Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Author’s Note: The following is, unfortunately, a true story that took place this semester at the once-great (and once-conservative) Pepperdine University. No names have been changed to protect the guilty. They don’t deserve it.

One Monday morning, just before the 2008 presidential election, a Pepperdine student (and College Republican, or CR) took a sign to the Office of Student Affairs. The sign read “Barack Obama socialism ‘08” in big letters, with “Socialism is bad. Do not vote Obama ’08. More info: CR meeting Weds 8pm, AC 245”.  A young woman working in the office took out a stamp and approved the poster.

Three members of the CRs hung the sign up in the Café.  A couple of faculty members smiled and warned them to be careful since they were placing it up so high. Pepperdine students gave mixed reactions. The CRs sat in the Café awhile and then left. Shortly thereafter, their sign was removed.

Chris Garcia, the Vice President of the CRs, and another CR named Wesley Heuler found the sign, which had been moved to Pepperdine’s “Freedom Wall”.  They took the sign down and put it back up in the Café.  It was yet again taken down.  So a member of the CRs named Mimi Rothfus went to Student Affairs. (Roughly) the following conversation ensued:

Mimi Rothfus: Hi, I brought a sign in earlier, and it was approved.  We put it up; it was taken down. When we put it up again, it was again removed. I had two stamps of approval on this poster, so why was it removed?

Student Affairs: This is partially our fault because we should never have approved this in the first place. We got a lot of phone calls complaining.  We told your president to take it down and put it on the Freedom Wall.  He said he would. When it was not taken down, we removed it.  Then you put it up again, and we took it down. We were a bit angry that you never took it down and then put it back up. You cannot put up a statement like you put anywhere except on the Freedom Wall; groups can only advertise themselves and their meetings.

The next day, Mimi went to the poster room and picked up a number of posters Chris had left there. The posters said essentially the same thing as the other one, only with the meeting time and place and contact information enlarged. A female employee at Student Affairs gave Mimi the stamp, and the signs were approved. As she left the office a man named Don Lawrence stopped her. (Roughly) the following conversation ensued:

Don Lawrence: Did you get that approved?

Mimi Rothfus: Yes.

Lawrence: Because we had an issue with a sign saying “Socialism” yesterday.

Rothfus: Yes they were approved.

Mimi walked outside again but only made it a few steps before Lawrence stopped her again. (Roughly) the following conversation ensued:

Lawrence: She wasn’t allowed to approve your posters. Let me see them.

(Rothfus showed him).

Lawrence: You can’t have these up because they say “Obama” and “Socialism”. We’ve gotten a lot of complaints from students and professors about it yesterday. The university cannot show support for and approve this.

Rothfus: This is advertising our meeting. Like several recent talk shows, we’ll be discussing Obama and socialism.  All our meeting information is on there.

Lawrence: Well Ryan (CR President) or Chris (Garcia) is going to have to come and talk to me about this, and I’ll have to take your posters. This is university policy.

Rothfus: Yes, you’re doing your job.

(Rothfus handed over the posters and left).

Mimi Rothfus is just an 18-year old freshman at Pepperdine. But she already understands the job requirements of Don Lawrence. If you haven’t yet figured it out, Don Lawrence is the Director of Intercultural Affairs at Pepperdine University.

Any university that decides to hire a Director of Intercultural Affairs is a university that will soon find itself in rapid decline. Put simply, it is a decision that the university is beginning to take seriously the notion of multi-culturalism. The advancement of multiculturalism, by the way, promotes tolerance of all ideas. Of course, the idea that there is something special about Western civilization in general or American culture in particular is an exception to the rule.

Ironically, those who work as Directors of Intercultural Affairs are all cut from the same cloth. They are Democrats, self-described liberals, and, in 2008, they voted for Barack Obama. In other words, they aren’t a very diverse bunch of people.

The multiculturalists also envision a world without borders. They want open-ended immigration. And they think it’s really neat that U.S. Supreme Court justices are starting to interpret our constitution by relying on the laws of other nations and the so-called “international community.”

Put simply, Directors of Intercultural Affairs have an affinity for cultural, if not economic, Marxism. And that is why they are offended by posters that make references to “Obama and Socialism.” They want their candidate to win. But they want their agenda to remain hidden.

Leftist readers of my column will say that I am making a lot of assumptions about Don Lawrence, Director of Intercultural Affairs at Pepperdine University. Maybe that’s because he refuses to talk to me. Instead, he’s instructed me to direct my questions to Pepperdine’s PR department. At least Pepperdine administrators are smart enough to realize they have a PR problem on their hands.

Ryan Sawtelle, President of the CRs is now reporting that Don Lawrence confiscated and banned the “Obama and Socialism” signs in response to a directive from the higher administration. Three questions follow:

  1. What is the name of the Pepperdine administrator who directed Don Lawrence to ban and confiscate the “Obama and Socialism” signs?
  2. Is it not academic whoredom to make a living confiscating political signs from teenaged kids?
  3. What the hell is happening at the once-great and once-conservative Pepperdine University?

To be continued.

RE: "Leftist readers of my column will say that I am making a lot of assumptions about Don Lawrence, Director of Intercultural Affairs at Pepperdine University. Maybe that’s because he refuses to talk to me."

Sounds like John McCain who attacked Barack Obama based on his "associations" and then said the reason for his attack is Obama's refusal to meet with him in town hall meetings. This type of validation was a poor argument when McCain used it, and it is a poor argument now.

Subject: PEPPERDINE RESPONDS -- PART 2
The first College Republican event banner approved by the Student Activities office read “Obama ‘08: Socialism” in big letters. While the Townhall.com article quotes what was printed on the bottom of the banner (“Socialism is bad. Do not vote Obama ’08. More info: CR meeting Weds 8pm, AC 245”), it failed to mention that this event information was in such small print that the attribution was unclear to observers. That’s why the staff member quoted in the article said that we should have never approved the banner for our advertising space in the first place.

The following day, additional College Republican banners were brought to the Student Activities office for a stamp of approval. Unfortunately, the banners were stamped by a student worker not familiar with the policy or authorized to approve them. Don Lawrence happened to be in the office and observed that there was not a staff member present to approve the posters. Based on the confusion the day before, Mr. Lawrence told the student that the banners needed approval from the director of student activities, who has not been contacted about them.

The University is committed to helping our students promote their activities, and we sincerely regret any misunderstanding that occurred

Thank you,

PEPPERDINE RESPONDS -- PART 1
I wrote a letter of complaint to Pepperdine; here is their response:
kristy.collins@pepperdine.edu

Thank you for your concern.

Open dialogue and honest inquiry are valued and practiced at Pepperdine. They are alive and well. We regret that the controversy over the College Republican banners has called this into question. Some additional facts may be helpful.

Pepperdine has designated bulletin boards and spaces for student organizations and University departments to advertise their events. The advertising policy requires a clear description of the event date, location and sponsorship. Each student organization or department advertisement must be approved in advance by the Student Activities office. The purpose of this process is to encourage student groups and departments to publicize their events in a manner that provides on-lookers with information, clearly indicating the identity of the sponsoring/hosting department or group.

Just as supporters of slavery would not willingly give up the basis of their livelihood, so will Leftists never give up and live in tolerance of those who disagree with them.

They game the political system, getting us to vote our approval as they forge our chains.

Nothing short of force of arms will ever roll this back.

Sounds monstrous, doesn't it? Insane, right? "Oh, we can reason with everyone. Can't we all get along?"

No, we can't, any more than the gazelle can get along with the lions. It must fight or flee, or be devoured.

Since we no longer have the stomach for such effort, get used to fetters.

Obama delenda est.

I suppose we really could
get radical. Since there are few "institutes of higher learning" that teach anything of value lets close them down. It would have several advantages, 1. it would make an instant pool of several million aged between 18-35 available for the draft. 2. The millions of taxpayer $ saved could well aleviate, if not solve, our recession/depression concerns. 3. All the over-educated "Professors and Administrators" would become immediately available to work in the countries ghetto's assisting the poor and downtroden. Selected schools might be retained to Educate those who have served after their enlistments/draftee period was up. And, being older and more exposed to the real world, they would likely thrive and improve the future. After all, it worked for those of us who served, came home, took advantage of the GI Bill. Unfortunately, when we had kids we didn't do our part and sent them off to horrendously expensive brainwashing curicula where, if they were lucky, they learned how to tie their own shoes as they received their MBA.

Censorship
The liberals are all about censorship, whether they are shutting up Conservatives or shutting their own mouths about anything negative towards Obama.

We have to keep speaking up.

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/we-demand-true-conserva tive-leadership.html

Can you say "Censorship?"
Sure sounds like it to me. In fact, I heard that someone put up a sign the week after the election that read, "What BUSH DID WRONG, and What Obama Will Do Right."

Of course, that was allowed to be posted, and nobody complained about that one.

Rename the parties

I think it is time to rename the political parties

Republican = Producer Party
Democratic = Parasite Party

That way, anyone can easily determine which party they belong to. They are either producers or parasites.

Seems simple enough to me.

What say you?

Don Lawrence: University Censor
What the heck is a Director of Intercultural Affairs? What sort of qualifications must you have to get a job like that?

My guess is that Don Lawrence has a degree in Education. Education is where the bottom of the barrel college students end up. And, those students who have absolutely no knowledge, skills or abilities end up as Education professors at some overpriced college. Bill Ayers immediately comes to mind.

I would also suggest, that Don Lawrence never had a job outside of academia because he lacks the skills necessary to work at even an entry level position in American industry.

None of this really matters to Liberals like Don Lawrence. He and his ilk don't give a rat's butt about tolerance and inclusion because they know that college administrators share the same disdain for any opinion that is outside their vision of the world.

Thanks to Mike Adams for exposing Don Lawrence, Director of Intercultural Affairs at Pepperdine University, as just another intolerant, close minded, liberal thug.

Socialism and it's joys
are increasingly being taught in all public schools beginning with kindergarten; while the study of capitalism is quickly fading. In a few years schools such as Pepperdine will be the rule and not the exception. The liberal and centrist wings of the republican party are as much to blame for this as the democrats.
We are not 'suddenly' going to become a socialist country, we have been growing that direction since FDR's "New Deal."
Now, with the nation's economic woes and the recent election the pace to Marxism will accelerate and we workers, conservative and non, will be forced by sharply higher taxes further into third world status and indentured servitude.
The question is; what can we do to stop this slide into forced labor? With 20 to 30 million newly amnestied democrat voters from Mexico and points south voting in the midterm elections, the answer seems to be; not much.

Reba
Most people love and care about America.

Unfortunately, we need a new Reagan (A new "Great COMMUNICATOR") to get past the MSM's stonewall of radical bias, who can EXPLAIN to the majority of voters the things they believe in terms which resonate.

It is no longer adequate to point out the opponent's dedication to Marxist-Socialism, since our dumbed down school systems haven't taught truthfully about competing economic ideologies for a long time. That is to say, many BO voters didn't understand what the term socialism or Marxism means.

Unfortunately, the grand experiment of Marxist-Socialism is about to start up again. After all, it only failed miserably in Europe, Russia, and China (who have chosen capitalism as an antidote).

After two years of Jimmy Carter (for you younger libs, Google Carter and misery index) Redux ala "The One", the voters will hopefully understand. But the sad part will be that we will all be along for the ride.

THE TRUTH HURTS
BO has been in partnerships with socialists, Marxists, and racists his entire Illinois career? The sign just stated the facts.

Pepperdine would probably have no problem with Bush=Hitler signs.

Libs sure can dish it out, but.....

"Mania" as in "Obamamania"
Obamamania has happened to Pepperdine's administrators, to the press, etc....Jesus once said that the follower is not greater than his leader (If He was persecuted, then his followers will be also, He was telling us.)

Guided by this truth, we should not be surprised that Obama's followers are quite willing to sacrifice democratic principles, such as the guarantee of freedom of speech (of the right to be heard??), in order to win.

If Obama did not directly suppress anyone's right to speak, he did effectively manage to discredit his opponents' positions before they spoke, through stratgegies of ridicule, out-of-touch, unfit-for-the-future labels. He never once openly and honestly debated on the principles, unless he was absolutely cornered in a public debate.

There were always facts he feared, and so distorted or omitted them from public debate. Thus, Hillary was 'old, broken Washington; McCain was 'another Bush'. Suddenly, after the election, Obama is selecting Clinton Administration leaders to head his own Administration; and Sen. McCain's leadership is sought in a 'partnership for change.'

Winning is the game for Pres.-Elect Obama. Make no mistake, it is a game; and like most games, it is short on ethics, and strong on strategy. Let's work, hope and pray that there is a stong vein of good, beneficial policy and politics that manages to survive in his administration.

Jack Bauer NY, Nov 18, 2008 - 5:26 AM ES

Interesting. I have been understanding the term without the political implications.

I guess my ignorance comes because I don't typically use the word myself.

Thanks, and have a good day.

Thanks. I admit to being confused because several dictionaries provided definitions.

So, it's a purist thing."

Well, all words were created by people at some point in time, so one can hardly object from that viewpoint.

If it is in general usage then a dictionary would catalogue it, without any judgment value attached.

But one can object to words or phrases from ones political viewpoint.

"Homophobe" is an invention of the bogus "sciences" and washed-up Marxists. I personally avoid using the jargon of the left, which is, in itself, meant to be a political weapon.

Great job Adams
Goodness the thought police are certaintly holding down the fort at Pepperdine!

I just heard Pepperdine is contemplating a small campus in Havana! Mr. Lawrence ought to do really well there.

Universities have become bastions of...
liberalism, PC and indoctrination. They no longer encourage the free flow of ideas or independant thought. Is there any wonder that these young clueless lemmings voted in droves for Obama? They need to be reminded about the true affects of Socailism/Marxism.
They also need to be truthfully informed regarding the agenda of fundamentalist Islam and the atrocities committed in it's name around the globe. The push for world conversion(through violent means if neccessary)and dominance. Do your own research students, don't by the PC hype of you left-wing professors.

I CAN HAVE FAITH IN AMERICA AGAIN
Earlier this year I was becoming aware of how far left our country was becoming and it was begining to scare me. After this election I felt like no one cared or loved the values or spirit that make this country what it is, so I was depressed for two days. However, reading the articles on town hall and reading all of what you who post here gives me hope that there are many Americans across this great land who still love and cherish what this country stands for and want to make sure all of the these values remain intact. Thank you fellow Americans for your love and passion for this great democracy and for your willingness to do what it takes to keep it safe for our future generations so they will know the love of America that we all have. I hear your voices through your written words and have the confidence again that we will endure. The fight has only begun and we must stand in unison.

MIKE ADAMS: Please continue with your great articles, we must stay informed.

I'm lost
The students wanted to put a sign up that advertized their meeting which was about OBAMA and the evils of socialism. I don't see what the problem was??????????????????? Will you have someone explain the problem in your next column????????????????????????

Michelle, about UMB
Sorry to break subject, but on the Michelle Malkin site today, there was a piece about UMB (United Missouri Bank) refusing bailout funds. Kudos to the Kemper family for keeping solid banking traditions!

As an uneducated blogger, I had some difficulty getting access to comment on that, but I really wanted to. It seems to me that many of us would do well to pull our mortgages out of these huge banks and go back to locals.

I am not a member of UMB, and even used to make fun of it when it became UMB Bank ("United Missouri Bank, Bank"), but only in good fun. Many of my family members here in Missouri have had accounts with UMB for years, and have been very happy. Maybe it's time for me to go back.

Here's to the "Show-Me State"!

My daughter,
who is in the hard sciences at college, says that she and her peers NEED to have liberal arts students around to poke fun at in order to make themselves feel better about the grueling science courses (and sleepless nights spent studying) science students must endure.

So, liberal arts students serve a purpose after all!

OldeCoastie FL, Nov 17, 2008 - 12:23 PM

I know a few 'old coasties' here in Portland and they all had fun but are glad they're not coasties anymore.

Must be really challenging work.

Have a good one.

the dumbest
place to be these days is any liberal arts program.

A little more trivia:
Akagi as I recall translates as "red castle". It's probably a reference to some shrine in Japan.

I could never have any respect for Nagumo as a tactical officer. HOW he kept his post after the classic bonehead maneuver of holding back the final wave of strike planes at Pearl still puzzles me.

He HAD to know that there could be no real resistance possible from Pearl and even if he didn't know the location of the U.S. carriers he had a good chance to eliminate the dry docks and other repair facilities and destroy the power generating facilities.

I wonder if he underestimated the American ability to rebuild and repair?

Liberlaism is free-thinking...
...as long as you think like them. The most intolerant group of people I've ever come across.

Taft, mindless tool of Progressives
Taft (2:57 PM) offers his usual misinformation.

1) Progressive tax = socialism?

True if the money is then given back in the form of transfer payments, false otherwise. Of course, it was sold to us by Democrats with LIES; they claimed it was "only fair" and not socialism.

2) Alaska rebate = socialism?

Brainless recitation of an absurdly wrong talking point. The Alaskan people own the resource, and own the profits. The distribution of the profits was no more socialistic than is the distribution of dividends to FedEx preferred stockholders.

3) Bush's "new medicare" = socialism?

So was the Democrats' old medicare -- and sensible Americans opposed that, too.

4) Social security check = socialism?

Statist, yes. But again, sold to us by Democrats telling LIES, who insisted it was only a retirement savings account system.

And finally, the implied but not stated argument (a favorite tactic of demagogues like Taft), "If we're already doing it, it's ok." Crap. The things you're mentioning are the ruin of America. Social security is welfare, and bankrupt. Medicare is national health care, and bankrupt. Progressive taxes are theft. The fact that we're doing it does, in fact, make the US government partly socialistic -- and dead wrong.

But then, Obama is not really a socialist; that's not what makes him so dangerous. Obama is an authoritarian Marxist. Read my 6:50 PM post for support.

Nope, not a socialist
Barack Obama's public positions were all lies, as any aware adult could see. He had one set of positions for the primary, a completely different set for the general election. I've never seen a politician so completely remake him- or herself between adjacent elections; it was breathtaking in its utter lack of integrity.

So which is the real Obama? Clearly, neither can be trusted, since he was obviously pandering to the voters for the current election.

So, we have to look to his history and associates, and there, we have a very consistent picture. Obama's associates, his friends, his mentors, his parents and grandparents, his employers, were all from the same camp. No, they were not socialists; they were neo-Marxists.

Specifically, neo-Stalinists. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, apparently his closest associates for about 20 years, are very explicitly neo-Stalinist. They're not just socialists, but full-throated authoritarians, aiming at government-enforced redistribution of the means of production.

Same with Rev Wright and his church. They're Liberationists; not socialists, but neo-Marxists (except they use race in place of economics in their dialectic.) Pure authoritarians, aimed at forced redistribution of wealth in reparation for racial sins of the past.

No, Barack Obama is not a socialist. He's an authoritarian Marxist of the most rancid sort.

(Unrelated to this topic, please visit my political blog, "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Click on my nickname and follow the links on my townhall blog. Thanks.)

A couple of thoughts
@Taft:

From what I saw, most conservatives who decried Obama as a socialist pointed to his own words as one of their key arguments. They merely told the truth about what he was saying. It's interesting that you seem to equate telling the truth about him to fearmongering - perhaps you know more about what's in store for us than you're letting on?

@O.:
Sorry, but I'd like to correct one part of your comment of 3:27. Their ideas have been tried, for the most part. We're simply not officially allowed to know how badly they failed when tried.

Taft
"the progressive tax used in America, is socialist, it redistributes the wealth."

It's also unconstitutional.

"Palin, taking money from the oil corporations and giving every Alaskan, man woman and child, a check from it is socialism."

I've seen this corrected many times, but the liberals still refuse to get it. The people of Alaska own the resources, not the oil companies. Read their founding documents. If you saw the Palin interview, she said that both the State and Feds have not lived up to the agreement. This was her reputation before the MSM trashing:

http://townhall.com/blog/g/0dec7ac9-3af7-460c-9780-e70109ce 9b42&comments=true

"Bush's great new medicare program is socialist."

I hate it. It's unconstitutional.

"The social security check McCain and many of you get every month is socialist."

I hate it. It's unconstitutional. However, I did pay into it, so it's my money, right? Sure.

"Does that make them socialists?"

YES!

"This whole idea sprung up just because the R were grabbing at straws to find something to make Americans fear O and now that the election is over, we need to be grounded and not let pundits fire up hate and keep us divided. We're in this together."

Yeah, but some are throwing matches on dry tinder, and others of us are trying to put out the fires of liberalism. and return the nation to its founding laws.

Multi-culturism
That seemingly diverse term implies a MULTI-tude
of ideas and cultures. So censorship is

I am a reformed multiculturalist, I shouted once before that people accept and treat people of color and make room for us in mostly white suburbs of Central VA as a school teacher and in VT where I went to school. But I no longer believe in Affirmative Action. I no longer believe the White man holds me down, but I create my destiny. I believe what the Whites believe because it's not racist, or bigoted, but godly and most of all rational. Family values, freedom based on an unchanging Constitution are the foundation of our country.

More Academia Mania
The liberal agenda is threatening to engulf us all to our collective detriment. By early on obtaining control of school curriculum and foisting their ideology on malleable children and young adults the liberal left already has a very strong grip on the future of this country. That coupled with increased disengagement of parents with their kids makes the case for enlightened conservatism rooted in the carefully crafted precepts of the Constitution a real uphill battle. I say: Never give up! But a comprehensive, coherent, and effective strategy for deploying enlightened conservatism in today’s world and a champion that will pick up the banner is nowhere to be seen. Very discouraging!

Taft
Socialism is as socialism does. Wherever it is found. Obama is the greater Marxist. And by the way you are not serious that Obama is not a socialist. And you are not serious that socialism is just fine and dandy are you?

GOOD IDEA ELIZABETH
I am also retired and along with other conservative baby boomers we can return to college, grade point average won't matter now, and speak up and challenge these liberal professors in their own class rooms to provide another viewpoint for the younger students. We need to leave a better legacy to our youth. If we don't fight against this socialist culture movement in our society they will blame us anyway.

George Orwell also was a socialist and one that admired the Soviet revolution. One that was pro-Trosky. He is one you'd no doubt call a communst today and one much further to the left than Obama ever has.

Orwell made it clear that the book 1984 was NOT an attack on socialism. It was an attack on communism (which he meant Stalism) and Fascism.

If the US adopted policies you'd claim as communist that you claim Obama wants for the US he'd support them--he'd have no problem with spreading the wealth around or a national health service.

Academia Mania
The traditional institutions of supposedly higher learning, the military academies aside, have been infiltrated by ultra liberals who try to foist their untested, harmful, and/or thoroughly discredited theories and constructs on others. They do no service to the country, none. B.O. is a prime example of a not too bright kid that got to go, on the dole, to Harvard, an institution that in my book has a seriously tarnished reputation. Harvard only solidified his already formed childhood convictions of radical socialism.

Mac Moore
Please tell me how my vote helped put Obama in office? Care to see who won the state of Georgia? Anyone that says voting for Barr helpled Obama win is an idiot.

Barr won .8% of the vote, less than Nader. Some of Barr's support would have voted for Obama or McKinney if there had been no LP candidate. Name me a state where Barr impacted the outcome and that state was key to Obama's overall victory? The answer kiddies is not a single one. Ohio? Barr less than 20,000 votes, Obama won by 200,000. Virginia? 11,000 and Obama won by 200,000. If every voter in NC and Indiana that voted for Barr voted for McCain, McCain wins NC and Indiana. So Obama losses 26 electoral votes giving him 339 (a 69 vote majority) instead of 365 (a 95 vote majority). And there is no evidence that McCain would have gained 100% of the Barr voters--the real outcome is that Barr didn't cost McCain a single state or a single electoral vote and only an idiot would claim a vote for Barr helped Obama win the election.

America's Schools High Jacked By Left!
It's too bad that people are just waking up and discoverying that their schools and their parental rights, freedom of speech, and freedom to protest and freedom to get involved in the public school's curriculums and teachings, has been high jacked by the far left which began back in the 60s and slowly crept into the system by dumbing down America and dumbing down America's youth. The infiltration of drugs and suicidal rock music and bashing of America rock songs and burning the flag and sympathizing with anti-American groups along with the infiltration of far left anti-American silent and discreet socialist professors and teachers are in control of your schools and your children and they are paid with your tax dollars. In fact, as a former talk show host in the 90s, we warned Americans, but they said, if it doesn't affect them then they didn't want to know about it and that's how the cancer spread and infected a great country, because no one wanted to hear about it. So, now, about 50% of the conservatives have awakened from a deep sleep to find that America's lifestyle is being wiped out by immigrants who want to force their lifestyles and religions on our great free country and tell us what we can and cannot do! Is there a cure?

Akagi offers, "Most Americans voted for socialist (Obama) and socialist-lite (McCain) on November 4th--not much difference really."

Too simple of mind. Everyone is a socialist at some level.

Obama sees wealth as a property of the State, to be distributed as the State sees fit. McCain sees wealth as a property of the citizenry to be taxed sparingly for the common needs.

The difference is huge.

However, after 4 years of selecting and sorting, as is the case every four years, we ended up with only two viable candidates. Every vote placed contributed to the election of one of them.

Essentially, your vote for Barr contributed to puting Obama in place -- no matter the imagined nobility of the action.

Goodbye Pepperdine

Expect Teachers ToCircle Wagons On Obama
The MSM and Teachers (unions and all) are very busy puting lipstick on this Socialist Pig. Every blemish is ignored, especially his insane social and economic policies.

This is only the beginning - it
will only get worse - you disagree with this socialist, and you will be censored. I pray fervently that our country survives the next four years intact. I'm beginning to have my doubts, but I will continue to pray.

Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. is also a very good place in my opinion. Wonderful place.

Elise in GA
Have your daughter take a look at Grove City College in PA. High quality Christian education at a reasonable cost.

BTW I donated some cash to Senator Chamblis yesterday. I only wish I could go down and vote for him.

Failings
We are to understand that at least the last two generations of American students have been cheated of the education needed to understand their government, it process and limitations and the beauty of it's workings, no civics, no American history, no debate and no understanding of the requirements of democracy and freedom.

We are about to enter into a difficult and trying times.

Dear Elise
Send your daughter to a private, church school. The communists want to change her make no mistake about that. Be tough. Insist on sending the money to the school of your choice. Best wishes.

The Problem: motes & beams
The arguments to my post, I see, render any response from me both superfluous and unnecessary.

Subject , Free Speech
Only in America would People pay to let liberals teach their kids . Also only in America
would You send your kids to a liberal university. Mike why do you stay at a liberal school & try to teach kids that mostly are out for a good time . When they get to the real world , then the fun really begins . I love liberals , they give me something to think about in my old age .

Re: Multicultural Marxism!!!!
Lets just face the fact that the right has got to view this as a war aginst the logical thought of what is the RIGHT thing to do in all situations!!! Taking away signs that slam this Socialist Marxist that has been voted into office by the generation of entitlement is the first steps in establishing Communism!!! Read it for yourselves in the Communist Manifesto!!! This is what the right had better do, START GETTING EXTREMELY VOCAL!!! Remember the squekest wheel gets the most grease!

"You can party at any school; you can get a good education at almost any school. However, when faith supersedes reason, you have an inferior school."

Ummm, so when belief (faith) in a doctrine (Marxism) that has failed every time and at great cost in lives (all Communist states), is spouted as the "truth" (alleged reason) which cannot be challenged (PC thought police) in "non-inferior" schools, those schools are better?

I don't think so.

Taking Back American Universities
My daughter is rapidly reaching college age. She has been educated in a private Christian school and is a very accomplished and conservative student. She very much wants to go to a large university, namely UNC at Chapel Hill but I want her to continue her education, not be indoctrined by a bunch of liberal wackos. She has strong values and is very sensible and conservative but still very young, and when I read Mike Adams columns, I really start worrying...where does she go for a proper education? I think it's time we take back the American universities. Our kids should learn to think for themselves, be allowed to ask questions, speak and debate freely, not be indoctrinated by illogical ideologues.

Akagi
Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, and Soryu were sunk at the Battle of Midway. The latter three were Japanese naval officers, Nagumo being an admiral. I could google the rest but that would be cheating. The emphasis on vocational training, in part is responsible for this ignorance. Int his particular instance the ignorance comes from a reluctance to dwell on a conflict in which we defeated the military forces of an enemy. Such interest might be considered prideful and jingoistic

The cesspool of liberal academia
This is an example of why I told my 3 girls that I would only pay for a Christian university...and I will never regret that now that they have graduated from college! I refused to pay a total of over $400,000 to have them indoctrinated into what has evolved into spoon fed socialism. I wish more parents wouldn't flush their money and children down the toilet of liberal academia.

Don't trust Buffet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's another egomaniacal billionaire who's got HIS and now wants to limit the access to new wealth to EVERYONE ELSE!! Most of the big money self-mades of the last 50 years have gone this way.

Maybe they've been made to feel guilty about being so successful or had too many fingers wagged at them, I don't know or care. The libs HATE guys like Buffet till he starts talking up some new tax hike THEY have a woody for.

Let's be honest. Christianity seeks to help others by appealing to hearts of individuals. This is the theme of Christianity: the condition of the individual heart and the hope of change and redemption of the individual heart. Now then, when I hear a Marxist try to use the Bible to prove Marxism or try to use a Christian's Bible to persuade him to be a Marxist I get irritated. Marxism pretends to compassion when it is really about envy. Marxism pretends to compassion when it is about stealing and coercion. Christianity is about free will, always has been. Everyone please note this all important oil and water difference between Marxism and Christianity. Christianity speaks the best of one's nature and Marxism speaks to the worst of it. I could go further to say that Christians were encouraged to work for their livings or suffer the consequences of their inaction. Not much similarity here.

Obama is a socialist, but so is George Bush and John McCain and the GOP.

Is not taking over the banks, and bailing out an automaker that should fail, buying up bad paper, mortages and the like socialism?

I guess the choice was who do you think was the bigger socialist, the GOP or the DP? I voted the anti-socialist ticket--I voted for Bob Barr.

Most Americans voted for socialist (Obama) and socialist-lite (McCain) on November 4th--not much difference really.

AMERICA: 7/4/1776 - 1/19/2009
I believe we conservatives are down to Hillsdale College in Michigan, and that's about it. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama has a plan to shut it down. (It wisely accepts no federal funds, though, so he might have to work at it a little.)

What the hell is happening?
"3. What the hell is happening at the once-great and once-conservative Pepperdine University?"

'What is happening' Mr Adams, is what happened in the MSM. Suppression of free expression and speech in the name of the greater good acording to the diktat of the Frankfurt School.

Am I reading this right?
Did JW just equate Marxism to Christianity as to beliefs? Did I really read that correctly?

Is this guy serious?

Unless one is completely and utterly ignorant, I would venture to say that there isn't a single shared belief, even by spinning and stretching, that is shared between Marxism and modern Christianity.

Christian charity is not equivalent to the forced theft of one's earnings to redistribute at the tyrant's will or for the tyrant's benefit.

Don't be so quick to declare America is not stupid. Most Americans can't name the three branches of government nor how many (let alone their names) justices are on the SCOTUS. They can't get within 50 years when the Civil War was fought, can't name the three principal enemies of the US during WWII, thinks "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is in the US Constitution, can't find Israel or Iran on a map (let along say Japan or Taiwan or the Solomon Islands).

Yeah, I'd say Americans are pretty stupid. And the ones in Grant Park on November 4th look more stupid than most to me. The blank, vapid looks on their faces looked like a replay of the "Strength and Unity" rally in Nuremberg in 1934, all they needed was torches to make the re-enactment complete (few Americans would get what this refers to either). I will say one thing for Townhall Conservatives, most get the most popular context for my name. Tell me Allison how many Obama voters would understand the context of say these names: Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, Soryu, Kido Butai, Minoru Genda, Chuichi Nagumo? I am thinking close to zero.

Obama voters? Obama wouldn't. He gave a speech in front of the Victory Column (Siegessaule) in Berlin. The speech highlighted European unity and American and European cooperation, but the column was built to celebrate Prussian victories over France, Denmark and Austria in the mid-19th century and became a key Nazi symbol (who made it taller and moved it to its present location). After the war the French wanted to blow it up, but the Americans vetoed the request.

Again
I could say the same thing about it being hard to be liberal at a conservative school. Go to another liberal-arts school and then talk to be about pepperdine. If you think Pepperdine is liberal, than you probably should have gone to harding because you are sorely mistaken. My first year at Pepperdine I thought I was the only democrat on campus. Just goes to show how each side can feel like they are alone. But I realized that Pepperdine was a safe and open environment. I went in having my doubts and concerns but it has proven time and time again that it is a place of intellectual discovery and personal growth. You are never discouraged to think for yourself and Pepperdine has done a wonderful job at nurturing a student body that cares about their fellow person. It is just sad to me that you think if it would have been bush and "insert derogatory word", it would have been allowed on campus, because it wouldn't have.

Since republicants dont teach...
I love whiny republicants!

Since no conservative ever teaches classical liberal (conservative) classics , very few young conservatives have any intellectual ammunition to fight with. The greats like Bastiet, Say, Ludwig Von Mises and F.A. Hayek are entirely unknown to today's youth.

Without any positive instruction and only sloganing, is it any wonder socialism is winning?

The only way to uphold liberty and freedom is to teach its principles to the young Where is this education program today???

Blogs and bobble heads, a diet of nothing but emotional milk, does not take the place of solid mental meat!

We have a lot of meat heads in the conservative movement, but no true intellectuals.

The problem
What gives Marxism continuing power in Western culture is not the difference between Christianity and Marxism, but rather, their shared beliefs. "My brother's keeper" and "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" are merely two ways of stating identical concepts. Only when Christianity repudiates self-sacrifice as fundamentally wrong will Marxists finally begin to lose the moral high ground.

Don't hold your breath.

Will
is Ole Miss' law school a fourth tier school?

Regent and Liberty are jokes, but so are plenty of state-run and private liberal schools too. Look at Morris Brown for example. It could have hardly been considered a beacon of conservative thought.

Pepperdine.
As a Pepperdine student I have been appalled by the liberal bias present on campus, specifically over the course of the last semester.

I think that there is a lot of fear involved in politics right now--a fear of being politically incorrect, a fear of seeming racist, a fear of offending...

but the advertisement of a legitimate meeting discussing socialism and Obama is neither offense, racist nor politically incorrect...

however, the disruptive and discriminatory statements I have seen around campus, even worn on t-shirts worn by some students ("They wouldn't give us 40 acres and a mule so we took 50 states and a white house") are all three--politically incorrect, racist and offensive...yet Pepperdine administration doesn't seem to mind that one bit...

It's hard out there for a conservative...

This is just outrageous continued...

Fourthly: I cannot believe the views stated about intercultural affairs. A school should be proud of the fact that they have an intercultural affairs office. That office has done many wonderful things for our school. there is nothing wrong with multiculturalism and if you don't like it, then don't live in America. there is a reason that people from all over the world want to be here and be us, because they know that they have the opportunity to make a life here, no matter what their background.

I think you all should be ashamed of how you are bashing this great university. Pepperdine has had to fight off the negative attention that was brought upon them because of a professor speaking on behalf of the "yes on prop 8" campaign. Pepperdine got a lot of negative remarks in regards to that, but never punished their professor because they believed in not silencing him just because he was a professor here, whether they supported him or not, Pepperdine does not take a stance on political agendas.

thanks,
Seaver '08

This is just outrageous
I can't even believe that I am reading this article right now. I just graduated from Pepperdine University this past spring and you are all way off on your assumptions of a wonderful university.

First: You are only able to put up political propaganda on our freedom wall. You can put anything your heart desires up there. The only posters that go up around campus are in regards to specific meeting time and places. All they had to do was make a poster with College Republicans meeting at this time and place. Stop calling Pepperdine anti-freedom or whatever. that is far from the truth. there are never posters up around campus about political thoughts so it isnt as if they were taking away the republican student's rights

Second: These students should be embarrassed that they obviously didn't read up on Obama at all and are just trying to further these false ideas that their party tried to make america believe, well luckily america proved to not be that stupid this time around.

Third: Pepperdine is far from being liberal. Every classroom has a focus on how that class ties in with the christian mission and vocation. Pepperdine gets scrutinized for being too liberal but then gets yelled at for pushing christian views, even though it is never politics which gets pushed. This school is one of the few universities that can combine a high standard education with a christian influence of service.
continued...

Liberal
Well, how about Ole Miss. The only student newspaper I am aware of that endorsed McCain was The Daily Mississippian (which we liked to call the Daily Mistake). It has one of the best schools of pharmacy in the US, and the leading university of the study of southern culture--think like Faulkner and the Blues and such.

The greateness in things like medicine, engineering and the like are often great in spite of the liberal bent of the university that hosts them, not because of them.

Engineers and others in the hard sciences are usually not the type of leftists you'd find in the liberal arts. Do you think it wise to have a faculty in such as ideologically pure as you would have found in Maoist China? It is wise to have a East Asian department filled completely with Maoist apologists?

Obama has made it clear that he is not concerned with the end result of bringing in more money into the treasury by lowering tax rates (remember the interview with Charles Gibson who was so surprised at his answer about taxes, he asked the question again, hoping for a more economically savvy answer), he's more interested in what he calls "fairness" (which is anything but. That, along with wealth re-distribution (which is the quintessential definition of socialism) makes Obama a "poster boy" for Marxist thinking.

Ex KGB propagandist tells all

Homo Erectus -- does not mean...
"Highlander: You said:
"Homophobe?
This is not a word!"

I don't understand why you would say that"

I do. It's a contrived word with a pseudo-Latin modifier that is not in harmony with what it is supposed to mean.

Given that "homo" denotes the genus of primates from which modern humans are an end product; and "-phobe" denoting a person with a dislike (or possibly fear) of what is specified.

What is specified is "homo" -- which, while is a slang for homosexual, is not a true definition.

Therefore philogists can find the imprecision of "homophobe" to be ugly or inelegant.

"Fluency in profanity and other gutter language is not an indicator of intelligence, but rather the opposite.
If you cannot express yourself without resorting to vulgarity, you must have a limited vocabulary."
Does having a limited vocabulary give another the right to limit free speech?
I spent many years in prison with hundreds and thousands of men who only know fifty words, most of which were vulgar. Yet even with that speech impediment they have no problem communicating. When out on the street should they be denied a voice, because of intellects who perfer tea and crumpets? If a word makes one shudder, maybe they need to investigate their own nervous system. Of course taste is perferred, but snobs are losers.

Pepperdine
Mike, Mike -- You sound surprised!? I was motivated to attend Pepperdine back in 2005, in part because I was looking for a conservative educational experience. Lo and behold, no such event took place and after one semester I was out of there.
I have to say, my constitutional law professor was a very confused man. He wore his christianity on his left sleeve, and his extreme leftist tendencies on his right. His political "Bible" was the New York Times, which we were required to read and test on daily during the entire semester.
I asked him once if he believed in the marriage between responsibility and accountability. His response was a 30 minute dissertation on how people cannot be held individually accountable for how they think or act in a society that is so emotionally, socially, and politically depressed.
I also was a bit surprised to see a flagrantly in-your-face homosexual professor who enjoyed strutting his stuff up and down the halls; I don't mind alternative lifestyles. But if he can wear flowers sticking out of his skin tight pink pants and ruffles on his polyester long sleeve shirts, why couldn't I wear my "Constitution Party" t-shirt? But that's another story. bruceH

Better read than red
Actually only an "Old Not Very Well Red" could possibley call themselves a "socialist" without either:

1. Holding their head in shame for the crimes against humanity that have flowed directly from "socialists" and the corrupt ideology called "socialism."

or

2. Falling down laughing, as it was a joke meant to get a rise out of the gullible.

I am so glad to see you already doing the things I plan to do when I retire in about 2 yrs. I plan to enroll in classes likely to be subjected to the liberal abuses of the truth and revisionist crap that is rampant in todays classrooms. I hope to challenge the instructor in the classroom so that the students can see that maybe they shouldn't believe all that is being spewed forth. I won't really care about a grade. Just be there to challenge the leftists.
KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!!

Late Great United States
We're broke and in debt financially, morally and culturally. When begins the 2nd American Revolution? I'm a 68-years young military retiree and ready to join the front lines.

George III treated a gang of colonists better than our government and our "power institutions" are treating us and they simply said, "When in the course of Human Events....)
and did a number on ole George and his Brit & Kraut cousins.

The Essentials
Lying to hide their agendas and suppression of the freedom of speech of those with opposing views are essentials for despots to succeed, be they Socialists, Communists, Facists or Nazis.

We are going to see a lot more of that in the coming months, if not years.

So I'll back to CRs on this one.

If you don't like an idea, post a counter idea. It's not too hard to figure out.

But as to the content, the CRs are a hoot. I'm a socialist of long standing. I even know Obama from Chicago. Take it from me, he's no socialist, not even close. He's a high road green industrial policy capitalist.

But then, to know that, you actually have to read and study his positions, something they used to do in universities, before getting your political views shaped by the goofy trivia infotainment of the Faux-Hannity-Limbaugh sort.

Let a hundred flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend...

Goodbye to America
By the way, I don't doubt that Mr Obama's election means America has changed and will change, but only in the directions it's already taking - multiculturalism, bilingualism, moral chaos and educational nullity.

Why is it that liberals think they are so smart that they even can't see that what they have said proves the point that they are trying to dispute.
What does spreading the wealth around mean. What does bailing out the car companies and of course then the government would get a portion of the ownership in the car companies mean to you. What they were doing is called free speech. And of course it is objectionable to people like you. But of course free speech must be controlled. Just ask Obama and his friends in congress about the fairness doctrine. I hope someday soon you will be intimidated into joining a union. Liberals just think they are so damn brilliant. So by your standard since a majority of the people at this site who don't agree with you one bit, and can destroy your arguments in a second, you should be forever banned from this site. That sounds too much like any liberal site or anyplace liberal I have ever been around. Just continue your free speech here all you want why you still can; but just remember your sound like an idiot.

refatsew - Obama not socialist
Let's take a look:

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

Lead by the liberals and helped along by spineless republicans, the current government "bailout" includes partial government ownership of the business. Nevermind that this was caused by government intervention. So this is the beginning of government ownership and administration.

Add to it that Obama stated he wants to "spread the wealth around" I believe that equates to distribution of goods.

Looks like socialism. Sounds like socialism.

What evidence do you have that Pepperdine is the least bit liberal or leftist? Here is just one example of the schools personalities.

"The School of Public Policy was recently given a generous grant by former Congressman Jack F. Kemp to establish an institute of political economy. Notable figures scheduled to lecture and join an advisory committee are: James A. Baker III (former Secretary of State), William J. Bennett, Edwin Fuelner (President, Heritage Foundation), "

Hardly liberal. The schools just didn't approve of inflammatory lies.

Ministry of Truth?

AynRand
Thanks AynRandlives, I wrote to him.

Connecticut Conservative
The leftism of many elite college campuses is a combination of the historical tendency of college faculty to reflect leftists views, the lingering effluent of 1960s radicalism (of which Bill Ayers is an example), the predilection of leftists for academic careers as the best means of bringing about the revolution, and the fact that, as David Horowitz, has pointed out, once a given department is 25% leftist, no conservative need apply.

This one-sidedness has produced numerous departments which are downright anti-intellectual, particularly black /African-American studies, Chicano/Chicana studies, women's studies, and substantial portions of environmental studies and English programs, to name just a few. The ethnic studies programs constitute nothing more than ethnic special pleading and lack any academic or scholarly respectability.

Academics cannot be trusted with power. In both England the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, many of these simple-minded idealists were drawn to communism as the wave of the future. They were certainly on the cutting edge--of indirect support for mass extermination and starvation of those who lived under the Soviet regime.

Leftist ideas are not the product of intelligent thought, but merely a reflection of the time spent in college among radical faculty and the desire many have to find acceptance there. There's not much difference between the leftist undergraduate and the leftists college professor. The latter just adds the footnotes to misguided and faulty thinking.

Parents not only need to help their children select colleges wisely, but also prepare them for an environment in which teachers may abuse their positions to advance their ideology over education. And they should work with groups like FIRE to expose examples of political intolerance and thought control.

Homophobe?
This is not a word!

Redistribute the Wealth
Obama's replay to Joe the Plumber made clear his theory that wealth needs redistributed........ie take from those who have earned it and give to those who have not earned.

Free Speech issues start young.
Recently a friend of mine's 6th grader made a trip to South Bend's Notre Dame. There were 3 6th grade classes heading down on the trip from Michigan.

In two of the classes, the teachers instructed the students that they could not wear any Michigan apparel as to respect Notre Dame for allowing them to visit. "We dont want to offend them" was the message. Discipline would ensue if they didnt obey this creed apparently. No recess for a day or two...something silly.

The third class instructed his entire class to wear University of Michigan attire if they could or Blue and Yellow colors. They missed recess but did so together and in unison. The teacher was obviously a Wolverines fan and decided any punishment was worth the snub at Irish fans.

Glad to see not all teachers have fallen prey to the PC police.

A LIBERAL EDUCATION
had a different definition when I went to school, many years ago. However, since I have become aware of the radical extremist liberals who are teaching our youth, I see it as an indoctrination of the minds of our future leaders. Obama is right, there will be a change, a change away from the principals, values and rights which this country was founded on. As long as we allow the ilks of Bill Ayers, Khalini, Mark Hamilton, Angela Davis, and Don Lawrence, etc., spew their propaganda in our colleges, we should not be surprised what this young generation thinks or how they voted.

Footnote: One of the definitions that Webster now provides for the word liberal is: Lacking in moral restraint.

Is Obama a "Socialist"?
What is Socialism?

“Socialism” is defined in the Merriam Webster Dictionary as follows: “1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods 2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state 3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done.”

Barack Obama is not in favor of any of the above. He simply wants to return to the somewhat higher tax rates on top earners that we had in the 1990’s. So does Warren Buffet. Is he a “socialist” too?

The sign makers obviously were hoping to apply the term "socialism" to Obama which others found inaccurate and objectionable.

Pepperdine students rise up!
The only thing these communist educators understand is loosing money! There are many Christian lawyer associations out there that will represent them free, Jay Secalow, being one.
Your rights are being taken away, your freedom is going to be lost like the students in Venezuela, if you don't stand up now.
I would suggest that you file a ten million dollar lawsuit against these jokers, by name, individually for violating your rights to be heart! If you don't do this now, your children won't know what it was like before they lost their freedom!
Liz Budry

I am a 65 yr old activist that wouldn't tolerate 10 years ago when I went to college, not for a degree but to stop this crap at a local Junior College. Everytime they threatened to touch any of my stuff at my table, set up in the lunch room, I threatened to sue them, they knew I wasn't kidding, and for two years I made every classroom teacher tremble when I walked into the classroom! I had a floating free lending library in which I gave out every book that under-scored everything being taught there that was against my Christian-Judaic heritage. It was the most fun I have ever had in my life!

I'm not disappointed
This was especially funny, because that poster always rants about Mike's columns being nothing but gay-bashing. Then he takes the moment of an entirely unrelated column to throw it in. And yet he continues to post here.

How long do such posters last on the liberal blogs without banning? But we're the closed-minded ones.

Lawrence of Eurabia
This is another unfortunate example of what has already happened in America. Recall the Durkheim Syndrome, or the tale of how to cook a frog? It is here, now, and if more of America fails to stand up and take their blinders of it will be too late to stop it. We, as a nation would not exist of God had not wanted it to be, but how long can we ignore His warnings before there the door is permanently closed?
I know what He calls all of us to do, but we stand and fall together as a nation. We can never give up, never, never give up.

confusing
So is the idea that Pepperdine discriminated against putting ideas on posters by limiting it to the area of the campus in which posters can be put up arguing for ideas?

I admit that the idea that Obama is a socialist is so stupid that it cannot survive well surrounded by serious ideas. But that is an odd sense of censorship.

Thanks, Juan....
I put that in my file of Great Quotes for future use.

The Utility of Socialism
Capitalism is to economies as evolution is to ecology - both follow the rules of natural selection. But humans don't tolerate winter - so we build shelters - in economic terms the shelters are called socialism. ........

We had a nice laugh at will's folly when
Dr. Adams was in Pittsburgh for a lecture on the constutional crisis in higher education. We just shake our heads at Will's lack of sense and mission to pounce on each column as it is published and stuff his orientation into our faces regardless of topic.

Seriously, this guy has real mental problems to cry for attention when he knows it will be negative. He could be one of those highly promiscuous homosexuals seeking approval and attention everywhere. You can just see him banging away on his keyboard shouting to all in cyberspace, "NOTICE ME!, NOTICE ME!"

Excellent post.

I take it from the spelling in your handle you must be reeeaaalllyyy old.

Where did you serve?

Ministry of Cultural Affairs - Quebec
We lived in Montreal, Quebec before coming to the U.S. 27 years ago. What happened in Quebec when the Separatists Party (a socialist/Marxist leaning party) took over is that the created a Ministry of Cultural Affairs which became one of the most powerful arms of the government.

This was to enforce the speaking of French and all things French. It was really weird - an English speaking business that catered to majority English speaking customers may previously have had bilingual signs now had to have everything only in French. They even took down all of the STOP signs and put up ARRET. What is weird about that is that even in France the signs say STOP.

I imagine that there was more to it but we didn't stick around to find out - we moved out of there 'tout suite'.

my 2 cents
Thanks to folks like Mike and to the excesses of the left as they get bolder and bolder, people are finally starting to

push back

and that's a good thing

I'm not disappointed
I was wondering how long it was going to take will to throw in a homophobia comment. I'm glad to see he was the first poster. Can you get your head (and whatever else is in there) out of your rear-end for just once?

Part 2 to Peppersine Pres.....
Part 2:

I think we can agree that speech which is simply objectionable to some is protected. So, Dr. Benton, here is an opportunity for you to strike a blow for the First Amendment by changing the rule or regulation, if one exists, that required Mr. Lawrence to confiscate the posters. Failure to do so may well cause Dr. Adams and FIRE to file suit to strike down such an egregious limitation of free speech.

Don't forget that the same protection of Mr. Lawrence's right to disagree with the posters gives the College Republicans the right to use them.

Hoping that sanity and good sense will prevail, I am,

Respectfully,

My email to Dr. Andrew Benton...
President of Pepperdine. andrew.benton@pepperdine.edu
Part 1:
Dr. Benton:

In his Town Hall column today, Dr. Mike Adams recounts a recent incident at your university of which you should be aware. Don Lawrence, your Director of Intercultural Affairs, confiscated posters that were to be posted on campus by the College Republicans. Apparently, his objection was that the posters, which already had an approval stamp, used the words "Obama" and "socialism." By the way, just what are Intercultural Affairs?

Dr, Benton, The Bill of Rights does not give us rights, since we are endowed with them by our creator--see the Declaration of Independence for that acknowledgement. Instead, the Bill of Rights restrains the government from interfering with those rights. The very first amendment states that there shall be no law, and by extension, rule or regulation, "...abridging the freedom of speech..." It has been clearly established that this includes political speech, even burning our flag. How then, sir, can your university prohibit posters with those two words which can be found in profusion in your library and in the print and broadcast media on a daily basis? While we are discussing this issue, how many times have the words "Bush" and "fascist" been used together in your classrooms?

Moreover, in a university that claims to be a protected place for the free exchange of ideas by learned professors and their students, how do you explain that the ideas that President Elect Obama has stated in his own words are not socialism, or worse? And why is it not acceptable for students to voice their opinions in an institution of higher learning? That, sir, seems clearly to be abridging free speech, even though it obviously is contrary to the political views held by Mr. Lawrence who is an agent of your university.

SIG...WAKE UP!
Obama is for change and the sign may be making a false statement...Duh! Who are his associates, mentors, and what is his history?

William Ayers...terrorist and Marxist with ties to Hugo Chavez

Frank Marshall Davis (or whatever his name is)...his Communist mentor

Louis Farrakhan...hate filled anti-American

Jeremiah Wright...another hate filled anti-American

Words from his own book...I sought out the radicals, the Marxists, etc.

Do your research!

Children and Grandchildren
My oldest graduated from Yale, is an attorney and, quite frankly, a liberal attorney (the worst combination. Her brother graduated School of Mines, has two kids, and said quite frankly...neither of my children are going to these ivy league schools where they'll pick up stupid ideas.

Let's hope that there will be a few universities left when the time comes for them to enter college. I am beginning to think that anyone employed by a university suffers liberal brain deterioration.

Multi-culturalism
When Tom Clancy was turning out his immensely popular military-techno thrillers, readers were amazed at the detail and accuracy with respect to background on global military hardware capabilities and doctrine.

One of the recurring characters appearing in his novels dealing with the Soviet threat was the apparatchik, a functionary of the Communist Party appointed to positions in government (or military units) on the basis of ideology or political loyalty rather than competence. Although the Soviets were the antagonists in his stories, Clancy frequently depicted the Russian soldier in a sympathetic light. However, his portrayal of the apparatchik or chekista was typically that of the ominous watchdog, ready to report any departure or thought independent of the Party line.

Here in America 2008, most, if not all colleges have their Directors of Intercultural Affairs who serve little educational purpose other than to ensure adherence to liberal doctrine and eradication of dissenting opinion. While reading Dr. Adams’ editorial, the “light bulb” finally went off… they are our Chekista!

The Cheka (aka: Secret Police) were Lenin’s Troops for the Internal Defense of the Republic. They were responsible for running labor camps, Gulags, putting down peasant rebellions, worker riots, and mutiny in military units. If this terminology rings a familiar tone, our President-elect alluded to a “Civilian Defense Force, as strong as the U.S. Military,” in one of his speeches.

Those who fail to heed the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. – George Santayana

The enemy within
By Hilmar von Campe

"The enemies within have the same motivation as the enemies outside: power. They are being helped by millions of people who have no bigger purpose than themselves. Hitler fooled millions of Germans who adored him but had no clue what he had in mind. Once in power, he immediately began to secure his position. He eliminated all opposition and produced jobs for 6 million people. The Olympic Games 1936 were a big boost for him. They silenced the military resistance against Hitler that would not have found any backing by the German people."

Ex-Hitler youth's
warning to America:
"Every day brings this nation closer to Nazi-style totalitarian abyss. Von Campe grew up under the Nazis, served in the Hitler Youth and fought against the Red Army in the Yugoslavian theater as a tank gunner in the German army. He was captured at the end of the war and escaped five months later from a prisoner of war camp in Communist Yugoslavia.

"It took me a long time to understand and define the nature of National Socialism," says von Campe. "And, unfortunately, their philosophy continues to flourish under different labels remaining a menace to America and free human society."

Will is not a fool
Will is not a fool. He just happens to be someone who has been indoctrinated by leftist dogma which claims to support openness, but doesn't! Communism has always taken over countries from the inside through the institutions that disseminate ideas: TV, radio, newspapers, universities, etc. Will is not a fool. He is asleep.

Multiculturalism
These people that think that Multiculturalism is so cool, ought to look at the late, unlamented, Yugoslavia, which billed itself as a multicultural "paradise."

More hatred, murder, rape, robbery, and eventually war came out of that pipe dream turned into a nightmare, than anyone could ever imagine.

That is the exact opposite of what was intended, as so many government policies eventually become, even though they have noble intentions.

George Orwell said it best: "Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them."

The Problem is:
Are we sure that Obama is for socialism? He is for change, and we have had so much socialism the past 8 years, and being Obama is for change, the sign would be making a false statement.

Done. Sent the email. Much more constructive than creating another sign for Will, which is what my first thought was!

Not shocking to me...
These academic Nazis are finally showing their true nature...

Sign O' The Totalitarian Times
Here's the mistake Mimi made: the sign SHOULD have advertised:

BUSH and FASCISM

Then "no problemo kiddo, in fact, let me display it more prominently!"

my letter to Pepperdine
I just sent this:
I am appalled at the behavior of certain Pepperdine administrators to deny students their right to free speech! Specifically, I am referring to the incident involving the College Republicans attempting to display an approved poster in the University Café prior to the election. Freedom of speech apparently only applies to ‘liberal’ speech, an outrage. What a shame that free and open debate of ideas are no longer seemingly tolerated at our institutions of higher learning! How pitiful, indeed!

Anne
I am referring to the Institute for Social Research, founded in Frankfurt, Germany. Look it up. Also check out the connection to Columbia University, still today. Shocking stuff.

Yes lets begin to make the calls for free speech for Conservative not just Liberal political correctness. Obama and Socialism are synoymous at this point in his life, He can change that if he choses but without Adams and Walter E. Williams and Thomas Sowell and kids on campus and all of us speaking up for him to change He will continue on his Socialist path.

Pepperdine contact info
The highest official for Pepperdine that I could find an email address for is the Provost, the chief Academic officer. His email address is darryl.tippens@pepperdine.edu.
Here is the email I sent him:
Provost Tippens,

I just read Mike Adams' column about your Director of Intercultural Affairs confiscating posters advertising a meeting of a conservative student group because the posters mentioned Obama and socialism. Apparently, students and professors on your campus complained about that speech, which tells me that your professors AND your students need a lesson on free speech. May I suggest that, if you can find a law professor at your law school who understands the First Amendment right of free speech, you have one of them come give a seminar to all of your professors?

In the meantime, Mike Adams asks these three questions in his column:

I think I can answer the last two questions for myself, but I would like to know who on your staff told the Director to confiscate those signs. I am posting your email address on Townhall.com so the readers there can contact you as well. We are all interested in this case showing that free speech is only for liberals.

Respectfully,

Name here, Esq.

Bleeding heart
"Conservative thought and higher education is an oxymoron"

You're correct. Higher education is no longer "higher" with the lack of conservative thought.

Conservative Alumni Be Aware!
As soon as any of this crap is reported to have occurred on a college campus that you regularly give money to, you should make a call to the institution's president and tell them that as long as they violate Free Speech, you will not donate another nickle.

We need to find and support colleges and universities who support conservative ideals and teach classical liberalism, and totally reject the idea that Marxism/Socialism/Leninism/Stalinism/Maoism are worthy ideas that merit discussion other than condemnation.

Free speech
For those of you who don't know, Mike Adams writes most of his columns on the issue of free speech, that is, speech codes at universities that squelch free CONSERVATIVE speech. As someone observed above, liberals think free speech is that speech of which they approve. Mike works with FIRE to sue universities over free speech issues. We need to help him with his quest. When he writes about a university pulling this kind of nonsense, we all need to call and email the university asking them the 3 questions. We need to fight for every inch of our First Amendment rights or we will lose them. And a freedom wall, for those of you who don't understand it, is akin to what other universities are doing whereby they designate a small space on campus for free speech. That is an outrageous limitation on free speech, although it insinuates that there is no free speech inside the classrooms, SIGH. Our founders placed free speech in the very first Amendment of the Bill of Rights to protect robust POLITICAL speech, which they had been denied under a king. So, if the students want to put up posters about socialism being bad, they should be encouraged to, not punished. Seems to me that university administrators need reeducation on the Bill of Rights.

Fear
Liberals/socialists are simply showing the fear they have of dissenting and opposing thought and philosophy and political ideals.

They can't allow posters and/or advertising for conservative meetings or groups because the students may learn a different viewpoint and, GASP!, may actually agree with that new and different viewpoint.
You know this is, after all a learning environment.

contact Pepperdine and Complain
I wrote to the college and voiced my complaint - I wish these authors would give links to write letters. We can't remain silent.

The only email address I found on Pepperdine is this:

Maybe a few lawsuit threats would help!

Animal Farm
"What the hell is happening at the once-great and once-conservative Pepperdine University?"

The same thing that has happened to campuses all over the country: they've been turned into farms with the pigs in charge.

I pray that
All of you reading this who have children I hope you have had enough of this crap and stand up for yourselves and your children. When the school in your area talks of banning the pledge of allegiance, TAKE A STAND and DEMAND they continue the pledge. If they've already banned it, DEMAND they reinstate it! The conservative majority have been silent long enough don't you think?! Teach your kids to stand up for themselves and the values of honesty, integrity, honor, tradition and patriotism that you are teaching them. Educate them on civic responsibility. Get on people when they refuse to stand for the national athem at sporting events. Not only is it time NOT to be silent any longer, if confronted be beligerant (not violent)in defending your American ideals! We have our own AMERICAN CULTURE and we don't need it diluted anymore by those that come to this country and insist on pushing their culture into ours nor do we need those who are home grown enablers helping them out. We speak ENGLISH, We say MERRY CHRISTMAS, Our children should recite the pledge of allegiance in the class room and not taking to another area to recite it lest they offend those whose parents don't want them reciting it, like they do in Vermont!!!! Our military is fighting for our freedom and the freedom of other would be democracies. Don't you think it's time to do your part and pick up the fight here at home to protect your own freedoms and the sovereignty of your own country???!!!!! NOW GET BACK TO WORK! Millions of illegal immigrants on welfare are depending on you!

Multiculturalism
This is nothing more than cultural marxism, which prepares us all for the more traditional marxism where Obamanation is going to take us.

Status quo
Can we ever turn back the tide of neo-Marxism that came to our shores in the form of academic elitists escaping Nazism (true irony) with their cultural illuminati B.S.? They have polluted once-fine institutions where free idea exchange was once the hallmark of academe. Keep working at it, Mike.

Hilarious
"...liberalism...helps people expand beyond the status quo into innovation". That is a real hoot.
Why don't you look in a dictionary and read about yourself and your ilk under the heading "Narcissism".

There's a lawsuit here --
As an attorney I can tell you that there is probably a violation of the 1st amendment here and a possible 1984 lawsuit. Have they sought representation? They should. Sue these institutions out of existence. It would be a good start.

Jackbooted thugs. Just wait until the Fairness Doctrine comes back.

A SIGN OF THE TIMES
The sign in this article, posted in the Universitys Cafe, is no different than a student yelling 'FIRE' when that student sees and smells smoke. Liberal policy, however, would rather prevent 'common sense' action and have us all BURN.

Multiculturalism is but another weapon
The issue here isn't about culture -it is about politics -signs that dissaprove of socialism attack a political entity not any culture, as socialism itself crosses many cultures, but of course no one seems to have the courage to fight it. Then again the failure was that we failed to fight these leftists when they were rebelling aginst traditional culture and authority in the sixties -now they have become the institutional masters they once hated and they are the new authoritarians - bow gracefully and be a good citizen.

It is more clear than ever before....
that our country is using its' young people to further Socialism, Communism and terror. The administration and teaching staff of most, if not all 'universities', are socialist in their political beliefs....and so they pummel it into our young.

That's it in a nutshell and simply stated but the truth, never the less.

Universities are liberal because...
...liberalism challenges accepted norms and helps people to expand beyond the status quo into innovation. Conservatism takes over after university so as to limit excesses which inevitably come about from liberals who forget they are no longer in the coccoon like idealistic state called the university campus. hence, we have conservative crusaders like Dr. adams who try their best to place some conservative limits on liberals gone wild who , thinking they are promoting freedom for all, actually end up limiting the freedoms of the few they disagree with. Marxism is the result of liberalisms excesses: while promoting "diversity" they inspire some who understand their true motives to innovation but most end up in a perpetual state of dependence, belaboring the condition of the so-called oppressed in our free society.

Fight Fight Fight
Mr. Adams .... I reside not far from you, in the heart of North Carolina's Piedmont, a still right of center place being surrounded by Yankee hard-core liberals moving south to get away from 10 ft snow. And I say now and til I die ...Fight the common denominator, the equality of misery, the degradation of great Western Thought. Plato, Aristotle, Burke, Jefferson, Marshall, Franklin, Churchill and all the rest must be protected, cherished and defended from the hoarde as represented by Lawrence and his ilk. I ask you, sir, stay the course, continue the fight @ UNCW.

Bleeding Heart Liberal writes,
"Conservative thought and higher education is an oxymoron.

What are the other 4 great conservative colleges?"

----------

Oh, I know what you were thinking of.

Didn't Pat Robertson found Virginia's Regent University? A TRUE conservative university!

From wikipedia:

Rankings
U.S. News & World Report ranks Regent University School of Law as a Tier 4 school, the lowest ranking within the law school category. The Princeton Review ranked Regent University seventh in the country for quality of life and the most conservative school. The Sustainable Endowments Institute in Cambridge, Mass., gave Regent a grade of D in its 2009 College Sustainability Report Card, an improvement from the previous year's F grade.

The fate of conservative thought
I have asked before: What are the 5 greatest conservative colleges in the U.S. to juxtapose with elitist liberal colleges? I would assume Pepperdine is one of the great ones.

Conservative thought and higher education is an oxymoron.

What are the other 4 great conservative colleges?

Pepperdine
Mike and all,
Once up on a time, a man named George founded a college that was supposed to teach the Bible and the christian religion, especially to train preachers of the Word. This college, later University, was named for George, but somewhere along the way it has LOST its way, and today's Pepperdine is an shocking and embarrassment to those who donated and sacrificed so much for it in the past. It has gotten further and further way from the faith that once sustained it, and is now nothing but another big Liberal Arts mega-university which is more concerned about looking good in the eyes of liberals and government and the media than in doing and teaching and encouraging what is right. Much of this is due to accepting money from the government and from liberal foundations. This sort of nonsense is the result.

As usual
It is considered free speech as long as the liberals approve of the speech!

Children.
I've always liked Mike S. Adams's writing. I have suggested him to all my Professors of Somethng nieces and nephews (but they are in the hard sciences, so they don't care).

And, I find that I am a very slow study. It is only now that I recognize that most of Prof. Adams's work is on the behalf of children, especially children that have been raised to avoid military service, on both sides -- meaning liberals and conservatives.

I think the best service Mike S. Adams might perform is to organize a movement to close all the divisions of our universities that are not devoted to the sciences.

It seems my nieces and nephews have got it right.
