Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

I’ve been touring the country with my friends and fellow radio hosts (and Townhall contributors) Michael Medved, Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager and Bill Bennett. The subject of the tour is, “Obama: The First 100 Days”, a townhall-style forum where three of us on a given night analyze, debate, and critique the first few months of this remarkable time in our nation’s story.

For a guy who makes a living sitting in an empty glass studio talking into a microphone and staring at a bunch of blinking telephone lights, this is simply heaven.

Getting to shake hands, pose for pictures, sign books, and interact with people who listen to our radio shows is a blast. Sure, there’s the ego boost of nice people saying nice things about our work. But more importantly, we are learning what truly matters to Americans in cities as diverse as Dallas and San Antonio, Los Angeles and Cleveland (and nine other cites as well -- we’re all grateful for our new frequent flier miles these days).

The sheer genius of talk radio and Townhall.com is that the environment is so interactive. Listener and reader input is every bit as important as anything any of us can say. We’d be like crazy people chattering in the middle of that empty field that Joe Biden thinks we should stand in to be safe from swine flu if it weren’t for the calls, the letters, the blogs, and the reaction from our audience.

I’ll bet Michael, Hugh, Dennis and Bill are soaking up the energy of our “Obama 100 Days” audiences every bit as much as I am.

For one thing, there are the crowds. Every city we’ve visited has exceeded the expectations, in terms of the number of people who are coming out to participate. Every single stop has featured ballrooms and theatres and auditoriums packed with enthusiastic Americans who are deeply concerned about the direction of our country under the Obama Administration.

And there are the young people. Last night in Phoenix, Hugh asked for everyone under the age of 25 to stand. About 50 kids sprang to their feet. Having a talk radio-loving crowd of over a thousand feature that many young people was inspirational.

And of course, there is the passion. People are simply hungry for answers, an antidote to the massive spending and liberal social agenda of the new president.

As we keep saying, the answer lies at the ballot box. We Republicans are in the mess we’re in because the other side convinced enough people to vote for Democrats. I’d like to think we’re smack dab in the middle of a period of buyer’s remorse, something that will get rectified with each pending election.

But I also make sure I’m listening carefully to what people are saying about the specific things that trouble them. And after getting an earful this week over the British ban of an American conservative radio host, Michael Savage, I made it a point to mention the outrageous decision to bar him from Britain at our most recent stop.

Evidently, the Brits have compiled a list of 22 people they deem so shameful in their speech or actions that they have barred them from setting foot in their country. Some British official I’ve never heard of made the announcement the other day, saying that Britain wants to send a message to the world that it is a privilege to come pay a visit there, and some people are simply not welcome.

Being a radio host, I naturally am more concerned about their decision to ban another broadcaster rather than the Islamic extremists or other loonies on the list (including the vicious Rev. Fred Phelps, the guy whose family protests outside the funerals of slain military personnel and other victims).

Michael Savage turns on a microphone and broadcasts his opinions to faithful followers who enjoy listening to his views on politics, social issues, and anything else that this colorful, provocative, entertaining guy comes up with. It doesn’t matter which of his views I agree or disagree with. He’s a proven commodity that is blessed to have a platform that enables him to be a First Amendment practitioner on the radio airwaves.

For a government entity of any country to decide that his views disqualify him from even visiting the place is appalling. This reprehensible act reminds us that we do, indeed, live in the greatest country in the world, a place where opinions and viewpoints are not only tolerated, but encouraged.

Keith Olbermann is proof of that.

I guess the quaint tradition of Londoners standing on soap boxes and screeching their opinions in Hyde Park, something I’ve personally witnessed, doesn’t apply to American radio hosts who do the same thing.

And incidentally, don’t shed any tears for Savage. I’m sure he has received the news with great glee and will manage to turn this into a windfall for his radio show. I envision seeing him on the evening news trying to get off a plane at Heathrow, cameras and microphones capturing every moment.

It’s what we call the proverbial win-win.

But I’ve been thinking a lot about that uptight British official’s assertion that visiting her country is a privilege.

Ultimately, isn’t she right?

Where in our Constitution does it state that we are compelled to let anyone who wants to enter the country in?

While we cherish the message of welcoming huddled masses yearning to be free, we sure don’t have to throw out the welcome mat for illegals who insist upon breaking the law in order to live here.

Someone told me that Michael Savage was complaining that very few broadcasters are supporting him over this insane British ban. Well, I am more than happy to defend his right to air his views and expect to be able to visit any country on the planet he chooses to.

But I also think we should apply Britain’s “keep out” message to the millions of illegals who are wreaking havoc in the United States. Michael hasn’t broken any laws. He’s no criminal. But the people who continue to sneak across our border sure are.

Perhaps we should consider making the Brit who banned Michael our new Homeland Security chief.

She’s got to be an improvement over our current one.

Great article.
I've read a couple others on the Savage ban and think you have a real new "twist" on the issue, Mr. Gallagher.

Strike up the bans?
Interesting, the Al Frankens, the Howard Sterns, etc., neither Rev. Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, or --you get the drift -- are banned. I guess that means that Savage has perhaps been a little more truthful and direct on issues than what they can appreciate.

I've never heard the program, but I'm thankful he is not yet banned in the US. What will S. 909 mean to more than a few conservative talk radio hosts?

Twisted Rights
We need to remember that Britain has no Bill of Rights, so this action re: Savage does not surprise. What we need to remember is to continue to lobby for equal application of our Bill of Rights for all, Left,Right and Middle-Roaders. The Obamessiah is now looking for ways to cast all conservative media as devils ower than AIG, so as to enable his shreding of the First Amendment.

Remember the magic act that we saw in elementry school? Watch were the One does not want you watch, ignore the gossip column scandals put there to distract. watch the other habd, and be ready to fight to keep our Bill of Rights intact.

The Second defends the rest

Kudos to You Gallagher!
For supporting Savage and free speech for all! The UK Ban is absolutely outrageous.

Another point
We have to remember that the UK is a foreign country. While I always enjoyed visiting there and working with Brits, I keep in mind that they have a different mindset toward many issues (Official Secrets Act). Not to mention that the UK is innnudated with Muslims and has preemtively surrendered to dhimmitude.

One of the reasons I was strongly opposed to the creation of the so-called Department of Homeland Security was the potential that it could be used for the suppression of Rights. We are now seeing the first stirrings of that suppression with the warning about dangers of terrorism from those on the right in political matters. Did the Bush administration issue any such warnings against left-wingers?

We have arrived at a point in our history in which nearly all the apparatus for a truly authoritarian government is in place. It only requires the will of an authoritarian president to impose it. Read the papers.

Where Y'at, Wallbanger, Golfer
and Leprechaun?????They say NOTHING about Savage. He's never mentioned. Neither does Fox. Is Savage Conservatism's b_stard child that must no one wants to acknowledge him? I go out of my way to hear Savage every day. Savage is not afraid to say what the rest of us are thinking. It's either jealousy that prompts the others to ignore his existence or they are yoo afraid to be as far right as he is. They are still hoping they can get those illegal votes away from the democrats one day. What? Don't they realize the only way that can be done is to give them what they're getting through all those liberal policies?

Free Speech - but there are limitations.
Our government does allow us to have free speech, but we are obligated to use it wisely. that means we cannot utter words that others find offensive, and we cannot criticize the government for doing what they know is best for us.

In contrast to what free speech proponents claim, the 1st amendment was never meant to allow critical words to be uttered so long as such speech interferes with the promotion of tranquility within our collective. Just as one is not allowed to yell "fire" in a crowded theater because it upsets the patrons, one is not allowed to identify possible shortcomings in a political administration that is putting forth a progressive agenda. By allowing criticisms that hinder socialized medicine, affirmative action, public schools, and so forth, the proponents of free speech harm the common masses in the same way as yelling Fire does the movie goers.

It is time to end the charade of this so-called free speech movement. people are indeed free to say what they want, just so long as their words promote collectivism and progressive policy. Anything else should be deemed damaging and hateful. fortunately,we have already determined such speech to be illegal, albeit we have been too slow and too lenient when it comes to punishing those who abuse the rights given to us by the government. That must change. Change we can believe in.

Thank you Loyal Democrat
Thanks for making it all so clear, now I can stop all this nonsense about wanting to speak my mind.

(NOTE TO TH NEWCOMERS--L.D. is a satirist, and a very good one. The post should be taken as such).

Right on Loyal Democrat
As Loyal Democrat stated "Free Speech - but there are limitations." Free speech is a one edged sword. It can only be truly free if it allows an administration to engage it's ideas for our common good. Speaking against administration policy, is undercutting the brilliance and wisdom that is intended to help us all. Criticism of the Obama Administration therefore, should be forbidden. It is truly hateful to sabotage this administrations policies and intentions. Therefor all criticism should be considered hate speech. Many wise citizens have already come to this realization and have taken upon themselves the near impossible task of weeding out those ruthlessly unholy people guilty of hate speech! For leading the charge they deserve our deepest appreciation and unending gratitude. Fortunately, our great President will only appoint judges who will recognize the current stifling and narrow interpretation of the Constitution regarding speech and other over valued "presumed rights". Change, yes we can!

Loyal Democrat
You forgot to write at the end "Just Kidding" because it is early and maybe I am still sleepy.Maybe there's a word I missed or something, but you can't be serious unless you're some 20 something year old product of our great public education system. PLEASE tell me you're kidding. YOU need to listen to Michael Savage if you think free speech is just to agree.

Sorry Loyal Democrat
I just read Bulldog's comment. Thank goodness you were just kidding. Your comment had really depressed me.

think about it
Free speech is a Constitutional Amendment in America. And as many of you have pointed out during the torture debate, Constitutional Amendments only apply to American citizens. So my question to you is as follows: why should we hold Britain to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. British free speech can exist only for Brits just as American Constitutional Rights can exist for only Americans. Why should they have to put up with a hateful American spewing anti-Muslim nonsense when the American isn't even paying British taxes... especially considering that Britain has a substantial tax-paying Muslim population? If you here on this site think it was okay for Bush to suspend the 4th, 6th, and 8th Constitutional Amendments from the prisoners at Guantanamo, you have ABSOLUTELY no right to complain about this... but then again, if you can't complain, there really isn't much else you can do.

vizier: Not to worry. We've ALL been

caught at least once... :-)

Loyal Democrat is good!

Jeramy #14
I agree with you in part. Personally I couldnt give a DAMN what Britan does because thier own people would prob just as soon drown Brown in the Englich Channel. Michael savage is brilliant, plain and simple. He's highly educated and gets right to points and makes a lot of sense so I see why liberals fear him. He also has a monsterous following of 10s of millions so this is just fuel for his engines.

Bush housed enemy combatants at Gitmo and they have been MORE than fairly treated. I know someone whose been there and seen it first hand. Several who have been released have begun fighting aginst us AGAIN havent they??

In All Actuality...
Americans are not as free in our speech as we like to believe. I recently read articles about our "American" Judges prosecuting individuals for stating that they chose not to do business with certain persons. That's not freedom of speech. There was also a country music musician that publicly stated her political views and was criticized endlessly by piers. Is that really freedom of speech... The American government is being slow and sneaky about whittling away our rights.

jeremy
If you think the terrerists should have any rights you are living in a dream world.

They kill you and yours, cut off their heads and drag the body parts to the nearest briidge and hang them up for all to see.

The strap explosives to themselves, woman and children and kill as many innocent people that they can.

All in the name of Allah, so they claim.

All terrietsts should be shot as there cause is not in the best interests of yours and mines best interest.

They are misguided vicious animal that we should take very seriously.

Banned by Britain
May I as a Brit currently visiting your country and hoping very soon to wed one of your lovely ladies and with three American Grandchildren and an American son-in-law both apologise on behalf of my countrymen and give a little perspective.

The Home Secretary (US equivalent Sec. of Homeland Security) is a member of a discredited inept, incompetent and sleaze ridden Government fighting for it's life. She is also personally implicated in false expenses claims, with a husband who has claimed for porn movies on her expenses. Add to that her incompetence and the Stalinist policies with regard to surveillance and ID cards which she is pursuing she too is fighting to survive within this failed Government. These bans are gesture politics and a vain attempt to convince the British electorate that she is a) doing something and b) is an effective Minister.

The actuallity is that she is a disgrace and unfit to hold one of the great offices of State in our once great country. We will rid ourselves of this benighted Government at the next election and it will be a massacre believe me.

But a word of caution to my friends in the US. I listened carefully to the rhetoric during last years Presidential election, and have watched subsequent events with interest. You now have an Administration which espouses the same failed policies which have brought us to our knees. They are policies which four Labour Governments have espoused during my life time and each and every time have failed leaving the country bankrupt. They failed in Soviet Russia, they failed in the UK and they will fail here. Your great advantage is the mid-term elections. Get rid of Pelosi, Reid, Dodds, Frank and their allies and you may yet dodge the bullet.

The Brits don't mess around
I know there are weenies here, crybabies like Gallagher, going all softy liberal with these creeps.

Meanwhile, the Brits already jailed one Islamist fanatic simply for public speech that could incite others to endanger citizens.

Same for a fanatic like Savage.

The Brits have free speech with some limits, just like America, and they comprehend that Savage's brainless rants increase the prospects for violence against various groups.

His supporting listeners, of course, adore those kinds of violence.

The Brits don't. They don't mess around with the scum. It's part of why, per resources, they're better at anti-terrorism than we are.

Thank You Frank
Sounds like it's time for our countries to unite once again and force a complete government overhaul. For as smart as these people are supposed to be... what happened. =/

Savage...
It seems Savage is most concerned that the British Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith lumped him in with Russian skinheads, murderers, Muslim terrorists and other unsavory critters. Personally, I hope he sues her socks off. There are lots of British attorneys salivating over representing Savage on this one.

Charles #3
"The Brits have free speech with some limits, just like America, and they comprehend that Savage's brainless rants increase the prospects for violence against various groups."

What restrictions on free speech are Constitutional in the U.S.? How many episodes of violence have been caused by the 'brainless rants' of Savage?

It seems to me that if someone were to be banned from the U.K. for 'brainless rants' that no Hollywood type would ever set foot on British soil.

This whole thing is more 'holier-than-thou' far-Left garbage.

Katrina
Don't confuse freedom of speech with freedom of action. Those people were likely to have been charged with discrimination if they chose not to do business with a group that is protected by the laws that have been put in the books by "Civil Liberties" groups. There is a difference between action and speech.
The country star that spoke out was not punished by the government, but by her peers as you indicated. If she had been punished by the government, then you would have a point. In that case she was punished by the people that used their money to support her. That is free will...
Please give an example where someone was punished for speaking by the government.
I have to admit that there will be many examples of this in the near future as the congress has just passed hate crimes legislation that will promote what you are trying to claim already exists.

My point...
Is that the particular person that chose not to do business with the other never gave a reason why... she just said no. Our government states that businesses can choose whom they wish to do business with and do not have to give a reason. But because she said no, a representative of our government allowed her to be prosecuted. She went to the highest court.

As far as I know, the president, congress, ect. have not specifically stepped in and banned someone. But, as you stated, it's coming. The higher government seats are clearly sitting back letting things brew before they step in so they know exactly what kind of support system they have from the public.

Are we really that much different?
The Brits have banned Savage from their country because they don't like the things he says. Fair enough, it is their right to do so since it is their country. However, we have a government that is even now looking into ways to ban particular speech that they don't like from the airwaves and I refer, of course, to talk radio and the Censorship Doctrine.

Conservative talk radio has become a power in this country, a power that is outside the liberal's power to control. Liberal talk radio has been an abject failure, and the liberals can't stand that. So, rather than look at their programming and try to put on programs that people actually want to listen to they, instead, try to silence conservative talk radio. It may not be called the Fairness Doctrine, but it is coming. They will cloak it in the camouflage of "localism" or any other method they can find to get Rush, Sean, Glenn, Laura and all the other conservative hosts off the air. They will then go after Fox News and the Internet, Fox because it is truly "fair and balanced" by giving both sides of the story (which the liberals don't want, regardless of their protestations to the contrary), and the Internet because that is another venue in which conservatives do well. Once those are out of the way the only sources we will have for "news" will be the liberal mainstream media which is totally in bed with the liberals and will tell us only what they want us to hear. Watch for it, it is coming.

The Brits can ban me too!
Put me as #23 on the list of people not allowed to enter their country. I could care less. But, just to let you people know, my family left The United Kingdom and arrived in the United States of America in 1818. My family has been here 191 years! I find it bizarre and threatening that while we have terrorist training camps here in the United States, and we have violent criminals running loose in the streets, and we have illegal immigrants who are creating street gangs, selling drugs, and killing people...that our police are pulling over citizens who have "DON'T TREAD ON ME" bumper stickers on their cars?! Is this for real?! If this is the way it's gonna be, then who the hell needs the police? Instead of hunting down citizens with "DON'T TREAD ON ME" bumper stickers, shouldn't they be hunting down citizens(and non-citizens) with "OBAMA" bumper stickers on their cars?!

It's Obama and his following
that is involved with fraud, theft, threats and other criminal activity on a daily basis. But, by God, we can't have people driving around with "DONT TREAD ON ME" bumper stickers on their cars! Christ!

The way it is
I may not agree with your opion, but as a US citizen I will fight for your right to speak your mind. The Feds have either never heard this, or remember this. But it's time, we take our Freedom of speech and freedom to Bear arms and remind those in power at what cost it will take to stop us from enjoying the freedoms our forefathers shed blood for.

Till Next Time...
I'm sure the Feds have heard it and remember it. If we enjoy our originally given freedoms, their corrupted, comfy seats cease to exist... Gotta get to work now... Ya'll have a great day and Thanks for the enlightenment

Till Next Time...
The Feds have heard and do remember. However, if we gain our originally fought for freedoms back, their corrupted, comfy seats on a pedestal cease to exist. Gotta get to work now. Ya'll have a great day and Thanks for the enlightenment.

FREE SPEECH
Free Speech has been a protected Right. But, what Law was enacted to protect the blatant lying by politicians and government employees? When did their 'lying' become acceptable, without consequence or punishment?
Isn't 'cheating' a lie? Isn't lying 'cheating'?
Why is it 'acceptable' for gueithner to be a tax 'cheat' when We the People ARE punished if We 'cheat' on our taxes?
Why is it 'acceptable' for pelosi to lie about not knowing about enhanced interrogation techniques when We the People are punished if We lie to our employers?
LYING is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It is TIME, years overdo, for We the People to DEMAND consequences and/or punishment for the LIES
being told by those running and ruining our Nation.

Dictatorship in England
Great Britain is no longer a free country but is under a dictatorship

This is the first time in my

memory and in my knowledge of U.S. history that a sitting president has threatened his political opponents for opposing him.

obama is an almost uniques speciman to be elected president.

He openly threatens citizens, public and private.

He spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep his past hidden from the American people.

He has put future generations in debt that will reduce their standard of living.

He is trying to rob productive citizens to reward his followers.

Yes, he is a nearly unique U.S. president.

Is this like "sodomy in Georgia"?
In Georgia the sodomy laws are so weirdly written written that basically ANYTHING but "once a week missionary under the covers with the lights off and drapes drawn" is classed as "sodomy". They have a saying there: "If you aren't committing "sodomy" in Georgia you aren't having any fun."

The wet blankets of the libtard movement would have "free" speech end up the same way.

Soli Deo Gloria!!

The Point
Gallagher's point, to me, was that each country is free to set their own immigration/visitation rules. Michael Savage and Oprah can say what they please in the US because they are citizens and are under the protection of the Constitution. Illegals are entitled to no such protection. Our immigration policy does not work and needs to be reformed. All the side comments about Obama divert attention from the real issues that confront us. Let's put our energy into constructive immigration reform and border protection.

I knew it was coming
Hey Mike! What are you going to do when its YOUR bull who's gored?

Interesting editorial choice
Has anyone noticed any news articles here at TownHall, dealing with the UK Home Secretary's list of banned persons? I haven't seen a single news article here (though I haven't been through the blogs, and I'm not counting essays/editorials). Nothing at Fox, either, and nothing from the mainstream conservative talk show hosts (Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly).

Doesn't that story provide a good opportunity to discuss freedom of speech, political correctness, and our good fortune to have been born Americans, whose founders wisely foresaw the necessity of documenting our rights? Try to imagine where we'd be, right now, without the Constitution. Think where we are, despite having the Constitution, and extrapolate.

----------Janet Napolitano Hates Me------------

Support Savage and free speech!
Great to hear your support Mr. Gallagher. I listen to you almost every morning. The same should go for all other talk radio hosts - Support Michael Savage and stand with him on this battle for free speech. You don't have to like him or his abrasive style, it's still protected FREE SPEECH! Will all of talk radio put their money where their mouth is, and bind together against the 'Fairness Doctrine' when it comes back? I certainly hope so.

Have hopem Frank!
Maybe this flap will force your Home Sec from office, when the government has to settle to avoid damages for slander, and as more light is shed on her and her husband's creative accounting.

"All terrietsts should be shot as there cause is not in the best interests of yours and mines best interest."

The head of U.S. Homeland Security has decided that "right wing extremists" are a terrorist threat -- still feel the same way? (Since illiteracy may be a symptom of terrorist inclinations, that makes you a double threat).

Great Britain
is being hijacked by Islamic immigrants, and those immigrants do not tolerate insult to Islam. They will riot and wreak havoc in Britain as they did burning Paris a few years back.

This is why Savage is banned.

getting banned in UK
is like money in the bank for the nasty savage.

cynical
"Dictatorship in England
Great Britain is no longer a free country but is under a dictatorship"

really? Who is the dictator? What is his or her name? When is the last time you visited England?

ONLY FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS
CIVIL SERVANTS CONTINUE TO TRY TO USE THE PHRASE BAD ATTITUDE IN THEIR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY UNDER THE COLOR OF LAW. IT IS NOT JUST A DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT PROBLEM, THE BLACK STATE EMPLOYEES UNION ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS HAVE SEVERAL PAST PRESIDENTS SERVING TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS ALL AGAINST OTHER AFRICAN AMERICANS THAT ALL INVOLVED DEFRAUDING THE UNITED STATES. SO BEFORE WE START POINTING FINGERS AT ANYONE WE NEED TO CHECK ALL CIVIL SERVANTS, NOT JUST PEACE OFFICERS THAT HAVE THEIR ACTIONS RECORDED. BY THE WAY MOST OF THE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY ALSO OCCURRED IN THE DALLAS AREA. A FEDRAL JUDGE REFERS TO THE UNION AS TEXAS BLACK MAFIA, AND THEIR WAS NO OUTCALL BY ACLU, NAACP, URBAN LEAGUE OR NO OTHER ORGANIZATION BECAUSE THEY WERE TO BUSY DUCKING FOR COVER MAKING SURE THEY WOULD NOT BE AUDITED. WHY IS THE DEFENSE FUNDS OF SO CALLED CIVIL RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS NOT SUBJECT TO FEDERAL AUDITS ALL OTHER LEGAL FIRMS ARE? DO NOT THOSE THEY REPRESENT DESRVE THE SAME PROTECTION AS ALL OTHER CITIZENS? DR. SAVAGE GETTING BANNED IN ENGLAND WHO CARES, IT ONE PLACE HE CAN NOT GO ON VACATION.

the EU
Teeh dictatorship is the European Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. That fraud that is impossing thought crimes onto the entire populace! As it is slowly happening here. Hate criems is thougth crimes.

You cannot say what is politcally incorrect (poltical hygiene is foremost in a socialist system!) in a socialist system.

If you dont see the creeping tyranny you need new glasses

As always... Thanks, Mike..

Thanks for taking on this very relevant issue.. the deliberate Defamation of Michael Savage,PhD, ranked No.3 talk show host.

The plot thickens, I believe this unwarrented assault on an outspoken talk show host is a preliminary to the soon coming indirect attack on the last bastion of American's free speech over the public airways.. They just won't call it a "fairness doctrine".

It is true that Dr Savage is the most politically critical.. his radio program is independently owned and he carries water for No One.. Hence, he is probably the most effective at getting under the skin of our totalitarians.

Apparently, UK Jacqui Smith is the US equivilant of our illustrios Janet "Napoleon". I suspect that Smith had never heard of Michael Savage before some devious Spies/US Operatives put a bug in her ear, across the pond. One tip-off is, who all is Not on Jaquislist, and interestingly, Savage said he had no plans to go the UK, anyway.

Btw.. Mike, your close Associates, also valuable Talkers, Hugh & Bill, have expressed their smug condescending attitudes towards Dr Savage for some time. You & Laura Ingraham are the exceptions, afaik, for having the guts to defend Savage. I find it Disgraceful how the majority of self-serving talk show hosts give their fellow Talker the Snub when he is under libtard attack for upholding what is right.
"Hang together, or hang separately"..

At any rate, the USA is in big trouble.

Mike Savage and Freedom of Speech
It is obvious to me that the actions by the UK are most likely a nod to a request by R. Emanuel and the Obama administration; since it's going to be an uphill climb for the Administration to resurrect the Fairness Doctrine, the best way for a "globally minded" president to achieve any such gagging is to use the "back door."

Incidentally, my new book, "An Elephant in The Living Room - Is It Too Late To 'Kill All The Lawyers'?" discusses the mastication of the First Amendment, among a host of other topics vital to the discussion of Townhall.com

Boy...liberal "progressives" are so-o-o-o tolerant...

...as long as you see things their way.

A very interesting article...
and very timely.

Marcus Epstein in today’s article, Immigration: Stretching Statistics, just quoted the president of La Raza, Janet Mugaria, who said “We have to draw the line on freedom of speech, when freedom of speech becomes hate speech.”

This is the main reason why uncontrolled immigration will ruin America. When people come here from socialist countries, they bring socialist ideas with them. They do not understand nor appreciate what freedom is all about. They want the economic advantages of freedom, but they want the government controls and government entitlements that kill those very advantages.

Our founders never categorized speech. There is no such thing as “hate speech”. There is only free speech. Anything else is censorship. If no one was ever offended by another’s speech, freedom of speech would not be necessary. We could just have one big love-fest where we would all talk about how great everyone else was. That way everybody would be happy and all opinions would be sterilized.

What the statists want to censor is political opinion, and political opinion is exactly why free speech is a part of our Constitution. We don’t have free speech so that we can have pornography. We have it so that when anyone disagrees with what is going on in this country, they have the right to vocalize that disagreement. Simply because it offends someone does not make it hateful.

This is what is wrong with you ditto heads. You worship a bunch of radio cowards whose great talent is running thier mouth on the radio. You know, like your hero Rush. The guy who used his immigrant maid to duy drugs illeagaly. Then you look at the real American heroes that put thier lives on the line, the way Colin Powell, john McCain and John Kerry did,and you trash them beacause Rush commands you to.Only a fool would worship a man who earns his living Trashing Real American heroes Three hours a day while bragging about how "GOD" loaned Him some talent. It's not a talent to go on the radio and Attack the people you don't like. That is not the kind of thing you blame on GOD.Rush, and Savage and Hannity and Levine Are just Rich radio bigots whose only job is to pit you and I against one another.Don't be a fool.Respect all vietnam veterans. Not just the ones Rush tells you to.I'm a Veteran.I'm also a Democrat. To me,John mcCain is a hero.Colin powell is a hero.To me all soldiers are Brothers in arms. I don't divide them by the ones Rush likes or dislikes.Rush and Savage are not soldiers, they're just runnig mouths.

Hey ed
Obama is too stupid to have made it in talk radio -- Jo

=====================================

I'll take that a step further -- ANY liberal is too stupid to make it on talk radio.

Air America was a disaster, no one wants to listen to unintelligible hysterical insults all day long.

One glance at CNN or MSNBC and you know why these people don't do talk radio.

Loyal Democrat
Unfortunately, some people are not swift enough to understand your modest proposals.

Perhaps you should change your party affiliation to "crackpot libertarian" or
"unreconstructed scalawag".

But suicide workshops are OK
They ban someone whose only possible harm is saying things that some people don't want to hear. And they allow in the country someone whose purpose is to help people figure out how to kill themselves, without even bothering to find out first whether the would-be suicider is clinically depressed.

Apparently logic isn't part of this particular package.

Ah, Mother England
I'd like to know who the other 21 "miscreants" in the eyes of the British are.

Treat to stop radio broadcasting KRLA
How dare they even try. This is America or was America, not so sure anymore. United we stand, you know the old saying. Talk radio is the only place for the truth anymore and we who have lived through the first depression will survive this one unless this country becomes a Nazi type take over. They are trying, may they not succeed.

Kudos to You Gallagher!
For mentioning this outrage against Michael Savage.
