Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Today on my radio show I interviewed one of the most courageous women I’ve ever met.

Maureen Faulkner is, quite simply, a remarkable lady, a symbol of everything that is great about America: strength, goodness, decency and tenacity.

Tragically, she will forever be linked to a monster named Mumia, a cold-blooded cop killer who has inexplicably become popular, even beloved, after he brutally executed a brave young police officer in Philadelphia on a bitterly cold morning in Philadelphia in December of 1981.

The connection between Mumia Abu-Jamal and Maureen Faulkner? Abu-Jamal was the one who killed Maureen’s husband, a popular and accomplished young police officer named Danny.

The facts are stark and simple. While Officer Faulkner was attempting to subdue a struggling punk named William Cook who had been driving the wrong way down a one-way street with his lights off in the middle of the night, no fewer than four eyewitnesses watched Cook’s brother, a disgruntled, angry, white-hating activist named Mumia Abu-Jamal run up behind the police officer and, in a cowardly act, fire a bullet into his back. As the young cop spun around, he managed to get a shot off that hit Abu-Jamal. But by now, the multiple eyewitnesses later testified, Office Faulker collapsed on the frozen pavement, lying on his back. Jamal leaned over the dying officer and finished him off, firing a bullet between his eyes.

In terms of indisputable guilt, there’s so much more. The snarl of Jamal as he later said at the hospital, “I shot the mother f***er and I hope the mother f***er dies”, an evil boast that was heard by two people. The ballistics evidence linking the bullet to Jamal’s gun (he was wearing a leather shoulder holster the night of the killing). The violent rhetoric that Jamal was known to have spoken against police officers and authority figures during his days as a failed “journalist” in Philadelphia prior to the shooting.

It was one of the most open and shut murder cases in the history of the city of Philadelphia.

Naturally, he was convicted. Justifiably, he was sentenced to death.

But the worse was yet to come.

This crazy world, inhabited by crazy fanatics who never met a liberal cause they didn’t like, featured an emerging “Free Mumia” movement, a cause embraced by radical hippies, dimwitted college kids, and a few Hollywood has-beens like Ed Asner, Mike Ferrell, and Ruby Dee.

It’s hard to tell how this could have possibly happened in the face of the preponderance of evidence against this miserable killer. In most cases, those sympathetic to Mumia never even bothered to read the evidence contained in the trial transcripts, a trial that was always on the verge of a three-ring race circus due to Abu-Jamal’s courtroom histrionics and the actions of his fellow “Move” activists.

As best I can tell, a number of people have been duped into believing that Abu-Jamal was railroaded by a “white racist court system” since he didn’t face an all-black jury. Evidently, these misguided souls believe that in 1982 America, only a black juror can objectively hear a case involving a black man.

Or maybe it’s a subtle yet vicious form of racism because these liberal elitists are so enamored with a black man who is considered articulate and eloquent, the so-called “voice of the voiceless.”

Whatever their idiotic reasons, the truth is now finally captured in a book, “Murdered by Mumia.” Maureen Faulker, a woman who has endured years of abuse by Abu-Jamal supporters, suffered through court reversals and legal wranglings, and always knowing that the man who murdered her husband has become a twisted folk hero, co-wrote this new book with the terrific Philadelphia radio talk host Michael Smerconish.

The book is the definitive explanation of the night that Mumia Abu-Jamal killed Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in cold blood. Maureen’s story is supported by courtroom testimony, irrefutable evidence, and most of all, the agonizing yet fulfilling war that Maureen has waged all these years on behalf of her beloved husband.

Every myth is debunked; every lie corrected.

She has never wavered. She never faltered. She has told her husband’s story to anyone who will listen, traveling all over this country to make sure no one can be mistaken of the horrible injustice that Mumia Abu-Jamal has committed and still gets away with every single breath of his evil existence.

I was proud to interview Mrs. Faulkner today. I will always admire her courage. And like millions of Americans, I share her hope and prayer that one day, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s death sentence will finally be carried out and justice can truly prevail.

Maureen’s husband deserves as much.

Makes you just want to puke!
A follow-up interview with Asner or (better yet) Ferrell would be instructive...

As most of us wish to say:
Can I push the button - PLEASE!

And finally execute this piece of garbage.

Contempt between
ethnic groups is a problem in this country. The problem is aggravated by fools that defend criminal behavior by members of their group. These people just supply one more reason for bigots to justify their bigotry. Its sad but true, that the highly visible shenanigans of a foolish few, wipe out the millions of day to day demonstrations of the brotherhood of man by the good-hearted live and let live folks who make the world go round.

Let's waterboard him to death.
farrel, asner and dee do not have any inkling of what this woman has endured. I have never heard dee speak but I have heard farrel and asner mouth off and neither has even a touch of reality in thier mouthings. I refuse to watch anything that either of these idiots have appeared in for fear that they might benefit in some manner.

STOP the FairTax SCHEME

The FairTax SCHEME is a Plan to eliminate the IRS and substitute a 23-34% consumption tax on all new sales. The problem is that nearly all savings except some IRAs has already been taxed when earned and this additional point of sale consumption tax would tax these savings a second time at the 23-34% tax rate. That would devastate the savings of nearly all retirees.

Liberalism IS a mental disorder
Liberals see greatness in evil and evil in greatness. For those of us who are sane, there is no need to argue about the sanity of a liberal. It is on display for all to see.

None of those hollyweird crazies would EVER dare defend their positions to anyone who doesn't share in their insane view of the world.

Some things are not explainable
Some things are not explainable! This is one of them. A friend of mine calls this condition the you cannot Argue with Ignorance, nor Debate with Stupidity Syndrome, or AIDS Syndrome for short!

1maschrom
Perhaps liberalism is a mental disorder, but this implies that its proponents cannot help themselves. I prefer to think of liberalism as consisting of two characteristics: intellectual dishonesty and intellectual laziness. It is the DELIBERATENESS of liberals' intellectual processes that makes liberalism so sordid and despicable.

Savage99
Again, you have literately wrote upon a well analyzed topic. I always enjoy reading your commentaries. The fact that Mr. Gallagher generalizes that all the supporters of Abu-Jamal are liberals bothers me; generalizing is rather like assuming, it does not make for a particularly good argument.

In any case, Mrs. Faukner is certainly a victim of our contemporary conservative society who do not believe that the police can do their jobs and have to, as the NRA insists, keep one or many firearms in their homes, many that eventually get into the hands of people like Abu-Jamal. There is too much ease in legally acquiring a gun, also.

And one touchy subject: there are many people in our conservative society that have pushed the idea that the police have too much power, are heady with power, arrest for any reason, love confrontation, and are not there to help you. That's why there are groups among the NRA to usurp the job of the police. There are groups of them everywhere. The monied only make it more legitimate for the frustrated poor to make firearms a must for the home.

So it is a warped world we live in. Obviously I don't own a gun. I figure I'll have a better chance on the pity end than confronting them. I do pity better than I do fear. Well, I'm terribly sorry that all this has happened to you, and I will pray, I know that thing that liberals do in mergencies, for you that you finally with the publication of your book find justice. And thanks to Mr. Gallagher, although he piles all us liberals together with commies and socialists, you may get the recognition that your book needs. My dear sister, my heart goes out to you, I loved my husband, too.

GREAT COLUMN, MIKE
Everytime Maureen Faulkner stands up to contemptible fools like Ed Asner and the rest of the Abu-Jamal supporters, it's a victory for humanity.

Then there is this monster. This despictable sub-human, MooMoo Abu-Jerk Face. That this filth still sucks air, is beyond the realm of all reason.

And, of course, Philly continues to be cesspool of crime.

It is my sincere hope that every decent American supports Maureen and buys her book. It goes without saying that every police officer in the nation supports her.

Let's remember Danny Faulkner today and offer a prayer of thanks. He gave his life in the line of duty. And let's offer a prayer for Maureen at this very special time of year.

Note to Mike: May be the best column you ever wrote. Many thanks!

buzzkat

I think you are mostly correct concerning the LEADERS of liberalism, however I think that the average *liberal on the street* is just plain crazy.

Oh, and stupid. Can't forget stupid.

savage99
Good comments. The reflexive and intransigent defense of our chosen "group" even when the evidence is all the other way has created real communications (and other) problems in our society.

And Jeanne-Marie, sorry but I can't agree with what I think you were getting at: that gun control would keep guns out of the hands of the Mumias of the world.

Savage99
Well said. It seems to me that setting any class of citizen apart and giving them special privileges is racism and bigotry unto itself. If ANYONE really cared about ANYONE abortion would not be legal. Who in this country believes in the sanctity of life anymore? Killing one another is a natural result of lack of respect for life in general.

jeanne-Marie: "Who's Afrraid...?"
I just reviewed your blog “Who’s Afraid of Equal Rights?” Why radical feminists of course. Thanks to the lobbying efforts of feminists focused on chivalrous “secular progressive” male politicians & judges, today’s women children live increasingly “responsibility optional, consequence free” lives. Women have the majority of civil, education, reproductive, marital, divorce, child-custody, and child-support rights in America. Result? Women are abusing “No-Fault Divorce”: women apply for 70% of all divorces while utilizing children as financial assets in order to leverage the largest amount of de facto Alimony: i.e., child support. Why find a new boyfriend if you don’t have an ex-husband to subsidize your new love life. Given their child custody monopoly, mothers commit 60% of all child abuse. Moreover, in recent poll 30% of women were willing to commit maternity fraud (lying about her fertility or use of birth control) depending on the prospective father’s income. Fifty percent (50%) of all married women commit adultery which results in at least 1-10% of women committing the most despicable act of domestic abuse: paternity fraud (lying about her child’s real father) w/ impunity by legally forcing their husbands to pay for some else’s children. Why not have an affair if you have an ambulatory wallet to pay for consequences of said affair. Women routinely employ abortion as de facto birth control that results in 25 % (1.4M) of all children conceived yearly being aborted for pure convenience. Also, since Women unilaterally decide to have children out of wedlock at least 37% of the time, those same chivalrous male politicians enacted social welfare programs ($1.4T per year) that benefit promiscuous irresponsible women at the expense of the majority male taxpayer base. Why is it always some woman implying that we live a “conservative” country when its clear that we are living in an increasingly gynocentric, socialist dystopia?

Right
Gun control would ensure that only the scumbag mumias of the world would have guns.

Demosthenes
Outstanding post.

jeanne-marie: conservative society?
Given your provincial, myopic perspective as the privileged spouse of an academic & being limited to the associated gilded cage of a university community, I can’t expect you to think beyond an “echo chamber” of like-minded, enlightened leftists who routinely cluck their tongues & pass judgment on the actions of better individuals than yourselves. Individuals, like Officer Faulkner, who have to “dirty their hands” in the real world.

That being said, I must respectfully decline your generous offer to join you in your delusion. I am not a member of the NRA nor do I own a gun. Howver, if you think that the 2nd Amendment is the sole litmus test for a “Conservative society” your’s must truly be a pedestrian intellect. Stop perceiving reality through a post-Modern, neo-Marxist prism. A lack of “gun control” did not kill Officer Faulkner. A leftwing, gynocentric mainstream establishment that ignores the existence of an increasing violent hyphenated-American under class (created by the feminist “entitlement industrial complex), and that rationalizes, excuses & enables the violent behavior of thugs like Abu-Jamal, especially when directed against symbols of “white” legal authority, killed Officer Faukner. Why? Because the left wing establishment both needs & secretly despises responsible men like Officer Faukner for doing the dirty work that they themselves refuse to do from their guarded high rise towers, gated communities, suburbs, university towns, etc. To many in the left, Officer Faulkner is just another expendable white male of questionable motives who assumed the authority of a symbolic "oppressor” of the hyphenated-American urban community & got his just desserts.

Dilema?
The liberal Hollywood elites can't help themseleves.
You have a black activist who hates the police. It's automatic for the left to gravel at his feet. Are we really surprised that they don't care about the facts?

jeanne-Marie: ERA
Modern Feminism was ostensibly sold as “equality of opportunity” when actually it is about allowing upper-middle class women the luxury of “equality in outcome” (e.g., “comparable worth”) in the world of men while retaining their domestic power-base. Gender is course a social construct when it applies to the traditional world of men, but women should have the privilege of maintaining their traditional “matriarchal” power monopoly (“pregnancy should be a super ability” ) because they have an innate “nurturing” nature. But, speaking as member of the “disposable” gender, I’m all in favor of an ERA (“Equal Responsibility Amendment”) which should contain the following items:

(a) Women are legally held accountable for their actions (e.g., CAPT Nowak, Mary Winkler, Andrea Yates, Debra LaFave, etc.) like their male counterparts;
(b) Current paternal court system is overhauled to be gender-neutral WRT divorce, alimony, child custody & child support
(c) The law mandates automatic paternity tests for all children born in the U.S. (NOW will fight this tooth & nail)
(d) Women accept the consequences of engaging relations w/ men with whom they really don’t want to have children rather than using abortion as de facto birth control (apparently 20% of U.S. children conceived are currently aborted- pretty pathetic behavior on the part of the “morally superior” gender);
(e) Women are prosecuted for committing the most despicable form of domestic abuse: PATERNITY FRAUD (we will need to build more prisons because this will apply to at least 10% of the female population)
(f) The U.S. government spends as much $ financing male specific disease research as it does female specific research (e.g., prostrate vice breast cancer research) which includes the average life-span disparity (men on average lived longer that women prior to the 20th century)

Jeanne-marie
No, Mrs. Faukner is not a victim of contemporary conservative society.
Abu-Jamal is a product of leftist like youself who are held captive to the utopian dream that denies the existence of evil and of enimies.
You blame Faukner's death on guns instead of the scum that thinks he can get away with anything because he's black. There is a huge tidal wave of hate whitey perpetrated by liberals. If a black kills someone that is his right because after all his great-great-great grandfather was a slave. A black is NEVER held accountable for his actions. It is always the fault of white American males. You try to divert from this by feeling pity for Mrs. Faukner. Keep your pity.
Try using reason for a change. You think conservatives don't like police, you are dillusional, listen to some rap music. When I read stuff like this by liberals I am convinced that they are so snug in their cocoon of self-rightiousness that, once they've determined the left side of any issue, they are impervious to even hearing the other side. You feel so special about yourself for sticking up for both sides. You are just wrong about everything you utter.

(g) Women comprise 50% of mining, construction & other work-related deaths (not likely since the lives of women are more valuable than men), e.g., “poor” women should be taken off the welfare rolls IOT be given the opportunity to die along side poor men since gender is a social construct;
(h) Women work 50% of all overtime;
(i) Women pay 59% of all income taxes (59 cents on every dollar collected by the federal government goes to pay for entitlements that almost solely benefit WOMEN)
(j) Men are accorded the opportunity to stay at home to raise their children without being subjected to the usual misandrist “shaming language”, nor losing their home & children
(k) The Social Security Retirement age for women should be extended to 72 IOT compensate for their artificially enhanced life spans;
(l) “Chivalry” extended toward women will be treated as a felony; and
(m) Women do 50% of all standard dirty/analytically-challenging male domestic chores: e.g., replace/re-wire dishwasher, move 8 tons of river rock around the pool area, repair sprinkler piping, inspect crawl space, rip out & replace crawl space door, administer home WLAN, etc.

Any female-chauvinists in favor of said ERA? In think not. Let the “female shaming language” exercise begin…

lib knee jerk reactions
since when do facts actually mean anything to the left. Emotion is far more important and credible than truth. The leftists honor nummerous killers and hollyweird lionizes castro and his favorite execuitioner che as though these muderers are wonderful men rather than a stain on humanity

What the heck...
is wrong with Philadelphia? Re-elect Murtha and Spector year after year and they can't execute a piece of trash like this guy? And they actually have people supporting his release? It's a city/world gone mad.

P.S. Stop Blaming Feminists
It is not the fault of working-class women such as I, that wealthy Ladies Who Lunch (or "Sandalistas" as P.J. O'Rourke calls them) drive their hubby's Volvos to demonstrations against things they do not understand.

It is also not the fault of blue-collar feminists who only ever wanted a place at the starting line without anchors tied to both feet, that the same people who made a mockery out of unions have warped the feminist movement out of shape.

When a murderous Black man shoots a cop in cold blood and brags about it, and Hollywood MEN take up his cause, JUST HOW IN THE HADES IS THAT MY FAULT BECAUSE I WANTED A CREDIT CARD IN MY OWN NAME?

Tit for tat in Phillie?
This obvious candidate for the death penalty kills a white cop in 81. The police kill 11 members of MOVE in 85 with a fire bomb. There is more to this story than the Ms. Faulkner and Galleghers's comtempt for the elite Hollywood has beens.

Free Mumia!
Free the Jena 6! Free Michael Vick!

Why is it that minorities should not be punished for their crimes?

herd mentality
There is a certain breed of "people" who will always side with cop-killers. They invariably think of themselves, and often refer to themselves as "liberal" of one stripe or another. They are always wrong.
Cop-killers should be executed.

The Lefties make it hard for the Police
to enforce the law in these gang-infested areas, and then they wonder why they can't get policemen to work in those areas.

I am so sick of hearing fat welfare mothers defend their thuggish children against officers who are trying to do their jobs, and then turn around and whine that the can't get a policeman when somebody is breaking into their house.

It is the same problem when the Leftie activist whip up the inner city people into a frenzy, and get them to loot, riot and burn down all the stores(which has happend in Los Angeles twice in my lifetime).

Then the people whine that all the businesses moved out of their area.

Excuse me, but DUH!!!!!

Police Officers and business people are supposed to take all this abuse, and then come back for more? What planet do you live on?

I suggest to all dangerous neighborhoods, that you all band together and form organizations that support the police departments where you live, and stop heaping abuse on people who are just trying to do their jobs.

GyroTyro
I agree on both counts.

The only problem is that I don't think anyone has ever died from Swirlie Boarding.

How about using a woodchipper?

AudiR10
Hey, after working my whole life in the rat race, I would settle for a caveman husband who says, "no wife of mine is ever going to work!!!"

What ever happened to those guys?

The men nowdays want to sit on their duffs and let the woman pull in the salary.

jeannie-marie
Your obvious hatred of gun owners is mis-directed. The only persons who abide by gun laws are law abiding citizens. So when you put limits on the ownership of guns you are only putting limits on the ability of the law abiding citizen not the law breaking criminals. More guns in the hands of the law abiding just creates more danger for the criminal.

Audr10
>When a murderous Black man shoots a cop in cold blood and brags about it, and Hollywood MEN take up his cause, JUST HOW IN THE HADES IS THAT MY FAULT BECAUSE I WANTED A CREDIT CARD IN MY OWN NAME?<

It is not, not at all. In his first post Demosthenes pointed out that he was responding not to Jeanne-Marie's post, but to an article on her blog on an unrelated subject. Perhaps he should host his own blog to rebut hers, rather than filling the page here with things not on topic for this thread.

Mountain Rose
The problem with those sissy boys who want either a nurse or a purse is that we women have already figured out that they don't add anything to our lives. Just like most of the men our age, we can get the young stuff with that immortal pick-up line "I have a Platinum Visa card and a Lamborghini."

=================

As far as cop killers go, in the Old Neighbourhood (think Carmine Persichetti) there was this cure called "Shot while trying to escape."

Mike, just a little bias?
Did Mike actually care to report both sides of this crime? Or did any of you TH posters that are ready to push the button read up on this trial?

Since I'm sure most of you are too lazy to do any reading yourself, then I'll point out some issues... (they're readily available on wikipedia)

Those 4 eyewitnesses for the prosecution?
Robert Chobert, supposedly he was asking the prosecution what he could do to get his taxicab privileges back.
Cynthia White, prostitute that supposedly told another inmate that she made up the story out of fear for the police.
Michael Scanlon, admitted to being under the influence of alcohol
Albert Magilton, admitted that he did not see any of the shootings.

The 2 witnesses to Jamal's outbursts in the hospital... a security guard and a police officer. Hardly unbiased witnesses. Plus, the doctors have said they do not see how Jamal would have been able to say anything under the condition he was in. The police officer that took Jamal to the hospital stated that Jamal made no comments at all.

I'm not saying that he's guilty or innocent, but it definitely is not as clear cut as you would like to believe. And definitely not "one of the most open and shut murder cases in the history of the city of Philadelphia", as Mike would like you to believe.

Shameful column Mike.

Syler Go Eff yourself
Your another liberal scumbag not worthy of acknowledgment. You are the only shameful P O S that is here to question a guilty verdict. Why don't you go help OJ find the real killers of Nicole and Ron.

Merry Secular Crap to you, Chuck

Syler Wickipedia????? R U kidding me
You are probably the editor in chief of that POS online cesspool. You probably use People magazine for other research. Did you know that the father of the Founder of Move On.org started Wikkkipedia?????

syler, Bleeding Heart Liberal
Bleeding Heart, You are right. There is much more to this story than has been told here. You need to read the rest of it. It is very clear to anyone doing even modest research that Mike is right.

syler, please don't use Wikipedia to make your point. If you haven't heard, it is notoriously inaccurate, skewed, and at the very least, filled with questionable research. For you to claim that TH posters didn't read up on this is out of line. It seems that you are the one that needs to do more reading.

If you want to know the truth, read the newspaper accounts. Don't rely on what you hear from Hollywood, MOVE, or Wikipedia.

AudiR10- Nurse or Purse?

If Jessie Jackson's mother was driving opposite Cooks brother vehicle and got killed (you get the picture). I support Black culture in the Arts and am very dismayed that the pride Black people represent there is very opposite to thinking shooting someone in the back is justifiable. Especially someone who was actually preventing a possible deadly accident. It also irritates me very deeply that the message I get from Black people in the media is one of disrespect for the law. This is the kind of stance that makes me ashamed of being a liberal. I think this pro Abu-Jamal movement would make a good chapter in the science of memetics. Liberals are infected with a virus . Abu-Jamal - I'm ashamed of you!!
