Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Two themes that have run through this broadcaster’s nearly-30 year career in talk radio have been: 1) why conservatives are drawn to talk radio; and 2) the obvious liberal bias in the mainstream news media.

It took a “journalist” like David Shuster this week on MSNBC to demonstrate why people are so sickened by the behavior of so-called objective members of the news media, resulting in the continual migration to talk radio as a way for people to become better informed and hear both sides of an issue.

The stunt that Shuster pulled was astoundingly vulgar and eventually backfired in stunning fashion. Filling in for Tucker Carlson, the bow-tied conservative, Shuster’s invited guest was a Republican Congresswoman from Tennessee, Rep. Marsha Blackburn. The announced topic was the ongoing outrage over the Moveon.Org ad in the New York Times that referred to General Petraeus as a traitor.

Shuster, a political reporter (not a talk show host) was evidently agitated by Rep. Blackburn’s measured and responsible condemnation of the vicious ad. In the middle of the interview, he suddenly decided to go for the jugular and attack her by using a brave, dead soldier as his weapon. “You represent a district in western Tennessee”, Shuster snarled. “What was the name of the last soldier from your district who was killed in Iraq?”

Now remember, the subject of the MSNBC segment had absolutely nothing to do with how knowledgeable an elected representative was about the name of the most recent war casualty in her district. MSNBC invited her on to discuss the controversial Moveon.Org newspaper ad. Shuster knew the congresswoman likely wouldn’t know that name when he triumphantly crowed, “Ok, his name was Jeremy Bohannon. He was killed August the ninth, 2007. How come you didn’t know the name?” he demanded.

The only problem is that David Shuster didn’t know the name, either. It turns out he was flat wrong. Army Private Bohannon didn’t live in Rep. Blackburn’s district, he lived in a neighboring district represented by John Tanner, a Democrat.

Talk about karma. Occasionally, one of the bad guys gets exactly what he deserves. In David Shuster’s slimy effort to use a fallen soldier to try and make a decent conservative look bad on national TV, he embarrassed himself well beyond anything he managed to do to Congresswoman Blackburn.

It must be have been pretty painful for Shuster when he sheepishly appeared on a subsequent MSNBC show to make a public apology for his asinine behavior. “I identified who I believed to be that fallen soldier, a Tennessean killed in Iraq last month. But according to Pentagon documents, that young man came from a town inside a neighboring district…and for that, I apologize for that mistake”, Shuster said.

What a jerk.

I was told that prior to his public apology, Shuster went on a liberal talk radio show and he and the host were chortling and guffawing together over the “gotcha” interview he conducted with Rep. Blackburn. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

I’ll bet David Shuster isn’t giggling now.

It’s important to consider this incident when watching NBC, CBS, ABC or any of the other mainstream news media outlets. Talk radio hosts like me and a cable network like Fox News Channel are constantly criticized for what liberals claim is a “right-wing bias.”

None of us who host talk shows on radio or TV pretend to be objective journalists. We are paid to express our opinions and delve into political and social issues with our listeners and viewers.

But a guy like David Shuster is supposed to a newsman. A journalist. A reporter. And these are the kind of clowns who inject their prejudices into their newscasts and newspaper articles every single day.

Next time you see Shuster’s smirk on TV, remember the reprehensible smear tactics he used this week.

Now that David Shuster’s TV career has taken such an ugly turn, perhaps he could land a job with Moveon.org.

Sitting in his basement blogging in his bathrobe is exactly where he belongs.

That was a disgrace. Didn't see the apology.

But the attack was beyond belief. And she remained 3/c all the way.

Question

"I was told that prior to his public apology, Shuster went on a liberal talk radio show and he and the host were chortling and guffawing together over the “gotcha” interview he conducted with Rep. Blackburn. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit."

What surprises me is there is a "liberal talk show". They usually don't last a month in any market.

Makes me question the entire column:-)

Besides the "asenine" behavior, I avoid
watching the MSM because I can't afford to buy a new TV.

You see, every time I watch a jerk like Olberman or Matthews, or some Leftie protestor, I am tempted to put my foot throught the screen.

I not only can't bear hearing the obvious hatred and bias against the President and the war, I also can't stand listening to people yelling and interrupting so that there is not a single coherent thought expressed.

I prefer the radio, where there is time to get an entire idea heard, especially when you listen to a good interviewer like Prager or Hewitt.

I think that loud rancor is a cover for the fact that the TV people are aware that their opinions don't hold up in the marketplace of ideas.

Mt rose: exactly why I stopped watching
FOXNEWS. I used to like it, but then it degraded to a lot of yelling.
Besides, a majority of the hosts ARE NOT conservatives, and only nominally republican.

About time one of the shusters got hoisted on his own petard.

A modest proposal
I don't suppose it occurred to any of you people that if Rep. Blackburn had a clue as to the most recent Iraq casualty in her district, she could have corrected Shuster?

Instead, the Stepford Wife stared blankly and stammered in a way that can best be described as Bushian.

Mission Accomplished.

It didn't backfire
Marsha Blackburn couldn't tell the bname of the soldier. She couldn't tell the name of any soldier that has dies in her district. Shuster showed the total hypocroisy of Blackburn and how she is as indifferent as other repugnants to the people they get killed daily in Iraq.

Faux News, that is usre an example of "fair and balanced" reposrting. But then Republicans want to news to be turned into GOP propaganda, but like PRavda was in Soviet Union.

GOP and people ike Glalaggher don't believe in the freedom of the press, they want a bunch of trained monkesy that spread right wing propaganda and call it "news". Well you have Faux News and all the small Goebbelses there.

Van use spell-check, por favor
Geez were you drunk when you typed that? None of it would make sense even if you were the national spelling champion.

The only way you could embarrass yourself more is if "a bunch of trained monkesy" hacked it out and you signed your name to it. Honestly, that's probably what happened anyway.

Good luck trying to get through the rest of your life.

SoothSayer and Van
Congratulations, you made the Shill Hall of Fame. Click on my name to see my townhall blog.

(Van- does Soros dock you for misspellings? Just asking.)

Van
Please take a moment to settle down and use your spell checker, your post looks like a 5 year old did it. And, talk about trained monkeys, what would you call David Shuster? Maybe it would just be best if you concentrated on going to liberal blogs, where your rants will be welcome. To you, freedom of the press means having all the usual liberal trained monkeys on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNBC, MSNBC, etc. parrot each other to put out the liberal line. You can't seriously think that having one semi-conservative channel like Fox can be compared to all the other channels in scope.

FOUND - Pic of Van at his computer

Why would I bother?
The discussion here doesn't exactly require the use of spell check.

David Shuster showed the hypocrisy of Marsha Blackburn and thet's got you all riled up. The manufactures outrage over this newspaper ad was created intentionally to shift focus form the young men and women you dsend to die for nothing. For useless war. And Marsha Blackburns don't even care to find out who of her voters she sent to die.

Shuster showed clearly to indifference of Repugnants toward to real people they get killed every day. No wonder Blackburn and Gallagher are screaming bloody murder.

Maybe Blackburn should stick with Faux News where Republican talking points go unchalleneged if she can't take the heat from a real journalist.

This has become a pattern of late:every time conservative shows his or her true colors and idiotism in News Media, they blame MSM for conspiracy. It's never their won fault.

TRUTH IS THAT BLACKBURN DIDN'T KNOW THE NAME. Because she doesn't care.

Frank - You were wrong, I guess
Van makes no more sense even if he spell checks. It is simply a ridiculous argument. I wonder how many Democrats in Congress can name the last person killed in Iraq from their district.

Van, man, you hate Fox News because like most partisans, you can't handle the truth. You don't want to hear the other side. You can't stand to hear the other side, because your position is not based on logic. It is based only on the irrational, emotional garbage fed to you by the MSM, lefties and Democrats who want to win elections by making the President, and the country, if necessary, look bad.

Forget the spell checker, you need a new logic board!

gretske
The other side of truth is a lie. And that's what Faux News is for: GOP spin. Not Trith, but GOP interretation of the facts.

And democrats don't need to do anything to make President or GOP look bad, they're both very capable of doing it by themselves. And same goes for USA and what conservatives have done to it.

Van -
You can't handle the "Trith"!

Does It Really Matter Though
Yeah Shuster apologized on some later talking points show but it doesn't matter. The media snake oil machine has already packaged and printed their version of the events and that is what really matters because the public, for the most part, are content in their little worlds watching life through the 25 inch peephole into paradise cheering on their side of life as if it's just another sporting event. Unfortunately for the real world, the MSM has caught onto this malaise and can now bask in it's ideologic venality, regurgitating their prefabricated talking points as news to be lapped up by their viewership faster than that last can of Spaghettios.

Remember: There has to be a mind there to change in the first place if your intent is to change minds

idiot van
Hey van
i know the names of hundreds of guys killed in iraq because I knew them personally. The only reason that idiot shuster thought he knew it is because he looked it up. The point was he was deflecting attention away from an ad that was denigrating the leader of our troops in Iraq. Anyone can do what he did. She was invited on the show to specifically talk about the Soros.org ad, not the casualty numbers in Iraq. He intentionally ambushed her in an attempt to make her look stupid on "national" tv. Pmsnbc isn't really national, there were only probably about 4000 people watching anyway. The guys a jerk and needs to get a life. Oh well, he embarrassed himself for our entertainment and so did you, so I guess we can't complain; or should I say khommplane?

Aw Van
It isn't your dyslexia that's so sad; it's your unreasonable hatred of common sense (and perhaps, stupidity). Oh well, keep pluggin'.

DYLEXICS OF THE WORLD UNTIE!

Shuster
This just proves that Liberalism is a brain disorder.

How can any group of people use lies and distortion to destroy their fellow American because they happen to disagree with them?

This is not what America is about and never was.
Liberalism or Socialism has nothing to do with individual freedom...It has everything to do with dictatorship by a few.

Van
dyslexic... . Sorry about that. Seems to me though you were losing the debate and like David Shuster you decided to change the subject in mid stream. Maybe that is why you agree with him. When losing start another front. My grandson is dyslexic and the whole family insists that he not use his disability as a cover up for personal failure. Perhaps you need to learn the same lesson

David Who?
I could get excited about this if I actually knew who David Shuster is. If Tucker isn't doing the show, I change channels to Britt Hume.

Big business
I don't watch any politics because it is a waste of valuable time and in a one party system MoveOn is about the only substantive thing they can come up with.

Therefore I assume Schuster was vehemently against MoveOn because it was the political arm of one of the wealthiest business tycoons and lefties hate business and more so tycoons buying political discourse. I assume Blackburn was fawning all over MoveOn because she represents the party in the pocket of the rich.

Shuster one of many

He is in the same category as those who accused Juan Williams of being a "happy Negro" (uttered by a black TV talking head) because Williams had the audacity to say that some comments uttered by Bill O Reilly were not racists. Mediamatters made the original charge and was repeated by CNN et al.

This latest episode by the MSM to
that the pol SHOULD have known the answer. They did this same thing with Bush back in the run up to the 2000 election by asking him who the leaders of 3 little known nations were (yes one was Pakistan). Now the average Lamocrat couldn’t have picked these nations from a map but Bush was supposed to know who their leaders were. ALL pols should have a "standard" retort for such questions. Something like "I’ll answer that when you tell me…". That will guarantee that that part of the interview will never be used.

This is typical "ambush" journalism that has replaced real journalism. You see, real journalism requires work to research a topic and produce meaningful questions. Also, even if the journalist is willing to do the work, the Network or the Newspaper has got to be willing to pay them and give them time to do the work.

We also see the papers like the New Traitor Times cutting back on reporters and overhead due to failing sales, but here the reason isn’t that they haven’t provided the resources for the Reporters, but that the paper’s owners have stacked the paper to guarantee that all the articles are wholly liberal. Since the majority of the country disagrees with that paper sales will fall. Hey Newspapers, I have the same advice for you that I give the actors and musicians who get into partisan politics, when you take sides at least half the public will no longer be your customer.

A good news organization does NOT take sides. Partisan hacks are limited to the editorial page and the editorial page is limited to ONE page.

And lastly, Fox News is NOT conservative! Some of the editorial type commentators are Republican Bush supporters like Fred Barns, but they are not conservative. Also, you do NOT see Fred Barns reading the news either.

Van ain't fooling me!
He is really Loyal Democrat! There Van,I blew your cover.

MDA: Mothers Against Dyslexia.

Van
Chopper John: You gave me a good laugh! I will think about this line throughout the day.

"DYLEXICS OF THE WORLD UNTIE!"

Making fun
sbout someone's disability is obviously conservative value. Goes well with tenndency of bullying, alss prevalent in conservative circles.

The truth remains: Blackburn was exposed as a fraud who has no concern or interest toward the lives she is willing to sactifice in this useless war. IN manner of typical conservative she's just talking points and hot air.

Well, if she can't face anythone wlse but GOP sycophants without making a fool of herself, she should only reside in Faux. She would never be challenged there... The GOP Prabda network would allow her to recycle her empty slogans without any challenge whatsoever.

Good job, Shuster. Well done and great journalism.

Van,
I'm not really making fun of your disability, I'm making fun of you. It's not how you say something, it's what you say. I just read another of your posts on a different subject, and you said something like 'US outsources torture' and 'Blackwater employees are paid murderers'. For crap like that, you get zero slack from me.

msnbc
Today on the Chris Matthews show we have 3 guests, 1st from the left Barney Frank , 2nd from the left Dick Durbin and finally from the other side Nancy Pelosi.

What you expected both sides Hah!

p.s if we do have a conservitive on , we will invite the WIFE of a guy running for president to call her out for being mean. Preferably a wife that has cancer.

Van, If you can't take the heat, get out
the kitchen: You call Fox News conservative. Not by a long shot. Most of the people working at Fox News are left of center. With all of the one sided garbage coming out of the MSM, it's really too bad there isn't one conservative TV channel.

It is really too bad
Too bad she didn't know his name so she could shove it down this guys throat. I wouldn't know the name of the closest soldier to die where I live either and neither would most of you. Absolutely does not mean we don't care and anyone who thinks it does, is a complete idiot!

Van writes:

"It didn't backfire..."

Wow, Van runs out of substance in just 3 words. Might be a record!

Chopper John
Then feel free to disagree with my posts and not make fun of my disability.

And Blackwater is private mercenary army that is allowed to roam freely without any danger of consequences in Iraq.

USA has outsourced torture (you know about renditions, don't you?) and now it's outsourcxing vioelnce to private companies. Great going...

And you think that faux news is not far right enough.... the next step would be hiring Goebbels.

Van: Know what? You're right!

That ol' Blackburn probably doesn't even know the names of the last four or five soldiers who were killed in Iraq who came from my state, PA!!

And, no doubt, she doens't know the names of the last two or three soldiers killed in Iraq where were from NC either. Yup, what a ditz!

Get it, Van??? You're as much of an idiot as Schuster and the rest of the reprobates on MSNBC, CBS, CNN, etc., etc.

Dyslexics
do not type "to" for "the." That is what happens when someone is angry and hitting the keys randomly. AND, not thinking well!

I've taken courses in tutoring learning disabled. Dyslexics often reverse letters, even in speaking.

If Van is dyslexic, he obviously has other problems as well.

I'm sorry Van,
I still can't understand what you are saying. And did you spell Fox 'faux' on purpose or, you know, was it a whoopsie?

Shuster won I say, there was no backfire
Don't make fun of me, don't pick on Britney, leave her alone! waaaaaa!

Do it again Shuster we are winning, waaaa....

Van - I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she left me before we met.

Going to funerals
I would have much more respect for the progressives/liberals/leftists (or whatever they call themselves these days) calling for an end to American deaths in Iraq if they had the same outrage for children being murdered in this country.

There are about 800 children under 14 years old murdered in the USA each year and another 800 between the ages of 14 and 17 also murdered.

Check it at the Department of Justice website http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/tables/vagetab.htm

By the way, the number of murdered children were higher prior to President Bush taking over and also by the way, the children did not volunteer to put themselves in harm's way.

Not her job
It's not my Representative's job to know my name if I die a normal combat death.

If it happens under particularly heroic or ignoble circumstances, then yeah, OK. But there's a difference between sacrifice and notoriety, and simply dying in combat is no reason to make someone famous.

I don't want to be known for dying if I wouldn't have been known for living...so go stuff it, Van.

van
It's 8:40 AM EDT If you can, post the name of the last soldier from ypur Congerssional district to die in action. You have until 8:42 or your entire point will be exposed as fraudulent.

All Media Has failed Us
Picking on the liberal MSM or conservative talk radio is really dealing with symptons, not the problem.

In a democratic society with free political speech and objective reporting of news necessary for an informed citizens to make intelligent decisions, all the media fails us.

The Media today is owned by corporations that seek profit. These same corporations own many news outlets and make large donations to both political parties. They use thier media outlets to promote their interets. Example; Sinclair broadcasting owns 67 local news staions. They issued a memoradum that no stations will any commentary against the war in Iraq.

The news must be entertaining. To get people to watch; Use catchy headlines, the ticker tape at the bottom of the screen, and tabloid news all to stir up emotions. They Use commenatry instead of investigaive reporting. It is cheaper. People now confuse commenatry for news.

When watching Fox News or MSNBC, the format is the same, get people to yell at each other.

Talk radio has its own formula for success (profit). Commentary and attacking liberals is red meat for the devotee. Expressing opinions is not news nor objective. But it stirs up emotions.

When reporting news, the media does not help analyze it. They do not put it historical or cultural context.

The example of David Shuster on MSNBC was not the liberal MSM, he was trying to create emotion. Attack the guest. They all do it. MANBC, Hannity, OReilly, Obermann....

VYTORIN CRATS
VYTORIN: If I will never see another ad for Vytorin featuring a slew of the stupidest old goats ever. The only media that carries these ads is the national evening news because the supposed viewers are past tense creatures from the prior century with a supposed advertising craze to get fed more Vytorin. I'm sure Shuster sells Vytorin or needs Vytorin or if it assists bowel movements is Vytorin. Does the New York Times feature full page ads for Vytorin? I'll never know because by the time I will ever need Vytorin the NYT will cease to exist. The bondholders do not take Vytorin and soon will be calling for tight financial controls eliminating the cash dividend which will put Pinch Sutzburger on Vytorin. Punch Sutzburger is already taking Vytorin. None of my talk shows Rush - Sean - Mark sell Vytorin because True Conservative don't need Vytorin. Vytorin works best for Crats with rats when applied to the MoveOn.Org glue trap which this guy Shuster is stuck on.

osthode
And talk about playing the bal instead of player. You need to insult me instead of addressing what I say. Well, teöls more about you than it tells about me.

And I know the name of last guy in my neighborhood who died in Iraq. He lived three blocks away. They are real people to people who live close to them. Not insignificant numbers as they are to congresswoman Blackburn.

Van...
...I am not making fun of uyo...oyu...yuo...

Did anyone but me actually WATCH the seg
I WATCHED THE ENTIRE SHOW!!! Schizter is a jacka$$ for pulling this stunt. He literally turned away from the 'prompter' - which was previously feeding him Tucker's lines, and pulled this out of his butt. Marsha was practically in tears discussing all of the support she gives to our men and women IN combat theater, how she talks with the chaplain from her district all the time, including just the last night before the airing. She talked about the funerals she went to, the families they help and how they have an entire division of her office devoted to caring for them during deployment and in time of tragedy. So if you didn't see the segment and don't know what you are talking about: STFU!

No, that being said - Schuster is known for pulling this BS on every show he subs on, including Olbermann's. This is why I don't watch HardBall anymore, because cHissy is the same way. It's ridiculous, and is doing NOTHING to further the dialogue that we really need to be having in this country. And no, Fox and CNN are just as bad if not worse for they are wolves in sheep's clothing. Face it... the liberal MSM cannot handle the fact that their tactics are FAILING, and so they are resorting to stupid smear tactics, killing off any last shred of credibility they may have had. Case in point: Numbers for the Democratic Debate on MSNBC - 1.4 million viewers. Bill O was on at the same time: 2.8 million. That tells me everything I need to know... Democrats don't care about 2008, they only care about dividing this country and SLAMMING Republicans into the ground.

Let's Make It Universal
I'm not sure why we would expect any Representative or Senator to know the name of the last soldier from their district who has been killed in Iraq (or why we would only be concerned with those killed in Iraq, as if that's the only place we have people serving in the military). While it might be nice if they did, it would hardly serve much purpose.

However, if that is to be the new standard, it would also be nice if it was applied equally to all members of Congress.

Does Ted Kennedy know the name of the last soldier from his district to be killed in Iraq? Does Nancy Pelosi? Does Harry Reid? How about John Kerry? Or Chris Dodd?

I've got $50 that says the answer is no. I've got another $50 that says that the same people upset with Blackburn will say this doesn't matter.

Grow up people. Playing gotcha with other people's lives is about as stupid as you can be.

Cherry Picking
Wow, there's certainly no shortage of Olberman/MSNBC Zombies on this blog!

Fact: MSNBC/Shuster "cherry picked" one Republicican Rep. to embarrass to support their anti-Bush, anti-war, Anti-US, pro-Soros, et al, agenda.

I doubt 1 percent of Representatives could have named the most recent KIA from their district.

If Shuster were objective, he would have had a Demonoid Representaive on as well. And then the A$$ Clown can't even get the soldier's name right!

But that's typical "accuracy in reporting" from MSNBC.......another proud day for the zombies.

Van and dyslexia
Even if you are dyslexic, you can still use a spell and grammatical checker to clean up your comments. I couldn't comprehend all of your left wing notions. But guess what, many of my liberal friends don't see liberal bias in the MSM. On the other hand, I do see Fox News as conservative. Therefore, what does that tell me: that a good number of liberals can only see their side as correct.

hey Van
Fox News becoming popular making you upset?

By the way, a majority of journalists working there still contribute more democrat than republican.

I am still waiting for frothing loons like yourself to point out bias in their NEWS. Before you make a fool of yourself, Hannity and Colmes, O'Reilly, etc are all political commentary.

Maybe people are sick and tired of the MSM's typical left wing idiocy. Or do you think Dan Rather is a right winger?

Back to the article
The lesson here was if you are going to do ambush journalism, do your homework. Schuster gets a D in research (right state, wrong district).

Yes, representatives are too isolated from their constituents. It's been that way for a long time regardless of party.

Van
Van,
You've been exterminated by Moonbat Exterminator. If you really knew the name of the last guy in your neighborhood to die in Iraq you would have posted it in large caps to show how wonderful you are.

Ignore Van
Reading through the comments in this thread, it seemed that more of the posts had to do with Van and less about the substance of the article.

Please everyone, this thread would be a lot shorter and less wasteful of everyone's time if we took Gretske's advice and completely ignored Van. I stopped replying to him a couple weeks ago, and vow never to engage him again.

stedes, corporations?
Their has never been a time when the news has been tainted. Corporations and profit is just another reason added to the myriad of others. People have been motivated by personal beliefs, ambition, fear, greed as well as plain stupidity. No matter how far you go back in history, it's there.

Is it more prevalent then in the past? I believe so there are so many more sources now. Whats good is more people recognize and have the ability to call it out for all to see. Calling it out for all to see was nearly impossible years ago because of the limited number of sources. The good with the bad.

People need to be smart news consumers and educated in understanding the difference between facts and opinions as well as reasoning. People being what they are, you and I know the likely hood of that.

So whats the better answer? More government control on media news sources? Taking profit out? profit isn't the only cause. Profit may sensationalize the news, how mush does it influence opinions of news reporters already admittedly mostly on one side of the political spectrum.

Personally I think the best bet is less government control on speech (i.e. fairness doctrine) Having the government deciding on how much of a political opinion is to much or not enough is sure folly.

People will need to figure who they want to listen to or not. With the each side always calling the other out for their mistakes people will have to make their own choices on the matter. Not a perfect system but, much more preferable then having the government trying to regulating what I'm allowed to hear.

Sorry
There has never been a time when the news has not been tainted.

Mountain Rose
Things may be looking up; did you watch John Gibson on Foxnews a couple days ago?

He was interviewing two talking heads, or at least trying to do so, and when they tried to talk over one another, he cut their mikes and "sent them to bed without any supper."

I too listen mainly to radio talk, but I like to see John Gibson et al. It has always irked me when people are constantly interrupting each other, and I'm glad someone finally had the cojones to cut them off.

Such logic.

Gay conservative

I have no intention to start using spellchecker, thsi site and people here ain't worth the trouble. And I hope that you enjoy the way your conservative buddies derogate you on daily basis. You must be sucker for punishment.

DavidM

Actually it makes me sad. But then people believed that what Goebbels or Pravda told them was news too... Faux News is not journalism. it's about republican spin. Corrupted to the core like everything conservatives touch.

Van
"Repugnants" "Faux News"

Wow. 10 out of 10 for originality! Really, if you are going to call others "trained monkeys," please show a little originality and stop being one yourself.

BTW, the point of the column is that an "objective" reporter swerved way off topic to take a cheap shot at a conservative. Of course, you are a liberal and we understand your reading comprehension is in the toilet.

Countryman
Cavuto did that, NOT Gibson.

Countryman,
I agree with your Ignore Van post and will try to comply. But he is fun to play with.

gretske-5:05am
OK. I laughed out loud with that one. Thanks.

Thank you Van
Please don't ever stop writing. Your ideological rants taken straight from the MoveOn.org playbook do more to reveal the lazy intellectual thinking the dominates what passes for a liberal these days than anything a conservative can say or write. I look forward to more of your dazzling revelations.

Chopper John
Agreed. Unfortuneately, stupid people are blissfully ignorant of how dumb they really are.

AreDNmYheaD
I think the influence of corporations is greater than you realize.

General Electric owns NBC. General Electric is major Supplier to the US Military. Disney Owns ABC and Viacom owns CBS.

These companies are major campaign contributors to politicans. They will not challange the status quo. They do not want to risk their business interests. Sure individual reporters may have a bias, but in the end, they do not challange the mainstream. The fact that the majority of democrates went along with this war, so did the media. The media only started to challenge the war when the Democrtes did.

Example. In the run up to the Iraq war in 2002/2003, the so called liberal MSM did not challenge the war. They all got on board. It was rare to hear commentary or a front page article in the NYT or Washington Post challenging the Bush Administration. Supporting the war became objective reporting and challenging the war became bias reporting.

The MSM promoted the military, weaponry and became a mouth piece for the Pentagona and Bush Administration. There was no critical analysis of what was said. CNN went as far as to ask the Pentagon for an approved list of retired military personnel for commentary.

I agree there should not be government control of the press. But there should not be corporate control either. There is too much consolidation of the media. Movies, radio, TV, and other outlets controlled by a few.

Cookie
The topic was war. The journalist just probed the priorities of congresswoman Blackburn. Her priorities are getting namelss youg men killed while bleting about one newspaper ad as if that was the most imposrtant thing about this war.

David Schuster on MSNBC
Not only was he appalling that day, he had the nerve to make disparaging remarks about Fox News and how they are biased! All this while he is showing his liberal leanings.

Doubtless
Gallagher will be equaly outraged by Rush Limbaugh's comments about American soldiers who oppose the current Iraq strategy. "Phony soldiers" wasn't it? Way to go Rush, that's how conservative talk radio supports the troops!!! I am sure everyone here on this Townhall will be just as keen to condemn Rush's words... over to y'all...

Ambush Journalism
Otherwise known as the "cheap shot". I would have been more impressed if the reporter had asked the congresswoman specific questions about a bill that was coming up for vote within a few days time. If she didn’t know the answers to those it would be more meaningful. Like I said earlier, the politicians should have a standard answer for this type of cheap shot question…"I’ll answer that when you tell me what the names of the last 3 people in your….". That will assure that it gets edited out of any news show.

Also, anyone who tries to defend this type of journalism isn’t interested in the truth or in anything other than meaningless partisan gotcha. It really has NOTHING to do with the war or any other topic.

Critical Bill
When will you libs understand the difference between a reporter and a commentator? When Rush goes on the 6:00 news as an anchor and gives slanted news or uses "ambush journalism" you can attack him them.

SoothSayer
You keep up on all the names? Most normal people do not. There is nothing nice about war and contrary to what you lefties like to think, we do not like to sit around and think about it all day. If a brave young person who has died there is close enough when he gets buried here at home, lots of us go and line the streets to pay tribute to them. I can not sit and tell you all their names, but it does not mean I do not respect each of them all the same! What you say is just another attempt at GOTCHA didn't work then, don't work here either.

Also Mike Gallagher says
Next time you see Shuster’s smirk on TV, remember the reprehensible smear tactics he used this week.
What in God's name do you think normal people would be doing watching this Jerk?

Vic
So Rush gets a free pass from you for that comment?

HUNTER 2008!

stedes, They dont have that much control
Going by what you are telling me. Because GE owns NBC they should be leaning pro war because of the profit in arms production. Disney a rather liberal company owning CBS should be a counter to NBC. I am not sure about Viacom.

The problem we run into with this is there are divisions even within GE, Disney and I'm sure Viacom as well. Like you say GE is a supplier to the US Military however NBC definitely slants anti-war as well as CBS and ABC.

You point out the beginning of the war everyone supported it. If you recall the Spanish American War as well as the Mexican American war were fought over much more dubious reasons then our current war. Still everyone (huge majority) in the media and the public still supported the war effort. Only decades later were things seriously questioned.

The democrats were not going to challenge the wave of public opinion. This opinion was formed on the back of 9/11, a single traumatic event. The media got caught up in it as well.

The democrats only changed their minds after public opinion started slipping away from the war. Which of course is pandering, what politicians do best, It is a rare politician who will do what they believe is right even when public opinion is against them. Thats why President Bush, who is not perfect, should get much more respect.

My point is public opinion is not always formed by the media. The media can be swept up in it just as everyone else. It would not of mattered who owned those outlets, unless they had iron control over themselves it was going to happen.

I would also say the media supported Afghanistan not so much Iraq.

And then again, she probably does not have the pull like they do with the media. And you talk about Fox news acting like trained monkeys? Heck Fox could go for years and never catch up on ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, AP, and lots of leftard reporters spewing marxist propaganda! Heck they are still doing it EVERY DAY.
AHHHH TSU sorry I sneezed.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn
I live in Marsha's district and although I have never met her I have heard many interviews with her and I find that she is smart, inciteful and cares about the people she represents. Those that are putting her down probably don't even know anything about her. I would like to know how they would react if they were on TV and were ambushed? Maybe David Shuster needs to do a better job at research. Marsha represents the Nashville area which is in the Central part of Tennessee. By the way I have dyslexia also...I don't use it as an excuse though!

RETSSGT
This is a direct transcript of the conversation in question - you can listen to it for yourself. Doubtless it was taken "out of context", wasn't it? You keep on trying to defend it though, that's supporting the troops!!!

CALLER: No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

justpaul
In all fairness, Ted is prolly to loaded to know his name, let alone the name of any last person to be killed in Iraq. I say ask harry (i give up without a fight) reid, or nancy (i need a bigger jet to carry my ego) peolsi.

It is not even a clear question
Does this mean:

The last kid who graduated from the local high school to die, even if he moved out of state before enlisting?

Or

The last adult child of a couple who just moved into your district who died?

Or

The last 30 year veteran police officer who everyone knows is obviously from the district?

Or

The last soldier to be buried in a cemetery in the district you represent?

Point being, if I were in her position I would be very careful how I answered that question because I think it is a bogus question.

The real question is "Do you value every soldier who has sacrificed for this country?" which I assume Rep. Blackburn does.

What I find interesting is that the left only seem to value soldiers' sacrifices for political leverage.

Stick it to them, Van!
The cons hate u. That's good!

Critical Bill
The problem you are running into is that people like john kerry (you know the one that was in Vietnam) Actually did use phony soldiers in congressional hearings. So if Rush thinks some lefty is pulling out phony soldier to give his argument some credence Rush has history on his side. There has also been a number of people with anti-war rants that have made the major media who claimed to be soldiers and turned out not to be soldiers (phonies).

AreDNmYheaD
Ha ha ha ha ha you keep it going. You keep on defending Rush. Absolutely desperate. I'll give you some context - the caller was talking about soldiers who have criticised the war while serving and Rush called them phony soldiers. That's the long and short of it. Jon Soltz of VoteVets has offered to go on rush's show to let him explain his comments to a soldiers' face. Let's see if the boil on his yellow *ss gets him out of that too...

Critical Bill
I would have to hear the whole context. Did he mean soldiers that were "manufactured" like the AP does? Did he mean real soldiers who comment on actions that they were not involved in but say they were (Scott Thomas Beauchamp)? There are a lot of ways to be phoney.

And still Rush is NOT a journalist. If a political commentator like Ariana Huffington lies, it is one degree of lie. If a reporter lies it is another. But, that isn't whaty this article is about.

cat1
funny you are the only one I have seen use that word on here today, maybe I missed something. I will go back and look again.

What's Denial like?
I don't even know where it is, but you guys are obviously living there. Weather any good? mimserable here at the moment, but I guess it's better than the weather in Iraq! I must visit some time.
There can be no denying the context of what Limbaugh said - those who disagree with his or this administration's interpretation of events in Iraq and the pursuit of this failed policy are "phony soldiers". If you read the entire transcript of the conversation or listen to it, as I have done, it cannot be interpreted in any other way. It was not a conversation about people masquerading as soldiers, it was not a conversation about manufactured soldiers being used by liberals. It was directed at those men and women serving who do not agree with him. It's as plain as the boil on his *ss. RETSSGT - you only hear what you want to hear. Maybe if you opened your mind a little you might get a better idea of what is going on around you.

Vic
You're right, my mistake; Cavuto cut the mikes.
I guess I was thinking one when I meant the other, as Gibson commented on it the next day.

C Bill
Put your wacko stick away its over.

Thanks to EIB:
"CALLER: No, it's not. And what's really funny is they never talk to real soldiers. They pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and spout to the media.

RUSH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER: Phony soldiers. If you talk to any real soldier and they're proud to serve, they want to be over in Iraq, they understand their sacrifice and they're willing to sacrifice for the country."

As you can see by READING, the caller reference soldiers pulled up out of the blue hence the term phony soldiers. Rush wants him to elaborate on the term phony soldier. Then the caller explains what he meant by it.

Twist it all you want but remember you have to twist it to make it mean what you want it to.

Shuster ambush 'journalism'
One has to wonder if Shuster has ever asked an anti-war congressman (uh, I mean congressperson) if they know the name of the last soldier killed in Iraq in their district. After all, they’re the ones who claim to be soooooo concerned about our troops, who want them to have more time at home before deployment to Iraq, who want them to have the “right” equipment but link the funds to withdrawal dates which assure defeat of the bills, and who accept as fact every accusation of atrocities before hearing any evidence. But Shuster’s memo really says it all, he admits to ambush journalism and that his only purpose was to show up a Republican as hypocritical … in his view, that is, as a self-appointed later day Torquemada. Not exactly impartial, detached objectivity. Way to go, Shuster! He also says that the soldier’s name really wasn’t important, the soldier who gave his last full measure of devotion to defend, among other things, freedom of the press. As I said, way to go Shuster. You really are a genuine liberal.

Okay I am laughing
AT YOU idiotic liberals. So you think this kind of reporting is okay? Bet you won't when it is issue that you are on the opposite side of. If you watch the news to play gotcha instead of being informed you are a certified mental midget.

If you don't see anything wrong with what Schuster did then you do not have any idea between right wrong. Everyone should lock up their children then.

Gee and we wonder why we keep seeing more and more heinous crimes? Perhaps because we have a society that is ever increasingly clueless.

nonsense
Can't be bothered to spell your name out... at no point does the caller say anything about soldiers who are not real. He merely mentions soldiers who have come up out of the blue - what on earth does that mean? I would not interpret that as meaning non-soldiers masquerading as real soldiers. That is an explicit charge. In the context of the entire conversation, Limbaugh is clear in his meaning - any soldier who does not tow the line is a phony soldier. Like he is in a position to judge any real soldier, that yellow drug addict.

Cavuto cut the mike, NOT because of

WHAT they were saying, but because they were SHOUTING and talking OVER each other...

He should have done it a long time before

Nutjob Van
Van writes: "Blackburn doesn't know the people who she has sent to die...."

I am so tired of this asinine antiwar nutjob BS. The United States does not sent its servicemembers anywhere to die. It sends them to perform a mission and provides them with the best training and support available to a) complete the mission, and b) stay alive and well while doing it.
This stupid statement is equivalent to saying that we send firemen to fires to die. Yes, some die, but that's not why we send them.
Hey, Van, do you know the name of the last firefighter in your town who died fighting a fire? No? Then we better stop sending them to fires.

Van
The fact is that Schuster was wrong about what he said.

I respect the vets from that website for what they have been through and they have a right to speak their beliefs, BUT why gripe about something when you knew facts before signing up? The ones who really get my goat tho' are the ones refusing to go and say something stupid like I joined for the GI bill to get an education, not to fight! Now how asinine is that statement? Rush has a right to his opinion and he is a political commentator not a reporter. But I think he would make a lot better one than David Shuster, but then, even that chained monkey at a typewriter could do a better job.

AGREED 100% spot on!

And, OF COURSE, Van goes off on a

stupid liberal "get off the real subject" tangent to avoid the REAL POINT which was Shuster's "gottcha" journalism.

Shuster's only goal was to make Blackburn look bad! News had nothing to do with Shusters agenda or interview... it was how he could make any Conservative look silly.

And, this is almost nothing compared to what CNN, MSNBC (Abrams) have been trying to do to O'Reilly and Juan Williams.

It's Okay to Lie
Yes, to Liberals or Progressives as it is to Communist, Fascist, & Socialist, and according to Karl Marx's Handbook - Lying & Misrepresenting the facts are acceptable, if it accomplishes or furthers yourself to your goals.
So know we know why we can't trust these Liberal Socialist Posters such as Van and others and why we can't Trust the MSM and why we can't trust Democrats either. If you look at the Democrats (whom I like to refer to as DEMONRATS)Agenda and recent actions in Congress - you can easily determine that they are America's Greatest Threat and America's Greatest Enemy of Today. Van and other Parrot Heads are the result of Academia and the Indoctrination that we have allowed to go on within our Universities and Schools where Liberals control about 90% or more of the Administrators & Educators, where they limit honest discusssion and debate or outright prevent it. The Silent Majority had better WAKE UP. Socialist Commies now control the MSM, Academia, too much of our Courts, Congress in both the House & Senate, and are looking to take over control of the POTUS and the Supreme Court. It might be too late to save ourselves at the ballot, maybe the Citizens Militia & our Military will save us.

Van
Hey Van, if you hate this country so much, why don't you move to a communist country, like Cuba where you can be with your own? Don't use your disability as an excuse for your ignorance. You libs can dish it out, but you can't take it. I don't EVER see libs admit they are wrong. So admit you are wrong and go away!

Practice What You Preach

mental faux pas
I'm not making fun of any disability you might have, Van -- just your inability to reason, your mental faux pas. By the way, O'Reilly's on again tonight at 8 on FOX -- it's fair and balanced. But you'll probably be on-line at that cattle-call site called Moooooo-On.

Critical Bill and you other liberals.
Get over yourselves. Jessie MacBeth was the phony soldier in question. He washed out of the army in 44 days...never was an army ranger as he claimed, never saw combat as he claimed, never won a purple heart as he claimed, and never ever witnessed the atrocities by our military that the left trumpeted without once trying to check the facts of his story. They were so deliriously giddy at having a real soldier turn on his own military, the truth got shoved under the rug.

They did the same thing with another guy, one who actually did serve. Scott Thomas wrote a number of stories from Iraq, detailing atrocities by members of our military against Iraqi civilians. It turned out they were all phony stories, but that didn't deter the left from going overboard. When the truth got out about Scott Thomas, the left conveniently discovered some other strawman to distract the public.

When Rush Limbaugh points out these phonies, the left wing, instead of directing their ire at the perps, turn on Limbaugh, accusing him of anti-military comments.

Liberals should get a life.

Stupid Miller and Tokyo Roads
I am surprised to read that so many of you listen to Conservative Talk radio, and shun the Hate American Radio Network, and the few others of that bent.

You know that since all the Libs know everything that Rush and his buddies say, they must listen carefully. Did it ever dawn on you that the most excited listeners, the ones who would not miss a beat, are those like Media-Matters, etc., who hang on every word they speak.

About the only time I listen to the radio is in the afternoon when I run an errand, or take my daily walk (at my age, I wish I could just walk downhill, then get a ride home), and when I wake up in the morning and feel like lying there for a few minutes.

When I awake I have the privilege of listening to the golden tones of the Stupid Miller harangue, or if I want to wake up in a good mood, I listen to Laura I for a few minutes. During my afternoon walk, I have the chance to listen to Tokyo Roads, I mean Rutty Roads, on the Hate America Network. Then sometimes as I go to sleep I turn on Manno, or whatever her name is.

Now the reason I listen to them comes under the heading of “Know the Enemy.” If I listen to Rush or Bennett, Dennis, or the various Michael's, it’s like talking to the mirror.

I must find how they are able to examine my mind, so they know exactly what to say on most, but not all subjects.

Hey , Shuster
Next time you talk to Sen. Kennedy, ask him if he knows the name of the woman he killed. Next time you talk to Sen. Kerry, ask him the names of the US soldiers who died after his lying testimony to Congress where he falsely accused the US Military of widespread crimes against Humanity. Next time you talk to Hillary, ask her if Bill's advice to the woman he had just raped (Juanita Brodrick), namely "Just put some ice on that", really worked.

jim
I agree with your statement concerning liberal radio. My problem is that I can't get it where I am, and I'm not about to get satellite radio. Too rich for my blood.

Did Bill tell Hill????

I’ve often wondered how Bubba Clinton knew to tell a woman that. Since I have never heard of his medical education, he must have learned this from women he raped at other times, or perhaps, Hilly told him that, as a result of her experiences.

I can’t imagine Bill ever telling Hill that as a result of their interaction.

RETSSGT, Anne
Who is the mark today? I know Robert is easy, as is Van. How about doing Shuster every so often? As for this example of bias, it's not the first time. Rush is the most listened-to radio personality, so naturally the media will go after him. As far as Tucker Carlson's show, it doesn't get the ratings that O'Reilly, H&C, Van Susteren, or Geraldo gets. They tried to get ratings, and ended up embarrasing themselves.

Shuster
False but accurate

To Van & his loyal supporters
To use your logic, it follows that:
1) each Congressman should be able to instantly recite the name of the most recent KIA is his/her district;
2) each Governor should be able to instantly recite the name of the most recent KIAs in each district of his state; and
3) the POTUS should be able to instantly recite the name of the most recent KIAs in each district of each state in the Union.

You should read James's post of 8:41AM over and over again - he has it right on the money, and I believe
each and every one of us who have seen combat will agree. You're simply out of your depth Van (et al).

theta-sigma
One thing is for sure: Shuster just placed himself in the crosshairs. I for one will be watching him closely from now on. Attacks like these should not enter the journalistic forum, but be restricted to the halls of opinion.

Shuster
Powdered soap? I only use soap-on-a-rope.

Van
Okay. You say tht Blackburn doesn't CARE because she didn't know a name of a soldier killed in the war. How many names do you know? Do you check the death toll every day? When is the last time you did anything to make people aware of how much you CARE? What Nonesence.

Arent you all riled up

MSNBC More Balance Than Fox News
MSNBC has Scarborough and Carlson representing convervative views and Matthews and Olbermann representing liberal views. Fox New is all conservative all of the time except for Alan Colmes who is more of a moderate. Talk radio is almost all conservative. The media in general is more conservative than liberal because of the power of large corporations to control what is said and when it is said. Conservatives love to set up the media as strawman to take cheap shots at as a diversion, but it just isn't true anymore. As others have stated, just look at the cheerleading that went on by all the media to take us to war in Iraq. That was truly a joke.

Shuster is not a journalist
Right after the "Dean scream" Shuster got on Hardball and announced (I'm loosely paraphrasing) that 'the 'journalists' didn't like Dean and they took him down.' It was a moment of unguarded crystal clarity from our leftist media. 1) They think they know better than all of us, especially the 'unwashed masses' in the center of the country and 2) They think that since they 'know best' it justifies any behavior to achieve the results they know to be the best. They knew Dean was voicing what they truly believe and would never get elected, so they withdrew their support in favor of Kerry, hoping that his three months of viet nam service, with confirming video tape and multiple medals would hoodwink the public just long enough to get him in the White House. What Gallagher is revealing is more of the same - Shuster doesn't give a rat's behind for any soldier, unless he can use one as a bludgeon to slam the right.

My left side is more photogenic

I am surprised that some of them have not fallen back on their newest tactic; if you are so much for this war go join up, or I knew a guy who was 110 and was still serving; or you talk but you have never served. But when I offer to match my DD 214 with theirs or, my Honorable Discharge, I never get taken up on it. Now I wonder why that is? I do catch him now and then, and I was pleased that he shut up long enough for Juan Williams to express his justifiable anger over being called a 'smiling Negro' by some Black talking head the other day.

Hannity and Colmes is okay sometimes, but (even though I agree with much of Hannity's sentiments) I cannot STAND to listen to him. He makes Colmes look like the calm and reasonable nice guy in comparison (even though I DON'T agree with much of Alan's sentiments)...It's like watching a schizophrenic show...He who screeches the loudest or makes the most pronouncements wins. Yech!

Having said that, the other channels are even worse, so what are we left with? Bias no matter where you look.

At least O'Reilly and H&C don't claim to be anything other than opinions...So for that you get what you get.

A poster above wrote, "I agree there should not be government control of the press. But there should not be corporate control either. There is too much consolidation of the media. Movies, radio, TV, and other outlets controlled by a few."

What Shuster did was discusting and is indicative of what you libs have to stoop to. By the way can you name all the people in the US who have been killed by illegal aliens since you seem to support unrestricted immigration as well?

RETSSGT
How funny. have you enjoyed enough making fun of my disanility? Does it make you more of a man? Do you kick also people with physical disabilities just for fun?

Tells everything there is to know what kind of person you are.

In't it insteresting thet people who scream about ambush and unfairness find it most enjoyable to mock the spelling of my posts?

Like Blacknurn you're just full of hot air. The Moveon ad is more important than the deaths of soldiers in this useless war.You don't even want to know tha names of men you send out to be killed this neocon war.

But maybe you can go to VA:s and amuse yourself by kicking the people with disabilities there... you seem to find so much enjoyment in such activity.

Yet another person who lies so bad and knows so little that it makes it smell bad in here. WE DID NOT LOSE! Just because your kind said after TeT, that we lost meant nothing! GROW UP and GET A CLUE! We hurt them so bad during TeT, if our leaders had a set instead of listening to the likes of john skerry or walter klonkite or you, we could have stormed north and finished the NVA off. Do some research before you run your mouth! It is your kind that quit, and looses wars, not the soldiers!

Yup, you are correct, sir. I did forget Alan Combes, probably because I find him uninteresting. You're pretty good at the sign-offs, too. Keep them coming!

Hey Safe word did you have fun at Waco and Ruby Ridge? Were you cheering on that ogre Janet Reno when the Branch Davidian compound along with all those people burned down? Just like Van and Shuster there is no level below which you people wont sink! People like you are not fit to shine the shoes of a veteran. There is gonna come a time when you will all be whining for your pathetic lives wishing people like Nam and retssgt were there to protect you from your heros Kim, Castro, and Chavez. God help this country if your kind ever gets control.

P.S. who are you calling a baby killer? libtards have killed more babies than Hitler and Stalin combined! google abortion and look at the numbers!

It's Okay to Lie (See Posting -Socialist)

Roberts response: "Of course it is...

this administration certianly did it to the American people."

Robert, if you are referring to George Bush, get a life, he said the same thing Bill & Hillary, Kerry & Gore, & other Senior Democrats, etc. If you are referring to WMD's, again get a life! There were WMD's in Iraq and there is documented proof by our Military. I not happy with Bush regarding somethings, but unlike Clinton, can you demonstrate with credible evidence that he lied - I don't think so, but go ahead, parroting MSM or Moveon.org isn't credible proof. Oh yeah, can you define what "is" is? Can you define what obstruction of justice means, and perjury to a Grand Jury under oath means- this is what Bill Clinton did do, undeniably, and was impeached for it as well. It wasn't about sex, it was about the law. And the Demonrats in the Senate allowed Bill to get away with it. What about teaching your children responsibility and accountability, and respect - those values that really mean something in life.

Is it me or do Van's spelling "mistakes" appear deliberate? Methinks he protests too much.

Just heard Rush explain the comment. Funny how the libs are forever trying to "get" Rush. He's way too smart for them and they can't stand it.

By the way where is Gunny today?

Keep up the sign offs you old geezer!!!

Soothsayer should know better
I dare say that the criticism of the representative's lack of knowledge of the latest casualty in her district is unfounded. Without looking it up ahead of time, could you tell me who the latest casualty is in the congressional district where you live? I doubt it.

Such a question would be tough for anybody, but especially when the anticipated subject of the show where one would appear is entirely unrelated to the question.

You have no traction with your comments here.

So, To Get Back To the Point....
I did appreciate Gallagher giving a run-through of the interchange between Shuster and Blackburn. This obvious "set-up" was just as obviously, as it turned out, poorly researched by Shuster. I heard this interchange referred to for a couple of days but didn't see/hear it first hand. Thanks for the clear-up. I try not to miss that little 15 min. segment weekday evenings at 7:45, "Brit Hume's Special Report" on the Foxnews channel. That is an absolute 5-star discussion segment.

Van
Actually, Van, what's obvious is that you're a pathetic excuse for a student incapable of issuing a singularly critical premise. I'm sure we'll see you ranting on some forum soon about righteousness, too.

If anything, the sad truth is that Shuster's pathetic character assassination points out that the media continues to desire the murder of our troops in order to promote their own careers. Much like when the entire Democratic and Republican parties and the entire U.S. Congress saw no problem with Senator Kerry creating political films in the middle of a war and endangering his own troops to do so. Last time I checked there is no limitation on criminal misuse of U.S. Armed Forces. Yet, no one had a problem with Kerry reconstructing firefights in a war zone for his own personal political films. Media concerned? That would be none.

Well, it's obvious that the only argument you can make is to mock my disability.

Well, enjoy and have your fun. tells only about your lack of character.

Balckburn and other warmongers don't care how many men and women die in this useless war. That's why they don't want to know the names or see the coffins or attend to funerals.

Those bodies were all sacrificed to neocon fantasy. And all this noise has only on e purpose: the hide the fact that this war is colossal mistake, something USA and all western countries will pay for years.

And don't stop making fun of the disabled. it shows what kind of people conservatives are and what their true values are. This thread has taught me something about the conservative mob rule.

But go on, feel free to anjoy your "values"

csgspring
You must have very low expectations from your representatives. I'm assuming you vote republican, so I understand the low standards. Seems these days as long as they're not caught with their pants down they're suitable for the Family Values Party!

I am a lifelong Democrat, and I expect more from my representatives.

Anne
I'm making fun of the subject, Shuster. I figured he won't read the posts here, so I'm safe from being flagged. Speaking of Shuster, what he did was offensive to journalism. Unfortunately, journalists as a whole will give him a pass.

Shuster
Not so hard, George! The chain is going to leave a mark...

soothsayer
"as long as they're not caught with their pants down..."

Are you kidding? First off, the interview had nothing to do with what Shuster sprung on Ms. Blackburn. This is the point of the column. Second, don't start throwing stones. Your party lives in a glass house, too.

soothsayer
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THE PANTS DOWN PARTY I GET IT! You were referring to bill!

HUNTER 2008!

You people just don't get it. Democrats aren't the ones trying to tell people how to lead their lives.

By all means keep right on blaming President Clinton for all your woes... it worked great in the 2006 elections!

msm and the libs/socialists
It looks like they are into full deranged bush syndrome. The missus clinton is acting as thought she is already elected. Liek her husband before her she has reverted to the clinton tactic of tgelling lies as though that behavior will continued to be overlooked. The media is acting as though the dims/socialist have won and that the fairness doctrine is back in place and there will be no penalty for their behavior because their dims partners are running the show. Psychologists maintained that after the 04 bush victory there were overwhelmed with libs seeking counseling for depression over the election results. There is no telling how the libs/socialists will act when the heroine the missus clinton doesn't get elected president. This time psychologists and anti-depressents may not be enough. I would hazzard a guess that many on the left will be under suicide observation to avoid hurting themselves. But then again that may be as violent about the leftists are capable of getting. Too bad.

I don't make fun of the disabled.
And I'm not too humble to tell you why. You see I'm a conservative in the truest sense of the word, and I know instinctively what all conservatives have known since birth, that were we not disabled, we would have cleaned up this rotten world a long, long time ago, possibly during the Crusades.

Hang on, I'll explain. We conservatives, by our very nature, are saddled unfortunately with a huge ball-and-chain which drags on us continuously, hampering our every move. That ball-and-chain, for want of a better description, is called "Liberals."

We have to feed them, (welfare) clothe them, (welfare) fight for them, (their lack of courage) and in general cater to their every need, much like we would a giant baby. As a result, the last war we fought and won was in 1942-45, and by the time Viet Nam came along, the ball-and-chain had been born, and until that baby grows up and moves out of the American house, or gets kicked out, we will never be able to do anything decisive again, without a lot of bawling and diaper changing.

So now you know why I will never make fun of the disabled. I feel their pain.

So, is there one?
It's after 5pm and this thread has gotten pretty long. I haven't read all of it, but nowhere do I see the name of a soldier killed in representative Blackburn's district.

Could it be there hasn't been one?

YLG: You? Flagged? No way!!!!!

Anyone can flag anyone, and it doesn't really mean anything until the TH folks make a determination as to whether or not what you've said is, in fact, offensive.

I don't doubt that there are some lunatic liberal lemmings who just go around flagging GunnyG and a few others, as well as myself.

And, please believe me, I wasn't singling you out. Heck, I've been kind of the worst when it's come to pouncing on roberto... I've been doing it for a long, long, long time, but never as funny as Bman1. My ribs are still hurting...

And, also please believe that I'm a nobody here on TH. I'm right in the middle of the food chain right along with everyone. (The liberals are at the bottom of the food chain... but we knew that! LOL)

Don't confuse him with the truth.
Warren Small says "And that's why we'll never "win" this idiot war: because even the forces themselves have no stomach for it..." WS if you came out of your ideolgically constipated shell and read a little more widely you would have stumbled upon, among others, Micheal Yon http://michaelyon-online.com, an entirely reader sponsored journalist; making him an independant thinker in my mind. He tells a totally different story of the troops perception of what they are fighting for than do the move on talking points spewed by it's mindless syncophants. The only way we will lose this war, and winning is way to important to our very survival and the survival of the Western way of life, is if those who hate America first are allowed to win.

soothsayer
Sure, the dems just want us to have a choice to kill kids, persecute christens, libel our generals, not fund our troops, take our gun rights, yea i can see where libs don't want to tell us how to live.

how can you call those sensitive persons a ball and chain. They are into enabling all they feel superior to. They think that without the guidance so one can accomplish. They consider themselves to be conservs intellectual masters, so why aren't they enabling us to do the things they consider inconsequential anyhow. When you hold others you consider inferior in contempt they tend not to cause real worry. I guess maybe we aren't so inconsequential afterall

And before you go off into "YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT HATE CRIMES!!", save it. ALL crimes are hate crimes in my opinion.

Shuster
The frequency, Kenneth! WHAT'S THE FREQUENCY???

Her Shame still stands
Whether Shuster got the name wrong or not shows that he was perhaps ill-prepared. The fact that Blackburn does not have a clue as to the last person killed in her district is unconscionable. The problem is that we are so busy arguing with each other about stupid things like ads that it takes away our attention as to what we should be focused on. The lives of our soldiers, Our Rights, and the state of our nation (Does anyone realize that China could bankrupt this country if they wanted? Just where does everyone think all the money came from that we borrowed for this astronomical deficit? China could just say they want it all right now and we would be in deep trouble!). WE need to focus on what is important not what the politicians want us to focus on to occupy our minds while we let them destroy the Constitution, Our Civil Rights and Our Country in General.

Stop acting like children!

Anne
No offense given or taken! I love it when you and Bman1 and Gunny get into it with Roberto. I have asked him many questions concerning his occupation and research, but he apparently thinks too little of me to answer. Doc is now killing me with his sign-offs!

I need a moment to myself....CLOSE THAT DOOR!!

By the way...
It turns out Bohannon lived in Bon Aqua, TN in the months immediately prior to entering the Army. The Census Bureau places his home in Blackburn’s 7th Congressional District.

I'm sure all the neocon kooks will be issuing apologies to David Shuster all weekend long.

Greetings Anne, YLG, Wildwest,
Seeing you all in the fray delights this weary old heart no end. I do believe, my dear friends, that someone, or something, by the nom de plume of safe sex, er sorry, safe word addressed me, did he not?

Could it be, and if it is, the former YSP, TCA, Censored, and many other aliases, then I will not engage him in any way, but dismiss him out of hand as a charleton, a vagabond, and just possibly a plain old common garden variety liberal wastrel. Furthermore, not to put too fine a point on it, I will add that he is part of that vast amorphous glob of liberalism I fondly refer to as the "Old ball-and-chain." Salutations all.

Oh. And Soothsayer...snooze...

left this message on another thread. Both taliban man and ayana mention sheilas in harlem as a gathering place. They might actually be a couple. But what a surprise. Pooh. Love that name.
Forgive me if I think it an appropriate signature for a liberal, which by your posting it would seem you are.

Knight Who Said etc
Your facts are wrong about public support for the Mexican-American War. Do some googling; go to the Descendants of Mexican War Veterans website. This controversial war over territorial expansion was hotly debated and opposed at the time. To this day, there is no monument to our dead in that war. BTW are you perhaps confusing this with the Spanish-American War? Different war. Mexican-American War was 1846-1848.

Fair and Balanced, Not
Gallagher says people go to talk radio so they can hear both sides of an issue? Can somebody point to a time when Rush Limbaugh has defended Hillary Clinton? I remember hearing him say that she and her husband had murdered Vince Foster; did I miss the time when he said she'd been falsely accused?

i recall from a previous missive from mass, lilly they no longer own a car. You would need to send transportation and lay in a supply of strained carrots. They are both elderly hippies and living examples of the hazards of bad drugs and too much group sex

YLG: Well, you see... roberto CAN'T!

Unfortunately he says just enough to get himself in trouble... and busted!

But the truly sad part is that even when he gets called on it, he just wonders off into some "never never land" and "never" really addresses the issue... because he truly doesn't know what he's talking about.

He's just oblivious as to how out of touch he really is... (Ahhh... cosmic poetry! )

Anne
No sign-offs from you? This Shuster column is full of opportunities! The truly weird thing is how China, the Mexican American War, and Vince Foster have all been invoked. I thought this column and thread were about Shuster's lack of journalistic integrity.....

Shuster
I'm George Soros' pony boy

lilly: "Fair and Balanced,...?"

"I remember hearing him say that she and her husband had murdered Vince Foster; did I miss the time when he said she'd been falsely accused?"

And who exactly said they'd been falsely accused???

Well, you see lilly, had Hill and Bill asked to come on Rush's show to defend themselves, I have NO DOUBT that Rush would have gladly had them on. In fact, I'm bettin' the farm that Rush would have LOVED LOVED LOVED it! :-)

I also have NO DOUBT that they would have rather eaten rocks than do that since then they'd have to explain the OTHER 43 or 44 friends or employees, etc. who ALSO MET AN UNTIMELY DEMISE, under suspicious or unexplained circumstance.

How's that???

YLG: No sign-offs from me?

Well, I had a few... here or on Ann's column. But there was NO WAY I was going to compete with some of...MOST of... the ones Bman1 and the others came up with...

I was in pain laughing at many of them yesterday (ribs hurt from coughing with this "what-ever-it-is" I've had for a week now.)

I've read some funny posts on TH, but this roberto thing was (is) the funniest!

careful, annie
I'm guessing the tinfoil hat is on a little tight today. :)

Doc, Wildwest, Clay.
Greetings, gentlemen. Lilly asks: "Can somebody point to a time when Rush Limbaugh has defended Hillary Clinton?"

Sorry, Lilly. Rush Limbaugh isn't a fool. Trying to defend Mrs. Clinton would be like trying to explain
to a liberal that "freedom of speech" cuts both ways. He just wouldn't get it.

motley
only libs take the fool's errand of defending the indefensible. Who but billy boy thought her could turn arafat into sadat. But turning chicken droppings into chicken salad can't pass muster at the local deli. Now the libs/socialists are defending the missus clinton has having a full resume with plenty of admin experience. But if she couldn't learn anything or accomplish anything during her first eight years as president why should we believe she will be successful; now. But perhaps the lib/socialists and the moveon kooks will come up with more imaginative defenses for bubba's promised indiscretions based on his previous actions in the gov and then president office
