Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Jonathan Lopez is a Christian. He is also a student at Los Angeles City College (LACC) in Los Angeles, California. During the fall 2008 semester, Lopez took an Introduction to Public Speaking (Speech 101) class. It was taught by one John Matteson.

In Speech 101 there are several different speaking assignments, including a delivery speech, a culture speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. For the informative speech, Professor Matteson allowed students to cover any topic and to speak between six and eight minutes with or without visual aids.

In November, Jonathan Lopez attempted to give his informative speech on God and the ways he has seen God act miraculously in his life and in the lives of others. In the middle of that speech, Lopez spoke of God and morality and read the dictionary definition of marriage. He also read two verses from the Bible.

But before Lopez was finished with his speech, Professor Matteson interrupted him. After calling Lopez a “fascist bastard” in front of other students, Matteson invited students to leave the class if they had been offended. When no one left, the professor dismissed the entire class.

As Jonathan Lopez prepared to leave class that day he found an evaluation form left in his backpack by Professor Matteson. There was no grade for the informative speech. Instead there was this instruction: “Ask God what your grade is.” It was followed by a statement saying that “prostyelsyszing [sic] is inappropriate in a public school.”

Professor Matteson’s evaluation did not mention that it is “inappropriate” to censor the speech of those belonging to a protected class. Nor did it mention that it is “inappropriate” to do these things while acting under the color of state law.

This was not the first time Professor Matteson’s animus towards Christians had been on display. Several weeks before the aforementioned incident, he told students the following: “If you voted yes on Proposition 8, you are a fascist bastard.”

Naturally, the combined effect of Professor Matteson’s remarks about Proposition 8 and his remarks about Lopez’ informative speech have created a chilling effect on First Amendment expression. It is likely that students other than Lopez are refraining from expressing political, religious, and social beliefs not in line with Professor Matteson’s.

This chilling effect led Jonathan Lopez to meet, in late November, with Allison Jones, Dean of Academic Affairs at LACC. But the problems continued.

On December 1, Lopez and another student arrived late to Speech 101. To prevent interrupting speakers, Professor Matteson required students to wait outside until they heard applause signifying the end of a speech. Mr. Lopez entered late because he did not hear anyone speaking. Because someone was, in fact, speaking, Lopez apologized to the class.

Professor Matteson ignored this apology and decided to confront Lopez in front of his peers with the following: “Not very Christian of you.” The snide remark caused Lopez heightened concern over his eventual outcome in the class. Consequently, Mr. Lopez decided to give Dean Jones a written note describing the December 1 incident.

Unfortunately, Professor Matteson saw Lopez give the note to Dean Jones. The Professor then confronted Lopez. During the confrontation, the Professor said he would make sure that Lopez was expelled from school.

Mr. Lopez then decided to seek legal counsel and to request action to correct Professor Matteson’s conduct. Both Dean Jones and LACC President Jamillah Moore were sent letters through Mr. Lopez’ attorneys. They refused to take any action.

Instead of acting, Dean Jones wrote that she received two complaints from students in Speech 101. One student allegedly said “I do not believe that our classroom is the proper platform for him to spout his hateful propaganda.” Another student allegedly said “I don’t know what kind of actions can be taken in this situation, but I expect that this student should have to pay some price for preaching hate in the classroom.”

Following the inaction of Dean Jones, Mr. Lopez sent, via counsel, a second letter demanding action in his case. Dean Jones responded by saying that the situation had been appropriately addressed. She then brazenly stated that any service of process or tort claims could be served on the District’s General Counsel.

As of this writing, Mr. Lopez still has not received a grade for his informative speech about God and miracles. Only God knows what his grade is.

How do these professors keep their job?
All to often these professors in liberal arts college have the administration on their side. I know in my Alma Mater of Eastern Kentucky University, we had a forum on free speech and what we could and could not put on signs and display in or on buildings. Most of what was forbidden was anything they considered inflammatory, however, there was and still is a professor that has his entire window facing one of the busiest venues on campus (next to the library and the administration buildings) that continues to have anti-American, anti-Bush, and anti-military literature on the windows and nothing is ever done about it. Yet someone posts anything against liberal anything, and it is removed immediately. The double standard is overwhelming.

Chris...
It is so difficult to understand how they do stay employed but the administration of the colleges and universities are like-minded so it unfortunately takes the external lawsuits to get them to act.

Steve

What we can do
What we can do about il-liberal free speech on today's campuses?

It takes great courage to speak the truth to power, yet speek it college students must. For every one who speaks truth to power, there is a 'wandering soul' to hear the message. Then there will be two speaking truth to power. When those two speak truth to power, they will have the same effect on two more, and so on, and so on, and so on, until we have retaken our college campuses back from the il-liberal teachers that control the learing environment today.

It will be a long dificult road, but it must be won.

Matteson,another Ward Churchhill
I hope the author and readers follow this case.

It is a national trend to label speaking about Christianity hate speech.

Here is a video that was banned after being arranged to be shown at a TV station. It was Christian in content.

I hope some of you will take a moment and view it.

This incident articulated by the author is no joke or aberration.

http://www.silencingchristians.com/

Universities pretend to abhor discrimina
Yet practise such blatant christophobia.

First, you're an idiot
It's obvious that you know nothing about the bible, or God's righteous judgement of HIS people.

God created those people that you talk about in your asinine post. He gave them everything they had and provided for them in every way possible, yet they subverted, and perverted, his teachings and his instructions to them on how to live and therefore thrive in his care.

Not only that but they further went against his teachings and cousel and not only made war for the purposes of conquest and/or enslavement, but they blatantly and cold bloodedly murdered many of God's children in the process.

For this they JUSTIFIABLY Incurred the wrath of a fair and just, but vengeful God, who had REPEATEDLY WARNED THEM of what the consequences of such actions would be.

There is NO hate in the bible towards any of these people. God loved them but he had told them what he expected and they defied him, REPEATEDLY. So they suffered his justice, which we all will face at some point in the future.

Are you prepared to meet your maker with a heart and conscience free of the blood of innocents?

I am.

Similar...

I had similar experiences to the several that Dr. Adams relates.
In the late 60s / early 70s...

One: A history teacher was expounding upon the vile 2nd Amendment, demanding that we have Gun Control. I pointed out in class, that everywhere citizens were illegally disarmed, crime went up.

He never brought the subject up in class again, but from the look of hatred on his face, I knew my grade would be less than I earned. I was correct.

~~~
Two: I approached a Physics Professor in the hallway, and asked him something about his class, as it was a required course for my Major. I stupidly made the mistake of calling him Mr. ___ his name. I was immediately, and imperiously reminded that is was DR. ___ his name.
Since I was working full time, going to school full time, and paying my own way, I decided to take the course at a different University. It turned out, he was a jerk also, and his T.A.s were both lesbians ( lab assistants ) who hated me, but I still got an 'A'.
As the class was in a large auditorium, my Wife sat in on one class. Afterwards, she said, "That man is insane." She was right.
~~~

I went on to become a College Professor, and taught for three years, before bailing out and Became an Electrical Engineer in industry, and nearly tripled my salary.

More lefties. But, my wages and benefits were much better.

The Rat, Ret.

Adams is again just trying to manipulate
His speciality seems to be smearing other academics. Just another group for you people to hate.

As usual, he doesn't provide anywhere near enough information to make any kind of rational decision.

1. What critical information has Adams left out?
2. Assuming this really happened (more or less), how common is it?
3. How common is the opposite type of bias, where a religious teacher coerces students into their belief system (e.g., creationism)?

Having taught at the university level for over 20 years, I never saw or heard of anything approaching Adam's extreme case. This is not to say it never happens, but my guess is that this is an extremely rare occurrence in the college environment. Adams is taking an exceptionally rare event and blowing it completely out of proportion.

In contrast, the opposite condition, where religious teachers are trying to force their religious beliefs (e.g., creationism) on students (much younger and more vulnerable students) is quite common.

But Adams isn't concerned about the common religious brainwashing that occurs throughout K-12 education. Instead, his goal is to describe an extremely rare case, and use it to manipulate his readers into being anti-academic and anti-inhtellectual in general. Just more hate-mongering.

I think God wil give him an "A"...
And that really is the only grade that counts.

purfeser emeritious...

Lemme see now.

"Professor Emeritus" , means 'retired'. Hmm why would they be retired from the "Temple of Baal" ?

Extreme senility, would be my guess.

Short of murdering 2 or 3 students during each class, anyone with Tenure, AND is a follower of Baal, cannot be fired.

So, the "Temple of Baal" offers them a cushy opportunity. Take this large amount of money and benefits, and stay home.

"Yes. Of course you will always be a guest of honor at all faculty meetings, and You WILL get a standing ovation every time."

"OK., ok, Since you insist, We will also decree that any student who does not call you Dr., will be immediately suspended."

"Additionally, since you obviously know nothing about the "Real World", we will generously provide you with a full time caretaker who will tell you when to eat, when to bathe, and will tend to more private affairs of which you are incapable of doing for yourself."

Ratas y Ratones.
Why don't you try to write in normal English from now, so that we can all understand you? That is, if you have something useful to write.

Ridiculous story.
Probably never happened. I cannot even imagine a faculty member or instructor talking like this to a student. Adam's columns all follow this kind of pattern, somehow the Christians are always the victim in a country that is ~ 80% Christian??!! LOL.

I humbly beg your forgiveness.

I shall retire for now, unless provoked by more stupidity from the trolls.

My spoofs were NOT intended for normal people. They were intended for the super elite that think they are better than us because of some silly degrees that so many obtained, OUTSIDE OF THE TRUE SCIENCES, by other means.

The others got their degrees, mostly by parroting what they heard in class, and by buttlicking.

I do hope I did not offend you. I have read some of your posts, and you do seem to be a reasonable person.

Friends? I hope so.

OBTW, I am a RAT, Ret.

Dr. Douglas and Rudolph
Both are computer literate and both are too dense to google the name of the professor, the subject of this article, or student, to verify what the author wrote.

Douglas confirms he has an enemies complex concerning conservatives, Rudolph just doesnt know any better.

Given the educational credentials Douglas presents, it is unfahtomable he would not have googled these names in an attempt at veracity. His statements are borderline psycopathic given the facts.

This is all over the internet and has been. The facts are really without dispute.

Douglas and Rudolph sure know how to step all over themselves.

Can you imagine
If this student had been a Muslim and stood up in class and quoted his faith?

Nothing.

There would not have been a peep from this professor who would not have wanted to offend the Muslim student.

Do you think the professor would have quizzed the Muslim student on proposition8 since Muslims have no tolerance for same sex relationships?

Rat...
You may not know it, but you're on just about everybody else's "fly-over list".

I'm sure there's no love lost.

Rudolph is certainly right that

Adam's columns use "christians as victims" as one of their underlying themes. And it is quite bizarre in a country where christians are dominant, as Rudolph noted.

But another theme that is basic to Adam's agenda is that "academics" are dishonest, uncaring, exploitative, dumb and so on. This is also rather bizarre in that Adams is supposed to be a professor himself.

In any event, this article would be an big embarrassment to most academics. It's just very poorly presented. In contrast to Adams'' insinuations, the overwhelming majority of academics are highly objective hard working people who are motivated by a love of knowledge. They do research to discover the knowledge and then transmit it to the next generation of students. It is truly disgusting to see someone like Adams attacking other academics.

There are no atheists...
Everyone worships something.

The important thing is that you get to choose your object of worship, albeit "higher" or "lower" than your self. Free will is an absolute requirement for choosing your own path.

Subversion of a culture
I'm just using my snippets this morning. I don't have any time to really think things through before heading off to work.

Yesterday I listened once more to Yuri Bezmenov's 1984 interview on Communism's strategy to fully subvert a nation. Rather you are liberal or conservative, I strongly encourage you to listen to it now. It's about 16.5 minutes, but it's the most valuable 16.5 minutes you can spend if you truly want to understand what's happened, and is happening, in the United States. The fact that it was in reference to Communism doesn't minimize it's importance.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k6KUDv1wzraWhwlBt1

Of course, it won't change anyone's mind. Yuri Bezmenov says that once a person has been fully subverted, they won't believe the truth no matter how strong the evidence or rational the arguments. They've been brainwashed.

But there is a power that can transform a person's full thought life so that they are once more open to the truth. It's the power of the Holy Spirit revealed in the good news about Jesus Christ. It changed Paul the Apostle. It changed me in 1972.

And it's the only real hope we have.

Dr Dougie.........

.......the term "intellectual idiot" comes to mind when reading your drivel. Dr. Adams is not attacking "other" academics, you moron - he is talking about Professor Matteson and one student in particular in this column. Are you so thin skinned that you read into this that he is attacking ALL of academia?

Read it again sport. Contrary to what you may think, it isn't about YOU at all.

Dr Douglas: Idiot and Coward
Okay, "Dr" Douglas, I have read enough of your crap. You, sir, are the kind of pseudo intellectual whom I most despise.

No matter what you read on TownHall, you refer to it as lies, or hate-filled. You never, but never engage in any sort of debate, you simply call names and disappear into the night. You never hang around to defend your position, or take on anyone in discussion. You just post your crap in the middle of the night, and then, smug and satisfied that you have have once again displayed your superior intellect for all of us, the great unwashed, to read and marvel at, have another single malt and go to bed.

You are the type of phony intellectual -- an academic -- who believes that your advanced degree automatically bestows upon you some sort of wisdom that we knuckle-draggers could never hope to comprehend. You, undoubtedly, sit in your cozy faculty lounge, surrounded by others of your ilk, and make snide and contemptuous remarks about anyone with whom you do not agree. And, safe in your self-imagined superiority, feel no necessity of having to climb down from the Olympian heights you imagine that you inhabit, and ever talk with us rabble.

I know of where I speak. I know your type quite well. I work for a major university. Staff, thank God, not faculty. You are the type of person who would never dream of not using your honorific. If someone accidentally calls you "Mr." Douglas, you probably correct them immediately.

"Dr" Douglas, you live in a bizarro world which you actually believe is the true reality. Take your blinders off, you intellectual coward, and come down here and fight.

You disgust me.

Satan's Slaves
Bob Dylan, in 1979 wrote a song "Gotta Serve Somebody" which he ended with the words:
"You're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody.
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody."

As a Christian, I believe he was right, you either serve the Lord or you serve the devil. There are no other choices. Everything else is deception. We as a nation, have for the last 50 years been fashioning idols with our own hands. And we're about to reap the whirlwind. A nation doesn't sacrifice 50 million babies to Molech and remain unscathed. A nation doesn't raise it's collective fist against God and kick Him out of any place in its public life and remain under His blessing and protection.

I've just return from Pamela Geller's Atlas Shrugs site. She starts with the story of Muzzammil “Mo” HASSAN, the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV and moderate Muslim who chopped his wife's head off.

Then she has a photo gallery of Islamic women who had been murdered by family members (honor killings).

It reminded me of a book I had before I was saved. I got rid of it when I became a Christian, but some of the pictures in it are still seared on my memory. It was Dagobert D. Runes "Despotism, a pictorial history of tyranny".

A Godless world, or a world serving the wrong God, is a vicious world.

Jon, not John

According to LACC's website, Assistant Prof. Matteson's first name is "Jon," not "John," as stated by Adams:

http://catalog.lacitycollege.edu/pages/faculty.htm

I only point this out because in their letter on behalf of Mr. Lopez to Dean Jones, the lawyers at the ADF make the exact same mistake:

http://www.telladf.org/UserDocs/LopezLetter.pdf

In fact, Adams culls large sections of text from the ADF letter. It's not quite plagiarism, but only just.

It also seems pretty clear that neither group has bothered to talk to the Prof. If the events in this case unfolded as described by the ADF, then I grant you that Matteson's behaviour was unbecoming of an academic. Still, I wonder whether something's missing from the story...

Percentages
True, the largest percentage of the American population is Christian, but observe the Academe: 80-95% 'liberal/democrat' (self-described), most of whom scoff at Christian principles. Since many of these folk don't have their own children, they influence the rising generation, coercing as they go. This is, once again, not an isolated incident. The ridicule devout students endure is common, but look at the article: when the teacher called on anyone who was offended to leave, no one did.
Most of the outraged demonstrations/protests on campuses have been teacher led. Maybe that's part of the increasingly poor scholarship among college graduates. From whales to gay marriage, something always appears to distract them from actual learning.

I'd like to share
a story of less blatant anti-Christian discrimination. As a mathematics major at a public institution, I had taken calculus, multivariable calculus, vector calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, partial differential equations, discrete mathematics, ans mathematical statistics. I earned high A's in all of those classes, and I received an award for my performance in calculus. I then decided to take an elective course in the history of mathematics. It was very interesting, but all history invilves religion, and the professor took every opportunity to badmouth religion whenever one of the history's mathematicians was a person of faith. Towards the end of the semester each student was to give a presentation on a mathematical subject or a mathematician. Because of my phtsics background, I chose Isaac Newton, the inventor of calculus. One part of my presentation involved Newton's Christian faith. I told the class that since he was the first to demonstrate that the natural world behaved according to precise mathematical formulas, he did not belive that such a universe was the result of random chance. I also spoke of his interest in biblical prophecy, specifically the passage in Daniel involving increases in knowledge. He even wrote a book about prophecy after retiring from his position at Cambridge. The above are historical facts, not my opinions. I received a B for the course, my first B after all those othet high-level courses. Anything lower would have looked suspicious, and the professor knew it, having access to my records. I also would have made a lot of noise, and the professor knew it. I quietly accepted the B and moved on. Wasn't worth it.

Name-calling
"A fateful characteristic of our violent age is the non-violence, the incredible meekness of the victims. Almost without exception, the social scientists are telling us that Americans are at present more violent than they were in the past. Yet anyone who observes the American scene in any big city with his own eyes knows that it is not so. The American man in the street is infinitely less pugnacious, less quarrelsome, and less ready to take offense than he was in the past. We used to fight in the streets, in saloons and on the job. Neighbors used to argue shrilly over the fence and often come to blows! But just now the great majority of Americans are afraid to open their mouths. They will not get into a fight no matter what you call them, and will not get involved even when they see people murdered before their eyes. They are afriad to get angry. The crucial, central fact about contemporary Americans is their timidity - their cowardice."

Are you suggesting that Newton was nuts? That he was a superstitious fool? That you're smarter than he was? I suggest you study classical mechanics, then get back to me.

Dr. Douglas
No ad hominem attacks here...just a couple of questions.

You state that Adams is blowing the incident out of proportion. Please explain to me how a professor calling a student a "fascist b###d" in class and withholding a grade on a completed assignment is justified under any circumstances.

You further make the assertion that this is simply an isolated incident. Please explain to me how many times that incidents similar to this must occur before it becomes wrong.

His grade must have been an A+
And I thought the nutty professors were in the movies! My mistake, they've escaped the asylum and are running wild in the streets. The latest I heard was that King James was ready for the looney bin when he decided to write his own Bible. Therefore, everything in the King James Translation, must be completely disregarded.

No, it isn't easy to be a Christian in today's world. But it's worth it. The treasures of Heaven make up for all the nasty people down here. Keep your heart strong and your eyes on the prize!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Douglas You Are Wrong
College campuses have been devoid of freedom of speech, religious or political, for decades. Perhaps you taught before leftist terror squads squelched that freedom. If so, then I might understand your defense of the professor in the Lopez case.

Lopez's mistake was believing he had speech freedom. Somewhere in his application process there should be a warning to prospective students what can and cannot be said. Then this would have been moot.

If anyone acted like a Nazi, it was the professor.

The grade!
Well, we don't know what grade Lopez will get after this is settled, but I am sure it will be far better than compared to the grade Matteson and Jones will get from God when they are called to His office some day.

Trouble is, all socialists will now be able to label everything hate speech which suits their fancy given the current occupant of the Oval Office!

Hmmmmmm...Internet college is lookin mighty fine, right now!

Don Juan
I find it funny that you think all Christians are drooling.

First and hopefully last!
Colleges for the longest time that I can remember (since the 60's) preached the mantra relativistic: there is no absolute truth, and thus, truth is relative (meaning what's right for you, may not be right for me, and now the dogma has changed to the only truth is that religion is evil and corrupts the mind. A professor, regardless of their own personal views, should allow a student to speak on whatever they profess as true, and the students as well as the teacher have the right to buy into the argument or refute the argument, but he or she does not have the right to say only my thinking is appropriate and yours is not. Isn't that your argument First, the Massachusetts relativist and all you other slanters of the truth? Only my view is correct!

Dr Douglas has done it again!
The dear doctor, once again, trots out the old excuse of rarity. As in:
"Having taught at the university level for over 20 years, I never saw or heard of anything approaching Adam's extreme case. This is not to say it never happens, but my guess is that this is an extremely rare occurrence in the college environment."

He appears to try to make the case that because a given behavior is rare, we shouldn't get our panties all in a wad. So, since I've never killed anyone before, if I happen to do so, it really shouldn't be that big a deal. Do I have that right, doctor?

Then the doctor attempts to justify the "rare" bad behavior by a professor by stating it's far more common for Christian educators to force their beliefs on students. While I'm sure that it does happen, I would question his supposition of frequency. I would also be inclined to believe that those Christian educators who do so are more readily disciplined by their left leaning superiors.

Where have you been hiding? "An extremely rare case"? You must have taught at a Christian university. My sons are in college and it happens all the time. They do not argue with the professors in fear of failing the class. (They have seen that happen also.) Currently, a poli sci professor is constantly bashing Christians and spews the exact phrase about prop 8. I have never heard creation and the Bible taught at any public school or university. I heard the same thing but now that fundamentalism is withering as a political force I suspect that it happens less often

I was in a class once when a student said the phrase "filthy rich" in response to the professor's question. When a few of the students laughed, she was confused about what they found so funny. Being blind to her bigotry, she wore it like a badge of honor. Just like the student, the professor is wearing his anti Christian bigotry like a badge of honor. I just hope, that as part of the eventual settlement, the professor is made to undergo sensitivity training for his bigotry.

"... I have never heard creation and the Bible taught at any public school or university. And you question the validity of Adams..."

well perhaps you should check the philosophy and literature courses which is where they belong?

bigotry
I was in a class once when a student said the phrase "filthy rich" in response to the professor's question. When a few of the students laughed, she was confused about what they found so funny. Being blind to her bigotry, she wore it like a badge of honor. Just like the student, the professor is wearing his anti Christian bigotry like a badge of honor. I just hope, that as part of the eventual settlement, the professor is made to undergo sensitivity training for his bigotry.

FROG and Rat
FROG: Thanks for making a point I was planning to make. Dr. D. drags out the isolated-incident argument so often that he undercuts his own position. In fact, he nearly admitted the delicacy of the ice beneath him when he said of Dr. Adams, "His speciality seems to be smearing other academics."

Well, yeah. Adams says a great deal about academic malpractice, and many of his columns have to do with speech-suppression and anti-Christian bias. How many dozens (hundreds?) of cases are required to establish a pattern?

About all I can add is that so far 9/11 has been, thank God, an isolated incident. We should think no better of it because of its rarity.

Rat: Maybe it's not Baal, but Moloch, who must be placated with child sacrifice.

Don Juan
You have not the foggiest notion of what Newton knew. His knowledge of the universe exceeded that of 99.9% of people today. He was able to use his new invention, calculus, to demonstrate that it gravity had to follow an inverse square law in order to keep the planets in elliptical orbits. I studied the math involved, and it was quite difficult to wrap my mind around, even though it was already laid out in front of me. I am completely in awe of a mind that could come up with what he did on his own. And, once again, his faith was strengthened, not shaken by the revelation that the universe behaves according to precise mathematical formulas. It still does today. More formulas have since been discovered, including the Schroedinger equation, a second-order partial differential equation with complex solutions, and which accurately describes the behavior of subatomic particles. If Newton were alive today, he would have no trouble understanding everything today's physics community understands. Even more equations accurately describing even more of nature than his equations did. He would be very excited by it all, and, since I know much, MUCH more about Newton and his incredible work than you ever will, I can say with a great deal of confidence that you are absolutely wrong. If he were alive today, his Christian faith would be even stronger, because he would see even more evidence of a Creator, i.e., precise mathematical equations accurately describing natural phenomena.

Bozo CUT military spending by 10%?

Naw! Not Bozo! doofass kept telling us how Bozo would take care of the troops....

Truth trumps
My experience as a student included being told by a full professor (during his lecture) that "anyone who believes in god is stupid." I was a Biology major, and have since held faculty positions in 4 institutions. My 20 year experience as a faculty member has included several incidents in which students have vehemently attacked me for posing questions that expose some of the more dogmatic assertions of modern scientific thought. In my role as a member of a university faculty, I walk carefully through the minefield that includes "free speech" and "academic freedom" believing I have the authority, responsibility and honor to speak the truth. Nevertheless, I also read that I will be condemned for my beliefs, and should assume I will be hated because of them (and not because I'm employed in the academy). It's just part of the deal I made. The current and eternal "rest" I have been allowed is far greater a benefit than the mere cost of being ridiculed.

Liberal a-holes
This is a PERFECT example of liberal "tolerance". Just more hypocrisy from the left.

How soon before God will be BANNED from

all colleges and universities?

With Bozo's Marxist Pork Bill, and all the govt funding... either directly to the schools or via tuition, the ACLU will be pushing to ban God (ie specifically Christianity, of course) under the "separation of church and state" fiasco.

Just ONE MORE of Bozo's plans to make the US a Marxist state.

Why dont you go back to clipping articles out of the newspaper ok? Take your meds and everything will be alright.

back to the future: 1984
In the book, government controlled people by changing the meanings of words. When taliking about Christianity can get one labeled a "facist" by a college professor, one can only worry about the future of our culture.
In politics they talk about not letting your opponent define you. If a professor can call a Christian a "facist bas" when our way of life and our laws are based in Christian thought, you have to conclude that maybe Christian are losing the battle. The professor must have some better ideas about what we should be like. Maybe he would be so kind as to "enlighten" us with more of his laughable bigotry.

Whenever anybody opines that "anyone who believes in god is stupid", I ask them if they think that Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein were stupid? I ask the person if he thinks he is smarter than those two believers. I ask if he has ever studied the work of those two believers.

Bandicoot - reply #30,
Great post! I've got your back, but I doubt you'll need it. "Dr." Dogs#it is just a big phony windbag who enjoys having power over kids looking for a good grade. In the real world his opinions are useless and deep down he knows it. I do enjoy reminding Mr. Douglas of that.

Thank you Dr. Adams
Thank you for letting the public know about these nutty professors. There are way too many no matter what Mr. Douglas says.

schlicty
Derryberry and Matteson are cut from the same cloth.

We must purge them from the universities and send them to Siberia.

Anne
thank you

schlicty:I doubt that with the exception

of some private colleges, these profs are not only on every campus, but there are many on every campus.

And we wonder why more and more parents are homeschooling, and subsequently getting more and more involved in their childrens' choices of colleges and universities.

God is Alive and Well

God had an intervention with me September 6, 1972 - He and I were the only ones in attendance at the intervention.

I was an Atheist/Humanist and a Marxist at age 32 (this went back several generations in my family).

He did NOT ask my permission to have this intervention, BTW.

We had a conversation this morning and He is Alive and Well.

Public schools are that ....
for the all of the public, for everyone. They should have no religion. If you want God in an education, find a private school. In the Netherlands even those are paid for by the government.

Jack from DE
Siberia is a good idea now that global warming has made it warm there. (Another nutty professor agenda.) Paleface Ward Churchill can go too.

Response to Dr Doug
In contrast to Adams'' insinuations, the overwhelming majority of academics are highly objective hard working people who are motivated by a love of knowledge. They do research to discover the knowledge and then transmit it to the next generation of students. It is truly disgusting to see someone like Adams attacking other academics.

One of my former students is now working on her PhD and told me that her research professor admitted that most of the articles that are published are crap, that they are published to meet the "publish or perish" rule for getting tenure. Dr. Doug likes to throw around research terms. In law, my speciality, we like to ascertain a witness' competency before he testifies by asking if he observed what he claims to have seen. I would like to ask Dr. Doug how many classes he has personally observed so that he can make the judgment that this kind of thing doesn't happen.

We all know that "Flyover Country" is what the elites on both coasts call everything in between. They look down on the great center of America like 17th century French nobles at Versailles peering down their noses at the peasants who support them.

It's true; rodents are certainly the objects of much bigotry. Case in point: Rats make great pets. They're inexpensive, they're a great first pet for a child, as a way to teach responsibility, and if you get one when it's really little, and handle it a lot, it will be the friendliest, sweetest little critter you ever saw. No fleas if it lives in a cage with cedar shavings, which is what it will smell like. Still, many people will say all sorts of nasty things about you if they learn that you have a pet rat. I named my last rat Abby Rodent.

Rudolf: NONE of your concern!

You're NOT a citizen, so it's none of your business, and what you "think" about OUR education system doesn't matter.

And AGAIN, if things are so much better in that filthy little porn ridden country of yours, you can return.

Cheers!

Professor Matteson
How did the professor get his job? He doesn't even know the definition of the word fascist.

Fascist- a system of government.
--------characterized by rigid one party dictatorship---------forcible suppression of opposition---------private economics under centralized government control.

This sounds like Nancy's and OBAMA's "change" and "remake" for our country but it does not define free speech and religious discussions.

The professor did forcibly suppress opposition himself.

Anne.
Why are you so threatened by abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, legal sale of marihuana, prostitution, same-sex marriage, teaching of evolution, all of which are legal in the Netherlands?

More Great Reporting
Professor Adams should have a radio show. We will need him when the libs launch the "Fairness Doctrine."

I disagree with one minor point. I do not think these incidents will cause more repression. Rather, students will resist this ignorance. At least that's how I was in college - a contrary little S.O.B.

Love those rats
Doug,

When not studying for a dual degree in Criminal Justice/Legal Studies I work in a medical research center as an animal tech. I get to care for about 500 lovable rats. Most are so huge you could leash them for a walk!!

They ARE gentle and affectionate. They will also nurture the offspring of OTHER rats that may have died from being overbred. They are very social animals and bear no resemblance to the poor creatures forced to eak out an existence in sewers and subways.

Use ground corn cob (1/4" size) cedar is too tempting for them to chew on. Give em a nylabone to gnaw. They HAVE to gnaw or their teeth get too long. They only have four, two upper and two lower.

In the 17th century the Dutch outlawed censorship and with their huge numbers of printing presses all manner of idea flowed like the dam was busted.

This was mostly because they feared a latter day Thirty Years' War which was the last great War of Religion until the Muslim Fundamentalists showed up.

Perhaps candidates of professorships should have to take some sort of test before they become professors to make sure they have open minds and understand speech is protected in the Constitution. Even religious speech. No matter how offensive to him. In the USA we have the right to offend.

Seriously--the American Conservative Party is looking better and better! Have you read their platform?
In addition--beating a dead horse here--PLEASE WRITE all of SCOTUS, separarte letters for each--and put in a big manila envelope and mail to the Supreme Court.
They WILL read those, as they are individually addressed by name.
ASK them to do depositions, ask questions under oath, and demand total transparency of ALL documents requested (i.e. long form birth certificate, passports, citizenship papers, hospital birth records, college records, etc.)
If they, as OUR employees actually DO this--BO will be forced to step down,& all bills signed, (including this spending bill) will be null and void--and we can start over with many good lessons learned, regardless of who actually succeeds him.
I write SCOTUS once a week asking them to do this--why not do the same?

"flyover country"
My daughter is taking an English composition class at a small community college in "flyover country". They were asked if they believed the military was protecting America. My daughter has an aunt and uncle in active duty, and a brother-in-law joining the National Guard. So she raised her hand and said yes, she did believe that. She was publicly chastised, and has been treated with hostility ever since. My other daughter has had similar experiences at a different university also in "flyover country". I really don't believe we're talking isolated incidents any more. Your thoughts and opinions are tolerated only if they conform to the liberal viewpoint

The subject of Dr Adams article occurred at the college level. If you for one second think that some uncouth goth sicko would have received the same treatment had he got up and started spouting his satanic bull hockey, your full of condensed pigeon milk. He/she/it would have been allowed to proceed in the name of tolerance and diversity.

Really a pathetic attempt........
at censorship and indoctrination in the classroom.....if the assignment was over any topic chosen by the student...then why slam the student for following the assignment?......

Here's to Professor Matteson:

"God is in charge of the world....

What kind of person makes a good leader?

He appointed judges throughout the nation in all the fortified cities, and he gave them these instructions: "Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case that comes before you. Fear the Lord and judge with care, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.

2 Chronicles 19:5-7 NLT...

Rudolf Question?

What age children do you want to have sex with?

NAMBLA wants NO age limits - do you agree?

Great line
“Ask God what your grade is.” I love it!

Suppose he used verses from the Hebrew religious text to justify racial segregation or genocide. Same thing. It's unacceptable.

Matteson also has free speech rights. But he has more. It's his classroom.

Pedo-party in NL.
I forgot the best one, in the Netherands there is also the PvdL, or "Party of Love", that is a political party composed of pedophiles. So far they have not been able to obtain a seat in parliament. Their goal is to lower the age of consent from 16 to 12, I believe.

Obama's Priorities on vetting

Barack Obama is vetting the potential 'First Dog' more than he did his cabinet members or the 'Stimulus Plan'.

Barack Obama wants weeks or months to decide what dog to get - but wants his 'Destroy America' stimulus plan passed without anyone even reading the plan.

The rest of the story.....
There is more to this than Adams has said outright. The speech that Lopez gave was an antigay marriage speech.

Here is a link to the news story about all of this: http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_11715360

Headlines Read:
Elite Proffessor Throws Classroom Hissy Fit When Student Exercises His Right To Free Speech.

Funny that no student left the class when Prof Matty allowed them to leave if anyone was offended. When no one got up to leave I can just imagine his face going red and smoke puffing out his ears. Instead of allowing him to continue, he dismisses the class like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum when they fail to get their way.

'a': Obviously you have never taken a

public speaking course...

The point is to learn HOW to be a good public speaker, and the critique is supposed to be on HOW the speech was delivered....

Did the student deliver his/her speech effectively, etc. ???

THE CONTENT or point of view is not what a public speaking course is about!

Swampfox
Thats exactly Adams' point. You can make an antigay marriage speech in a university or college because your 1st amendment rights are not suspended when you walk onto a campus no matterwhat the handbook says. Accordiing to your reasoning we should throw out the Constitution and live by a college student handbook. Well it dont work that way.

Rudolf: Then GO BACK to the Netherlands.

Sounds like you'd fit right into that PvdL!

Do you get my point yet??? You obviously think everything is so much better there... then GO there!

Anne, PA
Apparently the good professor has no idea HOW to deliver or critique a speech.

Two students complained, but didn't walk out of class? Who wrote the letters and have they been provided to Mr. Lopez and his counsel?

Anne.
Sounds like you should take a class in argumentation and how to have a well-written content in your "essays" here.

Bias of Colege Professors Part 1
This Bias of college professors is not a new phenomenon. It has been going on for at least 45 years that I know of.

I am one of the depression era kids, we were lucky to get to go to high school much less think about college. So my college education came late. I was already in my thirties when I started.

I had a sociology instructor by the name of Debagian. A small woman who basically introduced herself as a discrimination victim. One of her first lectures informed us that she constantly suffered from discrimination because she herself was jewish and she had married a native of some sort from the arab countries, so she claimed double discrimination. Her discrimination, if it occurred, was entirely self inflicted. Unless she told someone, no one would have known, suspected or CARED what her nationality was or who she married. She was also a devout socialist/communist and it was apparent in her lectures. As the only adult in her class I constantly questioned some of her socialist leanings and I think I was a thorn in her side, although it was not expressed I felt a lot of animosity, exasperation toward my questions.

One question on her final exam asked "Is a classless society possible?" she expected a yes or no answer. I answered “NO” with this explanation" in a classless society there are no leaders and with no leaders there will be chaos and if chaos continues there soon there will be no society, it will disintegrate and disband. BUT in most societies there will be someone who will step out and lead in some direction, at that point you have a "class" or leader and this indicates there is no possibility of a classless society existing.

Swampfox -- so it's OK, then?
Swampfox wrote: "There is more to this than Adams has said outright. The speech that Lopez gave was an antigay marriage speech."

Is this an argument that Lopez should have been shut/shouted down?

Swampfox is a fascist
And you think the government can stop an anti-gay marriage speech?

Get over yourself, Swampfox.

Anne
you cant talk rationally with "a". What "a" fails to recognize in this case is a person's right to free speech was infringed upon. All "a" can think about is content and how "feelings" might get hurt.

Mike in NC.
Are you the author of this column?

Bias of College Professors Part 2

Her proctor marked it wrong and deducted points for an incorrect answer. Evidently it was brought to Dr Debagian’s attention and she reversed the proctors markings and gave credit for the question.

Although I had been well known in her class for the entire semester, She would never recognize me on campus in the next two full years. Even if greeted she refused to return a greeting.

She had been bested by a student AND SHE KNEW IT.
