Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Do you remember the illegal immigrant from Mexico who was driving a bus that burst into flames and killed 23 nursing home patients who were evacuating Hurricane Rita last year in Houston?

His name is Juan Robles Gutierrez and he is a Mexican national, one of the millions who have sneaked across our border and taken a job so that he can send his income back to Monterey, where his wife and daughter live. In his case, he waded across the Rio Grande and began working for Global Limo, the company that owned the bus that burst into flames on September 23, 2005, burning 23 passengers alive.

Robles was arrested after the Dallas County Sheriff said that the evidence collected indicated that the bus driver’s actions contributed to the 23 deaths.

Fast forward to today. I’d like to give you a pop quiz about Mr. Robles. If you answer correctly, you will get an A.

Since Robles was arrested, where is he today? Is he:

A) Sitting in jail;

B) Deported to Mexico;

C) Living freely as a resident of the United States and still driving a bus.

After 23 horrific deaths, there surely couldn’t be any way that “C” would be the correct answer, right? Well, welcome to 2006 America, where in the world of illegal immigration, right means wrong, up means down, and illegal means hero.

It turns out that the evidence collected by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department must not have been enough to hold Juan Robles Gutierrez responsible for the nursing home patients deaths. In fact, it is believed that a mechanical failure of the brakes led to the fire which ignited the bus.

But that wouldn’t exonerate Robles from his illegal actions that brought him to the United States and placed him behind the wheel of that bus, would it?

You bet your sweet green card it would. And did.

After he was cleared of the charges, he was ordered to stay in the Houston area in order to testify in the trial of the bus company owner. He didn’t really like that too much. He preferred to live in Laredo, Texas, where he could be closer to his wife and daughter who live in Monterey, Mexico. So he went to an immigration official and was allowed to move to Laredo.

Then, our brilliant “system” granted him a work visa. After all, his wife and daughter have bills to pay in Monterey!

After Robles got his wish to live in the American city he wanted, he began itching to drive a bus again. No problemo, amigo. A Texas-based bus company hired him and he now cheerfully makes the 8 hour drive between Laredo and Dallas on a daily basis behind the wheel of yet another bus.

Perhaps his passengers these days should be advised to carry a fire extinguisher with them.

What’s perhaps the most shocking aspect of this story is how little the news media has paid attention to it. This guy goes from being the illegal immigrant from Mexico who was arrested for the deaths of 23 elderly patients on his bus to just another working-class stiff, holding down a steady paying job, a job that many Americans would undoubtedly love to have.

There are so many outrages in this story, I don’t even know where to begin. Maybe we can start with his “request” to move to Laredo to be closer to his family in Mexico. If I were the immigration judge, I’d have the perfect solution. You want to be close to your family, Mr. Robles? Heck, how about your home in Monterey, Mexico? Close enough?

But while the American news media might not be paying attention to this story, I’ll bet the illegals are observing. After all, if a Mexican illegal can still keep residency in America and even have the same job he was doing when his bus burned up 23 people, how serious could the United States really be about stopping illegal immigration?

I hope you passed the quiz and received an “A.” When it comes to combating illegal immigration, the United States continues to get a well-deserved “F.”

I understand the frustration...
...of seeing yet another illegal not only be allowed to stay here, but dictating wher he will live. That is an outrage; but it may be a bit much to make cracks about his bus passengers carrying fire extinguishers. If there was a problem with the brakes that caused the fire, Senor Robles is off the hook for that one, comprende? (just a litle spanish lingo for mi amigos!)

LIKE THAT ONE? HOW ABOUT THIS.
In Houston, a 'sanctuary city' another invader who was 'deported' after he raped a 12 year old girl, came back into this country, was given an
ID card by the state of Texas and got into trouble again.
Only this time he killed a cop.
Up in Denver, another 'sanctuary city,' another locust in the plague of locusts invading the country got belligerently drunk at a wedding and when a policeman was called to intervene, he did what comes naturally to the criminal hordes that are streaming into this country. He got a gun and shot him. To death. In the back.
For once, this is not a looney liberal problem. Even though they want to flood this country with aliens and give them voting rights in an effort to foist their government owes us everything agenda on us.
No, the fault lies equally on both sides of the aisle on this one my friends.
Fair is fair. The Republicans don't care. They want to flood this country with cheap labor at the expense of the citizens of this country. The Democrats don't care. For the reasons I stated above.
The only way we can make our thoughts known on this issue is to vote out all liberal hyenas and all the RINO hyenas and imprison the greedy fat slobs who are profiting on this.
Then there are the courts.
Oh, man. I'm getting sicker and angrier with each word I write.
Boycott the 'Sanctuary Cities.'
Boycott Miller Beer.
Boycott all these bloodsuckers.

LAWYERS, THE COURTS AND OTHER WH@RES
Not only are the traitors on both sides of the aisle betraying us, there are the legal eagles who, under the flag of altruism and the 'American way' are pi$$ing our way of life down the toilet with frivolous lawsuits on behalf of parasites who don't belong here in the first place. In New England, there is a bunch of illegal aliens who are being prosecuted and refuse to give their names. They are being tried as 'John Does' and have a gaggle of lawyers to uphold their 'rights.'
Out in California some years back, the citizens overwhelmingly voted for Proposition 87 which was a denial of state benefits to illegals.
So what happened?
The good old ACLU steps in. In the 'interest of justice' and due to the fact that they know so much more than the average working stiff, they take an appeal to some looney liberal judge and have the voters rights just swept aside without so much as a thought.
What was it Franklin Roosevelt said? Something about we 'have nothing to fear but fear itself'?
Oh, yeah? He didn't have to contend with the ruthless PC police that inhabit our print media. That inhabit the airwaves. That march like jackbooted brownshirts across all sanity and across our way of life.
Rights for illegals.
Rights for terrorists.
Follow the Geneva Convention.Whatever that means.
Zone out and disconnect and maybe it will go away. Don't worry. Be happy.
What was that? Oh, that was your way of life, pal. Just shut up and don't protest, you racist.
We have met the enemy. He is us.
It is my considered opinion after almost a half century on this planet that peoples, nations, communities get the government, the police and the schools THEY DESERVE.
God help us all.

StandTall
STAND DOWN! You need to know a little bit about how lawschool works before you condemn all lawyers as whores. You see, there's the ordinary law student who is all-American and thinks just like you do. And then there's the other variety: the National Lawyers Guild. Not to go too deep into their history, I'll give the equivalent that, while not true, will give you the general idea. The NLG was founded by Stalin or Kruschev to subvert the American capitalist system and weaken our nation using the legal system. They exploit racial conflict, pacifists, anarchists, whatever they can to weaken America. They have allies in the ACLU and all over the place. These people are the true believers.

Mostly, in law school we just acknowledge that they are crazy and ignore them. Sadly, they will all probably get jobs in the government one day where they can really screw us over, that and as professors to help them procreate.

Standtall
Not always true.

We often get the government we never knew was coming. I can rember two cases, I am certain readers can add to the total.

When Michael Dukakis became Governor Of Mass., he annonced that Kitty and he had great concern for the homeless and by God was going to do something about it and he did, with my dime. Never a word on this subject during the campaign. We never for that concept

When Bubbba took the "oath", he and his bride suddenly found a great well of sympathy in the country for gays in the military and by God he was going to do something about it. This crisis was never debated in the campaign. we just got stuck with the polcy like it or not...no voice.

I don't know what we can do about the hidden agendas except sue the b**tards under truth in advertising laws.

the sad answer is not serious at all
Does Juan have a drivers license to drive busses? Don't you need to pass a more stringent test for driving busses full of people? Maybe even a little back ground check to see if you've had any accidents?

If none of this was done, why is there always a different set of rules for illegals and another one for law-abiding Americans?

Are we, the Ameican people, going to have to just suck it up with a government that is saying basically "Don't ask, don't tell" when it comes to illegal immigrants?

Pitiful & pathetic
Sad, sad, sad. The coddling and excuse-making for the "poor undocumented immigrants" (never to be called illegal aliens) is pathetic and worse yet, pervasive. And so typical of the Dem's need to have a population dependent upon them and their largesse.
I've dealt with (state subsidized) helping programs that require little or no responsibility from parents who are receiving luxe services in their homes. The professionals delivering those services cannot rely on the support of the liberal left personnel in those agencies. Those personnel are instructed to regard the program recipients as "clients," and the professionals are the public servants who are to bend to every request. It is an inverted system. Instead of illegals obligated to work to become English speaking citizens, they're encouraged to demand everyone speak their language...whatever it may be....but you can bet it's not Chinese, nor Haitian Creole, even, nor Croatian, nor Czech, nor Russian, etc.
Perhaps saddest of all, it's begun to cast a pall on the Spanish speaking legals, as everyone becomes suspect.

Speaking of casting a pall
Is it just me? I find myself yearning for a plain ol' boring newscast --- about Americans!
Maybe even Americans killing Americans. But now, no newscast is free of stories about illegals from the south, or towel heads from the Mideast, many of whom also live here. The latter appear on newscasts claiming their ethnicity prevails over our blood bought rights. Whatever happened to 'majority rules'?...NOT anymore! I'm extremely weary of foreigners of any brand bossing Americans around. I'm MORE weary of an impotent, soft and weak congress that endorses it. I'm considering Australia. They've told Muslims if they want a theocracy or sharia law, they'd be happier elsewhere, so leave. At least there's some moxy and grit left there. Yes, there's a pall over the entire land, and a foreboding that it is God who has raised up enemies against us because we've abandoned His truth in His Word. Of course, it is His mercy that judges us - else we rush headlong into destruction. Oops! We're already doing that!

Sideshow
I almost never read or listen to this idiot Gallagher, and this column is a perfect reason why. He is trying to make a name for himself by screaming the loudest; he is Nancy Grace with pants (I presume).

This time, he writes an entire piece bemoaning the fact that this illegal alien was the driver on the bus that caught fire and killed 23 helpless seniors, but never tells the reader why he thinks that the guy's illegal alien status has anything to do with it.

The bus company put an unsafe bus on the street, Mike. They didn't hire a firefighter to drive it, they hired an illegal alien. This violates so many laws and regulations, it's hard to know where to start.

But what does that have to do with the driver? Yeah, let's make it a lot harder to sneak into this country; let's make it economically painful to hire illegal aliens without a legal work permit; let's stop giving drivers licences, car loans and mortgages to illegal aliens; let's secure our border.

But don't just run around screaming about illegal aliens driving buses, Mike. Better yet, just stfu, Mike; you're not smart enough to have this conversation. Leave it to the adults.

Flagwaver has it right
Flagwaver: bingo.

As for the predictable racist twit "Handy", I don't know what you're handy with, but referring to all illegal immigrants as "wetbacks" won't help your argument, it just disqualifies you from being listened to.

This is the kind of reader that Gallagher seems to attract: stupid ones.

GOOD POINTS
Give credit where credit is due. Perhaps I was too sweeping in my indictment of attorneys. My anger just got the best of me.
Get the government we never saw coming. Good observation. Add another to that list. Jim Jeffords of Vermont.
Other than that, I think the you get my drift.

Status of the bus driver had nothing to
I happened to tune in my local radio station yesterday when Mike went off on this rant. After I got the gist of his arguments I punched my cd player and listented to some Bob Seegar.

I agree totally with Flagwaver and Jerry in Chicago on this one cause it was exactly what I was thinking when listening to Mike make his rant.

It is past time...
for elected officials and employers share the blame for crimes that these people commit. In 1999 Congress passed a law that said state and local officials could not prevent employees from inquiring into legal status. It was taken to court and upheld.

In my opinion, the mayor of Houston and his police chief Harold Hurtt be locked up for contributing to the death of Officer Rodney Johnson. I also believe officials responsible for 'Sanctuary Cities' should be locked up and share the same cells as the thousands of illegals allready locked up for violent crimes!

Jerry in Chicago...
I'd recommend you take your own advice, and leave this discussion to the adults.

But maybe that's just me.

JERRY IN CHICAGO
Must be Jerry Springer, what an idiot! These stories and examples of a country that is/has gone right down the crapper should be a total outrage to every American citizen. And sorry krystalbird... there is plenty of blame that can be placed on the shoulders of corrupt, do nothing, lame, failures, need to be hung politicians from both camps. If you click on the link below you will see a picture of the United States with a stress crack running right through the heart of what was once a great nation, but now a nation that has been sold out to foreign investors by Corporate America and corrupt politicians that as I mentioned before need to be strung up from the highest tree standing. The control of this country needs to be taken back by the people. Both the Republicans and the Dummycrats have failed the people who elected then into office to be their representing voice in government. And now as both parties are leaving Washington to start focusing on their campaigns, they leave without reaching any solution for how they plan on securing our wide open borders. How convenient, this way they feel their position on illegal immigration can't be used against them on election day. Well listen up you bunch of failures in Washington, the American voter has seen and heard enough, and is aware of the politics of the recent dramatic fall in the price of a gallon of gas and the reason why a plan for dealing with illegal immigration will not be in place before election day. All the debate of whether there is or is not a civil war going on in Iraq means nothing to the American people at this point no one really gives a hoot. What the news really should be reporting is the possibility of a revolt that could erupt here at home any day now, a revolt that was fueled by the greed and ineptness of elected public officials.
Seal our borders, enforce current immigration laws, stop all benefits to illegal aliens, put those in jail who employ, harbor, transport and house illegal aliens, and most importantly, allow law enforcement to do their jobs. A 30 notice should be given to all those scum sucking illegal aliens to get out of Dodge, or else they will be included as open game in the soon approaching deer hunting season. WAKE UP FELLOW AMERICANS.
Visit http://www.headsneedtoroll.org and post your views, thoughts and opinions.

To stand tall...
You have captured the fury of us all. It is only by the outrage of others do I still feel sane.

Sorry
i.e."Get the government we never saw coming."
It is every American's job to be at all times vigilant. If you didn"t see it coming your head and heart were not in the right place. No excuses.

Jerry in Chicago
And yet you are here......The column was NOT about Juan but the stupid government bureaucracies that allow him to still be here along with several million just like him. My daughter is an O.R. nurse. She had a Hispanic woman as a patient who needed to have her tubes cleared so that she could get pregnant. I said it was probably to get that "anchor baby". My daughter said she had to be legal, since she and her 5 other children were already collecting welfare. My daughter was very surprised to learn that social workers are NOT allowed to ask if the "CLIENT" is here legally. And neither is police allowed to ask. Send a thank you card to your local ACLU office for that piece of work.

Texas Driver's License
If he lives in Laredo to be near his family it would appear that he crosses the border every time he feels like it. Border security indeed. According to the law, as I understand it, you must have a TDL to drive in Texas if you live in Texas. To get a license you must have proof of identity and you must have a Social Security number. If Juan has a license, he got it by fraud. If he doesn't have a license he is driving illegally. But he can also get a voter's registration card -- and vote -- in Texas even though it is not legal because it seems we are too stupid and/or lazy to enforce our laws. Except, of course, if the owner of the bus does not lead his illegal driver to a motel for a nap every few hours we will send that SOB up the creek.

Bus Driver
Of course the media isn't paying attention to this story--it fits in perfectly with the liberal's agenda. This is how the immigration system should work. Poor immigrants take full advantage of our system, while our overpaid, wealthy, horrible capitalist citizens (who shouldn't have any rights, to make up for all the exploitation of the entire world they've caused) should simply move to Monterey and trade homes with Guitterez's family. It's only fair, after all (you miserable capitalists).

Illegals
The next time someone has the temerity to suggest that the illegals are only doing jobs that Americans won`t do, please, someone hold me down to keep me from trying to strangle them. If the Republicans or the Democrats plan to run this country, they had better have a better handle on our borders. I am not surprised that this illegal is still here, I am merely angry at the length politicians will go to to try and garner votes to keep their exaulted positions of power. I do so hope that we citizens of the greatest country in the world wake up before it is too late.

Illegal=bus fire?
I don't think this man should be allowed to roam free in our country, since he is an illegal alien.

However, what does his immigration status have to do with the fatal fire?

illegals
I think it's great how illegal immigrants etc. are getting in an uproar about english being the official language of the USA. We have that problem up in Canada with the French. If you want to live in the U.S. the least you can do is learn to speak the native language.

Stop Pretending Bush is at Fault

How about a reality check. Bush has refused to do anything about securing our borders so ask yourself who is really at fault. Those people died because George W. Bush and the Republican Party REFUSE to secure our border.

You know
I’m always much happier when a terrible crime is committed by a citizen instead of an alien.

In this case, Gallagher was definitely trying to connect a tragedy with illegal immigration. That kind of appeal to emotionalism does not advance the position and has no legitimate place in the debate. A much more defining point was where Gallagher wrote: “If I were the immigration judge, I’d have the perfect solution. You want to be close to your family, Mr. Robles? Heck, how about your home in Monterey, Mexico?”. With that action there may be no case against the bus company whose passengers would have died no matter who was driving; thus depriving the victims of justice. In that way, the tragedy has no meaning to him other than how it can be employed to advance his position. Of course, that may not be how Gallagher really feels, but it is what he wrote.

Bus driving illegal
Normally I side with Mr. G. But this time he's trying to mountain the molehill.

1) The man was an illegal. He shouldn't have been here to begin with and that should be the end of it. But it isn't...

2) Once ICE gave him his working papers, he was legal. Don't like it? Take it up with ICE. Live with it! He's legal. He got qualified on his own to do legally, what he'd been doing illegaly.

3) To keep him from leaving and make sure he was available as a witness, he was allowed to move nearer his family. Is that a bad thing? At least they're still in Mexico. At least he didn't disappear.

4) How different would it be if he were working for an American tour company sending tourists from Texas into Mexico by bus? Or a Mexican tour company doing the same thing?

I am firmly against illegal aliens being permitted to stay as a general principle. Build the wall high and go after employers. There are, however, extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis. Foreign nationals serving in our armed forces. Mr. G... Want to send them home? Should we allow their parents and wives to at least be near them when they get home from Iraq?

Now Mr. G. insists that Robles shouldn't have been here to begin with... I have no arguement with him. But once he was made legal thru the work visa... Mr. G has no arguement with Mr. Gutierrez.

Have a good weekend all.

Bus Driver
I am no bleeding heart liberal with unreasonable sympathies for the poor illegals trying to make a living (Sheesh .. am I my brother's keeper after all!?), but, why must you castrate this bus driver when it is the bus company and a system which allows such travesties who are at fault???

Was there no investigation as to WHY the brakes failed? Is the bus company not held accountable?

More importantly, check out the following article (Security and Prosperify Partnership of North America: SPP.gov). It will not be long before we no longer have to worry about illegals crossing our borders .....

Government documents released by a Freedom of Information Act request reveal the Bush administration is running a "shadow government" with Mexico and Canada in which the U.S. is crafting a broad range of policy in conjunction with its neighbors to the north and south, asserts WND columnist and author Jerome R. Corsi.

The documents, a total of about 1,000 pages, are among the first to be released to Corsi through his FOIA request to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP, which describes itself as an initiative "to increase security and to enhance prosperity among the three countries through greater cooperation."

"The documents clearly reveal that SPP, working within the U.S. Department of Commerce, is far advanced in putting together a new regional infrastructure, creating a 'shadow' trilateral bureaucracy with Mexico and Canada that is aggressively rewriting a wide range of U.S. administrative law, all without congressional oversight or public disclosure," Corsi said.

Among the initial discoveries, said Corsi, is the existence of an internal Intranet website that never has been revealed to Congress or the public.

"This private internal website," he claims, "undoubtedly contains a wealth of documentation that the FOIA request has so far intentionally excluded."

Corsi told WND the documents reveal hundreds of internal meetings, memoranda of understanding and other referenced agreements that have not been disclosed.

"We have here the beginnings of a whitewash," he said, "in which SPP evidently thinks the public will be hoodwinked by a 'Myths vs. Facts' document posted for public relations purposes on their public website."

Among the documents is an organizational chart accompanied by a listing of trilateral Mexican, Canadian and U.S. administrative officers who report on multiple cabinet level "working groups."

The government watchdog Judicial Watch announced today it has received some of the same documents, including the organizational chart, which can be seen in this pdf file, on page seven.

"There is no specific authorization for this massive administrative-branch integration with Mexico and Canada other than what amounts to a press conference jointly issued by President Bush, Mexico's President Vicente Fox, and Canada's then-Prime Minister Paul Martin on March 23, 2005, at the end ! of their summit in Waco, Texas," Corsi said.

Corsi added that even the "Myth vs. Facts" blurb on the SPP.gov website admits the SPP is neither a treaty nor a law.

"The Bush administration is trying to create the infrastructure of a new regional North American government in stealth fashion, under the radar and out of public view," Corsi claims. "Where is Congress, asleep at the wheel?"

The SPP organizational chart Corsi obtained shows 13 working groups covering a wide range of public policy issues, including Manufactured Goods; Energy, Food & Agriculture; Rules of Origin' Health; E-Commerce; Transportation; Environment; Financial Services; Business Facilitation; External Threats to North America; Streamlined & Secured Shared Borders; and Prevention/Response within North America.

U.S. administrative-branch officers participating in these working groups are drawn from the U.S. departments of State, Homeland Security, Commerce, reasury, Agriculture, Transportation, Energy, Health and Human Services, and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

The released documents affirm that counterparts from official governmental agencies in Mexico and Canada are combined with the U.S. administrative branch to form new trilateral "working groups" that actively rewrite U.S. administrative law to "harmonize" or "integrate" with administrative law in Mexico and Canada.

"What we have here amounts to an administrative coup d'etat," Corsi told WND. "Where does the Bush administration get the congressional authorization to invite two foreign nations to the table to rewrite U.S. law?"

Remember Reagan
I expected more from Mr. Gallagher than polemical soundbites and fear-mongering. Once upon a time, conservatives understood the importance of immigrants and immigration. It is sad to see the anti-immigration zealots trying to hijack the party on this issue.

The Chicago Tripe
Ahh, so good to hear from someone from my home town, the Warsaw of the Midwest. Reliably liberal, uninformed, and delusional. I'm surprised that he's already forgotten the incident that got that moron George Ryan convicted on corruption charges, which make him I think the third or fourth Illinois governor sent to go make license plates.

For those of you not familiar with the record of Hizzoner George Ryan, also notable for his "principled" stand against the death penalty, he was recently convicted for multiple counts of corruption when he was Secretary of State. During that time, he allowed TRUCK CDL licenses to be given to unqualified (read: illegal aliens) individuals in exchange for bribes. Think about it: it's bad enough sharing the road with an unqualified driver, but when said driver is operating a truck, it's terrifying.

In 1994, a truck driven by one "guest worker" Ricardo Guzman, who had obtained his license through a bribe, caused an accident that killed six children in a minivan; an entire family killed due to a chain of events starting with ever-present Chicago-style graft. And come to think of it, I have no idea what happened to Guzman. Maybe he's pitching for the White Sox.

Hopefully, Ryan will die in prison in the arms of one of the many criminals he's enabled to prosper in the Land of Lincoln. But I doubt it he'll ever do a day in the joint; maybe he'll escape to Mexico.

Political Correctness
The statement "what’s perhaps the most shocking aspect of this story is how little the news media has paid attention to it. This guy goes from being the illegal immigrant from Mexico who was arrested for the deaths of 23 elderly patients..." is instructive. The media isn't paying attention because the lives of the elderly are not politically correct (in the left's, and their media allies, eyes the elderly are expendible and have a duty to die (remember how the media fawned over Dr. Death awhile back?) but illegal immigrants are.

Mike R
Nice try but as they say no cigar. 22% of murders in California are committed by illegals. Quit trying to sugar coat, as my insurance is high because of the high number of illegals who have accidents with no insurance. My medical insurance is too high because of mandates and the hospitals required to treat anyone who comes in, even without insurance.

I give to charity but then the government forces me to give to their charity.

Robert E. Lee
The left will always state you can have an abortion because the "fetus" cannot live outside the body. How about aborting all the senile senior citizens as they cannot live outside of their current mother's body (nursing home).

That is my favorite retort to liberals regarding abortion. So it seemed the left does not care about these 23 individuals because maybe to them, it was just 23 abortions and who cares.

gurky
That first part was a joke. The real point was all that stuff that followed about Gallagher and what he wrote.

PS. If that’s your favorite abortion retort, I think you ought to work on another.

He switched liscense plates ?
I wonder why? That day the traffic on I 45 to Dallas was so thick he would have been invisible, just another bus (forest for the trees). Could he have had prior knowledge of a problem with the bus?

Another thing; on his current job, how much $ is the bus company saving over a legal driver?

I really think the loose border is an issue that the American people, almost ALL of us want fixed.
The politicians that will run on closed borders will win. This is our one and only strength and we need to question those running and vote.

And we all know that Mike Gallagher is well meaning and helped those animals after the hurricane, but he is not the brightest marble in the bowl.

Yes, Let's Remember Reagan
The 3rd world invasion of illegal aliens over the last several decades that you so charmingly refer to as "immigration" bears little resemblence to the movement and settlement of this vast great nation during its early years.

Remember Reagan?!? Okay let's go ahead and remember Reagan. If he were alive and in his prime today he would have absolutely no chance to win the California governership espousing the conservative limited-government principles he chanmpioned during his political life. What has changed in California from 1966 to 2006? Mostly, there has been an incredible invasion and migration of foreign born people (primarily from the 3rd world) into this once conservative mostly white state. Now the only Republicans that have even a remote chance of winning in a statewide election are RINO big government champions like Schwarzenegger and Riordan -- even then it takes an incredible set of political circumstances for them to be viable. They say that things happen first in California and the invasion of 3rd worlders is no different. Today's invasion is not just confined to the southwest as it was primarily back in the 1980's. As these aliens gain citizenship and their prodigious offspring gain full access to the fruits of our society (as they have in California) you can bet that candidates espousing conservative principles such as Reagan will be further marginalized and irrelevant on a nationwide scale.

One of Reagan's greatest mistakes in office was the 1986 immigration amnesty bill. History stands ready to repeat itself once again.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Anybody else notice that this guy has never expressed intentions of remaining in the US and becoming a citizen? He's here to make money to send back to his wife.

I met a Mexican tour guide not long ago with a somewhat similar story. He, almost proudly, announced to the entire tour group (some 40-50 people) that he had "gone North" twice to earn money to build his house in Mexico and never had any intention of remaining in the US to become a citizen. Two things bothered me about this guy. First, he is a history teacher in a Mexican high school so presumably has some education. Second, his attitude was that he had done nothing wrong. There was no expression of shame at having broken US laws. As I said, he described his trips to the US with some pride.

This is what we're dealing with, folks. Foreign invaders who only want to make money here and have no desire to become US citizens. Talk of amnesty and "a path to citizenship" for illegal aliens is nonsense.

Calm Down,
For mainly two reasons it's common for a witness in a criminal trial to be give temporary work papers.

The first is to make sure the witness will be available for trial. If they don't think he will he gets put in detention center until the trial.

The second is as a reward for agreeing to testify voluntairly he is allowed to stay in the country until the trial. He is allowed to work in order to support himself.

This isn't the case to site to strengthen your arguments.

The problem is that after 9/11, The Immigration Service was the only Federal agency to be eliminated. It's duties and employes were combined with Customs and other agencies to form a part of Homeland Security. The Customs Inspectors, Immigration Inspectors and Border Patrol went under Customs and Border Protection (CBP). There was a mixing of Immigration Agents, Customs Agents, Detention and Removal and Federal Protective Service under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

CBP went esentially under what had been Customs and is run fairly efficiently, for a government agency, similar to the old Customs Agency.

ICE went esentially under what had been Immigration and was made into a close copy of what the eliminated agency had been and is run similarly.

Immigration judges are famous for releasing illegals on their own recognisance and wondering why they don't show up for hearings or deportation.

The creation of Homeland Security wasn't much better than changing peoples titles and claiming to have solved the old problems by creating a new agency.

To USroadrunner
Just to clear up a minor point, those are not towels they are wearing on their heads, they are little sheets so the correct terminology is "little sheetheads."

No Juan Left Behind
"After he was cleared of the charges, he was ordered to stay in the Houston area in order to testify in the trial of the bus company owner. He didn’t really like that too much. He preferred to live in Laredo, Texas, where he could be closer to his wife and daughter who live in Monterey, Mexico. So he went to an immigration official and was allowed to move to Laredo."

I think that Juan SHOULD live real close to his family.....in freakin' MONTEREY!!!!!
Put a chip in his backside if you want to keep track of him for his "testimony" at the trial.
I'd be willing to bet that we, the taxpayers, probably paid for this jerks move too!

Immigrants
"...we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

President Teddy Roosevelt - 1907
