finally good to see
Huckabee's supporters on this website. His record has been distorted beyond recognition. The bashers, including Hugh "I can't wait to marry Mitt" Hewitt speak in half truths and leave out facts that detract from their argument.

Mike is for the Fair Tax. anyone for the Fair Tax CANNOT be for bigger gov't.

Huckabee = running away from the truth
"His record has been distorted beyond recognition."

The reason being is that what he is saying now (outside of the 2nd amendment and abortion issue) is completely different than what he did as a Governor. Not even he with his selective, and at times faulty, memory can run away from that.

"Mike is for the Fair Tax"

Yes, with Mike you'll get taxes, but don't expect them to be fair.

"anyone for the Fair Tax CANNOT be for bigger gov't."

That is completely illogical. The way to slow government is to 1) reduce how much it takes in (Mike's record proves he didn't) and 2) to make it stop spending what it doesn't have and selling the debt to China. In the end changing the format of the tax code won't make a bit of difference unless we stop spending what we don't have. Mike has proven that he is a populist (hint: not a fiscal conservative) simply by his record. Populist = socialist. Regardless of how many times he changes his website this fact remains. Is that what you want in our Government? Because that's what he's proven he can deliver. And that's not Conservative. That's why he's getting hammered.

A Few More Questions for the Reverend
1. Reverend Huckabee, Why did you feel it necessary to interrupt Mayor Giuliani's response to the Youtube Biblethumper's question (you remember--the witch-trial interrogative "DOO YOUUU BEEELIEEVE IN EVVVERY WOORRD OF THIS BOOK?") Why did you assume that Giuliani needed your help? And why did you think that it was YOUR place to help the mayor, especially before he had even a second to give his answer?

Giuliani's response to the question was intelligent, sincere, and honest. I thought he did answer the question at least as well as anyone else--including you, Reverend Huckabee.

2. Pastor Huckabee, Why did you feel it necessary to take a cheap shot at Mormonism? Romney's politics should have been your target--not his religion. Should the Mormons throughout this country fear a President Huckabee who doesn't consider them to be legitimate Christians and thus unentitled to the liberty delineated in the founding documents of this country?

3. Minister Huckabee, Why do you act as though you have a monopoly on faith, and especially on Christian faith? Why do you feel it necessary to single yourself out as the one and only Christian candidate this year? If those men aren't CHRISSSHHHJEN enough, what is your opinion of the rest of us?

4. Clergyman Huckabee, Why do you feel it necessary to revise the language of the U.S. Constitution to make it more godly? Do you think the Founding Fathers slighted God in the language they used?

5. Holyman Huckabee, have you ever had a real job in your life--besides selling the word of God (which Jesus and His Apostles never took a penny for, by the way)?

You have an image problem--that of a sanctimonious, self-righteous, self-appointed spokesman for God. What can you do to assure us that you won't nauseate us with your phony piety for four years?

Fellow American
Your anti-Christian tone is so obvious!1. By the way Guiliani needs all the help he could get!He is such a hypocrite its sad. He claims to be a Catholic in good standing but yet is Pro-Abortion by the way Abortion is very anti-Catholic.2.Do your research on Mormonism, they do believe that Satan was a brother to Christ and all other believers before he rebelled against God. 3. Definition of being a Christian is very simple: Jesus Christ was the Son of God who was all Man and All God and was Crucified to give Man atoinment for their sins. Thats it so if you have accepted Jesus Christ as the Master of Your life your a Christian. 4.The Constitutions has one ammendment that is Anti-God and that is the Right to Abortion. Which by the way wasnt put in by the founding fathers.5.I assure you that if you had to live the life of a grassroots Pastor you would be surprised of the hours they work, they are always available for their congregation, try it for awhile. The disciples and Jesus himself where taken care of by their followers and many others in the communities they were in. I hope that you would just check out my information dont take my word for it. The information regarding Jesus and disciples can be found all over the New Testament. The Constitution in original form is can be found on the internet. Career Info can be found on internet about Ministers. Truth about Mormonism can also be found all over the internet. Take the challenge and God Bless

That would be Romney Davenp35!

You missed my point entirely.

I oppose self-righteousness, not righteousness; phony Christian posturing, not Christianity.

I respect sincere faith; I disdain exploiting religion for political purposes.

fellowAmerican - are you a Mormon?
Are you a Mormon? Your hatred towards former Pastor Huckabee and your attitude towards Christian pastors who work loooong hours tending to their flocks sounds just like a lot of other hateful Mormons who post here.

@jritterbush
Quesitonable statement #1 from jritterbush:

"Too bad Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are so blinded by partisan rage they can't see the truth in front of their faces."

You use the term "partisan" but I don't think it means what you think it means. Rush is mostly a Fred guy, largely because Fred is the most conservative of the GOP candidates. But Huck is also a republican, just like Fred so it would be hard to call someone partisan for supporting one person in the party over another person IN THE SAME PARTY. Rush has always been a conservative first, a Republican second. Now, if Rush supported Fred over Hillary, that MIGHT be considered partisan given that Fred is in Rush's party and Hillary is not but even then, I doubt Rush would be taking the stand on the basis of partisanship, if you catch my meaning.

Questionable statement #2 from Arndt:

"If the battle is for who is the most conservative, the choice is Huck and Thompson."

Actually, the facts are completely the opposite. Actually, if it is a battle for who is most LIBERAL, the choice is between Huck and Rudy. Thompson is to the right of Paul and Paul is to the right of Mitt who is to the right of McCain who is to the right of either Huck or Rudy.

Someone else in this thread claimed that Huck was more conservative than Fred. I guess we're not using the same definitions. Huck is a Bush "compassionate conservative" which is to say, not that conservative at all.

@ex-Wyomingite
Extremely well stated. You point out that Huck may very well have his heart in the right place and I believe he does. I don't personally subscribe to the opinion that Huck is like Carter (who is a despicable person IMHO) or Bill Clinton. This is EXTREMELY unfair to Huckabee.

What worries me about much of this kind of rhetoric is that all of us on the right side of the aisle are stooping to calling the other guy's candidate evil and a liar, tactics that are used all the time by the left and should remain on the left.

Most of us here at TH are on the same side. Yes, some here are more liberal than others and might prefer one of the more liberal GOP candidates. Others of us, such as myself, are considerably further to the right and prefer the more conservative candidates.

But ultimately, we want to beat the Dems and keep from becoming a totalitarian state. So rather than hurl ad hominems, how about reasoned debate?

For my part, my problem with Huckabee is his populist rhetoric. He is VERY MUCH like our current president. A guy who sees government as a way of doing good. I don't subscribe to this notion and I don't think the founders would have thought much of it either.

Social conservatism REQUIRES government to be weak and minimalist. Social conservative need to realize that the power they put into the hands of government to do their charitable bidding can be easily used by the same over-reaching government to destroy everything they hold dear.

Hitchhiker
The Means is nothing without the ends. Thats basic logic! As a Home schooling parent i completely understand his statement. The point is get the child a good education so they can be a productive member of society. How thats done is irrelevent. If you think for a minute that the Public School System is answering this call think again. Teachers have nothing to do with it, they are over worked and under paid! You couldnt give me their job on a Silver Platter. Administrators,School Board Members, Dept of Edu workers they are the ones who have the gold spoon jobs, High Salaries for little work, Id take it any day of the week! Dismantle the Public School System and go back to the drawing board! I know this is a pipe dream, so hey at least give me a little tax break for not using the system and allow me more freedom to give my child an education that will prepare her to be a productive citizen with good character!

Who am I, American by 10,000 or more years.
Great grandson of Apache Chief Mangus Colorados.
We lost the southwest to the Spanish and Mexicans assisted by men of America just like this Huckster.
Vietnam Vet., member of the swiftboat blog who proved up the lies and fraud of Lt. for life John F. Kerry, and we did it with facts. Just like we the people are doing on this current fraud Huckabee former Gov. of Ark-in-saw.
I come to this table with 400 years of knowledge of liars and frauds, after the wars we became very good horse breeders from our family prior.
We do deal with lots of horse traders, and we deal with lots of Baptist preachers it being granddad is a life long decon in our Baptist church, and I have lots of experiance with preachers who do not tell the truth. This is one of them before you now. He speaks with the most wicked of forked words. He is a great danger to America, he stands in the door of real immigration control, he stands in the door of truth and justice, Huey Long is the one example that comes to mind on this one, and he is very likely to become even more a danger if we do not stop his lies and fraud now, the line must be drawn clear, on more lies, it must end now.

In fact this one is one to fear, and that comes from some one who spent 2 years on and near the DMZ of Vietnam 1966/1969 to include Tet. I do know the need for fear when there is great danger about.

Mark my words no good can come from this one.

Hate? No, I don't hate Huckabee. Hate is something I feel toward child molesters, rapists, murderers, terrorists, and occasionally when I am not being charitable, Bill Maher, Al Franken, Joy Bayhar, and Al Sharpton.

(I've noticed that you throw the word "hate" around a lot in your posts.)

I don't even hate what Huckabee is doing. I'm just very annoyed by it. I very much dislike the sanctimonious approach that Huckabee has taken in this campaign. I think I conveyed that clearly.

I like the much better Baptist in the GOP field--Duncan Hunter. If the evangelicals, in their search for the conservative evangelical candidate who could unite the party, had done their homework and gotten behind Hunter instead of Huckabee, we would all be better off. Duncan Hunter, a man of faith, would have united the party.

Unfortunately, this generation of evangelical voters wants a heapin' helpin' of piety in their candidate. That may very well sink the GOP.

You may have a lot of respect for paid ministers. Fine. To each his own. I realize that they provide a servcie that some people want or have been guilted into paying for. I am unimpressed with the profession generally. Conversely, I am impressed by their congregants--most of whom TRULY work hard in REAL jobs. You think ministers work harder than the rest of us? I strongly disagree.

It's easy to find the video clip. This is a man who wants to change the U.S. Constitution so that it "is in God's standards," whatever that means.

I'm a Christian -- and I think this guy is a looney-toons, big-government, control-everyone kind of maniac in sheep's clothing. I don't want the language of the Constitution changed to include God's standards. I want the Constitution, as it is written, to be adhered to -- and that would mean sizing government DOWN by about 50%.

Americans should be throwing fruit at this fruitcake. He wants to change the Constitution of the United States based on his religious beliefs. Does no else find think this is maniacal?

And since when have we Allowed anyone, any group or Sub-Group to dictate a National Religion for the Coutry - 'Anyone who does Not Practice Cannot Apply!

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, You are too predictable. It is failed only in your eyes and the rest of the BDS afflicted democrats. Republicans acknowledge what good he has done and also where he has failed. We are currently discussing the issue of which candidate, among many qualified, to face ya'lls typical communist mannequin candidate. I know life is so boring over at the Hufpost since a couple of you guys get together over coffee once every four years to decide what color puppet you think might just make it this time but, get a life or something instead of meddling in things of which you cannot understand.

You think its funny republicans arguing over important issues that affect our lives when you know the media has roughly half the country voting dem anyway and, who knows, this might be the year you get lucky and get another communist president. That is all that is important to you.
I would go with the girl. At least you can avoid another Monica moment.

Mitt must be spreading alot
of money around to have so many posters getting all bent out of shape about a hack governor who doesn't have a chance of getting the nomination. Hmmm, isn't that strange, we must attack him because he has no chance of getting the nomination. That makes about as much sense as everything else they are saying.

What percentage of Mormons do you think support Mitt?

One reason Huck gets so much criticism is that he has a record of governing. Other than Romney he is the only one with a record.

So you all go ahead and put in some bozo who has never governed and is an attorney who is professionally trained in twisting language.

Clinton, Hussein Obama, Edwards, Thompson, Paul, and McCain have no idea what it takes to run a government, so essentially their supporters are saying they can learn on the job.

By the numbers
1. If you want smarter government vote for Romney he has the experience to reorganize government and make it work much better. Huck has the experience to be Pres of the SBC and would be very good at that. He is clueless on organizational structure and the economy.

2. The "fair tax" is a gift to the rich, a massive tax increase on the middle class, unworkable and really a fairly tale that will never be passed. It is all hot air. Huck endorsed it early to get money organization and votes from the fair tax crowd. It was a smart move then but a real albatross now and especially in the general. Ask any Rep who has tried to beat a Dem by running on the fair tax. You get killed by the Dems on the fair tax.

3. I personally do not trust any Rep who is endorsed by the NEA. That speaks volumes about how liberal Huck really is.

4. Huck bashed Bush on Iraq and used Dem talking points to do it. He may be flip flopping now but he left a clear impression. He is as clueless as Obama on foreign policy.

5. Huck was about as open borders as he could be until he figured out in Dec of 07 that he had to get on the right side of immigration. He made that flip without a sound from the press. Huck is a much bigger flipper and more Johnny come lately than Romney who he bashed relentlessly in IA on abortion. Can you say hypoflip?

The Engineer" comes out for his right to internet gambling. His issue in the 2008 election IS PLAYING INTERNET POKER? Yes, Virginia, you will still have freedom to sin. No problem. You have to want to be better, no one can change your heart but you could ask God if you wanna be better--not a presidential candidate...sorry, I'm ROFLOL. I'm human...so sorry.lollollol. Okay sobering up.

Education does not make one wise, generous or helpful...only a change of heart can do that, an internal transformation. The Golden Rule says to do to others what you want them to do to you. At least give that some thought.

Well, before gambling rights, I'd like the freedom to choose my religion, my work, choose educational styles for myself and my minor children, I want freedom to assemble, no death tax, no marriage tax, no taxes on productive work and no tax on capital gains, no socialized medicine and no repeat Clintononicks.

He that doesn't work should not eat...or play poker. Incentive to work happens under Mr. Huckabee--therefore we get to work and eat, and that's for all of us, Mr. Engineer. Food happens with work, even in America.

Choosing my candidate...
Jesus wasn't a boring GOD/MAN. Nope not crazy either. He attracted people, loved them, healed them, fed them and communicated with them. He wept at the death of a friend, celebrated a marriage and made wine out of water and His Words, stood up for the vulnerable, raised the dead, threw money changers out of "MY FATHER'S HOUSE", and walked on water--not frozen.

No candidate is perfect in our prez election, no church is perfect on earth, no saint wasn't first a sinner. Press and patriot go nose to nose at times, and this is the time for all good men to come to the aid [not of their party but] of their country, with priorities of survival and leadership in a world gone awry.

I just sent a small donation of %50 to the next President of the USA, I'm off to my first Huckabee MEET-UP...NEXT WEDNESDAY.

As an elected delegate in MN for the GOP, I'm suddenly more convinced I was right to wait to decide on a candidate. Now I know.

Not Guiliani...I got that right away...what a lifestyle, and to much 'kingpinsmanship'. I waited on Romney, and saw evil in bad ads. I love my hero John McCain, approved by the Conservative Union in his voting record 83% to Fred Thompson's 86%...nearly twins. Wisdom, humor and conservative maverick...not boring like some of my Republican rank and file. Sticks his finger in the eye of elephants past their prime, and they don't move, proving that they have seen their taxidermist.

Now, I have a candidate. God bless you Mr Huckabee...one with God is a majority. You've given us a chance to choose life over death...therefore GOD BLESS AMERICA! Just giving money won't do it. You didn't have me at "HELLO", but my heart says you're alive, kind to kids, strong--no nonsense with security. You have my heart--I'm READY FOR MORE MAKING LIFE BETTER, FAIR, STRONGER IN DEFENSE, AND GENTLER AND MORE KIND WITH THOSE WHO NEED HELP RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA. BRING IT ON--the election, I mean.

plagiarism
Not a bad platform, especially the parts that are direct quotes from Romney and McCain. I guess there is an advantage to waiting to talk about actual policy until late in the game since then you can see what everyone else has done that works and copy it--way to be the last one to turn in your homework Huck.

Isn't carrying anyone's flag? He is carrying CFR's flag. He has admitted he is getting his foreign affairs advice from director of CFR.

Read their documents. This organization believes national sovereignty is an "immature concept". They are for the North American Union. The agenda for NAu is well advanced. Bush has been holding summits on integration for the last three years under SPP. No conservative or PATRIOT would get anywhere near CFR. (Darling Fred is a member and all the top tier either party support agenda.)

Why was he up for 14 ethics violations? Why did he destroy hard drives on all the computers before he left office? Why has the reputable, conservative judicial watch listed him as one of the top 10 most corrupt pols?

Fair tax is a joke. Does a rich family pay 4-5 times as much on food as a lower/middle class family? 4-5 times as much on their car? How many know that under "fair" tax people buying a home they will live in has to pay tax on it. Person buying investment properties does not have to pay tax.

FLAT tax is fair. Close ALL the loopholes. That is fair. Who controls gov? Who pays for their sorry rear ends? Do you really think they are not going to get the best deal? With consumption tax only are they going to pay taxes on their interest/dividends? I can't believe anyone is stupid enough to fall for this.

Fair Tax is a Gimmick!

You know, it would really be nice if we restructered the system, and it made all the problems go away, but it is not going to happen.

The problems are in the human heart, not in the system.

Does anyone HONESTLY believe that the cheaters are going to shape up because we change the method by which we collect taxes?

Does anyone HONESTLY believe that the system will be more "fair?"

How is it fair, that the so-called "fair tax" will essentially tax poor people on 100% of their earnings, since they have to spend 100% of what they make just on the basics that keep a roof over their heads?

And I also want to point out that the likelyhood of tax fraud is not going down. All that money going through a smaller number of fingers? Don't you realize that stores can hire hackers to under-report the sales?

And what about all the blackmarket stores that are going to spring up, especially in the Southwest, where people can just drive back and forth across the border, picking up produce to sell in their garages without the 30% tax markup?

These will be enforcement nightmares that will increase the tax enforcers rather than reduce them. Don't you realize that the *new and improved* IRS will have as much power as they do now, only this time they will be going through your house to be sure you don't sell anything without collecting and paying taxes?

And would somebody explain to me, what is going to prevent the tax-and-spending Fools on the Hill from raising and raising and raising taxes?

This is a big pipe dream.

The Fair Tax will do nothing to stop
welfare fraud. If you want to stop welfare fraud, then enforce the friggin' law!

Part of the reason we waste so much flippin' money is that we give it away to people who lie and cheat.

Around where I live, it is obvious to everyone that people are cheating blatantly, driving expensive cars and paying for their groveries with food stamps.

We also give away huge piles of money to people who shouldn't even be in this country! If the poor people of Mexico need help, let the rich people of Mexico help them!!! Enforce the borders and stop giving my money away to interlopers!

I am struggling to pay my rent, and am still being taxed up the wazoo, while the government officials sit around, dreaming up new ways of spending my money!

How is this fair? This waste is not going to change, just because of the so-called "Fair Tax!"

Hitler
how about some ?'s for hitler ehhh FRANK?

Here's how it would go....

Frank asks hitler after he has killed 6-8 million Jews and others why he is a mass murderer?

Hitler (in hucks words),,,,
I am most certainly not a mass murderer. If you look at it logically Frank those 6-8 million folks were going to die within 80 years anyway, and nobody is calling KEVORKIAN a murderer now are they?

These folks were also very dangerous to themselves and others because they did not believe in the TRUE christ. Even though I am and was the DICTATOR of germany when my troops did this I HAD NO CONTROL over them (just like the illegals). It's not my responsibility to go around seeing if these folks are really being killed or not.

The $ i raised for the WAR germany waged was purely for DEFENSE purposes. It was not until I heard that JEWS believe JESUS is (not the brother of SATAN like the mormons but) Jews believe he was just a nice guy or a prophet, not the son of GOD either. You know as well as I do that gods will is to SLAY all those that don't recognize the true god.... So I helped him out. Thus I cleaned up these folks because I am the defender of christianity... not a murderer..

And there you have it folks,,, Hitler the peace bringer (in hucks own words).

Huckabee IS a Conservative!
It continues to amaze me how many "so-called conservatives" still refuse to take YES for an answer with regards to Governor Huckabee. You blindly follow the insider Republican Establishment and Establishment pundits like Coulter and Limbaugh as if you are mindless lemmings. I've been involved in politics at an inside level, and I'm very aware of how Republican politics works. County Chairman and most elected officials take their cues from the top and simply support who they're told to. They don't look at issues themselves but simply take the Talking Points they are given. I got tired of that and refused to be a part of that anymore. I support Republicans at a grass roots level who I believe to TRULY to be conservative in Who They Are, and not just what positions they take.

The Establishment and all it's talking heads are against Mike Huckabee for one reason and one reason only, They Can't Control Him! So many millions and millions of dollars are funneled through Washington D.C. based on favoritism, no bid contracts, and other under the table methods which keep the political wheels well greased. Once you see just how strong of a conservative President Huckabee will be many of you will be ashamed you bought into all the crap you did. Sadly more of you will still keep on being lemmings.

Mike Huckabee 2008!

Dumb comment by Huck
Huck just made some really dumb comments that all ads that are not approved by the candidate should be illegal.

What about our Constitutional rights to free political speech. If I want to run an ad against a candidate I have that right. It is God given. Who is Huckabee to take away my God Given rights.

Please keep this communist clown away from the white house and the Constitution. What kind of judges would he try to put on the SC. Judges who would implement the Gospel according to Huck?

I support the marriage amendment but do not want Huck anywhere near the Constitution. He is dangerous. More dangerous than McCain.

Thanks to all Evangelicals who vote for anyone other than Huckabee. I am still mad at McCain for restricting my speech right with his unconstitutional reform bill but he is not as bad as Huckabee which is really sad.

First of all, I came out for my freedom to play poker, not to gamble. There is a difference. Gambling is wagering based on chance. Poker is a game of skill.

Poker, and even gambling, aren't sins. You know what sins are? Sins aren't what createinmeacleanheartJESUS doesn't like. Sins are what JESUS himself doesn't like. Nowhere in the Bible is there a prohibition on gaming. So, please don't make up new sins.

And, even if it were, the Bible doesn't command you to pass laws taking my freedoms. It tells individuals to not sin.

"He that doesn't work should not eat...or play poker. Incentive to work happens under Mr. Huckabee--therefore we get to work and eat, and that's for all of us, Mr. Engineer. Food happens with work, even in America."

Huh? First of all, I work very hard as an engineer. Secondly, winning poker players work hard to develop winning games, so I do that as well.

Anyway, this isn't shaping up to be the year of the big government theocracy. I can't imagine running in the general election on a platform of changing the Constitution to match what some think the Bible says.

Fair Tax defeatists
Those of you who are railing against the Fair Tax have clearly not even looked at the basic outline of it.
We are already paying taxes on what we buy because businesses have to pay a corporate tax which they then pass on to consumers - us.
The Fair Tax includes a prebate that would untax the poor.
The biggest irony about those railing against the people of Mexico getting our money is that they would be paying taxes along with the rest of us!

There will always be tax cheaters no matter what system we have - look at the Fair Tax website to pick up the details instead of just using an uninformed imagination.

I believe that any true intelligent person that votes, will not just listen to what Mike Huckabee's rivals are saying, but check the facts out.
I believe Fred Thompson is behind a lot of the dirty tricks because when he tried to blast Mike Huckabee in the S.C. debate, about closing down Gitmo and being against President Bush, it back fired and came out in the news that Adm.Mike Mullens, Defense Secretary Of State Robert Gates and President Bush also wanted to shut down Gitmo. Just a fews days later Fred Thompson was on Fox News, accusing Mike Huckabee of push-polling him and McCain and other trying to drive a wedge between Huckabee and McCain, because Huckabee was always saying he respected McCain.
If any one hasn't noticed these dirty tricks, didn't start until Fred Thompson seen his attack on Mike Huckabee back fired on him.
Not only that, but when they had the table debate,
when Mike started to say he wanted to cut the death tax, and first just said death, Thompson made a remark like he was kidding, then Huckabee joked with him, in a lower voice Thompson made a rude remark and Huckabee just let it pass.
Mike Huckabee is above that behavior and doesn't have to stoop to dirty tricks, Thompson is out for blood and will stoop to anything to try and knock Huckabee out.Thompson is just what he looks like....a dirty old man.

Scary People That Can Vote
I can't believe some of the comments on here, to think you people that have commented with such dis-repectful and negative things about Mike Huckabee, it is obvious you do not know what you are talking about.
None of your negative comments sounded like you have an ounce of intelligence.
If you disagree about someone you could have at lest done it in an intlligent manner.
It is scary to think people like you are allowed to vote.

global warming faux pas
As one who spent a career teaching and doing research in environmental issues, as one who has read hundreds of refereed papers related to the subject, and as one who has himself done many dozens of calculations regarding various aspects of the issue, I guarantee that the anthropogenic global warming theory is a scam. How the scam was generated and how it works is for another (very long) post.

Huckabee loses me with his mixed-up science.

Once Upon a Time in America
Huckabee is one of those presumptive leaders who come along every once and while "on a mission from GOD," who believes only he knows what is best for the people. The danger is that they end up mangling the Constitution and depriving some people of their rights for the supposed benefit of the majority. Americans, however, cherish their freedom and recognize that threats to that freedom come not only from the socialist left but also from the religious right. We have abundant evidence that when you mix politics with religion you come up with an unholy, fascistic brew. America has become a more secular society, whether we like it or not, so I am confident that the Huckster has no chance of winning the presidency even if he is nominated by the Republican Party.

Hucka-Hypocrits

...before you step off that cliff up ahead and disappear into the abyss!!

W/O=

Oh Huck.....
Your illegal immigration plan has a huge loophole in it right where you say

"Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years."

A 120-day window to do what?

Where is your plan to bring back jobs to Americans?

Do you believe Free Trade is Fair Trade?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

THE REAL HUCKABEE

The links below will give you THE REAL HUCKABEE while he Governor of Arkansas and why he should not even be a candidate for POTUS. He would be worse than HRC or Obama as POTUS! He cut a deal with President Calderon of Mexico for a Consulate to hand out matricular cards to illegal aliens...and more.

Real Question

The real question is cutting taxes without the needed spending cuts, which has driven out of control debt and drove the dollar in the ground fiscally responsible? The ideal situation is cutting taxes and spending, but any rational person knows balancing a budget is better than running out of control red ink!

The concept of pay as you go mobilized our country toward rational fiscal policy. Newt got the message when Perot got 19% of the vote as an independent based on controlling debt as a major issue!

This is why the GOP trashing Ron Paul is very similar to what happen to Perot. The GOP does not get real fiscal conservatives understand cutting taxes without proper spending cuts is irresponsible and immoral to future generations.

Mike Huckabee is the most Conservative
Go down the list item by item and you will find Mike Huckabee is the most conservative Republican running for President.

Make the Bush Tax cuts perminent
Do away with the death tax
Energy security in ten years - My Persoanal Favorite
A more "Fair Tax" based on consumpsion not how much we work hard to make

The list goes on!

I am not for the Washington eletes, lobiests for the Washington eletes or the candidates supported by the Washington eletes. I'm for a man of the people.

That's why I support Mike Huckabee!

Adjectives and Turkey
Dear Governor Huckabee,

Please show your adaptability and recognize that a flat progressive tax is politically more feasibile that a Fair Tax - though I like the idea of capturing illegally gained money. With American maxed out on their credit cards and with reduced spending predicted the flat tax would eliminate many unproductive jobs at the IRS and would be a more revenue stable transition.

Your view of Turkey and our "need" to take care of Kurdistan in your Foreign Affairs article I thought was incorrect. Turkey has accepted their responsibilities in protecting their own border and are now working with the US. In that action as well as their participation in Afghanistan they are proving their viability as a candidate for EU membership. I think we need to recognize their efforts and progress as a partner.

Though I applaud your interest and pursuit as a Baptist pastor, it bothers me greatly that you accended to the pulpit in that capacity while running for President.

Welfare reform was passed by a Republican legislature. Though the poor will always be with us, I am one to try to take them from dependence to empowerment. You speak of what you had control over regarding immigration - on the same agruement, don't take credit for things you didn't institute.

You utilize alot of adjectives in your FA article. This one is far better. I think however that government reform needs to happen ASAP along with elimination of federal employees through attrition.

Smoking
Dear Governor Huckabee,

I am a smoker. I know it is bad for me and would love to quit HOWEVER under the constitution I have a right to assemble - in this case with other smokers.

As a business owner, I made the decision to not have smoking in my office. If I ran a bar or resturant, I'd probably allow smoking. It is my business and until smoking is outlawed in the US I think I should be able to determine the environment especially if I owned the building or the landlord had no restrictions for tenants.

Huckabee's infiltration
For all the new poster's that seem to be Huckabee Koolaid drinkers...get real all forgett all the sanctimonious cheerleading. The facts are Mr. Huckabee's record as governor not what he says.
IMO, it is obvious that Huckabee is running as a populist very similar to Huey Long. As such Huck will say anything, sign any pledge and is not worthy of any consideration for the POTUS!

Hogwash Extraordinaire
This is absolutely outrageous for TH to set this sham up as a rebuttal is glaringly obvious to anyone with even a modicum of political understanding. They are merely attempting to stealthily promote this so-called conservative shill. The other candidates should be clamoring for equal time to pontificate their phony claims to conservatism.

Put Ron Paul on and the comments will shatter all previous records as well as crash the system.

Jim M
Stop beating your head against the wall. People hear what they want to hear when it comes to Huckabee. No one can cite ANY examples of his "liberal" beliefs except for a comment about smoking (that the President really has no say so about) and tax increases (which only expose half the truth). They conveniently forget that fact that the tax that was implemented to improve the schools was repealed (Huckabee supported the repeal because the state didn't need the tax any longer. It was repealed after he left office, but he supported it).

Don't even get me started on the Fair Tax. Apparently people in this country prefer that the gov't confiscate their income on the front end and want no control over what they give the gov't. Most of these people are going to be the same ones dancing in the streets when this "stimulus package" returns some of our OWN MONEY to us. Hey how 'bout we start telling the gov't how much they can have instead of the other way around.

And by the way....it's not a giveaway to the rich. Investment property, new construction investment property will be taxed. And last time I check a Mercedes still cost more than a Chevy Metro. More tax on the Chevy. Get an understanding of the bill before you start spouting off about it.

Showing Respect
For responding to this Blog, Mike Huckabee has shown his respect for the common man/woman and all those bloggers. I am certain Frank Pastore already knew Huckabee's positions and I will assume he was not expecting a response. I respect Mike Huckabee for always standing his ground in the face of various criticism's most of which are imagined or simply smear tactics. Huckabee is not ashamed, nor does he try to hide or talk his way through an issue. Time and time again he states his postions clearly even when he is consitently asked the unfair religous questions during the debates (he is the only candidate to get those). Mr Huckabee has my full support and my vote. I am proud to say that my friends and family agree with Huckabee and he will also get their vote. Thank you Mike Huckabee.

Sounds reasonable to me....
Of course, the ersatz-conservatives (Romney, Hewitt, etc.) will continue to distort.

Of Note:
I for one read this stuff quite a bit between time spent plowing and moving sick cows around.

As Ron Paul fell in the votes, there was a movement of the strange Ron Paul blogers and
e-mailers, and such to this Mike Huckabee tree where the nuts fall to the ground near by just like they did from the poorly rooted Ron Paul
tree of loons.

just saying birds of a feather flock together

Wow
I find it hilarious that now Mike Huckabee has flip flopped more than Mitt Romney has been accused of.
Now that, should raise some red flags to everyone that supports him, at least, if they're really conservatives..
It's funny that the stands he takes now in no way match his past performances as Governor. In the South, I'm afraid we're not that stupid as to only look at what you're saying today, but you must have also had a track record that supports the claims you make today.
Just on one very important issue, Illegal Immigration:
As Governor, he supported the "Right" of illegal immigrants to get in-state tuition supported by Arkansas taxpayers. He offered the Mexican Government office space for $1 dollar at the taxpayers expense. He was seen by Illegal Immigrant support groups to be taking a totally different stand as he did when he was Governor...and they're MAD at him for it.

On taxes: he claims to have cut taxes 94 times, which is irrelevant as his state had a net increase of 500 million dollars of taxes... If you cut little things 94 times, but increase big things 25 times, that doesn't necessarily mean you lowered taxes, you have to look at the NET effect.

I could go on, but to say this guy is a conservative is laughable. He may well be a Republican, but he is more of a Liberal than a conservative.

Drop the smoking ban already!
I think he responded very well to most of the issues that Frank Pastore has brought up. Huckabee has more depth than has been shown in the debates and in his own ads. So, I am encouraged, however I still have concerns over some of his answers.

His strong convictions are apparent and I think they're an asset to his character. However his conviction for a smoking ban is weak as he would not work for it other than sign a bill if the Congress passed one. If it means so little to him (he does not give this the same weight as his tax policy where he would use his power as the "Communicator in Chief" to push it through legislation) I just wish he would give it up. A government ban on smoking is a liberal "nanny state" policy that will never sit well with true conservatives.

Constitutionalist Huckabee?
Government officials do more to ban the smoking of tobacoo while doing more to legalize the smoking of "dope". Neither are good for a person, but the use of "pot" increases the "dumbing down of America" - "opening the door" to government officials seeking to destroy the Constitution so as to turn us into a fascist nation.

Huckabee answers
Huckabee answers and still people won't think for themselves, they just believe whatever distorted lies they already heard.

Govenor Huckabee
You speak vaguely of some regulations to improve the environment and deal with global warming. Do you really believe global warming is man made? Do you really think there is very much man can do to control climate? As president, how would you deal with the concessions Pres Bush made at the Bali conference?

What do you want to do at the border? What will you do to get back the money for the fence? How will you deal with employers who are using illegal immigrants to avoid paying higher wages even if the surge of illegals is ruining our country and our sense of soverignty.

Do you support the Law of the Sea Treaty?

What do you feel about the UN and its desire to encroach on our soverignty?

Where do you stand on Pres Bush's theory of preemption?

Do you support English as our official language?

Would you support elimination of the Education Department and a return of control of education by the states.

Still better than any Democrat
I don't support the Huckster, but he's still better than any Democrat.

I prefer the flat tax over the Fair Tax, but I'd rather have somebody interesting in reforming the tax code than somebody interesting in using the tax code for social engineering.

JefferyP
I understand the flat tax has served the Russians well while acually bringing more taxes into the treasury.

For taking the time to clarify your positions here. I have no problem with electing him as our next POTUS. I have too many problems with the other top candidates. He may be blowing smoke but as far as I am concerned keep blowing if it gets you elected. The rest of them certainly are. I also think he debates well, which will help with the undecided public, who is not on TH everyday blathering their opinions every chance they get - like I am here.

The election is not about the 20% to 30% core voters who vote their party (all of you here are core) it's about those that make up their minds in the last 10 days before an election (unbelievable as that is to me).

Go Huck.

The Reverend, as some call him,

.....may be better than Ms She wolf Klintstone, but he is not very convincing as a conservative.

It's one thing to spout good lines and another to live them. Jimmy Swaggert had great lines, like a number of other populist religion slingers, but living the word and walking the talk is a very different thing.

He tries repeatedly to compare himself with Ronald Reagan. Reverend Mike, you're no Ronald Reagan. We knew him, and you are not the same animal. H&ll, if people want to vote for you they will, but forget my vote. There have been some great evangelists in this country, but the closest they came to politics was to lead us in prayer, not as politicians who would force their way on us.

You're not even a good evangelist, and your record as governor does not support your assertions as to what you would be like as a president. Sorry Mike, three strikes and no bases earned.

List some ask for list.

Mr Huckabee
You may fool some people, but not me!! I know you are not a conservative. I know you are not a true man of God. I have seen what you do when you are in office, and I've seen you mealy mouth around issues when you are talking relligion.

You are no different that any other politician, you will say and do most anything to be president of the United States. You sir are the worst of fakes. The bible warns us aboout people like you.

You have the nerve to speak of saving the planet as if man is destroying it!! Yet you claim to believe the word of God, ignoring the fact that he says he runs things down here, and promises that while the earth stands, all things will continue, heat and cold, summer and winter, spring, and harvest. He will be the one that destroys the earth, not puny man kind.

I will never vote for you, You are a liar, and a coward, not worthy of the office.

Fred Thompson, the only true conservative!!!

Answers for 'loco'
The answers to your questions, loco, are out there if you look.

I'm going to attempt to speak for Huckabee based on my own research. Of course he has the last say.

> You speak vaguely of some regulations to improve the environment and deal with global warming. Do you really believe global warming is man made?

Huckabee demurs on this topic. He always says that he doesn't know if the science is settled.

Huckabee's position, which I agree with, is that there are PLENTY of other reasons to push hard for energy independence. Our national security is the biggest one. We are hobbled in our international policy by our dependence on oil from countries that are hostile to us.

> What do you want to do at the border?

Huckabee's nine-point immigration enforcement and border control plan is very clear. He wants to seal it and make SURE we cut off the flow at the source. He wants to do this first, because if we don't do this then any other measures are moot.

By the way, he has not flip-flopped on this issue. You can find statements from Huckabee from as far back as 2005 saying he thinks the federal government should enforce the laws on immigration. As a governor, he wasn't in a position to do much about it, though he did have some controversial positions on education for those already here.

> How will you deal with employers who are using illegal immigrants to avoid paying higher wages...

Huckabee's plan includes employment enforcement.

List, some ask for list.
1. Gave free rent in Govt. property to the first Mexican Consulate in his state.
2. Taxes, sales tax hike in 1996, support for internet sales tax in 2001, opposed repeal of sales tax on groceries and medicine in 2002, helped and signed off on gas and cigarettes taxes in 1999 and 2003, attempted another sales tax increase in 2002, allowed a sales tax increase of 17% to become law in 2004.
3. Has refused to sign a pledge to not raise taxes if elected President.
4. DID SIGN A PLEDGE HIS RECORD SHOWS HE WILL NEVER HONOR IN PUBLIC WITH ROY BECK WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAT HE WILL WORK TO END ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, HE KNOWS HE WILL NOT DO THIS YET SIGNS JUST FOR THE VOTE IN S.C. NOW.
5. Huge massive goverment program to provide free medical in Ark. that ya, covers illegals kids.
6. Help raise the mim wage in Ark.
7. Supports legislation on "price-gouging" aka
goverment price controls just like Jummy Crater.
8. State wide Nanny State smoking ban.
9. No more soda in the schools, not that they are not over crowded with the kids of illegals and over run with illegal drugs the Mexican cartels haul into the U.S.A. via the illegal coyote trails of blood.
10. Facts do not count with this man.

Laughing happily with life, liberty...
We can laugh...happily, not to ridicule--just happily. Taking a peek into the dark corners of the world makes me love the light of liberty here in America. People are free to be evil, some get caught and imprisoned...our prisons are packed. We have rules, not always implemented fairly either. Americans are human.

Mike Huckabee is for freedom and honors our godly foundations. Ministers made up the majority of signers of our Declaration of Independence. Why? Liberty is the theme of the Bible. Bad religion and bad government confine, instead of set us free to choose...and to be responsible for our own choices.
Outcomes happen.

So many angry conservatives, and liberals...I am conservative, and not mad about it.

I am disappointed with Democrats and Republicans who try to scare people who don't 'walk the line' with blown up boogey men, confabulated to predict a horrible future. Growing past our failures is very Christian, and very American. Getting the option of a man who loves God, respects his parents, reaches out to all people, protects Americans and the disenfranchised, stands up for national security...hey, I'm for MIKE. Accusations of criminal intent make headlines, but do not a criminal make, not of Mike or any one of us...because this is America. We are innocent unless proven guilty, and then we pay our dues, are forgiven and do better under freedom. Choose life...and MIKE.

Considering the daily Romney push we were given by TH from late November till the Iowa Caucasus, having a couple columns that are in favor of any other candidate is a refreshing step in the right direction.

I for one would welcome similar Question/Answer column sets from every candidate.

As you can see above, those set in their own opinions may not be convinced otherwise.

You may not agree with Mike Huckabee, or even like his answers but at least he took the time to answer questions. How many other candidates in the running this election year can you say the same about?

Mitt Romney?

He ignores people on the campaign trail because he doesn't like their questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vklb9Wed8B4

And then he has people in his campaign publish pro-Romney columns; http://www.townhall.com/columnists/DougWilson/2007/12/31/w hy_romney_is_right_for_iowa,_america?page=full&comments=tru e

Or how about Ron Paul?

Despite his claims of not getting fair media coverage compared to his fellow candidates, he (or his campaign staff) turn down a chance to be on a nationally syndicated radio program right before the NH primary. http://boortz.com/nuze/200801/01092008.html#ronpaul

> Do you support the Law of the Sea Treaty?

Huckabee has been one of the frontrunners among the candidates in opposing LOST. He has spoken of it early and often, as a national sovereignty issue. UNFORTUNATELY, lots of people in conservative circles have spread the misinformation that he supports it. *sigh*

> What do you feel about the UN and its desire to encroach on our soverignty?

Huckabee is very pro-American sovereignty. He speaks about the need to be self-sufficient on energy, food and defense. He opposes entangling treaties like LOST. I don't know exactly what he would do about the U.N. but I'm sure he would not allow it to undermine our sovereignty any further.

> Where do you stand on Pres Bush's theory of preemption?

I think Huckabee would support it, but would be more careful to make sure we got the intelligence right before pulling the trigger.

The Huckster rides again.
Every time he speaks he changes positions, it's become so obvious the blind have begun commenting. And he doesn’t serve the church, he uses it for his own glorification.
Mitt didn’t flip/flop he changed his belief from pro abortion to prolife and apologized for spending years in ignorance. He ask forgiveness, but it is obviously the liberal right, the hypocrites and narrow minds they are, refuse to forgive and now call him names and liar. Degrading him, like Bush has been degraded all these years. That only gives the left ammunition later on. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Mitt Romney is the most honest of all the people running on either side. He put his money were his mouth is and owes nothing to special interests only to deal with them for what’s best for America. What a gutsy Conservative entrepreneur, with him up front and Thompson or Hunter as Vice President, that would be the best. Pin Romney on Constitutional judges and the world is yours.

Answers for 'loco', part 3
> Would you support elimination of the Education Department and a return of control of education by the states?

Huckabee strongly believes that issues like education are handled best at the local level. In Arkansas he has a stellar record on education, bringing it from below average nationally to 8th among states in the nation.

Huckabee is pro school choice. He doesn't necessarily believe vouchers are the best vehicle for it though, because government money often comes with government control and meddling. Instead he supports education tax credits, which achieve the same thing WITHOUT the overhead of passing the money through the bureaucracy and WITHOUT the government strings attached. He also supports home schooling. However, he emphasizes that public schools should not be abandoned but should also be pushed in every way to improve, so that no matter where kids go, they get a good education.

I doubt Huckabee would completely dismantle federal education agencies. However, he would definitely push for more control to be given to the states. One mechanism he has talked about is using "block grants" to the states. Many conservative writers have agreed with this, because block grants encourage states to use the money efficiently yet gives them freedom to innovate.

It is very discouraging to see people on our side lie about Huckabee's record and position. Fred has said Huckabee is anti school choice. This is clearly a lie.

Answer to 'dukas'
Huckabee has NOT flip-flopped.

For the most part he has been very consistent on the issues.

What has NOT been consistent is the conservative "conventional wisdom" about what he stands for.

Simply because Huckabee talks about the problems that the middle class faces, he gets branded a populist and a Democrat. No one bothered to look at his actual positions. They just assumed that because Huckabee is talking about problems that the Democrats talk about, that his solutions would also look like the Democrats'.

In fact, Huckabee's positions and solutions are, and always have been, solidly conservative. Huckabee talks about the single mother, but not to say that he wants to give her a handout. (I DARE anyone to find Huckabee saying something like that.) Instead he emphasizes how he wants to shore up family values, refocus on prevention in health, simplify and improve the tax code, and make sure that the single mother's child gets a great education.

Huckabee is NOT flip-flopping
To all you who say Huckabee has flip-flopped on the issues in this article...

Are you comparing his current positions to his former positions, or only to what the "conventional wisdom" and the echo chamber SAID about his positions?

The conventional wisdom on Huckabee is extremely distorted and false. It will take some research but if you go to objective sources, original facts and Huckabee's own words (in context) in the past, you'll find him conservative overall. If you continue to rely on the echo chamber, especially those vocal pundits who have already made up their mind and clearly have an agenda, you will continue to get misinformation.

Still not convinced
Huckabee has spoken twice at my church and I am still not convinced. To clean up the culture of corruption in Washington we don't need a former governor with 15 ethics complaints, who sued the ethics commission to try to shut it down, and who stole $70K worth of furniture from the governor's mansion on his way out the door.

Instead of campaigning Huckabee should be on his knees begging for forgiveness from the families of women murdered by criminals Huckabee released from prison.

Before anyone casts a vote they should check out a real conservative - Duncan Hunter.

Populist....canned media propaganda...
That government of the people by the people for the people should not perish from the earth....not populism, but REVOLUTIONARY AMERICANISM that is anchored in the strongest constitution on earth.

Epithets from the press produce condensed propaganda, meant to dissuade and taint.

Step up to the plate for a human candidate for Prez...one who was a gov. longer than Romney, and stayed married unlike Guiliani, tells the truth at least as often as Fred, and is nicer to be with than Paul, and who respects and honors McCain, like me and most of America.

Find a candidate and support him--or her. I'm not waiting to vote Mike Huckabee, I'm writing, working, meeting people and supporting him NOW, and on Super Tuesday, Feb 5. Bring Huckabee neighbors and family and friends to that Republican caucus. Use your feet, your car, your influence...we all have influence. Pray for the one you choose to guide America in the future, stop prying the lid off canned media presentations meant to grease the palms of media moguls. Think. Pray. Choose. Influence at least one person. Amazing, the power of one vote has changed many an election, changed precincts and wards and counties and states...and one vote in every local political unit could change America. We can...for good...BUT ONLY FOR GOOD AND TO MAKE A BETTER FUTURE FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW US, our children and their families and friends.

Compare his record with any DFL candidate...dare you. Think. Prepare. For every good deed there is a ripple effect...as with evil rock throwing. "Do good and dwell in the land, safely..."

A response to Huckster supporters.

Huckabee has not been consistent about the border nor consistent about illegal immigration.
Both the biggest issues of our times.
Huckabee has not been consistent in backing the Commander in Chief. Huckabee indicates he knows better then Bush on how to handle terrorists but has yet let us in on it.
Huckabee has not put to sleep the questions of ethics that swirl about him.
He has not discussed why he buck the Feds by his promoting sanctuaries states for illegals.
And the way he interprets leaving office with surplus doesn’t jive with the books.

The fair tax is a canard. Don’t you know how many taxes there are on a loaf of bread already? Flat tax with less write offs and paper work, sounds more realistic.

Do you think I’d believe Huckabee would nominate Constitutionalists as judges, not a snowball’s chance in hell.

Speaking of which Huckabee’s too anxious to sell us out to junk science.

Do I have a point?

CFR monopoly in GOP
What part of the globalist, anti-nationalist, treasonous agenda do you support Mike ?

Everyone that is supported or endorsed by the CFR is poison to our country.

Including you, IMO.

Very disappointed
Dear Mr. Huckabee

I wanted to be impressed. I wasn't. I believe you have a habit of trying TOO HARD to impress everyone you talk to. If you had a clear standard of federalism, you would just say "hands off" when it came to smoking.

I also don't appreciate it that you borrowed Fred Thompson's debate phrase "after the cold war we took a vacation from history." I think those points you made about the historical context of our current foreign policy are VERY insightful -- but very very late. Why have I never heard that kind of depth from you? Who wrote this letter anyway?

for the person who said we are ignoring the fact that a smoking ban would apply to "only public places:" you should know that means pretty much anywhere. You wouldn't legally be allowed to provide a place to smoke in your business -- even if you warn people that it is a smoking establishment, it is still illegal! Talk about a loss of property rights!

And no, I am not a smoker, and yes, they did this in my state, (Washington).

Council_on_Foreign_Relations

You might be surprised at the various kinds of memberships, and those who are members of the Council on Foreign Relations, including CIA, Bankers, writers, and internationalists. Alan Greenspan, Paul V., Walter Mondale, John McCain--if we don't know what's happening at the CFR we can't really counter it. An indication of a wise person is one who knows both sides of the issue, or all sides of the issues at hand, and doesn't cave--but uses influence to make something better, or at least "table" some evil tactics.

So, Ron Paul is a lost cause?
Now a new dark horse to ride barebacked.

Bet Huckaduck starts to win all the on line polls now.

BLA...BLA...BLA....
SO..YOU CAN PLAY THE GUITAR, EAT AND GIVE SERMONS! SCARY! I AM NOT VOTING FOR YOU!!!

The Fair Tax - and Huckabee
Way to go Huckabee. I love how you set the record straight without running propaganda commercials, using " political buzzwords," or pandering to liberals (or even some conservatives who hate you) by being "bipartisan" like McCain. You got my vote.

To all who are against Huckabee: You may never be convinced to vote for him in the primary, but I hope you realize the Fair Tax alone would be an incredible blow against liberals (http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeSAdams/2007/12/18/the_fair_tax_americas_last_best_hope). I'm a young guy, and scarcely any of my friends care about politics, but when I told them about the Fair Tax and how Huckabee plans to fight for it, they jumped off the Obama band wagon so many young people are on, and I know most of them are going to vote for Huckabee. Even if it "can't pass," it's refreshing to see a man fight for the best, and believe it can be achieved.

Tim Russert and Huckabee...duke it out. Might be worth listening to, before the DFL saddles up and rides to victory, with Republicans calling their own candidates names. The big picture includes the future, and Republicans include the people of these United States in choosing their future (better, much better--my research says).

I'm tired of big union bosses influencing forced contributors, I'm tired of corporate officers protecting their funding and losing the pensions of the employees.

I'm tired of tearful widows of union members saying if they don't vote union they will be found out--this belief actually exists, and happened as I talked to my neighbors.

I'm tired of fear mongering environmentalists--and Al Gore's film that fakes a few futuristic disasters, and I say so at the Sierra Club, while I support better roads and safer bike paths, and encourage people to THINK.

I'm tired of educators telling my kids they can't sing Jesus Loves ME at School...or pray. I corrected that misconceptions at my local school.

Stay awake, stay involved...be wise enough to preserve the good (salt), and daring enough to light up the darkness even close by (LIGHT UP the NIGHT).

There are NO 100% Conservatives in Race
Give it up people.
If you ALL are true 100% Conservatives why isn't Duncan Hunter or even Ron Paul leading in the Republican primaries???

Fact is only 10% of the Republican voters are true 100% Conservatives. Most Republicans are OK with the Federal Government as their Nanny.
For example, most Republicans are OK with socialized education provided by the State.

ALL we can do is pick the most electable Republican candidate who is a Great Communicator and connects with the average voter.

Sorry but that's reality.

Hillary C. is no conservative either...
The Rasmussen Poll has Clinton at 47% and Romney at 41%...

Romney is good at business, but doesn't grab our confidence for a being a man of courage...my view.

It appears only a Huckabee, who can include young people and independents; or a McCain, who is a man of heroic commitment to conservatism, country (and and willing to clear away the fog of federalism) could beat Clinton, or the newby Obama (with type B personality, and a full desk at the Senate, and pretty happy about all the stuff left undone for the state of IL, it seems).

Conservative Union: McCain 83%, Thompson 86%--good votes from these two--and both heroic, although one seems a bit 'filmy'--yet with good values.

***NOT BAD - NOT ALL GOOD
I've been back and forth on Huckabee. I liked all of his answers except for the GREENHOUSE GAS ones.

What a shame he is still deceived by the Gore kool Aid drinkers.

Huckabee/Romney in 08
That's the best ticket for Republicans in 08.

Mike is a great commnunicator who connects with the average voter and will help the Republicans win back both the House and Senate.

Mitt is a great businessman and fundraiser who can help Mike with organizational skills.

Together they are unbeatable.

Bullcrap! na, UHF4CH4, rather.
So a bunch of ya'll think that Huck's dodgeballs back at Frank Pee's Softballs (praising with faith damnation--never saw a bigger bunch of strawmen in my life!--"we understand we can't say "cut spending" in an election year"--"smarter government"--Hey PISSSQUALE!!! ever hear "Govenrment IS the problem?" think maybe THAT'S a real Conservative talkin?) are forthright yada yada yada, huh?

I don't!

I despise the man more than ever for this little dumbshow, and Rush and Co have NOTHING to do with THAT! Malkin, now, outing HuckYOU on "Border Cross Dressing" and "nativists"--yeah THAT I'm still carrying.

I emailed Hucarter and told him exactly what I thought of him and how he could rehabilitate himself for my vote. You HuckYOUs need to read it too.

mick

Opening Hucarrter's letter Part1
Correction: That should have been "praising with FAINT damnation", Freudian slip do you think?

Michelle Malkin's "Border Cross Dressers" damned you utterly in my book, Huck.
I want the border sealed and ALL ILLEGALS DEPORTED. Calling me a "Nativist" is an unforgiveable (politically) insult to my Irish Forebearers who came here LEGALLY, fleeing State Sponsored Genocide by Starvation, DIDN'T see welcome signs in Gaelic, but rather "No Irish need apply", but WE ENCULTURATED, learned American English, and worked our way up. I ask nothing but playing by the same rules. Your "Nativist" remark forfeits my support.

EDITOR'S PRIVILEDGE--I HAVER REARRANGED SOME PARAPGRAPHS FROM THE LETTER VERSION HERE:

You want to fulfill your Christian Duty to the Alien, Huck? Take a LEGAL Immigrant family into YOUR home, give them HALF of all you possess, teach them English, enculturate them. That's Christian Charity--what you are doing is State Sponsored THEFT!!! I defy you to find Biblical Support for THAT!

big mick

Opening Hucarter's letter Part2
Huckyou have criticized the War, raised Taxes, believe in UNCONSTITUTIONAL Government Intervention in Education, which is NOT Conservative ("Government IS the problem")

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT THIS ALONE, HIS WILLINGNESS TO SEEK GOVERNMENTAL SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS SHOWS HE HASN'T A CLUE WHAT REAGAN CONSERVATISM IS ABOUT.

[Huckyou] remind me of the last "Evangelical" I was stupid enough to vote for: Jimmy Carter--the worst President of the 20th Century. Worse you remind me of Slick Willie in a chastity belt. You are Hillybama Lite, Socialism by Slow Poison.

NOTE to FRANKIE Pissquale--speak for yourself, CINO--NO I DON'T want GOVERNMENT to "help the struggling down the street"--I want MY CHURCH and fellow CHRISTIANS to do that--rolling over on the GOVERNMENT doing that means you AIN'T a Conservative, but rather a SOCIALIST LITE!!!
Morons!

the big mick

opening the Hucarter proxie Part3
You want my vote? Make a public apology on Town Hall for the "Nativist" remark--grovel good enough and I just might ALLOW you to take the big mick pledge and trust you aren't lying through your teeth. Then take and post on TH the big mick pledge below.
WIN the War for survival against the Sandnazis on ALL fronts.
DEFEND against the Reconquistas (SEAL the Border, DEPORT ALL Illegals)
RESTORE Constitutionalism by appointing ONLY from a Consensus List of Top Ten Most Strict Constructionist Judges.
REDUCE the size of the FedGov 3% each year of their admin (in real absolute terms, not mere slowed growth)
SECURE my Sacred Franchise with an Iron Clad Fraud Proof voter Registration and ID system.
WIN DEFEND RESTORE REDUCE SECURE
all or nothing, no equivocations, in public and in writing...

ATTENTION HUCKYOUS!

or I vote for Hillybama because Socialism Lite is only a slower poison and thus more surely deadly. Socialism Straight under Hillybama just might provoke my moronic fellow cits to vomit it back up and bring on the long needed American Revolution Part 3. Hucarter's Socialism Light buys me NOTHING but a slower death, to hell with that, him and you.

the big mick

to huckyous who didn't read part 3 above
I will keep saying it till ya'll GET it, that your age old "lesser of two evils" argument is
UHF4CH4. It ain't got the ballz to be bull and it ain't got the subtance to be sheite.

When even the LESSER of two evils is INTOLERABLE WHAT do you think you GAIN by the argument???

The CINO Gilt Bird Cabin GOPperism has brought us to the very brink of SOCIALISM--I REFUSE to go one step farther simply because that is my only other choice to going all the way!

Ya'll have finally compromised to the point that
"not as bad" is SO bad that "worse" ain't THAT MUCH WORSE!

As I have said, Why should you convince me to take slow poison? I'd rather chug the whole thing and hope to vomit it up! I KNOW the "lesser" the Socialism Lite IS KILLING ME!
YOU COMPROMISING "no 100% pure" MORONS have done this. They have led you by the nose to within INCHES of THEIR position, and you STILL think it's "lesser".

I don't.

the big mick

a modest proposal
Any of you have the ear of Limbaugh, or Coulter, Hewitt, or Hannity, or Ingrim out there?

I think Rush is right about the importance of this election and the attempt of the CINO's to purge the GOP of real Reagan Conservatives.

I suggest it is time, and past time, not for a new party, but for a new Organization.
Something called the National Conservative Union,
or the National Conservative Caucus. Get the above mentioned heavy hitters to put a Convention together, draft a Document of Conservative Principles and Aims and a Platform.
Membership is by agreeing to, and swearing to uphold, and signing the Principles and Statement of Goals and Platform.

Make it a Union policy to vote for NO ONE who does not agree to the Principles, Goals, and Platform.

Then let the CINO Gilt Bird Cabin GOPpers get as Socialist as they want.

the big mick

Somebody says only 10% are conservatives

Why Dang it all, he's right.

So we have to start a new nation because between the 90% and MSM plus the CFR, who are we, the 10%, Nada. Big time NADA. We don't count. We are just discarded shards of what was and never will be again.

If this country continues as is, there will never again, in at least a century, probably never, be another United States of America or any thing remotely resembling one.

This is war or surrender. Which is it my lads.??. Some say we have had our day and should just be glad to have someone with an R after his name to vote for, but why.??.

Why does God have to test our resolve.??. Why does the devil tempt us to simply "shutup" and be quiet and not "question".??.

Where did these ridiculous "believers" come from with names like createinmeacleanheartJESUS..??.

Where is General George Patton to tell people like it is.??. Fight, or die a cowards death and grovel in the dirt and mud in front of your NEW masters.

Hugh for Huck
Thank you, Huck!

Your straightforward responses are refreshing.

Now, let's have a Hugh for Huck slogan going on, because, in the long run, I know that Huck is for Hugh more than Mitt is for Hewitt!

I think the problem is that people just not used to seeing honesty in a politician, and therefore, they can't believe your stances and your standards. I know where you come from and I like every bit of what I see.

once a marine
I agree with you.

Find me a good revolution--the modern day equivalent of the Sons of Liberty and the Green Mountain Boys and I'll join.

Sic Semper Tyrannis, Liberty of Death, the Old Virginians had it right.

Why some think Socialism Lite buys us anything is beyond me.

I would point out only 33% of Colonists supported Independence--thank God they were the toughest part.

Proverbs 18:15
"Intelligent people are always open to new ideas. In fact, they look for them.”

This is the man that I will cast my vote to for president. Right now, it's down to Huckabee and Romney.

And big mick: chill out and educate yourself. No governor or president or mayor or any other swinging you-know-what at the top raises taxes. Our 1% tax increase in Arkansas was court mandated by the state supreme to raise the amount of money spent in each school. It was a case where Huckabee had no choice. Look up Lakeside School district vs Arkansas. We also have an overwhelming majority of Dems in our legislature. I will never understand Arkansans ability to vote for these people and then complain about taxes.

One thing we really need to focus on is taking back the Senate and/or House. If we don't do this and get a Dem president, the gates will be wide open to completely drive our nation in the ground. The Clintons tried in the first two years of Bill's admin and the American people handed him a Republican Congress to put him in check. It's time to put real conservatives in Congress that will cut spending and ensure our nations defense.

While the other candidates talk about what they want to accomplish, Mike Huckabee says how he would do it.
For example, he wants to eliminate the current tax system which penalizes productivity (the more you earn, the more you pay), with the FairTax which rewards those who save and invest.
= = = = = = = = = = =
That statement is a bald faced lie.! ! ! !

The FairTax SCHEME is a penalty for those who have saved and invested under the income tax system. It will serve as a deterrent to future savers.

Even boortz/Simpson (Simpson as in Homer) in his first attempt at an explanation of the of the tax on page 169 of "the (worthless) book" under "Questions and Objections". The question was to the effect that the individual was living on retirement income on which he had previously paid taxes and why should he have to pay yet another round of taxes on that income as he spent it during his retirement.
The answer from boortz/Simpson was that, unfortunately they (retirees) were not getting "as good a deal" as current workers. That retired people fell in the same category as anyone who had saved money previously and was now ready to spend it. He said that there was nothing they could do to alleviate the fact that you were going to pay taxes on income that was already ravaged by taxes, but you would benefit from the (non existent) 22% reduction in prices and the pre-bate.

What is the difference?
The Huckster's answers are very smooth and well presented. He says what we want to hear and claims to stand for the same things most of us (not the libs of course) care about.
Unfortunately, when you get right down to it there's very little difference of substance between most of the Republican candidates.
Once the Republican party actually nominates someone....which might not happen until the convention....they will define a PLATFORM which will make these differences even more meaningless.
In the meantime I guess we might as well continue to debate and argue about flip flopping and differences between Huck and the others.

Huckabee/Carter/clinton/FlimFlam man
The huckster/liar says "I would eliminate the death tax"
when the current moratorium on the "death tax' expires the previous tax of 15% will be applied again.
With the FairTax SCHEME the heirs would be subject to a 23-40% consumption tax.
That's the Hucksters idea of removing a tax.

= = = = = = = = =

The NEA endorses the liar.

= = = = = = = = = =

There's no way I would vote for him. In fact I have the time now and I will actively campaign Against the Huckster

Irritate a liberal . . . Admit you have a Mother. . . . A Father . . . and you know who they are

. . . . . . . ‹(•¿•)› . . . . . .

STOP the FairTax SCHEME

The FairTax SCHEME is a Plan to eliminate the IRS and substitute a 23-34% consumption tax on all new sales. The problem is that nearly all savings except some IRAs has already been taxed when earned by the income tax system and this additional point of sale consumption tax would tax these savings a second time at the 23-34% tax rate. That would devastate the savings of nearly all retirees.

Mike Huckabee responds?
Hmmm!
I wonder which one of his lackey's actually sat and wrote this.
This was so long-winded, that my curtains were moving,

Where to start, where to start?
1. Line item veto, huh? You'd NEVER get it, primarily because your social conservatism and naivite scare too many people. You are picking and choosing what you want to highlight as far as your tax policies as a governor.

2. You WON'T do anything here that you say you will because you CAN'T. Congress must. You didn't say how you will force Congress to do these things (because they won't).

3. Again, interesting source of data. Why not cite some of the other reports that still lists Arkansas near the bottom.

4. Your answer: "My perspective on foreign policy has been shaped by my experiences as a governor." is just downright scary.

5. To take the position : "I had no control over our borders or who came into my state." you sound naive at best and untruthful at worst.

6. THIS is the biggie :"I strongly support the principle of federalism." Thank you for being forth-right about this. You don't deserve to be the President.

7. Now you sound like a scary environmentalist. Why do you feel the need to pander to everyone?

Thank you, Mr. Huckabee for answering the questions completely in such a public forum. That in, and of itself, is refreshing. Unfortunately your answers reinforce to me that you are not a top-tier candidate for President of the United States.

GyroTyro Tear on FairTax
Come on. If the broad-based sales tax required to substitute (revenue neutral) for the narrow and incomprehensible tax on productivity and success ("income")turns out to be 43%, that is precisely the news that US citizens need to know. We need to have the too-high price of our government plain in front of us on every retail sales slip, instead of allowing the embedded taxes and compliance costs remain hidden in the base price.

And those retirees you worry about paying the FairTax on new retail purchases, under the current system, they will pay the embedded costs of income taxes and tax compliance in everything they buy till the day they die, just as you do now.

Jagman

No, you were not kidding, were you.??.

Yes, you were P.O.'d weren't you.??. Hominy grits and all, right.??.

Sure we get some real dopes here, but frustration is allowed provided the personal attacks are minimal.

Capich.??. Entendido.??. Agreed.??. Whew....

Correct information beats confusion
I appreciate having Mike Huckabee state his own positions because too many people out there--liberal and conservative alike--are giving us a misinformed or distorted impression of where Huckabee stands. Besides that, the media in general focus on the frontrunners and shun politicians with conservative moral values.

the big gimmick
You said alot.
It didn't make much sense.

The best part: you said you
voted for Jimmy Carter.

He didn't make much sense either.

No disrepect, just my opinion.

The fairest tax
1. The fairest tax is the one people want to pay: have a national lottery
2. The second fairest tax is applied to those who use the service: imphasize user fees
3. The third fairest tax is charged from its source and has as few distortions as possible:

HAVE A FLAT(TER) INCOME TAX BASED ON ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME (AGI), WITH NO (NO!) DEDUCTIONS.
a. everyone who makes any money pays. Broaden the tax base.
b. pay in arrears. Individuals pay out of their own pockets, getting companies out of the tax collection business and financing government before receipts come in using Tax Anticipation Notes.
c. The following rates on AGI would raise almost as much as the current leviathan:

2% of the first 20,000
10% of the next 30,000
15% of the next 150,000
25% thereafter

Fairest Taxes
Hello, Tim.

1. Lottery. The common criticism of a lottery-based anything is that it depends upon and promotes a vice, namely, greed. I think it does.

2. User fees. I have some affinity for these, but there are many "truly unfortunate" with situations such as health problems, etc., that depend upon high consumption of health care, or whatever, to survive. Here come the exemptions.

3. Taxes are inherently penalties. Income for most of us comes through enterprise, initiative, risk-taking, and productivity favored by the free market. Why, if we can avoid it, would we penalize such excellent human characteristics?

We would all do well to reread Atlas Shrugged and realize that penalties and impediments lead to people exhibiting less of the thing penalized. We need to add into our calculations the economic impact of people who are on strike, not totally by removing to Galt's Gulch, but at least partially by not operating our own businesses or being as industrious as we might were it not for bad past experiences with the IRS.

Besides, income taxes require that I reveal to Big Brother what my income is. I don't think it is any of his business.

Tim
The FairTax would have drug dealers and illegal aliens paying into the tax system. That's broadening the tax base. Corporations could quit hiding their money offshore. The U.S. would become the best tax haven for foreign investors. Every plan has it's flaws, but no one has convinced me yet that there is a better plan.

A Few Words
Dear Governor Huckabee:

Thank you for taking the time out of your incredibly busy schedule (and on the verge of the important South Carolina caucuses) to directly address the denizens of this blogsite. By that gesture alone, you have exceeded your opponents for the nomination! Town Hall has emerged as a leading clearing house for conservative thought on the grassroots level and your input is welcome.

As you can see from the variety of responses, there is no "lockstep" of thought, here! The more vicious attacks, though, tend to come from "libtrolls" who, realizing the threat this site portends to their perverse designs on America, seek to disrupt the issues and all civil discourse with their usual tirades and allegations. "Divide and conquer" is one of their favorite strategems and you can see it at work here. They seek to make every out-of-context statement made in public life- by yourself or your fellow candidates- into false issues that reflect adversely on your characters. They do so with the knowledge that character means a great deal to conservatives, whereas it means nothing to themselves.

For the sake of our cause and the Grand Old Party that still forwards that cause, I would plead with my fellow staunch Americans to eschew combativeness among our ranks. That only plays into our enemies' hands. I also look to you and your collegues to reflect this spirit as you compete for the nomination. You are all good men in many ways. Any one of you can provide this country with the leadership it needs at this critic time... and must if America is to remain the America our fathers strove to create.

Addendum
BTW:

It was at the WND debate that you won my personal support. But I have also heard Governor Romney speak at the Harris County, Texas GOP meeting last November and I admire him also. While a staunch social conservative, I recognize the leadership qualities of Mayor Guiliani and respect the bulldog tenacity of purpose I see in Senator Thompson and Congressman Hunter.

All of you can serve this nation well. All of you have previously. One (or two!) of you MUST do so in the highest office. The fate of our nation as a decent, free and prosperous one depends on it. God bless you, your family, your staffers and adherents and, yes, those of your fellow candidates as well. And, when the choice is made, may you all unite in Christian brotherhood to lead us to that victory that will reclaim and preserve the qualities of America's inherent greatness.

Statement from Lois Davidson, Mother of Killer's Victim, in Response to Governor Huckabee

Lois Davidson, whose daughter Carole Sue Shields was raped and killed in 2000 by a criminal whose release from prison was championed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, issued the following statement today in response to Huckabee's contention in a television interview that her story was being "exploited" for political purposes:

# "Last night, Mike Huckabee accused me of being exploited and used for political purposes. I assure you, Mr. Huckabee, I am not being exploited. I am fully aware of the actions I have taken in attempting to inform the public of your role in my daughter's rape and murder. I have spent over 7 years thinking about this.
# "I am not a dupe. But you, Governor Huckabee, were duped time and again by convicted felons who once released from prison by you began hurting people again.
# "Mr. Huckabee, I am not a victim. However, my daughter was a victim. She was raped and murdered by a serial rapist that you wanted freed from prison. Please be honest about the role you played in releasing my daughter's killer."

Huckabee's dismissal of Davis came during an interview on the Hannity and Colmes television program following a Republican debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Davidson's story is the subject of an ad aired in South Carolina this week focusing on Huckabee's dismal record on the rights of crime victims. The ad was developed and paid for by Victims Voice, an Arkansas-based victims advocacy group and can be viewed on the Victims Voice Web site at http://www.victimsvoice527.com.

Grow some balls Mike and admit your error in judgment and apologize to this family.

Huck does not equal Carter
He is more like Clintons. Arrogant destruction of state computer hard drives upon leaving office is obstruction of justice, plain and simple. He learned this from Bill and Hillary I presume.
The non partisan non profit Judicial watch has both Mike and Hillary sharing top 10 billing as most corrupt politicians of 2007.

http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list- washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007

If you did nothing wrong, Huckster, they why destroy the evidence that "supported" you and why sue the ethics comission, TWICE.
Carter was inept, but he was no crook!!!

Rayfinn
Although you don't know me, I'm sorry for your loss. Allow me to say as a conservative, there is no WAY ever that the Huckster will become President. With any luck, he will slowly disintegrate into the background as people realize he is no conservative worthy of the Republican nomination. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as I will take every opportunity to publicly blast the Huckster while he still thinks he has a chance to get the nomination.

Ode to Huck
There once was a gomer named Huck,
Who dredged up a goober named Chuck.
Like birds of a feather,
They campaigned together,
And, no-body gave a rat-F**k!

Mike Huckabee is the best candidate
He has the experience, the track record, the approval rating among his constituents, (unlike some other Governor who's also a candidate) and he hasn't flip-flopped his way into office.

Mike Huckabee is the real deal.
