Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

UNC-Wilmington decided recently that the way to bolster its failing diversity program is to dump more money into it. Without any help from the Bush administration’s financial advisors, they have decided that rewarding failure is a good way to ensure success. That’s why they created a new Associate Provost of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion position. And that’s why they paid big bucks to Jose Hernandez to fill the slot.

According to a university press release, the new tolerance czar will focus on four areas of “diversity and inclusion” including the following: Centro Hispano, the Multicultural Center, the African-American Cultural Center, and a new Women's Studies unit.

Before the university starts to construct separate (but equal) bathrooms for “colored” people, I’m interested in speaking to Jose about a group that already has separate bathroom status. I’m talking, of course, about women – an historical “minority” of close to 70% on our almost entirely white campus.

As a first order of business, I would encourage Jose Hernandez to take a look at the lack of “diversity and inclusion” in the Women’s Studies Minor (WSM). Recently, I went to their web page and started looking at the faculty who teach in that program. Then, I did a search of the voter registration data base in North Carolina. The results were quite interesting.

Below, I’ve cut and pasted the names of the women teaching in the WSM followed by the Women’s Resource Center’s descriptions of their contributions to the program. I’ve changed just one thing. In the place of their departmental affiliation, I’ve superimposed their political party affiliation, if any.

Kathleen Berkeley (Democrat): Teaches the history of women in America from the era of pre-contact to the present, with a special emphasis on the interactions among gender, race, class, and ethnicity, and the influence these variables have on expressions of power and sexuality in American society.

Maria Cami-Vela (Not registered to vote): Teaches literature and film courses focusing on gender, class, and sexuality. Her current research explores the representation of desire and sexuality in films directed by women.

Cara Cilano (Democrat): Teaches courses in women’s literature from around the globe, with a particular emphasis on third world women’s literature. Her research focuses on issues of nationhood, cultural production and reception of texts, and globalization.

Eleanor Krassen Covan (Democrat): Teaches courses on women and aging. A sociologist by discipline, she is editor of the journal Health Care for Women International.

Andrea Deagon (Democrat): Teaches classical studies. Her research interests include women’s dance and women’s experience of the sacred.

Janet Ellerby (Democrat): Teaches courses that focus on women writers, issues of gender, and the memoir. She is currently working on a cultural analysis of adoption practices in literature and history.

Elizabeth Ervin (Democrat): Teaches courses in education, professional writing, and feminist theory. Her research explores connections between public discourse, feminism, and activism.

Jennifer Horan (Democrat): Teaches courses focusing on the status of women in the American political system. Her current research interests include environmental policy and policymaking in Latin America and the impact of environmental degradation on women in the developing world.

Leslie Hossfeld (Democrat): Teaches sociology courses focusing on gender and society. Her current research interests include worker displacement and gender and job loss.

Donna King (Unaffiliated Marxist): Teaches sociology courses focusing on gender, race, and class. Her current research interests include eco-feminism and feminist critiques of consumer culture.

Patricia Lerch (Democrat): Teaches courses on women in such diverse cultural settings as Brazil, Barbados, and North America. Her research focuses on women and religion, tourism, and economic development.

Diane Levy (Democrat): Teaches courses in the sociology of the family, gender and society, and the sociology of work and occupations. She is interested in gender and globalization, tourism, and women’s travel accounts.

Katherine Montwieler (Democrat): Teaches courses related to gender and literature. Her current research interests are eighteenth- and nineteenth-century women writers and constructions of gender and sexuality.

Diana Pasulka (Not Registered to Vote): Teaches courses on women and religion. Her research focuses on gender representations in world religions as well as religion and popular culture.

Lisa Pollard (Not Registered to Vote): Teaches courses on Muslim, Jewish, and Christian women in the modern Middle East, and courses on gender. Her research interests focus on gender and nation building in 19th and 20th century Egypt.

Colleen Reilly (Democrat): Teaches courses in professional writing and computers and writing, including a course in gender and technology. Her current research explores how gender and sexuality help to construct and are constructed by technologies.

Karen Sandell (Unaffiliated): Teaches social work courses focusing on issues relating to women, children, and society. Her current research interests include teaching innovations in social work education, technology and social work education, and feminist practice.

Kindra Steenerson (Democrat): Teaches a wide variety of topics including the construction of gender, institutional sources of oppression, and feminist scrutiny of the media.

Anita Veit (Democrat): Teaches courses in the sociology of gender, children, family, sport, and birth and death.

Barbara Waxman (Democrat): Teaches literature by and about women, multicultural autobiography, fiction, and autobiography about aging and Victorian literature. Her research examines memoirs of the bilingual/trans-cultural experience.

For those not counting, the party affiliation tally of the 20 professors (now 19, as one recently passed away) teaching in the WSM is as follows:

Democrats 15
Not Registered 3
Unaffiliated 2
Republican 0

This all reminds me of the time when the aptly named Dick Veit (English Department) falsely accused the College Republicans of trying to exclude blacks and Jews from their club. At the very time of his accusation, the English Department had thirty-three professors, none of whom were Republicans. Veit insisted that his department was always professional and never tried to exclude anyone.

I guess the questions for Jose Hernandez are really quite simple: What happens when you flip a peso 20 times and it never comes up heads? Can Jose see that the system has been rigged? And, will he have the courage and integrity to create real diversity and inclusion in Women’s Studies?

More info on Jose
Here's a recent article written on Jose in the UNCW student newspaper:

http://media.www.theseahawk.org/media/storage/paper287/news /2008/09/04/News/Jose-Hernandez.Big.Plans.For.Uncw.Diversit y-3413801.shtml

The campus liberals make this too easy on us sometimes, Doc. If we all fall under the umbrella of diversity, then isn't it impossible to increase or decrease diversity? Is Jose's position therefore useless?

Look at all those dems!
According to the latest Senate poll (from Rasmussen, issued Thursday) Kay Hagan is trouncing Elixabeth Dole 48%-45%.

And here are the latest polls under North Carolina's electoral college map at Real Clear Politics:

Rasmussen (09/23 - 09/23) McCain: 47%, Obama: 49% - Obama +2

Civitas/TelOpinion (R) (09/17 - 09/20) McCain: 45%, Obama: 45% - Tie

PPP (D) (09/17 - 09/19) McCain: 46%, Obama: 46% - Tie

All momentum has shifted to Obama! McCain used to be WAY UP! For some loony reason, I thought North Carolina was a RED state! Ha ha!

And don't even get me started on nearby Virginia! Rasmussen has Obama up by 5 pts., ABC News/Wash Post has Obama up bt 3, Survey USA has Obama up by 6. Obama is leading in 3 or the most recent 4 presidential state polls.

Let's see... North Carolina will give us 15 electoral votes. Virginia, 13. Pennsylvania, 21. Michigan, 17.

----------

Mike, the times, THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'. Cry your tears and wipe your red-turning-blue eyes elsewhere.

North Carolina is trending blue, Hagan and Obama. And Mike Adams is whining about gender and race-related literature and sociology courses. FEMINIST THEORY?! Oh, SHIELD ME FROM THE EVIL PERIL!

In the long-view, the sweeping span of history and historical momentum, Mike, you are running against the wind. You are yelling into the abyss. If feminist theory courses gives a few thousand women personal "empowerment", what's the harm? The road to social equalities is not without its bumps and hitches.

Amazed as always
The insularity of a mainstream college campus must be... I don't even have word or analogy. Going to work must be like going over the rainbow to OZ every day.

"We represent... the Feminist Guild, the Feminist Guild, the Feminist Guild..."

(My sincere apologies for the image that will no doubt sear into your brains. Couldn't resist.)

reply to Will
Will is disturbed - he needs to return to the basement of his parents house to write more rants !

Republican Feminists
Is there any self-respecting Republican woman that would think that Women's Studies is a real department. I suspect that even if they would allow a Republican person (of any sex or sexual persuasion) into their department, none would be dumb enough to think there was a real career opportunity in something as stupid as Women's Studies.

Why don't you just quit
You're going to get fired anyway. And it won't
be because of the feminists. It is because you
are a ranting juvenile who looks around every
corner to find injustice towards himself.

Every campus has a few of those. And they are
invariably a pain in the butt.

Girl Scouts
Why as a middle aged white guy is no one protecting my roght to join the Brownies?

Ana to Will
Where do you think he's writing from? He is at home in his parents' basement. He is an idiot who is laughed at by almost all here yet keeps coming back and posting his stupidity so we can laugh, mock, and ridicule him again and again. Masochism is quite common among homosexual men and he is simply comfirming that disturbing trend.

Will
"...Kay Hagan is trouncing Elixabeth Dole 48%-45%." You think 3 percentage points is a TROUNCING lead? You believe Obama having a 2-5% lead in states with large black populations is a good situation for his campaign at this point in the election? This reveals your inability to be honest in your writing or your lack of common sense/knowlege. The latter goes a long way to explain your support for Obama.

If you don't
believe in homosexuality and abortion, you're not a real woman. You're a man in a woman's body. If you're not a Democrat or a Marxist, you're not a real woman. We need all of these liberal feminists in universities to educate young women and to open their minds to the wonderfulness of 20 century feminism. What's your problem with that?

Ana
I am suspicious that it isn't the real Will. Did he write about homosexuality? No. So how could it be Will?

Unless bumps and hitches is gay code.

Will from CA
Go ahead and cite poll numbers. It doesn't matter at this point who ends up on top. It's way beyond politics now. You'll soon be standing in a soup line thanks to the failed social engineering you libs (especially Chris Dodd & Barney Frank) have foisted on all of us through the auspices of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. Check this out:

Uh, Will . . . Will . . . WILL!!!
Earth to Will:

Please answer the following, if you can:

In an election year with an unpopular President, an unpopular war in Iraq, the economic problems (especially of the last two weeks!), an unpopular Congress (even though both houses are under Dem control), etc., it seemed to me, a conservative Republican, that the Dems should win this election far easier than the one in 1976--a year ago.

Now, the polls are either within the margin of error or even. Why is that?
(And no, don't go hit "F12" on your keyboard for the answer, "Whites are racist, so any result where Obama loses will be a racist election", or something like that.)

Sometimes
when Will isn't the first poster its because he had to run down to the 7-11 to get a fresh bag of adult diapers.

I am a Republican woman
who went back to school to get her degree. I took one of those "female studies" courses. EEWW!!

I made mention of the fact that the *product of conception* is 1/2 of the father's contribution and the room went quiet. I said, "until or unless women can reproduce alone, THE CHILD is the *product* of the MOTHER AND FATHER and both should have some say in the continuation or abortion of such."

Needless to say, I had to pick another course to meet requirements, but it felt SO GOOD!

Colleges and universities (let alone, high schools) will remain bastions of liberal ideology for many years to come. Why? Because they have no accountability, they have tenure and they are the ones doing the hiring.

Will
The only poll that matters is the one on November 4th. All the rest are just so much sound and fury.

A prosperous nation
employs the otherwise unemployable and enables the destructive. What really galls me is that no one is more reactive about non-issues than feminists; these same women treat each other like crap and are miserable to students who disagree with them. I can speak in generalizations because I have 25 years in the field and have seen quite enough.

Once evil corporate America is successfully pillaged and entirely leaves our shores, small business is strangled and unable to grow, and there is no longer revenue to pay for idiotic positions like diversity this and feminist that- it should be interesting to watch the thin-skinned, feeble-brained women have to actually earn a living by their own yet undeveloped wits and tenacity. Fortunately, there are many Russian professionals here wiping butts and emptying bedpans who can advise them.

George
The very existence of a "Women's Studies" department (or a "Minority Studies" department or a "Q---r Studies" department or the like) is, in and of itself, a lack of diversity (small "d") and tolerance. The "Diversity" (capital "D") movement cares nothing for actual diversity. If they did, these specialized, leftist fields of study wouldn't exist, as they ONLY exist to promote divisive Leftist views on gender, race, and sexuality. You will never see a "White Studies" or a "Christian Studies" department in a public University ("Christian Studies" being usually referred to as "Theology" and based on the study of Christian thought and philosophy, not on modern sociology vis a vis Christians. According to the Princeton Review, the only public school in the US with a Theology degree is Texas A&M, one of the most conservative public schools in the country.)

If you want diversity (small "d") you have to accept that some very smart people don't think the same way you do, and their opinions are perfectly valid. If you want "Diversity" (capital "D") you must believe that anyone not holding your view is not a smart person, and, therefore, their opinion is to be at least ignored and at most actively suppressed.

Le jour, la nuit
"Gender" refers to a grammatical distinction among nouns. Its use as a term for one's sex, according to the OED, is "colloquial."

BTW: Will, repeat after me: Dewey Wins!

Will, we know you like poles...
so perhaps you will recall who led in the polls prior to the 2004 election. I believe Kerry had a lead in almost every poll, no?

And don't forget the consistent dynamic where a sizable percentage of white telephone poll respondent phonies are afraid to say they dislike a black candidate for fear of being labeled racist. Ouch. So much for Obama's big lead, huh?

I wouldn't be so quick to crow if I were you. You might just have to eat some come Nov 5th.

Of course they're all Democrats...
Will, you're comments are insulting to other people named Will (i.e. me)... ;-)

Just kidding of course. I really don't give a toss.

While I understand the point of Adams' column today (his typical subtlety on display), what I wonder is: how on earth could you find any Republican profs to teach this crap? I don't think any exist.

Vote Obama
and help make his multicultural dreams a reality.

Obama
is the perfect multiculturally diverse candidate.

If elected, he will get rid of all the awful rigidity for which our nation is famous, and will make America much more elastic and therefore vastly improved.

Who could be better at unifying the masses?

He grew up in both the white and black cultures, giving him the power to increase understanding between both races. He is a christian who attended a muslim school, enabling him to bring about peace between Christianity and Islam. He is a Democrat, but he feels the pain of the Republicans, granting him the potential to truly reach across the aisle. He is an American who spent a substantial part of his life in other countries, making him more accessible to the world.

Join Team Obama, and help make America into a land of many "nations", a veritable multicultural paradise for all to enjoy.

Go in peace.

Diversity in college
Mike, I am sick to my stomach after reading your column, wondering what college I can send my 13-year-old daughter to so she will not have to sit through this feminist garbage. Twenty-three years ago I naively signed up for a Psychology of Women class at Texas A&M. I was blacklisted after the first week when I was one of only two women in a class of thirty-five who raised their hands stating they would take their husband's last name when getting married. Of course we were the only two women in the class who shaved our legs and armpits--another revelation that shocked me.

I wonder where those angry, hairy-legged women are today--perhaps waiting to humiliate my naive daughter in a few years. Sends chills up my spine.

Jose
Does anyone on this board honestly believe Jose was hired to be fair and rational. If so, you are delusional. UNCW is just one example of the hold Marxism has on our advanced education system and institutions.

Obama....
doesn't even KNOW a white person...well, except his Mother and he's already thrown her under the bus. If Obama gets elected this sort of scandalous activity will become commonplace. When my daughter became a Senior the first thing I told her was that she could go to any college she wanted EXCEPT UNCWilmington...

Lifelong RAT
Precisely the type of chuckleheaded nonsense that one expects to come slobbering from the mouth of the left. All perception, and absolutely no reality. What a childish view of the world you have. Do yourself a favor and grow up.

Hmm
Hernandez says he wants to open up diversity to all. Well, aren't we all already diverse? And, we pretty much all get along, don't we? How is the creation of such things as African American Centers, or Hispanic American Centers on college campuses moving diversity forward? Women's studies- the same thing. (Feminism sucks)It is a tool for promoting segregation among populations. It is forcing the recognition of the differences that, assumably have become accepted among different ethnicities or races. Or, maybe I am just paranoid.

Socialist to the core
What new with this, the marxist-socialist have take over the education system in America. That's why you have the chowder heads who graduate from college, can't read, can't write a discernable paragraph, can't work, but sure know how to talk, and plead.

Funny
I happened to get an email from townhall in my email this morning. I had forgotten about looking at the website a few years ago. The name Mike Adams rang a bell. He was my Criminal Law & Procedure professor a few years ago. He's still causing trouble while being hilarious and entertaining at the same time. Keep up the good work!

Will plays with poles
Will never saw a pole he didn't want to play with.

I've started to flag will's posts as
offensive not because of the inherent content, but when they are completely off-topic, seek to hinder debate, and clog up the discussion. It might not do any good, but I still feel good for protesting his impeccably bad manners. There should be a flag a irrelevant option.

Tyler
I see you still have your man crush on SamIAm.

Yikes
Sorry you have to share campus with such boring people!!! Being boring is a close second to the fact that democrats are just dumb lemmings.

my daughter just graduated PBK...
... and Summa Cvm Laude from UGA, now one of the most competitive state universities in America (SAT average about 1,250-- traditional measure).

Kim was required to take a PC "women's studies" course. She told me of her frustration about how loaded and platitudinous the course content was-- how most of it was impossible to take seriously. Since I reach college business myself, I urged her to feed back to the female professor the very same fatuous pablum that she was dishing out... to flame on about how women were never given an even break, underpaid, etc.

My daughter got an "A" in the course. Res ipsa loquitur.

[TH's damm filter would not let me say "CVM" (Roman substitute here to pass filter muster) because it is a dirty word... imagine that with all of vile verbiage you see here]

"reach" = teach
Sorry... little typo-- just got my first cup of mud! ;>)

RichD wrote
"I've started to flag will's posts as offencive not because of the inherent content, but when they are completely off-topic, seek to hinder debate, and clog up the discussion."

Eh, don't the posts that do that (from silly willy) amount to cent-percent?

Democrats
The Democratic Party is primarily a cobbled-together bunch of victim and special interest groups. The operative term is "group". Dems, and said groups who compose their core voter base, have no interest in any kind of healthy, free or individual diversity. That notion of individuality and freedom is frowned upon even though, or because, this country was founded on the preservation of individual rights and opportunity. From the leftist-socialist-Democratic point of view, individuality and free thought are evils, and their goal is to eliminate such and substitute "approved" group-think and herd behavior. Class-race-gender "studies" are just another tool intended to further fundamentally un-American aims.

diversity
I'm a college student. I love how we're supposed to be tolerant but the professors aren't. Almost all anti-Christian atheists that can't answer questions from first year students. But that's ok, truth doesn't matter anyway. Explains why BO is so popular with them, his lies don't matter to them.

Jose's affiliation...
And what party affiliation does Jose maintain? Not that I couldn't guess.

It looks to me like
this 'institution of higher learning' had to concoct a bunch of useless classes in order to keep all of the liberal fascists employed. The cesspool called education will continue to claim victims until the parents who pay the bills start withdrawing students or challenging the curricula.

Mr Adams
Your headline had me wondering if you were writing an open letter to Jose Feliciano. Guess not.

W/O=

PokerGuy
You are so right. Look at how their "equal treatment" of women applies to Sarah Palin? If you do exactly what the feminists have been telling us to do all these years BUT you are pro-life--WATCH OUT. Women's Studies is a non entity if women are not sincere about studying. And by studying, we become educated and education brings the truth about abortion and every single lie that has been foisted on this nation by these she/men is exposed.

70% = minority?
Wow. Just...wow.

I will never understand libs.

Be Patient
WHY do Liberals have to attempt to brainwash children? Because they are to Lazy, Self Centered and Drug Addled to breed. Between Fat, Ugly, Hairy Legged Harridans and Bald Headed, Ponytailed, Girlymen, eventually Liberals will ABORT themselves into a PERMANENT MINORITY.

Women's studies?
So how many men major in this ridiculous curriculum? Women's studies constitutes a fake course of study whose only purpose is to create more professors of women's studies. There is absolutely no practical, free market use for this contrived topic. My parents explained sex and sexuality to me. They must have saved me at least $20,000 or $30,000 in tuition.

Tolerance
Tolerance is the last virtue of a corrupt Society

Flawed analogy
"What happens when you flip a peso 20 times and it never comes up heads?"

One afternoon, when I was bored, I tried flipping a coin 100 times and recorded the results. While it did work out to exactly 50-50, I had approximately 35 heads in a row. Random chance is just that. It is theoretically possible for a person to only have their coin-tosses come up heads for their entire lives.

But there is nothing random about the uniformity in the viewpoints of university and college professors. They believe that to challenge orthodoxy on social issues is akin to challenging orthodoxy in the laws of physics. Except that physics professors are more open minded.

Steven: "Why don't you just quit!"
I thought you believed in diversity!?! #@%@!, don't it just kill you when we expose the total hypocrisy of what you stand for? You guys are now the majority in the university. If and when
you win at the ballot box, and make your university rules the law of the land - don't worry about the content/intent of the Constitution since you have made it mean what you say it means - you won't have to wait for Mike and the rest of us to quit. You can follow the Chinese model and arrest us and put us to work in slave labor factories. Look at what is being done right now in Missouri with an "Authorized Obama Truth Squad." Here it comes!

SOUNDS LIKE THE DREAMS OF HIS FATHERS!
SOUDS LIKE OBAMA UNIVERSITY !IF OBAMA WINS THEY WILL ALL BE WORSE!THIS IS KIND OF A PRE-VIEW!THE WOOPIE GOLDBERG SCHOOL OF YES WE CAN !!ITS NOT A GOOD THING!

HO SAY CANT YOU SEE JOE???
THE LIBS HAVE TAKEN OVER OUR UNIVERSITY !YES THEY DID!THIS IS SAD.VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN-YES WE WILL IN A HEART BEAT!!!

Good column, Mike
It's that bad, is it? I know it is. I was amused by the areas of interest and expertise that were attributed to the faculty in this piece. What a list of useless areas of knowledge. These folks are getting a salary for teaching this fluff? Keep it up, Dr. Mike! Mike I wonder how much it is worth to the taxpayers of North Carolina to be blessed with this new assistant provost position?

Jose, Can You See?
The feminist agenda: Hell has no fury like a vested interest masquerading as a moral principle. Their influence is mostly destructive to the social fabric, a fabric based on thousands year old traditions that are in turn based on the genetic propensities of the sexes, a legacy of our evolution. You don't re-engineer the social fabric without paying real close attention to the underlying reasons for its existence. Forcing unproven concepts on society is misguided and almost always detrimental; it undermines that fabric and the eventual result is unraveling of the stabilizing forces that make this Nation strong. Exactly what is happening at this time. Creating this amount of discord without seeing the long-term ramification is the hallmark of feminism.

well
If Dr. Adams is suggesting that the political beliefs of a professor influence their teaching and in turn, influence their students, then he must be speaking from personal experience. Otherwise, he is giving himself a pass. This type of hypocrisy permeates those who make a practice of looking down on others. Take Georgetwin for example. One often hears at TH about the harsh rhetoric of the liberals. It would be difficult to top Georgetwin’s comment, yet he is a true conservative. I don’t believe that people are inherently flawed no matter how flawed some of their actions may be.

Nothing much changes

Had a sociology professor 40 years ago; she gave test that had as one of the "questions" __ "tell me the reasons YOU think Blacks are different from other immigrant groups."

A liberal anti was young lady and I (an ROTC cadet cames up with very similar answers (comparing our responses after the test).

We also got the same red marks and minus points in the margin. The instructor had written "NOT MY ANSWERS!" An early education is "freedom of thought and opinion".

Sarcasm is Lost
On some people. Right coolbeans?

Any college getting
any federal money of any sort should be forced to justify these stupid waste of time courses such as Women's Studies.

There is no practical life application to this garbage except to indoctrinate women into the "Angry Women's Club"!

Dear dasche
A comment RE: "Tolerance is the last virtue of a corrupt society." Not to mention being the last virtue of a corrupt party. GREAT observation!

Course List
Talk about trivial! The course list and descriptions given above by Mike reveal an intellectual vacuity that borders on madness. The content of those courses is mindless drivel left over from the Sixties and taught by some now very wilted ex-flower children.

That's not fair
I think that upon further reflection (possibly with a fine cigar), Dr. Mike will begin to see that the political one-sidedness of the Womens (or was that “Womyns”) Studies Department is perfectly logical. Where, I ask, is one going to find a Republican woman who has so little respect for the purpose of academic institutions as to become a party to this travesty of scholarship?

What piqued my curiosity is the fact that it takes 20 of them to handle the job load.

Womens Studies
There were 20 perfessers listed... teaching what? Basic socio-polictical clap trap? What would anyone do with a BA/BS(more likely) degree in Womens Studies? That department had more perfessers than the Geography and Oceanography departments at TAMU when I was a student... I know what you can do with a BS in Geography or Oceanography...

West Texan
Really? And what is that?

Padding your column?
Mike, we all know you like to add those lists of feminists because it pads the length of your column without having to write much actual original content! Brilliant! Even so, a great column (5 checkmarks from me) - I just had to pull your chain, if you ever get far enough down in the comments to read this.

TWG in SC
Try investigating King College (www.king.edu) in Bristol Tennessee. You can search for Academic courses and the Student handbook.

Wow. With the bailout package failing in
the House and the markets now free-falling, suddenly feminist sociology teachers seem so dizzyingly insignificant.

Social cons always say (wrongly) that nations fall because of "moral values"...but it is ALWAYS about economics! Gay marriage or women priests or legalized abortions make NO DISCERNABLE DIFFERENCE in the world markets. It is always about strong economics - and don't you forget it!

Womens movement in the 1970's
I found out that Women's Studies was bogus in 1975, while I was an undergraduate at San Diego State Univ. I took a WS class as an elective. It was taught by the most rabid hateful lesbian that you can imagine. She took the Marxist Manifesto and changed it all to relate to women. She would get so worked up spittle actually spewed from her mouth. Men were the enemy, and any woman that associated with men was too! Needless to say, I was forever put off by the "women's movement"! So much hate really invalidated anything that was possible good as far as I was concerned! What a waste of life, and taxpayer money! Sad to see how much diversity garbage has taken over American. More like divide & destroy!

@ TRUETOLIFE
One of the problems with the PC crowd & all their (non)Diversity training or programs is the fact that BIG (yet shrinking) Media toes the Liberal Co. Line every day.

It is being reported that Nobama is in favor of "womens rights" & McCain is not...yet nothing could be further from the truth if one examines the FACTS and leaves out the spin.

Barry's campaign pays his women staffers SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than their MALE COUNTERPARTS...so much for the "Equal Pay For Equal Work" leg of the stool that at one time held up the Womens Movement.

On the other hand John McCain pays his Female Staffers at a Higher Rate than men doing the same job - reverse sexism? - BUT the NYT or Broadcast News outlets REFUSE to publicize this point!!

However, NOW & NARAL (which you can bet are aware of this discrepency in the Nobama campaign) say nothing for much the same reason they will not give Sarah Palin her due.
ABORTION vs PRO-LIFE!!
It is the litmus test for all of the Radical Feminist Groups.

But we should be used to this by now...after all - THAT'S LIFE!!

W/O=

Josh Doesn't Get It
"Social cons always say (wrongly) that nations fall because of "moral values"...he goes on to say in essence that moral distinctions basicially "make NO DISCERNABLE DIFFERENCE in the world markets" and encourages the rest of it not to forget this tidbit of great wisdom.

Josh, let me see if I can't help you connect the dots here. Let's say you take your car into a shop to have it checked out and you happen to get an unethical, immoral mechanic to look things over. Your car is actually in pretty good shape, but this dude tells you that repairs are necessary in the range of 1,000.00. Tell me something, will this man's lack of ethics or morals have any bearing on your economic state if you simply looked at things on a purely economic (so-called) ammoral basis? The same premise is true for judicial proceedings, education, medicine, national defense and so forth. Without a sound moral basis, nations have historically self destructed or become so weakened by their lack of morals, they were over run by outside powers (often more wicked than themself). Hope this helps Josh.

Where's the token male
Diversity in Women's studies would see a contradiction in terms.

This suggests an interesting idea, based on the Feminist/Minority/Ethnocentrist idea that only a member of a minority group, they would say "dis-empowered", can represent that minority. Note this leaves unexplored the idea that it might be inherently impossible, in this view, for a minority or woman to represent a white male.

What all this suggests is that the underlying agenda of "dis-empowered" groups is to become, equally (at LEAST--think about that)empowered while remaining SEPARATE!

In short what is really going on her is the Establishment, Norming, even Enculturation of a "Separate but Equal" Society.
If, as supposed, Separate is inherently UN-equal then who, do you suppose gets the UN-equal portion of the proverbial stick?

To put it another way, a case can seemingly be made that all this is is a classic Revolution of the Dis-empowered to place THEM in the position of DOMINANCE! In the Words of the old Who song: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

If you don't want to Enculturate you want to control. Like most Marxist Revolutionaries they don't want a level playing field, they want to Stick it to the Man.

Well to Them, I'm "The Man", if they will leave me the hell alone, I don't give a damn. If they try and stick it to me, I'll make sure I stick them first in a way that insures they can't stick me or anybody else again. I wasn't an enemy until they made me theirs, now they will pay.

Whine whine whine
If you don't like the liberal universities, stop crying like a little baby and start your own. Or you can go to the many universities with a more Right wing bent - Grove City College, George Mason University, Hillsdale, Pepperdine.

The last time I heard so much whining was during a Barack Obama speech.

UNC is a public-funded university
Liberal wuss Alexander whined "If you don't like the liberal universities, stop crying like a little baby and start your own."

Thus, Alexander, it is not liberal-owned. It is likely that conservatives pay the bulk of the taxes that fund the UNC system.

Josh
You're joshing us aren't you, Josh. Judeo-Christian morality encourages honesty in business, the value of hard work, sexual propriety among co-workers which leads to maximum productivity, etc. This is all too obvious. But the liberals like Josh can't admit it because it would mean that they would have to give up their fudge packing activities.

azd2
Hmm. These females complain they are the minority in the school yet they stand at 70%. They are serious and angry about it.

Where is the sarcasm? They believe what they're saying.

What is your point?

TBM
Precicely. It has nothing to do with "leveling the playing field" the field is already tilted sharply in their favor. It is about leveling MEN...particularly white straight men.

Alexander--Wrong
The most whining was from Pelosi when 90 of HER Democrats voted against her.

Get some buckets for that swamo.

@ MikeR
In a college that is full of liberals, having this guy teaching us is a breath of fresh air. I knew he was a conservative, but I didn't know about everything he does to serve his cause.

Not once in our class has he plugged this site or assigned his articles as reading materials. The only reason I even found this site was through a random Google search.

Mike is a great teacher that teaches classes honestly and fairly, unlike a lot of the professors there that prefer to tie in political agenda into their lesson plans.

in a nutshell
Dumb dykes teaching more dumb dykes about being a stupid dumb dyke.

Thats just layman terms for gender construction and gender globalization.Anyone got a better explanation for this complete waste of taxpayer and alumni funds?

Science 0, Vacuity 19
Many fine posts have already discussed the vacuity of the courses listed.

Wow. Do people actually pay tuition for that junk? It reads like a satire out of a vintage "National Lampoon" magazine.

Including the National Lampoon classic cartoon that gave us the phrase, "that's not funny, that's sick!"

will
You are gonna be wiping your a@s on election day when you finally realize the liberal media and these polls are just like you sad liberals...they lie!

Screwed-Up People
There's something wrong with a person, man or woman, who wastes their college years majoring in a subject that has absolutely no basis in reality.

That's insanity.

Women's studies
Is it just me - or are all these courses bordering on being between silly and pathetic? Don't they have any women's studies covering subject matter that is useful?

Heaven's to Mergatroid...
all the "D's next to the teacher's names rival a DemoRat Convention.....what a bunch of mush and waste of money....

Don't forget ...
Remember, Bill Ayers is a Full Professor at U of Chicago. He may be a registered Democrat -- I don't know -- but in one of his latest interviews he described himself as a "communist with a small c". Great.

If you ever wonder why the cost of education is so high, just take a look at all the Profs on the list in this article ... all earning six figures for teaching two to four classes a week for eight months of the year.

Sickening.

Boooring!
You couldn't get me to sign up for even one class with this group. This is college? Sorry but this is crapola.

"Diversity" Deans
My school (a Community College!) recently hired a black (naturally) woman (of course)as "Diversity Dean." Her job is apparently to see that the school actively seeks out "minority" students. Another collosal waste of taxpayer money.

Democrat Party = Crack Dealers
When I hear an ad for a Democrat, I am reminded of the old "just say no" commercials against drug abuse. The Democrats are just like drug dealers: when they tell you to just vote for them, and everything will be wonderful for you, They Lie.

Tina Fey et al.
It seems that Tina Fey is getting a lot of press and accolades for her so called comical portrayal of Gov. Sarah Palin. I have recently noticed that she has ramped the image of Ms Palin being out of touch. At first, the portrayal at least included the other female immitating Hillary. Now, the liberal media, as is their bent, is focusing soley on Gov. Palin. Why is she fair game for this kind of mockery and Sen. Obama is not? Double standard maybe?

Note to Women
If you really want to compete.
Get a degree that is worth something.
The Business College.
The College of Medicine.
Computer Science.
These degrees will get you real jobs.
A degree is woman's studies will not, but it will cause your brain to get flabby.

Total agreement= stale thinking
There couldn't possibly be any intellectual stimulation amongst these women. The only thing they have to debate is what goodies should be in the candy machine.

Woman are not victims
Time to wake up. You are not victims. This mentality will never help you. It can only hurt you. Be happy. God lovingly made you and put you here for a reason. Be happy that you exist. Men are not the enemy.

Super Creative Screen Name
I believe you. I always imagine that Mike would be straight forward in his approach yet still funny and not at all boring. The trouble is that he paints with a very broad brush. If what you say is true, then what of the responses to students that he’s commented on in the past? If he does keep his politics out of the classroom, then he must be exaggerating if not completely fabricating some of his information here. And to what end? Mike is in the business of putting down others. Anyone who is not a sycophant or whose delicate ego must constantly be reinforced has to take Mike with a grain of salt.

PS. I really like your name.

VoiceOfReason
Alexander was not whining. And while I understand your point, there is some merit to his. It should never be a matter of choosing schools in the state system. The matter is that if liberals control the system, it is because conservatives have abandoned it. Schools are the gardens of the future. We all seem to accept that, yet so few are willing to become gardeners.

On another note, I find your choice of names odd since you showed no reason in your comment. Alexander didn’t whine, he showed no “wussiness” (as if use of such a term could ever be considered reasonable) and I see no evidence of his being a liberal especially considering the Obama insult.

Joycey
Total agreement often does equal stale thinking. Have you ever not agreed with Dr. Adams? There are many here who never do. I also agree that there is little intellectual stimulation amongst these folks. Has this never occurred to you or has your thinking become too stale?

Younger in UT
Thanks for information on King's College. Greatly appreciated!

This Is Going On At Most Universities
Although you may not find a Provost position, almost all universities have a dept of Diversity usually heavily loaded with women lesbians and ethnic types. They are almost all filled with losers in the academic arena and do nothing for their paycheck. Total waste of taxpayers dollars.

steven
Tolerant liberal you are! Someone disagrees with you so we go after their family, job and livlihood.

Thats pretty dangerous trying to take away someone's freedom of speech. Could get you and those like you seriously hurt. You liberals better think about that.

You are idiots and when this country wakes up you people will need to find a new one.

Cuba isn't that far away.

I Think It's Time...
to impose the Fairness Doctrine on the liberals all across the country.
