Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I just got back from a weekend of yuppie camping in Santa Barbara, California. I knew that upon my return my inbox would be full of emails asking that I write about various campus controversies. So I decided to write about the controversy that seems to be most on the minds of my readers. The clear winner is the recent University of Maryland attempted showing of a hard-core pornographic film.

Maryland had planned to show Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge at midnight Saturday in a campus theater. Since the film was offered to the student union free of charge, some thought it would not provoke significant controversy. They were wrong.

Reverend Kyle Ingels is a chaplain on the Maryland campus. He is also is one of the few adults working on campus with the sense to see the film as degrading, not just to women, but to people in general. Other Maryland officials are less able (or perhaps less willing) to state the obvious.

Some Maryland officials buy into the incorrect notion that viewing porn is simply a personal choice that has no effect upon others. They told the local media that the triple-X movie was an alternative to late-night drinking and other dangerous activities. I suspect that if the film were shown it would have been followed by some later night drinking and possibly dangerous activities. After all, it would have been over by around 2 a.m.

Lisa Cunningham (not to be confused with Marion Cunningham the wife of Howard) told a Baltimore news reporter that it (watching porn) would be “something fun” for the students to do.

But now that the university has decided to can the film there are two serious problems: 1) The Terrapin students have nowhere to turn for “fun” and, 2) I don’t have anything controversial to write about. (Author’s note: I consider #2 to be far more serious than #1).

But, of course, I have a solution. In the aftermath of the cancellation of the triple-X film, Cunningham and other Maryland administrators can follow the lead of my favorite university UNC-Greensboro (sarcasm = on). UNCG recently decided to pay a $3000 honorarium for a speech on the “Art of Kissing.” This is a clear improvement over their decision to host a speech (in 2004) on “Safe Sodomy.”

It is worth noting that the speaker, named William Cane, was flown into UNC-Greensboro to host the speech/seminar after the school had announced that recession-driven budgets cuts would result in the cancellation of classes and firing of staff members.

It is also worth noting that Cane’s last name used to be “Christian” before he changed it. Had the university invited a man named “Christian” to campus people would have been more offended. Ironically, the name change probably prevented a number of atheists from, well, raising Cane.

Of course, William Cane is much more than a former Christian. He is also a former English professor, which means he once held a less meaningful job than that of a kissing expert. Now he offers great tips on, for example, how to kiss with braces. Officials at the University of Maryland would probably suggest that people skip kissing and go straight to fornication during those awkward brace-wearing years.

UNCG student Jamie Freeze had the best observation on the controversy when she said that "Teaching college students how to kiss is like teaching a two year old how to throw a tantrum.” I was so inspired by Ms. Freeze’s analogy that I wrote the University of Maryland and asked them to sponsor a speech/seminar called “How to be a Porn Star.” This will help Terrapins make their own movies and save the administration from further embarrassment.

This means that I can now turn my attention to another area where expertise is sorely needed. It takes the form of a new speech/seminar called “How Public Universities Can Waste Money in the Midst of a Recession.” I’ll be teaching that one and hoping Obama doesn’t cap my honorarium.

But, in all seriousness (really), I am in favor showing porn films and hosting kissing seminars on college campuses. It’s a good way to teach young people how to screw the taxpayers. Best of all, it teaches how to kiss them afterwards.

In the church I attend I have NEVER heard anybody criticized because of skin color. The membership includes people of all races as well as biracial married couples and their children. I have never heard of any scandal in my church involving perverts or pedophiles. We do not pay for abortions for underage girls, but I suspect my tax money does.

As for Obama, I don't beieve I've even mentioned him in any of my posts except to say that neither he nor Bush have shown any desire to change the federal government's policy of propping up tyrants who oppress people. I didn't say Obama started it; I said he shows no sign of wanting to put a stop to it. When I mentioned Jeremiah Wright, I was responding to Hal, who cited Phelps as a preacher who preaches hate. I agreed, and gave Wright as another example of one who preaches hate. As I said, I would never attend a church whose preacher preaches hate. My church preaches, and practices love. Before I joined, I was a worthless druggie, without a penny to my name. Since joining, I have been surrounded by people who care about me, and I am now prosperous, with a nice home, a paid-for vehicle, and plenty in the bank. I have no fear of unemployment. That is how the church has, in Hal's words, failed to solve anybody's problems. I now share my prosperity with the church and the poor, in order to help others the way I was helped. And each week I listen to our pastor preach love for all people, just like Christ Himself did.

First things first
The social issues and what is going on at our campuses are important matters to be sure...but we what hope do we have of settling culture war issues when we can't even get most Americans to agree that free markets are better than socialism?

I read a great blog yesterday on this very subject, comparing baseball success to political/economic/national success. Check it out

Ok what the F$$K does this have to do with Barack Obama?!! Or Jeremiah Wright for that matter just because some of you dummies are STILL peeved he won doesn't mean you have to use any and EVERY opportunity to whine about it. And gosh, golly, gee I can't imagine where Mr. Wright learned about hate certainly not the perfect, fine, upstanding folksin America who have NEVER preached against others because of their skin color sheeeesh!! And if you believe THAT one I got a bridge in Brooklyn dirt cheap and for those complaining about him speaking at Notre Dame I KNOW you ain't talking!!! You all should be MORE concerned that you worship and support a 'religious' organization that for YEARS ignored and protected pedophiles, predators, and perverts and how much of YOUR money went to pay for abortions of underaged girls!!!

No, Steve.

Dear Hal
Been hitting the bottle again, I see.

Mike Adam and Obama's cap
Mike: I wouldn't worry about Obama putting a cap on your honorarium.

I would worry about one of his Chicago thugs putting a cap in your butt or knees.

I can just picture Rahm Emanuel hitting you in the kneecaps with a frozen fish that looks like Helen Thomas. Oh the horror of it all!

Maryland showed some of the porno film tonight. I think the film was actually entitled "Producing Porno Films to Pay for your Education." Auditions at 11.

Not one darn thing that you said changes one thing I said. Genocide was real and as you alluded very efficient. I didn't glorify the Amerindian and I notice you, rightly for your argument, ignore the trail of tears and the Cherokee nation or even the Seminoles. No, we practiced genocide. Exactly.

Kissing
The Army had a term about teaching. It was "applicatory." That meant learning by doing. Instead of reading about it, or watching a demostration (I'm not against doing either of those), the soldier learned how to take care of a rifle by doing it, or learning how to fire it by firing it.
Learning how to kiss by doing would seem to be a lot more fun than hearing a lecture about it.
If the couple didn't get it right the first few times, they could keep on practicing and eventually find how to do it expertly. In the meantime, having a hell of a good time.
For people who are supposed to have high IQ's and lots of education, many college officials, including professors, do not seem to know the difference between their south ends and a hole in the ground.

Again I say: So what??? I'm offended by those who mock Jesus (fully God and fully man). Life is odd that way, you know?? Sometimes people get offended. So why should non-Christians morality trump the morality of Christians??

BORING

The USA release rated R is a cut version. The movie released with a self-applied X version. (IMDB)

Which version was going to be shown in Maryland?

1. Do you believe a public university should be having a midnight showing of a film that is self-described as "porn?"

What's more, this showing is one of many free showings that are being done at universities, with the hope that word of mouth will help the film make a profit.

2. Should a public university be helping a private film company advertise and give publicity to a self-described "porn" film? What about any film, for that matter?

Bleeding Heart Liberal
By your 12:37 p.m. post, one would see that you must really hate gay people.

You use the word "gay" to try to insult Dr. Adams. Now, now, is that any way for a liberal to act?

Actually, quite a few Muslims see “Judaism” as Islam 1.0, Chistianity as Islam 2.0 and of course Islam as Islam 3.0 since they all share patriarchs and prophets.

"The genocide of the American Indian..."

Spare me. Pathetic overgeneralization: the individual American Indian hardly lived a life of idyllic splendor: imperialism (the Sioux/Lakota were an obscure tribe in Minnesota until they stole guns and horses from whites & proceeded to fight the Plains Indians for territory- ever wonder why the US Army had Pawnee scouts who opposed the Lakota?), slavery (name the nation), Cannibalism (Aztecs), Human sacrifice (Maya/Aztecs), thievery (name the tribe), internecine warfare in perpetuity (name the tribe), ethnic cleansing/racial annihilation (Iroquois wiped out the Huron because they converted to Christianity), distributive justice (pick the tribe: if a white man offended the tribe the tribe would kill the next white man they met), etc. As stated previously, the “White Man” was just more efficient- stop viewing HISTORY through the prism of multicultural, neo-Marxist philosophy. You must have learned your history from Ward Churchill.

"...and a harsh plantation system are our sins."

Over 140 years ago- and the "bill of attainder" remains. Ironically, the ASHANTI tribe (the only tribe ruthless enough to stop the northern progression of the ZULU nation) that generally monopolized the slave trade in West Africa (i.e., Ghana) had the charming habit of either eating their captives or selling them in slavery. The English explorer Richard Burton recorded this charming “social practice” while exploring that part of Africa. Which is harsher?

Mike! We need more people like you!!
As the head of a profitable ex-gay ministry in Columbus, Ohio, it would bring me
great pleasure to be able to host Mike Adams as a speaker at our annual Wild Game
Dinner for our Board of Directors and Platinum Level Tithers. We will not
be inviting back brother-in-Christ Rush Limabaugh after last year's fiasco
during the Baby Seal and Panda buffet: though he purportedly speaks for
Jesus, when confronted with a lavish self-service food bar he evidently asks
himself "What Would Buddha Do?".

From the columns of dear Mike, it is apparent that he seldom allows a moment to pass without contemplating men licking each other (bless him!). Thus, his is the first one I thought of when looking for commentators
to help us raise money for "Weaning Homos Off Repugnant Execrable Sex"
(W.H.O.R.E.S.). My ministry has been wildly successfuly in turning the most fey and preening queen into a respectable polo-and-khakis-wearing Christian man! Almost a full 26% of the self-loathing homos that cross our threshold remain free from same-gendered activities (we have brother Jeb
follow them in one of the ministry's unmarked Bentleys for nine months).
Praise!

If simple prayer and taunting do not work, we have those who are less successful (and who are obviously possessed by demons) shipped off to one of our Southern Baptist Christian Science labs for further de-programming.

Indeed!
The Truth offends because it CONVICTS!

Hal
No it would not! The first two or three commandments (depending on the bible) are offensive to any non Christians.

True but that is relief not solution. Conservatism has failed miserably at developing solutions and quite honestly, I am not slamming the churches for no solutions but it is not their job and they simply are not good at it. They find compromise most difficult. FYI comparing Phelleps to Wright is nasty and untrue. Look at Wright's entire body of work

And there is no such thing as a XXX film and the X classification has been done away with. Perhaps Dr. Adams should refer to the MPAA at some point. And yes according to IMDB it is rated R. I wonder if say a Chinese class at a major university screened "Lust, Caution" what Dr. Adams would have done? It rated NC (the replacement for X). I think there is a NC version of the film though.

Old Hal, the Scranton sod, is 100% correct in most everything he writes...

That is, as long as one views his writings as being 180 degrees out of phase.

Example:

The "War on Poverty", a government program devised by liberals, has now been waged a few orders of magnitude longer than any shooting war in our nation's history - at a cost nearing $8 trillion - yet, according to the "Hal's" of the world, the problem is now worse.

But to old Hal - that is somehow a "conservative" problem.

Yep - 180 degrees...

Actually not true it is your sorry ilk who claims NO responsibility for the state of the nation. The moderates and liberals do accept responsibility.

"...You have all the answers... somewhere... your solutions have never, ever worked before anywhere else in recorded history..."

This is a nonsense talking point. Liberal ideas as just one example worked to form the US. The founders were not conservatives.

A couple of questions:...he federal government propped up oppressive dictators before Bush, during Bush, and continues to do so under Obama..."

OK and yes I know. I don't and didn't see any easy answers. Like in hind sight we should have kept up aid to Afghanistan and Pakistan after the Soviets left Afghanistan. Israel would not be as warlike and perhaps there would be peace if we didn't prop up that country as much. Africa is a basket case where no matter who you help they are not generally "nice" people. I am hoping for a much more productive foreign policy now but I can guarantee it won't be perfect. Look what happened when we removed Saddam.

"...In answer to your question, I believe the nut in church killed...for the good woman with the gun."

Why were the people sheep? They would have not opposed him? But guns are tools nothing else. The hate we breed often from churches ala Phelleps or some Mullah have some blame... We are a violent nation. Why?

a is a troll, hal is a troll
as satisfying as it is to rebut these miscreants it is pointless to expect any response that is, well, responsive. They trot our straw men or some other logical fallacy that is convenient to them. But should we be surprised? They are,, after all, mentally ill liberals and we cannot expect anything less then psychotic babblings from them.

Porn & Guns
I have never thought of sex as a spectator sport. It is supposed to be a participating sport, enjoyed by ALL participants.

And for all the gun control nuts out there, I can only quote Charlton Heston, "THEY WILL GET MY GUNS WHEN THEY PRY THEM FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS". I own some of my guns for hunting, and some for self defense, actually they all qualify as self defense weapons. And as for assault rifles, any rifle is an assault weapon when it is pointed at me.

The Old Fart

Hal
A couple of questions: When in my post did I express any support for Bush? I think he was a horrible president. However, my claim still stands: The federal government propped up oppressive dictators before Bush, during Bush, and continues to do so under Obama.

In answer to your question, I believe the nut in church killed two people before the woman with the gun stopped him. He had on him enough ammo to kill 100 more, and would have done so had it not been for the good woman with the gun.

You poo-poo my food contributions to the recently unemployed and refer to it as "advertising". Well, actions speak louder than words. They express great appreciation for our "advertising". They can eat our "advertising". They can't eat your condescending drivel. I ask again, what do you do for the poor? How much money do you contribute? how much time do you spend working in soup kitchens, or homeless shelters?

BTW, I can think of a few other industrialized nations whose violence has been many times anything we've experienced: the USSR, Communist China, and Nazi Germany. Violence inflicted by governments after they'd banned guns.

Hal is a pretentious blowhard
Hal,

I have never seen such a pretentious blowhard such as yourself. Never in my adult life have I ever seen someone place so much argument behind such broad generalizations such as you have. Must be nice way up in the cheap seats... tell you what... as your world disintegrates around you... and your messiah's numbers fall daily because more and more American's are waking up to the fact that most liberals and their agendas are more about power and blame than about fixing problems... you keep tilting at those windmills, Hal... It's all someone Else's fault, right? You have all the answers... somewhere... your solutions have never, ever worked before anywhere else in recorded history... those pesky conservatives... but you know better right? Is it because Katie Curic told you so? No, wait... I KNOW!!! It's because your mother told you you were special, and you BELIEVED her???

Hal,
it must be hard to breathe with your head that far up your backside.

Hal
Thanks for the confirmation - you really don't know what the church's purpose is.

You don't have to answer my questions if it will save you the embarassment.

Geez... how off topic most are...
Sorry for the long post...Man... Porn on campus... Some agree with it, some don't. However, we are ALL paying taxes, and parents/students are paying fees. I don't agree that with the outrageous tuition and fees that a parent/student has to pay just to attend the school, now we "HAVE" to pay for this trash too? I have a novel idea. You want to show porn on campus? Fine. Set it up, but don't use Union fees to pay for it. Let those that want to watch it pay for it out of THEIR pockets, and those that don't can utilize their Union fees for something they think is more beneficial or fitting. No one's rights are being denied, those that want to participate can, and those who don't are not penalized through funding of pathetic projects and/or events.

As a parent of one college-aged female and another soon-to-been college aged female - I want to point out a very SIMPLE fact: The tuition and fees that are paid to Universities are for EDUCATION, not entertainment. I'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars every year (not to mention TAX dollars spent) KEEPING SOMEONE ENTERTAINED OR OCCUPIED.

Regardless of your position on porn, the simple fact that it is being politicized as a philosophical platform is truly pathetic in every way. Everything has its place, and viewing porn is not something I ever anticipated as a group activity.

What liberals obviously fail to appreciate is that a private university like Notre Dame is under NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER to extend a speaking invitation to ANYONE.

And the university administration is under even LESS obligation to grant a honorary degree. Which to me, by the way, is Notre Dame's greatest sin in the matter of inviting Obama to speak at Notre Dame. I'm not a Catholic myself and thereby technically have no dog in this hunt, but Notre Dame's administration, by awarding Obama an honorary degree from that school, isn't merely ACCOMODATING the beliefs and practices of Obama that are an offense to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, it's SANCTIONING them.

The solution is simple: Catholic alumni of Notre Dame who still are serious about the church's doctrine should simply withhold their contributions to the school until such time as the university's president is replaced - and Catholic parents with talented athletic high-school children should encourage their children to ply their athletic skills in college elsewhere until that time. Once the school is losing millions of dollars in contributions and watching its athletic teams decline to mediocrity because top-flight Catholic student-athletes are plying their talents elsewhere, the school's governors will quickly get the message and make sure that the NEXT N.D. president isn't a sell-out for political expediency.

because it is the left that is constantly calling conservatives greedy and selfish when we don't agree with their latest redistribution of wealth scheme. If your side would quit the name calling and finger pointing then we wouldn't have to fire back with our statistics showing that the left should be pointing the finger at itself. And now we know that liberals are very prone to not paying their taxes so higher taxes, the left's avenue to helping the less fortunate. So you get to point fingers (collective you) and still not really help.

"Right now there is a big controversy about whether Obama should be allowed to speak on the Notre Dame campus."

This is just plain stupid! It's about whether the university should squander its last message for the students on a person who clearly goes against what a Catholic/Christian university should stand for. As though they didn't get the pro-death message anywhere else in their four years in the muck of liberalism?

God will not be mocked.

Is Adams gay?
There was something I didn't like about this guy. Now he's put his foot in it. Porn is demeaning?

We may assume that the overwhelming majority of students at any university campus are over 18 (doogie howser being the exception). This makes them consenting adults. As adults, people are free to make their choices, unless they are EFs (evangelical fundamentalists), who must live in a nanny state forever, with someone on high determining what they may and may not watch. For their own good.

Or is it Gay Adams sense of a waste of money? Best watch out. Most big time athletics are a waste of money for me. Do I get to decide what gets funded and what doesn't? FYI: kiss goodbye to Mach Madness.

Hal deplores senseless violence, but
that's what he resorts to in his stupid posts. He does violence to the Constitution, prior restraint, and history - too much reading Kos without a mental comdom protecting his brain.

He also attempts to call a plain evil guy in Pittsburgh a right-winger. He did join the Marines, but was kicked out for fighting with the DI, so you lose that wager.

Also, his mother was fined for spitting on his girlfriend, and failed to tell the police that he was armed when she called them to "come take his @ss". She also open the door for them, and might not have told him that she called them. Figure that one out. He also didn't have a "assault rifle" - they were semi-autos.

It's all so simple to simple-thinking liberals to whom Truth matters so little.

a
Do you even bother to read someone's posts? Or better yet, are you even able to read AT ALL?

What part of my words regarding the composition of gun buyers in a liberal-dominated area like Southern California that read, "a lot of these gun buyers would be liberals", don't you understand? If you think that when I said this I was saying or implying that conservatives don't reside in So Cal (in case you don't know, fella, I'M a conservative who resided in Southern California for 15 years, and I guess you must think that I haven't figured out after all this time that such California posters to this site like MyOpine, BrianR, Lolo1, Motley Crue, Mountain Rose, and Rose are conservatives), then you and I clearly don't speak or understand the same lingua franca.

And how do YOU know that a lot of the liberals who are part of the contingent of those cleaning off the shelves of guns these days in Southern California AREN'T doing it because they fear that the government will try to take their gun-ownership rights away from them in the future? In case you've forgotten, they had a riot in L.A. 17 years ago, almost to this very day - and a lot of people, INCLUDING those who vote Democrat, discovered the hard way that that not only can't the police always be counted on to protect you when you really need them, there are a lot of liberal politicians who don't seem to believe that the government even HAS an obligation to protect its law-abiding citizens from violent law-breakers.

A few things
College students are adults and can judge for themselves if they want to see a porn film. Is this a proper use of student fees? No worse than much else they are used for.

a
no I do not have to register to speak -- I have to register to use public space there is a difference. Most states with concealed carry require some sort of registration to do so but they do not require that I register the guns I own and leave on my own property -- see the difference?

Hal
If as you say we are a nation that tolerates violence.I think that for the past 60 years the libs have been running this country.Connect the dots please

a
You're right, not all shooters are conservative: however, I know of extremely few CONSERVATIVE politicians who want to take away people's ability to own a firearm, and very few gun owners who are conservative would vote for such a conservative politician.

By the way, I never SAID that ALL those who are sweeping the shelves clean of guns these days in Southern California are liberals: I said, and I quote, "a lot of these gun buyers would be liberals".

And since you said, "Guns are flying off the shelves because nutters believe Eric Holder is coming for them"; well, since a lot of those guns are flying off the shelves in areas dominated by liberals, like Southern California, it appears that there are a lot of "nutters" in liberal ranks as well. So all you've done is smeared a lot of your fellow liberals for engaging in the very same activity that YOU have been engaged in: buying a gun (you admitted in your 9:44 am post that you and your wife shop for guns).

Thanks for revealing your Orwellian double-think. And thanks for revealing, yet again, how quickly you liberals will turn even on your fellow liberals if you think it will serve the slightest purpose for you personally (which, in your case, was to try to demean conservatives). You wonder why I don't tend to make friendships with committed liberals, you epitomize it: liberals don't seem to have reservations about stabbing even their own kind in the back for the slightest advantage. So I don't need to guess how they'd treat a Christian conservative like ME.

a
registration is the first step to confiscation as has been shown elsewhere.

I'd also say that as you don't have to register for your right to speak, associate with whom you want, worship the way you choose, not be subject to unlawful search and seizure, to avoid cruel and unusual punishment, etc. Why in the world should you have to be registered to exercise your second amendment rights?

lilly
although I'm a conservative I am also a feminist when it comes to pornography and I subscribe to the Andrea Dworkin school of thought on pornography. I believe that when you view pornography you are viewing the abuse of women on film. I am horrified by the degradation and abuse of women and children rampant in pornography and I don't see why any school should promote that as long is it is funded by taxpayer dollars. Can university students view porn -- yes many do I'm sure -- but it should not be sponsored by the university.

As to Notre Dame -- they are a private college funded by the Catholic Church as such they are answerable to the Church and the many Catholics who give money at the annual parish drives for Catholic University funds. Not to mention they represent the Church. If a public university wants Obama to speak more power to them, but if Notre Dame wants to call itself Catholic and take money from Catholics then they are beholden to the Church.

This is and HAS BEEN
an ideological agenda of our radical left educational institutions to indoctrinate our children with their left radical insane views of women and sex. They want to corrupt our children..the same with rap that degrades women as hoes and *itches...women at colleges need to stand up and say this is not acceptable to not only to protect women but to make men understand that we shan't be abused in any form..this will only create more deteriation in generations to come...Jeanne

I applaud your charitable involvement. However, my argument is statistical. Conservatives give much more to charity. Simply a fact. The left gives us "paid" volunteerism. What? There is no such thing by definition, unless you do liberal-speak, where taxes are re-labeled investments and "volunteers" are paid.

Pronograph ban is
Do not be deceived with the pronography ban, liberals have spoken with a trojan horse. On the surface it sound like sound judgement but what is the motive by allowing it at some campuses and not at others. The mixed messages of the Obamabnation is deception at its worst.

Mike, a slight modification
What a hoot! Rather than “How to be a Porn Star" the U of M should host "Make me a Porn Star" as an alternative to the popular cable show "Make me a Super Model".

Whatever happened to feminists' opposition to porn on the grounds that it degrades women?

I have never been a big fan of the modern feminist movement, but on that particular point, I thought they had it right. I suppose this is another value that has been sacrificed for the sake of the Big Tent. Opposing pornography, after all, leaves out so many people.

Think of all the people you dis when you criticize porn: Child molesters, porn stars (both men and women) porn producers and directors, erotic "artists" of all types, adult book store owners -- Gosh, the list could go on and on.

Who will speak on behalf of all these people if we oppose porn? Feminists would never want to be known as judgmental when it comes to people’s sexual preferences.

Edjucation;
I am surprised when I visit the campus of the University of Ill-noise, how many students do not have a clue. Many do not even suspect. Then there are those who do know. I'm just not sure whom out numbers who. Mr. Adams keep up the good fight, I'm doing what I can with my grand children.

Everyone Knows
that colleges are havens for OVER-EDUCATED DERELICTS.

Two of my children were so disappointed by thier (highly respected) colleges that they are considering just leaving.

In one, the English Class spent the whole semester studying "Plays about Homosexual Angst".

My son was disappointed because the plays were all inferior works about individual "finding" thier Gayness.

Uh...I guess English Class has nothing to do with great writing anymore, just INDOCTRINATION INTO THE GAY AGENDA.

I HOPE MANY COLLEGES GO BROKE...THAT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO CLOSE THEM DOWN.

You said, "Cons, I'm not being hypocritical with my position regarding gun laws".

As a unabashed liberal who admits that you actually ENJOY shooting, a lot of your fellow liberals would not agree; in fact, they'd probably consider you just as much a "bitter clinger" as the most hard-core conservatives. Or even worse, a closet conservative. So in the eyes of your fellow liberals, you'd be just as much a candidate for Room 101 in a future liberal "utopia" as I would.

By the way, a friend of mine in Southern California has told me that these days guns are becoming very hard to get there, not because of gun-control laws but because there's been such a rush on guns that they're snapped right off the shelves practically the moment they arrive in the stores. And to the best of my knowledge, Southern California isn't exactly a stronghold of the VRWC. Which means that a lot of these gun buyers would be liberals, like yourself. Gee, where's their faith in their own belief about how guns are evil - and the liberal mantra that taking care of the bad guys should be left wholly to the local police. What are these liberals out there who are buying guns preparing for, anyway? Any liberal out there dare to answer?

that was Oakland, not SF. Still, a repulsive display no matter what the history with the local police.

My bad, it was Oakland.

To LuLu
Let me see if I can explain this to you by setting up a parallel. Think first of conservative opposition to gun control: people insist on the right to own fifty or sixty guns because, they say, it's a matter of principle---if the government controls ANYTHING about gun sales, pretty soon they will confiscate all guns. Well, freedom of ideas on a university campus works that way too. If the state (or a group of conservative residents somewhere) is allowed to decide ANYTHING about what can and can't be shown, exhibited, taught, or discussed on a university campus, pretty soon they will be deciding everything. Same logic. It's not about pornography having any redeeming social message, any more than a homeowner actually needs to own fifty or sixty guns in order to defend his house from a burglar.

Right now there is a big controversy about whether Obama should be allowed to speak on the Notre Dame campus. Today's article is about whether UMD students should be allowed to view pornography. Others don't want a professor in class to say anything good about Communism. Some people want only the ideas THEY like to be allowed on a university campus. They don't want art exhibited in the campus museum if it shows too much nudity or anti-religion images. They want nothing taught (or shown) except what is acceptable to the majority of Americans (or is not objected to by a small vocal minority). When that happens, there won't be a UNIVERSE of ideas, and the place won't be a UNIVERSITY.

Not all are foolish and counterproductive. I do not have a right to a thermonuclear devise in my basement to protect my neighborhood. I do not have a right to go about armed and drunk. There are gun control steps that make sense in given environments and affecting different classes of weapons and people.

The myth that the second amendment somehow allows the people to take up arms and over throw the government is just that a myth to satisfy losers' teenage fantasies of self worth. All revolutions first start with communication and organization. Weapons are always obtainable. What conservatives miss always is that the word does indeed overpower the sword. For All of Hal's Friends

Over the last couple of years I must admit to being a bit mystified by our friend Harold. At first I thought he was just another loon with Walter Mitty delusions such as Wobbie. However, Harold really was an Air Force officer which makes him even more of mystery. How many retired O5s are is willing to assume such a high profile role as a mouthpiece of organized labor/socialism?

At first it was puzzling, but then it became obvious, Harold wants to run for Congress! Harold lives in old Paul Kanjorski’s district. Kanjorski 72 is probably around for one more term or so. It appears that Harold is attempting to establish himself as a contender for that seat by creating the image of fearless Democratic warrior.

What to do then? For those finding Harold repugnant or obnoxious the best way to deal with him would be to take steps to thwart those political aspirations. Archiving Harold’s posts that would be embarrassing in a primary or general election, contributing to Harold’s opponents’ in both the primary/general election could be effective.

I can safely say that I have never viewed Internet pornography or any other type of pornography -- and there are many people just like me.

But what people do in private is not the same thing as a taxpayer-funded university showing porn.

Personally, I don't see how these schools on the one hand have women's studies programs teaching against porn or consensual heterosexual sex as oppressive then turning around and calling porn entertainment.

Pornography damages men and degrades women, but by all means call it safe entertainment.

First it would be interesting to know if the school intended on showing this readily available "R" version, or some other "uncut" version.

Second, while I can't condone the idea of universities showing sexually explicit material; it seems that those of us that value liberty must understand that free people making free choices do not always agree with ours, and don't always yield happy endings. (no pun intended)

Given the current attacks on individual liberty, and private property by our own government, while the world braces for Iranian nukes and North Korean rockets - college aged young adults watching smut seems a rather trivial subject for outrage.

We watched Pulp Fiction for free at Penn State and A Time to Kill I think. Both good movies but I'm not sure they would show porn at Penn State today.

I think the point of this article is lost on Will and Hal. The point of the article lies in the absurdity of offering a free porn screening at a University or taxpayer dollars onhow to kiss (people actually NEED a class on this? Today's youth must be stupid indeed.) The purpose of a university is or should be education and porn and how to kiss has nothing to do with it - that's personal and if people want to pay to attend a kissing lecture or watch porn at home, have at it. On a college campus though, it's not only inappropriate, but a waste of money that could gee, I don't know go into teaching something like. . . the Constitution? Most kids have no idea what the heck that great document even says.

I went to Texas A&M and SFA and remember the Rocky Horror Picture Show as well (ahh the memories, when your only worries were passing your next exam and who you were going to ask out for your next date). We must have been smarter back then, because I was already able to kiss my girlfriend without a college course or lecture on how it is done.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
When I was there, we went to see Rocky Horror Picture Show. Afterwards there was some drinking and other activities. But that was a few decades ago. My how times have changed.

Dr. Adams
Great post again about our Nations' tax funded lunacy our universities are engaged in. Keep exposing the left's lunacy as they have enjoyed the cloak of anonimity far too long.

I never had a class in how to kiss so can I ever be sure if I am doing it right? How did we manage before all these necessary classes were offered in higher educational venues?

I guess the fact that I have a beautiful wife, 3 kids and 5 grandkids I must have been a natural. :-)

Will's show of hands?
I guess his hand went straight up after he asked how many of us have viewed porn over the past year, no doubt his was gay porn. And he managed to insert his gay shyte in his post again.

Will, as Icedog and other fine posters have said, we really don't care and you'll never get our approval for your perversion so please just go away with your boyfriend(s) behind closed doors and continue to spread sodomy diseases through your fecal matter transfer onto one another's Johnson and we'll continue to pray for your behavior to change.

Will
Keep it up, Will! (Well, you know what I mean :)

Just keep on reminding them that they're on the wrong side of history. It does them good.

Icedog..................................

.......nails it. Will, you're an idiot. Now do as you were told. Go away.

Countdown until Dr. Dougie, Townhall's own Oregon Idiot, chimes in taking Dr. Adams to task for SMEARING English professors.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5.............

Guilt
I feel somewhat guilty when I read these articles. When I was in college I was not very vocal against this sort of lunacy, and now I come and read Dr. Adams articles so I can laugh about the idiocy I had to live with a couple of years ago. Yet Dr. Adams is fighting this battle with moronic university officials on a daily basis. I kinda feel like I'm letting someone else fight my battles...

The Principal
Bingo on your comments! Just how does an individual espouse and implement some of the most draconian infanticide public policies in the history of mankind, receive the highest accolades and public praise from America's abortion industries....and yet still be honored by an iconic Catholic institution? Any Catholic alumni who still sends money to Notre Dame is a fraud or a hypocrite.

University Follies 101
Thanks again, Mike, for exposing what passes for "fearless inquiry" on our campuses of so-called higher learning. Here's another one that needs to be added to the pile of excrement: Father Jenkins, President of Notre Dame (that's Latin for "Our Lady" for those who aren't classically educated), has invited Barack Hussein Obama to address the graduating class in May. As if that weren't bad enough, Notre Dame will also confer an honorary doctorate on the abortion-monger-in-chief.
Isn't that kind of like awarding Adolph Hitler the B'nai Brith award for Outstanding Humanitarian?
Graveyard humor aside, I hope all of the honest Catholics who heretofore have generously supported Notre Dame's Alumni Association tell Fr. Jenkins what they think by closing their checkbooks.
