Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Author’s Note: Dr. Adams will speak at The University of Tulsa on December 4th. The speech will begin at 7 p.m. in the Second Floor Auditorium of Helmerich Business Hall. Admission is free for the general public but $10 for handcuffed feminists.

Dear Handcuffed feminist:

I want to thank you, first of all, for taking the time to attend my recent speech at Duquesne University. I don’t know how you managed to handcuff yourself, gag yourself, and then place a sign across your lap saying, “Kick the feminist.” I’m just glad no one in the audience accepted your invitation.

I was concerned that you would jump up and interrupt me at some point during the speech. I was surprised that you did not. I was even more surprised that, at the end of the speech, someone came up and handed me a note saying “This is from the handcuffed chick. She wanted me to give it to you.”

Your note, indicating that you had to leave the speech early because you were working the late shift, was pleasant in tone. I hope you weren’t offended that I did not use the e-mail address you supplied in order to e-mail you the next day per your request. There’s just something about a handcuffed feminist that kind of scares me. So I decided to discard the message and go drink a few beers with a couple of chicks who came to my speech wearing black dresses (and no handcuffs).

I received your email message the day after my speech, which indicated that you agreed with the content of my speech and which offered your assistance should I ever be prevented from speaking on a college campus in the future. I noticed that you closed your note by stating that you hoped I did not mind your little protest outside the door of my speech.

I am writing to you today to let you know that I did mind your little protest outside the door of my speech. I really got nothing positive out of it. In fact, I was annoyed with it because it is part of a major problem on our college campus today; namely, the use of protest simply for the sake of protest.

It is my contention that the self-described college liberals of your generation are even more spoiled and less informed than the college liberals of the 1960s. Generally speaking, you (and your generation of liberals) are inclined to protest against things you don’t understand – basing your protests on vague emotions rather than specific facts. You come to protests completely unprepared to offer any kind of solution to the problems – the same ones you fail to understand. And, finally, you are most concerned with drawing attention to yourselves at speeches – as opposed to actually drawing information from the speaker.

Let me provide you with some examples I’ve observed at some of my speeches:

Protestors of my speech at The University of New Hampshire broke into glass cases and spray-painted swastikas on my picture. Then, when my speech was over, the protestors asked really pointed questions like “Do you want to bring back slavery?” and “Do you think it’s OK to beat a gay person with a baseball bat?” Remarkably, after the liberals had vandalized my posters, one liberal asked if I could learn to be a little more civil in my discourse. He went through the line three times to ask me that same question.

Like I said, the protestors have no idea what they are protesting – the speech wasn’t about legalizing slavery and the assault of gays. But the protestors do manage to draw a lot of attention. Indeed, UNH provided five armed police officers and a police escort (which I refused) to take me back to my hotel.

Protestors of my speech at Appalachian State University couldn’t think of a single objection to the substance of my points so (in the middle of the Q & A) they ran out of the room after shutting off the lights in the auditorium. The audience just sat there in the dark wondering why the un-bathed protestors were angry.

We never figured out their objections to the substance of the speech but they did manage to draw attention to themselves. People just scratched their heads – sort of like they did when they saw you sitting in the handcuffs.

Protestors of my speech at The University of Oregon sat on a row and talked audibly throughout a substantial proportion of the speech. One of them, who was very obviously gay, sat knitting a sock and talking to the guy to his right. The guy was so stoned you could blindfold him with dental floss. They also laughed audibly at inappropriate times in order to distract me during the speech.

But during the Q & A I didn’t get a single question from any one of them – nothing that could have helped me determine the basis of their protestations. They made no contribution to the debate. But they did draw a lot of attention to themselves. And a gay dude got himself one new sock. (Since he didn’t knit two I assumed he wasn’t a bi-soxual).

Protestors at my speech at The University of Massachusetts at Amherst seemed especially concerned about racism – or so I thought. During the Q & A there was a Planned Parenthood supporter arguing that the organization had no presence in the State of Mississippi. I argued that they did have a presence in all areas with high black populations. And I accused them of aiding and abetting the mass slaughter of black babies – with black abortion rates soaring high above white abortion rates nationwide.

Soon after I finished my defense of innocent black life protestors in the back of the room began screaming “Racist, sexist, anti-gay. Right wing bigots go away!” They did not seem to hear or understand the content of the speech. But they did draw attention to themselves and, eventually, they seized control of the microphone. I was escorted from the room by two undercover bodyguards as the event was ended prematurely.

A protestor at my speech at Agnes Scott College handed out literature for Amnesty International, seemingly unaware that the speech was on the rights of the unborn, not the rights of prisoners. But that didn’t stop her from ruining the Q & A with completely inane and irrelevant questions like “Dr. Adams, do you love yourself?” That question would have been more relevant at one of the feminist masturbation workshops.

I finally confronted the protestor at Agnes Scott pointing out that she hadn’t listened to or understood the speech. So she approached me after the speech asking for an apology for offending her. The speech, by the way, was about how feminists have started to use one imaginary constitutional right – the right to be un-offended – to keep people from trying to restrict another imaginary constitutional right – the right to murder innocent children. We never had an actual discussion about her problems with the content of my speech or any of her solutions. But she managed to get everyone in the room to focus their attention upon her. Like you, that was really her only objective.

I know that under the First Amendment you have a right to protest my speeches. But I would prefer it if you would not just protest for the sake of protesting without some sort of goal (other than just drawing attention to yourself). Even a dog can draw attention to himself by exercising his right to lick his genitals. But no one wants to watch him do it endlessly.

In conclusion, I would like to thank you for attending my speech. But I would respectfully ask you to refrain from protesting another one of my speeches until you are more informed on the subject matter, more willing to offer constructive solutions, and less in need of drawing attention to yourself.

In my next column, I’m going to respectfully ask you to quit voting.

To be continued …

Great Post...
and so typical of protesters in general!

How much do I love this!!!
"Generally speaking, you (and your generation of liberals) are inclined to protest against things you don’t understand –basing your protests on vague emotions rather than specific facts."

MH

What I noticed during this election year were the fake protestors who had nothing else to do and thought it was cool to protest.

Back in the late sixties, at least we were brainwashed by a Communist agenda (not so funny). These saps are just playing some sort of 3D video game called life.

Robert
I suppose you think the poor girl is still lying there then . . .. Maybe you should go check on her.

The chance of interruption
Mike tells us: "I was concerned that you would jump up and interrupt me at some point during the speech...."

Robert tells us: "Probably not if she was handcuffed ... and gagged..."

Robert seems to be suffering from the dual misconceptions that (a) handcuffed wrists prevent someone from "jumping up" and (b) verbal communication is the only way to create an interruption (actually it can be accomplished with little more than "jumping up" while handcuffed ... and gagged.

Not to worry. As the other protesters (not to mention all too many liberal visitors to these boards) demonstrate with amazing consistency, it is the intellectual handcuffs that are far more constraining. It is easier to protest, change the subject, engage in ad hominem attacks or post inanities (apparently believed to be the soul of wit) than it is to engage in reasoned discourse about the subject at hand. It's easier still to engage in such activities without bothering to inform oneself about the issues (social, economic, scientific, etc.) relevant to the discussion and instead bash non-liberal positions on the welfare state, global warming, trade, government intervention, the family, and on and on without basis.

Sure there are conservatives and libertarians that engage in these tactics as well, but that they are so far outnumbered by their liberal brethren is typical.

If the shoe fits..
isn't it interesting that Robert does the same thing in the thread that the liberal protestors do in the audience. offer protest about something without any basis or knowledge. Proves that his real interest is shining the spotlight on himself rather than the subject of Mike's article.

Artus
Well said.

Dont forget to mention Will, who does the same bizarre, wierded out rants on every one of the columns by Dr. Adams. Will appears to have homosexual fantasies abou Dr. Adams and is barely able to control himself when a column appears.

Both Will and Robert underscore the points made in the column.

Boy, I tells ya...
...that mayor Daily sure could crack some skulls. Not that I'm saying...or anything.
Oh, for da good ol' days.

I can just see the Public Service Announcement:
"This is your noggin.(CUH-RACK!)
This is your noggin after a mindless 'protest'."

Ratas, you have a talent....
you may have listened to too much Zappa in your youth! But that was entertaining. And 2spothipsthot... I also miss the old days, when fear of retribution meant more than being called a bad name....and louisville sluggers were handy.

We Have
Since the 60's, managed to raise progressively stupider children, who go into a progressively dumber propaganda machine called College. A very quick cure for this would be a 6 year moratorium on all higher education except trade schools (i.e. plumbing, carpentry, etc.) with no pay for the professors and school administrators and with no guarantees of rehiring for previous educators. Afterward, those who wanted to be teachers would have to pass a 1000 question exam based upon the field they wanted to teach, before facing a board consisting of a mix of field experts and the the parents of the children they would teach. After that, every year someone who wanted to continue teaching would have to pass the same test and board.
That would solve the problems real quick.

Never happen
Sorry Mike, but liberals will never state their true goals or intentions...they would be laughed out of the room.

Liberal
My dictionary defines "liberal" as "open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values" and "favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms". It seems we need to find a different name for the nut-cases that have responded negatively to your column. It has been my experience that "liberals" make emotional decisions and demonstrate a relative absence of logical thinking. In the face of empirical data that clearly refutes what a liberal says, they consistently try to change the subject.

Smart move
".... drink a few beers with a couple of chicks who came to my speech wearing black dresses (and no handcuffs)."

That's smarter than wasting time on a psychological train wreck.

Juvinile protesters
Mike--these young people have a lot of growing up to do when they arrive in the real world of life.

Such as, raising kids, paying the rent or house payment, and all the rest of the things required in order to live.

Too many damn democrat ideas being formed in their minds such as From the Cradle to the Grave mentality the democrat government applauds too.

There will be an awaking all too soon for these airheads.

Liberals today
have too much money, too much time, and too little education. I like that idea of not allowing them into colleges but putting them to work as plumbers or carpenters ...let them see how the real world goes.
Required military service would be a good idea too. They've had too little discipline so far and a couple years would do worlds of good.
I don't know whatever happened to free speech but they yap about every "right" except that one.

What Is Going On
It's clear that college tuition is too low and that there are too much tuition aid available so that too many kids get into universities who are not serious about education.

When children act up and misbehave it is mainly because they are confused and unable to reason through the problem which makes them frustrated and angry. Astute parents know that when children test you by making irrational demands or throwing temper tantrums, they are really saying, "Mommy, I don't know where I fit. What are my boundaries? Give me some guidance, the rules, so that I can stop trying to find them myself."

And the wise parents know that the best thing a parent can do when confronted by over emotional kids is to simply bust their asssses. This helps the children know what they can and cannot do.

The worst thing parents can do is tell the kid, "You figure it out. Do what you want."

Freedom is terrifying for most people, because it puts the burden on them for their own failure and success. This is especially true for little children.

Liberals are, in essence, children who've grown phyically, but not emoitionally. They don't fit and they know it. They're big, like other adults, but they don't have the coping skills and this is why they are loud, rude, annoying and emotionally unstable. It's also why they gravitate to Messiahs who promise to make their decisions for them.

Liberals simply need someone to give them swift kicks in their assssses every day, all day, for the rest of their lives until they get right.

comedian
Mike you are my hero, happy that you are able to voice reason on the college campuses.

This last article was hilarious, I think that you could make it on the stand-up circut.

Sadly most students on today college campus would not understand your humor.

keep up the good work.

Brilliant!
Love the dog analogy. What do you think two protesters do when they meet? I'd think it has something to do with sniffing and with hind parts.

Really, when has anyone on the left ever had a solution? (other than murdering 10s of millions of people, as with Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin...maybe one day Chavez?)

THE LOST GENERATION
For years we have been talking about the lost generation being the generation that were drug users, but it is also the generation that never were taught that they were responsbile for their actions. Instead of a good wacking behind the woodshed they were given time out in their rooms with their toys, video games, computers and telephones. What else can we expect?
There are fewer woodsheds, no discipline at home, schools are sued if they spank, children are not taught respect for their elders, authority or to respect themselves. The lost generation has become savages and they believe that it is the norm. I feel sorry for all of the liberal extremist, life will be harder because they can't have it their way forever.
Their is nothing sadder than an old hippie spouting the same old routine we have heard for 40 years.

Reba
Amen.

The worst thing a parent can do is let his/her child throw temper tantrums and then get their way.

With my son, I use a variety of punishments, including time out, but also writing lines, doing a whole bunch of extra chores - made to fit the crime, and when it's warranted, spanking.

No matter which punishment is used, however, the one thing that does not change is that I cut off the tantrums immediately. He is not allowed to get away with that at all, and he must immediately apologize to his parents. If he starts crying or blubbering or whining to get attention, the response he gets is he's told to "dry it up" and when he can talk to his parents in a reasonable manner, then we will listen.

The problem with these idiots
is that they probably had parents who did not curtail them in any way. When they whined or screamed and threw tantrums, their parents probably let them do it ad nauseam, because to do otherwise would "wound their little angels emotionally and destroy their spirits". Gag.

As a result, these brats learned no emotional discipline and they think it's normal and acceptable to throw grown-up versions of temper tantrums.

What fools these liberals be!

Male dog's?
Even a dog can draw attention to himself by exercising his right to lick his genitals.

Clever, but the female dogs do the same thing and no one wants to even think about that, let alone see it.

As far a liberals and protests go the term MINDLESS comes to mind. (PTP)

Overgrown Children
JD's Handsome Son has it exactly right. This "protesters" resemble nothing so much as my 8yo -- who spent the Thanksgiving weekend determinedly attempting to occupy the center of attention in our houseful of guests.

Naturally, the adults present reprimanded him for his rudeness and sent him to go play -- allowing him back only when he was willing to behave.

Its a pity that our institutions of higher learning are so infested by these overgrown children that there aren't any adults around with the authority to tell these silly "protesters" to go play and to allow them back only when they are willing to behave and not interrupt the adults' conversations.

dean0
Ah, okay. LOL

This early in the morning, ya gots to spell things out for us older folk....especially when we haven't had our coffee yet.

Lol

Mother of 4
Amen.

Like my grandfather used to say, "If you want to be treated like an adult, you have to act like one."

Respect is earned, not freely given.

It is telling that these childish protesters demand respect, yet their actions are nothing but disrespectful.

Someday, maybe, they'll grow up.

Dollars to donuts say
Will, Robert, and the protestors had neither been denied anything as children nor spanked when they misbehaved.

ADAMS
The duct tape kept her quiet. And the handcuffs kept her from strangling you. Those are 2 good things. I don't think she was making a statement but merely trying self-control. I don't know what protestors are trying to accomplish I've tried to figure it out several times and gave up. When I went to the Sarah Palin/ McCain rally we had to pass screaming protesters spelling OBAMA. What good were they doing? They weren't convincing anyone. They did not accomplish anything except a little entertainment as we waited in long lines.

Chuck,
A while back my oldest, now 17, said something I considered rather insightful.

He was talking about a person who'd been disrupting online game servers and being annoying on gaming forums and said, "His parents probably never said, "No" to him."

We conservatives have more kids than the left-liberals. If we raise them carefully we can, in time, retake the culture from those spoiled brats who never grew up.

Mother of 4
It's interesting you say that.

Living here in Portland, Maine I have a generally negative impression of today's young people (they're nice enough, it's just that they are so vacuous and undisciplined in mind) but lately I've had occasion to witness some of the evidences of young people who have been homeschooled and my pessimism has been somewhat tempered.

Now it's merely a matter of wondering if we have the time enough for them to undo the damage.

Chuck
Not trying to push religion here, but as a christian, I have faith that it's possible for all people to change for the better.

Sometimes it does take a miracle or a direct act of God, but it is possible.

Problem is, tough love has been outlawed
Today, a parent can be charged with child abuse for spanking their child! I think that anyone making such a charge needs to be spanked (for probably the first time in their lives!

I've seen way too many children allowed to get away with tantrums and rude and boorish behavior by leftist parents that either ignore or condone the childish actions.

Now those children have voted without any knowledge or interest in what and who they voted for. Better get your life in order before God, the apocalypse is upon us!

Static, Not Protest
Most of these "protesters" are actually just trying to squelch & shut down voices, esp in their chosen enclave of academia, that dissent from & argue with the agendas, memes, presumptions, & propaganda with which the young'uns are otherwise being indoctrinated. They're creating static.

This is not about addressing the issue or offering a rebuttal to the conservative speaker, because that is generally difficult if not impossible, esp for your average protester. The agenda these protesters serve are not based upon logic or facts & can usually be skewered handily by the application of logic & facts.

I'm reminded of the chapter in C.S. Lewis' _The Pilgrim's Regress_ where Reason challenges The Spirit of the Age to answer her questions or be slain. If CSL had written today, the Spirit of the Age's supporters would have set up an incessant chatter & street theater to drown out Reason's voice.

Therefore, the aim of 'protesters' & their masters is to take the debate out of the arena of Reason into the realm of emotion & noise. They try to distract others from hearing & understanding the arguments, & to annoy others to get them to associate the speaker with annoyance rather than reason.

With any luck (& the passive connivance of authorities) they can even exercise a heckler's veto and shut down the whole lecture, or even persuade the school to decline hosting it at all, on the specious grounds that the event will draw noisy, annoying, destructive "protesters." (Mike has documented a number of these situations in the past)

JD's Handsome Son
LOL

Sounds like what could be the beginning of a grand crusade.

How about some slogans?

"Have you slapped a liberal today?"

"Slap a liberal and save the culture"

"Got Slap?"

LOL

First off Mike
5 Stars because I can't give you 10!
You write:
In conclusion, I would like to thank you for attending my speech. But I would respectfully ask you to refrain from protesting another one of my speeches until you are more informed on the subject matter, more willing to offer constructive solutions, and less in need of drawing attention to yourself.

And I just have to say, this sounds a lot like you read the post here at TH.
It is the same here except we can scroll right past them. Too bad you can't do your speeches the same way.

LMFAO hic! (not used with blubberbutt the seatbuffers permission, because I will NEVER ask for it!)

Friar
In the parable of the Sower and the Seed, the focus is the soil.

I fear that the soil of most young people today has been so drained of the necessary ingredients for good fruit by a calculated and deliberate assault on all settled convictions through media, political, and educational apparati, that that may be next to impossible.

Our hope, if anything, may just lie in the coming generation of homeschoolers and those whose parents never gave in to the Zeitgeist.

Curtal Friar
Got slap.

LOL, Good one.

Well said. However, I am a little concerned about Will. Maybe his obsession is less intense or he is actually getting a life. Will was not the first poster today. In fact, he was at least in sixth place (assuming a deserved Robert deletion).

This professor is tired of college
After eight years of teaching at a university, I am going back to the practice of law. At least in the courtroom you can argue with someone over facts. In college, all you get are whines and complaints about doing the work, and complaints that you have offended them. I am sick of it. It has drained all of the joy I had in teaching. BTW, it's not just the young students who are a pain in the a*s. I was teaching at a college for adult students, and they are no better. Whine, complain. Just give me the piece of paper that says I are smart.

Handicapped by Our Manners,
In one respect conservatives are handicapped by our good manners.

Left-liberals, having no manners, never refrain from pointing and jeering. But they absolutely CANNOT stand to be laughed at.

If the crowd had broken out in audible laughter at the handcuffed fool, who certainly deserved laughter, or if we broke out laughing at their inane "questions" it could well discourage future iterations of the same. But that would have been rude -- both to the fool herself and to Dr. Adams, since it would have created the disruption intended.

Perhaps we need to consider carefully the value of being rude to people who were rude first while finding appropriate venues -- perhaps outside the doors while the "protesters" are making their preparations?

Dr. Adams
It is clear protesting in nutty and sometimes destructive ways is comparable to when I was in college in the 50's and panty raids were considered part of the college experience.

So Mike...

If you had undercover bodyguards to escort you from the auditorium at UMass Amherst, why didn't this hired muscle simply seize back control of the microphone instead?

SOME LIBERBALS SHOULD BE ARRESTED
SOME LIBERALS SHOULD BE ARRESTED FIRST BEFORE THEY ARE EVER PLACED IN HANDCUFFS. LIBERALISM IS NOT ITSELF A CRIMINAL OFFENSE BUT AID AND ABET ALL CRIMINAL ACTS.

CFriar-Doc
How many Obamatards that voted for ACORN Hussein Obama could tell you WHY?

The Protester Types are Typical Liberals, Dysfunctional, Intoxicated and/or Stoned. Spoiled, Brats! To solve the problem, when a child is 13-15 and starts mouthing off, a session of TILB (Two Inch Leather Belt) Therapy when needed WILL cure them if they are smart. If they are of age to be in college, M&N (Mace & Nightstick) Therapy acts as a deterrent to such aberrant behavior.

Thanks Mike
I love reading your stuff! You put those brainless bobbleheads in their place like no one else can.

I homeschool both of my kids in the hopes of teaching them to be decent, intelligent Christians who will be able to stand up for themselves and their values when faced with the rabid liberal professors they are sure to encounter in College! My 12 year old daughter has already encountered many of these directionless drones in a few online forums, and is getting quite proficient at putting them in their place.

Any homeschool parent can see that the government schools are set up to hold our kids back, intellectually and emotionally. I feel so sorry for many of these kids, they could be so much more, if only their parents would take (and teach) responsibility!

Wait a minute, folks!
I'm surprised I'm not hearing of any of the potential benefits when it comes to protesters voluntarily BINDING AND GAGING THEMSELVES! Think of the reduced work load for the police if this were to become a new trend.

I think we're missing the boat by putting down this protester. She should be encouraged, along with all her friends, to do more of that kind of protesting.

And I DO like Mother of 4's idea of laughter as being a good follow up in general.

ChristyB
For your homeschooler. Maybe a little advanced for her at 12 but it never hurts to start early.

Be cautious, however of using the Company as a source of teaching materials. Many of the courses are rife with materialitistic and Existentialist dogma, but this one is pretty safe.

We Live in a Dysfunctional Society

The truth is we live in a Dysfunctional Society in America.

Dysfunction = abnormal or unhealthy interpersonal behavior or interaction within a group.

Albert Einstein stated that "Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will - his personal responsibility."

Former President Clinton grew up in a chaotic world of alcoholism and irresponsibility, he could only 'Feel Comfortable' when he created chaos and dysfunction around him.

President Elect Barack Obama was raised in a dysfunctional and chaotic family with NO father figure and his only male role models were Frank Marshall Davis (devout Communist) and Jeremiah Wright a 'hate filled' black separatist who hates America.

Clinton and Obama are the example's of what we are facing today with Liberalism.

These men who are dissatisfied with themselves and the world around them, project that dissatisfaction onto others.

Men and women who are dissatisfied with their natural roles, blame others for their own dissatisfaction - it is that simple.

The 'natural role' of a woman is very difficult - mother, nurturer, wife - many females 'bristle' at that role and wish to be something else, other than what they are.

The 'natural role' of a man is very difficult - father, provider, protector - many males 'bristle' at that role and wish to be something else, other than what they are.

The old adage - 'grass is greener on the other side of the fence comes to mind'.

creighton beryll
Cuz it's Massachusetts!

break the college "cartel". . .
by making it possible to "test out". Expand the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) to prohibit colleges and universities from charging course work "fees" for testing out by CLEP. Require colleges to accept CLEP results totally without requiring students to take unnecessary course work for a "degree".
A number of years ago there was a push towards mandating equivalency between colleges for course work completed. This would have mandated recognition of a competing college's course work. This equivalency mandate was successfully lobbied out of existence.
If a "fairness doctrine" is imposed, it should apply to all "institutions of higher learning".

McGuffey Readers
Anyone who has a set of {and read) the "McGuffey Eclectic Readers" knows that there is a difference between "education", "critical thinking skills" and "indoctrination". It seems that most "institutions of higher learning" are barely proficient in "education" and "critical thinking skills" and quite proficient in "indoctrination". There are exceptions--Grove City and Hillsdale.
It is my humble opinion (based on personal observation) that most "college educated individuals" would have trouble with the last three books in the series.
The "McGuffey Eclectic Readers" were widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries in the one room school houses of the day as well as those who home schooled. Yes-the "McGuffey Readers" are still available and would provide a valuable addition to any library.

liberals
Even the so called adults act like spoiled brats

Standing up for your beliefs
does not have to include a public protest. Work to be what you want to be even if it looks like doors are closed to you. I am quite sure that Condi Rice didn't protest. She just studied with enthusiasm and carved an appropriate life for herself.

If even half of the people who disrupt speeches or organize protests channeled their energy, we'd have a better world.

Did any of you see Patch Adams with Robin Williams? His small treatment center is a glowing example of determination and time well spent.

As I've said....
..a couple dozen times on Townhall, "liberals are adolescents with adult prerogatives". Their self-absorption knows no bounds.

Be warned, folks. These kids will one day be tenured college professors. They'll be welcomed with open arms by the academic potentates at every public institution.

No Clue
Do Libs think by handcuffing themselves and such like they did, they will bring others over to their side?
Or by their actions they will somehow convince the speaker he is wrong?
But in reality these protesters don’t have a clue of what’s going on, there just against it.

liberal bashing
for many years some conservatives accused liberals of bush derangement syndrome.

now every where i turn some conservatives have contracted the liberal derangement syndrome.

from a quick read of this thread.

liberals should be arrested.
liberals should be hunted down and killed.
liberals should have their butts kicked and slapped everyday.

lets start with the fact that these are fellow americans. in fact, these horrible liberals have convinced a majority of americans that their ideas are better than conservative ideas.

and isn't that the problem here.

instead of offering concrete ideas, some conservatives can only point the finger at those they disagree with and say "they are the problem".

everyone is responsible for the problem except for these conservatives.

does anyone see the irony that on a column that has to do with the so-called irresponsibility of liberals that these conservatives take no responsibility for their own failures.

like a child, most conservatives on this thread including the author lament a victim mentality while playing the victim card to the utmost.

it is sad.

The protester explained.
Having evaluated literally hundreds of adult court defendants and criminal youth in my career, perpetual adolescents all, I can tell you that when they're exposed in their lies and corrupt thinking, they go ballistic.

When you lay out how silly, senseless, emotional, faulty, victimizing, and self-serving their stories are, they want you dead, and they don't mind saying so.

Great article, Dr. Adams. Then again, the liberals about which you speak remind me that I have work to do today.

Keep up the great work!

Disconnect

GOP needs a fix to connect again with voters

December 1, 2008

On Nov. 4 the Republican Party didn't just lose the White House. It lost its way. It seems Republican officials don't know what to be, what to stand for, which group of voters to appeal to, or where to look for future leaders. Once secure in its beliefs and principles, the GOP now appears to be adrift. Of course, no one likes to lose. But it does seem that many of the Republican Party elders are enjoying the experience less than most. It doesn't help that many of them can't believe they lost to someone as untested as Barack Obama. That's part of the problem. They underestimated Obama, not unlike the way Democrats underestimated George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, and so they met the same fate. Instead of dwelling on what it sees as the flaws and shortcomings of its opponents, and wondering why more Americans don't see them, the Republican Party should spend more time examining its own flaws and shortcomings and coming up with ways to address them. It is not enough to tell voters what Republicans are against; they have to tell voters what Republicans support.

In exchange for getting your digs in, you decline to address what, exactly, is being addressed here.

Saw It Myself
I was Duquesne where the girl cuffed and gagged herself and sat by the door with a "Kick the Feminist" sign. I didn't think much of it since they didn't, like Dr. Adams stated, even go inside to listen to his speech or ask questions. The Young Democrats organization on campus didn't even attend but somehow thought it was a good idea to rip down the posters advertising the event. Just goes to show that they knew they had no intentions of having an intelligent conversation with Dr. Adams.

the pro from dover
well that was nicely written but exactly what is your objection to what i said.

insults are not facts.

refute what i said rather than throw out emotional reactions.

but then many conservatives don't do well with facts.

Because polemical rhetoric notwithsatnding (this christianlib is what comments like "liberals should be hunted down" amount to), conservatives are not interested in stifling free expression. That's why we oppose the "fairness (sic) doctrine".

They sound like pragmatists.

no that is not what the poster was referring to.

i have been a poster on townhall for 3 years and there are some conservatives who literally want liberals (their fellow americans) dead.

that is not free speech my friend.

chuck
the issue is free speech and protests.

do some conservatives support protesters at abortion clinics?

should those protesters be classifed in the same manner adams addresses those who protest his remarks.

and finally my point is

some conservatives believe in free speech as long as it is not liberal free speech.

christianlib
"the issue is free speech and protests."

No, the issue is the difference between responsible protesting and merely seeking attention.

Actually
...that is EXACTLY what posters here have been referring to. I have been a poster here for as long as you have and on other boards for far longer. During that time I have come to recognize hyperbole. It is not my fault that you have developed no such skill. And, as it happens, the Founders believed that this kind of discussion (INCLUDING the hyperbole) was EXACTLY the kind of speech that must be protected.

Perhaps there ARE conservatives who literally want their liberal fellow Americans dead. If you can show me where there has been a real movement to ACT on that desire, I will concede the point. Until then, it amounts to nothing more than a completely baseless accusation (about par for the course).

Some (many) liberals believe in free speech as long as it is not conservative free speech, hence my reference to the "fairnes (sic) doctrine" in the earlier post. This is called "evidence"...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An unemployed man accused of opening fire with a shotgun and killing two people at a Unitarian church apparently targeted the congregation out of hatred for its liberal social policies, police said Monday.
Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said a letter had been been recovered from the SUV of Jim D. Adkisson, 58, by investigators seeking clues about the motive behind the attack. Authorities said he was an apparent stranger to the Tennessee church where gunfire punctuated a children's performance based on the musical "Annie." Two people were killed and seven wounded Sunday.

"It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that and his stated hatred of the liberal movement," Owen said at a news conference.

Christian lib...
You're a case study in projection.

Did you read Dr. Adams' article? Do so right away, and then have someone explain it to you.

Liberals, like criminals that run the streets, have no conscience, and they do unto others that which they would not remotely accept having done to them.

After a criminal victimizes someone, they demand their rights to the fullest when arrested. As the article points out, that young psychopath wanted an apology from Dr. Adams after disrupting his talk.

Now focus on that construct for a few minutes.

You'd swear these social hemmarhoids studied the constitution when it comes to "fairness, respect, and equality". When stopped or busted after victimizing someone, they demand their rights.

Another example: To a criminal, their victim might be dead, traumatized, injured or permanently disfigured, but to them, that's beside the point. They believe they don't have to follow any social protocol, but they demand it from all authority figures.

Get it?

To a liberal, insulting and harrassing someone is a one way street. Maladapted kids can be like that, don't you think?

As for me, I would introduce liberal protesters to the reality of "behavior=consequence". I've done it in the distant past and I must say, it's rather fun.

On more than one occassion, some lefties tried to block me from registering for a semester in college. This is just after my return from Nam, by the way. When doing so, they held themselves between me and the door to the admin building, waving their signs in my face, and yelling their heads off. Down they went.

Then they wanted me arrested. That didn't happen, and they did learn "behavior=consequence". Those were fun times.

A Jerk Amongst Us
Protesting the trivial often takes imagination; refocusing the event on something else is one way of doing that. Asking questions off the topic is another. Not showing up altogether is even more telling; I guess these students just figured Mr. Adams is a paper tiger!
I think the fact that Mr. Adams didn't have much in the way of protestors, says more about how irrelevant he and his way of thinking have become lately. There is an old saying, "don't sweat the small stuff. . .the adage to that is. . .it is all small stuff". The younger generation of women activist have finally learned that much of what people like Mr. Adams is offering, is small stuff.

That man you described...

so what happened to you 40 years ago has shaped your life to the point that all your conclusions on your fellow americans who are liberal derive from that one instance.

that is not intellectually an honest way to make decisions.

if i got beat up by a white guy, should i now think all whites are out to beat me up.

once again you make yourself out to be a victim while blaming liberals for the same thing.

To be fair, there is no reason why someone cannot be both a Christian and a liberal. Human beings have always been capable of holding contradictory views simultaneously.

christian lib, you're missing the point
Adams' point is not that protesters should not be allowed to protest. his point is that oftentimes, college protests are merely theater, and the people who are causing the disruptions don't have real questions but just want to draw some attention to themselves.

working for a large liberal university myself, I totally believe this.

to your point about abortion-clinic protesters: I think we'd all agree that they certainly have a substantive point of view and they make it known. so no...they would not be classified with these protesting students.

christian lib AGAIN
christianlib: you're posting silliness faster than I can respond to it!

when some loon kills an abortion provider, should we blame the entire conservative movement? I dunno...when some Hollywood loon hangs an effigy of Sarah Palin, should we blame the entire Democratic Party?

michigan ruth,
Unfortunately, the left-libs who talk so much about the subtlety of their reasoning are completely incapable of drawing that sort of clear distinction.

Remember, they emote instead of think so the idea that two things that bear a remote resemblance in *form* might have no resemblance in *kind* is beyond their comprehension.

The NEW constitutional freedoms
Dr. Adams often presents real-life examples supporting my premise:

The “Mainstream Media” and most politicians have promulgated the following new set of four freedoms while making the “Reasonable Individual” extinct.

• Freedom From Discomfort, Insult and Offense.
(Stop whistling those dirty songs.)

• Freedom From Responsibility and Cause and Effect.
(It's not my [or their] fault, ever; although it might be yours.)

• Freedom From Reason & Absolutes.
(It is inconvenient and undesirable for that condition to be true.)

• Freedom From Knowledge, Discourse & Debate.
(Don't confuse me with your set of alleged facts; what I tell you three times is true. If you don’t understand that you are just stupid…and a bigot; and so are your sources, all of them, every one.)

re: the point?
The author's essay reminded me of a conversation I once had with a woman who said she was liberal and enlightened (so it must have been true..) Her artful argument went this way: She inquired if I believed that the Bible was true. I said yes. Pointing her finger at me, she said I was responsible for the death of 6 million Jews and 1 Matthew Shephard.

Whoa, deep, huh?

Christian Lib
What is the point of your post and what does it have to do with Adams column? A guy went into a church and shot some people. That's horrible! But do you have a point to make? The link you post, which gives more details, concludes with a story of a shooting in Colorado. 4 people were shot at a mission (no indication as to the political or theological leanings of the mission. Then he went to a megachurch where he shot 5 more before killing himself! A terrible tragedy. The story gives no indication as to the political affiliations of the 2nd man. Perhaps you are uncertain then as to the morality of his actions? I'll give you a clue. Both were wrong, both are nut jobs. So is the poor girl who had herself tied to a chair. Nutjob. No one cares what she thinks, because her behavior is so outlandish her message is lost. Is she morally superior because no one died? She still has nothing to say and a weird way to proclaim it.

christianlib
christianlib: "i have been a poster on townhall for 3 years and there are some conservatives who literally want liberals (their fellow americans) dead. that is not free speech my friend."

christianlib, the problem with your posts and this one in particular, is that you can only see one side. I'm not saying you are the only one, because there are conservatives who are the same way. However, what I encountered during this election changed me forever.

I originally supported Hillary Clinton. During the primaries, I was called a racist, a b*&ch and other names I can't even mention on here because I would not support Barack Obama. I gave my reasons, which were based on facts, not on the MSM's (liberal or conservative) "coverage." After Obama got the nomination, I changed to John McCain, and from there it only got worse. I finally had to stop going on one blog after receiving personal threats. NOT ONCE did I insult anyone, call them names or make fun of their choice.

Before you go acting so high and mighty about liberals, you should look at the Obama supporters across this country. Never in my life have I been treated as badly (and I've seen it happen to many others) as in connection with this man's candidacy. If you are a long-term poster/blogger as you say, your statements are hypocrisy, plain and simple.

Protests
This reminds me of the some of the behavior during the election.

How can people who say they are "liberal" and who also say they champion the people and the ideals of our country behave in this manner? I'm not saying they have to agree with this man or that they don't have the right to question - even confront - him on what he says. But, to act like this, even at college age, is immature and takes away from their point, as far as I'm concerned.

verbivore
i don't hate conservatives, they are my fellow americans and i treasure them and their ideas.

one of the reasons i post here at townhall is that i have met very intelligent and articulate conservatives who make me re-think my own ideas.

traci
i am not acting all high and mighty, actually responding to the continual liberal bashing.

if you were treated that way by liberals i denounce them.

my main point is that we need to get away from demonizing the other side whether we are liberal or conservative.

we need to engage in constructive dialogue as i am attempting to do here.

if you notice i have not insulted or called anyone a name, yet, my Christianity, sanity and emotional state have all been called into question.

i respect your right to support whoever you want, can i expect the same from you or others on this thread?

but lib,
can you respond please to the column by Adams? Does he not have a point that argument from those of your persuasion is usually, more about drawing attention than actually arguing with facts and reason?

libs are idiot savants
The dictionary definition of liberal given previously: "favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms" refers to classical liberals of a bygone golden age.

The Left highjacked the term without anyone noticing or protesting and made it mean the complete opposite. Today's liberals are collectivists i.e. socialists and routinely mow down the individual with group rights. Those group rights are given only to those favored by the Left: feminists, gay activists, unions, anyone non-white or non-Christian.

The one area in which the Left is genius is propaganda and seizing all the channels for it like education and the media. They just got a complete pinko elected in this way.

Other than that, they are completely stupid. Only the truly dumb regardless of how many degrees they have can ignore capitalism's unsurpassed track record in bringing the greatest good to the greatest number in the least time and keep dragging everyone into the swamp of socialism.

Well, for the few who manage to be the elite, socialism gives them all the perks of monarchy, with a mass of new serfs who used to be the middle class to do their bidding and support their clients who give votes in return for Welfare. The stupidity comes in with the lib voters who won't make it into the tiny elite and will be slaving away with the rest of us to support the drone underclass. Lib "fairness" consists of people working hard to support people who don't want to work hard.

Leftists haven't figured out the fatal flaw in their idiotic formula, when the shirkers kill the workers' motivation.

Nothing wrong with protest!
Sorry, but I can't agree wtih most of the posters here. There is NOTHING wrong with protest! The Founding Fathers wrote protest into the Constitution because they saw it as preferable to war.

The problem that Mike highlights is that today's protest isn't very thought-provoking. A woman handcuffed and gagged with a "kick-me" sign? Yeah, okay, what's the message being sent? I don't know. Kick-me??? No thanks, don't want to go to jail, but what else have you prevented yourself from saying.

Ditto the "protesters" who actually go into the hall and say something. They don't address Mike's speeches; they simply run amok.

Did anyone see the gay church invasion on the O'Reilly Factor over the weekend. A group of gay-rights protests invaded a Michigan church with flyers, screaming "It's okay to be gay" and "Jesus was a f-g". Okay, we know what you believe, but where is your argument that we should believe the same things? We're still waiting!

Tammy's mal nars
I think what Mike illustrates well is Tammy Bruce's term 'malignant narcissist.' Those with the mental disorder of liberalism often times are so wrapped up in their high minded ideals they think the whole world revolves around them. It's fascinating to observe, sad to watch.

verbivore
as a consistent poster on townhall i can tell that fact based opinions are just as rare among conservatives as liberals.

in fact, speaking of not having facts.

adams says the guy in front is obviously gay.
here is what he says, "One of them, who was very obviously gay, sat knitting a sock and talking to the guy to his right."

exactly what factual basis does adams have for making that statement.

you will also find many conservative women have reacted to adams seeming dislike of women on a number of his past columns.

Real life example...
of your second point, Ed.

While taking a walk one day, I saw a guy drive his car off of the road and into a sink hole along side the road causing significant damage to his car. He apparently was in a hurry and was trying to drive around a vehicle waiting to turn left. He then jumped out of his car and yelled "Who's responsible for this? Who can I sue for the damage to my car?" My first thought was that perhaps he could sue his mother for raising such an imbecile, but it was probably not her fault.

Who are you kidding?
Look inward little man.
Perhaps the reason you are welcomed by so many in so violent a manner--is because of the way you disallow inclusion...period in your public speeches?

You know Mike, there are a lot of points of view out there--and nobody but God him/herself knows the reall answers to our questions.

Why should any civilized intellectual society live by only one "credo" just because you say so?

Why should any group with differing viewpoints be declared vehemently wrong..under the law and under the law of God?

Mabye you create the angst yourself? Sure couldn't hurt your book sales--as most would imply that since the left wing hates you=--you must be right (even if you're 50 miles off target).

Go to the bank--keep up the good hate inspiring work.

Protest Not Always Appropriate
Protest is not always appropriate. When the purpose of the protest is to prevent another from the expression of their 1st amendment rights, then the protest is inappropriate, at some level, criminal.

Your first amendment rights allow you to participate in a discussion, not stop a discussion.

And yes, most (73%) of the university age (17-28) people who protest have little information on the topic of the protest. We rarely turn to the young for wisdom or experience.

Christian Lib ...

Additionally, the only reaction I've seen to Dr. Adams from conservative women, me being one of them, is "Go get 'em, Doc! Those feminazis give womanhood a bad name and we're embarrassed to share our X-chromosomes with them."

Now that we've cleared up a multitude of side points how about you stop proving Dr. Adams's point about how left-lib "protesters" aim to create a scene and draw attention to themselves instead of actually engaging in a reasoned debate?

Either use *gasp* logic and evidence to challenge Dr. Adams's points or go find another topic.

Your endless, snarky mudslinging and emotional attempts to link utterly irrelevant happenings to the topic at hand in order to better demonize conservatives are as tiresome as a toddler's self-justifying "But Johnny started it!" without the excuse of not being in kindergarten yet.

Hi RL,

That was an interesting comment. What are a few of the ideas you have re-thought and changed your position on?

The point
Is that Mr. Adams was unable to tell what the protesters were protesting. What good is the 1st Amendment when we have no idea what you're trying to say? The purpose of language is to get information from the speaker to the listener, but if the speaker lacks a coherent message, language fails. That is the main problem with protesters today. The second problem is the lack of credibility, like always finding ways to protest in the middle of a workday. I find it hard to listen to someone who is apparently unemployed run around the streets, getting in productive people's way.

A man sitting in an auditorium, knitting socks.
How does Dr Adams know he is Gay? You Serious?

I saw a man (using term loosely) on a plane a few months back. He was sitting a row in front of me. How did I know he was gay? Well, its called observation and perception. It goes like this.
Femininely Dressed.........check
Painted long fingernails........check
Pink Hat...................check
Rainbow tag on his bag......check
Feminine voice as displayed by his repeated "oh my god I'm so nervousssss" comments made in reference to that being his first time flying.......check
And the clincher.........
He was Knitting.........rather ferociously I might add most likely due to his nervous excitement.

So, Libby........the knitting was just but one in a long line of "Gayness" indicators that anyone with a modicum of perception would recognize... or as my wife would say...."if you had your gaydar on" you would know.....

I trust that Dr. Adams probably had more indicators that just knitting....I trust that the man was not sitting there in a football jersey, jeans and hiking boots knitting a hat for his next manly get together.....

Your comment about not having facts does not hold water........

Barack Obama Presidential Firsts

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to support, champion and defend 'Partial Birth Abortion'.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to support, champion and defend the 'Torture of American Citizens', babies who have survived abortion and are starved to death and denied any medical aid.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to start his political career in the home of an 'unrepentant terrorist', who was dedicated to the destruction of America.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to be supported and endorsed by the Communist Party USA.

Barack Obama will be the first President in American History, to be a member of a 'Racist Church' (23 years), which preached 'Hatred of America' and 'Black Separatism'.

Ah, Nuances,
Nuances are wonderful things.

Note how a certain person just proved my point about the inability of the supposedly subtle left-liberal to grasp distinctions by completely ignoring the word "flaming".

Not to mention further proof of Dr. Adams's point about how "protesters" refuse to actually address THE POINT OF THE DISCUSSION, even when directly challenged.

weird.
What exactly was she protesting again? Still don't get the random, awkward display. But she seems to fit in with the violent illuminati protesters against Prop 8, so maybe she can join their ranks if she needs a cause.

You've been posting all day and haven't made a single salient point. Protest and Free Speech are powerful elements of the American democracy. Yet, as Adams argues, shouldn't the protester actually have something to say?

And here you sit--arguing about--nothing. Was the man Gay?? Who cares. I wasn't there. Adams was, I think he likely made a reasonable assessment, but this is not really his point, is it? His protesters were not protesting, but rather making mere lame attempts at distraction. As are you.

Christianlibtroll

I hope you will reconsider. From my own experience confronting this kind of behavior, I suspect you are making more of a positive contribution than you think (they don't always thank you for what they learned!).

We need faculty role models if we are ever to reform the baloney. I am sure Dr. Adams gets annoyed, like maybe every day. But he learned to respond to it and laugh at it.

Liberals are Handicapped

Liberals are handicapped by a type of serious mental disorder called a "psychosis" in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined.

The main feature of this disorder is the presence of delusions, which are unshakable beliefs in something untrue.

Those who are afflicted with Liberalism have problems with recollections of their mis-deeds and total recall with mis-deeds of opposers.

Truth relativism increases proportionately when facts are not congruent with their statements.

Rationalizations increase dramatically when behavior is spotlighted.

Ambiguity becomes straightforward answers.

Opinions become knowledge and facts become appraisals formed in the mind.

Dysfunctional behavior is normal and normal behavior is dysfunctional.

Deviate behavior is normal and normal behavior is unenlightened.

Empathy for criminals proportionately increases while sympathy for the criminals victim decreases.

Sins of the guilty should be paid for by the innocent.

Responsibility of ones actions and decisions are clearly the fault of others.

"Please relax," say Liberals, like stewards in an airliner with only one wing and two engines, one of which is on fire, "you are perfectly safe in my hands

The problem
Can be traced to elastic waistbands and electric razors. Parents no longer have a belt or razor strap handy to teach a few manners and common sense to these idiots.

If only All protestors
Handcuffed and gagged themselves, liberals would be a lot easier to get along with. :op
