Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The headline in my morning paper was the height of mediocrity: “A Standoff Over Steroids.”

Edward R. Murrow would be proud.

Watching Congressman Henry Waxman interrogate baseball’s Roger Clemens this week was maddening. In the middle of a war, while the right to intercept electronic messages by our terrorist enemies is being thwarted by anti-war Democrats, as the economy lumbers down some shaky railroad tracks, and illegal immigrants continue to stream across the border siphoning social services from our local communities, a bunch of grandstanding Congressmen have decided to grind Washington, D.C. to a halt and decide if some pampered, spoiled millionaire baseball player is telling the truth when he denies having Human Growth Hormone injected into his butt.

In the grand scheme of life, I wonder how many taxpayers are on the edge of their seats wondering if some trainer named Brian McNamee is being truthful when he testified that Clemens is lying about his use of steroids and HGH.

It ranks right up there with concern about what Brittney Spears is going to do next in her train wreck of a life.

I’d like to believe that most of us have full enough lives that the personal habits of baseball players or pop divas don’t even register as a blip on our collective radar.

It’s one thing to see paparazzi (what a stupid word) stalk Hollywood celebrities like a bunch of crazed vultures and realize what a ridiculous environment could lead to such a debacle in la-la land.

It’s quite another to recognize that our tax dollars have funded this baseball/steroid three ring circus, a giant waste of government resources if there ever was one.

It’s important to make comparisons between the Brittney Spears and the Roger Clemens of the world because they are both in the exact same type of business: entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.

Too many folks take the baseball steroid controversy seriously because they love their baseball. To them, it’s all about the records, the World Series, celebrating the great American pastime and all.

But baseball players play the game for one reason: our entertainment. They are our movie stars, our pop singers, our recording artists. We expect them to hit the ball, throw the ball, run the bases, and win games.

What grown men inject into their bodies in order to achieve our expectations of them should not only be of no significance to us, it sure as heck is no business of the U.S. Congress.

You want to have Congress hold hearings on baseball players using “performance enhancing drugs?” Okay, let’s keep going down this path. I’m waiting for Congress to drag The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards before some pompous committee so he can testify as to whether or not he ever used performance enhancing drugs prior to one of the 50 thousand concerts he’s performed over the last 60 years or so.

Incidentally, the smart money says he has.

I’d like to see Amy “Rehab” Winehouse, the current toast of the recording industry, explain to Congressman Waxman how many drugs it has taken her to jump up on a stage and sing her songs.

The entertainment industry is full of alcoholics and drug addicts who often flaunt their habits in front of a jaded public.

If you want to fret about baseball players as role models encouraging kids to take steroids, worry more about the recording artists our children are emulating who would dismiss HGH as child’s play.

Cocaine, Ecstasy, heroin, angel dust – these are drugs a heck of a lot worse than steroids, with young people drawn to these killer drugs in far greater numbers than steroids.

Congressmen don’t really care about protecting young people from turning to steroids. We could hold congressional hearings on an hourly basis to try and detect how many people are cheating on their taxes, or which TV star is doing drugs, or whether or not our next door neighbor kicks his dog.

No, politicians love to pander. They enjoy showboating in front of the TV cameras; they like to pretend to be concerned about an issue like steroids in baseball that isn’t really any of their business.

If Major League Baseball feels it has a problem with players taking steroids, let Major League Baseball handle it.

At least there wouldn’t be any taxpayer money involved.

Congress vs Clemmens
I couldn't agree more with Mike Gallagher's article. What a waste of taxpayer's money. The MLB organization should deal with this, not the US congress. I'm really disgusted over this.

Thanks!
An excellent column.

Enough steam has been coming out of my ears to power this country until 2201.

I keep hearing that these lazy fools are our leaders.

Sorry, but they are our employees, AKA "the help"

Get off your butts and vote these horses behinds right back to the un-employment line.

Me too
Congress handed down a couple of "contempt of congress" citations the other day. I would like to volunteer my guilty plea for the same charges too. Congress is the most contemptable group of buffoons in America.
Lets quit allowing tv cameras in committee hearings. With no cameras to play to it might be they can quit grandstanding and accomplish something meaningful. Then again, probably not.

Beanball for Waxman
Waxman, that arrogant twit, deserves one right on his ear. I've watched this disgusting gnome for years and wish somebody would just tell him to "#$$% off."

And yes, I am guilty off contempt as well.

Then we have a hearing by Spector on the NE Patriots stealing signals. Considering that Comcast is a big contributor to Spector and also has a big fight with the NFL of broadcasting, how smelly is that?

What next?

Tell Showboat "Nostrilman" Waxman..
..and certain other grand-standing Politicians, like Sen Grasley.. to please, butt out, and stop misusing our tax dollars for their own, endless irrelavant investigations!

For instance, I don't give a rat's behind if a few ball players privately spends their own money on some steroids, as long as they don't force them on Minors, or drive under the influence of illegal hormones. Enough is enough..

Actually, I would make an exception for an "investigation" of every member of Congress..They should all be drug tested for possible "over-use" of prescription drugs, in particular.. That, in addition to a basic Mental Health Screening. Didn't they approve of something similar for us ordinary Citizens? Perhaps, that might even explain a few things..

Neil Cavuto
...said it best the other night to one of these "so called" leaders...

"Congresswoman, I did not elect you to be doing this, no, you are mistaken, I never elected you to be doing this when there are more important things to attend to"

But, since when did the WILL of the people ever stop a politician from pursuing his/her own personal agenda?

That would be...never.

Politics
Yo! People, our politicians-not law-makers- understand the psyche of the American voter. The average voter is obsessed with sports, and celebrity , hence Spector's attacks on The Patriots. ( not going to try to spell Belechick this time of day) Don't for a minute confuse what goes on in Washinton, D.C. with what is good for the country. What goes on in our capital is what is good for re-election.
Every one is "Shocked, Shocked" that Roger C. might have put himself in danger of JAIL TIME ,by commiting perjury. Pshaw! everybody knows from the Clinton debacle that perjury is a petty crime committed by people every day in an attempt to cover up misdoing. Am I the only person on the planet who was alive during the Clinton years?

Busy bodies never rest
Our trusted leaders can fix anything. Isn't that why we elect them? The only good that comes from this is that they are NOT screwing up something else while they are wasting their time with Baseball.

What we really need is a lot less legislating. It's really hard to get elected by saying you WON'T fix things. Hate to bring it up but Ron Paul has been a beacon of my style of legislator. Let's vote more of him in.

A Good Thing
If Congress is occupied with baseball, then they're not passing laws and spending money to screw up the nation further.

After they get done with baseball, they should investigate whether Dr. Phil violated any laws by visiting Britney Spears in the hospital. Then they should investigate who released the nude pictures of Vanessa Hudgens. Then they should investigate some other trivial stuff. Anything but passing laws and spending money.

Specter: Belichick Was Taping Since 2000

Is this a good use of time for lawmaker?

HP-Bill Belichick has been illegally taping opponents’ defensive signals since he became the New England Patriots’ coach in 2000, according to Sen. Arlen Specter, who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told him that during a meeting Wednesday.

“There was confirmation that there has been taping since 2000, when Coach Belichick took over,” Specter said.

Specter said Goodell gave him that information during the 1-hour, 40-minute meeting, which was requested by Specter so the commissioner could explain his reasons for destroying the Spygate tapes and notes.

MSM
I wonder why Waxman and the Democrats get such a pass on this, their "Terry Schiavo moment" in history?
I'm so sick of this country, or rather, I'm so sick of seeing the biases by the institutions the Founders Constitutionally protected to be the "information providers" and not the propagandists to "we, the people".
If Waxman, the beaver, was a Republican who doubts the anger in the MSM over "hearings" such as these on Roger Clemmens, a PRIVATE citizen?
Why can't the Democrats at least attempt solutions to the ills of this nation instead of wasting their time and OUR money on do-nothing projects such as these "hearings"?

Waste of time!
and MONEY -- OURS! MLB and Bud Selig should be dealing with this, NOT CONGRESS!! Shouldn't they be busy governing our country?? What is that Harry Potter's Gringott's Bank troll-looking Henry Waxman DOING???

Mom in Wisconsin

The cyniscism of these columnist
knows no bounds.

They aught to live life a little then might truly have something to write about.

People care about honor and truth in their lives and the world. This is not just a sports issue.

I actually heard
someone on Fox News say that, due to some anti trust law or whatnot, the ONLY group that baseball is answerable to is Congress! Why should that be? Shouldn't they be answerable to the Baseball Commission? Just another ruse to play with our tax dollars. Some of those congressmen could sure use a shot of B12 themselves--maybe they could borrow some of that from Roger....
Is anyone honest anymore?

JimP
Honor and truth have never been the hallmark of Congress. The problem is congress sticking their nose into the entertainment industry. That is, after all, what sport is, entertainment. If you want the purity of the sport, look to the Olympics...they don't need to make money. Commercial sports is all about cash-flow, so as long as we are being "entertained" the "Commissioners" will look the other way.
If the pwoers-that-be really wanted to do something, they wouldn't pay these guys so much money and then there would be less pressure on them to play with an injury or try to "enhance" their performance. As long as they dangle obscene amounts of money in front of these players, they'll bite, regardless of the cost in their health (and pride).

If these guys have been using illegal drugs, its a matter for the DEA or FDA, not Congress. It's a law enforcement issue, at least. This grandstanding by the politicians is over the top.

Dave,
The flip-side to their pre-occupation is that when they need to do the People's work, it is knee-jerk and ill-conceived...wait...that's the result of most what they do anyway...nevermind.

There's an understatement, mate!
I doubt you'll get any disagreement here, Mike.

How many people are hurt
by steroid use? How many people are killed each year by someone driving under the influence of steroids? Do you ever see someone stealing, killing, raping...etc to get steroids? If a sport does not want steroids in it, then its up to that sport to take measures to stop it. All of these congressmen and senators that are persuing this issue should be investigated for fraud, waste and abuse and then tried and convicted.

Cyanide pill, Mr. Burton?
The part of this circus that really offended me was Dan Burton’s off-the-wall maniacal shrieking at Brian McNamee. Burton came off as no better than a googly-eyed little kid so star-struck with his hero worship of Clemens that he had no interest in maintaining even a veneer of objectivity.

Burton had better tread lightly, because his stupid histrionics, in the hands of a skilled Democrap challenger, are the kind of thing that could prove politically suicidal for him this fall.

-35
Is the rating I give this Congress. That is negative 35. They are useless. I get so disgusted with their idiocy. But, you're right, if they are wasting their time showboating and pandering, they aren't passing any stupid expensive laws with billions of porkers in it. But, our national security is at stake and fading and many other important issues are not being attended to. And we the people elected these idiots??

Big Daddy
Every one is accountable to someone. Whether Congress or Clemens. How that accountability works its way out is not in this columnists hands or for that matter the shrieking masses.

Clemens' feet are being held to the fire period. How its done is academic.

Good to have Mr. Nostrils...
back in charge of a committee. Fellow conservatives, this is what you get when you stay home and don't vote. When last heard from, Waxman was defending the indefensible with the Rapist in Chief, insulting our intelligence at every turn. Now this. Good Grief Batman.

This is pathetic,
National hero my aching rear end. National disgrace is more like it. These sports player have no honor. They are men 'babies'. Can not even own up to their own shame. Then the idiot public screams at their elected officials and could care less about honor.

Mark McGuire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, OJ Simpson and on and on and how the people love it.

Give them cake. Pathetic.

Holding hands
If congress is holding one hand, and the other hand is holding the sample cup, will we ever really get any urine samples? As far as I can tell, this is bureaucratic business as usual.

Hey, this is what you wanted, right?
--
For all you McCain supporters out there in Townhall country, this is the kind of government for which you're antsing.

John McCain has made a perfect "Rockefeller Republican" career of shoving the federal government into every nook and cranny of American life.

He hasn't found a single restrictive clause of the Constitution he's not willing to jump over, rip through, or flush down the hopper.

Hell, he's probably got Article I, Section 9 printed on every sheet of toilet paper in his office rest room, and he wipes his broad butt with it three times a day.

There are limitations on the powers and responsibilities of the Congress written into the Constitution, but only "kooks" --

...like Ron Paul...

-- insist that these limitations be obeyed.

Those of you willing to vote for McCain (the same way you'd vote for the corresponding secretary of NAMBLA if he were the GOP nominee) consider that sort of attitude "naive."

Well, welcome to Waxman's MLB steroid hearings.

The illusion that Congress is "Doing Something" that draws lotsa headline attention and risks precisely *NOTHING* in terms of real political capital for them.

Want a symbol of "bipartisan" government, McCain style?

"Here's your sign!"

--

SJ Doc
I agree with you on everything except one thing: Why pick on Waxman and the Dems. There were steriod hearings two or three years ago or so when Tom Davis (R-VA) was the chairman. Davis was questioned about conducting the hearings. He replied that nothing and no one was outside the reach of the Committee. So much for the Republican revolution.

The Republicans had their chance. We now know they can talk the talk, but that is all they can do.

Congress needs performance enhancement
If I thought a steroid shot in the but would improve the congressional performance I'd be all for it. But I think only a clean slate will do that.
All entertainers and their fans need to be reminded that in early centuries entertainers were the court jesters and fools. Considering a lot of todays entertainers that seems appropriate.

DrBob - Oh, talk isn't *just* what...
--
...the "Rockefeller Republicans" can do!

Hell, they're proving that they can baldly and reflexively reject *REAL* conservative political principles and keep on inflicting corrupt, perverted, grasping porkslurpers --

...in other words, politial poltroons every bit as bad as the *BEST* the Democrat Party has to offer...

-- on the nation when they've got infinitely better men ready and willing to obey the Constitution and do the job of governance under the rule of law.

What makes you think that I'm singling out "Socialist Party A" - your beloved Democrats - for attention?

"Socialist Party B" - the RINO conspiracy running the GOP right now - deserves every bit as loving and kindly a treatment.

And here's *YOUR* sign!

--

SJ Doc
Where in my post did I say anything about my beloved Democrats?

For the most part I think we are having a hair splitting feud.

I think our differences are this: There are no "real" Republicans. (Ron Paul is a libertarian and so am I.) You can critize RINO's or Rockerfeller Republicans all you want. I agree they deserve criticisms. But get this: all Republicans deserve criticisms of all colors.

The earmarks, the war, the doubling of the DOEducation, the medicare expansion - was not limited to RINOs. There is no RINO conspiracy.
Republicans want more govt, more fed involvment in your life, and the constitution is what they say it is. Just look at Republicans - they love Bush.

A liberal says "Enough!"
As a liberal, I find the congressional investigation of professional sports totally unwarranted. Even I, who can find lots of things for government to do with which I can agree, think the investigation of the use of steroids in MLB is ridiculous. I just hope those Republicans on the committee, who fawned over Roger Clemens, got plenty of autographed balls and photos. I didn't know Republicans were such big fans of juicing pitchers!

Then there's Arlen Specter, or perhaps it should be spelled Spectre, going after the NFL for its handling of the New England Patriots' "Spygate."

Both MLB and the NFL should be able to impose regulations on both athletes and clubs and not have to worry about Congress.

you know
In many ways I have to agree with Gallagher on this one. It seems like a big waste of congressional effort. But sometimes I get sentimental and think that Baseball is America. No other sport connects to our soul more than baseball. It might not be the greatest sport. It might not be more uniquely American than football. But it appeals to me as American like no other sport. We have a single A team in my city and I love sitting on the 3rd base line on a fine day. To me, that is as Ameican as a 4th of July cook-out.

Really
With all that needs to be accomplished, this is a waste of our time. DEA or FDA needs to pursue this, not Congress.

Investigate
The congress, and the senate.....NOT with committess of "their peers"..but with ordinary citizens who have a modicum of understanding of the "contitutional government" these baffoons are sworn to uphold.

Put them all on trial for treason for allowing our borders to continually be infiltrated.

Put them on on notice and warn them of the possibility of "being FIRED" for derilection of duty and incompetence.

Put them all on notice that we the people may, just may invoke our rights as delineated in the very constitution they are sworn to uphold and TAKE BACK our country.....and "throw off the shackles of their double talking tyrany.

Something to think about.
I think using steroids or orher drugs to improve ones athletic performance, and what that can do to a person, is terrible. I believe it is bad for young people to emulate athletes who do this. But this part has to do with parents and going coaches teaching responsiblity. And fans who are unhappy with things should just stay away until it changes.
Also where what is happening is illegal, we have law enforcement agencies whose job is to enforce the law. But they need our help.
Before you call me simplistic, I thought I'd tell you all of that before this point final point. Congress, and other such government entities, want to look like they are doing something about an issue that their constituents are concerned with, even if it is actually a low priority. Doing something for apperance is often worse than nothing. But as long as MLB and other organizations want tax subsidies to construct facilities, government officials could use that to justify their interference. Something to think about.

Congress?
I feel so much safer from terrorism with Congess doing this in baseball.

Cynical
ROFLMAO!!!

Amen!!! The idiots!

Wag The Dog
And when this one's done, find some other dog to wag.

Good article
I've been watching this entire "steroid controversy" and wondering why in the hell Congress is wasting its time interrogating baseball players when the country has more pressing issues. I'm not even sure why congress apparently has some sort of oversight jurisdiction.

Congressional Baseball? Hearings
What a waste of time and money. Our do-nothing congress picks steroid use by baseball players as THE CRITICAL ISSUE while they putz around and do nothing about more mundane things like national security, illegal immigration, THE BUDGET!!, Chinese and Russian military threats.

The poor darlings have announced they need to take a 13 day break. The workload has been tough. Whew! Baseball hearing are exhausting.

Congressmen and Senators: while your away don't forget to make up some lies to convince the voters at home you are worth re-electing. How could the nation possibly get along without you in office?

Amen Brother
Ive been asking this question since this nonsense started!! Why in hell is Congress trying this case? Shouldnt this be in State or Federal Courts? I guess its just another "Tax Dollars at Work" Exactly why we think they are the biggest Morons walking and their approval ratings are lower than HMOs!

Waste of Time and Money
Thank you - why our Congress goes after Roger Clemens, at a time when America is fighting terrorists, shows how "out of touch" they are. They do not recognize real problems so what good are they? Their ignorance is beyond belief. This is just more of their god complex thinking that because they decide to go after sports figures, we "the people" will worship at their feet. They are total idiots. They are blind to terrorists, not even passing this the latest tool for our law enforcement officials. They are blind because, in the end, if we have another 9/11, they could be the targets, not just the dumb masses.

DrBob - My apologies...
--
...for having mistaken you for a supporter of "Socialist Party A."

I'm yet another "constitutionalist kook" driven out of the GOP by Nixon's slide into arrant and unapologetic statism back in the '70s (which is how the Libertarian Party got started).

While it may be appropriate to view today's Republican Party in the main as the goddamnable porkslurpers you depict, it is pessimistic in the extreme to do so.

Besides, despite the mainline Townhall.com response to Dr. Paul's campaign, the fact that there are so damn *MANY* Ron Paul supporters among the posters and even the columnists (like John Stossel) on this site gives me cause to hope that the Goldwater sentiment is still alive in the GOP despite the dominance of the bloated "dime store New Deal" sunzabitches who make of Republican governance in these United States a "Socialist Party B" echo of all that is treasonous and tyrannical within the Beltway.

"Every man, woman, and responsible child has an unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon - rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything - any time, any place, without asking anyone's permission."

-- L. Neil Smith, "The Atlanta Declaration"

Good column, Gallagher
The more I read the posters, the more I'm coming under the influence of libertarianism - as a conservative, libertarian always sounded too much like liberal . . .

I don't want to know about the Rocketman's use, abuse, nonuse - if every baseball player took steroids, there would still be only ONE Roger Clemens, ONE Nolan Ryan, etc. Let's have the minor leagues, MLB and SLB - steroid league, whatever, who cares!!

This is McCain ennui setting in big time. He's so boring, uninspiring, uncharismatic, stiff and crabby. Who can I vote for in the upcoming Pennsylvania primary??? Please, someone, help me!

Losers
That's because congress have nothing else better to do.

By George
I think that they ought to get rid of all sports and even the Bollywoods. Those damn steroids, I wish they hadnt attacked our people, Oh that was the terrorist or have I just awaken from a deep sleep on my steroids .

I recall in the 80 and 90 that baseball lost its
appeal to the American people then all of a sudden these guys came along and were belting balls out of stadiums and we all got interested again with the game. Attendance went up money was being made. Might be why Congress is really investigating these people, they make more money

Who cares what they are on if they are giving the people what they want.

I think Congress could learn a few things from the peoples entertainment branch/sports dont YOU?

Butt Out, Or Get Out
I stopped watching professional baseball, football and basketball years ago. I finally got to the point where I couldn't stand to see one more drugged-up, thuggish, prima donna cavorting in the end zone, or around the bases, or on the bench.

Without a doubt, the worst of all these sports is the NBA. These overpaid, garishly tattooed felons represent the absolute bottom of the barrel in human respectability. The fact that people still watch and applaud these thugs speaks as much about the civility of the fans as it does about the players.

The NFL is only marginally better, primarily because there are a larger percentage of white players. (Oh my God, did he just imply that black players are more inclined to thuggish behavior then white players? I think he did. He must be a racist.) Regardless of color, the in-season and
off-season behavior of these goons is frightful.

America's past time seems to have gone down the crapper also. Steroids are the drug of choice for players whose star power is flickering. Baseball management looks the other way as steroid pumped players step up to the plate to swat yet another asterisked record breaker over the fence.

Despite my disgust with professional sports, the crux-of-the-biscuit is the abominable behavior of the real criminal element in America ... the Congress of the United States.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why it's any business of the Congress to involve itself in the behavior of professional athletes. Why are they wasting time and tax money scolding these bad boys of sports? Is it too much to ask that they stick to the job for which they were hired? Since they have obviously forgotten, I'll remind them that IT'S THE CONSTITUTION STUPID!! Nowhere in that dear document does it refer to professional sports. These congressional buffoons need to butt out or get out!

SJ Doc
I know it’s off topic but the quote intrigued me. Why would a child have an inalienable right to carry a machinegun? What kind of person would give a child a loaded weapon and tell then to walk around with it. And when you say anything, does that include nuclear, biological and chemical weapons?

Waxman/Clemens
Waxman is a shining example of what's wrong with congress. They really have lost track of why they are there - Some, like Waxman and Specter, more than others!

They use our tax money and power they have voted in for themselves for show trials for thier own political benefit. Show trials like this one without due process for thier target(s) is a national disgrace. And even worse, they, the Waxman's of the world, can't even be held liable or accountable for what they do or say in these kangaroo courts.

They (Kangaroo Congress people) can lie, make unfounded accusations and misrepresent the truth at the hearings and then turn around and charge Joe sixpack with purgery if they forget what they might have said 10 years ago - Disgraceful!!!!

On the other hand
We are better off anytime they are not passing laws. Plus, their comedic value is much higher than their legislative value.

CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE NEEDS STEROIDS
Actually, that title isn't completely correct. There are some members of that august group who do not need steroids; Dan Burton of Indiana is one.

Where is it that some Committee members need injections of steroids? As mentioned in other blog and column comments, these knuckleheads need steroid injections straight into their pea-brains. They need all the help they can get, although it may be too late for some -- Waxperson comes to mind as a "for instance."

Gestell Said
"I didn't know Republicans are such big fans of juicing pitchers."

I can't believe I'm the only one who is going to hit this batting practice fastball out of the park. We did know that democrats are fans of drug dealers, liars/perjurers (see your hero, the Rapist in Chief), and general low-lifes.

I wouldn't fawn over either guy, but for democrats to fawn over McNamee is ridiculous yet expected.

keep it green!
I totally concur Gallagher! Legalize marijuana now!

Amen

reply to Cookie
I was referring to the wiffle balls thrown at Clemens by some of the Republicans on the committee. Waxman was doing his righteous crusader act, but I thought some of the Republicans were going to ask Clemens for his autograph right there in the hearing room.

Now for your silly stereotyping. I have no fondness for Bill Clinton and you have absolutely no basis in anything I've ever posted on TH to assume that I approve of or tolerate drug dealers and other low-lifes. Your comments are examples of pure right-wing stereotyping and cliche-mongering, and they are very tired cliches at that.

Maybe I should call you a homophobic, Bible-thumping bigot, who is a closet fascist at heart. There. Sound good to you? Sound reasonable? I thought not.

You said it MIke
Why America should give a tinkers about what baseball players injest into themseves I have'nt the faintet idea. But as for me I'd just as soon my tax dollars be used for something useful. But at least if them fools in Washinton D C busy themselves with baseball players they ain't messen something of importance up.

barsixb
You mention the only ray of sunshine in an overcast of monumental irrelevance. And these idiots get re-elected.

Gallagher right on pt wrong on reason
Look folks,

Here's history of why Congress could and should do what they did and a warning for citizens and businesses to stay away from asking for government intervention.

ML Baseball brought this on its own sport, because, years ago it asked for and got from the U.S. govt. a special exemption from the anti-trust laws of the U.S. Doing such, it sceeded much of it own liberties for oversight to the government. Not to mention the billions of dollars of local taxpayer supported venues and payoffs. (Sound scary/familiar - this was even before 1984) Gallagher, admittedly lacking in education, and many pundits should get educated before they talk out of their backsides about why this is occurring in the first place.

Again, MLB asked for and received special benefits from the govt. - They got it, and now, they should get it.

Why does this matter? Because, as SJ Doc at 10:09 am states -- You will get this same government from John McCain. He "wasted" the Senate's time in the past few years on the same thing - oh, but he is a Republican.

McCain will go down anyway, so get used to it either way whether it comes Sen. McCain or from a Dem. congress and to be President Obama.

A Baseball Congress
Hey Waxman, C'mere! the cute chick over by the bar with the deep voice, the tall one, wants to meet you, she says she wants to ride a mustache on the floor in congress, she says her name is Roger.

Will Congress go after Brittany Spears?
After all, many singers take drugs and alcohol to loosen up before a concert, supposedly making them better performers.

And when are they going after Playboy Models for having breast implants? I mean, after all, they were able to beat out the competition for big contracts simply because they had internal falsies.

There is nothing wrong with athletic associations setting standards and holding athletes accountable, but as Mike Gallagher said, Congress would be better served to concentrate on the business of the people.

Hypocritical "Pro-Choicers"
Once again, the Lefties show that they are not really "pro-choice," and that they don't really believe that people have the "right to do what they want with their own body."

Of course, this is no surprise to those of us who think that the Lefties are full of... themselves.

Miss America is Next
Is Congress going to start holding hearings on whether Miss America contestants have had plastic surgery to give them an edge over the competition, or whether they are taking diet pills.

I wouldn't put it past some of those dirty old men... nor some of those gals in comfy shoes either!

Three words from Clemens
and it all would be over. 'I took injections.'

That would be too cruelly honest, save everyone too much time and money. Above all his admiring public couldn't handle it.

Congress is so doggone mean. Those bad bad people.

JimP- so what if he does or not
At what point will this totalitarian Star Chamber stop?

What is the point where they won't intrude into the lives of private citizens?

I think it is really weird that these totalitarian dictators feel an urgancy to hold public hearings into such trivia, and yet think we have to keep our noses out of the conversations of vicious terrorists!

Once again the Left reveal their mental disorder.

Poor babies...
Conservatives are such a pathetic joke.

You decry Hollywood and would love to see every drug user on the planet punished severely...

Except for Rush Limbaugh and Clemens...

Sorry folks - the man is a bold faced liar and he deserves to be publicly humiliated, just as you will be in the november elections.

This is ridiculous....
I cannot believe the audacity of the Congress that, we the people have elected and pay, are actually pursuing this folly. They are idiots. Every single solitary one of them and they should all be fired for not doing their frigging job.
