Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Editors' note: the following column contains language that some may find offensive.

Readers have been asking me for weeks to write about the voting patterns of college students. I think most of these readers know that Barack Obama was very popular among young people in this election cycle. But most of my readers don’t know why and they would like to hear my insights, if not incites.

In response to these requests, I decided to survey my 100 or so students right after Election Day. I asked them two simple questions: “Who did you vote for (for President)?” and “What was the principal reason for your decision?”

The results indicated that 58% of my voting students pulled the lever for John McCain, 42% for Barack Obama. The fact that this went in the opposite direction of the national trend is easy to explain: Students taking criminal justice classes, many of them criminal justice majors, tend to be more conservative.

I was disappointed to see that some McCain supporters - about 5% - justified supporting him with nothing more than ad hominem attacks on Barack Obama. Examples follow:

“I hate Obama and everything he stands for.”

“I just think Obama is a piece of shit.”

I was somewhat more disappointed to see that even more Obama supporters – about 28% - justified supporting him with nothing more than ad hominem attacks on McCain and Palin. Examples follow:

“McCain is old and senile.”

“Sarah Palin is a nut who scares me.”

“McCain is an idiot.”

“McCain is old, senile, ludicrous, and retarded.”

“Palin is an absolute idiot.”

“Palin is psychotic.”

“Sarah Palin is an idiot who burns books.”

“Sarah Palin is a fucking whack job.”

I was, however, heartened to see that a clear majority of McCain supporters, nearly 60%, gave specific policy reasons for supporting the Republican candidate. This figure did not include those who made vague statements like “I agreed with him on most issues.” The “nearly 60%” figure refers to those who named specific issues. Examples follow:

“I voted against the large scale intervention of government into private markets.”

“I voted for McCain because abortion is a serious issue for me.”

“I voted for McCain because he favors free market capitalism over government control.”

“I am pro-life.”

“I agree with his views on abortion.”

“We badly need a reduction in government spending.”

“We need to finish this war rather than simply withdraw our troops and abandon it.”

“I am a member of the NRA.”

“I agree with his views on both the economy and the war.”

“I believe McCain will support small business and keep the government out of my back pocket.”

“I believe national health care is a bad idea.”

”I voted for McCain because of abortion.”

“McCain was more consistent in his positions on gun control.”

“Spreading the wealth sounds like code for socialist policies.”

“McCain will steer us away from the direction of socialism.”

“I agreed with McCain on abortion.”

“I believe in less government involvement in business.”

In contrast, most Obama supporters – about 54% - failed to mention any specific policy issue while instead focusing on some variant of faith, hope, or change. Examples follow:

“I have faith in Obama’s ability to lead and unite.”

“I was ready for a change.”

“Change will be good.”

“I voted for Obama to restore my faith in America.”

“I was ready for a change.”

“Obama will bring about good changes.”

“This country needs change.”

“Something (change) had to happen.”

“I thought he could bring about the change needed to the nation.”

“He gives me hope.”

I suspect that my students who voted for McCain are lot like others around the nation who voted for McCain. They are seldom inclined to attack political opponents personally. Most also seem to have given the issues – at least some of the issues – some serious consideration as they made a voting decision.

And I suspect that my students who voted for Obama are a lot like others around the nation who voted for Obama. They are much more inclined to attack political opponents personally, compared to their Republican counterparts. Most also seem to have ignored the issues – as they made a voting decision on the basis of vague notions of faith, hope, and change.

But - unlike the protestors of my speeches – I think I have a solution to the problem of emotive and uninformed voting. First, I’m going to politely ask those who voted without considering issues to simply stop voting. After all, most of these people believe that we should work out our differences without force - by using diplomacy, of course.

But if that doesn’t work I am prepared to use force to get people stop voting with their emotions. And today I am announcing plan that will force Americans to obtain a firearm before they are able to obtain a ballot on Election Day.

In my next column I’ll explain just how my plan will be implemented, how it will stop emotive voting, and how it will change the course of American politics.

Great article, Dr. A....
I hope you don't mind me recommending a small add-on that fully agrees with and validates your essay.

Readers should check out the following video for another take on obama supporters. Get the popcorn and sodas ready because this is not just entertaining, it's complete hoot! (I'm finally past being depressed about willful voter ignorance.)

It's presented by a website called, "How obama got elected". Enjoy, folks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53C2-b8BOLs&feature=related

Now who's degrading the culture?
I'm really amazed that such language should show up on Townhall! I always knew you were edgy for your fringe politics, now you're just plain vulgar.

Do students actually have to PAY to get into your classes? That's some scam you got there.

What kind of survey is this?
This guy is supposed to be a professor but his research leaves a lot to be desired.

His sample is worthless: It's too small and clearly misrepresentative.
His questions are a waste of time: Why not collect more objective, quantifiable data.
He simply cherry-picks responses to push his agenda.
His statistics are misleading. He compares 60% vs 54%, but since he doesn't run the appropriate test, we don't have any idea whether this is a real (significant) difference or not.

I've been in academia 25 years and I've never seen anything like this.

Don't listen to your critics...
Professor Adams - don't take your critics to heart. As you know, liberal-left types reflexively attack those with whom they disagree rather than engaging their arguments. And - most liberals lack a sense of humor - funny, given what they look at in the mirror each morning, wouldn't you say?

Dr. Douglas, precisely what is your field? Bragging about being a 25-year academic is, by the way, not something to brag about on a conservative website, just for your information. What is it about some academicians that leads them to flaunt their credentials when entering an argument, as if waving their doctorates in our faces will somehow cause us to abandon our arguments? All those bits of paper mean nothing; only the content of your arguments and their rigor means anything at all. And to anyone tempted to brag about being graduate-school educated, let it be said that our "best and brighest" have made some of the worst decisions in our history, and that Abraham Lincoln did not attend college. Finally, the author does not at any time claim his survey is in any way scientific, so relax and quit hyperventilating like a scared child.

DDL: So you are unhappy that Professor Adams surveyed his students voting habits? That's all well, but have you been equally outraged by the 1000s of liberal-leftist profs who've done the same over the years? If not, then I'd say you are nothing but a hypocrite. No one held a gun to anyone's head (and Adams has got them, believe me!) over participating in this; it was voluntary.

Nothing New
Thanks Dr. Adams, but I don't think this is news to any TH regulars. For the last few months I've asked every Obama supporter I could find to explain why they were voting for Obama. "Hope" & "Change" were the only responses I ever received. It would actually be hilarious if it wasn’t so disturbing and depressing.

Note to Douglas: I’m sure you enjoy your perpetual frat boy status and goggling at sexy coeds all day, but you really need to leave your protected and isolated world of academia – a dash of reality will do you good.

OMG !

Geeze!

Do I see an empty field here?

The lefties are way down. Did 'Georg Soros' pull all his funding?

What is wrong with this picture?

Only 3 'wobbie' posts?

No 'tr' posts?

Libtard?

Left dangle?

What is happening?

Oh. Shoot! I forgot. 'Georg Soros' succeded in causing the economic meltdown, as he did in two other countrys and no longer needs the "Useful Idiots".

Dang. They do be outta werk, so sad...

I think you're onto something....where the hell is Will?

Not like him to miss a Adams' column and a chance to tell us how we're all hateful homo bashers.

Ill get Wills attention!
Homosexuals suck!(literally and figuratively speaking)

Dr. douglass and dLL
are you both dull? he told us already that people in criminology tend to be conservative. he also writes commentary that is supposed to be funny! get a sense of humor! if he wanted this to be a "scientific" poll he wouldn't be putting it in an article. I dont know if know, but Dr. adams is conservative so the responses of course are selective and subjective. I know Ive come across plenty of "professors" like you. Arrogant SOB's convinced of their own superiority. you probably take rush limbaugh seriously all the time too. do me a favor , learn about satire and sarcasm, and remove that pole from your butt!

Proving the point
Thanks DDL and Dr Douglass. You have managed to prove Dr. Adams point.

DDL,Douglas, and royinosio
I have found it so funny watching liberals go nuts like you three. I have found it is so easy to get liberals freaked out. All you have to do is state the truth. It drives them crazy because they have no way of supporting or disputing anyone else's views, except cursing and screaming. I have been the judge of elections at my polling place for years and guess what the internet video being put together showing Obama supporters way less aware of issues or anything else to do with government or the world is true. I have so many democrats that come up to me before voting and ask me who is running and even who they should vote for. It is unbelievable. The democrats this time at my polling place even had pictures of Obama and McCain on their literature showing which one was the democrat and which one the republican. I knew how bad it was but even that made me shake my head.

Liberals are Ignorant

"Ignorance is the mothers milk of Liberalism." Retired Geek

When someone defends the babies that are left to die after an abortion attempt, at least demanding pain medication, those defenders are called 'RADICAL EXTREMISTS'.

When someone says that the 'Assimilation of Diversity' = unity.
E pluribus unum, Latin for "Out of Many, One"

Liberals say that is ignorant, that 'Diversity alone = unity".

Liberals say that 'Deviant sex is normal'.

Liberals say that removing Fathers from poor families, builds better families.

Liberals say that - "death = compassion" at the tune of 400,000 per year.

Liberals say anything that destabilizes, defiles, sabotages, weakens, disrupts, impairs, or in any way undermines American capitalism, is progress.

Survey says

Firstly, it seems to me that on the question of who based his choice principally on a specific issue rather than "emotion", the divide in Adams' survey is not all that great - "nearly 60%" to 46%.

More importantly, Adams makes a critical mistake in deciding whether a respondent's vote was "emotive and uninformed" - a respondent's principal reason is not his only reason. I suspect that if the students had been asked to list their top five reasons for voting for McCain or Obama, nearly all would have included substantive issues.

The fact that some Obama supporters cite a campaign slogan as their chief reason for supporting him probably speaks more to his charisma than anything else – in any case it certainly does not make them uninformed or emotional.

Royinoslo, awwww ....
did the big bad "F" word cause an emotive meltdown? Maybe a jigger or two of Siky Glacier Ice will help ease your tattered sensibilities.

What, you didn't see the warning POSTED IN BOLD LETTERS at the beginning of the article. Besides, these were not Dr Adams words. He was merely forwarding the thoughts of his students, that wonderful group of young people who will be leading our nation in 20-some-odd years.

Liberal Genius?

Maxine Waters, a US Congresswoman (D-Calif) made at a Pro-Abortion Rally in Washington, DC on 4/25/04: "I have to march because my mother could not have an abortion."

Irresponsibility,
Voting based on knee-jerk liberalism or knee-jerk conservatism is equally reprehensible.

Anyone who is not willing to carefully evaluate issues and candidates is too lazy and careless to be in charge of making decisions that affect everyone.

I did not vote for McCain, I voted against Obama -- because I knew enough about McCain to know that he is, at heart, a centrist Democrat driven from his natural party by the leftist fringe and because I knew enough about Obama to know that he is a dangerous socialist who has never held a real job in his life.

We need some voting reform -- killing early voting and strictly limiting absentee voting, requiring photo ID and proof of residence, even an Iraqi-style finger-dyeing to prevent people from voting more than once (has that guy who confessed on camera even been investigated yet?), and strict, uniform rules about the handling of ballots to prevent the nonsense about ballots being "lost" and rediscovered.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next column, but I fear that there is no Constitutional means of restricting voting to people who are willing to THINK about their choices.

The arrogance of youth
Yeah, we've got to let 18 year olds vote. Anyone old enough to serve in the miltary gets to vote. Period.

But...youthful voters have the same huge faults as youth in general. A lack of experience, combined with a propensity toward emotionalism and idealism. Some will say idealism is great, and that we should have more of it. I disagree.

Idealism is the enemy of pragmatism. I remember clearly my time as an undergraduate and the youthful idealism during Jimmy Carter's campaign (I will never lie to you). Lacking experience, the young tend to see issues as black & white; without complexity or nuance. And being emotional, they're particularly susceptible to sloganeering and simplistic arguemtnts. And, being idealistic, they tend to be drawn to the Left which promises utopianist solutions.

So, yeah they get to vote. But the fact that their age demographic tends not to show up on election day is OK with me. Just fine with me!

The Liberal Doth Vote Too Much, Methinks
Barack Obama is President now - I did not vote for him. My hope is that his pursuits are tempered with the reality of the position, his appointee’s utilize commonsense in their decision making process, do not abandon the 2nd amendment - and that we can hurry up to the next election in two years and capitalize on the fact that Nancy Pelosi and the crew currently in charge of congress is deposed in two years.

I witnessed a You Tube survey of Obama voters - the black individuals I can understand them being overwhelmed by him being a black candidate. However there were a couple white individuals that shared their lack of intelligence - making me realize that I was blessed that my own offspring did not turn out to be as stupid as these individuals seem to be, I am not reflecting this comment or insinuating Barack is Stupid – because he is not, I just oppose his political ideals. I am stating that there were questions presented to these two specific individuals that you had to know in order to proceed to your senior year in high school it was called the constitution test and these two seem to have no clue to the answers. If I were a parent to these two in particular I would tell them to run in the opposite direction anytime in the future they saw a camera man or a reporter - that way they will not have to explain their stupidity.

Where Goeth Will?
It is rare that Will has not been here yet to deposit the stain of homosexuality on this discussion.

Labeling
I believe it is time for the COnservatives to stop using the term Liberal. Most of them think that is all you have to do to defeat an opponent - label them a liberal. Somehow we have got to make politics more specific - specific to the point of arguing ideas. We should identify the ideas the opponent has - then tear those ideas apart. People are tired of the liberal label. When you think that only 39% of the voters would be proud of the "liberal" label - as that is the number of self described Democrats - the other 13% of those who voted for Obama - probably don't like that label. Ideas would have won the election for the Republicans - if only our candidate had expressed any!

A cure to the youth vote
would be to only allow those who enlist to vote. all others should wait until they are 21 or better yet 25. This should be even if a draft is ever instituted.

Sharkie
You're absolutely right. We should stop using the term "liberal". "Liberal", like "gay", is a nice word that has been usurped to mean something totally unrelated to its orginal meaning. For example, as a government employee, I'm very happy - you might almost say gay - when I hear that a "liberal" leave policy is in effect.

I was going to suggest using the term "blooming idiots", but then, somehow, the word "blooming" would soon be corrupted, I'm sure, just like "gay" and "liberal".

How about "effing idiots"?

How about voter fraud???
From my blog:

From Hans Christian Anderson. Inchworm

ACORN, ACORN
Altering what voter's told
You and your arithmetic
Stinks like an abattoir

(chorus)
One and One are Four
Four and One are Eight
Eight and Two are Sixteen
Stealing more votes! ACORN's dirty too

Franken, Franken
Minnesota's loser boy
You and your arithmetic
Votes for you are bizzarre

(chorus)

Just like, Barry
He had ACORN on his side
They and their arithmetic
He'll probably be czar

ACORN, ACORN
Disenfranchised!
Voter Fraud
When will voters stop and see
How dangerous you are?

Too many people vote
The old adage about "those who rob Peter to pay Paul may always count on Pauls' support" is the mindset we are growing in this lawsuit sown and American Idol fertilized atmosphere. I would propose three changes to our National voting laws:
1) No hard, tamper-resistant, verifiable ID - No Vote. Period. Yes, this disenfranchises the illegal voter, the felon, the multiple voter and fraud - in other words, primarily democrats. (I come from just outside Philthydelphia - another base of fraud where 105% of the voters routinely elect the darker candidate. Racist? Prove me wrong and then call me a LIAR!)
2) If you received a government handout - especially welfare - even ONCE in the last year - you do not vote this year. Enough with people to "Vote" to steal with the governments authority.
3) Representatives of the major parties to prepare a set of questions on the candidates ISSUES to administer PRIOR to voting. You don't pass with at least 50% - you don't vote. I am disgusted with people who think that Moe Larry and Curly are the three branches of government, and wouldn't know Sarah Palin from Britney Spears are disenfranchising ME.
Elitist? Tough!! - I'm trying to keep my JOB!

Dr. of What Douglas? Liberal Arts?
Dr. Adams' poll is as "scientific" as most political polls. A random selection of 100 students (a random selection of 100 likely voters?) and asked for their opinion. It seems to me that pollsters use the same process to get their stats. The only difference is that his questions were short and to the point, something most liberals can't deal with.

The Pathetic Liberal
"If you're a good enough organizer, panderer, and BS artist, you can get elected against a truth teller. No one wants to believe reality when they can look forward to 'hope' and 'change' especially 'change' that will energize 'hope' and 'hope' that'll bring about 'change.' Wow! I feel like dancing amongst the daffodils, don't you?" --comedian Dave Weinbaum

The "yes, we can" slogan repeated a trillion times and my favorite on the derisive laugh scale, "I promise to deliver" will come back to haunt him, sooner rather than later. And the liberal dupes bought it!

The democrats specialize in capturing the uninformed, easily duped voters. That's one more reason illegal immigration is a looming danger to the country. The dems will give them amnesty and citizenship in exchange for their vote for the next three generations. And with that demographics’ minimum of four kids per family, the dems can rest easy.

I personally have huge reservations about the president elect’s beliefs and motivations. I don’t believe he truly holds The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution as sacred. I believe he sees these venerable masterpieces of freedom, liberty, and conservatism as something “whities” came up with and are to be interpreted to advance his socialistic and race-based agenda.

You Gave Yourself Away
Dr. Douglas, if you haven't seen small sample sizes, time-wasting questions, cherry-picking, and misleading statistics, then you are clearly a stranger to academia and an imposter.

Retired Geek

"Whack job", etc.
"Sarah Palin is a whack job" is an inelegant way to say that McCain's judgment was terrible. Was he mesmerized by her good looks and fawning devotion? Did he think a pretty VP was going to appeal to women? (think: Dan Quayle). She fired up the born-again base, but they were going to vote for him anyway. Then, when asked about her qualifications, claiming that he had sought her counsel frequently--come on, he had met her a grand total of two times before announcing her as his choice. (And what counsel could she have given?--the Katie Couric interviews showed her utter ignorance of national issues.

Why couldn't Palin have talked, SPECIFICALLY, about what proposals McCain had instead of the stupid stuff like "Obama pals around with terrorists"?

McCain voted, repeatedly, to deregulate the banks. I'd like to see him have been honest and admit that this was a mistake. Instead, he talks about "change"--if he wanted change, why has he consistently voted with Bush--except on the subject of campaign finance--for the last eight years?

These students quoted say, with a straight face, that they are anti-abortion---and that they want the government to interfere less in people's business. Ummm--it's one or the other, folks. And if you're against abortion, don't have one.

Alternative
Let's do away with elections, and replace them with lotteries. The names of all citizens over the age of 35, who are not incarcerated, or in mental institutions, go into the database. hen, just as was done by the Selective Service System, names are drawn for the various Federal offices. If your name is pulled, tehn you have to serve in that office, four years for President and Vice President, two years for Representative, and four years for Senator. After you have completed your term, you are out of the database, and never have to serve again. Your employer has to keep your real job open for you, by the way.
Think of the advantages; no constant campaigning, no career politicians, and people have to return quickly to their real jobs, and live with what they have done whilst in office. Could it be any worse than what we have, and are about to get?

T
I have to agree with you 100%.

Philadelphia has such a huge government that all of the tax dollars go to pay beaurocrats.
The parks and schools and libraries and roads are horrible.

The more government employees the more Democrats.

Laura
Obama trained ACORN members to confront bankers, at home and at their banks, in order to FORCE them to make bad loans. Obama sued banks who didn't make enough risky loans. Has Obama admitted that these were mistakes?

McCain tried to get legislation passed which would have reined in Fannie & Freddie and slowed the issuance of bad loans. Whatever "deregulation" there has been had little to do with this bank meltdown.

And how often did Obama vote with Bush? How often did he vote with the Democrat Congress, which fought any tighter regulation of bankers or Freddie and Fannie because it might result in fewer poor people "owning" their own homes?

The survey
First of all, the language in the article is in quotations. For you illiterate illiberals out there, other people said it. (I know English is hard, but really now.)

Second, as to the survey... the good doctor never said the survey was scientific. However, it was performed correctly. By certain rules of statistics (I know, statistics is hard too) the good doctor merely needed a minimum sample size of about 30. (The population under study is not large after all.)

Finally, funny how some people criticised the doctor for his survey, but fail to criticise the media (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the DNC) for promulgating myths and lies about Governor Palin.

Yes, libs do vote too much. But then why should being ineligible or dead or just stupid stop them.

The "learned" were--and are--scariest
At dinner with a successful Harvard-trained attorney (now retired), I did get an answer to the question of why he and his wife would be voting for Obama: Obama had a superior intellect, as evidenced by his Harvard Law School education and his selection as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Law Reviw.

As to Obama's increasing taxes on "The Rich," it is important that taxation is "fair," or at least perceived to be fair.

And McCain's selection of the "unqualified" Sarah Palin, obviously intended to attract the rightest-leaning of the Right, was the last straw.

This couple, by the way, listens mostly to NPR. (As if you wouldn't have guessed.)

Mrs Paddy-IceDog-Rat-Others
THE BOTTOM LINE is that for ALL THE MONEY that Obama spent on youth, 1% more showed up. There is a STRONG Strain of Malleable Uninformedness in Young Folks which is NOTHING MORE than a lack of life experience. That was enough this time around as The McAmnesty McMidget ALIENATED more core base voters than Obama ATTRACTED!

Why I voted for McCain
I voted for John McCain (or, if you prefer, against Barack Obama) primarily because I completely disagree with Senator Obama on experience, abortion, the War in Iraq, taxes, spending, healthcare, affirmative action, patriotism, guns, religion (secularism in particular), racism, immigration, gay privileges, labor unions, the UN, America’s place in the world, the military, military R&D, the accuracy of “Black Liberation Theology” (which concept is separate and distinct from his race – there are many blacks, even on the Left, who do not subscribe to Jeremiah Wright’s bravo sierra), the effectiveness of Chamberlainian diplomacy vis à vis evil dictatorships, and global warming.

Although, I will say his views on the College Football Bowl Championship Series are reasonable, well thought out, and accurate.

Maybe he'd be better suited as President (Or Commissioner, or Supreme Dictator, whatever the appropriate title is) of the NCAA.

Laura
Get our of your jealousy fog. I learned a long time ago that beautiful women can be just as intelligent as ugly ones. Palin is a govenor. She is doing an excellent job for Alaska. She has a good marriage and high standards, she believes human life is sacred. Go jump in the lake.

Prof. Adams
I would not accept foul language from my students. Please next time bleep it out, instead of quoting it. You know we are marching to Gomorrah don't you. Try not to be a part of the parade.

Myths
Dick Morris gave the statistics regarding voters shortly after the election. It exposes a number of myths. The first is that young people voted in great numbers for Obama. The reality is that that group voted - Rep vs Dem - at the same percentages that they voted in 2000 and 2004.
The second is that there was a much-higher-than usual voter turnout. Again, false. The numbers were roughly the same as 2004.
The only group that voted for Obama at a greater rate than in 2004 were blacks, whose Dem vote was 7% higher than 2004.
So what does that mean? It means that middle America, whites, and other "traditional" groups put Obama where he is - not the youth vote.
But Adams point about Dem voters being non-issue based is well made. These people have no idea what they are voting for or against.
At the end of the day, I prefer Neal Boortz's idea - for every $10,000 you pay in Federal income tax, you get a vote. Do that and eliminate the emoters who vote for "hope" or "change" on a whim, and you might have elections that actually correspond to the issues of the day.

Intelligence???
If a person has economic views that have been tried and proven failures (many times over) and supports murder and immorality what can you say about his intelligence and the intelligence of the people that voted for him.

I cannot accept a Harvard indoctrinated communist, con-artist liar, drug addict, criminal Acorn, racist, low-life as my president. The good people in this country deserve better. Too bad most are no longer good.

Yes You Did
Most liberals had no idea what Obama stood for, as evidenced by their puzzlement at his cabinet choices and the excuses they've begun to make for him already.

Everybody Vote??
I've said before, Prior to being registered to vote initially, the applicant must take and pass a basic test to determine said person has at least basic knowledge of the Government structure, Congressional Function/makeup, etc..Maybe something like or identical to the questions asked of folks wishing to become Citizens..After all, U have to be a Citizen to Vote, RIGHT??? Well, Don't U???

What kind of survey is this?
This guy is supposed to be a professor but his research leaves a lot to be desired.
=========
No it doesn’t , he said, “I decided to survey my 100 or so students right after Election Day.” And he did.

He said he surveyed his class, and that 100 students is what makes up his class. He did not say he was running a National Poll, Dr. Idiot.

=====

His sample is worthless: It's too small and clearly misrepresentative.

Absolutely wrong, he said he surveyed his class, and that is the complete sample, there are only 100 students.

=========

The thing that scares me is the single-issue voters, who would force a lady to follow the voters personal code, and completely reject freedom for a pregnant lady. That is sickening.

I would vote for a candidate who never mentioned that word unless a lady he screwed became pregnant, or if the candidate herself was pregnant. No one else is involved and must not be involved.

And I am sorry that this comment will bring out the “hate the lady” comments galore.

What about the rest?
According to your survey 28% of Obama supporters justified their choice by their dislike of MacCain. This means that 72% of them voted as they did because they actually liked Obama. You didn't quote any of them. By the way, many of your students would know that you a conservative commentator and might have given you the answer that you probably wanted to hear.

I suspect you will find this difficult to understand, but I will keep it simple. I don't think anyone but YOU construed his survey as an attempt to extrapolate to the entire population. How stupid can one person be?

In your 25 years of uselessness, have you ever actually looked beyond your own little close-minded view?

You are the poster-person for what is wrong in our schools today.

A suggestion, if I may, for how to raise your awareness level. Get a lobotomy!

By the way, give me one reason for your vote for Obama.

re: sjpatejak
Wow, you must be the product of a public school education. He was quoting them in the 60% who vote for Obama without a clue about his policies or what he'd actually done while in office or what he was doing before he was elected to public office. One would assume the other 12% were actually voting for Obama based on his record using their own research and their brains. Obviously you have 28% who didn't vote for Obama but voted against McCain/Palin, 60% who voted for Obama because of a campaign slogan (which interestingly he's flush down the dumper before he's even taken office), and 12% who voted for him because they like what his policies and actions while in office. That's pretty clear in the article. But I guess you need to cycle back through that RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) course again.

Mike Adams understands the American vote
Zogby did a poll shortly after people cast their ballots and came up with quite similar results that those who voted Democratic did so because they were uninformed, biased against America[probably from their professors]
activists in ACORN, and the"blame America first" crowd.
Having the first"black" president cases some people to feel good about themselves without reason and they voted thusly.

Obama President 'Firsts'

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to start his political career in the home of an 'unrepentant terrorist', who was dedicated to the destruction of America.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to be supported and endorsed by the Communist Party USA.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to be a member of a 'Racist Church' (23 years), which preached 'Hatred of America' and 'Black Separatism'.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to support, champion and defend 'Partial Birth Abortion'.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to support, champion and defend the 'Torture of American Citizens', babies who have survived abortion and are starved to death and denied any medical aid.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to hire two Communists to blog on their official campaign site.

more people register to vote

Whenever I read an article that says we must have more and more people register to vote, I’m reminded of the 1956 “Man on The Street” program, shown on national TV.

The lady being interviewed didn’t know there was an election underway, she didn’t know the name Eisenhower, or Stevenson, and didn’t care to know.

As could have been predicted, the very next day the same news program carried pictures of the Democrats registering the lady to vote.

Oh, and by the way, that registered ignoramus was then eligible for jury duty! Would you want her, and others like her, to pass judgment on something you did, or even more important, on something you didn’t do?

William
"not hinder the love we have for him"

Well of course it won't hinder your love for him...you don't think...you feeeeeel like he will be a good president.

The Words Change and Experience

A word we heard to the extreme during the campaign was CHANGE. McCain would have won if he had said, “I hate Change, Cindy hates Change. We have nothing to fear but Change itself. I am always in favor of IMPROVEMENT. We have nothing to fear from Improvement.”

One of the words used the most during the past election was “EXPERIENCE.” It was applied to members of both campaigns, and was screamed over and over. The Alaskan Sweetie didn’t have the experience the Demo Hate Machine, and their cohort MSDNC thought she should have. And of course many on the right truthfully pointed out that Obama has spent little time in Government. So we all know that the most important word for a job hunter is EXPERIENCE.

But now that the financial mess is overwhelming all of us, no one is saying that even with the centuries of education and millennia of experience of all the millions of bankers, brokers, lawyers, economics, and politicians, experience has not been a bit of help for this financial problem. Obama has the least experience, and he has been the most successful.

Those millions of experienced idiots have billions of man-years experience, and they have failed mightily. Don’t tell me that there was no way to know this was going to happen, and that they knew of no way to stop it before it got here.

Storo, I prefer Neal Boortz's idea too
Fair TAX, no income tax to base that voter qualification on! I do however support the idea that only those that pay into the system, get to have a vote in how that system functions.

No pay, no play!

Mike, keep tweaking the twerps, it is so much fun to read their screeds as their panties get all bunched up!

In Defense of Palin
My feeling for the continuing denigration campaign of Sarah Palin is a reaction to her electrifying presence at the campaign events. The left knows she can muster enthusiasm. She speaks to core beliefs but her enemies want to “brand” her with negative stereotyping to remove her as a future threat. It’s not enough to attack her political stance which resonates with Conservatives and is good for the country but they seem to have a perverse need to attack her personally because they know these things may unconsciously stick and be associated with her persona, true or not (usually NOT). Sick, SICK people! Those stone throwers within her own party, really back stabbing wimps, should be purged with extreme prejudice from ever being involved with any GOP campaign.

First of all, the only philosophy required for the presidency is what the Constitution represents not what B.O. is about which is philosophy that is completely at odds with our Nation’s venerable document. Second, the governor had more experience than the pretender. Her record as a decision maker measured by real results put her easily head and shoulders above B.O. and she’s not even the head of the ticket. Her superior character, unquestionable associations, energetic/electrifying manner, solid conservative values, and being in touch with her constituency in her state and much of the country all trumped the pretender whose only qualification we know for sure is that he knows how to manage his image which includes slinging the same B.S. for two years to the gullible sheep he exploited. Hello! Is there any sanity left on the planet?

Oh no Mr. Bill!!!
I want the voting age up to 25!!! I want the skulls full of mush out of the garage apartment and working for 4 years at least before they can vote.

They love to vote ice cream for everyone when THEY don't think they'll have to pay for it. Well I have to milk the cow along with you.

After they've been grabbing the ankles and seeing their incomes RAPED to support the worthless and indolent and pay the salaries of useless gov't. "busy-workers" THEN let them vote. Make sure they know where their money is going. Watch them all turn into conservative.

My neighbors are from Gambia. The daughter is about 23 and in graduate school for an advanced nursing degree. Just mention taxes to her and she goes ballistic!! "What more of my money to pay for people to sit home?" is her usual response.

One good point
that Mike brings up in this article. In every election there are uninformed voters either too lazy or stupid to pay attention to issues. Obviously, in this election, Obama won the lions share of those voters.

like many conservatives
adams does not do well with facts.

he draws conclusions from his class which knows he is conservative and some, at least, more than likely told him what they think he wanted to hear.

to make the argument that obama voters were more on the attack is silly.

every poll taken suggested americans thought mccain was more negative.

now, i am sure some conservatives will say "yea but the media was in the tank for obama>"

that still does not change the fact that mccain was more negative and i won't even get into palins attack dog speeches.

now who's the 'wack job'?
"plan that will force Americans to obtain a firearm before they are able to obtain a ballot"

The most imaginative left wing comedian could not come up with a more exaggerated spoof on reactionary right wing lunacy. Keep it up guys, after 2010 and 2012 the Republican Party will be nothing but a memory.

Mike's Plan.
Dear Mike Adams, I am excited about this plan you speak of. It makes me feel hopeful. We need a change. I trust your ability to lead me. Just kidding, that was the illuminati liberal in me talking. But I do want to hear more about your plan to keep emotional voters away from elections. By the way, the republican part of me is skeptical and wants to know where you stand on abortion.

"Doctor" Douglas
I have 75 PhDs in every field of acedemia, and in my expert opinion, you are as much a doctor as my 2-year-old niece.

That you can't comprehend that Dr. Adams had no intention of conducting anything resembling a "scientific" survey is irrefutable proof that you are litterally too stupid to call yourself a "doctor".

sataniclib yet again is a moron
"to make the argument that obama voters were more on the attack is silly."

Yes, yes, we know. Any fact you don't like you call "silly".

"every poll taken suggested americans thought mccain was more negative."

Who's talking about McCain? Dr. Adams ISN'T talking about McCain, or Palin, or Obama. He's talking about those who voted your them, you monumental dolt!

Allow me to give you some friendly advice: Before yet again demonstrating that you are dumber than dirt, how about turning your brain to the "on" position?

We elect a leader

Quit hollering about my Alaskan Sweetie. She is a leader, she does not need to know all those things you talk about.

We elect a leader, not a doer.

Everyone talks about electing a leader. The next thing you hear is, can the candidate plow a field, drive a tank, conduct an appendix operation, can he/she blow the tuba in the US Marine Band, can he/she build a railroad track, can he/she do this or that.

Remember, we are electing a leader, not a doer. Watch the Drum Major, does he blow the right notes on the tuba, does he clash the cymbals at the right moment. No he does neither, he is the leader. Watch the coach of a football team, how many points does he score, how many tackles does he make. None. Watch the farmer as he plows the ground, and plants the seeds. He leads the horses, he does not pull the plow.

We must elect a leader who can appoint a staff of people who will select the best person to blow the tuba, to clash the cymbals, score the points, and plow the field.

Most people, including me, loves to remember JFK, who was considered a great President. But no one remembers what he did. All I remember is that the worst thing he did was appoint Bobby to anything, and the best thing he did was make love to Marilyn Monroe, my favorite Hollywood lady.

The most important job the president does, is nominate, promote, and appoint 30,000 people who will actually run the government. And if the president is a Rep, those people tend to be more conservative than the people appointed by a Demo, especially judges.

His term will last only 35,000 hours. Can you imagine any person, either alive or imaginary, who knows all about everything? So all you single issue ding-dongs, get lost.

We elect a leader, he/she appoints doers.

This should
be very interesting.

And yet some more of the previous

Quit complaining about my Alaskan Sweetie, She knows everything she needs to know, to be President.

A President does two things. Very important things, but mainly these two.

He appoints 30,000 people to manage the 3,300,000 employees, then when the Press arrives, he must remember and point to the appointee who solved a particular problem.

When a President is blamed for something, just remember that most of the millions of employees were in their office (and the coffee shop) when the previous few Presidents were in office.

No President hires three and a half million employees, he inherits them, and they most often have more allegiance to the President when they were hired, than to the one who is now in office.

Do you remember FDR riding in a tank, going to attack the Germans?
No, FDR pointed to General Marshall.

Do you remember Truman building the balcony on the White House?
No, Truman pointed to the carpenter.

Do you remember JFK getting shoes wet while landing on the beach at Cuba?
No, JFK ignored Marilyn Monroe for a few minutes, and pointed to a General Taylor.

Do you remember Clinton paying attention to the lady under the desk? Well maybe that one doesn’t count.
Clinton was already pointing.

The President is the point man. He sees which direction to crowd is moving, then gets in front of them.

That is also true of Presidents of companies.

Do you remember how good Henry Ford was at putting tires on a car

Tom Watson could not count all of his money on his fingers and toes, so he pointed to someone and said, “Built an IBM computer.”

And on and on, you get the idea.

This really scares me
Regardless of the political stances of the students, I find the number of personal attacks, vague, or single-issue statements to be alarming. A working democracy requires people who don't just vote on emotions or single issues.

The person who votes only on abortion or gun rights is as culpable as the person who votes only on personal dislike of a candidate, or for "change" or "hope." People need to get educated, learn to take a wider view, and move beyond party rhetoric to really understand the meaning of the policies candidates stand for.

William is not impressing me
due to his inability to write a sentence with correct spelling and punctuation.

Precisely why I voted for McCain. The types of people who were voting for Obama tipped me off to the quality of their candidate.

Barack the First
More Barack Obama presidential firsts

First to publicly claim he did marijuana and "a little blow."

First to call his grandmother a racist.

First whose wife wrote that she will always support the black community first.

First who openly claimed to pick his friends from the radicals and communists on his campus.

First to claim he hates the white blood of his ancestry.

First to win his first elective office by having three persons of his own party thrown off the ticket by very dubious means.

First to claim the mantel of the "Good Shepherd" by canonizing his father as a poor goat herder.

First secret cigarette smoker.

First to claim military genius by saying the surge in Iraq will be a complete failure.

First commander in chief who openly supported those who called our commanding general in a theater of war a traitor.

First whose self described mentor preached "God D##n the USofKKK."

BTW: Where was the SNL skit with Barack asleep in the pews while the whole congregation is shouting "Amen" to one of the Rev Wrong's anti white, anti USA tirades AKA sermons.

a bunch of points.
1. The voting patterns of students in one class (or even just criminal justice classes) are not automatically representative of college students as a whole, which is what Adams says he is writing about in his very first sentence.

2. While it may be true that criminal justice students are more conservative than the student population as a whole, Adams does not provide any evidence of this. Are there any studies that you can point us to with regard to the political leanings of criminal justice students?

3. It's likely that Adams' students' responses were influenced by the fact that Adams is very open about his conservativism. Just as students in other classes might gear responses to fit the leanings of their liberal teachers (either because they think it will help them get a better grade or they admire their teacher or whatever), Adams' students could lie about their voting behavior.

4. Knowing Adams' political leanings, Obama voters might not have bothered to give full or complete reasons for voting for Obama. I'm sure many are well aware that Adams uses his class as fodder for columns. I know I'd lie in his class for this reason alone.

5. Are professors allowed to ask questions like this? Were the responses given in front of the entire class or privately? Were they done verbally or written down?

Cia,
There's nothing wrong with being a single-issue voter if the issue is big enough and critical enough.

Protecting the lives of unborn babies in danger of being slaughtered for being inconvenient and protecting the freedom that is the birthright of all American citizens are issues that are indeed that big and that critical.

Voting based on such issues is 180 degrees in opposition to voting based on mere slogans and/or the ability to make people feel good.

another point
"In contrast, most Obama supporters – about 54% - failed to mention any specific policy issue while instead focusing on some variant of faith, hope, or change."

Failing to mention they have other reasons to vote for Obama does not mean they didn't have other reasons. Perhaps they just didn't think it any of Adams' business?

I've purchased my (1st) handgun and am anxiously awaiting the next column!

This is all par-for-the-course with liberals.

I don't know how old you are, but do you know who Robert Bork is? If not, Google the name and get an idea of what liberals are capable of doing to an honorable, intelligent, accomplished and descent man.

If that isn't enough, do some research on Dan Quayle, Clarence Thomas or Miguel Estrada as a good starting place.

These tactics employed by liberals should surprise no one. They tried the things on Reagan too, but he was too smart for their game. I can see some of this same savvy in Palin. The best response is to laugh about the attacks almost as if you partly agree with them. This is what Reagan did. He was so disarming that his opponents could not whip up any group to oppose him with any real vigor.

william is known as doofus but maybe you can observe the fact that a person complaining about how democrats treat republicans, starts a post by calling someone who disagrees with him an insulting name.

kind of extreme hypocrisy.

As I suspected all along
the people (or idiots) that voted for Obama are only repeating what the mainstream media has been saying all along. The ridiculous remarks blasting McCain and Palin over petty issues. These immature people didn't care what Obama stands for when they voted, they just claim that they want change. Change of what, who the h...knows. Change your underwear!! Or maybe they want change for the few gays in this county that don't amount up to a pile of beans compared to the majority of heterosexuals. Change to allow even more horrific abortions, as if there aren't enough going on already. These people are traveling into a downward spiral, as the book Romans warns us. We are drowning in this muck that King Obama has been slowing sinking himself. He is so arrogant that he can't see it coming.

a bunch of points.
=============

And one more point, more to the point than yours were.

If you have never read any of his columns before, that’s why you don’t understand. Even if you haven’t read his writings, maybe, just maybe, you have read enough others to get the point.

He does not have the time and space to rewrite all of his ideas, just in case you happen to stop along.

If you saw an article written by any of the millions of members of the Demo Hate Machine, or MSDNC, you would know exactly what their opinion was going to sound like.

So quit your bitching, and learn a little.

o yes all 65 million americans who voted for obama were duped or stupid.

we wanted change from the incompetent bush administration and mccain looked like more of the same.

bush is leaving us with 2 wars, a major american city still not rebuilt and the worst economic mess since the great depression.

the rest of america looks at you and says, why would you not want change.

I hate to respond, because that just encourages more comments from the Hate the Lady bunch, but just try to imagine that any single-issue voter would consider an abortion to be of more importance to the world, than peace and safety.

Here’s the campaign promises of two candidates, which one would you vote for.

#1 Being against all abortions, is my most important promise.

#2 I have the experience to protect us from Terrorists

Remember, you mentioned single-issue.

c.lib
Are you really a chrisitan or is that a coverup? You must be an angry old soul that doesn't know the Bible. If you knew, you wouldn't have been so stupid to vote for the guy. So sorry, you did get duped. Too much mainstream news on the tube?

Jim,
I wouldn't trust a pro-abortion candidate to protect me from terrorism because of his/her disregard for the sanctity of INNOCENT human life.

I would trust a candidate who believes in protecting the innocent from being barbarically sacrificed on the alter of their mother's personal convenience to protect ALL innocents from barbarian aggression.

A person only has one set of morals.

Jim, I understood the point of Adams' column just fine. I didn't, however, find his arguments or methodology convincing and I gave examples of why they aren't convincing to me(my 6 points from 2 posts). Were any of my points factually incorrect? Also, I don't think my posts were at all bitchy. Succint, maybe. If they came across as bitchy, I apologize.

Kathy,
Yesterday or the day before c.lib claimed that Jesus's main message to mankind was to give money to the government so the government could "help" the poor. Since any real Christian AND the members of most Christian-derived sects would know that Christ's message was personal salvation I'd have to guess that the answer is no.

Though, in charity, c.lib may think himself a Christian though having received all his teaching in a church that distorts God's work and preaches the "social" gospel instead of the Good News of salvation. We've had to leave a couple places like that.

C.Lib
I can't recall meeting a Chrisitan liberal...how is that working for you? If you don't have your Bible out yet, please get it and start, it's not too late but if you happend to get hit by a bus and die, then my friend, you had your only and only chance to commit your life to the Lord. One more question, have you been on u-tube listening to Rev. Wright? If you're getting your beliefs there, oh, you are on the spiral...going down.

Dr Adams and his students
Criminal studies students may trend more conservative but it is not reflected in Dr Adams' class. What is conservative about McCain's platform? Keeping government out of business? McCain was first in line to sort out the bailout fiasco.

“I voted against the large scale intervention of government into private markets.”

“I voted for McCain because he favors free market capitalism over government control.”

“We badly need a reduction in government spending.”

“I believe McCain will support small business and keep the government out of my back pocket.”

“Spreading the wealth sounds like code for socialist policies.”

“McCain will steer us away from the direction of socialism.”

“I believe in less government involvement in business.”

These are issues McCain was advocating.

William NJ
You need to do more research than at a website maintained by a group called the "War Resisters League."

Total military spending (including veterans' benefits) is below 30% of the total budget. You (and the site where you got your figures) failed to account for all other spending that does not fall into the "discretionary" spending field.

By the way, it may interest you to know that the military budget, as a percentage of the GDP, stayed below the 50-year average during the Bush years.

The United States ranks 9th among the world's countries in defense spending as a percentage of the GDP.

But you missed the whole point, he was questioning his class of students. What other questions or statistical analysis could he have asked or made? And he never once said that he was making an analysis of anyone except those in his class.

And we hope they were in his class because they wanted to be there, because they knew him and his opinions, not as in so many cases where normal students are forced to spend time having a leftist-liberal professor keeping them awake, while he spews his crap.

He said: Students taking criminal justice classes, many of them criminal justice majors, tend to be more conservative.

I would add: Students taking XXXXX classes, many of them XXXXX majors, tend to be more Liberal.

Fill in the blanks.

If you *don't* want to know what a Christian Liberal thinks like, then *don't* read books or articles by Brian McLaren. (he's a nationally known pastor that got his start here in MD).

I think a lot of Christian Liberals are Christians that got tired of being maligned by the media as "intolerant" and "mean" and thought these Liberals would like them more if they joined this type of movement. (Please like us...) Not all, but some.

Christians have their own issues with small-mindedness. As a divorced single mom, I dealt with a lot of very hurtful ignorance and prejudice in church(es) and Christian school environments. It was maddening how controlling, insular, and judgmental some people could be. I can see why some Christians walk away and head for places that are more accepting.

But that still never drove me to concluding we need to "spread the wealth around," even when I was pinching pennies 25 days out of every month. No thanks--I'd rather make it myself!

Husker2
you made me LOL...good one. I wonder if I offened him/her and they left the sight to go read more about their "messiah", trying to justify how the h... he got elected. I saw a large group at the White House the night of the election and I've never seen such an immature bunch of goofs. There was a group that looked totally high, sweating, oh what a sight that was. I guess that's why they voted for the dork, they think life is one big party, wait until reality hits them this coming January.

Lisa
I'm sorry you had to go through that. I really don't understand how people can't realize, "there goes me, except by the grace of God". I know so many Chrisitans that have gotten divorces for very very good reasons and bibilcal reasons. We are to love our brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope you find a church that is more accepting and less critical of your situation. My daughter just went through a divorce a year ago and it's a very long process, I know. Sorry all for getting off the subject.

Kathy
You said, 'I'm sorry you had to go through that. I really don't understand how people can't realize, "there goes me, except by the grace of God".'

This attitude has always perplexed me. It's nice to be appreciative and thankful for what you have, but there's a lot in the world that isn't driven by God or his grace. Unless I'm simply misunderstanding your statement as another way of saying, "sometimes people have bad luck and bad things happen," then the good things that happen to you are usually lucky or a result of your efforts.

Likewise, bad things are often the results of chance, bad intentions of others, or mistakes you've made.

NEWSFLASH this just in

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. It is only by God's grace that I have anything at all, whether it be a healthy child, a warm house and ,including the air we breathe. I'm not putting anyone down by this saying. What I mean to say is that none of us can boast about what we have, it's a gift that we recieve by God's grace, not our own merit.

jim
But you missed the whole point, he was questioning his class of students. What other questions or statistical analysis could he have asked or made? And he never once said that he was making an analysis of anyone except those in his class.
--------------------------------------

While most of his column was about the opinions of his 100 students, he then went on to speculate that they are indicative of other populations. He also prefaced his 'study' by acknowledging he has been asked about the voting patterns of college students and young people. This can be seen by the following quotes from the column:

a. "I think most of these readers know that Barack Obama was very popular among young people in this election cycle. But most of my readers don’t know why and they would like to hear my insights, if not incites.

In response to these requests, I decided to survey my 100 or so students right after Election Day."

b. "I suspect that my students who voted for McCain are lot like others around the nation who voted for McCain."

c. "And I suspect that my students who voted for Obama are a lot like others around the nation who voted for Obama."

As a social scientist, Adams must be aware that the results from a flawed sampling of a small group of people are not representative of larger populations. Yet for some reason he speculated that his findings are representative of larger populations. This would be fine if he were to acknowledge the flaws in his study or acknowledge or possible conclusions or outcomes. However, as it is clear from reading Adams quite reqularly the last few year, Adams is not interested in being factual or truthful in his political writing. I can only hope, for the sake of his students and those that might use his research and publications as background material for their own research, he is more concerned with truth in his academic work.

what i hope
"And we hope they were in his class because they wanted to be there, because they knew him and his opinions, not as in so many cases where normal students are forced to spend time having a leftist-liberal professor keeping them awake, while he spews his crap."

I would hope that his students and any other professor's students take classes so they can learn about the subject of the class and not because of the political leanings of the professor. I say that in regard to conservative and liberal students and faculty.

Hear hear
I suggest that all who vote should be required to take a short civics quiz, and also to explain why their candidate of choice is the better pick with better policies. If that had been implemented this election cycle, McCain would have WON!!!

Kathy
Thanks for the clarification. It's certainly an attitude that I can't understand then. I see people receiving things from their merit or lack of merit all the time. Merit does not always equal success, of course, but their own thoughts, decisions, and efforts had an impact on what happened to them.

I don't understand what one gains by viewing oneself as a puppet whose every move, breath, and life event plays out before them with none of their own input. It seems to preclude responsibility for one's own actions, which is a key tenet of conservatism.

For the intellectually challenged...
...liberals (but I repeat myself).

The difference between 60% and 46% IS quite large (in context as you'll see below).

No, the data does NOT support the assertion that 72% of Obama supprters voted for him because "they liked him"; as is clear, a response saying "I disagree with McCain's stance on aborton" would not have apperaed in the 28%.

One point of interest. Simple math: 60% of the 58 students who voted for McCain did so on the issues not counting those who said merely that they "agreed with McCain on the issues"; 54% of the 42 students who voted for Obama mentioned no mention any policy issue, so 46% did.

So, of the 54 students who took the time to identify a specific issue as a reason for voting, 35, or nearly two-thirds, voted for McCain.

Two unrelated corrections: First, WW2 DID NOT "allow[] for exponential growth in the American economy". Instead, the economy was able to grow by leaps and bounds after the incredible damage done by Hoover and FDR. And second, yes it is particularly tragic that some people are ignorant enough to believe that Willie Horton was not a legitimate issue and that the Swift Vote Veterans for Truth were shown not o be truthful.

Hey Kathy
You wonder, you “offened”, you never, and you guess. Thank you for clarifying your view of the world.

Charleton Heston ....Your sense of irony

When you wrote the above to ChristianDib under the screen name of Charleton Heston, were you aware Mr. Heston was an admitted homosexual because of the delicious irony or are you just as stupid as you sound?

You come to criticize,

While most of his column was about the opinions of his 100 students, he then went on to speculate that they are indicative of other populations.
=========

And you are still wrong. He did not say his students were indicative of the others, but that the others were indicative of his students.

What he was doing was comparing his student’s responses, to the responses he had read and heard about other people, as reported a million times on TV and in print.

I think one of the stories in my Book of Gems might apply. Just change the reference to travel, to reading articles on the Internet. You come to criticize, and on and on … … … .

it is amazing
that the point of adams column is how mean and insulting liberals are while some conservatives posters here trashs and demean liberals.

are you telling me you have never met a presbyterian, american baptist, or methodist

all those denominations and more are Christin liberals.

you might want to check the mirror for the log in your eye or maybe think of the scripture that says "judge not, lest you be judged."

i believe the morals of the republican party are no better than democrats.

you support a party that believes in torture.

do you believe Jesus Christ condones torture?

you belong to a party that supports capital punishment.

a majority of Christian denominations think that is immoral.

you support a party that favors the rich over the poor.

this is in direct contradiction to the teaching of Jesus Christ.

any questions?

Looking Forward to Part II
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I love reading the Liberal whining over your columns (why do they even come here) and can't wait to read the next installment.

first, we come here because it is a townhall and americans believe in free speech.

do you?

next, i personally come here to have my views and opinions challenged.

how is it fun or educational to go to express opinions to others who share the same point of view as you.

don't you want to hear what the other side has to say or are you scared your own beliefs might not stand up to scrutiny.

Stereotypes
The common thread among those who put together stereotypes is that conservatives are mean-spirited, jealous, racist, greedy, and full of hate. Mike Adams' column; recent documented books that talk about charitable giving, books that talk about how high-profile liberals do what they can to avoid taxes, and Al Franken suggest something entirely different. I've experienced a lot of extremists in my life, and by a wide margin the liberal extremists have been the more bitter humans. The Liberal extremists I've experienced are the ones who secretely loathe the boss more, they mock those of lesser intelligence more, and they are more apt to despise their fellow man for no reason at all. Perhaps it is because I live in a red state and the liberals in my state are in the minority, but I've never seen them walk through their daily life with the sounds of "Imagine" as their soundtrack.

Me: But if you go to Huffpro and other leftie hate blogs, they don’t believe in Free Speech.

don't you want to hear what the other side has to say or are you scared your own beliefs might not stand up to scrutiny.

Me: Go to most any story on HuffPro, and you can read a thousand comments, and none are “Free Speech,” all are Hate Speech, just like MSDNC, and the Hate America Radio Network.

Me: You can read and hear more hate there in 20 minutes, then you would have heard on Rush in 20 years.

Nice Article
Mike, great article. I can't wait to see what your plan entails. It really makes me mad that my informed vote was cancelled out by so many uninformed (change) votes.

i have been thrown off redstate.com for being liberal, and i never curse or insult others.

if you go to slate.com you will find a center/left site where all political persuasions are allowed to post.

both sides have their own hate speech.

mark levine and michael savage are not open to civil discussions with liberals and call them names.

savage calls for liberals to be eliminated or put in "re-education" camps on a weekly basis.

Hate speech, mostly from the left, MSDNC

I wouldn't spend my time looking it up, but would you like the see the list of the times someone screamed at a speaker or wrote or spoke hate speech?

I bet the Liberal side has done that thousands of times, but it is rarely done by normal intelligent people, otherwise known as Conservatives.

Let's do away with elections, and replace them with lotteries.

The names of all citizens over the age of 35, who are not incarcerated, or in mental institutions, go into the database.

Then, just as was done by the Selective Service System, names are drawn for the various Federal offices.

If your name is pulled, then you have to serve in that office, four years for President and Vice President, two years for Representative, and four years for Senator.

I agree this would be far superior to our present system, Re: Buckley's list of the phone book.

But...

I would like to add that, the "Lottery" stipulation must include, a quiz on what the Constituion states, the bill of rights, and naming of three Past Presidents of EACH of the Democrat, Whig, and Republican Political Affiliations.

If you do not know your history, why should you repeat it?

Any single error here should be questioned closely.

AHA! Voila! We have narrowed the field to a few dozen people.

Still and all, your concept is superior to our present system.

Congrats, The Ratz

To quote a well known source, that would indeed be an improvement.

A word we heard to the extreme during the campaign was CHANGE. McCain would have won if he had said, “I hate Change, Cindy hates Change. We have nothing to fear but Change itself. I am always in favor of IMPROVEMENT. We have nothing to fear from Improvement.”

re:Subject: You come to criticize,
Jim, next time I read a Mike Adams column that has things I agree with, like, or respect, I promise I will post about that. I just tried to find something positive to say about this column. Adams almost had me with his polite request that emotion voters not vote. He lost me when he moved onto voter suppression if that doesn't work. The truth of the matter is that there are some TH columnist that make me think and rethink my views, if not change my views. Mike Adams is very rarely, if ever, that columnist.

I do agree with you, Jim, that criticism alone is not useful. I don't completely agree with this quote, however: "The tourist who comes to “appreciate” will visit and see the beauty, and never notice the negatives seen by the tourist who came to “criticize.”" Why can't one appreciate the beauty and still notice the negatives? The world is not black and white.

CLUELESS
Our country has much to fear from clueless voters. It will even become more so as our dropout rate continues to rise and Immigration insists upon letting millions more clueless come in. As all these uninformed and clueless reproduce, we can expect to see a great expansion of the uninformed and clueless voters taking over the country as they apparently already have. THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA! And MSM has contributed greatly to this dumbing down. It's a tragic situation.

It was all in the plan
Clueless, emotional voters are exactly the kind of voters Obama cultivated. He instructed his campaign workers to speak of their feelings about Obama, not their thoughts on the issues.

Each of us have the next two years to educate those around us about Conservatism vs. Liberalism and why liberalism actually enslaves people.

I'm personally calling on Republicans to start actively, articulately, and very vocally defending Conservative values. After all, these are the values upon which this country was built:

Join me in giving moderate and liberal Republicans a firm message:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/we-demand-true-conserva tive-leadership.html

Satisfied?
universal health care, a greener economy, middle class tax cuts, a thorough flushing out of GOP rule

I thought it was leftist who prattled on about "the Man" keeping the ignorant masses enthralled in their ignorance.
And of course voter behavior can be explained by their "material conditions" (i.e., "blacks" or "college students").
Is this Town Hall, or Marxism.com?
